As long as you follow is one of my favorites. Hard to distinguish faves from "bests", if best is defined technically; at least to me since I'm not a professional musician. But I would replace Think about me with ALAYF. I like TAM, but never crazy about it. But that's just based on my personal faves list.

Not a bad list. I think her best song is Why but I dont have an issue with the songs listed. Its nearly impossible to rank her songs because they are all so good. Glad to see Oh Daddy get the love it deserves. No TRUE or REAL Fleetwood Mac fan can discard Oh Daddy.

Glad she’s getting any press and recognition, though there are some annoying inaccuracies. She married John in 1969, AFTER she participated in Mr. Wonderful. They were never songwriting partners. And then there’s this opinion regarding the period of 1970-74:
“For the next five albums, McVie would act as keyboardist along with taking on co-lead vocalist duties. Her vocals were often the highlights of this particular era, but it wasn’t until the arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham that McVie’s songwriting began to match her musical talents.”
McVie’s songwriting was firmly established by the time of Penguin. Yes, she was far more successful commercially once LB/SN joined, but it’s hard to argue that “Why,” “Remember Me,” “Bad Loser,” and “Prove Your Love” aren’t as fully realized as any number of her better-known songs.

Penguin is really when McVie hit her stride as a songwriter. That is not to discount some of her pre-Penguin work, as "Show Me a Smile" is sublime and "Spare Me a Little of Your Love" matches the caliber of her hit singles.

Sorry Macfan4life, I’m a tried and true fan of FM’s music and have been for 45 years, and I really dislike Oh Daddy. And I’m pretty sure I’m not alone here. Just different tastes, that’s all.

You are in a club of 2 on this board.
All you chiffon heads think alike
Well, it's good to see that at least two songs are not from Rumours -I'm not counting Say You Love Me as well-. Big applause for Think About Me and Little Lies! :D
I'm here to say I'm the other one on this forum who dislikes Oh Daddy :sorry: I don't hate it, but I simply don't like it as I like others!
And I'm not here to write another list of my fav songs of Christine, but there's lot of works from the past which deserve more credit. Remember Me, Spare Me A Little, Heroes Are Hard To Find, Come A Little Bit Closer!! Please!!! Where is Over My Head, one of her first Top 20 with the band?? Where are Everywhere, Love In Store, Hold Me??

Oh Daddy was always my least favorite song on Rumours until about 15 years ago. It fit the album perfectly but just was my least favorite. I love all of Chris's songs but there is something about her somber songs like Oh Daddy , Over and Over, and Ask Anybody that move me. However its not really Chris's singing or lyrics why I love the song. IMHO the music track IS Fleetwood mac. If you wanted to put a sound in a time capsule and open it 100 years later and play for people to understand the Mac sound, this would be it. I just wish there was an extended version that let Chris play out. Chris's organ through the song is mind blowing. I always loved the 20th anniversary of Rumours dissection of the song. Everything including the lonely castanet haunts me.
I love when Mick says he was not Keith Moon but was getting there

Oh dear, we have a problem here. I will never believe Oh Daddy is THE song that represents Fleetwood Mac. The Chain, I could accept; Don’t Stop, I could accept. Go Your Own Way, I could accept. Landslide, I could accept. Oh Daddy, I cannot accept. I don’t hate it, it’s just very very low on my list. Very low. Christine’s catalogue is full of incredible songs that jump out at me, but Oh Daddy just does not jump out at me. Comparing the song to her other, more somber efforts, like Brown Eyes, Over and Over, Never Make Me Cry, or Warm Ways, Oh Daddy pleases my ear the least.

I’ve heard the same thing about cigarettes and coffee!
As Long As You Follow is a favorite of mine, too. I suppose the reasons I love ALAYF are why I don’t care for Oh Daddy- one song has the beautiful harmonies FM is known for; one song has that incredible guitar wrapped up in the bass and drums; and one song has beautiful lyrics that sound like she’s singing directly to the fans. Not that it’s a deal breaker, but after all these years I really have no idea what Oh Daddy is about, nor do I care. The lyrics don't do anything for me, and I don’t care for the music, either.
But hey, both songs can exist in peace and harmony LOL!

I agree. I started to analyze why OD would represent the Fleetwood Mac sound. I got lost. But in the middle of that, I thought... Oh Daddy fits more into Tusk than Rumours.

We must have different records ;). The Rumours FM sound had the mid 70s sound. Chris's playing is vintage Mac playing. Lindsey has a mystical guitar and he plays off Christine. It is the MAC sound. No way a Tusk track. Its classic Rumours. Fleetwood Mac had a very mystical sound prior to Stevie and Lindsey. That sound showed itself here and there after they joined and this is probably the best example. Mick, John, Chris and Lindsey created the most magical track. When you hear the track, its no guess its Fleetwood Mac. Some are chasing the pop songs of Seven Wonders and cant hear the depth of the music sometimes.

I never noticed the massive amount of reverb on the snare drum for Oh Daddy. Hearing the instrumental track allows you to appreciate some of those nuances.

Exactly. Silver Springs even fits better than Oh Daddy.
And I too(regardless of what Macfan says) don't HATE it...
Do you know why Think About Me is my favorite song? The beat.
Do you know why Oh Daddy is towards the bottom of my list? The beat. It's a f*cking Snoozeville song. Right there with Beautiful Child and Storms. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................

Yes the beat of TAM is amazing. The way the song opens with a drum punch grabs you right away.
Some were listing Mac's biggest hits that describe their sound the best. IMHO if you strip the singing, its Oh Daddy. The track has all the elements. Chris's playing organ is vintage. It could be on Mystery To Me. But the way Lindsey plays with Chris and the way they feed off each other is another brilliant element with the new members to the band. Its also a very classic mid 70s sound. Its one Chris's most creative organ tracks and that says a lot. Its a somber song from Chris which lures me in.
To find the best diamonds you have to dig a little deeper. To find the best gold you have to pan a little more intense. For far too many years I over looked the music of the song. Stevie even said that Oh Daddy is her favorite Chris track (take note bwboy). It makes me put on my Oh Daddy shawl and spin around the room.

Christine actually said something very similar once- “I’ve been searching for a pot of gold like the kind you find at the end of a rainbow.”
I could swear I read in an interview that Stevie thought Danny Kirwan wrote Oh Daddy.

It would be impossible to knock any of these songs off the list, just so many to choose from. That said, the list-maker inaccurately frames the pre- Buckingham Nicks days and leaves off some of her most brilliant work. At the very least, Why and Spare me A Little belong near the top. Christine made her stride much earlier in the band's history than 1975. As Long As You Follow is arguably her very best modern song, which I would group with the Tango Era. As for Rumours though, I think one song of each, but not both, would suffice, so I would keep Oh Daddy and You Make Loving Fun. :)

Yes, you got a faint whiff of what I'm cooking. Exactly right the studio version of Silver Springs has that ultimate Fleetwood Mac sound. I think some were thinking I was saying the "SONG" Oh Daddy encompassed the band. Its not the song, but SOUND. No doubt Silver Springs has that dreamy, mystical sound with Chris and Lindsey playing around each other, Mick playing behind the beat, etc that screams Fleetwood Mac. Both songs are Rumours era cream of the crop.
Its like when the Beatles recorded a song they called their "Fleetwood mac" song. It was the sound that made them say that. There are other songs like Sugar Daddy, Warm Ways, etc that could also fit into this circle, meaning: They have the classic Mac sound with the marriage of Lindsey on guitar making them a bit more whimsical and polished. I know Waddy plays guitar on Sugar Daddy but I think you smell what I'm cooking. The Mac had their peak success in the 70s and after Rumours we only got faint tastes of this sound again since so much changes every band as we all rolled into the 1980s and beyond.

Okay—enough is enough. You don’t have to love or even like Oh Daddy—but it fits beautifully on the record. To suggest that the twee studio version of Silver Springs fits better is madness. Silver Springs became a great song in 1997. It was rightfully an outtake in 1977. Oh Daddy, like it or not, is as iconic as Rhiannon—it has archetypal power, the story of a vulnerable woman forever searching for guidance and affection. It’s a song about loneliness and desperation as much as it is also intimate confession. And the chords! Such a great song!

It's truly a beautiful piece of music. And the transition from OhDaddy to GDW is iconic. When you listen to this album in a side 1/side 2 format. It's nearly perfect. I don’t hate “Oh Daddy,” but it’s hardly one of her seven best songs. I wouldn’t even say it’s one of her ten best songs from the Rumours era. Either “Everywhere” or “Hold Me” should have been on the list at a minimum. Even “Isn’t It Midnight” would have been a better album track for the list.

On more than one occasion, she has definitely said “Oh Daddy” is her favorite. In one interview, she emphatically claims it has always been her favorite.
On a related note, both Christine and Stevie credit Stevie with the line: “and I can’t walk away from you baby if I tried.” Sadly, the line is ungrammatical. Alternatives would be: “and I couldn’t walk away from you, baby if I tried” (which is rhythmically off) or “and I can’t walk away from you, even though I’ve tried” (which is a bit prosy).
If you listen to the Rumours deluxe, an early version of “Oh Daddy” has Christine’s original, less memorable but fully grammatical line. (I can’t recall it in full right now, but it ends with “through the night.”).

Stevie was asked point blank on the MTV show fanatic her favorite Lindsey and Christine songs. She said Oh Daddy because it was so "magical, mystical Tibet kind of thing" I get what she is saying and likes it for the reason that I do....the music. The singing and lyrics are somber and I notice for the most part her somber songs often get left out of consideration because people are so used to her peppy love songs.
Stevie was caught off guard by the question and could not name a favorite Lindsey song and looked confused. The interviewer (fan) then threw her a lifeline and offered maybe Stephanie and then Stevie said that was her favorite Lindsey song

This is cut and pasted from the NicksFix transcribed from the Fanatic episode:
Elena: Um, if you had to pick a favorite song by Christine and one by Lindsey, which ones would you pick and why?
Stevie: Um. Christine. My favorite song of Christine's is a song called "Oh Daddy". That was written about Mick, when he was going through his divorce with his children and everything, and it was very, kind of a sad, sad time, you know. And that song to me is very Chinese-Tibetan... You know. It has all that ah, kind of mystic thing. And I think that the melody is the most beautiful, that she's written. And I also love doing that on stage. Um, for Lindsey, my favorite song...(big sigh) well I'm kinda, I'm gonna have to think about this one for a minute.
Elena: That's O.K. (laughs)

When was this interview?
1998 during the Enchanted tour. The Fanatic interview that was posted online but now only the transcript I could find on the NicksFix. Remember the lesbian who was kicked out of her house and bought Stevie records to survive and Stevie just stared at her like a deer caught in the headlights and never comforted her. She asked a few good questions like what her favorite Chris and Lindsey songs are and what the Mac felt about doing her solo songs in their set.

Stevie: “Um, for Lindsey, my favorite song… (big sigh) I’m gonna have to think about that one for a minute. Oh I know- I’m torn between Come and Not That Funny!”
Just kidding, I know Come was recorded long after 1998.

She loved Not That Funny in concert. She could do a quarter gram and half bottle of tequila backstage before heading back

Her answers are so nonsensical that she could say her fave Lindsey song is the one that says Packing up, shacking up is all you want to do...

Oh Daddy was always my least favorite song on Rumours until about 15 years ago. It fit the album perfectly but just was my least favorite. It fits beautifully on side 2 where it is. Great track.
Chris's organ through the song is mind blowing. It’s the only Christine track I can think of offhand with an acoustic piano, a B3, and an electric part (played I think on a moog). It was quite an inspired but strange idea to use the acoustic piano just for one note, placed for texture and emphasis, like the tolling of a bell.
I guess YMLF also has three prominent keyboard parts: a hammond, a rhodes, and a clavinet. But most of her songs only have one or two prominent instruments.

That’s Stevie’s way of saying that she likes the dorian mode (from D to D on all white notes on the piano), plus all the cool instrumentation, with nice percussion, harmonics on the guitar, and the wandering moog line (similar to Crystal).

I remember Christine saying she was playing a Moog on Crystal and the unit wasn't hers. And the owner was twisting the knobs whilst she played it.

I don’t think it was a moog. I believe she said it was a cathedral organ (I could be wrong) and the man in charge of its maintenance was so in love with it she wouldn’t be surprised if he slept with it. Typical Christine humor. She also said, they recorded her playing hours of music on it and then spliced what they needed from that.

I have always thought it was an organ, and not a synth.

The way my brain is working these days, I honestly would have to go back and read it. I remember the "slept with it" part.
