Good question. It definitely feels like the end. The last ticketed event is in Las Vegas on 11/16. The next (and AFAIK last) date for the group appears to be on 11/20, for a benefit show, during the Dreamforce 2019 conference.

Of course a lot depends on the state of Micks’ Bank balance.

I wonder also. It's billed as the last concert, but we know how things change. I'm torn over going. I've boycotted over how Lindsey was treated, but a part of me still wants to go. So far I've just looked at tickets online. I have pushed the button yet.

You were the same person who told us Iovine would present Stevie with her Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Nomination. What do you know? Not much probably. If it were the last tour FM would have billed it as a Farewell Tour. As long as they all live and are healthy after Stevie finishes her next tour, my best guess is they will have a FM farewell tour. Hopefully will include Lindsey.

Is this the end of the line?
If you’re talking about this lineup, I don’t think there’s anything else they can or need to say. They’ve been doing their Vegasy shows for about a year and a half — unless they want to continue bringing the circus to a “town near you” for years to come, or plant themselves in Vegas for a very long engagement.
Otherwise, they seem to be done. What would they do while Stevie Nicks is on the road for 2020—21?

The only thing I can think of (and I’d rather not) is Fleetwood Mac morphing yet again into another lineup — to do what, I don’t know. You need names to tour big league the way they’ve been doing for two years, so if you’re going to hire more people, you’d better find names. This band seems to have no further interest in a studio life, so all they can do is be year-round entertainers. I used to cringe when they’d saturate the market, but no more — every show they do is a supersaturation point.

Fleetwood Mac is life-supported to the boomers. “Buckingham McVie” doesn’t seem quite the right way to go out for a titan such as Fleetwood Mac. Melodic as it is, that album is kind of inconsequential, breaks no new ground, and musically retreads 1980s high points. Its a genteel little album whose purpose seems to be dipping its dainty little feetsies in a hot tub of nostalgia.

Is this the end of the line?

One can only hope. With Stevie off on her own for a year or so (how ever long her alleged solo tour is), Mike and Neil doing their own thing. Mike also has sounded very non commital to anything further with them, John doesn't seem to be taking part in the Peter Green/Early FM gig, which is very odd imo---if and when they decide to perhaps mount something again, Christine could potentially be pushing 80. That's not gonna sound good

Its a genteel little album whose purpose seems to be dipping its dainty little feetsies in a hot tub of nostalgia.

You're probably right. More than anything else, "Buckingham McVie" serves as a reminder of one aspect of its participant's legacy--elegant, effervescent pop-songcraft. It is, in part, a tribute to MIRAGE and some portions of TANGO; it is also a testament to the collaborative powers of its two leads. But the overall effect of the album feels boutique-y, deliberately minor in scope and scale, as if through coy modesty two richly talented singer-songwriter-instrumentalists remind the world that they are as hooky and clever as kids 45 years younger. Stevie's refusal to participate and the remaining four's fear to call it Fleetwood Mac in her absence meant the pressure was off and they could simply play together. It's all very creative and fun, but a certain intensity is lacking.

I do think the album might also have felt more substantial had it not really been blending of two distinct projects: the first a collaboration between Lindsey, John, and Mick meant to entice Stevie to return to the studio for a suitable follow up to SAY YOU WILL; the second a near-as-Mac-as-you-can-get suite of Christine songs sans Stevie. Christine's absence on Lindsey five tracks is my only real beef with the project. That, and the "freedom in my mouth" line from the collection's otherwise best song.

Honestly, she has known the guy for a year and all of a sudden he's "the best singing partner" for her? Finn must have internally rolled his eyes so hard!

So, basically Lindsey meant nothing in her life. Not romantically and not profesionally speaking. Maybe now she will finally stop mentioning him. Finally.

Despite how valid the Lindsey/Stevie feud has been, a small part of me still thinks this entire drama is one huge PR stunt staged by managers with the hope of launching another "The Dance" style REUNION. But, now a pesky little heart attack has left everything in limbo.

Picture it, Lindsey is tired of playing the same old rinse, wash, repeat set list with Fleetwood Mac. He needs a break, but doesn't want to throw away his cash cow forever. Stevie and Mick, ever the cash grabbers, can't stand to just sit home. Stevie's friend Mike, who has just lost his cash cow (Tom Petty), needs to keep busy. Mick's friend Neil (who had two hit songs over 30 years ago) just needs some money. Enter management--let's stage yet another "feud" within a band already known for drama. Lindsey gets a break for solo material from "the small machine", Mick and Stevie get to keep touring and throw in some pre75 tunes, a couple of sidemen make some money----PRESTO! Everyone is happy.

Fast forward to 2022. It's time for a DANCE STYLE REUNION that will double as a FAREWELL TOUR with the 5 members of the Rumours lineup. We can have long, teary eyed speeches about forgiveness, how we are "destined to be in a band together", etc... You know the routine, you've bought tickets to this sh*t show for years.

THEN.........a pesky little heart attack leaves everything in question.

She said that? OMG, they sound awful.

As for FM, I think it's the end. They're all getting up there. By the time they'll get back together Christine will be pushing 80. Her voice is not what it used to be (and that's putting it mildly), Stevie sounds horrible and there's like what, 15 people on that stage? How many will there be if they get back together? 25? :distress:

I tend to agree they will find ways to do more stuff. Maybe not big gigantic tours, but shows of some kind. Mick reports that Chris is the one constantly saying "what's next? what's next?" and is fired up to work. She got her 15 years of retirement until she was bored stiff.

Stevie can't seem to stop working and her managers will prop her up and send her out there as long as there's a buck to be made. Corporate gigs are big money for little time investment so I see her still doing those. Or smaller solo tours. She likes being a LEGEND and staying somehow in the public awareness.

Mick will keep finding ways to cash in. If nothing else he'll keep playing at his restaurant and have Chris join him but that's not the same money is it?

The only one I see embracing retirement is John.

But it all depends on health. THey're all officially old now for sure.

Like the previous post, I’m betting on a Stevie Nicks tour with Sheryl Crow as the opener (a la Stevie/Pretenders) to begin as early as May of 2020 and continue throughout the summer. Although Stevie last played arenas, I’m wondering if they’ll hit the outdoor sheds like other dinosaur acts (Heart, Journey, Bob Seger). The Pretenders are opening for Journey next summer playing the sheds. Sheryl has a new duets album out and needs to hit the road to fill her retirement kitty.

I was never a Journey fan but last year I watched a high def full youtube video of their concert and was blown away. The band blew everyone out of their seats and yes the guy from Manila still is the lead vocal and does an amazing job.

I saw Journey in Oct, at their residency in Vegas. A number of the group that we were with were very....."meh..." about seeing them. I was super excited and I've seen them on their tours.

Every single person was completely stunned at the quality and professionalism that they displayed. And although Arnel is not Steve Perry, he is every bit as good vocally.

It was really fun, high energy and we all sang Journey songs all the way back to the hotel.

Well, sure, Stone in Love is on my playlist, too. (I concede its value as a workout tool.) But while Journey was churning out empty, fist-pumping pseudo-cocky sing-along anthems and schmaltzy ballads that could have been written by record label execs, Chrissie Hynde and James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon and Martin Chambers were making rock history on their first two albums, kicking the living daylights out of all the bland corporate crap that monopolized the airwaves in 1980. I know many years have passed—and the loser now will be later to win, in Dylan’s great words—but it’s still weird to see the Pretenders tour with Journey. What hath time wrought? Is John Lydon going to go out on the road with Air Supply? Public Enemy and Bruno Mars—an idiotic publicist’s dream?

Hehhehehhe.... poor Stevie ... she just can’t make good records.

Stevie in theory is better than Stevie in practice. Dare we say it?

Well, at least since “The Wild Heart.”

However, she still sells a lot of tickets and is somehow the only woman in the HoF twice (weirdly before Tina Turner or Grace Slick), hence her power within the band.

Ken might have said it best:

Smashing Interviews Magazine: What is your relationship with the rest of Fleetwood Mac?

Ken Caillat: Well, I have a relationship with Mick. The band was not really high tech, so they don’t keep their same phone numbers and emails, and I don’t have any way of connecting with Stevie. Stevie’s got a big entourage of people that are paid to protect her from strangers, and I would be considered a stranger in their eyes. The last time I talked to Christine, we were good. I produced a record for her in 2005. But I talk to John. I talk to Mick. I wish John a happy birthday every year, so I think I’m fine with everybody.

I’d probably be fine with Lindsey if I ever saw him. But he’s just got so much hatred now with the band for firing him when he’s the one that brought it on himself. He again demanded that they would delay their world tour for a year or a year and a half while he finished his solo record, and his solo records never sell anything. He gave them the ultimatum that he would quit, so the band talked and said, “You know what? Why don’t we just fire you? You’ve pulled that trick one too many times. We don’t care.”

Smashing Interviews Magazine: And along came Neil Finn.

Ken Caillat: Right, and he was the solution.

Smashing Interviews Magazine: So no one thinks Lindsey may rejoin the band in the future after a reconciliation?

Ken Caillat: Well, Lindsey had a heart attack, and they apparently damaged his vocal chords. I don’t know anything, but people I know who are very close to him don’t know whether he’s able to sing anymore. It’s too bad. Lindsey was a very angry man, and I believe he still is. Most of my comments about Lindsey are based on when I knew him.

demanding and angry are two different things. I have no doubt LB is demanding; he's a perfectionist and I'm sure gets short-tempered when things go wrong. Demanding is situational. Angry is a permanent character trait. I don't think he is angry as a permanent trait. I am sure like everyone he can get angry, probably super angry, when the situation warrants it, like, I dunno, your band firing you and lying about it. Maybe that even played a role in his heart attack, WTF knows.

Listen we've heard from many people at the time that LB was not like super-fun party animal guy during the making of Tusk. He was on a mission to make a statement and not everyone was in the same headspace. Kudos to them for letting him take the ball and run with it.

But geez that was literally 40 effing years ago. Nearly HALF A CENTURY AGO. FFS no one is the same exact person they were 40 years ago. It's like Ken's memory is set in amber, frozen in time...... get.over.it.

 you bought it, apparently!

yes, Ken knew Lindsey in 1979. that was 40 years ago. by his own admission, he doesn't know Lindsey now. and yet, he has no qualms about extrapolating the character of somebody now from how they were 40+ years ago, in their 20s, high and out of their minds on drugs, fame, pressure, and intra-band relationship turmoils.

Ken seems to be the bitter and angry one towards the band and its members. and yes various band members may have been bitter, high, angry and driven back in the 70s when they were all in their late 20s or even 30s. that doesn't mean that band members are bitter and angry and whatever else Ken makes up because - by his own admission - he has no contact with them now and no clue how they are now.

actually, Ken replied to me on social media back in April 2018 when he was first spreading band's now debunked 'he didn't want to tour for a year" story that he heard that from someone who works for the band, who was told by Mick. by then, many fans already knew for 3 months what actually happened - and what was later proven as the truth that even the band had to half-cough-up to by the end of their last year's tour. so Ken was told band's PR story while there were a good number of fans that had inside info.

seems pretty certain that fans have way better insider sources than Ken has these days. or fans care to know what the truth is, while Ken is just trying to sell his book by attempting to answer questions thrown at him by trying to pretend that he's still in the know and in contact with the band.

after huge backlash on social media for spreading untruths, Ken has now a facebook post stating that's the trouble with interviews, questions come at you too fast - or something like that.
the thing is, Ken - however fast questions may come at you, making up answers about real people - and in fact making up the whole conversations that never happened - is not the right answer.

half-back on topic of the thread.

reading the lawsuit from last year, it became clear that FM doesn't seem to exist as a legal entity between projects. they come together and sign contracts for specific projects - be that a tour, a gig, or in the past various albums and releases.

which means that at this moment, Fleetwood Mac as a band doesn't legally exist in any formation.

when talking about Fleetwood Mac, you can talk about Peter Green's band, various in-between incarnations, or the most well known Classic Fleetwood Mac - which is what masses are referring to when saying FM. but at present time, there is no present band. Lindsey is not really ex-FM member - or they all are.

Entangling Stevie's personal management as band management as well is a disastrous arrangement for the band. Great for Stevie though! And then for LB to sign on Azoff as his own personal manager
I can only imagine that the strategy behind that was that having him as your manager he has to consider the impact of band business on you as a solo act. But that's an awfully risky strategy considering Azoff's management style of focusing on the bigger $$$ or higher profile clients (i.e., Stevie). Or maybe he though Irving could make them more like the Eagles, i.e. the way LB always says "those other bands who know what they want and want it at the same time" and can come together to make money whether they like each other or not.

The only other logic I can imagine is that LB indeed wanted to boost his ticket sales, marketing, profile in a more mainstream way (seems out of character, but who knows). The two just seem like a bad mix to me either way.

As someone who was pissed off about that at the time, I get it now. They’re not going to ever play as Fleetwood Mac again without Stevie (so long as she and Mick are alive), with the possible exception of Peter Green miraculously returning. Even then, it would be called “Peter Green’s…” to avoid confusion.

I don’t think it’s right, but I at least understand the logic behind it.

And then for LB to sign on Azoff as his own personal manager
It worked so well for Bob Welch, too.

The only other logic I can imagine is that LB indeed wanted to boost his ticket sales, marketing, profile in a more mainstream way (seems out of character, but who knows). The two just seem like a bad mix to me either way.
And then to talk down two festival shows Azoff was heavily invested in and actively promoting...

Irving’s motivation to be the Stevie whisper went out the window, replaced by his instinct to put in well known, popular musicians in already popular bands…

Lindsey wanted Fleetwood Mac to be more like the Eagles. Wish granted!

I NEVER buy into these breakups. I think Lindsey was aware of his heart condition and they all knew he could not do the tour. The 'estrangement' was staged for the press and social, to keep the cash flowing, and Lindsey will be back in the fold.
Just as he did Twister with her in 96 *when they were supposed to be at odds* and he played on IYD *after she was so 'miserable' after the no Christine tours*. It's all PR.
They'll do a farewell tour with the Rumours 5.

I get why you are saying that - but I just can't agree. Not this time. Lindsey toured solo after he was fired for months. There's no way he knew of his heart condition and still did a tour. I get that a LB solo tour of small theaters isn't going to be as hectic as a full on Fleetwood Mac tour, but a solo tour also comes without all of the expenses (fancy planes and best hotels) that a Mac tour does.

He sued them. Not threatened. Actually sued. Papers were filed with the courts and a settlement was agreed to.

This isn't 1996. Or 1997. Or 1987. Hell, it's not even 2014. They are OLD. Their contemporaries are dropping like flies on a regular basis. Time is NOT on any of their sides. Planning some elaborate, hidden, stunt, that needs to have 3-4 years to fully play out....it just isn't in the cards at this point.

After how he was treated, I don't even want another Rumours tour. Not even a big final tour. It will be absolute garbage at this point. Fake hugs and warm glances? Give me a break. What else is there to prove? Nicks won't record anything new with the band, so what is there in another tour (other than the obviou$)? They reunited in 1997 and it was absolutely amazing. Then in 2014, out of the middle of nowhere, they unexpectedly reunited yet again and toured the world. It was unexpected, and it gave people like myself who were fans for decades but were 16 years old and not in attendance at The Dance tour a chance to see the five of them together. It was great...but the performances on stage certainly weren't Dance-era level. But at 33/34 years old, I got that chance and even kind of got a Tango in the Night focused concert with the four cuts. But now? For what? After what has gone on for the last two years, anything further with the five of them would just be downright gross.

I still think we will never have an objective complete info about what happened with those 5. None is telling the complete truth, IMHO.

Smashing Interviews Magazine: And along came Neil Finn.
Ken Caillat: Right, and he was the solution.

Well, it was a practical solution for a tour. But in the end, for the band, that was not a solution at all.

I wish they would do something that would draw me to attend, but I can’t imagine what that would have to be. Maybe if they starred in a stage production of “Uncle Vanya” at South Coast Rep. Yes, come to think of it, I would go to that.

I guess the reconfigured tour served its humble (or not so humble) purpose. Nobody will look back on it in 20 years and say anything other than a straightforwardly descriptive “It happened.” It put “money in the bank but no gas in the tank.”

To me the most interesting thing to witness out of all of the 2018/2019 drama was:

1. Almost instant, blind vilification of Lindsey by a huge chunk of folks who acted as if they were just waiting to have a reason to finally be happy he is out of the band, why that is I don’t really understand.

2. The amplification of all things related to Lindsey’s behavior and events 40 years ago while at the same time ignoring John McVies abusive alcoholism as well as the collective drug and party culture that affected every member of the band. Ken C’s recent remarks about Lindsey having the audacity to work on tusk tracks at home, but failing to mention how Stevie worked on Sara with Tom M. In an all together separate session. The shear amount of double standards and attempts to revise history is pretty shocking by fans and band members.

3. Magically, overnight there were legions of fans who were predominantly fans because of the ‘75 lineup, magically had an affection for every incarnation of the band and then used this as an excuse to feed into Micks “we’ve always had a revolving line up so this is business as usual” defense.

4. There was a time when fans could objectively look at the past knowing what we do know and come to the conclusion that NONE of them were saints on any level. Yet, with the events of 2018/2019 Some fans and folks like Ken C. have decided to paint this picture that everyone else was a saint to work with and it was always Lindsey being the difficult one.

5. Folks love to pour on the love for the Tango In The Night album, but turn a complete blind eye to the fact that big bad Lindsey had to work with Christine McVie to single handedly piece that entire album together with mick the drunk hanging out in a trailer in Lindsey’s driveway and Stevie being almost entirely absent due to her own addiction struggles. But let’s talk about Lindsey backing out of the tour because that’s low hanging fruit and ignore the premise that there wouldn’t of been any tour at all without the darn album. Again, the cherry picking is pretty staggering in this new era to portray Lindsey.

it fits with the larger zeitgeist of polarization. The world has devolved into camps, with no possible in-between. You're either "for" or "against" and once you pick your side, you pick your facts to support the position you've taken. Politics, social culture, whatever it is, everyone nowadays picks a side and ignores anything that doesn't fit that view. Sad. :distress:

Things are almost never so absolutist black and white. They’re gray. Maybe that’s why we all like those jazzy-hippie songs Bob Welch produced with Fleetwood Mac—they adumbrate the complexities of life in sound. Thoughts?

Couldn’t agree more. I have had people attack me for my support of Lindsey saying that his supporters are cult like members. I don’t get how anyone with even an ounce of intelligence cannot see the blatant hypocrisy with both why he was fired by the band ( tour delay of which Nicks is guilty of herself in 2012) as well as the he was difficult or we had come to an impasse when we all know that there have many times other members pulled **** they should have gotten the boot.

I think what it comes down to is that some of the SN fans are so obsessed with her and nothing not even quotes from the horses mouth will change their thinking on how she is perfection and Lindsey is nothing and guilty of everything. It is pointless to argue with them because their minds are made up. One of my friends said I hope they never serve on a jury.

In the interest of not doing what the SN cult does, let's be honest and say neither of the two is a saint. We all know that over the past 50 years the two of them have done sh&tty things to each other...so yeah he surely has done stuff to piss her off JUST AS she's done plenty of things to piss him off. THAT is what so f'ed up about all this.... the worst of that stuff was years ago when they both really engaged in things that set the other one off. After all these years they developed a system for dealing with it all which was basically never talking to each other, not staying in same hotels, having an entourage around Stevie that kept everyone away from her, sending Karen over to deal with Lindsey banging on the dressing room wall because her music was too loud, etc. Then go onstage, pretend (she being the biggest promoter of this) and then leave in separate SUVs to separate hotels and never interact.

All of which circles back and undermines the Chiff logic about what went on for her to insist on his firing. Because she was only having to deal with him for like 4 hours a day at best. And what new behavior could be worse than any of either of their past behavior?? He ranted about why Rhiannon was played at MusicCares?? Like, really???

I don't like how Lindsey was treated and would never support this new "Fleetwood Mac" but this is BS. Lindsey has done plenty to deserve her cold behavior.

I've seen the MusicCares video and he mocked her while she was speaking, going as far to make the jerking off motion. It's clear as day. Enough to be booted from the band? No, but childish and disrespectful.

Before I'm labeled as a Stevie cultist, I think she has done plenty herself and she is no innocent victim. I'm one of the people in the grey area.

I do laugh when people call Stevie fans cultists when so many Lindsey fans here continue to spend countless hours posting the same pro-Lindsey, anti-Stevie arguments in every thread, coming into Stevie threads and hijacking them to talk about Lindsey. Trying to buddy up to Lindsey's wife on Twitter. It's creepy. And it completely destroyed what was once a great discussion board.

well, now, let's not cherry pick our facts.

Did you watch the video? If so, you would have seen that Mick AND Christine made faces, smirked, rolled their eyes and then STARTED WALTZING while Stevie spoke. It was after they began dancing that LB jokingly gestured to John that the two of them could dance as well.

Funny how no one calls out MICK or CHRIS's behavior in this, just Lindsey's. That's the exact sort of bias that comes from the SN tribe (of which I was a member for DECADES).

If Lindsey's behavior during her speech merits actually firing from the band, Mick and Christine should be right out on the sidewalk with him. They aren't. So why is that????

It obviously was not just the Musicares incident. It was probably the last straw after decades of stuff. Most of which may look like nothing, but Stevie, with her obvious issues (borderline personality or whatever), will probably always overreact to just about anything.

Agree with all of this. Lindsey wasn't and will never be a saint. But what about talking like adults (like Lindsey wanted to since Azoff told him Stevie didn't want to be on the same stage with him ever again)?

This is what I pointed out when someone brought up Neil Young and CSNY. When he had a problem with Crosby over drug use, and felt he couldn't work with him anymore, Neil was far and away the biggest star in the group. He could easily have lobbied the others to kick out Crosby (who was becoming increasingly difficult and decreasingly creative).

Instead, Neil quit and let the others carry on without him for ten years until Crosby got clean. In so doing Neil may have left a lot of money on the table (the next two CSN albums were smash hits), but he didn't plot behind anyone's back to get someone fired. He left himself.

He left himself.

exactly.

although i initially listened to the voices saying she wanted to do that and Mick made her stay to make sure his pockets are filled as much as possible, after seeing all the happenings from the last 2 years, i don't blame it so singularly on Mick anymore. she's not the victim, she's a perpetrator. like someone said, her obsession with "haunting Lindsey forever" (after dumping him?!) was initially expressed back in 1976 with Silver Springs, and sadly for her it never went away.

With all due respect, I think from the Twitter interaction we've had it's evident that she and I have become buddies. I'd tell you how many Tweets of mine she's liked, but I'm afraid it would just come off as bragging.

The same could be said of those who are friends with Lindsey's Ex Carol, Ken, Richard etc or anyone else who has or had anything to do with FM and or SN. They hang on every word and stir the **** anytime one of them posts something that is anti Lindsey or about FM.

As for your comments about destroying a great discussion board what is their to discuss? The band is the one who keeps trashing Lindsey every chance they get. Exactly. Why should we "move on" or "let it go" when Mick keeps trashing Lindsey at every opportunity he has or Stevie keeps mentioning him like they were best buddies? My God, I still don't get it!

As for KB, many so-called Lindsey's fans don't agree with her behavior during Lindsey's firing, so it's not like everybody likes her. Granted, those are all the shippers who think she's the reason Stevie was "forced" to give that ultimatum to Mick, when in fact she's in love with him and of course he's also still in love with her..... :]:]:]:]

I can get the shipper part. What I can't get is the hate towards someone who took good care of Lindsey when his bandametes gave him the cold shoulder. Just because master Stevie says so.

1. Almost instant, blind vilification of Lindsey by a huge chunk of folks who acted as if they were just waiting to have a reason to finally be happy he is out of the band, why that is I don’t really understand.
It wasn’t a matter of being happy, but between the Stevie-Lindsey love-hate relationship being beaten into the ground as the band’s defining storyline and the growing reliance on prerecords, I welcomed the change, and I was happy that they brought in respectable musicians. Anyway, we got to hear Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham rarities live in 2018 that might not have happened without the split.

That said, it seemed like he stopped trying to appease Stevie and stopped playing along with the Stevie-Lindsey storyline after Christine returned. He also seemed to have a chip on his shoulder during the Classic shows and promotions. It’s like he forgot or maybe never realized that there’s no such thing as an equal partnership in a band where one member has sold 30 million albums independent of the band and is considered an icon.

2. The amplification of all things related to Lindsey’s behavior and events 40 years ago while at the same time ignoring John McVies abusive alcoholism as well as the collective drug and party culture that affected every member of the band.
I agree, however John’s alcoholism didn’t have long term implications on the band’s ability to function. John and Christine were able to move on from it and continued to have a great working relationship as well as a good friendship.

Ken C’s recent remarks about Lindsey having the audacity to work on tusk tracks at home, but failing to mention how Stevie worked on Sara with Tom M. In an all together separate session. The shear amount of double standards and attempts to revise history is pretty shocking by fans and band members.
Not the same thing at all. After the 1975 album, the writers would separately go into studios to flush out demos. For example, John worked out the bass line on “Love Will Show Us How” during the demo sessions for Christine’s 1984 album, even though he didn’t play on the album. That’s what Stevie was doing with Tom. Lindsey was recording final album tracks at home, which is what Ken and some within the band (notably John) objected to.

3. Magically, overnight there were legions of fans who were predominantly fans because of the ‘75 lineup, magically had an affection for every incarnation of the band and then used this as an excuse to feed into Micks “we’ve always had a revolving line up so this is business as usual” defense.
I can’t speak to this, since I have always been a fan of the band as a whole. However, I remember reading lots of comments over the years, especially starting in 2009, that people were tired of the stale setlists and were going to skip shows because there was nothing new. And, while there were deep cuts in the 2018 tour, they weren’t so deep that people who were predominantly fans of the classic lineup wouldn’t have heard.

Mick, Christine, Stevie, and Ken have all sung his praises, too. Lindsey was the one who pushed the hardest in the studio, he’s the one who had the creative vision. However, I think he had difficulties compromising, and I suspect that played a part in his dismissal.

Did you watch the video? If so, you would have seen that Mick AND Christine made faces, smirked, rolled their eyes and then STARTED WALTZING while Stevie spoke. It was after they began dancing that LB jokingly gestured to John that the two of them could dance as well.
Stevie has very different relationships with Christine and Mick than she does with Lindsey, and for all we know, they might have gotten heat for it, too.

This is true, and perhaps he did forget it. But I think he was aware of it broadly, as in interviews he would reference (and not negatively) band politics, which he acknowledged were there and should be there. I always took this to mean he understood Stevie had more power. I think he just underestimated how much more, and misjudged how readily–and to what end–she was prepared to exercise it.

Can I just point out though that Mick has gone against Stevie? It was in 2012 before Chris came back, and he literally was the biggest drama queen and wondered whether FM would ever tour again. This was not even 6 months after her mom died. Let's not pretend Mick has any actual friendship or loyalty to Stevie more than he does to Lindsey. If Lindsey was the moneymaker? His friendship to stevie would be easily tossed aside. He has zero backbone

Maybe. It just seems like Mick and Stevie seem to meet up in Europe during vacations an awful lot, and Stevie has said that she and Mick are the type of friends who watch movies together or something like that. I don’t think Lindsey has the type of personality that lends itself to having that type of friendship with anyone. I don’t mean that as a criticism, it’s part of what makes him a genius at what he does.

Mick and Stevie are (or were?) one of the closest friendships in the band. They socialized together over the years. Mick was always backstage after a show or at the Supper Club at the Forum after a Stevie Nicks concert in LA. They towed around together in the late ’70s and ’80s a lot. They went to awards shows together, they did interviews together, they stayed at each other’s houses, and Mick even camp-followed the Stevie Nicks Southern California tour in 1986. It was a really close friendship—and might still be today, I don’t know.

Of course that’s not to say that he wouldn’t throw her under a bus for three quid.

Agreed. I think the ongoing discussion is also valid because it feels as if we are still missing important pieces of the puzzle here. Things still do not totally add up and for some reason *both* sides have only addressed everything with very vague and elusive explanations yet there have been really no concrete details as to exactly what happened. It seems to me everyone continues to tiptoe around the truth and it's becoming more and more frustrating as a fan to not be able to understand what really happened.

I didn't say you can't discuss it. I said people here (a handful) have destroyed the entire discussion board with insults, misogynist comments, etc. It's impossible to have a discussion about a recent Stevie Nicks concert without those who haven't nothing better to do than come in, change the subject, and ruin the thread.

I've been on this board for 15 years regardless of what it says on my profile and what used to be a place for interesting discussions about the band and a variety of topics, and a place to find/maintain friendships is now a dump and there are people beyond the band to blame for that. They should be ashamed of themselves for allowing their ego, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and bitterness to destroy enjoyment for others.

oh i do blame Mick. if his job is to keep the band together he miserably failed and helped the band's fracture.

Stevie and Lindsey have been fighting since before they joined Fleetwood Mac. if Mick was doing his job he would have found the way to mediate, instead of bowing down to drama queen's demands and immediately running to promoters. they did NOT have the tour booked. there was no gun to his head. he could have taken some time and wait till chiff queen blows out her steam and comes back to negotiate. or starts "loving" Lindsey again (whatever that means because that woman doesn't seem to know what love really is).

I do agree he could have taken his time and let things die down. But, I suspect the Goat's Mgmt went to the promoters and blew things up that even Mick couldn't do damage control. Which forced him to start lying for Goat and tow the company line.

This is really interesting. It's a very possible theory. So, starting with the premise that Mick loves money. Stevie is $tevie (so I understand she loves money too). But Mick supposedly does his job, trying to keep the band together (but loves money above all things, right?). Question, do you guys think that, if some big corporation, or millionaire, offers Mick TONS of money, (and of course offers the whole band) to go again on tour (Rumours lineup of course), do you think he could find the way to mediate, and convince the band to reunite and go on the road?

That hasn’t been Mick’s job since 1980. That was Irving’s job. Mick plays drums and keeps the band going. Maybe don’t take a passive aggressive dump on Irving’s big show and he’ll continue doing his job.

Back to this idee fixe. Who cares about a corporate jerkoff like Azoff? Lindsey's attitude to those shows was the correct one. Azoff is the prototypical sleazy promoter/music exec making millions off other people's work. If it wasn't for Lindsey and bands like FM making music, what would Azoff promote? I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would take the promoter's side. Bowing to corporate interests is actually what artists should do...right.

I've never seen anything really good come out of Azoff's involvement, and his role in Ticketmaster/Live Nation tells you everything you need to know about Azoff. So not hard to side against him about anything. He ain't exactly David Geffen.

And I do agree that Azoff had a lot to do with Lindsey's firing. But that shows what a sleazeball he is. He's a band wrecker.

This is exactly how I feel. I think sleezy Nicks took it out of the band's hands and went right for the the jugular. I'm willing to bet Mick had a gun to his head.

Just because he's a mod, doesn't mean that he's not a fan(WHY would anyone mod who's not a fan), and doesn't have an opinion. He's allowed that. So settle TF down.

Awww, thanks Homer. You put a smile on my face. I'm very much a fan. But, I've got thick skin. Until our admin. tells me to cool it, (and she has once or twice) I'm going to voice my opinion. If I wasn't a fan, I might just go along with everything mgmt. does. LIke my brother does with the Cleveland Browns. **

I do agree he could have taken his time and let things die down. But, I suspect the Goat's Mgmt went to the promoters and blew things up that even Mick couldn't do damage control. Which forced him to start lying for Goat and tow the company line.

I agree this is exactly what happened. Mick was probably willing to try and mend things between Lindsey and Stevie. But Goat was determined to get rid of Lindsey. And this time it had to be final.:nod:

Even though I blame both Stevie and Mick, I don't blame him equally. I strogly believe we wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for Stevie. Mick was just a tool. But, hey, I understand it's maybe easier to believe Mick's lies in order to allow yourserlf to love Stevie again....

Re-reading his quote tells me that he might be being sarcastic. Meaning he'd love to record a FM record but the likelihood of that happening would be equal to SN releasing her Rhiannon film.

And we all know that's never going to happen.

i like how you give a touring contractor props for shooting his chances down. but a full fledged band member who has crafted their sound and wrote and sang their biggest hit? nah, that guy should just appease the lowest common denominator, according to you.

Mike's actual quote re: FM and Stevie:

Interviewer: I would like to ask, if you're ok with it, one about Fleetwood too, because that's sort of your other life right now. Is the future of FM in live music only?

Mike: That's a good question! Coz when I first got the call from Mick, and he said 'You're in the band, you know, if you want to be. This is not an audition'. And I said 'Ok great.' Well...I..I thought about it for a day and called him back and said 'yeah, I'm in'. I said, 'You know, it starts with the songs'. I assumed we were gonna make a record first. And he goes 'oh well we've got these tour commitments' -- which ended up being a year and a half! (laughs) And.. so... we had a meeting at the end of the tour, and they all decided that uh..they don't really want to do any more looong tours like that again, but they're open to doing a handful of gigs if they come up. And nobody really mentioned recording... I mean, I would love...with Neil Finn and me and that band we could make a great record, and if they want to do it I'm up for it.

[Interviewer mentions FM history of bringing in new guitarists and styles, etc]
Mike: The greatest rhythm section. You know, if you think about it they're the longest lasting rock and roll rhythm section still together. And.. it was a joy playing with them every night, they're just amazing. So we'll see. I mean I would love to record with them, but I don't know where their heads are at exactly on that, but... we'll wait and see.

Interviewer: You cowrote a lot of songs with Stevie too for some of her solo stuff. Do you all ever talk about bringing that stuff out?

Mike: uh... it's funny I found a track the other day that I forgot we had done. It was really good and I sent it to her and said, you know, 'you should check this out'. I haven't heard back yet (laughs). But...you know, she's real busy, she wants to do a film, about Rhiannon, she's got some tour dates, and...she wants to, you know, do that for a year, year and a half, so... everybody else can do other things for now.

I stand by my position that the motivating factor for Lindsey's firing was Stevie's chance to drag Mike Campbell around as
A. Some kind of ghoulish tribute to Tom Petty
B. An opportunity to hook Mike up with a financial windfall and chance to be a rock star again
C. Her chance to pretend to be the lead singer of The Heartbreakers
Since he made this evil pact, I hope he enjoys doing "other things for now," which translates to sitting around waiting to be a bit player in Stevie's life instead of the star of his own.

Sorry. Still not over it.

Power play? It’s a rock band. The three who didn’t take 16 years off got kind if sick of dealing with him and there were other critically acclaimed artists available. We could debate a laundry list of factors ad nauseam for the millionth time, but it’s ultimately that simple.

Does it really need to be that complicated?

Even Richard Dashut told that story of meeting Stevie in 2017 at one of her concerts after a long time of not seeing each other, and Richard explaining to her how he had spent the last 30 years trying to forget them (or something like that), and then Stevie proceed to tell him one of the strangest answers ever: "Don't you understand?! Eh, I don't necessarily view that scene in particular as faux shipping or a stage act, I genuinely believe Lindsey wanted to make amends creatively as he admires, and probably still does, her writing talent. As much as he may hate her personally I still believe he loved the creative body of work they produced as a duo and think that is what he wanted back; a non-hostile and beneficial working relationship.

You can see it in her face. Stevie is many things but a talented actress she is not. You can clearly tell her feelings during that doc and they are all over the place. It's when Lindsey becomes 'the Producer' and 'the Artsy take risks' guy that he wrecks her nerves.

I agree that he was always honoring their body of work.

The hand holding and kissing was completely disrespectful to his WIFE, huge paycheck or not. Disrespectful on both their parts.

Indeed. I believe she let her ego run wild. What he probably only thought was constant constructive criticism, wanting to bring out the very best of her work, she probably took as a complete and utter sign of disrespect. That and his need to always push boundaries what with experimental sounds, outward thinking when she always plays it relatively safe so to speak. Just wasn't a match in the end. Just a shame she couldn't hold out for one more farewell tour then pack it up and leave, all of them for that matter. We all know the band is over anyway. I think she would get around to feeling remorse if those yes men / women vanished. But that will never happen. They let her off wiyh no consequences, no realty and truth telling. It definitely does not help that her mom was clearly some sort of mental anchor for her and since shes been gone, Stevie's inner diva is wild and free with no one to reign it in and ground her in reality. Lindsey clearly found that for himself in his wife and kids. At the end of the day, if all the fame and riches were gone, I bet Lindsey would still have her back despite having moved on from the relationship. And you can’t say he was doing it for show, because no one goes to a Fleetwood Mac concert looking at the bond between Christine and Lindsey.

Also, he was upset that Christine was leaving for purely mercenary reasons too. They wanted to capitalize on the reunion momentum and her leaving put an end to that.

I mean a lot of the time, if he was not at his mic singing, if he was away from his mic playing, he would just be staring right at her for a good duration of the concert.

He had 3 million negative things to say in those SYW interviews, especially. I wanted to kill him. 33% more room! But we all remember that Christine also knocked him after the Tango exit.

His comments about the more masculine sound always killed me. As if Lindsey suddenly could make Fleetwood Mac into Metallica

90% of the time Chris sounded more masculine than Lindsey!

Come was pretty close. No wonder I hate that song! (I HATE heavy metal)

I'd rather fight Lindsey than Christine(well, back when they were young).

Haha, Come is NOT heavy metal! I like the song live but the album version was meh.

And Christine pre 1997 could kick a grown man's ass without a doubt and be tougher than Buck. Less so since her return.

Come sucks! There, I said it. I'd call the guitar hard rock. And the screaming.
For the millionth time, I was gifted the deluxe SYW because my cousin's roommate bought it, and HATED Come, and gave it to me. "This doesn't sound like FM!". Indeed. Come sucks!!!

Christine is an old lady now. She lost her spine in some sort of accident.

I had my AC/DC phase in life. I do lighting regularly for a hard rock band(wearing ear plugs!). I still like it, BUT....

I'm really a melody/harmony addict. I like pleasing sounds. Probably the reason Christine used to be my favorite. She has a soothing voice.

I HATE to be yelled at. Roger Daltry SUCKS(wasn't it Keef who said he sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard?)! Don't yell at me! Sing to me. Make me relax. I'm a hyper person anyway, so I want music to relax me.

BTW, Storms is my least favorite song(by FAR) on Tusk. It's too relaxing. More like a coma. So I don't have that in common with $tevie.

AC/DC and Metallica are my favorite metal bands. I love it exactly for the same reasons you don't like it: I'm also a hyper person but I love to be one. I'm not a person searching for relax. And I love to get crazy and have fun moving my head with heavy metal :]:]:]

Heavy metal guitar solos are perfect. Just perfect.

Love the lyrics on Storms. The melody totally sucks. Too whiny. Too…. $tevie.

Well, it depends on the time of day, or situation. I've sometimes been fond of things that $tevie has been fond of in the past. :wavey:
Seriously though, shutting down my brain at the end of the day is a huge task. Listening to metal late night would keep me up until dawn(actually, when I do lighting for the metal band, I have an impossible time going to sleep those nights).

The best guitar solos are country "chicken pickin'". I work on perfecting playing those daily.

At least we agree that $tevie is too $tevie. A little bit is too much!

When he said that, all I could think is “Walk A Thin Line” was more masculine than “Think About Me?”

There’s not a bad song on that album! They were all at the top of their games.

Never Make Me Cry??

I was hoping they would have done an acoustic version of this on the LBCM tour. Just Christine singing with Lindsey on guitar.

That would have been epic. I played that song for a non-FM fan. And he said, "Wow! Now, that's a beautiful song."
