Didn’t Stevie and Lindsey sell their publishing rights or something? Who owns Buckingham Nicks now? Will that album ever get released like on Spotify and iTunes?

This is what Stevie said in October 2020 before she did the $100million:
"I think it should be released. It should just be polished up a little bit. I don’t think it should be remixed. I think it should just go out the way it was mixed when we released it. I hope it happens. Owning ‘Buckingham Nicks’ between me and Lindsey is like owning an old Mercedes. One person says, ‘let’s release it!’ and the other person goes, ‘I don’t wanna let it go.’ And then three years later it’s the other way around. That’s what’s been happening with ‘Buckingham Nicks’ since 1975!”

There will be a whole reconvening of organic money very soon. And, we will finally see this as a deluxe release. It will be profound, circular and bring in a lot of cash.

It will be profound, circular and bring in a lot of cash.I bet it won’t generate much revenue. I bet a lot of people feel the way I do — I don’t care whether they ever release it, on CD, on colored vinyl, on Morse Code, or on the Tablets of Hammurabi. It’s been fifty years and everyone who ever wanted to hear it has heard it and it’s all over YouTube and probably even Pandora and Spotify.

It’s not even really all that good. I guess it’s most impressive for its acoustic guitar work. It’s nice, pleasant chug-a-lug hippie music. But it has this absolutely weird incantatory power over people when they talk about it — the same people who probably haven’t listened to any Buckingham or Nicks solo albums since 1981. Lindsey is wrong when he says that the music on Rumours doesn’t warrant all the hoopla. He should be talking about Buckingham Nicks!

I will make a prediction. Flame me or praise me in a few years if it happens. I do think it will be released and it will be a springboard to bring Lindsey back into the band and Stevie will say all that "water under the bridge" stuff. Mick will love it because it will promote their farewell tour even more. He may even get 4 more meet and greets per show out of this one. The band and Buckingham Nicks will then have gone full circle. Dont let me down again will be played again with Stevie introducing it as her father's favorite song.

Is anyone writing this down?

I agree with the selling part. Nobody cares about that album except ledgies and some other diehards. (Well maybe not you.) I give it a solid B. I think it actually has some intonation problems in spots. (Unless, I have a bad copy where the tape slowed down). But otherwise, I see why it didn't sell millions and agree with your above assessment.

I think in 1974-1978, the Brits gave Stevie and Lindsey something to focus on other then themselves for 5 minutes. Even a naked album cover couldn't put them on the map.

Well at least until Bella Donna and Tusk came along and that "focus" went away, too. The Brits were so tired, drunk and high by then; they let those two go back to obsessing about themselves, and hating each other.

If he ever goes back, I'm DONE. He will come across as being a TOTAL WUSS. And then there will be(duh) no doubt who the boss is. Not the guitar player with his weenie all shriveled up and tucked away in $tevie's purse.

Um dude, you just wrote it down!:woohoo:

I seriously doubt it would sell more than a few copies. No one(or not enough people) gives a sh*t about a 50yo album. Maybe 20K copies? That ain't enough to satisfy that "controlling dishonest entitled ego centered wind bag"(thanks jbrownsjr).:lol::lol:

The time to release that album was 1997 at the height of the Fleetwood Mac craze boom. CD sales were still stable, Napster had not been invented yet, and there was no streaming other than RealPlayer (yuck!)

I suppose Rhino could release it as a physical copy or maybe they can give it “the works” and make a Vinyl box set with a CD of all the demos and CoffeePlant recordings. It wont sell a lot though. Its best bet is streaming on Apple and Spotify and maybe generating SOME income.

You would certainly think so. I guess it's up to them if the cost is worth the risk if it only sells a few thousand copies. It wouldn't be that different than releasing Time or BTM.

I'm sure they didn't buy the catalogs because they're super fans! It's an investment. Investors don't like bad business moves...

I’ve said for years that it should’ve been re-released in 1998. Once Chris left and sort of derailed any thought of continuing The Dance tour they should’ve “celebrated” the BN 25th anniversary and rereleased it. And ideally done some shows as Buckingham Nicks (with Mick and John). The momentum was then and really only then. It was ideal timing and would’ve allowed them to continue off the 1997 momentum despite Chris’s retirement. Since then I’d say any major interest in it would be pretty limited.

My thought was it should have been reissued in 1996. Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey, and Stevie were all mostly inactive at that point, at least publicly, but there was a buzz for a reunion. Reissuing the album with some demos, outtakes, and “Twisted,” would have generated even more buzz.

But they were pretty much dead at that point. Post Dance would have been their best opportunity for marketing. Not that they know ANYTHING about marketing.

I think it will be re-released for its 50th anniversary in just a few years which also will be the swan song for Fleetwood Mac. Very short goodbye tour with very high prices. Even Mick's meet and greet will go up in price and give you fewer stickers.

I hope they all live long enough for a swan song(which WAS BuckVie). I'm not much on betting these days. Especially at their ages.

Meet Mick? I'd pay $5 if I could kick him in the cashew nuts. The dumbest man in R&R history.

I feel this way, too. This classic album isn’t a classic. There is an intriguing blend of electric and acoustic guitars, and vibrant if not yet wholly matured vocals. But the album doesn’t really cohere. Most of the songs are underwhelming and supported by an undistinguished rhythm section. Only “Frozen Love” merits the hype. It’s also the only song that feels truly collaborative.

"Don't Let Me Down Again" is pretty solid songwriting that just needed a stronger bass and drums so is "Crystal" but yeah if a nude photo of one the most striking young couples in rock history couldn't sell it. You could tell there was something there it just hadn't galvanized yet until they joined up with Fleetwood and the Mcvies then you had the aural equivalent of the old Reese's peanut butter cup ad where someone trips and their chocolate bar falls into someone else's peanut butter jar.

I completely agree with Jbrownsjr—your analogy is great. Musically, Fleetwood and the McVies had a heavy, fat sound. That sound would have fleshed out Don’t Let Me Down Again and a song like Long Distance Winner. Crystal is a well-written song, and the instrumental treatment it gets on the white album is fantastic. But I’ve never been a fan of the vocals on either version. I might have preferred if they’d gone the CSNY route and sang it together...

I love the vocals. I'm so glad Lindsey took lead on this one. The recording of the vocals are so much better than the B/N album, too. Plus, the harmonies at the end give me goose bumps.

I would love to hear Long Distance Winner recorded by Fleetwood Mac. What a treat that would be. Especially, at that time when the egos where oh so small.

It still amazes how such seemingly disparate people had such an instant chemistry. It did seem like magic and few in rock history had such a seamless transition. I'd compare it to the concurrent addition of Michael McDonald to The Doobies . I always thought that his smooth and jazzy blue eyed soul sat rather uneasily next to the established meat and potatoes roots rock of that band. I guess that they thought so too as they were preparing to call it quits just before " What a Fool Believes " became a surprise smash.

You are spot on and have called it exactly. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that, barring any deaths or major strokes, Buckingham will end up back in this band with a scaled back "Farewell Tour" from the Rumours lineup.

I'll go one step further. This has been management's plan all the time and we've all been strung along. Did Stevie and Lindsey have a fight after Music Cares? Was she furious? Did she throw a tantrum and refuse to work with Lindsey? YES and YES to all these questions. However, this woman changes her mind like she changes beaded shawls. Mick and the management team will put a spin on it and play it all in their favor. Mick knows how to pull Stevie's strings to keep her happy.

I'm predicting tears, long speeches about "cyclical growth and catharsis", forgiveness. Cha-ching. The cash will roll in and I WILL BE there eating it up the same way I have for 44 years. Throw two Buckingham Nicks songs into the regurgitated set list and hit the road. They don't call us "punters" for nothing.

She changed clothes so many times that the concert seemed to be a "What happened to Stevie game show" because her band seemed confused what songs were to be played next.

Compare her to Christine, who even in her mid to late 70's, always looks good. I'd say her style is conservative, classic, stylish. Stevie's look is purposely in a time warp and it honestly ages her and at times has gone to pure ridiculousness.

That way she would have fired both of them!!

Omfg, I'd have given 10k for them to redo the Mirage cover with $tevie replaced with an old dirty mop. Seriously.

Chris does not even look like a younger version of herself on the BM album cover. It could just as easily be Carly Simon as Chris. We recognize her clothes, but if you saw that picture from the head up without looking at her outfit, would you have guessed that was Christine?

Same with her solo album, 17 years ago(how is that 17 years? Kill me now).

I know. I bought In The Meantime at (get this) a record store where I bought the CD. Digital music was getting popular but CD's were still the norm. Bought it at Specs music on Miami Beach. Of course that store closed many many years ago. Younger people forget that when you wanted new music that you had to go to a store to get it.

It feels like five years. When another 17 years passes in a matter of seconds, we’ll be old.

Remember when we were waiting for a Q&A from her? I kept checking the website and nothing happened.

The ITM cover is beautiful and I love it. And how dare you people disagree with me!!!

The BuckVie album cover is boring.

And we can go from before the ITM cover to the Dance cover. The real Christine is lovely and in shape. Why does she use pictures like that.

But her face looks more like her own on ITM. I will give you that.

Remember how the SYW cover had a story? Double Suicide. Do you think the BuckVie album cover has a story we don’t know about?

BTW, all of the yearly key art for The Americans had a story. You know the bright yellow posters they had? Elizabeth is holding a gun but her arm is up. That was mimicking the Rosie the Riveter campaign from WW2. I have that Americans poster as my phone screensaver.

She did keep that body in shape. As you will hear in the other thread, Stevie told her to get a trainer. So really, it's Stevie that kept Christine in great shape. :wavey:

With the dancing Stevie did, I don’t think she thought Christine would be the one to keep her figure and she, Stevie, would not. But once the Klonopin caused weight gain it was hard to shed. And if her knees and hips are bad, she can’t work out.

That gang has spent 40 years listening to Stevie droning on about her prowess and sacrifice: “I am the only one who knows how to make coffee” and ignoring her. But I think you and David are wrong. I think there was a love there, a familial tolerance, and overriding affection between all of them. I guess it’s gone now.

Yes we remember. Chris had to chime back that she was on the road with the mac during the early years when it was tough and not VIP treatment like when Stevie joined

She was touring long before goat came around. And just did a world tour at 77. And she looks amazing.
