On October 9th she has a new song coming out called Show Them the Way and it’s inspired by political leaders. She also just posted a letter about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. And she just stated she is not voting for Trump. She has never been very political. Never openly admitted who she was voting for, so why all this now?

It’s her age......
That’s kinda like being bored.

It's hard to remain apolitical in these heated, trying times. It might be as simple as that(?)

You must be new here. She was never overly political but in these polarized times people zone in on tiny statements.
The Mac did fundraisers for US Senators
Stevie was always involved in environmental causes her entire career
Stevie told people from the stage to join Greenpeace (considered almost a terrorist organization back then)
Performed at Bill Clinton's inaugural
Performed at the White House for Bill Clinton
In 2016 stated she was going to dedicate Landslide to Hillary when she won
In 2020 states she is not for Trump
Just because you love Trump this irks you but its not new. We all have different beliefs. That's how humans are. Lindsey also hinted he was anti-Trump. So you are going to hate him too because of it?

I’m not new here and performing for presidents like Bill Clinton never used to mean that you actually voted for them until George Bush, who the Left despised. Also, many times throughout her career she refused to answer political questions because her father warned her not to get political. Who knows if she is trying to score brownie points because it’s the in thing to do bash Trump, but this is first time I have heard her say who she is not voting for. Environmental causes doesn’t necessarily mean you are a Democrat.

Oh brother
You see the world only with Trump glasses on. You are asking why Stevie just got "political." Environmental causes whether left or right is political. When you urge your fans to join environmental/political causes....its political. You seem fine with artists being political when they align with your own political beliefs. She does not walk around the stage with political signs or endorse candidates. But yes like most people who are interviewed millions of times there can be some political references in their statements. She did not go on a 10 minute anti-Trump rant. She just said she is not for Trump. Big deal! Why you seem so obsessed with this is silly. Christine publicly stated she would have never voted for Bill Clinton and snubbed Hillary's request to perform at the White House in 2000. Was it her depression or her political beliefs. Who knows but I don't care. You live in a world where you think every decision people make is pro Trump or anti Trump. Its the Fox News world. You are with us or against us. You are young and your reference of political celebrity endorsements or performances is George Bush. OMG. Read some history. 57% of Americans disapprove of Trump across the board in every poll. Why do you think music performers like anyone else would have similar opinions. This is the real world.
John Fogerty is extremely political and even performed at Democratic conventions, attended fundraisers and given political speeches that were extremely anti-Bush. Yet George Bush was a big fan and had his music in his I-pod when he exercised in the morning. Who cares.
But what is sad is your crowd banning Dixie Chicks and removing them from radio because they said something against George Bush. Just imagine if Ted Nugent said the same thing against Hillary Clinton. Would you also support removing Ted Nugent from radio stations. You see.....its the crazy right that is intolerant of political statements. Same deal with athletes. Lebron James gets slammed and yelled at "Shut up and dribble" if he says something political. Yet, the crazy right cries if people attack Drew Brees for political statements and say its his right to say so.
Its pure hypocrisy and its sad.

Give me a break. It is the Democrats who cancel people. They are the ones who are constantly trying to get people banned or fired for supporting Trump. I don’t know what planet you been living on for four years. People who support Trump are even afraid to tell poll workers that they are voting for Trump. I guess I’m sick if the bashing. And if Stevie were voting for Trump she would never say so. She is too smart for that. People would try and have her albums removed from iTunes.
57% don’t approve of Trump because of the liberal media, which is really just another branch of the Democratic Party. Oh and let’s see, fake Russia Gate, fake Kavanagh accusations, fake impeachment... oh wait, a mysterious disease that comes from China, his biggest enemy and destroys his great economy. Then there are the riots in Democratic states where Democrats riot and destroy everything and then blame Trump for spreading hate. Ridiculous.
She needs to keep her mouth shut. Being non-political was one of the most respectable things she has done. She has been hanging out with Sheryl Crow and Bette Midler too much. I bet her new songs sucks.

No, she or anyone does not have to keep their mouth shut. Its a free country with freedom of speech. You are freaking out because Stevie said 4 words. "I am not for Trump" That it. She's not doing commercials, fund raising, or calling Trump horrible slurs like Ted Nugent (calling Obama subhuman mongrel).
What Stevie said is barely political. She was on David Letterman in 1994 and did not even support Bill Clinton (said he was too young). Who cares what she thinks.
You are so tribal that if everyone is not a robot 100% praising Dear Leader it freaks you out.
Chill. There is cancel culture on both the left and right. But you are wrong accusing it only coming from the left. The right cancelled Dixie Chicks and their career. Clear Channel which is right wing media and owns most radio stations in the USA pulled the Chicks from rotation and they were banned on Country Music shows and radio. Their album was #4 and then fell off the charts and they never charted again. Read your own thread and your outrage Stevie answered a question she was asked and gave a short answer. How dare she!

To be fair, we were basically at war with another country and the Dixie Chicks bad mouthed their own country overseas. Natalie is a motor mouth and she destroyed their group. Their sales suck now.
However I’m not going to respond to these comments anymore. There is no point. I think you are the one who is tribal, and I’m sick of the Trump hate, but I’m used to it. I always thought one good thing about Stevie was that she tried to stay out of politics. Not anymore. Stevie just doesn’t care anymore who she upsets.

FALSE
Fact check: The Dixie Chicks did not bad mouth their country. They fly the American Flag at their concerts. They said they were ashamed that George Bush was from Texas. Good grief. That's tongue and cheek and barely an insult compared to Nugent calling Obama a subhuman mongrel.
Another fact check: Stevie did not indulge herself in politics. She was asked a question and answered it in 4 words. She is not out campaigning for or against Trump.
But who really cares if she is for Trump or against Trump except you. Such intolerance its sort of shocking. You hate Lindsey too because he is not for Trump? Who cares.

Let’s take a look at the so-called liberal media on MSNBC.
LEAD ANCHORS
Joe Scarborough: Former Republican Representative from Florida.
Nicolle Wallace: White House Communications Director, George W. Bush Administration
PUNDITS
David Jolly: Former Republican Representative from Florida.
Steve Schmidt: Former Republican Strategist
Michael Steele: Former RNC Chairman
Michael Steel: Former spokesman for John Boehner and Paul Ryan and Senior Campaign Advisor to Jeb Bush
Rick Wilson: Republican strategist
Elise Jordan: Speechwriter for Condoleezza Rice
George Will: Conservative columnist
Susan Del Percio: Republican strategist
Outside of MSNBC, let’s not forget about people like John Kasich, former Republican Senator from and Governor of Ohio and Fox News host. Or CNN conservative host S.E. Cupp who just endorsed Biden. Or Cindy McCain.
There’s nothing liberal about any of these people. They were the backbone of the conservative movement and the GOP.

Oh you are triggered Do you remember 9/11 and what was done. He was the president and we were in a war and it wasn’t tongue and cheek to many people. What are you now - Twitter, acting like you are ultimate truth fact checking people? Ridiculous. Nugent did I said that about Obama after the Chicks. Tit for tat.
P.S. Stevie remembers 9/11. She wrote a song about it called Illume which was all about her.

Their comments were in relation to the invasion of Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. And, their comments weren’t tongue and cheek.
Furthermore, 9/11 had nothing to do with the invasion of Iraq. It was because they refused to let UN inspectors look for weapons of mass destruction, which, go figure, was because there weren’t any. The intelligence reports were doctored.

Iraq had nothing to do with what America went through. There were 2,977 deaths on 9/11. It’s estimated that there were between 100,000-200,000 Iraqi civilian casualties for a war predicated on false intelligence.
And, what about what America is going through? Why don’t we need to stick together, now? COVID-19 has killed 70 times as many people as 9/11.

Notice the way you keep saying FORMER. Joe Scarborough and Nicole Wallace are NEVER TRUMPERS. In fact, Joe Scarborough may have officially switched To the Democratic Party because of his wife MIKA. Both anchors would never be allowed to work if they supported Trump. MSNBC doesn’t really have a Republican as an anchor. At least FOX News hires Democrats as anchors. NBC won’t anymore. Chris Wallace is a registered Democrat and he works for FOX News. He hates Trump.
Your post is mute anyway. Most Democrats even admit the majority of the media is overwhelmingly liberal. That’s why the viewership is starting to dwindle. People are turning to YouTube and other venues because of the bias. FOX Newd ratings are soo high because there soo few conservative channels that they get almost all conservative viewership. CNN ratings are horrible because people don’t trust them after fake Russia Gate. MSNBC was hurt by Russia Gate. The bias in the media has been discussed several times the last 4 years.

She is the one getting involved in politics, so naturally we have to discuss that. She is coming out with a political song. If it leads To her losing fans or discussions about artists being banned because of politics, so what. This is a forum about her career. Don’t read it. She is hardly doing it for attention because there are so many other people speaking out she is lost in the crowd. At this point, I don’t pay attention to the celebs expressing political views. I pay more attention to those who don’t. As that silence tells me a lot I did not want to know about them.

Honestly it all boils down to the quality of this song for me on Friday.
Stevie hasn’t gotten me this excited in a very very long time. Because she’s not talking out her ass about the Rhiannon movie or being inspired to write for a future album**** but is dropping an actual new song in a weeks notice. And the latest article reveals we will get her original account of demo and a very rock n roll version that she is saying stands besides EO17 and Stand Back.
If it’s truly a great song she can get as political as she f***ing wants!
And I’m also with macfan4life tho that she simply ISN’T being overly pokitical at least not yet. She’s simply voicing the fear and anxiety that is actually in her heart now.
A dream about heros of the civil rights movement like JFK and MLK just doesn’t seem political in 2020 to me
*****Astericks included because she actually does mention all of those things also, but neither got me excited for obvious reasons. But including throwing us the bone of this new song so quickly does absolutely get me excited.

Stevie has put out exactly one truly great song as solo artist and that is Edge of Seventeen. I would argue that it is a contender for the greatest rock song written and performed by a woman ever. It was basically a one off for her . (Her other great songs are mostly ballads or mid tempo numbers and all with Fleetwood Mac) I don't think that we will get another or anything close to it at this late date.

I disagree. While EO17 is an iconic song, I personally love ALL of Bella Donna, and most of Wild Heart.
Wonder why $he always embraced Stand Back instead of EO17?
Just so $he can mention that $he met Prince for 5 minutes?
Did $he sleep with him, too? Anyone know? I mean, sometimes 5 minutes is all you need...

Stevie can be political if she wants to be. It is a free country (for now). But people also have the right to be critical of her motives for addressing overt and admittedly on-trend politics in her work. One doesn’t need to be a cynic to think she’s assuming certain political poses to be a part of the national zeitgeist. Given that the overwhelming bulk of her work has serviced her personal mythology, it’s not unreasonable to wonder why she has a sudden passion for civil rights, feminism, and being “woke.”
Even in recent years, she hasn’t demonstrated a heck of a lot of awareness, sensitivity, or tact. This is, after all, the same women who, with Christine, tweeted a pic of herself wearing a face mask as they flew over the burning California forests. Before this, she claimed “Landslide” was written for Katrina and later also said it would make a suitable campaign theme for Hillary’s never realized presidential victory. Unlike Bob Dylan, with whom she classes herself, she is not terribly interested in breaking barriers through her lyrics. But she has exploited topical concerns to prop up her songs.
Mind you, I love her music and have a great deal of respect for her achievement as a cultural phenomenon. Songs like “Nightbird” and “Throw Down” and “Sable on Blonde” and “Gold and Braid” are truly compelling moments of self-absorption. They seek to clarify and define who she was and is at any given moment. And they are entirely hers. When she’s being honest and genuine, she can be remarkable. When she calculates and straps on certain causes, she is embarrassing.

This is pretty much how I feel. She is very calculating and tries to exploit topics to remain relevant. Now it is the political landscape. Before it was the movie Moonlight and Katrina. She’ll do anything to remain relevant.

I don't think it's quite so calculated. Twilight was popular, but there was nothing cool or hip about liking it.

I don’t think that what Stevie said recently was very political. She talked about liking Hillary Clinton in the last election because they were around the same age and she’d met her personally. She has also said that she and Lindsey were hippie kids in describing their liberal views.
IIRC Lindsey even hosted a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in 2016. And I believe it’s been said that John (?) didn’t want to perform at the Clinton inauguration because he held opposing views.
In context, she only brings up politics when someone asks her a political question or something touches her heartstrings (ie her work with Walter Reed, 9/11, New Orleans, etc). Even in those instances, it’s more about the issues than the politics. Right now, Covid seems to be that issue. Like us, she’s stuck in her house and wants to go back to normal life.
I don’t think mourning the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsberg is extremely political either. Stevie was not disparaging RBG’s replacement or talking about rights being under fire. She essentially just said “RIP.” Dolly Parton did the same thing. Women of a certain age directly benefited from RBG’s fight for gender equality, even before she was a Supreme Court justice.
Last I knew, Martin Luther King Jr. was an American hero... Even Donald Trump gifted Pope Francis with a special collection of Martin Luther King’s books... It is not as though she’s turned into an activist overnight here!

I think she has always had her political views and was always aware of what was happening in the world. She talked about Iran in 1979. Of course comparing Lindsey to the Ayatollha. LOL. But I think being home and watching the news, she is pissed at Trump like many are. She wants change.

I thought this was a no politics forum....A Fleetwood Mac forum has to allow sexual politics, at least!
