Well, here Fleetwood Mac goes again with its signature classic rock hit that absolutely will not be kept down. "Dreams," the U.K.-meets-L.A. group's 1977 chart-topper -- their lone No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- has experienced another spike in sales and streams tied to a viral video.
This time, it's due to a TikTok video that took the world by storm late last week, with the enduring song soundtracking a middle-aged man in a hoodie seemingly being pulled on a skateboard, as he swigs from a bottle of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice and occasionally sings along with Stevie Nicks' lead vocal. The clip's incredibly specific vibe of melancholy chill and absurdity captured hearts across the Internet -- and inspired a massive hike in "Dreams" consumption in the days following its spread.
For the three-day period of Sept. 25 - Sept. 27, "Dreams" racked up 2.9 million on-demand U.S. streams and 3000 in digital download sales -- numbers up 88.7% and 374%, respectively, from their totals in the prior three-day periods, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. (The song also climbed as high as No. 24 on Spotify's US Daily chart on Sept. 27.)
The viral bumps are nothing new for "Dreams," which previously enjoyed gains in 2018 following a meme of Alcorn State University's Golden Girls dance team grooving to "Dreams" that took off on Twitter. The spikes two years ago were much more modest however, representing a 24% gain in on-demand streams and a 36% gain in download sales over the week following the meme's debut.
Even when not actively boosted by such social media spikes, "Dreams" has been a regular presence on the Billboard charts in recent years. The song has appeared on Billboard's Rock Digital Song Sales chart for each of the last six weeks, and for much of the year before that, climbing to a No. 5 peak in March. Meanwhile, it's held a place on the Rock Streaming Songs chart since February, hitting a peak of No. 6 in July. And the song has also appeared sporadically on Billboard's all-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs listing, reaching a No. 13 peak following the Alcorn State bump in April 2018.
A whopping 43 years after its initial release, "Dreams" remains one of the most consumed rock songs in America on a regular basis. Check back to next week's Billboard charts, dated Oct. 10, where the song is likely to hit new peaks on both charts following its TikTok journey -- and perhaps enter some new ones for the first time as well.

twitterverse is saying that Mick and co, all multimillionaires, should throw some money to the guy who made this happen for them.
while i like Classic FM song is doing well, i wish it was a different, better song. i dislike Dreams almost as much as i dislike Trouble. adult contemporariness of both of these songs makes me cringe.

I don’t think Dreams sounds like adult contemporary. It’s way better than that and set a standard. There are many songs that sound similar today, but when it came out it was quite an original. Little Lies on the other hand ... I don’t need that on tik tok.
I don’t want anyone from FM to give doggface208 any money, thank you very much.

3) The Chain
4) Rhiannon
5) Gypsy
6) Landslide
7) Go Your Own Way
...
10) Little Lies
20) Gold Dust Women
So it drummed up sales for a lot of their catalog. Pretty amazing...and cool.

GMA just did a segment on the video Dreams craze. They showed the Paris rehearsal of Dreams back in 1977, saying the song was popular again because of the viral video of the man riding a skateboard drinking Cranberry juice. They showed that video and then said Mick did it one better and showed his video doing the same thing. I thought it was nice it got picked up by the news.
I've been seeing it all over the internet, but really hadn't paid much attention to it. I didn't realize just how popular it was.

Both videos are so boring. The only thing that saves them is the song. But the man drinking the cran juice is such a boring video that I cannot imagine people being so bored as to make that go viral.

Following the rise of the video’s popularity, the classic 1977 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit garnered 8.47 million on-demand streams in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 1, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. That sum is up 125% compared to the previous week (3.76 million).
Previously, "Dreams'" best streaming week came in the week ending Sept. 10, with 3.83 million clicks.
“Dreams” also sold 7,000 downloads in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 1 (up 584%) – its best sales week since the week ending July 24, 2011, when it sold 9,000.
“Dreams” makes moves on the Billboard charts (dated Oct. 10), too, as it re-enters at a new peak of No. 8 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, climbs 19-1 on Rock Digital Song Sales, and rises 7-3 on Rock Streaming Songs. (Billboard's charts dated Oct. 10 will refresh to Billboard's websites on Oct. 6.)
The cut also impressively enters at No. 36 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart, a list which is normally crowded with current hip-hop and pop tracks.
On the Billboard Global 200 chart, which ranks the most popular songs around the world, “Dreams” debuts at No. 51. On the Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. tally, it bows at No. 161.
Rumours also surges up Billboard’s lists, as it rebounds 47-27 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, marking the first time it’s been in the top 40 since early 2013. The set earned 19,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 1 (up 56%). The album also inches up 33-29 on the Album Sales chart with 4,000 copies sold (up 45%).
“Dreams” is also featured on the band’s Greatest Hits album, which jumps 169-103 on the Billboard 200 (9,000 units; up 35%) and moves 50-46 on Album Sales (3,000 sold; up 45%).
And finally, the new album The Alternate Rumours – released Sept. 26 exclusively on vinyl the latest Record Store Day Drop – enters the Billboard 200 at No. 165 (7,000 units – all from album sales). It also debuts at No. 12 on Album Sales and No. 6 on Vinyl Albums. The release presents an alternate view of the classic album, with different takes of the album’s tracklist subbing in for the original album versions.
(Editor's note: "Dreams" re-enters at No. 8 on Hot Rock & Alternative

Any of the younger stars would have made some sort of acknowledgement via their social media.
I guess since this guy is just an average Joe, he's not worthy of her attention. Her team has to know the impact of this video. Now, if a FAMOUS person had done this video (say, Harry Styles or one of the Haim girls etc) she'd be all over it. She really is a snob.

Fleetwood Mac's Mick surprises viral Dreams TikTok star Nathan Apodaca
Fleetwood Mac's drummer Mick Fleetwood has surprised the star of a viral TikTok video featuring the band's 1977 hit song Dreams.
Nathan Apodaca from Idaho filmed himself skateboarding to the track while drinking cranberry juice.
The TikTok has helped Dreams to its biggest ever week on streaming services - with more than 8 million streams in the US in the past week.
BBC World News America brought the two men together live on TV.

Surely Karen has seen it; Stevie's god daughters are all young enough to inform her about it (as Mick said his daughters told him to do his video). But you know Stevie, social media is evil blah blah blah (she says as someone who doesn't actually use it or know it) But I just don't see Stevie saying as Mick did that the band "owes" this guy for pushing the song into people's consciousness in this way. She thinks it's all because of her and how fabulous a songwriter she is. And really, would she be talking to a guy in a beat up motor home? She only talks to celebs. She's a legend you know.

I hate to beat a dead horse and prefer to let things go, but all this current success has made the breakup of the band more disappointing and an embarrassment. Mick has already been trying to exploit the moment for the attention, but you know he would love to see a bigger financial gain from the attention by putting the band on display. And you better believe that he has spent the $14+ million that he made on the last tour and needs money...again

This is an interesting take from a Youtuber I like called Rick Beatto;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdQAEEwgx1E
That said, I don't buy the Stevie Nicks attitude/Lindsey Buckingham attitude.
I think the situation is much more nuanced and I'm not even sure how much involvement the band members themselves have in blocking Youtube clips (but I do know from many other Youtubers that Fleetwood Mac, along with Eagles, are really big blockers). I think on this occasion the TikTok wasnt blocked as they just didn't get a chance as it blew up so quickly.

i can't stand that guy. Lindsey Buckingham's own videos were taken down / blocked in the past on youtube, remember? back in 2006-2008 on his channel. and somehow all our live recordings of Lindsey's song stay up, but RB's never do? riiiiiiight.
that said, i do think WB or a part of that co has a hand in some of the blockings.

That’s the Rolling Sones chart. Billboard is the chart most people use. It looks like Dreams is #10 on the worldwide chart and was the best selling track in the world last week, which is phenomenal. It’s lower in the U.S. Top 100 because of airplay. It’s only getting played on on classic rock stations. I think it hits #12 tomorrow.

And long before Dreams came back on the charts and experienced a spike in sales and streams tied to a viral video, it reached No.1 a day like today.
It's been 48 years, how many things were different.

I've been hearing Dreams, Don't Stop and SYLM almost everyday.
Radio, stores, etc.
