View Full Version : Do we think there is even a small possibility of a final tour?

In many recent interviews, Mick and Lindsey have both been hinting at wanting a reunion.

But is that even possible at this point? First of all, there is a pandemic. Secondly, John and Christine are pushing 80. But The Rolling Stones are about to tour again and Mick is 78, Keith is 77, and Charlie is 80. Anyway though, It’s probably easier for John to just fake it on stage, but Christine has to actually sing. She looked great on the last tour, but she did not sound so great. She sounded pretty good in 2017 on her tour with Lindsey. And she sounded really good on the 2014-2015 tour. Third, Lindsey has an upcoming solo tour. Fourth, I’m sure Stevie will want to do at least one more solo tour too if the pandemic ever permits.

Anyway though, In my opinion, and I’m sure everyone will agree: they should not have fired Lindsey, and the 2018-2019 tour should have been their farewell tour.

But if they do happen to reunite with Lindsey, a reunion/farewell tour would surely be their marketing tactic for outrageous ticket prices.

I've said this for YEARS. I think there will be a final farewell tour. It will be short....maybe even shorter than the Mirage tour. It wont happen till maybe next summer at the earliest probably 2023. Stevie will pretend nothing happened.

I sure hope that they're DONE. I'd love to see another BuckVie, but Christine is getting too old to do it.

~I'm not the boss~ $tevie getting Lindsey fired was the end of the Rumours lineup. Those two should NEVER share the same stage again. The old goat ruined the ending of the band of my life. I hope karma gets her, HARD.

You know, they're not the Rolling Stones. They're a vocal band, and it's no secret that their voices are shot. The Eagles at least brought in Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, so at least they have two singers that aren't 100 years old.

They should just call it another lonely day...

I feel like the pandemic may kill any plans along with everything else you mention, notably the physical status of the McVie's.

The Stones are a different breed altogether. A Stones concert is a huge party. It's an event. They perfected the short tour thing that works for them at this age. Two shows per week. Stadiums only. Maybe 2-3 months in total. 14-16 total shows. When is Fleetwood Mac ever going to do something like that? Also, Mick's voice has held up better than any of the Mac 3 (although it's diminished as well at 78). Keith can have nights of disastrous performance, bum notes, a rambling mess of jacked up lyrics on Happy, and it still works. It's just part of what makes them work. The shows are just too different to anything the Mac would ever put on.

Also, despite some of the massive fights Keith and Mick have had, the stunt that Stevie pulled on Lindsey would never happen. Mick going on tour in 1988 and not even generating enough interest to tour the States pretty much guaranteed that he knew, despite being the face and voice of the band, he needed to tour as the Rolling Stones and with Keith if he planned to tap into the booming boomer market of classic rock tours.

Even if we don't lockdown again, it looks like Covid may be killing concerts again? Another year or two, and they'll definitely be done.

CAN FM sell out stadiums? I don't think they can. But they should be down with doing two shows a week, and taking what dough they can rake in(like they need it - and I'm not talking about idiot Mick).

I don't think FM can sell out stadiums. Not on their own anyway. Partnered with Eagles, maybe?

Mick needs the revenue from 8 nights a week - he has so little and spends so much.

I'm positive FM would have to be the opener for the Eagles. Would they eat that humble pie?

HOW can Mick be so stupid? I mean, his pic must be in the dictionary under 'idiot'. The concept of "living within your means" doesn't exist in Mick's world.

That would be humble pie indeed if they had to open for the Eagles .The intact classic lineup of Fleetwood Mac opening for a cobbled together line up of their long ago rivals. I don't believe that it or any other tour of the Rumours five will happen however and that is for the best.

I don’t want them to tour, again..they are too old and don’t need to.
But 3 mega concerts, in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles could help Micks purse and give artistic closure for the others.

It would be filmed and make more money, and hopefully shut Mick up.
For good.

I could see some scenario to make it an easy tour for these golden oldies. Maybe playing only a few shows but maybe a Las Vegas stint (2 weeks of shows) and a few other major city shows spaced further apart than normal. It also will be filmed and distributed for maximum profit. Farewell tour 2 aka Mick's retirement fund.

Yes, I could see something like this. And with just three cities, I think they COULD sell out stadiums.

Or maybe a TV special a la The Dance? That would allow for Covid protocols to be followed more easily, give Lindsey the control he likes (overdubs and pre-records) and limit Stevie's need to be on stage with him.

Sounds like he is recovering from whatever it was well enough but not enough to be cleared to tour. And at 80, with Covid out there, that makes sense. Just really glad to hear he is in good spirits and seemingly on the mend!

As for their tour, it almost sounds like he might even be able to join them at some point toward the end. I would be shocked if they don’t do something next year - 2022 will align with their 60th anniversary and Mick and Keith are going to want to recognize that somehow and make some coin off of it.

I agree. Even if it wasn’t portrayed as an opening act — they’d play first and it would technically come off that way. And that would be embarrassing. And I mean would they do something together? Some horrible mix of The Chain and Hotel California? I love both bands but just kill me if this nightmare ever even came close to truth.

Stevie having at least four of her men on stage at once. Good lord..

yes, if they were to do it, the only really functional way for them is a few big shows or just one mega show like Glastonbury. But if I recall they wanted ridiculously large money for that in the past and the festival said nah, thanks.

"Is there even a small possibility?"

Does Stormy Stevie have a tendency to talk too much?
Does Manalishi Mick have a permanent hole in his wallet?
Does Lawsuit Lindsey have a yearning to salvage the band's narrative?
Are "Over Our Hill" John and Christine in their element on stage right regardless of the other members' antics?
Are "absolutely permanent members" Neil Finn and Mike Campbell dreaming it's over?

Yes, there is a small possibility of a final public reunion of some description.

But should there be one?

About health conditions, they could do show a la "The Dance", or "One Night Only", or a short tour in specific cities, it would be low risk for them.

But it's too late. The magic is not there any more, the bag is full of rocks again, and the voices are gone. I wouldn't pay an expensive ticket to watch them, I think I wouldn't go even if I win a free ticket. I don't want to hear those embarrasing voices, and if there are again those "silver springs" looks between S&L, that would be ridiculous and more embarrasing.

Does Stormy Stevie have a tendency to talk too much? I was listening to my tape of the LA Forum (10/02/83) the other day, and I heard a couple of things I had forgotten about. It was an extremely Stevie-chatty show anyway, much more so even than usual. But during one of her overtalky moments, Lori said, “All right — shut up!” Stevie laughed. Then, right before “Gypsy,” Stevie was going on and on, and someone in the first row must have said, “Give me a break,” because Stevie got a little miffed and said, “Give you a break? If you would like to come up here, I’ll give you a break.”

Yes, there is a small possibility of a final public reunion of some description.

But should there be one?I of course do not think there should be another concert, except to make happy all the mobs of people who seem to want one. I think there should be a creative project of some sort that involves some thinking. Why not, for example, have Fleetwood Mac record and produce the Rhiannon project? They could do it in suite form, like an old prog album, with instrumental patches. Thinking out loud here.

The ideal capstone to their career as a band would be another album, preferably a double with an eclectic blend of stuff both new and from vaults. A tour at this stage is pathetic. But of course all chances of albums were wiped away years ago.

I don't think a tour, or even a small number of megaconcerts, is going to happen. But I would like to see a TV special, one final concert to put an exclamation point on all these years. I'd love to see them broadcast a show live, and then release it on DVD or whatever media are used for this sort of thing these days.

A tour at this stage is pathetic. All the tours since the 2003 tour (I’ve literally lost count) have been of a type, and another tour of the big venues would be a duplicate of a type, a replica of an iteration of a pattern of an imitation.
But of course all chances of albums were wiped away years ago.I guess the group just doesn’t have any interest at all in recording collectively under the Fleetwood Mac moniker. Of course the bummer is that the only vitality they have left as a band is in recording (which is not true of Stevie or Lindsey individually—both still give interesting concerts).

They should have called touring quits after the 2014-2015 reunion, when they all still sounded respectable and happy.

Given Lindsey's reported reaction to the use of Rhiannon for their MusiCares walk-on and the ignominy that ensued, this could either be the most unlikely possibility of all or just the very thing to heal the wounds and get Her to dance.

Perhaps a Broadway show. "Triad: a Fleetwood Mac Musical with birds!"

She says she's boss in her solo tours but it's really Waddy. Yes she chooses the songs (Waddy also gets to offer songs) but Waddy's doing the live arrangements.

I'd say for the 2018 tour, Mike was the musical director. It's funny because the Lindsey songs including World Turning had the same arrangements like Lindsey did for the live shows (Mick with the rolling drums to start SHN, The guitar countoff for GYOW and Neil on the drumriser, Counting off for Monday Morning and World Turning)

As for Stevie agreeing to Lindsey returning, I don't think she cares about legacy. Because if you cared about the legacy of your band, you certainly wouldn't be performing two songs from Neil Finn that have nothing to do with your band's history unless you were doing it as a tribute to deceased. I let the Petty tribute fly but the song choice was really uninspired. Even Mike doesn't care for Free Fallin live (see his interview on the 2013 Heartbreaker Tour: "We're free from Free Fallin)

And they also should've wiped Lindsey's songs from the 2018 setlist. Sara, Over my Head, Sisters of the Moon, Crystal, Love in Store, and Angel could've been performed over some of the bland songs they did on the 2018 tour.

If she cared about FM's legacy, there would've been an FM album released in the years between 2004 and 2021.

I agree. When FM didn't have Lindsey and then lost Christine and Stevie Nicks they still relied on the tried and true and did no songs from pre 75 that were not Peter Green songs. With the amount of cover songs they have done on the tours where a key member was missing vs their own material one has to shake their head in disgust.

It's a little late to pretend to care about Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan etc when for over 40 years you've ignored their contributions in the live shows.

The Tom Petty tribute was a very tacky thing to do considering he had nothing to do with FM. If you really cared you would have paid tribute to your previous members especially the ones who have passed on. They deserved a video tribute more than Tom did.

Exactly. I mentioned this and so did others when their tour started. No dedication or acknowledgment of key former members while they dug up their songs to perform. Yet Tom Petty gets a giant tribute. Tell me its not Stevie Mac.

Given the heart surgery, the divorce, the public shaming (does she have shame?), and the money … I’d say it’s 50/50 we get a farewell tour with the five — all contingent on Stevie

I think that it's more likely that we'd get a The Dance 2, one final show with an accompanying album.

Although it would be scrubbed and dubbed beyond recognition, nobody needs a Dance II special. It would be such a big effort and it would be a giant repeat of what they've already done before.

The only really interesting and fun thing that should be/could be done is a second Buckingham McVie project. My optimism about that happening is increasingly fading by the day. I don't get the impression a whole lot of fences have been mended between those two, especially given that latest comment that Lindsey threw back at her "Sorry, I didn't defend you...I just bought a house"

I would like to see a TV special, one final concert to put an exclamation point on all these years. I'd love to see them broadcast a show live, and then release it on DVD or whatever media are used for this sort of thing these days.

never happen....even in their heyday, when everyone's voice was still mostly intact, anything recorded live was seriously sweetened in the studio with a million overdubs or straight-up re-records. Live, in the moment, broadcast now?? Not a chance.

Oh, I know. I realize that. I don't expect them to do a final live show, it's just what I'd like to see. I'm in the camp that thinks they started getting less interesting in a live setting when they added the extra musicians and vocalists. I loved them in the 1970s when a live show was just the five of them with an extra guitarist on a song or two.

If the reunion does happen, and I hope that it doesn't, expect a very heavily augmented show with a huge backing band and pre-records. They should've gone out on a high note back in 14-15 and a guy can dream, make Buck McVie the swan song album. Now, it's just a desperate cash grab, nothing at all about legacy, that ship has sailed. I'll refrain from commenting on the more obvious problem of old age. :xoxo:

The vitriol between the S and L camps since the unilateral decoupling of 2018 has me picturing not a crowd of serenely adoring FM fans in the front rows but two viciously opposed gangs waving placards and casting aspersions on each other or at the performer they dislike. Perhaps the final tour should be held in a Thunderdome-themed stadium, with bloodlusting disenfranchised fans clawing and hollering while Stevie and Lindsey battle it out with each other gladiator-style, tambo to Turner.

As for "closure" for the band generally, Mick knows no such thing. He will always be working the press, drumming up publicity for the next FM or quasi-FM thing. At this point he is probably wishing Stevie would just fall off the wall of her castle turret so he can bring in a replacement willing to go on the road and sing her songs.

Well, most folks who love Lindsey and hate Stevie (at least on this message board) have already sworn they won’t go to another Fleetwood Mac tour anyway, even if Lindsey does rejoin, so there won’t be any problem with protests. Plus, of the clips I’ve seen on YouTube and the show I saw in person, there were no protests of any kind when Neil and Mike came on stage- the show ran smoothly and went over incredibly well. The idea that anyone cares enough about the inner workings of a band that they would engage in any sort of juvenile behavior is comical though, but not representative of the real world, of which this latest development in FM is just another ho hum event.

it would be typical Fleetwood Mac to reunite for the ending. We lived with a lot of turmoil throughout. We were just happy to get a new album after Rumours because it was so bad, they could have ended it then. I would love it. I think they would go out with packed stadiums and with a bang. I would like some diversity in the set lists. Stevie canceled here shows this year. It could leave room for her and LB to reconnect. That makes me nervous because you never hear LB say he is partly at fault. And I think that could be a road block if he does not see his part in it. But I would love it and remain optimistic.

One of the Stevie worshippers posted this on Facebook I still think Lindsey is #1 grade ahole! The only thing I would like is one final blow out show. Bring back everyone for a four hour show. He imo has an ego that has brought so much unneeded drama. It does take two to tangle but I have no interest in seeing him with the band. There is something to be said in appreciating those who appreciate you.

So I responded with the following

With all due respect Stevie isn't a saint and I wish people would stop making Lindsey out to be the main reason behind all the drama in Fleetwood Mac. He isn't perfect and he certainly has said and done some things I don't like but so have the others in Fleetwood Mac.

People were ready to tar and feather him when Stevie said he wanted to delay the 2018 tour for 2 years but where was their anger when she forced the cancellation of the 2012 tour and also the new album the other 4 had been working on? Lindsey has more than once put the needs of the band ahead of his own solo work and delivered the goods.

When has anyone else dropped a solo project and worked with the band in creating a new album. What was the point of the 2018 tour? Another expensive Greatest hits jaunt.

As a long time fan it is sad that since 1997 we have only 1 studio album. This current lineup has produced nothing. Every other lineup has given us at least 1 album.

I think Mick is kicking himself for Lindsey being fired because it cost him the potential for a farewell tour that would have made him big money. I personally want them to retire as the voices are not good and at the prices they would charge for another tour with or without Lindsey I am not interested. I would rather the memories of how they were and not how they are now.

Sadly, I think the closest that could be hoped for in terms of farewell tour is Christine appearing as a one off guest at a couple of Lindsey’s tour shows. She recently appeared on stage for the Peter Green tribute show with Mick.

If we got really, really lucky, and Stevie had moved on enough, then she and Lindsey might guest at each other’s solo shows. That said, a pig flew past my window today.

If we get insanely lucky, then there will be a very short Fleetwood Mac Farewell Tour with floor seats $400 (Australian dollars) a pop.

But that might not be insanely lucky.

Think about it, anyone who got to see the full Rumours band even once in 2014 or 2015 is already insanely lucky.

And although not to many Ledgies’ taste, the 2018-2019 was most definitely a one off event. As was the BuckVie tour, most likely, and if you didn’t live in America you probably didn’t see any shows of that lineup.

I don't see a reunion tour anytime soon. Stevie just cancelled her 2021 gigs. She is supposedly working with a producer and also working on the Rhiannon project. I see the next couple of years tied up in solo work. She seems worried that these are her last "youthful" years. Lindsey is starting his solo tour and it could extend for quite a while if we can get rid of Covid.

I'm not sure how Christine and John feel about another tour. A big sign off show on cable would be nice. Or just an album, with no tour. But I don't see Stevie ever going into the studio with FM again. This is such a shame. Lindsey was right when he said with the finish line in sight, this is not good for the Legacy of the band. They went out with a bang, and then a whimper when they fired Lindsey and then had Neil Finn and Mike Campbell on the tour. Thanks Stevie, and the rest of the cowardly Mac.

I'm 99.9% positive there will not be a new album that involves Stevie. It didn't happen before the events of 2018, it sure as heck isn't going to happen now. We all say "never say never" when it comes to Fleetwood Mac related events, but I think the ship has truly sailed once and for all.

Although it's hilarious to see Lindsey throwing the ball back in Stevie's court and basically one-upping her with a certain level of generosity and forgiveness that he knows will most likely never be reciprocated - I wish they would just move on. Mick, Christine, and Lindsey can make more music together and leave Stevie out of the equation altogether. They've already wasted so much damn time trying to convince her to participate in projects, quit trying so hard. But the money talks, right?

On a personal level, the rest of the band could heal and it could heal without Stevie. I get the impression that it's been 45 years and there is nothing that will make Stevie happy regarding the dynamics of her and Lindsey in a band together. If it hasn't happened already, I don't expect it to happen now.

If there is a single ounce of sincerity behind any notion of reconnecting, it will happen amongst the 3, maybe 4 of them. Otherwise, Mick and Christine are truly full of sh*t and are only looking out for a "reunion" payday.

At this endgame stage, I have come to really appreciate the comedic potential of the band. To that end, more than anything, I’d love to see Fleetwood Mac conquer reality TV. Imagine all five of them in a beach house in Miami for a few months with cameras everywhere. At various times, individuals bring their exes over for a visit and the fur flies. Jimmy Iovine, Sara Fleetwood, Eddy Quintela, Carol Harris, and others could pop over for drinks and Pictionary or Twister. Speaking of drinks, every evening (around 2:00), all five of the band would doll themselves up, pile in to the shuttle, and head out for a local bar or dive, where they would drink excessive amounts of tequila, dance with strangers, and so on, until one of them staggers out into the parking lot to throw up. Then back in the shuttle and home, where they fall unconscious into a roommate’s bed. These episodes would write themselves with such a gifted group of people.

If Danny were alive, he'd have felt a dark presence in the force when you wrote this. I just saw LB in concert this week, and while his solo work is not always as accessible lyrically, I have to say that the last 15 years of output has been more often great than not. Seeing him and his band really playing with so much passion and vitality is worth him not being in FM anymore. I would just as soon they never reunite.

I think it's never say never, in that for some ungodly sum of money, maybe it would happen, but I think it most likely won't. Stevie is still super pissed and holds the strings as far as FM touring as a big moneymaker. Maybe if one of them dies, the others will do something together, but that's the best we can hope for. I'm guessing No. If you want a Rumours lineup Farewell Tour, tap into your fond memories of 2015 because That Was It.

Christine is 78. That's verging on elderly. And her vocals were noticeably subpar on the footage I peeked at for the 2018 "FleetMac Karaoke" tour.

John is 75 and not in good health. And it's been said he doesn't want to.

Mick is 75 and not sure he's really up to it either, though he's the only one who truly seems to want to do it.

Lindsey is currently still fired and (understandably) bitter about it. Plus health issues and his voice is weakened.

Stevie, it couldn't be clearer to me, wants to spend her remaining performing years being Capital-S Stevie doing her solo thing, and doing it entirely on her terms. She didn't seem to enjoy the band's lame 2018 tour and new lineup that much, even though she's the one who set that particular outcome in motion. Everything she's said/posted online in 2020-2021 about wanting to perform again and feeling like there's precious little time left... has (to me) the flavor of wanting to do it all her way and only her way. Solo. And to her credit, she's done a good job maintaining her health and her singing voice (such as it is).. it's basically unchanged since Say You Will, and you're either a fan of Older Stevie's vocals or you're not.

So that's far short of a situation in which all five of them actually even want to do it.

And even if they all did want to, age is cruel. The health issues, and the ability to play well for hours or to still sound good singing. 70 may be the new 60, but 80 is still damn old. And they are headed in that direction, Christine first, the rest to follow soon after. Almost no musical artist can do a tour at age 80 and do it well. There's a reason our national retirement age is 65.

So, No. I deeply doubt it can happen. If there is a farewell *concert* -- a single event -- with the five of them, we'll be lucky.

She was Queen Bee on that tour, surrounded by love and fawning respect. Which makes me wonder just where her classic performances are from that tour. Did she galvanize us with anything? Her solo tour with Chrissie Hynde was filled with all sorts of memorable moments, but where are those memorable moments from Stevie on this last Mac tour? You must be right: she wasn’t ecstatic about touring with Mac, with or without her arch enemy.

Her solo tour with Chrissie Hynde was filled with all sorts of memorable moments, but where are those memorable moments from Stevie on this last Mac tour? You must be right: she wasn’t ecstatic about touring with Mac, with or without her arch enemy.

What's interesting about the Chrissie Hynde moments, she had them scrubbed from the DVD concert release!
