Lucky Linds got that payout from FM when he got fired, while Kristen was ranting about the unfairness of it all on social media. She gets a chunk of it now I bet.

Not luck, Entitled.

They chose to pay it instead of letting it go to trial.

If it's true then I feel for him very deeply - he's had a rotten few years as it is.

Maybe she just got drained from supporting him through it all and felt her own needs (and I don't mean anything smutty there) weren't being met.

All I know is I've got two funerals potentially to go to in the coming fortnight and don't really need any drama from Mac members past or present right now.

If he goes back to the Mac, can we get Rumours II: "I Was Not In Any Kind Of A Shacking Up Mood" Boogaloo coming soon?

In all seriousness, this sucks. Hoping the best for both of them.

Messner’s divorce petition surfaced the same day Buckingham announced the release of the first single off his upcoming self-titled album.

Titled “I Don’t Mind,” the single is the first taste of new music he described as something “I’ve been intending to get out for a couple of years now, but on more than one occasion, unforeseen circumstances necessitated a postponement of plans.”

too much time together during Covid? A lot of relationships fell apart because of it, including a number of celebs.

The timing of the filing... coinciding with the first single release.... generate even more coverage, or have things gotten nasty and trying to overshadow the new music with bad publicity??

It kind of seemed she had moved more into her own world with the equestrian stuff... and her interior design business seems to have slowed way down in recent years. Grow apart, but hang on til the kids are on their own??

They sold their big family house and bought one just a few doors down, tore it down and built a whole new crazy expensive one on the lot. It felt at the time like they were downsizing as the kids were reaching adulthood and building a potential retirement home in LA. Didn't they also buy a getaway place out on a golf course somewhere??

Makes me sad to think of him alone in his elder years. Who knows, maybe there'll be some new young babe to push his wheel chair.....

Still...sad news.

Anywhere to hear the new song??

ETA: I think all her horse stuff was in Santa Rosa....so, interesting song title...

Interesting, given the stated theme of the album, that it was the album he was wanting to put out and tour during the whole firing debacle. That was 2018, so.....maybe they've been rocky for a while...

Doubt it. She filed on June 2nd, it’s just a coincidence that today happened to be when TMZ spotted the filing. I doubt there was any intentional push to have the two things announced on the same day.
Additionally, I’d assume they’ve been separated for a bit first. Generally you don’t rush to the courthouse for divorce filings immediately after a fight. I’d imagine there was a trial separation or something first and they’ve been broken up for longer than we know.

My comment about the timing was a bit sarcastic.
But I totally agree about this likely having been going on for quite some time. I did post in one of these LB threads a link to the 2018 Rolling Stone article he and Kristen did after the firing in which he mentions that the solo album he wanted to put out and tour behind at that time was this album, and his description of the songs is that they are about the difficulties that come in long-term relationships, so clearly they were working on things back then.

This may be kind of rude to speculate about but I can’t help but think about how Kristen picked a very good time to file if we think about it financially. He’s not getting any of the usual big FM touring checks he used to get every few years - and he just got the settlement and the catalogue sale $$. This is probably the peak of his wealth since he has this stockpile now and there aren’t a ton of big money making opportunities in the future. Not sure what kinda prenup he may have had in place, but if it’s based on the net worth at time of separation then Kristen left at the absolute perfect time for monetary gain.

This is a bit surprising, but with his firing from FM, the heart surgery, and Covid, they've certainly had their share of stressors. I attribute Lindsey's burst of creativity in the aughts at least partially to Kristen. Some of my favorite LB songs are from that era. I wish them both well.

I am reminded of one of Ben Affleck’s acceptance speeches. He talked about how marriage is such hard work but there was no one he would rather do it with than Jennifer. People made fun of the speech at the time and predicted the end of his marriage, but there should be no shame in admitting that a relationship is hard and takes continued effort. That doesn’t mean that the relationship is doomed. Although I suppose in Ben and Jennifer’s case it did. And in Lindsey’s case, the struggle did not end successfully either.

I just hope he remains close to his children. He needs that. Sometimes kids take sides. I am glad that Stella is 17 and will be in college soon. They had their dad (when he wasn’t on the road or in the studio) for their whole childhoods.

While I can't imagine Kristen was happy about Lindsey reconnecting with anyone in FM, I doubt that would be enough to trigger a divorce. Likely it's just the usual stuff that happens when marriages don't work out.

And yes, please no fake love or real love with Stevie.

Yeah, I think if the two things (him reconnecting with Mick and his divorce) are related at all, it might be more the other way around-- that is, his marriage was faltering, and maybe they'd already decided to split and were just working it out behind the scenes before any public revelation was made, maybe they were in fact already living apart... and with his kids grown and doing their own stuff, and his wife doing her own stuff, he felt more of the effects of the loss of the band and reached out to Mick to explore future work projects...

This is pretty sad, especially in light of her considerable public support of him when he was fired, but no one is too old to divorce. Regardless of their age gap, they’re both entitled to happiness on their own terms. Hope this split isn’t too hard on the kids.

But it does happen. And not necessarily alone (though probably in this case they will). Mario Vargas Llosa, (Nobel Prize in Literature 2010), got divorced in 2015, almost at 80 yo. He finished his 50 years marriage for Isabel Preysler (Julio Iglesias ex wife).

When I read that, I remember a popular expression: Smallpox at old age!!!

Maybe he wanted her to have dinner with him with Mick as part of the 'reconnecting' and she couldn't bring herself to swallow that much sh&t.

Somebdy made a fake document. That is not the format of a CA family court filing. The false flag maker / fake creator got their wish. Create a fallacy and then get the gullible and / or news desperate to fill a narrative, to reproduce and spread in other forums.

I have no idea why Lindsey and Kristen are divorcing. I do know divorce is genteelly awful for all impacted, from the spouses. to the three children, including a minor, and the extended family and friends.

I have avoided commenting on this thread, as it's is not my place to speculate about the reasons for marital dissolution, but this spreading of an obviously false document compelled me to write.

michelej1
06-15-2021, 08:03 PM
What has been posted is the type of information you would find on the court's website. That is the correct format for that, for the most part. It's not the petition for dissolution. It's just the court case information that you will find on the courthouse website if you put in the CORRECT case number and courthouse. However, the court's website would not list the grounds for divorce.

That case number listed on twitter is not for the Buckingham dissolution either. That case number is for a couple with the surname RIOS.

You can go to the court website and put in case number and courthouse information and find the same:

It was a very sweet announcement. Lindsey just stood there and smiled — or smirked. Stella can go and find it on YouTube, which is a wonderful memento to have of your entrance to the world.

I wonder what Lindsey was doing with his paternity leave? It’s hard to imagine him up at night holding a crying newborn.

You know I would always argue against the forced granny sweater claim by pointing out that Stevie also wore that sweater outside of Fleetwood Mac. When she gets a favorite outfit, like that blouse with the holes in the shoulder, she tends to wear it off stage as well as on stage. Of course her fans explained that even though Lindsey forced her into the sweater she also wore it off stage as well because she didn’t have anything else to wear. What???

When she gets a favorite outfit, like that blouse with the holes in the shoulder, she tends to wear it off stage as well as on stage. Of course her fans explained that even though Lindsey forced her into the sweater she also wore it off stage as well because she didn’t have anything else to wear. What???

she in fact refers to whatever outfit she likes as her "little uniform" that relieves her of the 'stress of figuring out what to wear every night'. So yeah.... no one is telling her what to wear onstage or off. Hell, she tells the story of when she was dating Curry "my boyfriend was our lighting director" and he swore that people could see through her outfit onstage and he didn't like it. She argued back that she was wearing stage underwear, stockings, then her leotard, with skirt(s) over it and then capes etc so she told him, no one can see anything; they may THINK they can but they can't, and you're not the boss of me when I'm onstage so bugger off. I mean, that was back in the 70s even before any of her solo success.... you don't think now that SHE is in her 70s and a LEGEND is going to let anyone, let alone the smirker:eek: tell her what to wear.......:distress:

The cherry on top is that SYW Tour had the most colorful shawls, kimono, gloves, boots et al whereas people make like the only thing she wore was a cardigan. 2018 had nothing like that. Just recycling.

Another one of Stevie's onstage/offstage was the Rock and Roll 05 pants set but no top hat.

She said Lindsey didn’t like her outfits when they first joined Fleetwood Mac either and she didn’t pay any attention to him, then. Why start suddenly obeying him in 2003? I guess she was just trying to keep the peace because …. She didn’t argue with Lindsey at all during the entire SYW process. She just went all Ghandi.

But he’s always been jealous about other people looking at her chest I guess. Except when he was complicit in having her be topless for the BN shoot. I guess he wanted everyone to see those, then.

Looks like some updated documents were released. In them, Kristen cited irreconcilable differences. It notates that they’ve been living apart since at least January ‘21. They agree on split custody of the one minor child, and Kristen is requesting spousal support.

ET and MSN say 6/3 separation, irreconcilable differences. https://www.etonline.com/fleetwood-macs-lindsey-buckinghams-wife-files-for-divorce-after-21-years-of-marriage-167063

Joint legal and physical custody is good. Amicable. Of course, the child is old enough to decide where she wants to be herself, for the most part.

Typically for people seeking a divorce based on irreconcilable differences, one fact that is stated is that you've been living apart for six months, so it's possible and maybe even likely that they've been living apart longer than that.

It seems like they've worked through the big issues, and I'm guessing that for the sake of their kids, they will figure the rest out without too much difficulty. It strikes me as sad to see a family split apart like that, and also for Lindsey to go through another tough transition. But hopefully there are better days ahead.

Even if they did have a prenup it typically would not cover a marriage of this lasting duration. It would encompass the first five or ten years of marriage.

That is so true. Lindsey saw his dad and brother die young because of hereditary heart problems. He had fear his whole life and then it happened and he survived. He could have died or survived and lost his voice. He recovered and having survived does change you. His wife was so loyal to him when he was fired and she came out swinging. She could have just let the endless fighting in the band be like any other day. Yet she made it known how poorly he was treated. It seemed Lindsey took it better than his wife. Lindsey has changed over the years. He never wanted to be part of a big money machine but embraced the big money machine for the last 20 years with the Mac. Remember the Cream magazine interview from 1982 where Lindsey said he saw his future of not touring when he turned 40. He changed and we all change. We owe them the privacy they deserve and I have no interest in what happened. Their marriage lasted many times longer than other rock stars.

I doubt she worked at all the past 2 years, considering her husband won a substantial financial settlement from FM, then he had a serious heart attack, and then of course Covid- no one was hiring an interior decorator during a pandemic. And I bet when Christine got a divorce, she paid her ex spousal support or a big settlement. That’s all part of the gamble when you get married. But I think Lindsey will get by with what he has, just like Christine did.

Though to be fair, raising 3 kids is work...let's face it he was on the road so much of their lives. That said, she referenced in some interview that she 'managed it all' by having an 'amazing staff' so... But THAT said, we've not heard any salacious stories about any of them (which, granted doesn't mean there aren't any) which is a pretty admirable accomplishment raising rich brats in LA. I have nothing against her and I don't know her. I remember Lindsey's concert in LA during his last tour. I didn't even know she was sitting behind me with her kids and friends until I got into my row and there was some security guy looking at me like: "Don't you dare look at her!" just because I was in fact staring and thinking: "Is that Kristen?".

Her expression wasn't much different from security guy. And she also looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. That was my first and only impresssion/memory of her.

After the concert I realized what all those fans who met her during FM's tours meant with their stories.

Needless to say I didn't even look at her once during the whole concert.

michelej1

I never really got much of an impression of her at concerts. Many times she had her friends with her. I don’t remember if I ever noticed whether she was enjoying the show or not.

I remember one concert where the kids had their schoolmates with them. Will and LeeLee had badges and they were taking their friends backstage and Kristin was running around asking the parents if it was ok. I was just thinking that the children were having fun and seemed to have a lot of freedom. Kristin wasn’t trying to rein them in.

Then, she sat in about the third row and she had Stella in her lap and when it was close to the time when the kids were going to be onstage, for “It was You .” Kristen grabbed her kids and ran out of the theater. I remember joking when I wrote my review here that Kristen must’ve decided in the middle of the concert to leave Lindsey and she was making a quick getaway, while he was otherwise occupied.

Maybe he fell in big love with someone else and asked Kristen to hit the holiday road. Or — that could just be how we do it in LA, ya know? That’s the way that love goes. He is too smart to ask for a reconciliation; you can’t go back, and I doubt there will be a you and I part II. But he’s still a loving family man at heart, even if he got it wrong when it came to her needs. Releasing his new solo album is a savvy move because this is the time, and he probably realized, in the wake of the pandemic, you either do or you don’t. The album is shaping up to be a well-rounded collection of insidious pop hooks and distorted vocals that doesn’t make a single dent on the charts. But turn it on anyway! Now is by no means the right place to fade. Just find your new audience underground. (Even though a few of the tracks sound as if they were done in one take, as if he were gonna show you how.)

Fleetwood Mac Singer Lindsey Buckingham Demands Court Shut Down Estranged Wife's Plea For Spousal Support In Divorce

https://radaronline.com/p/fleetwood-mac-lindsey-buckingham-divorce-ex-wife-kristen-messner/
By:Ryan Naumann
Jul. 26 2021, Published 11:21 p.m. ET

Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham is refusing to pay his estranged wife a dime as part of their nasty divorce battle. According to court documents filed in his divorce, the rocker says his ex-Kristen Messner should not receive a dime in support.

Back in June, Buckingham’s wife filed for divorce after 21 years of marriage. The petition was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Messner and Buckingham share 3 children.

Their only minor child is 17-year-old Stella. Due to her age, it was believed child custody and support would not be an issue. In newly filed documents, Buckingham goes hard against his ex-saying despite over two decades of marriage, she doesn’t deserve any spousal support. He also asked the court to award him joint legal and physical custody of their daughter.

He lists the date of separation as June 3, 2021. The date is one day after Messner filed her petition in court. Both listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce.

The singer is asking they both pay their own legal fees. He told the court “all assets, earnings, accumulations, and debts acquired by the parties after the date of marriage and before the date of separation, the exact extent, and nature of which are unknown to the respondent at this time”. It’s unclear if the two signed a prenuptial agreement before getting hitched, which would have laid out who got what in case of a split.

There are tens, if not hundreds, of millions on the line. The two met in the late ‘90s and married in 2000. Days before the divorce was filed, the Rockstar announced he was going on a nationwide tour. The two have yet to reach any sort of settlement in the case and the judge has yet to rule

some of that may be standard lawyer stuff..It isn't unusual when there are no minor children to say the spouse doesn't need spousal support because they are now no longer in a position where they have to stay home and raise the children, ie, so they should be able to go out and work. She has worked, doing all her interior decorating and house flipping and for a while she sold 'original' designs of furniture pieces on several of the higher end online boutique retailers (I always wondered how much she actually sold of those $2,000 ottomans etc).,
SHe's been spending a boatload of money or equestrian stuff too. The youngest daughter Stella is an accomplished horsewoman and she (like a whole lotta celeb daughters, most notably Springsteen's daughter who I think is now an Olympian) competes as a rider. But lawyers often make the person asking for support have the burden of proving why they need to be taken care of rather than getting a job. It could therefore just be an opening gambit. Who knows.

What was rather interesting in the Maron interview was when they talked about kids and he said how fast the time goes by when they grow up, and how your kids go from being these little bundles of unconditional love to going in their room and shutting the door on you. Made me wonder if he just meant teen years and daughters generally or if there is some taking of sides going on amongst the kids about the split.

It’s a community property state, which still would exclude property he had before the marriage and the growth of that property, if he kept it separate from community property. But yes, everything that they accumulated as part of the marriage would be equally divided between them.

so what would be the deal behind asking for spousal support? ongoing guaranteed payments for x amount of time rather than a lump sum???

Were they married outside Calif? Was it in Hawaii? Does that matter or just where they are living now?

It would be their respective states of residency. So it doesn’t matter where they married. But I’m sure you’re familiar with cases where one person moved out of the state so that they could claim they were a resident of another state to help them in their divorce negotiations.

My drummer's wife was set to inherit close to a million, and she divorced him the minute her father's health was failing. "You ain't gettin' half of my money!"

Money's what separates us from the animals...

Yes, you don’t have to split an inheritance. As long as you don’t mingle inherited money with community property, it’s yours. Like, if you get money from your dad, don’t use it to remodel the home you share with your spouse. Keep it separate and your spouse can’t get it, in the event of divorce.

Wow, it's good to know an attorney!

The only way I'm ever getting divorced is if my arms get amputated!

In the podcast, Lindsey did mention they may work things out. Makes me happy to see this. :)

Maybe it was a problem with one of the kids. If both parents aren't on the same page, it can get ugly. Hopefully they work it out.

not to be a total cynic but maybe it came down to a financial agreement-- give me more money for my horses and whatever and I'll withdraw the divorce petition. One never knows..... Her pinging LB and hashtagging 'children are the future' ... who knows

It's been a tumultuous three years for rock hero Lindsey Buckingham.

After his firing from Fleetwood Mac in 2018 and an intense recovery from open-heart surgery the following year, the singer relied on his wife, Kristen Messner, and their three children for support during the shaky time. However, fans of the Mac guitarist were shocked to hear that Messner had filed for divorce from the rocker in June.

Opening up to PEOPLE in this week's issue about his solo music and his future, Buckingham, 71, reveals how the pandemic affected his marriage and why he and Messner, 51, whom he married in 2000, are hoping to mend their relationship and are putting their divorce on hold.

"Relationships in the long term can be challenging, and they have their ups and downs. You've got to take that ride and be willing to take it," Buckingham, who releases his self-titled album on Friday, tells PEOPLE. "I think a lot of relationships were somewhat tested by the lockdown."

In June, interior designer Messner — who shares children William, 2l; LeeLee, 21; and Stella, 17, with the rocker — filed for divorce after 21 years of marriage. Buckingham, however, says the couple have decided to put their divorce filing on pause and work on their relationship.

"Over the last year Kristen felt she needed some time to herself, and I have been completely supportive of that," Buckingham explains. "Before this all went down, I was not aware that many people file for divorce and then choose not to follow through."

"Kristen and I agree that is the best course to follow, focusing instead on working on our relationship," he adds.

As he continues his tour promoting the new record, the guitarist tells PEOPLE that despite writing and recording the album's tracks more than two years ago, the songs — such as "Swan Song," "I Don't Mind," and "Blind Love" — have taken on new meaning for him given the state of his marriage.

"Love with someone is initially built on a set of illusions and probably continues to exist with those illusions to some degree," he says. "I think part of having a long-term relationship is accepting that you're never going to really know everything about another person and that you've got to concentrate on the things that bring you together and that define you as a single entity and try to let go of some of the other things."

"We came out the other end with some stuff to sort out," he adds. "I think that did make the material speak a little louder and more specifically."

Speaking about "I Don't Mind," which features Buckingham's iconic finger-picking sounds and catchy chorus, the rocker says the track is "an analysis of a long-term relationship" and how it can be "joyful, challenging, and sometimes painful all at the same time."

"It's perhaps celebratory of the fact that joy and sorrow must coexist very close to each other," he adds. "And that acceptance of that larger sense of relationship is what can keep it going."

Despite his status as a rockstar, Buckingham maintains that as soon as he enters the doors to his home, the "capital letter Lindsey Buckingham" disappears — especially when he's around his kids.

"They are proud of me and think Dad is pretty cool or whatever, but I don't try to live that," he says. "I can be up on stage doing what I'm doing, but at home, I'm just another schlubby dad like everybody else."

"I've just tried to be a dad who's been supportive and interested in what they're doing. They're all pretty normal kids," he adds of his children. His eyes light up as he speaks of his kids: William just finished an internship with the Wasserman agency and is "quite musically inclined," as he loves to DJ; LeeLee is studying business at the University of Southern California; and his youngest, Stella, loves riding horses and could become an Olympian one day.

"They all seem to be on their own path, and that's the main thing," he says.
