She said it wasn’t a question she could answer easily, re touring again, but if they did it would be without John and Stevie. Chris also said she felt she was maybe too old for it now.

She said John was “a little frail” and doesn’t have “the heart” to tour any longer.

No reason behind why she said Stevie wouldn’t.

Sad but inevitable.

Stevie Nicks, Christine and John McVie ‘quit Fleetwood Mac’

Fleetwood Mac rose to become one of the biggest bands of all time in the mid-’70s with mega-hits like Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Little Lies and Rhiannon…

But in an interview with BBC Radio 2, singer and pianist Christine McVie hinted she, singer Stevie Nicks and bass player John McVie won’t be touring with the band in the future.

When asked whether Fleetwood Mac’s current line-up – starring Stevie, Christine, Neil Finn, John Mcvie, Mike Campbell and Mick Fleetwood – would tour again, the Songbird star told Sounds of the 70s with Johnnie Walker: “That’s an impossible question to even answer.

“If we do, it would be without John and without Stevie, I think. I think I’m getting a bit too old for it now – especially having had a year off. I don’t know if I could get myself back into it again.

“I know Mick would do it in a lightning strike, but I couldn’t possibly say… We’re certainly not touring this year either.”

She did not reveal whether the trio would still record with the band.

Reflecting on founding member John’s apparent departure from the group, Christine added: “He’s feeling a little bit frail. You know, he was ill – he’s fine – but he just hasn’t got the heart for it anymore.

“He wants to get on his boat. You reach a certain age where you go, ‘Hey, I’m not gonna bust a gut doing this anymore.

“You know, it all looks very nice when you come and see the show, but the work that goes behind it to get to that point is unbelievable.”

Fleetwood Mac formed in 1967 and enjoyed success in the UK as a blues band, before heading stateside and, after a string of line-up changes, recruited Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks and released their self-titled 10th album.

That line-up, featuring Lindsey, Stevie, Christine, John and Mick went on to release 5 studio albums, including the record-breaking ‘Rumours’, ‘Tusk’ and ‘Tango In the Night’.

Lindsey quit in 1987 and was replaced by Billy Burnette and Rick Vito, who toured the album and recorded follow-up ‘Behind The Mask’.

Rick and Stevie later left, while a hybrid line-up promoted the album ‘Time, after which the classic five reunited for ‘The Dance’ and a subsequent tour.

Fleetwood Mac toured sans Christine from 2003 to 2013 as a four-piece, after which she returned for the 2014-2015 ‘On With the Show’ jaunt.

Lindsey left the band in 2018 and, through 2019, Neil Finn and Mike Campbell joined for another world tour.

Oh wow, its amazing how people stretch an interview to mean things she never said. People run to tweet or twist her statements.

She said any future Fleetwood Mac tour is unlikely and would be iffy. Nothing is planned of course since they just got off the road last year.
She was speaking off the cuff. How can you discard Stevie and John since there are no tours even planned. If no tour is planned and they were never asked, how can you discard them?
Its all hypothetical stuff at this point because there is no discussion of any such event. Johns been meaning to stay on his boat since 1983. Stevie has been discarded a million times.

How can you rule out members of a band for a tour that most likely will never happen, is not planned, and not even discussed.

Her voice sounded very old or maybe she was under the weather. Totally irresponsible for some of those tweets trying to make something out of nothing. She sounded like she would not even commit to a tour. There is no tour planned. John was never asked, and Stevie was never asked.

What would be a true and fair statement to say: In the unlikely event a Fleetwood Mac tour did happen, It would surprise Christine if John or Stevie took part.

A headline John McVie and Stevie Nicks leave Fleetwood Mac is ridiculous. By the sound of her voice, its possible Christine would be the last one committing to any such tour.

I know it’s hard to face, but the day has come. A good chunk of the band are approaching the back side of their 70s. Never say never, but the odds of any kind of tour are probably extremely slim.

The band has already said that they weren’t going to do another big tour, and John has been hinting for a few years that his touring days were coming to an end. Nothing especially new. But a few one-off farewell shows could still happen.

However, it does explain Mick and Lindsey reconnecting. Mick wants to tour and Lindsey wants to tour. Putting Mick on drums would get much more press for Lindsey.

When she was asked....so what’s happening with Fmac this year, anymore tours ?

She replied...well that’s an impossible question to answer..
She then said she was too old, it was very tiring, but didn’t rule herself out.

She did day John would not be touring again, as he was too frail.
But he was okay. But she was very clear about that.

Then very quickly she said, nor Stevie....but she did not enlarge....

I would love a Lindsey/Chris/Mick tour. The music would be incredible and it also would drive Stevie insane

But you are talking 2 years from now at least. We suspect Chris lost her ability to play the way she used to. Her voice is really struggling too. So if if Chris is not in the mix, it would frustrate me Mick would share the stage with Lindsey.

Christine interview is somewhere between 1:20 and 1:40 mark.

songs played:
Christine McVie - Crazy 'Bout You Baby
Fleetwood Mac - Say You Love Me
Fleetwood Mac - Songbird
Fleetwood Mac - Never Going Back Again (in response to Christine answer to which on is her favorite FM song. she says it's her ringtone)

i think Christine sounds really good, even though when introduced they said she has a bit of a cold. most answers were general stock FM responses that we've heard before, other than the response about the possible FM tour. it was interesting, she said "if we ever tour again it would be without John and Stevie" she thinks, but then followed that up immediately by saying that actually she is also getting old and not sure whether she'd do it. but that Mick would do it immediately.

definitely explains Mick's aggressive courting of Lindsey recently.

while i wouldn't mind seeing Mick on drums for Lindsey solo tour, i would hate the price hike Mick's presence would bring, as well as all the stupid Mick's m&gs that would come with it - but hopefully without the best seats in the house. for fans, and possible Lindsey too, Mick presence on Lindsey solo tour takes away from fans more than it brings.

Mick's recent interviews sound to me like throwing all kinds of balls up in the air to see whether anything will stick and whether Lindsey would bite. i can see Mick trying to plot a FM tour with Lindsey-Mick-Christine-Neil Finn-Neale Hayward-Brett Tuggle or some such lineup.

and yeah John wanted to retire for the last 10 years and yet Mick pulled him back in every single time, even roped him in the ridiculous 2018 lineup tour. so John being out is not a given, Christine says she doesn't want to put much work (as she didn't in BuckVie tour or FM tours, she basically just showed up) but sounds open to it.

lineup like above can whip up the album fast, with the team like LB-Mitchell Froom as producing. especially since Mitchell Froom is in current Finn's chimeric band as a keyboardist.

How so? I’m a fan of both guys and love how they always seemed to creatively bounce off one another. It would be fascinating, IMO.

Doubtful, at least as Fleetwood Mac.

The 2018 tour had been in the works since 2015.

Christine played a lot on the 2018 tour, especially on Black Magic Woman and Tell Me All The Things You Do.

I don’t know how interested Mick is about putting a radically new lineup of Fleetwood Mac together, one without John and Stevie, and probably Christine. I think a few farewell shows and maybe some new offshoot with Lindsey, but Fleetwood Mac proper is basically over.

anything that can bring him money Mick is interested in. plus he said so in that interview few days ago - he specifically said that he has huge deference to Lindsey and that Finn is one of his dearest friends, and that he would love to have a mutant FM with Lindsey in it before it's all said and done.

and yes, FM proper was over at Musicares. that was the last performance they had. yet they called themselves FM in 2018-19. so that argument doesn't really matter much.

I wish. I quit calling management in the late ‘90s. At that, it was largely Dennis, Steve Wax, and Carl, never Azoff. The last management call was my one and only call to John Courage.

If John isn’t on board then I can’t imagine a replacement for him. The last tour was an embarrassment. A tour with John now would only increase the pointlessness. The project is done.

And no Stevie? I’m a little surprised, but hey, I can understand.

I bet Mick will start sniffing around Lindsey for work!

I just want one more Christine studio project.

Based on some of the interviews Stevie has done over the last year, she's feeling rather resentful that her last 'youthful' years are being 'stolen' from her ie preventing her from getting out and doing her solo shows (as Mick pointed out she would have done one already if she'd been able to). She sees the solo shows as really the forum for solidifying herself as a legend; the FM tours as $$$. At this point, with dwindling time left, and now with the $$$ part taken care of with the catalog sale, her desire to really cap her legacy as herself is her priority. A long tedious Mac tour would not serve the legacy and now she doesn't need the money. So yeah, if she surfaces again, it ain't gonna be with FM but solo.

I would say Al Ortiz in a heartbeat. Stevie got her people into the live band throughout the years. Sharon and Lori, Carlos, Ricky Peterson.

Call me sick if you'd like but I think Christine through this interview is reaching out to Lindsey. She's basically saying, Stevie's going to do her own thing, John wants to live a great home life with his family. I'm up for anything right now.

Perfect time for Lindsey to connect with her. They could do extremely well in the UK touring there. I would love to see them at Albert Hall or the Hammersmith!

I can actually imagine a perfect replacement for John, but I don’t see Mick doing something even more radical than the 94-95 lineup of Fleetwood Mac. That said…

Neil Murray: One of the things that set Fleetwood Mac apart from The Eagles or CSNY was the driving rhythm section. Neil Murray is bassist who was part of a driving rhythm section with the late Cozy Powell. They were in lots of bands together, including Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, and Peter Green’s Splinter Group. He’s also worked with Martin Birch and Keith Olsen, so there’s a kindredness with him. His background in British blues rock, his history with Peter Green, and having been part of a rhythm section make him kind of the perfect choice.

I agree with the second part of this exactly. and sadly, for many of the concert attendees, any of those listed options would still draw them in. I doubt if many of the casual fans could even identify John in a lineup or could articulate that he's the "Mac" in the band's name.

Just listed to the interview.

In truth, there's not much there. Christine doesn't seem to be basing her conversation on anything in particular, other than there just aren't any plans. I wouldn't expect there to be any plans in place. Planning for the medium/long term hasn't been what Fleetwood Mac have done for 40 years. Having seen images of John on the previous tour, its pretty obvious he's most likely done. In truth, I wouldn't expect anything more from him. He's well and truly earned his retirement and it would be unfair to even think of cajoling him into anything more. Stevie will be intent on doing something Stevie-related next. I don't think there's any big revelation from Chris. I think it's just the case she knows Stevie will be taking her 2 year solo hiatus and that means there's realistically no scope for any future FM-related activity afterwards.

I wish Chris would just stand up and say 'I want to make music', whoever that might be with. She's a musician who hasn't created as much music as she should have done over the past 30 years. Mick, Rick, Lindsey, Neil. Whoever. Just do something productive in some way. She tried retirement and ultimately didn't like it. Take charge and be creative!

btw- Mick's so transparent. His cash cow has gone and he's desperate for something or someone to latch onto.

Well, it’s assumed that if Mick is part of Lindsey’s solo band that Lindsey would be the boss, and things like that, especially at the level where they’d be playing, wouldn’t exist. I doubt Mick would do a M&G. Maybe they would do a joint M&G, but it wouldn’t be like a Fleetwood Mac arena show.

Then again, I’m fine seeing them in nosebleeds and have never done a M&G.

:lol: you are attempting some very tortured logic, as usual.

1) i'm speaking for myself, not for "Lindsey fans"
2) it's not just Lindsey fans who were angry at Mick, Stevie and Azoff for ousting him, most of the people who joined Lindsey social media groups at the time as well as people on this board angry about it were Fleetwood Mac fans first and foremost. it's a matter of right and wrong. as far as i can tell most Lindsey fans are happy to have Lindsey solo and not waste his time with Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac and BN fans want him back in Fleetwood Mac.
3) i don't want Mick anywhere near Lindsey's solo touring band. they can work together, or they can be a new version of FM with Christine, Finn and Froom, but Mick should not be in Lindsey solo band. big machine and small machine should be kept separate.

as a fan, i take positions that benefit me (while at the same time getting more music and more rounded legacy from the artist i like) - not positions that benefit Mick's or Azoff's bottom line.

So maybe that Vegas show in November 2019 that was advertised as "The Final Concert" may've been the last one (4 days later they did a shorter concert in San Francisco...scammers)
What would a one-off even be? Glastonbury, Coachella, or Global Citizen Festival?

Oh I would have just loved them to do Glasto the year Christine returned.
I saw them in 2015 and they should have done Glastonbury that summer.

It makes the canning of Lindsey all the more upsetting. If John thought it would be his last tour and also if Stevie thought she wouldn't tour again with the Mac, why did they fire Lindsey?

Suck it up for a few months. This band drives me crazy.

That's exactly why they canned him. They knew it would be the last major tour.

It was a huge tour already in the works. They knew they could squeeze one last big cash grab, pay the lawsuit and then walk away. Stevie was not touring with him ever again. So that was the only option. One last cash grab with Lindsey would cost them millions,.

Re the “No Stevie” element, it seems pretty galling that she would want out after what she did to Lindsey. I know I’ve said this 100 times before but Mck should have given her an ultimatum in 2016 (if not 14) to quit the kitchen if she couldn’t take the heat. That way the album that became BuckVie could have had more added to it and felt a lot less like the half-solo album it really was and they could have had a few positive years to wind down in.

But yeah it looks like the end - unless Mick tweets otherwise.

Tours make money, albums don’t. Stevie wasn’t wrong about that. Mick wasn’t giving up that kind payday for an album that wouldn’t sell or be one of their most critically acclaimed. LBCM is good, but hardly on par with FM, Rumours, or Tusk. Is an album really worth $10 million in lost revenue worth it to a drummer or bass player who don’t write songs?

But yeah it looks like the end - unless Mick tweets otherwise.
Mick will never tweet that. He won’t shut the door.

why does it have to be either/or?

That was the choice presented to them.

Maybe if Lindsey hadn’t had 22 years of public inactivity, if Christine hadn’t been in some state of retirement for 23 years, if Stevie hadn’t become washed up as a songwriter, and the band hadn’t been as inactive for as long as it was, then it wouldn’t have been like that.

A new album from a band that’s already sold over 140 million albums, mostly based on the works from 1968-79, isn’t what’s going to sell concert tickets.

You know what? For a while I said it would have been nice to have Stevie participate on Buckingham McVie. But now, screw that. She can pack sand.

Even if she would have participated, it would of been filled with resentment. Then the tour would of been a huge deal, taking even more time away from her solo gigs and then months of passive aggressive negativity about that. The whole thing would of eventually soured, just like say you will. Even if it went really well, she would b*tch about that, just how she did about the 2009 tour.

I’m glad that cancer never stepped foot in the studio with them. That album stands on its own.I can’t think of a single thing she has to offer that would of even remotely been beneficial to that project. 15 years ago it would be a different story, but her current presence? Nah, hard pass.

it's also not going to HURT sales of concert tickets.

if you're going to sell X number of concert tickets even without a new album, why the f*** not do an album if y'all have songs you want to do and it keeps you feeling fresh? Your studio budget will be significantly less but then LB has a full home studio and so much is done digitally that it's workable. People put out albums for very little.

They didn't because the member with the most clout doesn't have many new songs to contribute like the other 2 do/did. She doesn't like making albums that don't go to #1 (fair enough, although this gets blown out of the water in her case because neither do her solo albums but she's kept doing several of those, even discounting the one she did under contractual obligation) She didn't want to put the time/energy into FM albums because she didn't have to in order to reap the financial benefit. No pretense of artistic anything anymore there.

I agree with the previous poster that other band members (spearheaded by Mick) own a big chunk of the responsibility for not persisting in giving her an ultimatum about whether she's in or out (as far back as 2012, when she wouldn't commit even to a tour and Mick finally resorted to whining to Playboy and other pubs) and doing an album properly called FM without her (ie, BuckVie) because of their own greed for tour money. LB might argue he was playing nice to get her onboard, but if so that failed.

He wasn't going to let them/her screw him out of his last big payday either.

Did they find other ways to make up for whatever they had to pay him? (extra shows, extra merch??) I dunno, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Given the band's history of shunning any previous members who have sued, and given they are not shunning LB (at least as far as Mick and Chris seem to be concerned; we assume about John but not sure we know) it seems like the Brits all view the whole thing as yet another Stevie/Lindsey fight that ended up in a lawsuit. (Though Lindsey did take his swipes at Mick's character "weak" Chris "fragile" which is assumed to be more about her physical state than her mental/emotional state but again who really knows:shrug:).

i would hate for Lindsey to go back to FM with Stevie (i know many people who are FM 5 fans feel very different). but for him to go to FM with Chris and Mick, without Stevie? i can live with that. my first preference would be he does solo projects and other collaborations, but i know for all of their souls, they want reconciliation so i can live with that, if need be. i enjoyed BuckVie. yes it's light, but still. as long as Lindsey first releases and tours his solo album that's been waiting for years now. and i still want that the killers tour with lindsey that we were promised. i would enjoy that way more than another FM tour, in any incarnation.

It includes some interesting footage from the making of the SYW album that didn't make it into the final documentary..... (also the video repeats itself so tho it says it's like 17 mins it's really half that). It also includes some total nonsense like the part where the narrator refers to Chris as a "sometime songwriter" in the band....

Chris's comments were sincere but they were off the cuff. The headline of this thread could also be "Chris may never tour again" Yet some people focused on the reality of other members while ignoring what Chris said about herself. The way some are writing "Stevie and John leave Fleetwood Mac" Will definitely get Stevie to respond at some point. I dont think Chris meant to spawn the controversy. But she was being honest. No one is planning anything right now. After Covid in 2022 I think Chris realizes she is too old. She alludes to it but did not rule it out 100%.
The history of the band always shows, the members are replaceable at any stage. Could Mick, Lindsey, and Christine hit the road for a Mac tour in 2022? Unlikely but possible. Stevie has been in and out of the Mac before. I have always said that I believe Stevie and Lindsey will share a stage together again as fake as it may be.

A few brief points:
1. No John= No Fleetwood Mac
2. With age,Covid, touring hiatus for ALL artists, chances of another tour are slim anyway.
3. Most of us realised that seeing them in 2014/15 will never be repeated and 2018/19 was a ...bonus
$. The band members have minimal contact with each other when they are off the road, so I'm sure that Christine's comments are not to be regarded as definite decisions: she simply responds to the question on the spot.
5. I count myself blessed and fortunate to have seen them 13 times since 1988.

Stevie will need a few years for her Rhiannon project and she said she wanted to do another solo album and of course there will be a tour, so I'm thinking it would be a good five years before she would want to do anything with Fleetwood Mac again. That puts them pushing close to 80. I can't see John or Chris doing a Fleetwood Mac tour again. I really think Christine would have been ok touring if Lindsey was still in the band. Without him, it's not quite Fleetwood Mac. And without John it wouldn't be FM either.

Always loved Genesis. Probably from being a kid in the 80's and 90's, you couldn't go ten minutes without hearing a Genesis or Collins solo song on the radio. While I enjoyed the 18/19 tour myself, I would definitely have preferred it be a Rumours 5 farewell tour (as I imagine the original intent was anyway). An album would have been a bonus but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. In a future where some warped version of FM tours again, I wonder if we'll all be arguing whether it is or isn't FM with Lindsey but no John...?

Love Christine and am glad she came back but the OWTS tour was her last go round with consistent vocals and playing. Was a little sad to see her struggle during 18/19 though it was awesome to see her pull a Time song out. I don't think we'll ever hear Songbird again...and that's ok. I've got my memory of the Columbus show and a video to tide me over. And John has more than earned a rest. I go for the music, not so much that it's a tour under the Fleetwood Mac name. I can be ok with Fleetwood & Friends if it has Christine, Lindsey, maybe Stevie if she comes down off her solo high horse.

Looking forward to being able to attend a concert again in the future...and I really hope Genesis comes back. While I'll always take the 'Genesis was better w/Peter Gabriel side,' the last Genesis tour was a hell of a good time and the recent Collins solo shows had some great vocal performances. He still has it. In my dreams we get a full-on FM reunion, album, and select farewell performances...and a Lamb Lies Down tour with Peter Gabriel era Genesis. A boy can dream!

At the show I attended in November 2019 she was really struggling vocally from the start. The audience helped her out by singing along heartily, it was like were all saying it didn't matter, we will support you regardless. But I don't know how she managed all those nights on the tour.

My opinion is that Christine isn’t of any performance value anymore onstage. It isn’t an on-night or an off-night matter, either. She is at a point where her musical skills are permanently compromised by her stage of life. Thoughts?

Fleetwood Mac needs to call it a day as a touring act which at this point I believe that they indeed have. Too bad that they had to go out like they did.

I don’t think it matters. They’re a nostalgia act. Most people don’t expect a woman in her mid-70s to sound like she did in her 30s, 40s, and ‘50s. She’s hardly the first performer that’s happened to. Sinatra?

All that matters is that she’s Christine McVie. Good enough.

It's kind of hard to imagine what sort of touring band Christine is imagining without John, Stevie and one would have to assume Lindsey. I can just imagine him guffawing "Mick who?" when the telephone call came.

Christine doesn't seem that keen about it all either, and she's probably wisely aware of her declining performing abilities. She's 77, so that's ok. So that would leave Mick, Neil and Mike (assuming the latter two could be bothered and you would have to wonder why if they were), a presumably session man non-member bass player and errm, Bekka Bramlett, perhaps?

What would be the point? A Macless Mac? "It's a new version of our very lovely band Fleetwood Mac," said Fleetwood from his Hawaii home, in a June 2022 press release "we sound great together and I know we will go out and play all the old hits for our fans..."

He might as well just go out with his drums and a karaoke machine for the rest of the band. They had a chance of a graceful, and perhaps glorious exit if that final album could have materialised. Instead old anno domini and animus got the collective better of them.

In reality, I think Christine is gently telling everyone it's over. It's just as well.

Colbie Caillat would be interesting and has a connection to the band.

In all seriousness, the band is over, save for maybe a farewell show or two.

I could see Mick putting some new together or becoming Lindsey’s drummer (which would be mutually beneficial). Maybe Mick and Lindsey start a new offshoot. There are lots of possibilities.

That’s a matter of opinion. “Falling For You” reminds me a lot of Christine. The fact is she’s got a deep, husky, understated voice. Not hard imagining her singing something like “Everywhere.” And, she’s already played with Mick. (https://youtu.be/nS0IzE8AMnc)

I last saw Christine on the Buckingham/McVie tour abd at Classic East and didn’t note a big change in vocals (though wouldn’t be surprised if Brett did more of the keyboard parts). Was it noticeably worse than that on the 2018-2019 tour?

No wonder why Mick is cozying up to Lindsey — Stevie isn’t available. I would guess they could play theaters with Mick/Lindsey/Chris if they wanted to. It might be fun to see. But practically, I can’t see Mick or Chris touring without a big payday.

I think you're right. Her voice being the main thing that just isn't there anymore. In the studio is one thing, but on stage, even with backing vocalists and piped in harmonies, it's just consistently noticeable. Then there was her skills on the keys - there were weird moments at the beginning of the 2014-15 tour where she was pressing wrong buttons or looking a bit lost with her equipment. Songs like Hold Me on the BuckVie tour where she barely looked to even be playing at all. But that being said, I just watched a 2018 performance of Tell Me All The Things You Do and she was going to town.

I think the reality is, she 'retired' during the absolute worst years that she could have. I don't begrudge her decision and maybe she did what she had to do, but being out of commission from the ages of 55 to 70 wasn't particularly good as far as being able to actively tour at 75, 80. It's hard to be a recluse at those ages and then try to come back in your 70's. She wasn't staying loose and performing on stage during those years at all. I love that she came back. I loved that 2014 show in Pittsburgh. I love Chris in Fleetwood Mac - she is the balance needed between the other two songwriters. But, it's hard to imagine, in a post-Covid world, seeing her as an active touring member of a band like Fleetwood Mac.

The rest of them aren't perfect, and that includes lying Mick and loony toon Stevie, but they kept going and kept active during those later years in their lives and I could absolute see Lindsey, Mick, and Stevie out touring after the pandemic. I just struggle to see the McVie's actually doing it - on a big scale.

That Pittsburgh show was magical and I'll always remember that vibe!

I think Christine's voice suffered from the length of that 2014/2015 tour. When I saw her near the end of the Buckvie tour in Northfield OH (casino). She sounded great, maybe because there was a break between the two legs.

Her voice saw a drastic increase in activity from 2013-2019 and it wasn't exactly a gradual progression.

I'd be curious to see how she would sound if you asked her to sing songbird today. She very well might sound better than mid tour in 2019.

I suspect that her voice can't withstand the rigors of touring, not so much an actual decline or issue with her voice (besides natural aging)

Even in your prime, when you sing on tour it's grueling. Sometimes it's cold weather, or you have a cold, or you're just raw. Sometimes, you can't clear your throat all day. It's not easy by any stretch. I sang for a jazz group and by the end of the small tour I would go on vocal rest just for my sanity.

As much as I find Mick repulsive and hated how they did Lindsey, I would totally go and see a show with the three of them. Mick's gonna need money and I think once the pandemic subsides and touring can start again, people are going to be clamoring to go to shows. The payday would be larger than the $0 he's going to get otherwise.

I entirely agree with this. Had she been able to return with at least one of her strengths fully intact, then I’d say go forward it. She was a great keyboard player. So not having her play the keys in any consistent way in stage is sad. Her voice is noticeably older and worn down, but she retained her tone and I enjoyed hearing her on some songs on some nights.

But her return, particularly during the 2018-19 tour was largely a theatrical metaphor.

Not so with her contributions to studio music! Another Christine album would be fantastic.

Gypsy has gotten really, really bad. She can sound good on a few songs, but she just can't do that one justice and hasn't been able to probably since The Dance.

I didn't see them live but from watching videos, Neil voice just sounds brutal on Lindsey's songs. But, then on Hypnotized, I thought he sounded great. Of course, they dropped that one.

For me, it wasn’t the last tour that ruined it. It was Stevie’s refusal to contribute to a new FM album that was so infuriating. Technically, it was her right to hold back: no one can force her. But she knew they couldn’t let her go. She held them hostage to her celebrity. Realistically, what would contributing three or four songs have cost her? Seriously? She could have recorded them and then overdubbed her harmonies on the rest—that might have been like two weeks of work. Instead, she insisted on tours only. And then complained that the tours were brutal. Her spite towards Lindsey and his wishes trumped everything else.

Was she worried about writing something for the album? I can think of a bunch of her old songs that the rest of the band might have been able to do something interesting with: Chanel Chanel, Castaway, All the King's Horses, Grandfather Song, It's Not a Dream. Stevie wouldn't have had to write a single new word.

they were too old to wait for her any time after 1998, now all their unnecessary waiting and giving her the benefit of the doubt is getting back to them - and to us, having no real FM albums since they've gotten back together - just one ruined what would have been amazing Lindsey solo album.

This.

Perhaps the biggest reason I was fine with the last tour was because any illusion that Fleetwood Mac was still an actual band anymore were shattered by the LBCM album. Stevie blowing off the guys is one thing, but also blowing off Christine after she’d been gone for 16 years and, more importantly, blowing off a once in a lifetime chance to make one more album with the classic lineup said all that needed to be said.

The others, including Lindsey, all went along with it. Regardless of his reasoning, Lindsey also fed the monster that was Stevie’s ego.

And, we all know why.

So, if Fleetwood Mac isn’t a real band anymore, who cares who’s in the band? At least they didn’t embarrass themselves with the guys they brought in. Just seeing the core three and hearing Christine play a few keyboard solos, as well as finally hearing some obscure non-Rumours songs was worth it to me. Plus, Lindsey did a lot of deep cuts on his tour (“I Must Go” was a always wish list song for me).It was all good.

I’ve thought this for a long time, way back when there was talk of making a new Album, after Christine rejoined.
All she had to do was work on 3 old tracks..she didn’t have to write anything.
I don’t think she can write a decent song, now....which is fair enough, she is in her seventies.
And no matter what is said about Stevie these days, (all of which she deserves)..She did write some wonderful romantic songs..

It may be heresy amongst the Stevie fans (and possibly offensive to Stevie herself), but I always thought Gold and Braid could have been a great FM song (would have loved to hear what Lindsey would do with it - he took Twisted to another level). Could have been the lead single off a final FM album. Perhaps Stevie views that as strictly solo material, although she has only performed it live (I think there was an early demo of the song on a deluxe version of one of her albums). A nice rocker none the less.

I would imagine by the time of Christine's return, there's no way she would give Gold and Braid to Fleetwood Mac. That being said, it wouldn't have been hard for her to find 3-4 songs to give to the band for one last album. She's just a miserable old a-hole and that's all there is.

I wish their balls were a bit more pronounced and they released it as Fleetwood Mac and toured with Mick and John. In the interviews and press releases, ballsy Mick could just have said "Stevie is doing her solo stuff right now and wasn't involved." But none of them had that level of balls.

As an alternative to the above, I wish Chris and Lindsey would've just been honest (which everyone here knew 100%) and said that the intention was for this to be a Fleetwood Mac album but Stevie wouldn't do it and Mick/Azoff/the label/whoever wouldn't allow it to be released as Fleetwood Mac without her.

Agree about their work together. But using their own logic - if Mick/John/Chris/Stevie/Neil/Mike on tour = Fleetwood Mac, then Mick/John/Chris/Lindsey recording an album should have = Fleetwood Mac as well. It's a great album and would have been a great final recording for the band. Well, it was a great final recording for the band - it just wasn't labeled as such.
