Now that Warners are releasing the Early Years box set chronicling 1969-74 including bonus tracks and a live set, is it inconceivable they could also do a Later Years covering 1988-2013. Here's what I have in mind.
DISC 1: Behind the Mask (+ tracks from sessions)
DISC 2: Time (+ tracks recorded before Warners forced Christine's involvement - I'm sure there must be some - and World Cup version of Blow By Blow).
DISC 3: The Dance
DISC 4: Say You Will
DISC 5: Non-album cuts as follows (order flexible)
1. As Long as You Follow
2. No Questions Asked
3. Paper Doll
4. Lizard People (not currently commercially available)
5. Love Shines
6. Heart of Stone
7. Make Me a Mask
8. Not Make Believe
9. Love Minus Zero/No Limit
10. Sad Angel
11. Without You
12. It Takes Time
13. Miss Fantasy
14. Gold Dust Woman (The Dance DVD version)
15. Over My Head (Dance DVD)
16. Gypsy (Dance DVD)
17. Songbird (Dance DVD)
18. Go Insane (Dance DVD)
19. Peacekeeper (Live@AOL version)
20. Smile At You (Live@AOL version)

It's an interesting songs content. However it's like combining different bands. I know many people consider the rhythm section (M+J) as the "glue" of Fleetwood Mac, but in my personal opinion it is not enough. Listening Time and SYW songs together is kind of weird.

I agree this release will not happen. If any other “box” releases it could be ..

So, there's an overlap of these songs?

Well no because they didn't appear on the CD edition of the album - there wasn't room.

Wasn't Go Your Own Way edited too from the original concert version? Or maybe it was The Chain? Or maybe I'm getting confused and thinking about one of the re-released greatest hits versions?

Both songs are on both formats. I don't know about any edited versions.
Say You Will box set would be great.
CD 1 Original version
CD 2 B sides/ Alternative tracks from unreleased double album
DVD concert full Boston live show
DVD 5.1 audio surround sound

Considering that THE DANCE was a number one album and that the CD was always a shortened track list, it seems bizarre that, in twenty-three years, it has never been repackaged more completely or been transferred to Blu-ray. I don't know whether it was originally filmed on celluloid and I have heard that a high-definition release is impossible. What I hear is that film stock can be upgraded to high-def or UHD but that digital shoots can't.

But which "full Mirage show"? Not the LA video - I've seen it already. Wouldn't you rather have a film of the performance at Joe Louis in Detroit, or at the Meadowlands, or the Oakland Coliseum, or McNichols in Denver - all great, great shows that you could discover afresh? Even the show at Irvine Meadows seemed more tightly packed with great, haunting moments than LA. Truthfully, LA felt to me like an also-ran to Irvine (which was about a week or two earlier) and to Oakland the night before. The tour had many highlights, but the stuff that wound up on the sloppy, vibe-killing video didn't capture enough of them.

Yes to all of this. What they put out for the live performances on the Mirage Deluxe was absolutely awful especially after how well the the Tusk Deluxe was done. To just put in the exact songs pulled direct from the 30+ year old Video was lazy and sloppy. A full show with the songs in the correct order, Hold Me, Brown Eyes, etc would have been so much better. Somewhere I have MP3 files of Oakland and Denver. It’s been years since I pulled them up but from what I remember both are great shows and include equally strong performances of the video highlights (The Chain, Sisters). I can imagine actual recordings that have been cleaned up would be amazing and certainly preferable to what they actually did on Deluxe.

Yes! Everyone would agree to that but is that reality? Were any of those shows recorded? Back in those days it was lots of work with a big film crew to record concerts. I would be surprised if they took them on the road to video all the shows you mentioned.
If any of them were professionally shot then of course, they would be fantastic. But even in 1982 groups hammed it up for a recording. Didn't someone say in the LA Mirage show that part of Christine's keyboards were prop for the cameras?
I cant even watch the lip syncing of the Mac's 1988 "live" show and Stevie's Red Rocks.

Tango is the only FM video I don't own(well, I think I have it on VHS somewhere). I can't stand 90% of it. All those stupid closeups. What kind of egomaniac hires a "closeup director"?

Imo the Mirage and Tango concerts released on VHS and or DVD were terrible. Mirage has some good moments but Stevie's voice is so nasal it is pretty much unlistenable. I do love her SOTM performance. With the Tango concert I hate the closeups and the dumb backstage shots. The band is performing and yet they spend time backstage during a song to show the band horsing around or whatever. It is stupid.

The close ups are annoying but its the lip syncing that turns me off. HELLO! Its supposed to be a live concert. I would not be surprised if Stevie was behind it since she did that for Red Rocks. If you pay attention you will also see similar visuals between the 2 videos of being far away and people have different hair compared to the close up singing. The Mac's was much better put together mostly because Stevie was a mess and even close ups could not save her Red Rocks show.
Does anyone know if other bands ever did this? This is the most ridiculous thing ever. Think about it. They recorded a live show for distribution yet gave the fans a lip synced concert aka video performance.
And why edit a concert down to 58 minutes. They did concert footage medley for Songbird and then the credits ran for only the audio version of Dont Stop. Marty Callner directed it who was a mainstay of 1980s videos and concerts.
My pet peeve: Stevie and her HUGE earrings during Gold Dust Woman when she would turn to the camera for a close up to say "OH YEAH" is so unrock n roll
And you just loved Mick's body performance.

I loved the Mirage concert. That was the last days of real men with real cameras filming on stage. Yes it had quirks like the bad slice at the end of Sisters but for the most part I thought it was recorded fairly well.
One of the coolest parts of the concert is when the camera on the opposite side of the stage is zoomed in on Christine while she is singing her heart out during the Chain. The same camera then loses focus (gets blurry) to then focus on Stevie (clear focus again). That is something you would NEVER see today. It was the way to capture both singers without moving the camera. Today they would just use 2 automatic cameras zooming around the stage and it would be edited together. Looking back, what a cool effect IMHO. People actually had to focus cameras. Imagine that!

There is a little Denver on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85YeIeS_U0Q.
I have always loved the 1982 Meadowlands and the Detroit concerts on audience tape. There are not of course enormous differences between performances in the span of a five-week tour. There are smaller but still prominent differences in band tightness and adventurousness (especially from Mick and his fills) and certainly in Stevie's and Christine's vocals. I have long thought that the band filmed the wrong shows in 1982 - and 1987 and 2003 and . . . . You need to film a number of shows on a tour and settle on the best. Actually, if you have Fleetwood Mac's budget, you should film twenty shows. I think that the band just didn't give a damn about recording concerts for posterity and those few products were an afterthought or were scrambled together by the band's assistants. The ugly, ill-lit footage from the Forum in 1982 is a case in point: How could a superstar band who created such lovely promo videos that year that advanced the art also release a feature-length concert video that looks as if it were shot by a local spot-news crew just passing by? And the audio - which couldn't even be cleaned up well for a deluxe Mirage release a few years ago - was atrocious. It was like a home recording of a kid in the sports arena audience.

I could be in the minority but liked the dark lighting at the Forum show. Of course I am watching it on TV. Stevie's Wild Heart tour also had extremely dark lighting. Maybe she used the same crew. You can see it at her Largo show.
IMHO there was something magical about the Mirage shows and the darkness added to the mood.
But from what I have seen of the Tusk shows, they were also quite dark. I dont think until the 80s did bands do the full lighting at concerts.

The treble and high frequencies are really really bad. They had to be deep in the red on the high ends. I think of a tin can when I hear the audio.
In some cases, the Deluxe Version of Mirage is worse than the VHS I used to listen to on headphones back in 1982/3.

If Behind the Mask can’t get its own Deluxe Edition, then I could settle with combining up it with Time. As long as they include tons of BTM demos, outtakes, etc. marketing wise, it makes sense to fold the two incarnations into one. I know a BTM Deluxe Edition wouldn’t sell that much, but imagine how much a Time DE would sell!
I’m sure the Dance will get the Deluxe Edition treatment on its own; Say You Will I’m not so sure. I mean, it’s already pretty much a double album, so I don’t think there was much left off.

For BTM, I’d love to see something like what they did with Eric Clapton’s first solo album. Disc 1 was the original mix while disc 2 was the Delaney Bramlett re-mix.
Disc 1 would be the regular mix, and maybe have Ken do a remix for disc 2. Disc 3 would be outtakes, demos, etc. Maybe a disc 4 of live songs.

I would LOVE a reissue of BTM but it will never happen. This era wants to be forgotten. But I would have never expected a reissue or deluxe of The Live album so I have to correct myself. NEVER say NEVER ;)
I just dont think the album was successful enough for a record company to make a deluxe edition. But could you imagine the raw demos, the left over tracks, and give us the professionally recorded live show in London (which rocks btw).

I'd enjoy unreleased BTM time period tracks. I'm not a fan of the BTM album because I think it's too much of an easy listening/ perhaps adult contemporary album; I'd love to be able to like it but I can't listen to it. ^ Good stuff. I like Say Goodbye live better. My problem with BTM is the sound is so predictable to me. I don't hear rock when I listen to it and even when guitar is highlighted it feels lost in a lame 1985 keys sound. With SYW, I feel like I get a surprise with each track. Stevie's vocals are on fire across SYW too.
I don't understand the BTM cover. Wish I did.

I always felt the Behind the Mask cover was a bit random. I get the band didn't want to appear on the front cover- probably for commercial reasons as they wanted to deflect from Lindsey's absence. However, I just never really appreciated the image.
However, when you look into other photo-art from the photographer Doy Gorton, it's much easier to appreciate his work. His compositions are great and the colours are really rich.

He later produced an album cover for a country singer- Patty Loveless (Mountain Soul). The image used was an almost exact copy of the Behind the Mask composition:
https://dgorton.com/
I now quite like the Behind the Mask image. However, I think it would have come across better had they cropped it square and covered the entire album cover. As it is, the smaller rectangular image on the background with separate text looks a bit tacky.

Behind the Mask in retrospect, was a glass half full type of album, but I always did like the cover and felt it was a creative way to represent the band. I also really liked the album in 1990 and the concert was awesome at the time. Nicks was in fabulous voice and the band was tight with slightly less backstage help. I agree that it would have had a better effect if they left off the mustardy border. But otherwise, I like it, and the band pictures are also great and promote the mask theme. Too bad the music wasn't of a higher standard overall.

I love the album cover. Are you kidding me. You could have a college class earning credits discussing this album cover. It says so many things and if you stare at it long enough, you may notice something before that you never noticed.
I don't think Lindsey's absence had anything to do with the band not on the album cover. The band was not on the album cover of Tango either. I absolutely hate the Tango album cover. Modern art of a swamp by some Aussie painter. No thanks. Give me imagery with mystery every time. From Kiln House, Mystery to me, Rumours, Tusk and even the posing of Mirage brought amazing imagery. Tango is so 80's. No substance and outdated by the end of the decade. It could be a photo hanging on the set of the Golden Girls.
The Live album cover is insanely good. Ever notice some members are facing you while others are turned the other way. So clever and so freaking cool.

With the release of the 1969-1974 FM box set, I really think a box set of BTM, along with the 4 songs from the Chain, As Long As You Follow and No Questions Asked, and the Time album will be combined and released within a year. Maybe called the 1988-1995 Years. With the rerelease of every other FM album, including those without Lindsey and Stevie, I don’t see the label stopping until every FM album is rereleased, including the Dance.
I’m excited and hopeful a lot of good material will be included! Rick Vito and Billy Burnette deserve recognition for their role in the band. Bekka and Dave, too.

When I say Rick and Billy and the others deserve recognition, I didn’t mean by FM, I meant by the fans. A rerelease would be one way to recognize their contributions. Honestly, I never expected FM’s early albums to be rereleased, but they were, so that gives me hope their later albums will be. And if the label doesn’t think a rerelease of Time would sell well on its own, then combining it with BTM makes sense. I mean, I would pick up a deluxe BTM in a heartbeat, but not Time. As someone already pointed out, BTM sold better than Live, and Live is getting the deluxe treatment.
Besides, we all know that it’s the diehard FM fans buying these rereleases. A casual fan isn’t going to pay $100 for the Deluxe Editions... or even the much cheaper but still pricey rereleases. The fact that so many albums have gotten the Deluxe treatment means the diehard fans are enough to justify the label doing this. What can I say, I have faith.

Don't get me wrong, I love both Billy and Rick, and have met both of them in Nashville(okay, Billy came into the bathroom, and pee'd beside me, so that was more of an.....organic meeting). They're both nice guys, and I wish them the recognition they deserve. But that doesn't mean they'll get it, especially from the selfish bunch that is FM.
I actually like Time better than BTM. But a rerelease of either better not be more than $20, or they're in serious marketing trouble. A $100 LIVE is a huge mistake for an album that didn't sell well 40 years ago. Dump the vinyl and sell it for $35-40, if you want to move more than a (very) few thousand copies. At $100, I'd be shocked if they sold more that 5K copies. That's a lot of money for something that was never popular to begin with!

While this is very true, this logic didn't work 40 years ago, when they tried it then. But I LOVED it!!! I bought it the day it was released, and couldn't unwrap it quickly enough to play it in the car on the drive home. But we're not exactly casual fans here....

Good point, but one would say the same thing about the 1969-1974 box set- no Stevie or Lindsey, no big hits, etc. Only diehard fans would buy these deluxe editions, and apparently enough diehard FM fans are buying them that the label is now rereleasing the albums without Lindsey or Stevie, which is a good sign. My personal feeling is that the pre-BN FM music is revered because it's the original FM. BTM is a continuation of the pop rock band FM became with LB/Stevie.
The 1969-74 set is interesting to people as it says 1969-1974; An anthology of years connects more with people than an album they may never heard of, BTM. Plus, if these people listen to Classic Rock stations, they'll be familiar with Hypnotized, Oh Well, Sentimental Lady, BMW.
All of this is just my thinking but I feel confident about it.
I hope you get a BTM reissue. I really don't know what extra tracks would go with it!

Yes, although I would still keep Make Me A Mask. I get the sentiment Of keeping it Lindsey-less, but it should still be on it since it was only released on a Fleetwood Mac comp. Assuming there’s soundboard audio recordings, I’d have Landslide, Tear It Up, and Go Your Own Way from the last night of the BTM tour, which all feature Lindsey, Don’t Stop from the Inauguration, and SYLM from the Super Bowl.

I’m torn about Make Me a Mask, but ultimately I’d be ok whether it was on a Deluxe Edition or not. I love all your suggestions here, but I’d also include the videos of the Super Bowl and Inaugeral performances, if at all possible. That seems unlikely due to copyright, etc, but yeah, at least the audio. Plus the concert performance of Skies the Limit, taped live at Red Rocks and the only time FM performed it live, for the video. And of course, the videos of As Long As You Follow, Save Me, Skies the Limit, and Love Shines, and throw in In the Back of My Mind and Paper Doll, I guess. Man, I would also kill to have the video performances of the album FM did for some other country, maybe Japan or China? It used to be available on YouTube but has disappeared. It was all lip sync, but still incredible to see FM perform Freedom, Love is Dangerous, Save Me, etc.
A Deluxe Edition would have to include Game of Love and Victim of Love, two incredible songs I can’t believe were left off BTM!

Totally unrelated but this comment made me think about this because I would agree you don't see a lot of pics from the Tango/BTM era. That being said, I graduated high school in 1998 and within our yearbook was this insert type thing that talked about pop culture from our senior year. Anyway, it talked about Fleetwood Mac reuniting for The Dance and being inducted into the RRHOF. That’s not an accurate characterization. It’s not about crediting a player for the hit, per se. It’s just a fact that Lindsey never had a Top 10 single without Mick. In that same sense, Christine never had a Top 10 single without Lindsey.
In the case of “Trouble,” and Lindsey’s songs in general, I think Mick adds a feel that compliments what Lindsey is doing.

So if being (publicly at least) pals-y with Billy would irritate Stevie and make her turn some of her ire towards Mick, I could see him avoiding Billy to keep the peace with her. This band is so f****d up anything seems feasible.
I don’t think that every single incident with Fleetwood Mac centers around Stevie. Does anyone really think Stevie threatened Mick if he invited Billy to perform at the Peter Green tribute because of a tweet?
Billy had a heart attack and then later contracted COVID- those are reasons enough that Billy would have skipped the tribute. Or maybe Billy was irritated at Mick for not being called in to replace Lindsey so he declined. I just hope whatever the circumstances, Billy is in good health and doing well.

The tribute was just before Covid.

Assuming thereÂ’s soundboard audio recordings, IÂ’d have Landslide, Tear It Up, and Go Your Own Way from the last night of the BTM tour, which all feature Lindsey, DonÂ’t Stop from the Inauguration, and SYLM from the Super Bowl. The last two nights of that tour have more historical value than musical, in my perspective. The performances were pretty stodgy. The inaugural was a visual mess but it may have been an OK audio (although still not suitable for inclusion because there’s an announcer). But the Super Bowl was fine indeed.
I am aware of a few soundboards: Salt Lake City 1987 and 1990, Las Vegas 1987.
But there are a few radio broadcasts (Fresno 1987, Germany 1988 and Manchester UK 1990) and a tour rehearsal for 1990 (Dreams, Rhiannon, Save Me, The Chain, When the Sun Goes Down).

It would indicate a Manchurian Candidate level of intrigue and plotting that is rather silly.

It was probably nothing more than Billy just never being needed for the tribute concert.
Billy is not a big enough name to merit an involvement in the event. Rick was only a part of it due to his reverence of Peter. It also sounds as if it was a peace offering from Mick to Rick as they'd fallen out a couple of years previously (or at least grown apart).
All other guitarists involved were A-listers or iconic players. Billy wouldn't have added anything.
I'm sure it would have had nothing to do with Stevie Nicks' opinion.

Do you not remember all of the various Boston Tea Party comps?
If it has the Fleetwood Mac name, there will be exactly that Manchurian Candidate level of intrigue and plotting.

I think Mick did wonderful drumming on Trouble. I think Lindsey put drum programming on it too.
Lindsey did a round of interviews in 1981 for his first solo album. He revealed a number of interesting things about the album. Mick’s drum track is a loop, like “Tusk.” They couldn’t get a satisfactory full drum track from Mick, but they got great patches. So they took fifteen or twenty seconds of a patch, cut the dioxide tape, glued the end of it back to the beginning, and then ran it through the player to create a full drum track. Lindsey said that the result still had Mick’s signature creep (drum style).
