Amazing article in the LA Times... Lindsey really gets his digs in (Mick is financially unstable, lots of divorces; Chris threw him under the bus because she bought a house; Stevie is lonely and alone and sad) and Stevie and Azoff finally comment... Azoff really smacks Lindsey down saying everything that happened was his own fault and that he is delighted that the band did their highest grossing tour without Lindsey, and says he only continued working with the band at all because he has been 'aligned with Stevie in thought and purpose from the earliest days". Stevie denies having anything whatsoever to do with firing him..his version of events is "revisionist history", she "fired herself" from a "toxic" situation. Being around Lindsey made her feel like a "dying flower". He says she made life choices and is now all alone. He's attempted to text Stevie but she "usually" doesn't respond. His relationship with Mick is mostly via text. His wife lives down the road for now.

Buckle up this is a GREAT article!

Fleetwood Mac fired Lindsey Buckingham. So why won't he let them go?

Los Angeles, CA - August 07: Singer, songwriter and guitarist, Lindsey Bunckingham, known for his partnership with Stevie NIcks and the band Fleetwood Mac, is photographed in his home in the Brentwood neighborhood, of Los Angeles, CA, Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021. Buckingham, who was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, will be coming out with his seventh studio album. (Jay L. Clendenin / Los Angeles Times)

Lindsey Buckingham: "Between the Fleetwood Mac stuff and the heart attack, it's all been humbling." (Jay L. Clendenin/Los Angeles Times)

This is the album that started all the trouble.

"Lindsey Buckingham," the singer-guitarist's seventh solo venture, was finished nearly four years ago. Upon completing the 10-song collection, he asked his bandmates in Fleetwood Mac if they’d be willing to slightly delay an upcoming tour so he could promote his new music. He’d made a similar request back in 2006 and was granted two years to tour behind back-to-back solo efforts. For his new album, he only wanted three months.

But Fleetwood Mac’s 2018 tour dates had already been sketched out. Still, Buckingham says, the majority of the group — drummer Mick Fleetwood, keyboardist-vocalist Christine McVie and bassist John McVie — seemed flexible. Stevie Nicks, the band’s primary lead singer and singular superstar, however, would not budge.

The tension between Buckingham and Nicks, who were an infamously volatile couple during Fleetwood Mac's 1970s peak, only grew from there. In January 2018, when the group walked onstage to receive their MusiCares Person of the Year award, “Rhiannon” — a song written by Nicks — was playing, which Buckingham complained about. Then Nicks, who accepted the prize on behalf of the band, felt that Buckingham was mocking her for her lengthy speech.

"Ironically," Buckingham says, "nothing went down that night that was [as contentious] as the stuff we'd been through for 43 years." But within a week, he was fired from Fleetwood Mac.

It was a seismic shift in Buckingham’s life — one he is still struggling to accept today, at age 71. As it would turn out, it was only the first in a series of upheavals. Following his departure, Buckingham sued Fleetwood Mac for lost wages, including the $12 million to $14 million he claimed he would have made in just two months on that 2018 tour.

After the lawsuit was settled in December of that year, he planned to turn his attention back to releasing his solo music. But a couple of months later, in February 2019, he suffered a heart attack and had to undergo triple bypass surgery. During the process, the insertion of a breathing tube damaged his vocal cords, leaving him questioning whether he’d ever be able to sing again.

He spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic focusing on his recovery. Then in June, his wife of 21 years filed for divorce.

“I’ll tell you what: Between the Fleetwood Mac stuff and the heart attack, it’s all been humbling,” Buckingham says now. “I’ve never suffered from a lack of confidence, and sometimes could get carried away with that in the process of leading the band. But everything has pulled me in a little bit. I’m not as aggressive a person as I was before, which is probably not a bad thing. It made me look around more — and become less self-involved, hopefully.”

And yet despite this assertion, Buckingham is quick to make incendiary comments about his former bandmates and associates. Sitting in the living room of his Brentwood home, he is uninhibited in conversation — his honesty about his circumstances at turns refreshing and disconcerting. While he’d like to be asked back to the band, he’s well aware that it's probably a pipe dream unless Nicks comes around. "I realize I don’t have a lot of control over that — any control over that."

And then there’s his new music, which is finally coming out on Sept. 17, led by the single "Scream." He’s proud of the self-titled album, even though he knows that perhaps “one in 10 who pay attention to Fleetwood Mac will pay attention” to it. But part of the reason he’s so open about his tumultuous past few years, he says, is because he knows that drama helps fans invest in his music.

“That was part of the appeal of ‘Rumours,’” he says, referring to the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album that was created while the band members were in the midst of affairs, addictions and breakups. “I think there’s a little element of that out there right now. It’s sort of humanizing. The fact that I got [this album] out at all finally is sort of a nice thing for people to think, ‘Oh, cool, he’s still doing it.’"

Buckingham has spent the last month rehearsing for a 30-date U.S. tour, which kicked off Tuesday and will stop at downtown’s Theatre at Ace Hotel in December. On this day in August, he says he hasn't played enough guitar yet for his finger calluses to return, though he still has three weeks left of prep time at a warehouse space in Burbank. At night, he returns to the Brentwood mansion that his wife, interior designer Kristen Buckingham, served as the architect on.

She isn’t staying here at the moment — she’s a mile away in a rented home in Mandeville Canyon. Their three children have mostly been crashing here during the pandemic: His 22-year-old son, William Gregory, is in the midst of an online internship at the Wasserman Agency, his 21-year-old daughter, Leelee, and her boyfriend have no air conditioning at their Westwood apartment; and his youngest, 17-year-old Stella, is still in high school.

The COVID-19 shutdown exacerbated Buckingham’s marital issues, he says, and at first his wife told him she just needed a “spatial break.” He was surprised when she filed divorce papers and is still hopeful that they’ll be able to work things out.

Which is, deep down, the same way he feels about Fleetwood Mac.

When Nicks gave the band an ultimatum — it’s either him or me is the way Buckingham says it went down — he was disappointed that no one stood up for him.

“It would be like a scenario where Mick Jagger says, ‘Either Keith [Richards] goes or I go,’” he says. “No, neither one of you can go. But I guess the singer has to stay. The figurehead has to stay.”

Nicks is, undeniably, the star attraction in Fleetwood Mac — and her draw has only increased in recent years as she's cemented herself further in the pop culture firmament. Her witchy style has become a fashion reference for Free People-loving millennials, she occasionally drops in on Harry Styles tours to duet on "Landslide" and, before the Delta variant hit, she was set to headline major festivals like BottleRock Napa Valley and Austin City Limits.

While Fleetwood Mac fans were certainly dismayed when Buckingham was axed — he was replaced for the 2018/2019 tour by Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers — they still showed up in record numbers to fill arenas and sing along to the band's classic songbook, including the Buckingham-penned "Go Your Own Way," "Second Hand News" and "Monday Morning."

Of course, this isn't the first time the band has gone through personnel changes. In 1987, Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac of his own accord for a decade; Christine McVie was gone from 1998 to 2014; Nicks was largely absent in the early '90s. And plenty of Baby Boomer favorites have proved popular without their iconic members: The Eagles minus Glenn Frey, Journey absent Steve Perry, and, coming soon, the Rolling Stones without their late drummer, Charlie Watts.

Buckingham says that when the band and their manager, music mogul Irving Azoff, dismissed him, they were less concerned with Fleetwood Mac's legacy, or with its fans, than they were with appeasing Nicks and continuing to cash the million-dollar-plus paychecks from a single arena or stadium gig.

Mick Fleetwood has "never quite gotten to the point where he's financially stable all the time," Buckingham says of the band's namesake. "He’s been married and divorced many times. He's just not smart with his money.”

The same theory applies to Christine McVie, whom Buckingham says sent him an email after his firing that read: “I’m really sorry that I didn’t stand up for you, but I just bought a house.” (Both she and Fleetwood declined to comment for this article.)

In negotiations with the group, Buckingham posits, Azoff "threw me under the bus."

“Irving doesn’t need the money, but he’s still driven by the money," says the guitarist, who also used to be managed by Azoff as a solo act.

“I have historically declined comment on artists, but in the case of Lindsey Buckingham, I will make an exception," Azoff says in a statement to The Times. "While I understand it’s challenging for Lindsey to accept his own role in these matters and far easier to blame a manager, the fact remains that his actions alone are responsible for what transpired.

"Frankly," Azoff continues, "if I can be accused of anything it’s perhaps holding things together longer than I should have. After 2018 when Fleetwood Mac evolved with their new lineup, my continued work with the band was due entirely to the fact I’ve been aligned with Stevie Nicks in thought and purpose from the earliest of days.

"While financial gain was not a motivator for me," Azoff adds in reply to Buckingham's comment, "it was a delightful bonus that the band scored their highest grossing tour ever without Lindsey."

Buckingham's issues with Nicks, meanwhile, center on far more than a paycheck. At the root of it all, he says, is the fact that he and his onetime lover, who joined the band as a couple in 1975, never got closure when their relationship came to its rocky conclusion. (Nicks had a short-lived affair with Fleetwood in 1977.) Because they had to focus on “Rumours,” the exes compartmentalized their emotions and never took the necessary physical space to get over one another.

So when his mind returns to his exit from the band, he comes to the same conclusion: Nicks wanted to “cut herself loose” from having to compete with him onstage after so many years. “I think she saw the possibility of remaking the band more in the Stevie Nicks vein,” he continues. “More mellow and kind of down, giving her more chances to do the kind of talking she does onstage.”

Nicks tells a different story. Through her publicist, she describes Buckingham's recollection of the 2018 events as "revisionist history."

"His version of events is factually inaccurate and while I’ve never spoken publicly on the matter, certainly it feels the time has come to shine a light on the truth," Nicks says. "To be exceedingly clear, I did not have him fired, I did not ask for him to be fired, I did not demand he be fired. Frankly, I fired myself. I proactively removed myself from the band and a situation I considered to be toxic to my wellbeing. I was done. If the band went on without me, so be it.

"And after many lengthy group discussions, Fleetwood Mac, a band whose legacy is rooted in evolution and change, found a new path forward with two hugely talented new members."

Indeed, Nicks has been reluctant to speak about the 2018 split. In an interview with The Times last year, she would only say that it was "a long time coming" and that being around Buckingham made her feel sad — "like a dying flower all the time.”

“That wasn’t caused by me,” Buckingham says, defending himself. “You could do a whole analysis on Stevie at this point in her life and what she’s allowed to happen and what she’s allowed to slip away from her. Her creativity, at least for a while it seemed like she wasn’t in touch with that. Same with the level of energy she once had onstage. I think that was hard for her, seeing me jump around in an age-inappropriate way. Also, she’s lonely. She’s alone. She has the people who work for her, and I'm sure she has friends, but you know.”

When Buckingham is reminded that Nicks has repeatedly asserted she chose to focus on her career over marriage or children, he does not back down. “Well, maybe she never did [want that], but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make her feel alone as a result."

Told of Buckingham's comments, Nicks now reiterates that though she was "thrilled for Lindsey when he had children," she "wasn't interested in making those same life choices."

"Those are my decisions that I get to make for myself. I’m proud of the life choices I’ve made and it seems a shame for him to pass judgment on anyone who makes a choice to live their life on their own terms."

Buckingham hasn’t seen any of the new group’s shows but hears they’re “on the edge of being a cover band” because they’re playing “a range of material lacking a center.” But even when he was in Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham wasn’t always on board with their creative direction.

Following the dazzling success of “Rumours,” Buckingham steered the band in a starkly different sonic direction on 1979’s double album “Tusk.” While "Tusk" is now revered, at the time is was viewed as too esoteric, only selling about a fourth of the albums that “Rumours” did.

“Mick came to me a year later, in the wake of it not being nearly as mega as ‘Rumours,’ and said, ‘Well, we’re not gonna do that again,’” Buckingham recalls. “So maybe I did feel like I had something to prove at that point. I knew I couldn’t give up that part of my palette. The audience that has the ears for your music, they’re gonna find it.”

Cameron Crowe, who began interviewing Buckingham in the '70s for Rolling Stone and since cast him on his Showtime series “Roadies,” is one of those fans.

“Lindsey has been vindicated over time for all the angst that went into ‘Tusk,’” says the filmmaker. “He created something that stands the test of time. When Fleetwood Mac fans talk about their favorite stuff, they almost always go to 'Tusk.'"

Buckingham can still quote a review of his 2006 album “Under the Skin” that described him as a “visionary” — although “nobody knew it.”

“Maybe that’s been a bit of a problem — feeling unseen,” he admits. His highest-charting solo single to date was 1981's "Trouble," which reached No. 9 on Billboard's Hot 100, and he's scored modest solo hits with "Holiday Road" (best known as the theme from "National Lampoon's Vacation") and "Go Insane."

Buckingham plays all the instruments on his new album, which he crafted in a studio at his last Brentwood home — he's since downsized to his current house, further down the same avenue — on a 48-track reel-to-reel, using a razor blade to cut two-track tape.

He’s written two new songs since his heart attack. He says his voice has mostly returned to normal, though he’s had to lower the key of a few songs he’ll be performing on his upcoming tour. Sometimes he gets lightheaded when he stands up too quickly, “but it’s nothing that isn’t manageable.”

He did hear from Nicks after his bypass, and he’s emailed and texted her a few times since, though he says she doesn’t usually respond.

“She’s very guarded and protective of her own world, and I think she sees me as a potential upsetter of that,” he says.

His relationship with Mick Fleetwood is better, though it mostly exists via text message. “He’s talked about getting us back together. But that’s him, and he probably didn’t want to see me go in the first place. I know he didn’t. But there’s a difference between him saying that and Stevie saying that.”

So no, he says, he isn’t hanging his hat on a reunion. Anyway, the fans who still approach him on the street? To them, he’s still a part of Fleetwood Mac, there every time someone plays the band's deathless recordings.

“People don’t talk about my involvement in Fleetwood Mac in the past tense. It may be chronologically in the past, but it’s living now,” he says. “Fleetwood Mac was the big machine. I can still get on with the small machine.”

He says that her creativity was gone “at least for a while”. Does this mean he thinks it came back?

But what he said is spot on. I don’t think she was mad so much about the ISA standing ovation as she was about the fact that he could run around the stage for two hours tirelessly and she couldn’t. She used to have all the energy in the world. Some of that was cocaine and some of it was youth. Now she has creaky joints and that hurts her when she looks at him. And yes she is lonely. That doesn’t mean she wishes she had a passel of kids. But I think she wants something more than she has, even if it’s just very close girlfriends that are not on her payroll.

One of her problems is, I think she’s silly and that’s outgrown its usefulness. I mean, she does not have peers that want to put up with that. I believe others have grown up and she hasn’t. You know, not only can she not sit down and have a heart-to-heart talk about life and the changes in the industry with Nancy Wilson, she can’t even have a heart to talk with Christine McVie, even though they shared a great part of their lives together. She’s an airhead and that was very adorable for a long time, but it’s not any more.

Only herself.

Her saying she didn't fire him, she fired herself, and if they wanted to go on without her so be it totally confirms the "it's me or him" story. Hilarious that she thinks she's denying it but is totally validating it.

It is hilarious that she thinks she can put her little spin on the truth, and that we'll all "just see it her way".

Never for a moment do I think that Lindsey did not contribute to the problems with Stevie, but I think no one had the right to kick him out, given his place in the band. Either they just keep fighting or they stop touring. No middle ground. If Mick Jagger is finally tired of Keith Richards, then the Rolling Stones should be over. At this point, Mick doesn't get to kick Keith out.

yeah, her comment thru her publicist about the band having a tradition of people coming and going....Sure, leaving by their own volition. How many of them were fired?? Bob Weston, and for what? Sleeping with Mick's wife. Not sure a smirk is equivalent. (Was Dave Mason fired...??)

Danny Kirwan was fired. Although he deserved it.

I think the Time band(unfortunately) just never got legs. Mick saw a chance to make The Dance happen, and just ended that version of the band. Just like Tom Petty's Crowded House, the Time band was just a substitute filler band(saying that hurts me, because Bekka is the greatest singer FM ever had).

It’s grim. It seems clear to me that the author of the article kind of thinks Lindsey is a douche. She makes it clear that he says all kinds of unkind stuff and then wonders how he is at the center of so much conflict. And yet he comes off way better than just about anyone else in the article. What a cesspool this band is.

"Frankly, my dears, I fired myself!"

Great to have the three main actors of the firing fiasco (Nicks, Azoff and Lindsey) finally speak their truths at each other in public, even if it took three years.

My favorite quote is from Lindsey:
“I think she saw the possibility of remaking the band more in the Stevie Nicks vein. More mellow and kind of down, giving her more chances to do the kind of talking she does onstage.”

I see that Joni Mitchell will be the 2022 MusiCares person of the year. Mind you don't fire yourself, Joni!

I think Michele’s comment about her not growing up, is spot on.
Everyone else ( in the band) has moved on.
Had spouses, had families and a semblance of a normal life.

But not her.

The interviews are a month old and a lot can change in a month in regards to family situations, but I was surprised to read their children have been living with Lindsey. We do know since the time of this interview, Kristen has been with Lindsey at his rehearsals and LeeLee was with Lindsey for opening night, as he proudly wore his wedding ring. All good news for a family working to keep themselves together.

As for the rest of the article - It's pretty dark. Lindsey to me comes off as arrogant and rude in his comments about Stevie's personal life and life choices. The writer for sure frames them in way to create Stevie as a strong willed woman, who should not have any man criticizing her life choices. I expect that Stevie's and Azoff's media machine allies are going to launch further rebuttals at Lindsey, with a combination dredging up past allegations of poor behavior and diminishing his value and importance to the band.

Stevie's statement about Lindsey not being fired due to her wills and wants is some Class A political double speak and is almost laughable in its transparent obfuscation of the actions she took. Lindsey's version of events and actions around his departure has remained remarkably consistent and they have been generally validated from the others in the band or close to the band.

Lindsey could have left the Mick commends out. Their relationship seems genuinely good. Why bring up the divorces and money troubles? It serves no purpose. Easily could have been left at Mick's financial sustainability has always depended upon an active Fleetwood Mac.

Azoff comes off as the detestable, egotistical douche he has always been. Henley and Frey made him a partner in Eagles, LLC, where as the rest of the band post 1975 were employees and ever since that time he has seen himself as more vital than the creative talent for all his entities, as his line about his mistake was allowing Lindsey to remain in Fleetwood Mac for so long. Really, you allowed the creative musical leader of the most successful incarnation of the band to stay in the band? The depth of the rotten ego of delusional self importance.

Exactly. You don't have to be trained in statement analysis to see what she is saying is the same thing......its me or him.

What a horrible person Irving is for breaking his oath of not speaking about artists to belittle Lindsey for his protection of Stevie. Good grief.

Love that he is honest in hinting his disappointment in Christine for not sticking up for him and Mick really not wanting to see him go.

It really is $tevie Mac. Money over legacy.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

It's amazing that Irving says Stevie's account is accurate but Stevie has not shared what the account is. All Stevie says is that she did not have him fired.

What is Lindsey revising? And how did she fire herself? Does that mean the current band is not Fleetwood Mac?

Irving's not a tough guy. If he were, he'd spill everything. He's on Stevie's leash.

Irving and Stevie must think the public is really dumb.

And Stevie saying it's a shame for him to pass judgment... she said at MusiCares that "I don't have anybody. I feel lonely after shows" What a fool.

It's exactly what most of us thought was happening. $he's a money grubbing star who's truly lost her creativity. And quite frankly, is probably on drugs again. (Or her publicist is).
The rest of the band and Irving weren't about to give up millions of dollars for what they knew would probably be the last major tour for this groug. Legacy be damnnnned!!!
I remember being labeled a bad fan for saying all this, but as Christine would say, "But it's true!!!"

The thing is...while some of Lindsey's comments may appear to be low blows, if we're being really honest about things:

1. Christine has apparently (according to Lindsey) already alluded to the fact that she was purely financially motivated to participate in the 2018 tour and didn't want to rock the boat defending Lindsey.

2. Anyone who googles Mick Fleetwood will be very aware of his financial struggles. I'd venture to say Mick would be the first to admit he doesn't have the best financial track record.

3. The comments about Stevie's choices - well, after all of these years it really makes one wonder where does all the resentment come from at this point in time? They cleared the air in 2012/2013 in which Stevie was very proud to tout the story to the press about her hours-long phone call rant to Lindsey Buckingham, which was well-received by Lindsey.

The rest of the band has been able to move on with the exception of her. I'm sure it causes Lindsey to wonder if it's long-term resentment caused by some core differences between him and Stevie.

4. Stevie has publicly acknowledged many times how he is really credited for making Fleetwood Mac shows a really good rock and roll show. Those comments started in 2003/2004 and continued through at least 2009. She's very aware of what he brings to the table. Again, for Lindsey to wonder if this is where the resentment starts to play a role, he's not making far-fetched suggestions.

5. BOTH Mick and Lindsey pleaded with her to participate in the Buckingham McVie project and she still bowed out. Lack of creativity isn't exactly a far-fetched thing to conclude when wondering why she wouldn't participate. It's a valid question to ask. Not to mention the majority of her rebuttals at the time had nothing to do with Lindsey and everything to do with "albums don't make money" or "I'm busy with my project".

Long story short - although his comments are very sharp-cutting on paper, none of it is untruthful or baseless assumptions.

There's a lot of ugliness behind the curtain and he's not sugar-coating it.

I don’t understand why they are still so money grabbing.
They are all well over retirement age and with the amounts they have earned in their careers should be more than comfortable.
They are (maybe Mick excluded) all rich…

So why bother to tour at all ?

Well in Lindsey’s case he still has an artistic need to fill.
But for Stevie it’s an enormous ego.

I have do doubt that Lindsey can be an Ass, but like he said, there was much more awful stuff over the past 40 some years that he could have been fired for. My theory about his being difficult in the past may have to do with all the drugs and drink. While everyone else wanted to party all night, he actually wanted to work. The music and the making and production of the music was something he was obsessed with. It probably made him look like a mean tyrant to everyone else and yes he did drugs too, but mostly beer and weed. It has had to have been so frustrating to have Christine back and Stevie not want to do a new album. What else could it be but not having new music from her to make. I have really lost my respect for her. I think Lindsey is right that she is jealous and lonely. Some would say he is a misogynist for talking about her lack of husband and children, but she did tell Rolling Stone in '77 that she wanted kids. And he has known and loved her since high school. He really knows her. And know I think we all do too.

Exactly, it's about her EGO. He compares her to Trump and her followers. I think he was saying EGO FOR SURE!!

Well, and because she doesn't have a life. What the hell else is she supposed to do? Sit home and feel sorry for herself? She gets worshiped for a couple of hours, three times a week, and that gets her through the week....I guess.

Man, that Army life is tough.

Sitting in the living room of his Brentwood home, he is uninhibited in conversation — his honesty about his circumstances at turns refreshing and disconcerting. While he’d like to be asked back to the band, he’s well aware that it's probably a pipe dream unless Nicks comes around. "I realize I don’t have a lot of control over that — any control over that..

i had to laugh at this. this interviewer has been very clear on twitter that she's a Nicks fan and will always take her side (maybe she was not happy that is not clear enough in the article?), but even she was surprised how open and honest Lindsey is.

the man has no filter. his publicists (i guess under Azoff thumb at the time) would not let him talk in the past, but in the last 3 years since coming out from under Azoff, he's been his open no filter self. probably too much for his own good, but he really is always talking without any filter, whenever fans are in contact with him.

as far as Azoff, heh - having Azoff talk against you is a badge of honor. he's hated by fans on all social media as is his son who follows in his tracks (Jeff Azoff is managing Harry Styles now and judging by social media fans absolutely hate it what happened to HS since, and despise Jeff Azoff). and really, Azoff should shut up and be happy Lindsey didn't sue his pants of for a breach of contract - he was only LB's manager at the time, not FM's nor SN's, yet he threw his paying clinent under the bus for a bigger paycheck and creating yet another sad chimera band.

as far as "Fleetwood Mac fans" flicking to see fakewood, nope - Stevie Nicks fans, and just general boomer public wanting to see dinosaur bands flocked to fakewood show. Fleetwood Mac actual fans mostly stayed away, disgusted.

She has a point, and I'm not sure what it has to do with Trump. Most of the fans that go ARE Stevie Nicks fans. That's the draw. There's no need to say it over and over again. I think Elle's point is that there becomes of blurred line of what this entity is anymore. I mean I guess you could call it Fleetwood Mac.
Her huge stardom and ego have blurred the lines, in my opinion. Especially, bringing in her own guitarist and controlling the rest of the band. Her comment of NOT BEING THE BOSS is just as laughable as I FIRED MYSELF.

I don't think this is going to get Lindsey and closer to rejoining the band, but I applaud him telling his truth. They really did him wrong back in early 2018, going on CBS and spouting lies. He has no reason to lie, he's gone from the band and has his own solo career. He could have easily said, yea, I'm hard to work with and I give Stevie a hard time, so I should be gone. The truth is hard and ugly. Stevie didn't want to record anymore because she has no new songs. Lindsey even sent her music tracks to put lyrics too and she wouldn't do it. Pride I guess. She wanted the band to behave and play songs she wanted. And It would be hard to see Lindsey still active and mobile on stage when she is not as able to do that anymore. She should have given up the boots long ago and gone with a lower heel and not those awful Frakenbocks. It's all about her image.

I wholeheartedly agree. I didn’t think any of his comments were off-base or even in bad taste. People are just used to reading well-monitored commentary on Nicks. Everyone has been exceedingly kind to her these past 15 or so years. The truth is, she is a cultural force, but a bitter, solipsistic one. The solipsism has always been there. The bitterness has deepened over time. Where she wields her power is by manipulating the greed and shallow ambitions of the British trio. If they had half as much integrity as Lindsey, they would never have gone through with the 2018 tour.

That said, I can totally see Lindsey being an unpleasant, self-righteous, arrogant handful.

So there’s that.

Stevie's statement about Lindsey not being fired due to her wills and wants is some Class A political double speak and is almost laughable in its transparent obfuscation of the actions she took. Stevie didn’t fire Lindsey, she fired herself — and then went on tour with Fleetwood Mac and two Lindsey replacements. ROFLMAO!

Azoff comes off as the detestable, egotistical douche he has always been. At first I thought he was as nutty as Stevie is, but then I realized that he is merely fronting for his client — Stevie. So his m.o. is to say that Lindsey’s version of events is not factual, and a few paragraphs later he admits he is and has always been Stevie’s advocate — hardly the voice of objectivity about the events three years ago. (He also says he was with Stevie from the beginning, but wasn’t she managed by Kaufman and Frontline before Azoff? You could, if you wanted to, take apart each phrase in Azoff’s statement and disprove it with data.)

Also, The Classic was an Azoff project, so surely he wasn't happy that Lindsey was candid about the motivation ($$$$) for that. If Azoff can have a controlling interest in the Eagles and FM, he will be able to stage more oldies festivals for $$$$ with various hired hands to replace dead or difficult band members.

He states (in RS interview I think) that that is what he would do for her in the past implying that some of her songs during FM heyday were actually collaborations with him. I wish he would be more specific. I mean I think we know he totally crafted Rhiannon, Dreams, Silver Springs, etc into the songs we know because her original versions were far less dynamic (for mass market release).

Ok, found it. Here's his quote:
“I sent her some tracks of mine, because back in the prime Fleetwood Mac creative days that was something that fulfilled her. It completed her in a way that I don’t think she has been completed since. She could have availed herself of that, but she didn’t want to.”

Not sure what he means by it "completed her"... it sounds like he means creatively but maybe also personally?? It feels like a possible reference to her work with Dave (and others, but that was her most recent)... where she put her lyrics to musical tracks Dave wrote (even though Dave started with her lyrics and created a track based on that, and then the two of them came back together and she worked on writing the melody for her words to his track). We know that she couldn't work out Soldier's Angel to her satisfaction with Dave and had to call in Lindsey to bail her out. the reality is, she did that a LOT all throughout her solo career, without ever giving him any public (or maybe not even private) credit. Tom Petty mentioned it in an interview, how he would struggle with what to do when trying to produce some of her songs and then Lindsey would come in with something and Tom would go "Oh, of course!" when he heard Lindsey's inputs. He went on to say that Lindsey "really is her best producer". But she's always insisted she got successful totally without his help

So here's the statement Stevie released through her publicist when contacted by Rolling Stone. They have mostly cut-and-pasted her previous statement but with some additional comments:

This seems like a good time to hear from Nicks, who responded with this statement when asked for comment:

“It’s unfortunate that Lindsey has chosen to tell a revisionist history of what transpired in 2018 with Fleetwood Mac,” Nicks wrote to “Rolling Stone.” “His version of events is factually inaccurate, and while I’ve never spoken publicly on the matter, preferring to not air dirty laundry, certainly it feels the time has come to shine a light on the truth. Following an exceedingly difficult time with Lindsey at MusiCares in New York, in 2018, I decided for myself that I was no longer willing to work with him. I could publicly reflect on the many reasons why, and perhaps I will do that someday in a memoir, but suffice it to say we could start in 1968 and work up to 2018 with a litany of very precise reasons why I will not work with him. To be exceedingly clear, I did not have him fired, I did not ask for him to be fired, I did not demand he be fired. Frankly, I fired myself. I proactively removed myself from the band and a situation I considered to be toxic to my well-being. I was done. If the band went on without me, so be it. I have championed independence my whole life, and I believe every human being should have the absolute freedom to set their boundaries of what they can and cannot work with. And after many lengthy group discussions, Fleetwood Mac, a band whose legacy is rooted in evolution and change, found a new path forward with two hugely talented new members.

Further to that, as for a comment on “family” — I was thrilled for Lindsey when he had children, but I wasn’t interested in making those same life choices. Those are my decisions that I get to make for myself. I’m proud of the life choices I’ve made, and it seems a shame for him to pass judgment on anyone who makes a choice to live their life on their own terms, even if it looks differently from what his life choices have been.”

well... in all seriousness, this could put him in an interesting position, if he's working without at PR person.

Stevie clearly is, and she's clearly working with PR people who are of a younger generation, or at least who are aware of the current climate of how one can talk about women and their life choices, especially if one is a white male. I can see all the "right" buzzwords in her statement which has clearly been crafted by someone other than her (e.g., respecting life choices, a woman gets to make her own life choices, it's her right to do so, she took herself out of a toxic situation, not good for her well being, everyone has the right to define the boundaries of what is and isn't healthy for them). He has been rich and famous for such a long time now and he's of a baby boomer generation who don't always realize (like it or not, that's another issue) how things have changed. (As a side note, I recently watched a really good new series on Netflix starring Sandra Oh from Grey's Anatomy/Killing Eve as a professor at an old established university, and one of the characters gets totally blown up (figuratively) in this kind of attempt to express his thoughts to a younger generation..scarily realistic).

Not saying I think this is all ok, just that times have changed. And that she is clearly not above pushing her own very drastically revised version of history with regard to herself and her "feminism". And she's not above pulling in others like Azoff and who knows who else to publicly dump on him and support her. (Her mentioning that she could make a list of things from 1968-2018 and maybe she will some day in a memoir seems like a not-so-veiled threat to me...)

Also in today's world everyone already has picked their side and doesn't listen to facts or anything that contradicts that (hence the politics example, or even the whole Harry/Meghan situation, etc). so anyone in the Stevie tribe won't listen to any of it.

yes to all of this. while i enjoy unfiltered Lindsey, he does need a younger person (other than his kids) to make sure he doesn't dig himself into a hole with his boomer language.

yes, FM fans know she wanted kids she has said so many times, but others do not and he loses people right there. like you said, her publicist-written response has all the right buzz wording for making her look like a strong woman martyr, while making him look like a complete old-fashioned prick. he should stop talking about her recent private life because he is not anymore a part of it.

and she should stop talking about his private life from 50 years ago, when she complained how he went out with Don Everly to make money as a musician and left her poor thing alone in Aspen.

i do love the 1968 thing. makes her look like this petty person living her life holding onto 50 year old grudges and plotting the revenge on the guy she dumped decades ago. not exactly a strong woman living her life to the fullest, no? and makes it clear this him or me had nothing to do with Musicares, she has plotted this from 1968, apparently!

Marketing wise this would be a great time to release it on CD! With all the bickering back and forth it could generate interest, especially in fans who've never heard the Buckingham Nicks album (yes, I know that's a foreign concept to most of us who probably own it in multiple formats!).

Not sure what he means by it "completed her"...

Well, I mean, this is gross but my immediate thought when reading that jumped right to the lyrics of the song Come.

Well, all of this certainly added another chapter of drama to the FM saga.

His comments about her absence of creativity are 100% spot-on. She has been resting on her laurels for decades. Stevie has clearly been building her "icon" status (appearances on popular TV shows and pop stars' albums), and it's largely worked. Younger people just discovering her can delve into her catalogue with no need for new music. I'm also glad he explicitly stated that she was the reason we got the BuckVie album. They should've called it a Mac album, despite her lack of participation. But they're all too chicken****.

He is also accurate about her lack of energy on stage. I've attended a dozen Mac shows starting with the SYW tour, and I'd always hear fans gushing about Stevie pre-concert, but they'd leave the show with effusive praise for Lindsey. This happened every single show.

Lindsey's comments on her personal life, though, do not help his cause. It's tone-deaf in today's climate.

See, I don't believe this.
$tevie wanted to get rid of him, REGARDLESS.

$he just lucked out that Mike was available when her guillotine was ready to drop. It was the perfect storm for her.

I'd counter with Tom was also one of the few people left who would've told her she was a stupid moron and being ridiculous. I think without Tom's death and Mike being available, it wouldn't have happened. More likely that she would have just quit or acted like a giant idiot until someone like Petty would have called her out on it. With Mike being available it allowed her to twist the knife in a much more profound way by not just breaking up the band and going only solo.

Honestly the LB interviews are getting pretty cringey. Sour grapes isn’t a good look for anyone. Maybe to the handful of people who hang around here and despise SN, these interviews come across as being brave and refreshing but to the rest of the world who reads these articles, it just sounds like Linds being a petty bitter ex and Stevie responding pretty maturely after 3 years of him talking sh*t. He’s not helping his case at this point IMO.

I think losing Tom Petty was a big factor here. First, it brought home how short life is and probably made Stevie think about how she wanted to spend the time she has left performing. The fact is that she and Lindsey maybe got along during The Dance but since then it’s been pretty bad between them. And then the BuckVie album seriously pissed her off. So she’s had issues to stew over that would make her want to get rid of Lindsey.

Second, wanting to tour with Mike and give him that opportunity absolutely was a factor. And having a manager who has worked with the Eagles on big money tours after losing original members made it clear that FM could still be profitable without Lindsey.

I think that she might have found a way to push Lindsey out anyway. But losing Tom provided a lot of motivation for it to happen when it did.

I think these interview aren’t a good look for anyone. I don’t think Lindsey can really be worse off though. It’s not like he got great press even when he was fired. But seeing seventy-something millionaires’ petty bickering over 50 year old slights is just gross. Most people probably don’t get beyond the thought that they all suck and should know better. A smaller number than that will support Stevie. An even smaller number will support Lindsey. But most think they’re all ridiculous. Which they are.

I’m not saying it’s lies.

I’m just saying it’s bad optics and may erode the sympathy people may have had for him. While also kind of giving validity to her narrative. If someone’s narrative is that you’re critical and cruel and make them feel terrible, and they wanted to be away from you because it was a toxic environment, then you repeatedly hitting below the belt and insulting their family life/creativity/energy/etc doesn’t help your case. I mean acting toxic and overly critical isn’t exactly the best way to counter your ex calling you toxic and overly critical.

If Tom Petty didn’t die in October 2017, Lindsey would of never been fired from the band. So Stevie wanted her other very good friend Mike Campbell in the band, imo.

I totally agree and nothing will ever change my mind about it. She wanted him in and looked for any stupid reason to oust Lindsey.

Who knows what her basis is for any of it? I certainly don’t. In her interview about it last year, she said he made her feel like “a dying flower all the time” and that it felt like “all the wind had gone out of her sails” when around him. And in today’s statement she said she was leaving a “toxic environment”. So it’s clear her narrative is that he made her miserable in one way or another, whether it be with criticism or cruelty or whatever else. But the narrative is that he was doing something to make her feel terrible and make the environment toxic. I’m not saying that’s the truth at all, just that him hitting below the belt and saying things that he knows would be disrespectful or upsetting to her doesn’t help his case that he *isn’t* toxic and *wasn’t* disrespecting/upsetting her before she refused to work with him.

He did this on purpose, of course, knowing it would rankle her because she detests Trump.

Here's my take.

Stevie HAD a very successful solo career but since 89 not a single platinum album or top 40 single. Sure she had a top 5 and 2 top 10 debuts but like Eddie Trunk once said on his radio show where is it in the charts this week? (This was in reference to artists or promoters etc who like to trumpet the debut chart numbers for x artist no matter how low the sales were.

What many including herself fail to see is that great songwriting only goes so far. Someone has to produce and arrange the music.

She had allot of help over the years with her music from many people. Lindsey, Tom, Keith, Jimmy etc. Without them I don't think her career would have been as successful. They took her poems and made them come alive. She's not a producer or arranger.

Just because she and or FM can sell tickets to mostly nostalgia tours it doesn't make them any better or worse than Lindsey. He wants to create she wants to milk the past. If he is happy and his fans are happy so be it. If the Stevie Fans want to pay big bucks for the sing song golden oldies tours fill your boots.

They may think they haven't harmed the legacy of the band but they did. Because when it is truly over people will remember how it ended on a low note.

I also can't stand Irving. Frey was barely in the ground and he was already thinking of ways to keep the cash cow going. Same with that big package tour with Motley Crue. Vince Neil can't sing anymore but Irving expects people to pay top dollar to watch that **** show? He's the master of the sleazy money grab. Does anyone know if Irving is even correct about this tour being the most successful.

If the last tour was so successful why was the tour manager touting in the press the demand for tour t shirts or why were fans being moved up to fill great seats on the floor.

Brett Tuggle was right when he said if they toured another time the interest wouldn't be there. The new lineup is now old and with nothing forthcoming in terms of new music the interest wouldn't be there I don't think ( at least in the numbers they would want).

I also agree that Stevie has surrounded herself with hangers on who will never tell her the straight truth. If she thinks she can still be singing in her 80's with her current voice she's nuts.

If the band is truly done I'm glad. Let Lindsey spend his final years being creative and let SN rehash the past and play the blame game for whatever she's mad at now or in the future.

The toxic narrative has demonstrated for decades...anyone who saw Say You Will should not be surprised she never wants to record a full album with him again. It was the rest of the band's choice not to get rid of her for not wanting to work with him. I am glad she mentioned that in her quote.

The bottom line is no one who gets kicked out of a band after 40 years is completely innocent. The people who think Lindsey is completely innocent are just as delusional as the people who think Stevie is completely innocent. All five contributed to what happened.

Everything Fakewood Mac has done onstage has been bogus for YEARS. People who think what they see onstage is real are on drugs. Fake, fake, fake. Play your role-- in fact LB used that language on one of the last tours before Chris returned-- he said his wife and family don't get offended by the swooning onstage because they understand it's all an act, like playing a role. The thing I always go back to is Stevie's ridiculous claim that being in Fleetwood Mac was like being in the Army. It really is a laughable comparison especially considering that she chose to stay in the band for as long as she did when Lindsey was part of the band and when he wasn't part of it.

One thing that's come to my mind though is that even though her Army analogy is terrible, what she really means is that being in Fleetwood Mac requires putting in a ton of work especially with Lindsey producing. She's obviously not willing to do that anymore and hasn't seemed to want to do it for the past 30+ years, at least in the band. There's no doubt that Lindsey is demanding and there's probably a part of him to wishes that other members of the band were as dedicated to the craft as he is. Regardless of how she feels, it is undeniable that Lindsey's methods in the studio played a big role in the success of Fleetwood Mac and by extension her. Others have mentioned here how he was able to take middling demo tracks from Stevie and make them into masterpieces.

Of course it's laughable to try to spin this whole thing as Stevie not being in control of Lindsey being in the band. We have proof that Christine, John and Mick were willing to work on an album with Lindsey because they did. If she didn't want to work with Lindsey, fine but she NEVER should have had a say whether or not Lindsey could be in Fleetwood Mac. That should have and has always been up to Mick and John. It would have been dumb had they chose to dump Lindsey regardless of Stevie's input but at least it would have been their decision and not hers.

Stevie can try to convince herself that she's comfortable with the decisions that she's made in her life but I have a hard time buying it. You can go through her catalogue and read in between the lines in regards to the regrets she has not having a family or children of her own. She's blamed the band for that in the past and she probably blames Lindsey for it too but the fact remains it was her choice to lead the life that she's led. She could have walked away at any point, especially when her solo star was at its peak in the early 80s. She didn't and any ill feelings in regards to what she doesn't have can only be directed at herself.

I can't blame Lindsey for wanting to end everything with Fleetwood Mac on a positive note but it just doesn't seem meant to be. His want for that seems to only go one way and there seems to be nothing but doublespeak from the others.

Opinions are fine. But for years this particular board has kissed Lindsey's ass. And yet calls Stevie's fans rabid. That's the double standard I am referring to. Many of the people who claim Stevie fans think she does no wrong clearly do the same thing about Lindsey.

Stevie has a rep as a druggie back in the day, Lindsey has been called an abuser. Unless new facts are brought to light neither should be speculated about. Unless both can freely be speculated about. That was my point about that. If a Stevie fan came here and said he was abusive to his ex-wife, then said it was tongue in cheek, it would not fly.

Totally agree with this Michele. Stevie has been in her own little world for years but her attitude took a turn toward completely insufferable after her Mother passed away. Losing parents can really screw us up even if they were elderly. In Stevie’s case, it seemed like her Mother, and to a lesser extent perhaps, Tom Petty, were some of the few people who didn’t kiss her a$$ and tell her whatever she wanted to hear.

The Say You Will documentary is a good example and subsequent interviews she gave after it.

If you think Lindsey is not toxic, nothing will convince you.
Why are you attacking my intellect? I've been respectful to you.

You're not providing concrete proof of toxicity from recent years, only conjecture.

In Destiny Rules she's the one who made a big stink about getting Chris Lord-Alge and then wound up deciding to use him for only 1 song. Regardless, that was 19 years ago.

Where are the interviews from 2014-now about his wrongdoings? She said she and he both know what daggers to throw at each other to RS in 2015. And complained that he banged on the wall to have some tranquility in his dressing room. Does that make him toxic?

Also, is Stevie's word Bible?

You don't seem like a person who believes in dialogue.

Yes, they’re pretty cringe — entertaining but cringe. Not because of what he’s saying but the fact that he is dwelling on that business at all. He is on tour and a new album is about to get released. He should redirect entirely to those things. The best way to convey his disdain for Stevie or the Mac is to reply to every question about them with supreme detachment. “Stevie? I suppose all is well with her, but you’d need to ask Karen.” “Mick? Oh, he’s enjoying himself, I hear.” “The 2018 tour? I hear it was hugely profitable. Best of luck to the band!”

While I was driving today I was thinking about this thread and something hit me. When Christine sort of apologizes to Lindsey for not sticking up for him and then says "I just bought a house" is about money. I dont know why but when I first read that comment, I took it as she was distracted with the purchase and was not around to stick up for Lindsey. But I think she meant......I just bought a house and need this tour money Lindsey. IMHO, that makes it even worse. Christine has always been good with her money and she should her farmhouse for big bucks. I really don't see how she needed the money because she bought a house. Its so lame it makes the comment worse in my book.

1996 represented a reset wherein no non-Rumours members would ever be part of the group again... until 2018.

The reality of the situation is - yes, Stevie could write a long list of sh*tty Lindsey things AND Lindsey could easily do the same for Stevie confrontations. Boy, wouldn't that be a rolling stone article for the ages.

Toxic behavior can happen from both men and women.

My point being, there's definitely blood on both sets of hands.

Yes. She did mean it was about money. The truth is, I think she probably said other things to Lindsey. I’m not sure that I trust his version of what she said. He can be flip. He may have stripped her words down to the essentials or his interpretation of them. Lindsey is, um, telling the truth but telling it in a way to get a reaction. I am with him, but I am also concerned about media backlash.

I wish I was younger for Lindsey, then I would defend him on social media. As a teenager I would type weekly letters to the soap opera magazines and mail them at the actual post office to praise Jack Wagner or denounce General Hospital because I did not like the way Jack was used. I think Lindsey could use more fan voices on Twitter or Facebook, but I am too tired and I don’t have the energy. Life gets in the way. I want to support him, but I want to lie in bed and watch Hulu more.

Agree. The comments saying everyone but Stevie have moved on are hilarious.

They did long tours after these examples you provided with Lindsey. Christine did an album and a tour with him. Why wasn't he fired from 2004-17?
I believe Stevie said in her statement that she championed independence. Why would she hold hands in TV interview with a sleazebag or go on tour with him?

Totally agree.

I've been concerned about his media strategy as I've commented on different threads. A bit tone-deaf for one. Two, I think he thinks that because of the whole "voyeur" thing as he calls it he has it in his head that that is the game he should have been playing/should play now to get media attention. He says in the Times interview something about recognizing that the personal details between the band members is what got them so much attention and he's using that strategy now for promoting this album. Bad call.

But part of the reason he’s so open about his tumultuous past few years, he says, is because he knows that drama helps fans invest in his music.

Found the quote:
“That was part of the appeal of ‘Rumours,’” he says, referring to the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album that was created while the band members were in the midst of affairs, addictions and breakups. “I think there’s a little element of that out there right now. It’s sort of humanizing. The fact that I got [this album] out at all finally is sort of a nice thing for people to think, ‘Oh, cool, he’s still doing it.’"

No, LB, it's not going to help here. Sure it'll get media attention, but is it good attention? I'm skeptical.

But the closest thing to a shrine I have are my books...I guess I have an Agatha Christie shrine with all of her novels and story collections...while I made the digital transition for music, I am too attached to physical books so only do ebook when I have to.

In the mid 1990's during the endless OJ Simpson televised trial I once called ABC TV in NYC and filled their answering machine with a three minute rant about the trial pre-empting my ABC soaps on a regular basis, because those shows didn't have repeats, and I felt we can watch the news for the OJ updates. I probably made that same phone call 3 different times and felt great satisfaction when I watched the news one evening and the newscaster said fans from all over America were calling ABC in NY & LA complaining about the same thing I was.

He has a chance of creating more tour buzz and digital sales by going low. Is that ethical or respectable? I think we know the answer. But, as far as American popular culture is concerned, those concepts sank like sad little ships some time ago

Plus there's this I wrote in the Lindsey forum:

By making this [Trump] analogy, Lindsey knows the only way back in to Fleetwood Mac is to climb down into the crevasse, take the plunge into potentially self-annihilating territory, to blow everything up and hope doing so allows him space to climb out and pick up the pieces. I think he has a BETTER chance of returning to the fold BECAUSE of the incendiary comments and his rattling Nicks and Azoff. I could be wrong. We'll see.

Meanwhile, John is on his boat or in his home and is sleeping like a baby regardless of how any of this turns out.

I'm in the process of ~most likely~ moving, and I've reached the closet where all that memorabilia lives. I've got folders of every FM article I could ever clip. Posters. A Tusk tour book. I can never throw that sh*t away...

if you ever do sell/get rid of it.....you want a percentage, and I'm the fool paying the dues...

Well this is very revealing and so unlike the way I pictured you but I appreciate your honesty. To me you seemed like a person who is stoic and always keeps her cool and is in total control of her emotions.

I find I have fewer emotions than I did in 1987. I mean, I squealed when Christine joined them onstage in London, but since then things have been quite sedate. The girl is gone.

I think that she might have found a way to push Lindsey out anyway.

Because–particularly after 1996–you needed Mick plus at least two of the Rumours songwriters to viably call it FM, Christine's rejoining gave Stevie the opportunity to push out Lindsey, which she may have wanted to do for some time (perhaps since the making of Say You Will).

She had to wait out Buckingham-McVie and then MusiCares to pull the trigger – at which point she did.

I gave away and sold my stuff years ago. I had these extremely rare Mac and Stevie posters that I found at my parents house and sold them on Ebay just to get rid of them. Practically gave them away. One Stevie poster was so rare I never saw another one like it and was imported from England, a full live photo from the Tusk Tour. Had the original double sided Tusk poster and a 1976 original poster too.

None. I had my shrine when I was an early teen. It was just taking up space and someone else can enjoy them. Funny thing is I threw most of it away but kept the posters because they were so rare.

I had White, Rumours, Tusk, and Bella Donna on 8 track. I truly regret giving them away.

I did find an 8 track Rumours in a thrift shop a couple years ago, and snagged it(and no, I don't have a player for them, I just like that they remind me of junior high school).

back in November 2017 I left ALL the bootlegged F.M. related material (And others...close to about 5000 cd's/dvds) out on a corner next to a collection bin for the "disadvantaged"...and again with no regrets.

When I was moving out of my condo 10 years ago, I threw out all of my albums. I had replaced most of them on CD anyway. The only album that I never replaced on CD was Rock A Little. I did not have a turn table anymore either. The inserts from Rumours and the lyrics on the album sleeves also went in the trash.

I had a great 1987 bootleg that I personally recorded that actually sounded fairly good and I threw it out too since I also no longer had a stereo that played cassettes. It was cool because before the concert began, Stevie yelled: Hello Pittsburgh!

Gosh wouldn't it be fun if we had taken photos of our shrines when we were kids. I was a Fleetwood Mac fan at an odd time right after Mirage because most had considered them jumping the shark after Tusk and then music box Mirage. I found this Fleetwood Mac T shirt at a flea market with an iron on logo (gosh remember iron ons) and had it hanging on my wall. My friends would make fun of me because I cherished the shirt so much that I did not want to wear it for fear the wash would damage the iron on.

I had very unique and rare posters that I also considered throwing away. The only thing that stopped me was someone else out there may enjoy them so I sold them for almost nothing on Ebay.

If it was toxic, why hold hands and hug on stage from 09 on. Did Mick, John, or Christine not notice how toxic Lindsey was?
I think it’s key that Lindsey and Stevie are only toxic with each other. With the rest of the band, they both interact affably enough to stay in a band together. The idea that Lindsey is so toxic that he poisons the entire band is bogus. They are all fine with him. (John learned how to get along with Lindsey and vice versa a long time ago. They haven’t had any issues with each other for forty years.) Stevie, too, interacts with the other three quite affably, all indications say. It’s only that damn mutual relationship between the Americans that upends the whole band’s movement forward. I don’t think Lindsey and Stevie should be in any band together — for the sake of the band. They are mutual irritants, and it’s apparently very long term, and they have long since been irritating us.

I find it very entertaining that Lindsey Buckingham is killing any kind of legacy that he may have by pulling this petty crap three years later on a band that most people don’t really even care about anymore. I know a lot of us do because we have loved them for decades but this is infantile on his part. I am glad Steve and Azoff finally shut him down and spoke out. Anybody who has watched this band since the 70s can tell what kind of person he is. Controlling, egomaniacal, and bitter. He says that she’s alone in this interview. Well guess what loser? You have lost your wife and your kids are probably going with her because you’re an asshole. Just like most of the clueless Lindsey loving members on this board. I know you miss me. Miss $tevie ( yeah that is for the biggest loser of all) will go on and still be popular and productive. All you people are Internet bullies. I would say you probably have about a 10th as much video and interviews as they are are of Lindsey Buckingham pontificating to everyone in the universe. Looking down on others. Using words that he thinks us regular people don’t even know the meaning to. The man is so self-absorbed and controlling. It is his way or the highway and she kicked into the highway. Actually she didn’t kick into the highway. She told the band to make a choice. I guess that choice was made by Mick Fleetwood but it is what it is. she is the draw whether you like it or not. People love her and her music. Lindsey Buckingham can go back to playing his 300 person concerts. I’m not minimizing his contribution to the band in the sound but the man needs a personality makeover.

As I understand it, Lindsey has about 12 fans -- and that's on a good day. Stevie, is loved by millions and is an American icon. Biden would send the forces to rescue her if she was ever kidnapped, just like on that South Park episode. She's just wonderful. Talented, beautiful, patient and long-suffering.

So, because the Stevie fans so far outnumber Lindsey fans, why do Stevie fans care what they say? How can the opinion of 12 bitter Lindsey fans who have been jealous of Stevie since the days of Fritz, ever penetrate the halcyon joy of a Stevie fan's world? I don't understand that.

Also, while I know the Ledge was a place where Stevie fans once had so much fun. They would come here and share so much, after every concert, before every album release. It was so exciting. And now it's gone. But since the love for Stevie has never died, why can't her fans find a new place to be together and share her without the bitter Lindsey fans jumping in? Why haven't they moved their heaven to a new location?

I understand what JohnL means when he says that this place is ruined, but why does that matter, when there are so many other places to revel in being a Stevie fan? It's like the world is his oyster.

Stevie hasn't offered anything in years to be excited about. It's been seven years since she released an album. Show Them the Way was not an exciting song. It was empty. Her guesting on Vanessa Carlton's The One was more exciting. The "24 Karat Gold" Tour really paled in comparison to Enchanted Tour as far as an adventurous setlist.

The 2018-2019 FM Tour did not feature Stevie heavily, which sucked as a Stevie fan. Dreams, Rhiannon, GDW, Gypsy, and Landslide were naptimes.
Had she done Sisters of the Moon, Crystal, I Don't Want to Know, Paper Doll, Sweet Girl, Illume, Angel, and even Stand Back. There would've been high energy in the Stevie and Rumours forums.

She takes her fans for granted, but she's become boring. Who shows up at a Harry Styles album show and sings a ballad from almost 50 years ago? Be creative, don't be a dinosaur!

It’s hard to be a SN when she takes her fans for granted. She keeps rehashing the same old same old. I did like the 24 Karat Gold tour but I do think she could have dropped some songs and added others. To not do a single song from any album released 85-2001 was stupid. Some of the songs she chose to include like Enchanted, If Anyone Falls, etc could have been dropped for something from the albums she ignored.

Show them the way was awful. I tried to like it but it’s a real turkey. The last album was 7 years ago. Quit milking the hits and be creative. I want to support but if it’s just going to be the same old same old.

If she does do an amphitheatre tour next year it will prove she has nothing left to give but nostalgia.

Fleetwood Mac and Stevie(and anyone associated with Irving) are all about the numbers. Playing a few songs that everyone in the venue doesn't know might make casual fans skip a tour....GOTTA SELL DEM SEATS!!!!!!

Face it, Lindsey is the ONLY member of FM with any artistic integrity left. He cares about putting out new music, and challenging the audience. The rest of them are just number pushers.

I can't "love" them if I don't ignore their personal lives in an attempt to simply enjoy the music... a thing which has become harder to do in the last few years. I am still ever so slightly hopeful that they—both parties—will make-up once and for all and bury the past at sea.

I have always been a Fleetwood Mac fan. I can't say I love LB & SN equally because I bought everything she's ever released and only LB's first 2 albums. I've never heard his last 3 albums. Last time I saw him in concert every new song sounded the same. I don't love everything SN sings but I will always buy her releases. I love her voice, even her current voice and I will always long for every live Rhiannon from the Tusk tour. But I care for LB very much as a person and was devastated that she had him fired from my precious Fleetwood Mac.
