My spidey sense is telling me that something is brewing for 2023. A Rumours 5 event or shows.
I have nothing to go on but my gut. Anyone else getting that tingling sensation that something is gonna happen?

Sister,
honey, ....... Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies
John checked out, Chris said FM was done and has back and health issues, Stevie does not need FM money. Chris pretty much lost her voice
Are you Mick posting in disguise? No no no, you cant disguise. Is all this rubbish just to make Little Lies a hit?

But doesn't it always feel like this? There's no possible way XXXX can happen? Then it does,...

As she gets close to finishing her round of shows, Stevie might say something onstage, like “See you next year with Mac.” But I think she’d vastly prefer to do her own thing from now on, and she’s the linchpin, as we all know.

I'm with Stinky, here. John and Chris are just too old. That's the bottom line.
I was watching the 2018 tour on YouTube last night(the whole concert is on there), and man, Chris is looking so old....and that's 4 years ago. I think they've just aged out of the band. With no Chris, they'd HAVE to bring Lindsey back, and I seriously don't think that will happen. I DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN. It's time to call it another lonely day...

If they were all 10 years younger I would say most definitely they would reunite for one last cash grab tour. Chris could not do it. She could not sit and play keyboards and her voice is pretty much gone :( Women lose their voices before men in old age. We saw her struggle with vocals and practically not play keyboards during the last tour and with BuckVie. John was dragged through the last tour. I know Mick and Lindsey would do it without question though.
Getting old sucks. We must appreciate Chris overcoming her fear and coming back to the band for a few more years. Although we all had high hopes for a new album and tour. But we did get Buck/Vie which was a real treat.

They're only reuniting at one of their memorial services. (*)
The best we can hope for is that the four members other than Stevie have an embargo in place against her giving any long speeches. Perhaps a booby-trapped lectern that shoots a tranquilizer at anyone speaking over 10 minutes at a time.
(* Just kidding. John didn't even attend the Peter Green memorial show.)

Mick did post the other day that he's getting ready for something or getting ready to start talking.
I think they will do 5 shows maybe with the Eagles next year but they'll be with Neil and Mike.
If Lindsey was brought back, I think it would have to be the actual farewell. But I think Stevie would rather have their SalesForce concert be her last gig with FM and she'd once again fire herself before share a stage with Lindsey.

It certainly feels like something is in the works. Mick, Chris, Stevie and Lindsey have all been active on SM with Chris and Mick posting photos of the Rumours 5. I'm predicting 5 stadium gigs and headlining Glasto. Their voices are all shot but Lindsey will sample the **** out of it to at least make it sound like our band. Mike and Neil can stay with their bands and **** right off.

Obviously, never say never with Fleetwood Mac, but I seriously doubt Lindsey will be back. Christine and Mick might want it, but I think Lindsey burned his bridges with Stevie and Irving. After that interview, I can’t see there being any realistic chance of him coming back.

I'm afraid I must agree with this. Mick would be for it of course, and John and Chris would come back for limited shows and big cash, but Stevie won't.
I think if she really, really thought she wanted to do it (and could get them to give her at least 50% of the money -- seriously) she *might* do it... and I think azoff would probably back her on that... recall he said he was 100% aligned with Stevie and always had been. (Which is why I never, ever, ever understood why LB made him his manager.) But that's just playing "what if". It won't go. Not after the response she issued to his comments, where she tiptoed right up to the line of revealing the dirty laundry she'd publicly glossed over for years (her bit about since 1968 and multiple specific incidents)...

$he would probably do it, IF $he could get 50%. JUST. FOR. SPITE. And dictate that the rest split the other 50% equally.
Can you imagine how $he'd stick it to Lindsey? "So how does that 12.5% feel, Lindsey?"
And the saddest part is, he'd probably do it for 12.5%. He's given up his manhood, as far as FM is concerned.

I think they should …(whether they will is a different matter.).
Play 2 big farewell concerts ..out of respect for their music and their huge legacy.
As far as Mick goes, he’ll earn some readies.
Lindsey can hold onto their place in music history. And close the circle..
Chris and John can get together on a stage one last time.
And Stevie can wear something other than black….. and can sing some of her fabulous songs with her backing group that made them ..

Stop back pedaling. You've been around long enough to know these people are toxic, dis-functional and love MONEY AND FAME. That "never say Never" is what they live for.
Even if none of them can sing, they'll find a way. Incidentally, I was listening to Stevie's current live songs and wow, so bad.

She's sounded like that for awhile now. IMHO she's actually doing pretty good for her age but I fear age is going to change things for her shortly. Jon Bon Jovi and Don Dokken literally cant tour anymore because they cant sing period anymore. Bon Jovi pipes in lead vocals to save Jon and boy is he rough otherwise. I give Stevie props for never piping in vocals (at least no one has ever alleged that). Her concerts are 100% live which is a very rare thing these days.

I am friends with a goat lover and even she cringed at the show. And she's fought me for saying goat isn't the second coming. Maybe goat should sweeten the sound. Plus, she (friend) said the set list was the same ole' same ole... And to make it worse, she added Crying the show after.

I am choking from laughing so hard, primarily because it's true. I can't believe I am saying this, and I have thought about it in forever but this thread has made the wheels start spinning. I actually could envision a scenario where Stevie caves here. Whether she likes it or not, of all the younger generation artists she hitches her wagon to, the only one who is really out there on a global scale is Harry. She's doing the insufferable Vanessa Carlton ( I am sorry but she is TERRIBLE) a favor by letting her open for Stevie. And Haim--they are pretty niche. Chris Isaak? I like him, but not sure what he's up to. Harry is out there on his own, has a dueling residency at MSG with Billy Joel. He doesn't need Stevie--but she may need him to stay relevant, Unless of course the Rhiannon musical/movie/miniseries is really coming. I know Lindsey is the one always talking about their legacy, but I do think it matters to Stevie too. She just has a bigger platform......right now. She and Lindsey probably have more money than the rest of them, so it's not a money thing. It's a legacy and ego thing for her. And won't she love to be the bigger person and let Lindsey back after firing herself! Azoff would totally cave. He's a money grubbing w---e second only to Mick "the barista" Fleetwood. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2 of them sleep in beds made of benjamins. And an FM tour--the final farewell with the rumours 5 would probably take in more money than the Classic East and West.
All this said, I think the chances are low--Christine, gotta love her, sounds awful and John--I don't think he cares! God bless him. If it were to happen, probably a bunch of stadium tours in US and Europe and they fade away.
Until then, I will be seeing Lindsey at the Paramount and trying to figure out where to see Stevie.

Assuming they get over it and reunite. It would be for spring 2023. Not before, I suppose. Even if it was in the first quarter, those guys... already 70+... and those voices, I don't expect it to be a great show.
Well the Stones are on tour, and I saw some Paris videos, it was great, so everything is possible for Fleetwood Mac even at that age, but I really don't think I would enjoy it. I didn't like those voices in their latest gigs. Plus all the ugly drama we saw in 2018... Again together? Frankly my dear I don't give a damn.

I agree that Christine and Stevie sound bad. Lindsey sounds better, but nothing like he used to.
But here’s the thing- when I saw FM in 2018 or whenever it was, and Isn’t It Midnight came on, I didn’t give a f*** that Christine’s voice was shot! It was awesome hearing one of my favorite songs live. So yeah, their voices are shot and you know what? I don’t care and I would see them again anyway, knowing this would have to be the last time I’d have the chance.

It makes me sad to see them like this. Knockin' on death's door, with no voices left. I'll pass.
I don't even want another BuckVie tour. I'd love an album, but it's rocking chair time for everyone but Lindsey.

This Tour is Stevie's worst setlist. At least when she was touring after TISL w.o. a new album, she was singing great songs like Sorcerer, Beauty and the Beast, How Still My Love, Fall From Grace, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, and not singing a diluted version of Moonlight, two minutes of Wild Heart and the boring Lindsey produced Soldier's Angel.

I agree. HOWEVER, am I the only one that it makes REALLY SAD, to see them up there, when our grandparents were in nursing homes at their ages? Looking all tired, with no voices left. THAT, is the definition of sad, to me.

You might be the only one here who feels sad, but that’s ok! Your feelings are valid :xoxo:
Why do it? Because it feels great to be applauded by folks who are happy to see you? Because people can live productive lives after they turn 70? Because they enjoy singing? Because for two+ hours they (and the fans) can forget about the crap going on in the world?
I’m sure you’re right about Jon Bon Jovi”s voice, but if I were a big fan, and I had an attachment to his songs- for example, instead of Landslide striking a chord in my heart, it was Living on a Prayer LOL then yes, I would want to see him live. Especially if it seemed like it could be the last chance to see him live.
I haven’t met anyone here in person or communicated with anyone outside of this board, with the exception of Hawkeye, who sadly doesn’t post here anymore. We were going to see Lindsey live in 2019 but unfortunately he wasn’t able to make it due to the weather (but he generously gave me his ticket which was in the 2nd row and I had the best time, as my ticket was in literally the very back- thank you so much Hawkeye, if you happen to see this)! However, I think it would be fun to see FM with some of you folks, especially since this truly would be the last opportunity we had. Unfortunately, I agree if they did tour, it would be a very limited tour, and I’m not really interested in driving more than 4 hours to see them. Homer, your commentary during the show would be worth the price of admission alone!

My mom was just over a week shy of a year older than Christine. She’d had a massive stroke and a few TIAs by 2014, the last time she saw Fleetwood Mac. The $h!t-eating grin on her face when she saw Christine up there rocking out made me feel just the opposite. It’s a small moment of victory that they’re still alive and better than most their age.

I've always been afraid of death. It makes me really sad to watch them, especially Christine, looking so old and fragile up there, knowing what's coming for them. And wondering if they're wondering about that, too.
I'd be much more at peace, knowing that they're living on a lake, doing next to nothing, other than hanging with friends every evening. That sounds peaceful. Trying to croak your songs at 80, in front of 20K people, sounds like you're rushing the process of exit.

Of course they can be productive, but when your gift is seriously fading...there's a gracious time as a performer, to leave the stage. I just don't want it to become more sad than it already is. At BuckVie, realizing that Christine(nor Brett) was playing the karaoke keyboard parts, made me realize that the end IS here. It's time for watching the sun set with your friends. I hope they live 25 more years, enjoying their golden years.

Chris, Stevie and Mick all had at least one parent live life with health older than they all are now. Some of them have some good genes for long life.
Its still frustrating to think Mirage (1982) was the last great album of these 5 together. I wish they would have got back together and made a studio album before the Dance tour. That was a missed opportunity and marked the beginning of just touring for nostalgia.

Whose parent lived the longest? Mick's? She was in her 90s.
Was The Dance really the beginning of nostalgia? They played four new songs (though two of those songs used recycled lyrics).
Then you had SYW in 2003. After SYW is when Stevie didn't want to any recording with Lindsey.

You could probably argue that like so many bands of their era, they started to become a nostalgia act from a live perspective in the 90's...or maybe even as early as Behind the Mask. How many people were going to see them in 1990 to hear Love is Dangerous or Stand on the Rock?
If the criteria is avoiding new music or not touring to promote a new album, then I guess they became one fully in 2009. "Unleash the furies"...shut up Stevie. Instead of doing something interesting (hello, Tusk at 30...do a Tusk heavy set and celebrate a re-release of the album or something), they elected to just come out and say we're playing a greatest hits set. Without a doubt that's when they officially became nostalgia. Of course in 2013 they had the EP and the two songs from that in the set. Whatever they did in 2018-19 was 100% nostalgia with 2 band members on stage who never created music with this band once.
She's sounded like that for awhile now. IMHO she's actually doing pretty good for her age but I fear age is going to change things for her shortly. From what I have heard of JBJ's shows on his tour earlier this year, he ain't even close to piping in enough. His voice is shot and even with keys lowered he can't hit any notes. It's not even so much the ability to sing in key as much as I heard several instances of him using extremely weird phrasing and seemingly unable to keep up with the song. Honestly it was sad and this is coming from an 80's baby who is the first one old man jumping at a wedding when Living on a Prayer comes on.
Agree that as much as I find nauseating about Stevie, her desire to keep the shows as natural as possible (even if it means a million people on stage) is refreshing.
I'd be shocked if she shared a stage with him ever again too. It isn't going to be money at this juncture. Why would a Lindsey+Stevie reunited Fleetwood Mac do any more to draw more money than what they did in 2018-19? That proved that as long as La Nicks is front and center, they can slot in anyone to play guitar and sing Go Your Own Way. So from a money standpoint, unless LB is willing to take the same kind of cut that Neil+Mike did (which I'm sure was less than LB's normal share), is there motivation? There's no premise to sell. There's no 1997 "OMG THE MAC IS BACK" thing...and there's no "OMG CHRISTINE IS BACK WITH THEM!" 2014 thing. We've had countless tours with all incarnations of this band and I just don't see the motivation for them to come back together and agree to put 2018 behind all of them. Lindsey might want it. Mick might want it. But Stevie? I feel like she'd just keep doing what she's doing solo this year vs. going back to that.
And I'm really not positive that the McVie's could do much anymore beyond a couple shows. That said, I could see another Classic type thing with Eagles and some others and Neil and Mike stepping back in for a couple shows.
They are a band of missed opportunities. An album before The Dance would have been really nice and well received. An album after The Dance too - that shouldn't have waited 6 years. Not to mention the missed touring opportunities. No creativity. They all wanted to continue in 1998 except Chris. Retool the set, release Buckingham Nicks on CD, and tour with the foursome 'celebrating' that album's 25th anniversary and continue to ride The Dance/Stevie+Lindsey loveathon that the public adored so much in 1997.

True but at least they had a new album to promote and play live. The 1990 concerts were especially important because Rick and Billy both recorded new songs for the album. We got a nice sampling of new songs which showcased the "new" band. They were trying to erase the "Lindsey replacements" stigma. It was their band now with their own songs.
I dont hate the Dance new songs but I always found it a bit lazy. Stevie's demo of Street Girl was better than the Mac's live performance of it.
2 huge missed opportunities for the band: regrouping a bit earlier and recording a studio album before The Dance tour and instead of running back on the road in 2014 after a huge 2013 tour, a studio album and touring in 2015. But money is more important than art these days. The rush to commit to another tour in both instances without new material appealed to everyone (maybe not Lindsey). Its easy. You dont have to fight in the studio and you get filthy rich. They are not alone. Its what all the bands do now. The money made from touring with ticket prices far exceeds the desire for new songs.

Spot on. I just wish their live performances were more interesting. Do some type of album gimmick vs. releasing an album. The Eagles Hotel California performances were incredible. Would it be better if Glenn was still alive or with Felder there? Of course. Nonetheless, they at least did SOMETHING to establish a unique element for the tour they've now been doing for a few years.
I follow the Stones pretty thoroughly and their fans complain non stop about the boring setlists and the fact that once you hear the beginning to You Can't Always Get What You Want, you know the rest of the show. That said, 60 years in, they put a song into the set this year that they've never played before. Played a new song at nearly every show that was released in 2020. And still manage to make adjustments (even if it's just 1-2 songs) to their set every single show.
A reunited Rumours 5 has no purpose anymore. Even for me, I don't even get the appeal despite my being a fan of this band for decades. Another regurgitation of Chain/Dreams/YMLF/Rhiannon/SHN/Tusk/Landslide/Big Love/SYLM/GDW/ISA/Gypsy/YMLF/GYOW/World Turning/Don't Stop? With worse voices? Even slower tempos? And a phony "setting aside" of the drama from 2018? Are Stevie and Lindsey going to kiss? They missed the opportunity to put a bow on the band and go out with any dignity. I don't think there's motivation for the band anymore nor for the fans.

But Fleetwood Mac fans are odd (aren't we all though). They never got into new songs. Believe it or not but the fans were not into the Rumours album early in the tour and they scaled back many new songs. The fans were not that much into new Tusk songs either. I've heard Stevie, Chris and I think Lindsey say they learned early on not to perform many new songs live while promoting an album. Save them for the next tour when the fans "know" them better.
Can you imagine Bruce saying this? His fans would know every new song he played.
We on this board are the exception. If my dream setlist was played, half the arena would walk out. I also think this is the reason why Isn't it Midnight, Storms, and Hypnotized were dropped from the last tour. While each is a great song, the band could see the empty stares and blank faces. We know the rarity of playing these great songs and the band felt the same way. Unfortunately the "fans" did not feel the same way.

From 2008 on, Stevie prevented FM from making music because she said Lindsey was mean to her during the recording of SYW. Mick and John should have told her to do her job or don't get paid. They also should have done something about Lindsey too considering how evil Stevie and the fans say he was.

If Stevie dyed her hair orange and flew over the audience in a trash can like Cyndi Lauper during Landslide or Chris rode a Harley on stage like Rob Halford then I would consider going to a possible reunion of this 5. Other than that.....meh.

Once Christine was out, the guys should have formed an offshoot and released the original GoS as Buckingham Fleetwood McVie no later than 1999. This would have given them an entity to record, release, and tour behind new music when Stevie didn’t want to do band projects.

Bruce would say this is what we’re playing and you’re going to listen to it. I saw Bruce in Buffalo at the end of his 2009 tour when he was doing full albums inside every set list. He played his first album that night - Greetings from Asbury Park. Very few popular songs on that one.
It’s the lack of variation in the songs. The lack of interesting arrangements from tour to tour. Even Lindsey the artist - his solos haven’t had any nuance or tour specific sound in years. It’s lather rinse repeat. And the lack of any sort of interesting theme aside from “heres those same songs again.”

The Men of Mac would have been a very interesting way to remain active while Stevie was not interested. But also, they’d never do it. I doubt Mick in 1998-9 would want to go back to playing small shows so soon after the county fair circuit before The Dance. Again, you’d risk pissing off Stevie and ending Fleetwood Mac as an arena band.

Maybe.
I don’t think there'd have been the expectations for something like Buckingham Fleetwood McVie compared to an entity called Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac would still have been an arena rock band in this scenario. Maybe it would have been larger than Lindsey solo/Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, but it would be its own thing.
I also don’t think Stevie would have been threatened by it, especially if she was working on new music. The guys having their own entity would have taken pressure off of her to make more Fleetwood Mac music. Plus, it would’ve been easy to say Lindsey needed a rhythm section and Mick and John needed the work.
In any case, crediting the original GoS to Buckingham Fleetwood McVie would have been more accurate, since it wasn’t quite Fleetwood Mac, but not quite solo, and would have been better than pissing away six years debating if it should be released as a solo album or merged into a Fleetwood Mac album.

Before the Dance performance, FM had hit rock bottom. No Lindsey, Christine, or Stevie. The Dance was originally a 2 night gig to be aired as a special on MTV. No one expected it to become the phenomenon it was, and it was so successful it became a worldwide tour. I only mention this because I don’t think an album of new music by the Rumours 5 would have happened because no one expected a new album by FM would be successful at that time.
Also, they debuted 4 new songs for the Dance. That was average for the Mac when they released Mirage and Tango, they played 4 new songs from each album.

I don’t think it’s a question of Mick thinking he’s too good to play the county fair circuit at all. Note that for the Buck/Vie album, which was a FM album, the tour excluded Mick and John, and I would bet big money it was not their decision to not tour, but rather Lindsey and Christine’s decision. Why pay John and Mick their share of the tour profits when they can hire studio musicians and make more profits for themselves?

Those songs were not from a studio album. Any new material would have been better accepted if there was an album being promoted. I doubt very many people bought the Dance because of the "new" songs. I get it, the money was easy to tour and release a live album. My point is while they were still creative I wish there was a studio album to surprise everyone and then toured to promote it.

Got it. That’s probably true about the new material being better accepted, but on the other hand, I feel like most folks who went to see the Dance tour had also seen the Dance special on TV, so they were already familiar with the new songs. As you said earlier, those new songs were lazy- personally I think they were pretty bad. I can tolerate My Little Demon but that’s it. I also think it says a lot about FM’s creativity even in 1996 that despite having 4 new songs, it was Silver Springs and Landslide that got significant radio play.

At some point in the 90s touring was such a cash cow and it changed the music business. In the older days a big selling album yielded the same if not more than a tour. Those days are long gone.
My Wild Heart ticket cost almost as much as the album. Ticketmaster and other entities changed that. Most people prefer to go to summer amphitheaters and hear the same songs over and over again they can sing along to.
I heard Smokey Robinson say on Stern once that there are songs he has to do so they dont throw meat at him. Many performers get locked out of the creative process due to the big money machine.

Thing is—with the exception of Lindsey, none of these musicians work on their instrument(s) between tours, so a reunion of these “advanced in age” persons would demonstrate further ossification and creakiness. If they were really going to do even a handful of shows well, Christine would need to stop watching Narcos and start practicing again, building up stamina in her legs and hands (I can’t imagine how degraded her voice has become), John would have to pick up the bass, and maybe Stevie would have to switch to flat shoes (to match the flat vocals!). Even Mick is a shadow of his former self, when it comes to playing.

I bet Mick and John didn't tour with Chris and Lindsey in 2017 to not p*** of Stevie. If those 4 had toured, it would had to have been called Fleetwood Mac.
Remember Stevie lied when she was asked by RollingStone why she wasn't on the LBCM album, she said she had been on the road since September 2016, so she didn't get their premise; the BuckVie album was worked on in from 2014-2016 - the work didn't start when she was on her 24 Karat Gold Tour. I think that's a given at least in my eyes. But that caused a big debate and ruckus on the board at the time. There is not a question in my mind when Stevie refused to partake, they went on without her. They purposely did not call it Fleetwood Mac to not piss her off. They needed her for the big tour where the contracts were signed that was coming up. When she got crankier and crankier that not only the band "played on" but dare tour without her was too much. I am sure Mick would have loved to have joined Chris and Lindsey on tour but he did not want to poke Mama bear. Stevie melted down when Lindsey wrote and sung World Turning with Chris. And I guess she used "abuse" (emotional, verbal, or violent) by Lindsey as a threat to Mick. In other words, "I'll go public with it Mick" and then Mick would've been asked why didn't you do anything about it as the band leader all those years ago.

I really don’t think that fear of Stevie kept John and Mick from touring with Christine and Lindsey. You said if the four of them had toured, they would have had to call it Fleetwood Mac… yet the four of them recorded the album, and they called it Buck/Vie, not Fleetwood Mac. They could have done the same with the tour.
There are two reasons I can think of that John and Mick didn’t join them on that tour- they didn’t want to because they knew it wouldn’t be as big a moneymaker without Stevie or they weren’t invited to. I’m not sure about John, but knowing Mick and his love for being on the road and making some money, any money, I have a hard time imagining he declined.
Something that just occurred to me… Lindsey said right around the time of the Dance that he was concerned that FM touring with REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar might have damaged the legacy of FM. The same could be said of the band if they had concluded with the Buck/Vie album and tour. Playing casinos would not have been a high note for FM to go out on.

There would be people who say Lindsey isn't creative because he waits years in between albums, he has covers on his records, and his albums are the same sound. Right now, he is touring an album that's one year old.
Stevie said she has 2 new songs she had a producer work on. Her current tour is really a slowed down Stevie. So different from Debbie Harry, Gladys, or Cher who get down on stage.

I gotta disagree here… as I remember things back in 1996, the last incarnation of FM was Mick, John, Billy, Dave, and Bekka. They released Time which didn’t even chart, and they toured with REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar. They were on the ballot for the RRHOF twice and didn't make it. Even Stevie’s last album had bombed. Because of the success of the Eagles, MTV tried it again with FM, this time with the Rumours 5. I remember when the news was released that it got mixed results. Some people said it was beating a dead horse, it was too late in the game for a revival, stuff like that. But after the 2 night recording, the word of mouth spread like wildfire about how incredible it was, and MTV knew they had a hit. And it was, indeed, a ratings smash and had a ton of critical acclaim. And so the tour was started and they made it into the RRHOF the next year. I really don’t believe it was the done deal you think it was, that it was inherently going to a phenomenon. FM worked hard to make that happen, but it could have just been a one time thing. That was my perception.
I also remember reading a fantastic review of the first night of the taped concert by a FM fan, full of observations that only FM fans like us would appreciate. For example, when Silver Springs began, they thought it was going to be Wish You Were Here at first, which blew me away because I’d never realized how much the intros sound alike. He said it was funny because he was expecting Christine to sing and couldn’t understand why Stevie was in front of the mic right from the get go. Also, he said that the crowd went wild for Lindsey and Christine, but was much more restrained for Stevie. He said it felt like she had to earn the applause more after her songs than Lindsey and Christine, right up until Landslide- he said it was the proverbial “it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop” until the crowd roared with applause. That’s probably why Stevie seemed so taken aback, because it was the first time she had gotten such a rousing response that night. There were more great observations, but those were the ones I remembered.
They knew it was going to be huge, because the Eagles did it 3 years before.
I’m with you. I agree that Fleetwood Mac prior to The Dance was dead. Most of the people who were enthralled by seeing The Dance on TV probably didn’t even know the band had an album called Time nor that they had toured three years prior. But to think that the money that went into setting up The Dance was done on hope is not realistic. Hell Freezes Over (1994) was the template and that turned into a huge success for Eagles who were still touring that reunion into 1996. There was renewed interest in Fleetwood Mac with bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Hole recording covers, Lindsey and Stevie doing Twisted, and Stevie covering her timeless classic  Free Fallin’ for the Party of Five soundtrack. Enough time had passed from the low period of the early 90’s.
The classic bands were not only getting their old fans interested but it was perfect timing to turn their kids on to this stuff. My senior yearbook (98) had a pop culture page in it that talked about The Dance reunion because it was so freaking popular across generations. That concert was EVERYWHERE that year. Did they know it would be as huge as it was? Maybe not. But they knew the timing was perfect and that it would have legs. By copying Hell Freezes Over in almost every single way, they were pretty much guaranteed a hit.

Yep. The Eagles had been dead for 14 years. And even though FM had been limping along at county fairs circuits, it was all about THE RECONVENING. The Eagles got back together, and so did the real FM.

Agree completely. SYW isn't a bad album per se. It's just not a good album. There I said it.
Also, They didn't have much chemistry. The chemistry they had left, shows up in spurts. But after this album, it's just a jukebox.

There is one calculation you have misread IMHO. You are correct, the Time and Street Angel flop, FM was dead. Street Angel was not just a flop. Stevie had poor concert numbers and cancelled the second leg of her tour. She was also playing county fairs. I was living in West Palm Beach then and we were all disappointed her show was not going to happen. She walked off stage and swore she would never perform again. FM was also playing nightclubs at one point. They came to a nightclub in 1994 in my area and the band stayed at a dirty Holiday Inn.
You realize the same managers who manage the Eagles also worked with Nicks, etc. A huge tour like that takes lots of talk and contracts. The MTV special was to promote the Dance tour. You speak of it as a small event that had no intent to promote an upcomign tour. That would make no sense for the band to reunite for no reason for a small crowd. That concert was recorded and broadcast as promotion for the tour. By the time the mid to late 90s rolled around the cash grab concert by oldie bands were in full swing. If you watch the Dance rehearsal interviews they can never explain why they got back together. Its so obvious they reunited for the money and not creativity. The concert brokers were thrilled they had another monster 70s band reuniting to tour.
What annoyed me the most was how many times you heard "reunited for the first time in 15 years." It was like the band never carried on after Lindsey left. Even during the Clinton inaugural in 1992, they made a fuss......on the stage together for the first time in a decade....... Well not really....just with Lindsey.
You are out of your mind if you think the Dance reunion was an organic response to them casually getting back together. I really cant believe you think a huge produced recorded concert that was broadcast on MTV, PBS, and VH1 was organic and the reviews of the show made the band say hmmmmmm, lets tour now. The Eagles tour was the blueprint. Show me the money!

I don't feel Street Angel bombed. I think if an album doesn't chart it bombs (as in Lindsey's self-titled album and Mike Campbell's Dirty Knobs albums).
Stevie also only had one number one album her whole career. Wild Heart should have been a #1 record given she went all disco/Madonna with Stand Back. Rock a Little and Other Side weren't smash albums either.
Plus her highest solo song charting of Number 3 was a song she didn't contribute writing for.

I believe it's in The Dance doc that Rob Cavallo talks about the spark for doing The Dance came from him... He talks about how Lindsey had done a solo record and wanted to get himself back out as a solo artist. And Rob states that he said to Lindsey "You've been out of the industry's eye for a number of years now. You know what would get your name back out there in the biggest possible way? A reunion, on soundstage, filmed." I'm sure in those conversations the decision was made to not just film but professionally record it in the hopes of releasing an album from it, hence, they did. The same conversation would have been had in Stevie's camp, with her management reaching the same conclusion... she was not at the forefront of the industry anymore, tours not selling so much, etc. The Dance was a business decision for all of them far more than an artistic decision at that time (with the understanding that by getting lots of attention that would get them the industry support to then afterwards go on to do other artistic things.)
The thing is that now Stevie sees herself totally differently. She said after the tour with the Pretenders that that tour "puts me in a different level as a solo performer". She wasn't second to Rod Stewart or whoever, SHE was the headliner and with the right opening act she realized she could now play the same big venues but WITHOUT Fleetwood Mac. Less hassle of compromising to other people's visions, no sharing of the profits, no compromising on tour schedules, being the BIG BOSS of everyone and everything... this boosted her confidence and she figures she fought long and hard for that and she is not giving that up for anyone or anything again...:distress: She always talked about never leaving FM because loyalty blah blah blah but really she didn't ever leave them because it was her safety net. She's come to realize at this point in her career, the tables have turned, and she does. not. need. them. SHE has become THEIR safety net now. She's got full control, not even Lindsey can touch her now, and she ain't giving up for nobody.
During The Dance, she needed THEM. Her career was stalled out. LB's solo career was stalled out. FM's career was stalled out. They all had motivat$on to get back together. This band has always been and will always be motivated by the moolah.... and for Stevie, the fame. She literally has given over her whole life to creating the legend of "Stevie Nicks" and she's finally gotten the payout for that she wanted. It's her validation that it was all worth it. She feels like she's swallowed enough sh^t and she's not swallowing any more.

For quite a while Stevie could play the sheds and slightly smaller arenas with 10-12k seats without a problem. By the time the Rod Stewart / Pretenders tours came along, she had already been touring a whole bunch. She was over saturating the market. If you take into account things kicking off with the SYW tour in 2003 and all of her subsequent solo tours and FM tours that followed, that's a lot.
The pandemic clearly helped ticket demand for her. She fell off the radar for three years and now she's nearly selling out Pine Knob in Detroit. You can sit on the lawn for the bargain price of $150.00 LOL.

If Rob C. was the catalyst for The Dance, then it started when Fleetwood Mac was doing Time.
Lindsey came off the road in August, 1993, two months before Dave Mason joined, so that conversation would have had to happen after Lindsey reconnected with Christine and the new and coke-free Mick, long before it was announced Mick was working on Lindsey’s new album.
I could see someone putting the bug in Lindsey’s head that a reunion tour would be great for his solo career. Billy said he knew the band was over and tried warning Bekka and Dave because he knew the attorneys.
That would certainly explain why Time was essentially DOA.

I could see that happening, especially with the OOTC lack of commercial and road success. It's hard to downgrade on the road.
And don't forget, he passed on "the lucrative" Tango Tour money. Even if a reunion was just an idea at this point, it would make so much sense and help all of them collectively and individually.

The way she spoke about Twisted was like she just wrote Silver Springs or something. She was just coming out of a very dark place and recording again. So to her it seemed like a masterpiece. It was the most meh song I ever heard. I am not joking but Jane is a far better song.

Not at all.
Rob C. was an in-house producer for WB. Lindsey wasn’t his employer, WB was. That’s a red flag that the label wasn’t going to allow Lindsey the same creative free reign he’d previously enjoyed.
Furthermore, if a WB employee was pushing for a Hell Freezes Over-type reunion and encouraging Lindsey to get Mick involved on the project, that was coming from much higher on the chain of command. So, not only were the higher ups at WB pushing for a Rumours reunion, but they also intentionally decided to tank Time while it was still being recorded.
By the time Mick got involved with Lindsey’s album and all of the industry guys started coming around, Billy knew the Time lineup was over and tried to warn Bekka and Dave.
In any case, all of the “everything came together very organically” was about as sincere as the “it just felt like a duet album.”

Stevie needed a relaunch. Quitting smoking, losing weight, getting a makeover, and adopting the older, wiser godmother who survived it persona was the key to successfully redefining her public image. She probably could have done it as a solo artist, with special guests like Billy Corgan, Courtney Love, and Dave Grohl, but it wouldn’t have been nearly as profound or as durable as a Fleetwood Mac reunion.

I am still not understanding your DOA statement. Everyone knew FM was done. I dont think Billy needed to tell anyone. Stevie was usually the savior of the band but when her solo album tanked it was no surprise that Time would not chart. Christine never wanted to participate and was never intended to participate. Warner Brothers sort of made her participate where they knew themselves a FM album without a known singer is a waste of time and energy. Chris was loyal to the band and only participated to make sure FM had an album to put out. Thats all you need to know about Time when even your record company has serious doubts if it should even happen. Having said that, I dont think anyone did not give their 100% to the album. Chris had at least 2 good songs.
I dont buy the Dance was presented to the band this early though. Chris bolted back to England and they needed that flop of the Dance to finally hit rock bottom. The next year was 1996 and the darkest days for everyone.
Still not quite understanding your DOA statement.

Touring a one-year-old album is hardly resting. In their heyday, each of Mac’s tours was at least a year long. I’m glad he’s getting mileage out of the best Mac-related solo album in years.

That was per Billy. Bekka purchased a $1 million house on the assumption they were going to be touring.
Christine never wanted to participate and was never intended to participate.
She was always on board for the album. Watch the pre-inauguration press conference. She talks about recording a new Fleetwood Mac album. There’s also the pictures of her with Bekka and Dave in the band prior to Billy coming back. Furthermore, she was always mentioned as a member who was retired from touring in all of the interviews they did at the time. Now, she eventually dropped out of the project, as did Richard Dashut, and the band submitted a version of the album without Christine’s songs, which was rejected by the label, but it’s not accurate to say she was never intended to participate.
Thats all you need to know about Time when even your record company has serious doubts if it should even happen.
They started that project before Hell Freezes Over was even an idea, so I don’t know if that was the overarching sentiment at the beginning. I doubt anyone though it would be a hit, but it’s low sales aren’t necessarily reflective of that lineup or the actual music as it is the label killing it to make room for the classic lineup reunion.
Chris bolted back to England and they needed that flop of the Dance to finally hit rock bottom.
Christine was going back and forth since at least 1990.
The next year was 1996 and the darkest days for everyone.
Not true. In early 1996, Mick announced he was on Lindsey’s upcoming album. Then there was “Twisted” and the news of John and Christine participating on Lindsey’s album. Everyone but Lindsey went to the Kentucky Derby together, with Steve Winwood standing in for Lindsey. It was very obvious the Rumours band was reuniting.
Still not quite understanding your DOA statement.
DOA, as in there was going to be no promotion beyond a single ad in Rolling Stone. No videos, no TV appearances, minimal airplay for “I Do.” And, no tour. Other than a corporate gig, the Time lineup ended with the release of the album. Time was dead on arrival because the Rumours reunion was already in the works, probably as early as late-1994.

Steve. The inauguration was January 1993. Of course there was spin and optimism. You think they were going to say, we hate eachother and wont work together. You are out of your mind if you think Time was planned at that time. The 1994 LA earthquake changed Chris and that's when she decided to go back to England faster than she planned. You can even read about Time on the wikipedia page. Her arm was twisted by Warner Brothers. She was originally NOT supposed to be on the album.
I know I wont convince you of anything but Chris's issues started with the 1994 earthquake and she was done living in LA. She even put a song on Time about it. You are crazy to infer at this time her or the band was convinced to do the Dance in a few years.
You dont think 1996 was rock bottom? Mick working on a Lindsey album that was not going to be released in years? Stevie doing a song for a movie that no one heard and she walked off stage to never sing on stage again.
It does not matter how much Time was promoted, it was not going to chart thus the record company knew it was a waste of money.
Btw, Mick mentions it in his book about Chris and Time:
Fleetwood mentioned in his autobiography that Christine McVie did not originally intend to participate on the album (she had technically quit in 1990) but that Warner Bros. had insisted she appear. As such, her five featured songs were recorded separately from the full band and all guitar parts on these were played by session musician Michael Thompson, although Billy Burnette is featured on the album's only single, "I Do", which only charted in Canada.[4] "Hollywood" alludes to the homesickness that would cause her to retire temporarily from the band, while "Nights in Estoril" celebrated time spent at Estoril in Portugal with her then-husband Eddy Quintela, who was Portuguese himself.
Chris was a trooper again for the band giving in to let them try and remain relevant. She was done and out. She would have turned down the Dance If offered at this time. Was there chatter? Maybe but there is always chatter. I am talking about the serious approach of contracts, etc.

Steve. The inauguration was January 1993. Of course there was spin and optimism. You think they were going to say, we hate eachother and wont work together.
Christine and then John said that they were going to begin work on the new Fleetwood Mac album in April. That’s a little more than spin. Here’s the video. https://youtu.be/4Lc7hE9TIr0
You are out of your mind if you think Time was planned at that time.
And, yet, that video I posted says otherwise. At the time of that interview, the band was Mick, John, Christine, and Billy. Billy quit in April, Bekka was added in May, and Dave Mason sometime in the Fall. Christine was a part of that lineup. Again, there’s photographic evidence. I’m going on the facts as they happened in real time, not a book whitewashing the band’s history.
I know I wont convince you of anything but Chris's issues started with the 1994 earthquake and she was done living in LA.
That’s great. However, they started the album in late 1993.
You are crazy to infer at this time her or the band was convinced to do the Dance in a few years.
I think it started in late-1994, after the stunning successes of Hell Freezes Over and No Quarter.
You dont think 1996 was rock bottom? Mick working on a Lindsey album that was not going to be released in years? Stevie doing a song for a movie that no one heard and she walked off stage to never sing on stage again.
Between February and mid-May, 1996, Mick announced that he was working with Lindsey, the Time lineup was dissolved, “Twisted” was released, Stevie appeared with Mick, John, and Christine at the Kentucky Derby, and it came out that John and Christine were also working on Lindsey’s new album. The Mac was dead, long live the Mac.
It does not matter how much Time was promoted, it was not going to chart thus the record company knew it was a waste of money.
The bigger point is that they had zero intention of doing anything with the album months before it was released.
I remember Chris's online interview in 1995 where she said she was officially done and even questioned the Time lineup. That is something Chris never did, sort of bash the Mac.
She didn’t actually say she was done and the only one she singled out was Dave Mason, saying she wasn’t sure what he had to do with Fleetwood Mac. No mention of Bekka and only made a joke about Billy already nuts when he joined. Although, she certainly talked up Lindsey, which was…interesting.

Touring a one-year-old album is hardly resting. In their heyday, each of Mac’s tours was at least a year long. I’m glad he’s getting mileage out of the best Mac-related solo album in years.

Steve
My only issue with what you post is you are taking quotes and weaving them into something else. The band wanted to remain relevant and when they did press conferences they said things that were wishful thinking about their future. Stevie said in 1983 she was going to make a country album next. Chris said in 1984 she had such fun doing her solo album she was going to do another. I doubt her album 20 years later was the same album. With Chris finishing her house, quitting touring, and wanting to get back to England, she may truly meant she intended to record with the band in 1993. After the earthquake and her wanting to get back there could have changed her mind about that. Fleetwood Mac no longer included both Lindsey and Stevie. Stevie originally said she would still record with the band too. Then the Silver Springs fight happened and she was out. Chris did not want to record Time and only did so for loyalty to the band so Warner would let it happen. When your own record company is hesitant to let you do an album shows what they thought of this Time lineup.
If you dont think 1996 was the darkest of days for the Mac then when would you say it was? 1992 had the Dont Stop campaign song and Out of The Cradle released. 1993 had them on TV at the inaugural and perform at the Superbowl. 1994 Stevie was on tour and released a solo album. 1995 had them releasing an album. 1996 was crickets. No doubt that right after the Eagles reunion tour there was chatter about a reunion, would it not be great to get the 5 back? But this was the wrong time. The Mac needed to completely burn out and have those forgotten years to make it happen. You really think Chris would have said, sure I will tour again (after leaving for how much she hated it) just give me a year or two. I really doubt it was offered and is probably a good thing it was not because she would have shot it down. I also remember after the inaugural performance the band was bombarded with questions....are you guys getting back together and they were firm that they were not reuniting. I would take those quotes with the same grain of salt as the ones you are quoting. I just remember being bummed out after shooting down any reunion talk. Lindsey's long awaited solo album was waiting the wings for him. In Mick's last book he expresses regret forcing the Mac to continue on during those lean years. Time while not horrible is on an album list at #10 of the worst albums ever recorded.
This is my long distance dedication to you Steve:

Stop talking in platitudes when there are specific timelines and facts backing up what happened.
Christine AND John specified in the January, 1993 press conference that they were going into the studio in April to start on the next album. There are band picture from late-93/early-94 of Mick, John, Christine, Bekka, and Dave before Billy rejoined. Every interview from 1994 says that she’s still a member and contributing to the recording. She even said during one of the LBCM interviews that she stopped going to the studio when things became acrimonious with Dave Mason, a sentiment also expressed by Richard Dashut. Those are verifiable facts. Does any of that sound like she was never intended to be on the album?
Christine’s Time songs were most likely the studio demos made while the band was looking for a guitarist, hence Michael Thompson. Billy left the band shortly after the sessions started, hence why he’s on “I Do.”

Billy left the band in April, 1993 but came back some time in early 1994, in time for the tour. There was an interview with Dave Mason from around the time of the 1994 tour that made it sound like Billy was considered a sideman. (Helping us fill out the sound…)
When bands make an album, they record demo versions of the songs in the studio that are actually good enough to be released (think “Sweet Girl” from Enchanted). I think Christine’s Time songs were studio demos, which began in April, 1993. “I Do” would have been the first one recorded before Billy quit.

Steve. Of course! I am not even sure what you are arguing. I think I know but not sure. I never said Chris was not openly talking about and intent on recording with the band. Those were her original plans when she announced her departure in 1990 from touring. She said it again in 1993, etc. I dont think any of that is in dispute. I only pointed out that things change and evolve with Fleetwood Mac all the time. What they say and do are usually 5 different things. Christine's anxiety grew even more after 1994 and did not want to record Time. Mick has said it in his book and its even on the Time wikipedia page. Of course there will always be Chris demos floating around. And she was a good girl and committed to Time.
You are saying Chris knew about the Dance and had committed as early as 1995? I say no way. Logic points she would not have done that. She was the hard one to move since she did not want to tour. But after a few years away she finally agreed to a tour of the states only and even that she was not thrilled about. She already came close or intended to abort her recording plans with the band. Stevie also aborted her recording promise. Lets pretend The Dance never happened. Time was such a flop do you think Warner would have let the band record another album? I think not. I think everyone knew the band was toast at that time. Even Mick publicly states his regret for trying to keep going. The band was done and that needed to happen before anyone would have taken a reunion seriously. If your theory is right, they would have regrouped after the inaugural and announced a reunion tour.
Now here is something that I don't find a coincidence. The ultimate trivial question. Guess what song was included in the Japanese release of Time? The extended mix of Little Lies. Clearly they were using the drama of Time to make Little Lies a hit in Japan.

Except you said that she was never intended to be on Time, which is verifiably not true.
Yes, the project took a radical change from what she was signed on for, and she eventually dropped out of the project, but she was always intended to be on the album.
That said, Bekka Bramlett joining seemed pretty inevitable to me going back to 1992, and Mick seemed pretty high on Dave Mason when I met him at a Zoo show, so I wasn’t especially surprised that’s the turn the band took, especially after Billy dropped out.
I only pointed out that things change and evolve with Fleetwood Mac all the time.
However, in the case of Christine on Time, they specifically said this is what they we’re doing and that’s what they ended up doing.
Christine's anxiety grew even more after 1994 and did not want to record Time.
They’d already started recording. You can clearly hear her keyboards on the original “Blow By Blow” from Soccer Rocks The Globe.
You are saying Chris knew about the Dance and had committed as early as 1995?
I never said or suggested that Christine knew about The Dance back in late 1994, although I’m sure the possibility crossed her mind. It certainly seemed to have by the AOL chat.
I’m saying the label began working on killing off the Time lineup after Hell Freezes Over. They stuck Lindsey with Rob C., Rob C. started pushing Lindsey to do a Fleetwood Mac reunion. IIRC, Lindsey was working in the same studio as Fleetwood Mac, hence his appearance on “Nothing Without You.” Purely coincidental, I’m sure.
And, then Mick was added to Lindsey’s project, knowing “who should we get on bass” would eventually come up. The label was totally manipulating the situation. They knew getting Lindsey together with Mick was the only way he’d dissolve Fleetwood Mac. That’s when the industry types started coming around and when Billy saw the writing on the wall.
The problem is the label invested so much into Time that they had to release it, and the only remote possibility of recouping anything was adding Christine’s songs. So, the band got her studio demos and added them to the album.
Time was such a flop do you think Warner would have let the band record another album? I think not.
Two problems with this question. First, with Mo and Lenny gone from the label, Time was never going to get the kind of of promotion they gave OOTC to give it a chance to fail on its own. The label was already going to kill it. Second, the reason why is there was already a precedent of their peers/contemporaries having a massively successful reunion tour.
Even if it only got to ‘Lindsey Buckingham featuring Mick Fleetwood’, that was going to be an easier sell than a new lineup of Fleetwood Mac.
It’s been a long time since I watched that 1993 interview and wooo is it awkward at times. Lindsey couldn’t want to be somewhere any less. The comments about Mick’s book lol. I actually laughed several times.

The Rumours/carpark album version feels fast and frantic, as if they were trying to cram it into the album (which they were), or the tapes were sped up a bit.
By contrast, the Dance version feels languid and haunting, an appropriate tempo for the mournful lyrics.
Also, on the Rumours version, Stevie and Lindsey are pretty tinny and Stevie is harmonizing with herself half the time.
On the Dance dubs, the vocals are given more space to shine, especially Chris and Lindsey's deep and edgy harmonies.
The richer vocals and slower tempo all add up to a spine-tingling gravitas.

Sometimes when a singer is perfectly in tune it's fine.
But, when the authentic emotional presence is in a song.. the wavering of the pitch can give it that artistry of a masterpiece. There's no denying she did that in this performance.

No idea what you are talking about here.
The Rumours version doesn't sound "sped up" at all.... it sounds like the country song it was, with a great build up and killer outro.
The Dance version is the one at the off tempo.... it was slowed significantly not least because Stevie couldn't sing it as fast (nor as high) as the original.
The recorded version is superior, because her lead vocals are so much more refined. The Dance grates on me because she's so SHOUTY right off the bat....and then how do you build tension from there? You have to get even SHOUTIER. It ruins the build-up effect if you start too loud right out of the gate. But by 1997 she couldn't do the softer, higher vocals of the opening of the original.
The loss of a lot of Lindsey's gorgeous, tinkly acoustic guitar from the original also changes The Dance version..... and leaves a noticeable gap. Though I will say his solo on The Dance is quite lovely layered over the rhythm section.

Yes, it was nice and sweet and well performed. But I mean it wasnÂ’t the be-all and end-all of Fleetwood Mac Live. The highlight of the Dance was You Make Loving Fun, for my money. Maybe Everywhere and Temporary One, too. Christine is the vocalist prize at the Dance, even though her keyboard playing is pretty dull.

YMLF is a real accomplishment there. She sounds fantastic and the band is really cooking. I personally love Temporary One—and think it’s the strongest of the four “new” songs. It fits nicely into late 90s rock-pop.
I can’t speak much to her organ and keyboard work on the album since she’s muted or mixed down much of the time. But her piano playing on SS, Rhiannon (intro) and Songbird is very assured, even crisp.

No. In fact, they borrowed the intro to “Wish You Were Here.” It threw a bunch of us off at the time.

Everyone says that but it’s not exactly the same. WISH is little rolled chords in the tonic, SILVER is little rolled chords in the tonic and subdominant.
Also, the only acoustic piano that Brett played on the 1997 tour was OH DADDY. He played the piano and Christine played the B3. It was nice because we had never heard DADDY in concert with more than a B3.

In fairness, Christine is playing the exact opening chords to the original tune. That they sound like WYWH is probably because WYWH quotes SS.

No, not exactly the same. I can play you both and point out the little differences in person. The WISH piano is all tonic. The other is tonic and subdominant in alternation, with a descending arpeggio figure (which is even noted in the official sheet music for the DANCE). I would never argue that these intros aren't similar, only that they aren't identical, and Christine plays lots of different songs with similar parts she devises so it isn't anything weird.

The "unplugged" grand piano intros to Rhiannon and Silver Springs are wonderful.
Does anyone know how the grand came to be used on these songs for the Dance?
One potential theory could be that because Chris didn't like the spotlight pressure of performing Songbird, these songs gave her a chance to warm up.

The thing is, if they go away and retire quietly, we won't see them. I WANT to see them. What makes me sadder than seeing aged celebs is having them quietly fade away with less than a whimper, with a soundless disappearance. I hate that.
I always understand when the families want them to leave the limelight with their dignity intact, but it nags at me. I respect their privacy, but I want to know how it ended. Did they succumb to dementia? I want to take that last journey with them. I mean, it wouldn't be the best thing for them, but I've always been selfish and possessive and it would be the best thing for me.
Yes, seeing stars performing with dementia like Glenn Campbell and Tony Bennett was sad. Seeing Lindsey look so weak in the hospital bed after his surgery was sad and shocking, especially when we had no way of predicting what kind of recovery was in his future.
But just seeing them old and slow and voiceless . . . well, it's sad, but not as sad as the alternatives, for me.
Every 6 months or so, there are photos of Ringo and Paul McCartney going out to dinner and they hug outside of the restaurant and even after all that has happened, there's a part of me that just wants that for our crew. I want the hugs. Even though I know you guys will scoff at how phony they are.
I didn't want a retired Christine, happy, ensconced with her dogs away from my view. I wanted her slogging it out on stage, voice gone, unable to play keyboards, but up there with people I used to imagine she loved. I want that fantasy. I want it before death takes that last bastion of hope away.
I want them looking at each other with familiarity, tolerance, loathing cloaked by greed. I don't care.
Oh, that moment in SYLM when Lindsey says "yeaaaaah" and Christine points at him. It hurts to think I'll never see that again. Bring it on. Canes and all.

Exactly why I supported them in 2018. Yeah, Lindsey-Stevie whatever…Mick, John, and Christine were there. If that’s the last time I get to see those three, so be it. I’m unfazed by the idea of those three with different guitarists and will always go see them if they’re together.

I get it, but I'd rather have one final album, where all of their ailments and limitations can be worked out privately and then swathed over by whatever technology helps them still sound good. Lindsey Buckingham-Christine McVie was a joy to get. They both sounded great and I think they can do it again. I now Stevie could, too. So, rather than watching them hobble onto stage and croak into microphones, I have my heart set on the impossible--one last Mac blockbuster.

Oh yes, I'd prefer an album to a concert. I just think that the latter is more likely, even if both are only pipe dreams. But yes, that was the dream as soon as we heard Christine was returning: that the 5 of them would make new music together. I'd like more than an EP, but on the other end of the spectrum, we'd have to thwart Lindsey's desire for at least 15 songs. I'd settle for 6, 3 from each of them.
But it's harder for Stevie to work with Lindsey in the studio than it is on the stage. Leaving her demos with the band and staying out of the studio isn't really an option either, since she'd be unhappy with the finished product and cause a fight, initiating ultimatums at the finish line. I don't see how an album could ever materialize. Maybe she'd let Dave Stewart produce her songs and Lindsey and Christine would just sing on them.

YES
I can hear the Lindsey automaton's prerecorded capitulation speech now.
"Two score and fifteen years ago, Greeny brought forth off another continent a new band, conceived in London, and dedicated to the proposition that all members are created equal.
"But there was a coup, and we were engaged in a great civil war, testing whether our band, or any band so conceived and do dedicated, can long endure.
"Now I have come to realize that I must never smirk again, so that this band might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that I should do this.
"The world will little note, nor long remember, what solo music I put out. It is rather for me to be here dedicated to the big machine -- that I here highly resolve that our fans shall not have admired us in vain -- that this band, under Stevie, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that management of the band, by the Stevie, for the Stevie, shall continue unabated, until we perish from the earth ... (which by all accounts is probably imminent)."
