Thanks for posting this. Hmmm... I have to say, I'm not wildly impressed. It sounds like a generalised orchestral wash has been laid over it. Christine's piano was much more specific and appropriate.

OMG that was dreadful. I already have never cared for that song and now this.

Well, it’s a bit much—the understated piano made fine accompaniment to her plaintive vocal. Here, the strings threaten to overwhelm everything.

This is a mess. :(

The arrangement makes about as much sense as the album cover.

But maybe we are all like that radio announcer who couldn't make sense of GYOW the first time he heard it. Maybe the hidden magic of this arrangement will reveal itself to us in time.

Go with your gut. That arrangement is square peg and round hole. No puns intended. She's gone senile.

Is it too late to cancel my Amazon order  Like her movie soundtrack song she did not include on this album. This is A Fine Mess

I am glad its not just me. It seems the music does not fit with the vocal and almost like they just found a random orchestra track and put her vocal over it. If you took away her singing you would never know it was Songbird. And the orchestra track itself is not that great either.
Oh well. I sill have Buckingham McVie :)

the Willie Nelson version is far better.

It's insulting to the masterpiece that Songbird is.

Now what if they'd done a Songbird/Oh Daddy mashup?

Okay, so here’s as good a place as any to confess that I am obsessed with “Slow Down.” When I first heard it I thought “catchy, decent soundtrack song.” But it has gotten under my skin and I can’t stop playing it. Admitting this is the first step towards recovery.

Oh— and yes, the orchestral “Songbird” needs to crumble and die.

I would love an orchestra version of Oh Daddy as long as the music is the score of Oh Daddy. I am not sure it would great to Beethoven #5

It’s been twelve hours since my last listen…

One time I came home and my wife and kids went into the garage and had to pull me out of the car because I had Slow Down on repeat.
It was just awful. I kept humming it as they put me to bed.

I lost my wife and kids because of my abuse of Slow Down. Now, I'm alone and going thru rehab.

But why???

It reminds me of what Phil Spector did to “The Long and Winding Road.”

It feels like the end of some sci-fi love story where they just saved the world from Armageddon.

You know what song would go great with an orchestra? Why
I think it would be amazing if the music held to the integrity of the original song

If she decided to add some piano and vocals and make it hers. Not just some backing tracks to an original piece. Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" was amazing.

She (Joni) went too far and did a follow up and that was pretty bad IMO. But, at least it was mixed with new vocals and recorded at the same time.

Big mistake. The instrumental sounds like another song. It looks like the opening of a fairy tale class B movie.

I feel that at any moment the characters of A Midsummer Night's Dream will appear.

Even though the orchestral version I heard isn’t great, I’m still buying the album. It’s the only way the record company will see we want more releases from Christine. I want the 1984 album rereleased. I want the concert video rereleased. It’s worth paying $13 in the hope this may lead to something more substantial down the line.

I am with you but don't hold your breath. Before she sold her songs she should have put out a "best of" collection. But thats water under the bridge. I already placed my order and hope it sells well. But of all my Christine McVie CDs, I bet this one gets played the least :(
I will look at the glass half full. Glad something "new" is coming out.
