There is so much going on here.

SOL from Lindsey - he looks tanned and healthy as ever

The song choice - some have called it magnanimous (indeed, this song is Stevie AND Lindsey's contribution to world culture), but I can't help but read it in many ways -- about Stevie's betrayal, about Lindsey's hurt and also love, about the ties that will always bind them

Think about it: Lindsey and Stevie created things that people perform at graduations!!! -- THIS IS WHAT STEVIE JUST THREW OUT LIKE GARBAGE!

And Lindsey is able to perform them at said graduation with his children (something Stevie will never be able to do, something I will never be able to do)

Lindsey's daughter sounds beautiful here (I have missed hearing this song in a youthful register)

That high-five was like ... the kind of two-way generational pride and affirmation I usually only attribute to, like, athletes

What a beautiful moment. There's something very poetic about this... coming back from heart surgery... playing that song with his daughter singing... the same song written and sung by the person who ousted him from the band that made the song famous...

I want him to continue to make music and perform live but I will be perfectly fine if all we ever get from now on are pictures and short video clips of him enjoying life with his family, playing music and being happy.

I'm not surprised they did Landslide. Leelee was a big fan of Stevie. You can't just dislike her in one day. I was never her fan and I can only imagine what it must be like to be dissappointed by the person you admired your whole life. :(

And yet, they chose Landslide. And Lindsey agreed to play it.

It gets harder and harder to be Stevie these days.....

He's alive and enjoying every moment with his family. :woohoo::woohoo: He needs to stay healthy. We will hear from him when he's ready. This is big news!!!! :)

One would hope.

I might be projecting my own feelings onto LeeLee, but I think that it wasn’t remnant admiration for Stevie that caused her to sing that song. I think it was a case of pride, a show of “when they go low, we go high.” They have risen above the backstabbing.

Those people not only fired and hurt him they have tried to humiliate him. They can’t.

Also, Bombay Sapphires do you remember how you remarked on how Stevie goes through the same phony Landslide looks and gestures with any guitarist now?

I watch this graduation video and think, “you need to find a Greyhound bus and take a ride BACK to Aspen, lady.”

Rick: You played it for her, you can play it for me!
Sam: Well, I don't think I can remember...
Rick: If she can stand it, I can! Play it!

He looks great. The high 5 between Lindsey and LeeLee was beautiful. The song speaks to changes in life, like kids graduating from HS and moving on to the next phase of their life. I love the notion of "we go high" something LB has done since this whole fiasco began. I hope the band saw this video today, and saw how fantastic Lindsey looks, how beautifully he played the song the Stevie wrote for HIM, how loved Lindsey is, how proud Lindsey is of his daughter, and how he's better off than the Rumours 4. I am hopeful we will hear more and see more of LB...but most importantly, I am so happy he's healthy.

That was so beautiful and touching. It felt like a brief glimpse into their family life, and an affirmation that he's OK. Thank goodness. It made me tear up, how he turned his head slightly to listen to Leelee, and how she high 5'd him, and how he hugged the choir leader at the end. He looks so good, so normal and thank God he was attending his daughter's graduation. So happy he was better so he could be part of it.

(ps. The fan in me would faint if that was my child's grad and Lindsey was playing guitar at it!!!! I would be so paralyzed with excitement, that I may drool or something very embarassing)

The high five is great and it reminds me of how he’s always been a little with them. There was an old moment on one of his videos I think, they were in the kitchen. I am not sure if Leelee was there. She might have been sitting on the kitchen counter, almost a toddler and Kristen was feeding her. I can’t remember, but wee Will was in front of the kitchen cupboards and Lindsey came at him with a goofy smile on his face, poking, grabbing, playful and happy. That’s what the high five made me think about. Rejuvenated.

Oh, I'm sure they all watched it, and I also hope they felt some form of shame for what they did to him. Well, not Stevie, but at least the rest of them. Stevie already said he was gonna be fine because he HAS to! Whatever that means in her own twisted and lonely world.

Waiting for the people to swoop in and say, “He looks healthy. Now maybe you can FINALLY get over it.” Nope. I will never get over it.

This doesn't change what they did. If anything her fans should be grateful he seems fine, because if anything worse would have happened to Lindsey because of what Stevie did, then they would certainly know what a bunch of angry fans can do.

I also hope Lindsey never get over it.

I could not agree more. It scares me, worries me, and makes me sick to think of it. To treat someone like a piece of disposable furniture. In 2 years some sort of reunion show?
Even the new guys would get reminded they were never real members. Just a suit and guitar on stage to get through the next stage.

I vote NO

I admire LeeLee’s poise. What composure for one so young. She may have teared up. It looks like the first video stopped before that might have happened. She may have lost a few words. I can’t be sure. But lovely reserve. How proud he must be of those girls.

Although, if the oldest kid is laying on the floor smoking pot with his friends, that might turn out ok too!

seriously, you apparently do not, trying to find or make up a negative out of something completely amazing.

he was behaving extremely humbly, as just an accompanist to the choir in the school full of celebrity kids. if you ever saw any chorus or orchestra concert in any MS or HS, it would look just like this, and accompanist would actually take a bow at the end, he didn't even do that.

I am happy that Lindsey is back! However, what a way to hijack graduation for every other kid in the school. And to do it with Stevie's song is bizarre. I don't get these people.

If you took the time to watch the vid closely you will see all the other girls around Leelee were smiling, so I don't know where you get the idea that they were not happy.

And yes, they're a bizarre group. Starting with Stevie kicking Lindsey out of the band without a valid reason. :wavey:

seriously, you apparently do not, trying to find or make up a negative out of something completely amazing.

he was behaving extremely humbly, as just an accompanist to the choir in the school full of celebrity kids. if you ever saw any chorus or orchestra concert in any MS or HS, it would look just like this, and accompanist would actually take a bow at the end, he didn't even do that.

I didn't say anything negative. I said it was bizarre. As a teacher, I've watched many moving up/stepping up/graduation ceremonies focused on one or two students because of a parent who chose to make it about him or her and the child. It should be about all of the students. Don't pretend like it's something else and don't come at me for calling it out.

I don’t think it was focused on one or two students. We only saw the very short clip starting just before LeeLee. They seemed to be going in sequence. I take it that several students performed before she did and a couple after her as well.

Why you would assume a short clip taken by one student’s Mother from a song that went on for 4-5 minutes means they hijacked the ceremony is beyond me.

exactly. usually there are about 10 compositions being done, with different soloists, and sometimes different instrumental accompaniment, like it seems to have been in this case. other parents were i'm sure focusing on their own kids and recording them, same as KB was recording her own child and husband. it's very possible other parents didn't even notice who was Leelee's dad and that it's his band's song, about him, and that he played his own guitar parts on it. but it was obviously a HUGE and healing deal for Buckingham family, and huge deal for fans of LB and FM. and i'm sure for Leelee's friends who probably knew her dad almost died 3 months ago, and how happy she was to be able to get him there, accompany them, alive and getting better.

some people, sadly for them, seem to project their own problems and experiences on everyone else, somehow seeing negative no matter how beautiful what's happening may be.

there were threads on these boards about negativity recently and it was so great to be away, in some other much healthier fandoms in the last few months. and forget how much negativity some FM and especially SN fans tend to bring in on every single occasion, no matter how inappropriate or nonsensical.

This is not a graduation ceremony lol. It's probably a choir showcase that likely had various song performances (assuming they're anything like the majority of high school choir showcases, my own included). So it's perfectly normal that a student would have a certain solo during a certain song. Other girls probably had other solos during other songs. That's how choir works lol.

Haters are gonna hate no matter what. I doubt Leelee Picked the song herself. I am sure it was some combination of the choir director and the other seniors. In one of the videos, you could see another kid had a solo.
It was a proud night for the Buckingham family and a great update for Lindsey’s fans.

I think it's a sweet affirming moment for the young women graduating.

I also think it's a subtle kiss-off insofar as LB is saying "Your song is partially my song. I helped craft it and bring it to fruition, and so I can play it wherever I like."

I have no problem with that message. If FM can do GYOW and SHN in concert every night without a hint of irony and full entitlement, then he can do this.

Last night was epic. First time I’ve seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career.

Maybe she just means as the school year draws to a close? That comment is probably why someone thought it was a graduation. I thought the same thing. It is certainly the right time of year for them. Lindsey looks very good, glad to see he is out and about again and enjoying a special time with family.

yes, Landslide is in the popular vernacular now, it's been covered and was a big hit by another group (Dixie Chicks) and a LOT of people know if from THEIR version, in fact there are clear elements of their performance of it in this version even in the little snippet we saw. It would be interesting to know what other songs they might have also done. Clearly Landslide deals with changes in life, growing up ("children get older" is appropriate in a graduation situation) and moving on to new things in life. It's message was appropriate. On top of that, one of the key architects of that song is a parent in that school.

No matter how much Stevie wants to imitate the visuals of The Dance version of that song with any guitarist who comes along (currently Neil Finn, who stands just where and how LB did) the reality is, the visual INCLUDES LINDSEY just as much as her. So yeah, he has every legitimate right to re-enact HIS role in that song as the guitarist (Notice he stood in relatively the same position as he did with Stevie) providing all the musical accompaniment and talent with any singer he wants. She can mimic it with any other guitarist, he can re-enact it with any other singer. The difference is, the song took on a whole NEW meaning in this case, what with his daughter part of it and her growing up and becoming an adult embarking on the next chapter in her life, as are her classmates.

When SN performs it it's trying to recapture her performance with LB; his performance of it here (ONE time, people) has NOTHING to do with SN and everything to do with HIM, his kids growing up, his survival to be here to share it with them. It's not another tired retread.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what she means. It's very obvious that it isn't a graduation considering it looks nothing like graduation lol. No cap and gowns, no mass amount of students on a large field etc. What it does look like is a choir performance.

Them doing the song reminds me of John on the Best Buy CD. Molly was in school and he said the students all wanted to do Rhiannon at their performances, the loooong version.

In this case, I would guess LeeLee's choice was given preference here. When her Instagram wasn't blocked, you could see that she's known many of her friends since grade school, not just high school. These kids know more about Lindsey and FM than other kids their age do. A lot of them probably got free tickets to the solo and FM concerts. They know he was fired and probably wouldn't have suggested Landslide themselves, out of consideration for LeeLee and her family, but she let them know it was ok. My guess.

When I was in school, all the students wanted to do David Bowie's Changes. They wore that song out so much that you never wanted to hear it again.

This is life right here... it's so beautiful to see. These moments cannot be duplicated or substituted, cannot be replaced or recreated. A priceless moment in time which both father and daughter will remember forever (and mom, too, from the sound of it). No amount of money, fans cheering in an arena, or awards can replicate something like this. And it's something Stevie can never understand.

THIS is life. And I'm so thrilled he looks healthy and is here to enjoy this special, pivotal time with his family as Leelee closes this chapter in her life and begins a new one. Beautiful.

(We had days if not weeks of events leading up to my high school graduation. Numerous occasions for a chorale to sing. I assume this is one of many for Leelee's class, as well.)

Lindsey Buckingham Plays Guitar for First Time Post-Surgery, as Daughter Sings ‘Landslide’ (Watch)

Lindsey Buckingham has performed publicly for this first time since his open-heart surgery nearly four months ago, playing guitar to accompany his high-school daughter and her graduating class on their rendition of a classic Fleetwood Mac hit.

“Last night was epic,” tweeted Buckingham’s wife, Kristen Buckingham, who suggested that this might have been his first private performance since the surgery, too. “First time I’ve seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career. AND she sings a little ‘Landslide’ with her dad. I cried, I’ll admit it. Never know what’s ahead so enjoy the moment…”

She shared a video clip of the performance on Instagram.

That the song they performed was not one of his compositions, but one by Stevie Nicks was seen by some fans as possible evidence of a growing spirit of forgiveness between estranged former bandmates. But it could just as easily be a nod to Buckingham’s contributions to the song, or an indication that high school chorales naturally gravitate to “Landslide” more than, say, “I’m So Afraid.”

An earlier Instagram post from Kristen Buckingham showed Leelee posing in a USC shirt, indicating that their daughter may be in for a lot of marching band versions of “Tusk” over the next four years.

Left unaddressed by the instrumental performance is the state of Buckingham’s voice, first raised by his wife in a statement following the surgery in early February. At that time, she said, “While he and his heart are doing well, the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.” Later in that month, she added, “Considering the massively invasive surgery, he is doing really well. Each day things get a little easier, but it is a slow process and sometimes a frustrating one.”

Kristen Buckingham has not re-addressed the subject of Lindsey’s vocal cord damage since — although she has responded to updated accounts of the split between Buckingham and the rest of the group in 2018, and how it reportedly came down to a he-goes-or-I-go ultimatum from Nicks following perceived friction at a MusiCares tribute dinner at the beginning of that year.

“They were together at MusiCares and got along great,” Kristen Buckingham wrote in response to fan inquiries in March. “She has never spoken to him since and he has reached out repeatedly with no response. I guess she decided she didn’t like him anymore? Any conversation would have been nice. Reminds me of being really young and immature. When I wanted out of a relationship, for no real reason, I looked for and found some excuse to make it easy for me to break up instead of facing the truth. The ugly truth that I was just ****ty. Girls, you know this move right?” She also directly addressed Mick Fleetwood: “You are so busy telling the world how ‘unhappy’ the band was. It would have been nice if you told Lindsey that. He’s still wondering what happened. You are a dishonest coward and I have zero respect for you. That goes for all of you FM, you really suck.”

Back in February, Kristen shared a photo of herself with Lindsey in recovery after surgery, writing, “Our family thought it important to share what’s happening with Lindsey with the hope that inspires someone else to seek preventative care. Lindsey’s family has a history of heart issues, having lost both his father at 56 and his brother at 46 to heart related illness. If anyone is experiencing even the mildest of symptoms we encourage you to seek the care of a physician. We are so thankful for the kind and generous love given by the people surrounding Lindsey, me and our kids throughout this emotional time.”

Kristen had also taken to social media in recent months to offer their family’s support to another rocker who found himself in something of the same boat. “Wishing @MickJagger a speedy recovery!” she tweeted.

Your absolutely right Kristen. Thier behavior towards Lindsey & others has been nothing short of being morally & ethically bankrupt! Remember JC, Judy Wong and most recently Wayne Cody? These people lived their lives for that band and definetely helped them succeed. I loved Fleetwood Mac, being on the Tusk Tour, but yeah Kristen your right, these self centered egomaniacs Suck a Big One! John & Chris, I’m still in dismay over your non public reaction to Wayno. Lindsey’s wife has been nothing short of a miracle for him. Your comment about her needing to grow up has no basis in fact. Why should she continue to tiptoe around the dysfunctional members of the group after what they did to her husband? Seems more and more that people prefer to remain silent and accept BS than rightfully call out those who freely dispense it.

And good for Kristen for shining a light on the truth – something this current version of Fleetwood Mac has had a hard time with over the past year. Watch Lindsey Buckingham Perform for First Time Since Heart Surgery

Lindsey Buckingham, the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist who underwent open heart surgery earlier this year, made his first public appearance since the procedure over the weekend at his daughter Leelee’s high school graduation ceremony. Buckingham performed Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” on acoustic guitar while students from his daughter’s school sang the 1975 classic.

“Last night was epic,” his wife Kristen Buckingham tweeted. “First time I’ve seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career. AND she sings a little ‘Landslide’ with her dad. I cried, I’ll admit it. Never know what’s ahead so enjoy the moment…”

In early February, Buckingham announced that her husband underwent emergency open heart surgery. “He is now recuperating at home each day he is stronger than the last,” Kristen Buckingham said in a statement at the time. “While he and his heart are doing well, the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. It us unclear if this damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.”

Last year, Fleetwood Mac parted ways with Buckingham shortly before announcing a world tour, replacing him with Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House. The band said the main issue was a disagreement over the timing of the tour. “We arrived at the impasse of hitting a brick wall,” Mick Fleetwood told Rolling Stone. “This was not a happy situation for us in terms of the logistics of a functioning band. To that purpose, we made a decision that we could not go on with him. Majority rules in term of what we need to do as a band and go forward.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone later in the year, Buckingham said he was told by band manager Irving Azoff that Stevie Nicks never wanted to perform with him again and wouldn’t agree to a tour unless he wasn’t a part of it. “I don’t think there was ever anything that was just cause to be fired,” Buckingham said. “We have all done things that were not constructive. All of us have worn on each other’s psyches at times. That’s the history of the group.”

He sued the band for wrongful dismissal and other charges, but it was settled out of court. The group. meanwhile, had a successful tour until they had to postpone the last few dates on their American tour in April so Nicks could recover from an illness. They are set to resume the tour on June 6th in Berlin and stay on the road until mid-November.

Buckingham has kept a low profile since the heart attack, but Kristen Buckingham has repeatedly taken to Twitter to blast his former Fleetwood Mac bandmates. “I don’t want to think about the band anymore,” she wrote on April 4th. “They are awful people, void of conscience and aren’t worth my time or energy. People can think whatever they want, I know the truth and that’s that.”

Now that Lindsey is back in playing shape, the big question is the state of his singing voice. Some singers have suffered permanent vocal cord damage when tubes were inserted into their throats during surgeries, while others have ultimately recovered with no noticeable traces of trauma.

oh dear, I hope the rumors that he can't speak at all are not true :distress:

For someone who so likes to articulate his thoughts the way LB does this would have to be particularly frustrating....

I have to say when I watched him on the school video, the way he approached the chorale director to shake hands/hug, I was surprised not so much that he didn't speak (given what we knew about the vocal cord damage) but that he didn't even mouth any words at all.... Just seemed sort of out of character in some way.

I really, really hope for him that if this is true there is a way to work to get some ability to vocalize back.

Almost six years to the day since I last posted here, but here goes...

I think this performance of 'Landslide' is the beginning of the choreography of public reconciliation. (I believe the private reconciliation has already happened, or is under way.)

In this choice of song, choice of accompanist, decision to record and release the video, I don't see 'we go high', in the sense of being a retaliation in an ongoing battle. I see a signal that a peace treaty is coming.

KB in particular has a little bit of a climbdown to do, having engaged her antagonists in public. That was COMPLETELY understandable and justified, btw. Don't come at me claiming I'm saying she was wrong. She. Was. Not.

But their rhetoric - hers and LB's - is now about love, and forgiveness. And I think they're sincere about that. So prepare yourself. LB might not go back to the band, but there is going to be a rapprochement of some kind.

I don’t know where you read forgiveness in KB’s posts. Love, yes, forgiveness, no. She mostly implied you just need to let it go and enjoy what you have. She just recently called them “awful people”, and she was being polite IMO.

Why would they ask for forgiveness if they’re still claiming that what they did was the right thing to do for the band’s survival?

Forgiveness and letting things go are close cousins. I said it was the beginning, that's all. As for why FM would want forgiveness - it depends on what everyone wants. There could certainly be a desire to express regret at how the situation escalated. But you're right: MF and CM have added a gloss to LB's ejection that it hard to come back from, but not impossible. I mean, you've seen these people, right? Mick could melt his neck down and make door knockers for half of England out of it.

I don't think LB will ever be back in the band, but that's more because of the complications of who replaced him. I wouldn't be surprised if NF and MC would be more than okay with it if Chris or John said they wanted to retire, and then the 'new band' can quietly dissolve without anyone calling them out on it.

I guess I think it's more about understanding. LB's big on that and I think SN also wants to move on, make peace before it's too late for either of them. They can agree to never see each other ever again, wish one another well, without being in a state of cold war. My hunch is that this 'Landslide' is the first move in making it known to the public that that's happened or is happening now. They're trying to move the fans' anger onto the same higher plane. Seems obvious to me.

Why is it so important that they're on good terms when clearly the band doesn't want to be on good terms with him? They kicked him out, they barely expressed concern after his heart attack (I'm still waiting for Nicks to dedícate Landslide to Lindsey), and after yesterday's news they still don't want to have anything to do with him. They're not asking for his or his family's forgiveness because they're convinced there's nothing to forgive.
They also don't care about the fans' opinion, as long as they're still buying tickets.

I wouldn't read much into this Landslide performance, really. Just another HS thing. Like many people have expressed here, it's a popular choice.

I don't read anything into LB not opening his mouth at that event. It was probably in the middle of a series of songs the chorus prepared and he exited quietly to keep the program flowing. This was about the high school graduates, not LB and he graciously got out of the way as soon as his bit was over. It seems clear he's coming to sit down next to Kristen to watch the rest of it.

(I realize he IS seeing a vocal specialist and therefore is having voice issues, but I would not expect him to speak in that particular clip either way.)

I think it would be naive to assume that everything that is public is also everything that happens.

Not less than to assume that because Lindsey's daughter performed Landslide, his father's ex bandmates are loving him again.:rolleyes:

haha, that eye roll badge is great! But no, the only thing I'd bet you five pounds on is that this performance of 'Landslide' is definitely NOT just high school stuff. LB and SN have a very long history of sending signals rather than talking. This was a signal - and in fact it's my hypothesis that its audience is the fans.

We can argue what it means, but you won't convince me it doesn't mean anything.

I'm not interested in convincing you on anything, Believe what you want. Truth is you don't know more tan I do. You're just speculating.

Nicks' last signal to Lindsey was loud and clear. She doesn't want to work with him anymore. She ruined her relationship with him and with his family forever. I'm sure she knew what she was doing the moment she orchestrated it.

I'm concerned about Lindsey's health now. That's all I care about. Some fans are yearning for a reunion, just to see them all together for a last time. It won't change what they did to him. What Stevie specifically did to him. I'm sorry about all those shipper hearts, but it is what it is.

you are looking for signals on the wrong side. LB was always open to reconciliation and forgiving those backstabbing evil people. he was always clear he loves them despite all their shortcomings. so Buck side is not where you should look for reconciliation signs. Mick and Stevie are the ones that need to grovel.

in just a few short weeks your theory will unfortunately most probably be completely debunked, when Fakewoods start again with their ridiculous advertising of the current tour. if they do a complete 180 in their tone and start putting LB in the stars where he belongs all of the sudden, instead of pretending he's insignificant little wheel in the long history of FM machine, that you were somehow miraculously right.

sounds like you think that Stevie's recent pneumonia bout somehow made her foggy self-centered ignorant mind suddenly realize maybe there's hell where nobody cares if someone was a bigger commercial star, so now she all of the sudden has regrets? because she certainly didn't show any when Lindsey almost died or when she was turning 70 and instead of finally growing up decided it's the right time for a final stab.

I was surprised, happily, that there were so many articles written about this performance.

I wish they would mention his "shelved" album so as to raise awareness of and interest in it.

There is no telling what kind of release it will receive, so this type of awareness could stand in for extended touring.

In the meantime, while his getting healthy, I can't help but think that the events of the last two years would probably be inspiring a LOT of feelings for songs that just could not be reflected in the shelved album.

I believe we will be hearing more music, beyond the shelved album, from him, one way or another.

From the texts to Mick that became public in the lawsuit to the CBS interview with Anthony Mason, he's always stated he has an openness to forgive them and move beyond this. Much to the chagrin of many here, and potentially even (at times) his wife.

It's the other side that's made no such statements and doesn't appear to know or care how their remarks about him come across. And we have no idea how they're interpreting this high school performance.

exactly. they have social media. Mick is posting pics holding his balls every 2 seconds on there. Stevie's social media is full of her self-promoting selfies.

so if one is looking for a sign there it is: anyone from FM could have easily posted a short blurb saying how happy they are seeing Lindsey's progress toward health, and wishing him well. nobody did.

i'm actually annoyed that this amazing family event is being made about that horrible band instead. not everything is about them. moving past them and their hate into the love of his family and friends is exactly for LB needs to heal.

Watch Lindsey Buckingham Perform for the First Time Since Open-Heart Surgery

Lindsey Buckingham underwent open-heart surgery earlier this year, and now the former Fleetwood Mac singer and guitarist has made his first public appearance since the operation. This past weekend, Buckingham performed at his daughter Leelee’s high school graduation, picking an acoustic rendition of “Landslide,” from Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album, as students sang the lyrics behind him.

Lindsey’s wife, Kristen Buckingham, posted a snippet of the performance to Instagram, which you can check out below.

She also tweeted: “Last night was epic. First time I’ve seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career. AND she sings a little ‘Landslide’ with her dad. I cried, I’ll admit it. Never know what’s ahead so enjoy the moment.”

Earlier last year Buckingham was fired by Fleetwood Mac following a disagreement over the band's current tour. In October, the singer and guitarist filed suit against the band for his dismissal.

According to documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Buckingham sued his former band mates for "breach of fiduciary duty, breach of oral contract and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage."

In a statement to Rolling Stone about the lawsuit, Buckingham said: “Last January, Fleetwood Mac made the decision to continue to tour without me.

“I remain deeply surprised and saddened, as this decision ends the beautiful 43-year legacy we built together. Over the last eight months, our many efforts to come to an agreement have unfortunately proved elusive. I’m looking forward to closure, and will always remain proud of all that we created, and what that legacy represents.”

I actually think that’s all this was.....a family event.
A wonderful event for a family that has been through so much.
The choice of song is “interesting” but not a surprising choice.
Stevie wrote it and he made it what it is. So why shouldn’t he play it.
I’m not so sure with the reaching out...seems more like the choir chose the song and he said yeah why not.

I’m just so pleased he looks well again.

YES, thank you! It would be really nice if people stop reading between the lines. Stevie had the chance to reach out in Alabama when she chose to dedicate Landslide to the audience and barely mentioned Lindsey. They don't want any type of reconciliation because they don't see anything wrong in what they did to him. While Lindsey has been open to a reconciliation for whatever he may have done since day one.

1. LB has made it very clear that the "band" and it's history is worth salvaging, and I feel confident he'd come back at least for a final send off if asked to.

2. I don't think anything is in the works.

3. It's been refreshing to see LB rise above the drama and take the high road.
3a. It's been great to see KB fight back and call out the other four for the people they truly are.

okay just my tuppence, but if there is a 'message' being sent in this video, which is completely possible,(beyond showing that he has a loving family and rich personal life- which some think is a message to SN, who knows )to me so far the main message really seems to be that LB is not an invalid stuck in a hospital bed somewhere wasting away. He's with it, he's lucid, he's capable, he's living his life almost the same as before, etc. It's about showing that he's still alive, vital, and productive. He was down but certainly not out, and is working to continue his career as a creative who still has new things to offer.

I think if it was a PR move it was not about the band, rather about HIM and how well he's doing. If he wants to tour again or put out records again, there's things like insurance (this was how Jagger's heart issue was found, through a required insurance physical) but there's also people's perceptions-- fans but also industry folks. This sends a clear signal that he can still get up in front of people and play beautifully. (IE, he could still make money).

With regard to him wearing his usual v-neck teeshirts again, and being all tanned, etc, I gotta say it struck me that his chest hair appears to still be gone. This note has been brought to you by the 17-year-old LB fan who still lurks somewhere deep in my brain.

I think it's pretty unrealistic that Lindsey/Kristen had any time, or inclination to work PR magic through his daughter's choir director and choral group.

I think the kids or choir director picked the song, and someone came up with an idea about asking Lindsey to play guitar for it. Could've been months ago that they asked him.

It's a family moment, with Kristen being kind enough to share with everyone, probably because everyone has been speculating about not hearing any news. It just isn't Lindsey, or Kristen's MO to use the kids as a prop to plan a statement.

So, thank goodness he looked so good, healthy and tanned and smiling. He looked happy. And now to get this voice thing sorted out, but whichever way that goes, he's alive, enjoying and loving his family time.

I don't think it was a PR move, but the tweet / instagram post may have been designed to counter the recent posts on social media that Lindsey was in pretty bad shape. I love Gary Hodges, but that was not very discreet of him, even if it did give us what we wanted.

As others have said, Lindsey has always been open to reconciliation, so if you want to see that in "Landslide," it would be nothing more than a reinforcement of what has already been put out there time and time again. I want reconciliation so badly for them, just to give them emotional peace (it's not about what they "deserve" - that's bitterness and resentment talking, and it does no one good).

I do worry that the lawsuit and Kristen's tweets (tweets which we must assume also speak for him to a degree) have turned Lindsey into a Don Felder in their eyes. Felder was always telling interviewers how he "forgave" the Eagles and "reached out" to them all the time, but he just didn't understand why they never got back to him. He'd sued them and written a tell-all book which was full of digs at them, but he'd still sadly sigh "I just don't understand why we can't all be friends again" in every interview right until Glenn died, and it become kind of a joke in the Eagles fandom. Then Glenn died, and Don Henley just doubled down when Felder was like, "Hey, maybe now...". That was very different, though. Felder got himself kicked out of the Eagles by demanding more money. Lindsey was not at fault.

I guess it could be a change in tone in the sense that there would be no more (deserved) negativity from Kristen on social media, but she's been rather silent anyway.

Again, though, the only real change will come if the other side understand the fragility of life, recognizes their part in this, and realizes THEY need to reach out.

And until I see a glimpse of that last sentence materializing in some form (a tweet, a personal mail, a mention in some concert), I'll continue believing they still haven't paid for what they did to Lindsey. Sorry if that means I'm a bitter and resentful person, because I'm not. I don't like what they did to him and how they continue acting around him.

I'm glad his family is focusing their energies now on his full recovery instead of this heartless group of people. And I'm glad they're keepins us updated because they know we care about him and root for him.

If they want to think about him as the bad guy because of the lawsuit, that only mean their memory is rather fragile. If they choose to put that in top of all the other great things Lindsey did for all of them then I guess they weren't his family after all.

I don't need any type of fake closure but to each their own. Not my place to judge other people's feelings/reactions.

I don't see how a reconciliation could give anyone emotional peace when it wouldn't mean anything, when we know -- and Lindsey should know -- they don't mean it. There's no there there.

After Tango there were bitter comments. There were bitter comments after Chris left in 1997 too. But I told myself the jabs were motivated by a sense of hurt and betrayal. This time, I think they're simply heartless, selfish people. If you don't reach out to someone after they've had a life-threatening episode, then you could never really have cared about them at all, deep down.

You know, I don't like Jerry Lewis and I loved Dean Martin. They were estranged for many years after Jerry Lewis, heady with his own stardom, began to minimize Martin's role in movies and push him out of their film partnership. After many years of estrangement, when Dean Martin's son died, Jerry went to the funeral and kept a low profile, so as not to call attention to himself. In Martin's time of sorrow, Lewis' core love for his old buddy was greater than all of the perceived resentments and years of feuding. The Fleetwood Four showed me there is no core love for Lindsey, almost dead or not.

I don't think there's anyone who has romanticized the chain as much as I have over the years. Heck, I watched Lindsey and John's handshake on the BTM video 50 times and cried over it, but I just couldn't delude myself into believing in any of it again, now that they have definitively proven so shallow. They didn't reach out then, so what they do in the future can never matter much. I'll always think it phony. They might make public amends someday and I'll be there for it. I want the attention for Lindsey. I want him to enjoy a stadium again. I want him to perform before thousands, not just hundreds. I'll watch the five of them together on a stage at an awards show, in a documentary, but I won't believe there's any emotion involved, nothing that penetrates any deeper than the sound of applause.

As for Kristen, normally, in a settlement agreement there would be a clause where you agree not to disparage and that is binding on your family and representatives as well. It's just standard. Clearly, there was no such clause in Lindsey's settlement agreement. He bargained to keep it out. I have to assume that he backs Kristen's posts 200% and more power to them. She has been quiet lately, but if their nonsense revs up again this fall, I hope she publicly comments like she did before.

It's bad enough thinking about Christine. I certainly don't want Lindsey eating crow to get them to throw him a bone.

as you say, Kristen's tweets were well deserved by the band. they were more than justified, and ALWAYS in reply to a new and current dig that band members took at LB. so yes, she was defending her man who she saw was hurting, from the digs from people who were supposed to be his friends and who owe him so much.

why would KB walk on eggs while the band continue throwing sh*t at Lindsey? Nicks has been doing that for decades, with her little subtle passive aggressive digs. her fans got all their weird ammunition that they keep repeating all over social media from somewhere, and i just recently realized many just follow her lead. so while i'm happy that LB mainly took the high road over decades, KB defending against their repeated digs in the last year is something that, if Bucks were more active on social media over the years, would maybe ended up in a more leveled picture of the band instead of SN = saint / LB = devil that some SN fans are amplifying and adding on with the made up sh*t of their own all over social media.

that said, anger is hurtful to everyone, and i can understand that KB and LB and their family took a high road and decided to forget about the backstabbers. they need healing, and they need love, and from the looks of it, they have plenty of it and plenty to look forward to. hope it's just uphill from now on, and whatever they decide to do re his voice ends up in the best way possible and makes him happy.

Lindsey Buckingham's First Gig After Heart Surgery Was His Daughter's Graduation
The former Fleetwood Mac member gets back on-stage

It was an emotional return to the stage for Lindsey Buckingham. No, the former Fleetwood Mac singer/guitarist wasn’t playing in front of 15,000 fans in an arena – it was something much more meaningful. The 69-year-old’s first public performance since undergoing heart surgery was at his daughter’s high school graduation.

Related: Lindsey Buckingham Confirms Stevie Nicks Wanted Him Out Of Fleetwood Mac

Buckingham played “Landslide” on acoustic guitar, as he’s done so many times before, but this time it was his daughter, LeeLee, and her classmates singing along. Buckingham’s wife, Kristen, posted clips of the moment on social media.

“Last night was epic,” she wrote. “First time I’ve seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career. AND she sings a little Landslide with her dad. I cried, I’ll admit it. Never know what’s ahead so enjoy the moment.”

Buckingham underwent open heart surgery in February which damaged his vocal chords. His wife said he would be traveling to meet with a specialist this week, presumably to determine if and when he might be able to sing again.

Buckingham’s surgery came a few months after the release of Solo Anthology: The Best of Lindsey Buckingham. He also spent a few months on the road with his band in late 2018 after being fired from Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham said Stevie Nicks forced him out, but Nicks has stayed quiet on the issue and a lawsuit has been settled.

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has performed live for the first time since undergoing emergency open heart surgery.

Lindsey underwent surgery at the start of February and suffered vocal cord damage during the procedure. All of his upcoming live dates were put on hold to allow him time to recuperate.

In his first public appearance since the operation, over the weekend Lindsey performed Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 classic ‘Landslide’ on acoustic guitar at his daughter Leelee’s high school graduation ceremony.

With Leelee and other students on vocal duties, it’s still currently unclear whether the vocal cord damage Lindsey suffered earlier in the year is permanent.

Lindsey’s wife Kristen shared video footage of the performance on Instagram and wrote on Twitter: “Last night was epic. First time I’ve seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career. AND she sings a little ‘Landslide’ with her dad. I cried, I’ll admit it. Never know what’s ahead so enjoy the moment…”

She later added: "The love and support for Lindsey and our family from all of you means the world. Thank u! Please think good thoughts this week and send L the best healing vibes as we head east to meet with vocal specialist. We’re ready for whatever is next. Love conquers all.”

The emergency heart surgery in February came after a tumultuous 2018 for Lindsey, which started with him being fired from Fleetwood Mac in acrimonious circumstances.

After slamming the band, and, in particular Stevie Nicks, in several interviews, Lindsey filed a lawsuit against Fleetwood Mac in October before they reached an out of court settlement two months later.

Referencing their difficult time, Kristien Buckingham said in February: "This past year has been a very stressful and difficult year for our family to say the least. But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. We feel so fortunate he’s alive. As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him.”

Lindsey’s former Fleetwood Mac band mates play two shows at London’s Wembley Stadium next month.

I’d imagine the person who was in Fritz that’s close to Lindsey was Bob Aguirre, but even then things have a tendency to get exaggerated on social media so who knows what the real condition with his voice is. And I highly doubt that anyone was sending anyone any messages with that song. It’s over between Lindsey and FM. After that lawsuit there’s really no going back. It’s a classic song, probably very sentimental for him and his daughter and I doubt there’s anything to it beyond that.

yup, gary said it was Bob Aguirre, couldn't remember his name.

Lindsey didn't break the chain, Stevie and Mick with the quiet rolling over of the McVie's did. his lawsuit was appropriate reaction to what they did. i don't know why people expect that he should eat sh*t from the band quietly, and it's now somehow his fault they broke the chain - because he dared to file the lawsuit and demand what's rightfully his? nope. it's theirs. it's just that he's way better person than they are.

yes. Gary said Bob got a text from KB at some point. Gary said that last week, but it was not clear when Bob talked to KB. and like dreamsunwind says, it's easily the case of "broken telephone" where info gets somewhat changed as it goes from person to person.

IMO, the Fakewoods will never ingest the crow they are supposed to in this matter, so, I consider the separate ways a foregone forever conclusion.

Hurray! :woohoo: and good riddance, too!

As for the Buckinghams -- it's very good to forgive and forget, but one never should go overboard with that to the point of rejoining the dysfunctional situation, n'est-ce pas?
Forgive and forget surely, but! Then happily move on, staying far away from the poison for your remaining years!:eek::eek:

100% agree with everything you said. This time is different. How a fake reconciliation can ease some fans' souls, I would never get it. They can't erase what they did with some concerts here and there in a couple of years. They left him alone with his thoughts about what he could have done wrong, and those moments of sadness probably contributed to his health scare. And they still didn't care.

They were supposed to be family, or at least close bandmates. If with a health scare they didn't reach out to him, nothing will move those rotten souls. Nothing.

We all probably be there if one day they decided to make amends, because of Lindsey. But it will mean nothing in terms of a true and heartfelt reconciliation.

In Nicks' own words, if you don't love me NOW, you will never love me again.

I’m not saying it was his fault at all. Not sure how you got that from what I said. I’m well aware it was ruined when they fired him but a lawsuit is a final nail in the coffin for various reasons, most notably being legal reasons. There’s likely some gag orders or something in place. There was already no going back but once you add all that on top of it, that point just becomes further emphasized. And like someone else said, it has probably made them see him as like their Don Felder or something. Long story short it’s all over and I’m sure he knows it and has accepted it and so I doubt is trying to send any messages by playing a song with daughter.

My thing is, it's all very well to enjoy life and family and to stop and smell the roses and enjoy every Zevon sandwich. That's all very picturesque. If that's what you want, take it.

I'm not sure that's what Lindsey wants, however. I think he liked fueling the small machine with the big machine. It not only benefitted him monetarily, it fulfilled him in other ways. If he likes to perform for those size crowds, I want it for him.

I don't want him to bow to them in any way, but if he somehow goes back and has as much power and pride as he had before, then I don't say, "Stay away. They don't deserve it." I say, "Go Lindsey, YOU deserve it." It's not about love or bonds any more, but it could still be about personal fulfillment for him. It's pretty to think he doesn't need those things to be fulfilled any longer, but for me, it's not necessarily realistic to think that. I think he likes the high, the intimacy of the small venues, where you're connecting with dedicated fans AND the rock star screams. Maybe he's over that. If he is I am relieved. But if he's not, if he's still got a craving, I've got it too.

It's his birthright.

sure. he can get together with some other rockers and form a supergroup. that way he can have arena size crowds and adulation, enjoyment with his actual peers, and proper respect for everything he has to give. instead of crowd falling all over themselves over some poisonous lady doing slow twirls and rambling incoherently, while not having any understanding or appreciation for stuff like even little guitar solos.

But what does HE want? He may never talk, but he can still use his fingers, presumably (assuming that he didn't just play Landslide using muscle memory and can't do anything else with his hands) and write out his current thoughts and desires.

If he is through with that band, fine. But he may not want to be. I don't know. I am not the forgiving sort and I would just as soon dig a hole in a snow-covered hill and shove them all in. But he may want something else. I think my feelings are, generally, more important than his own when it comes to his life. But as long as he stands his ground and isn't groveling, if they come knocking on his door and he wants to open it, I support it.

Exactly. I think we just need to be supportive of him, whatever he chooses.

Nope. Not me.

He threw away years of creativity waiting for this band to move on new music or touring endless greatest hits tours. I didn’t want him to do that anymore before they ousted him, before the heart attack, or especially now. If they sufficiently grovel (and it would have to be tons, and theyd actually need to go with what he wants as opposed to what nicks wants) then some one offs to tie the bow would be way more than enough. And we know they won’t grovel sufficiently because they are too self centered and too ignorant to even understand what they are doing.

That said I stated before the last 2 GH FM tours that I’m not seeing those but then relented because it was the only way to see LB. I don’t want that to happen again. He’s 69 and he probably won’t be able to perform till he’s in his 70s if he wants to sing. He can tour arenas w Trent though as a guitarist!

Same. I will support him in anything he does. I don't know where we say we won't, but anyway..... These were actually the first two artists that came to my mind, but I had trouble seeing how Lindsey could complement Keith on stage, unless they did a full duets project. But, yes, this would be cool. And maybe they could do a super group of others who love Lindsey (John Mayer etc). Lindsey Buckingham & The Smirks!

And I don't like NIN, so I skipped past that. And does NIN fill arenas still?

But Kanye would be a major art spectacle that the world would notice. Also, obvs, would result in the best music. But that's a pipedream. The above are more realistic for sure.

I hope after this last display of a$$holeness he has the decency of never coming back, but we all know Lindsey. Organic, full circle, legacy and karmic are his favorite words. If he has the chance.... maybe if we show our disgust to the whole idea long enough he will reconsider.

Anyway, they will never ask him to go back. He already sued them and they don't like that (especially Christine). Indeed f*ck them all. All of them. They all deserve each other. Lindsey is on a different league, IMO. Always was. And he's better off without them. I hope he understands it.

yes, they do. when they are in arenas they also have part of the floor GA standing so they definitely pack way more than FM does. i saw them in same arenas as the Mac but with GA floors back in 2013-14 (touring album on which LB played, actually). then they did a summer shed tour with Soundgarden a year after.

however, as i'm sure you are aware, Trent Reznor likes to experiment with different approaches and different venues. so their last tour was a mixture of arenas, multiple nights in small theaters, large festivals, and several nights smaller to mid-size venues with huge GA floors like the Anthem in DC. this was the tour when they were going back to basics and tickets were initially going on sale at the box office before opening online, to try and avoid big online scalper bots. so it had people standing in line for tickets for like 24 hours, at least for initial dates.

remember in their heyday NIN "opened" for David Bowie, even though they very much more commercially successful than he was at the time. but Trent insisted that Bowie is the main act. Bowie would tell funny stories about that tour, how everyone would leave after NIn was done and he would come on to half-empty arena, with just Trent there in the stands clapping enthusiastically.

so to answer your initial question - yeah, NIN still packs more audiences than FM does. but their prices are not nearly as crazy, because they are not into scalping people.

Lindsey Buckingham Performs For First Time Since Open Heart Surgery
05-22-2019
Lindsey Buckingham
(hennemusic)

Lindsey Buckingham performed last weekend for the first time since his emergency open heart surgery in early February and video from the performance has been shared online.

The rocker's wife, Kristen, shared the news via social media about the guitarist's appearance at his daughter Leelee's high school graduation ceremony on May 17, where he accompanied Leelee and her fellow students on the 1975 Fleetwood Mac classic, "Landslide."

"Last night was epic," Kristen tweeted. "First time I've seen Lindsey play in the last 4 mos, all the while Leelee ending her high school career. AND she sings a little 'Landslide' with her dad. I cried, I'll admit it. Never know what's ahead so enjoy the moment..."

The former Fleetwood Mac member continues to recover from the surgery, which resulted in vocal damage to the guitarist; Kristen updated fans on the situation on May 20, tweeting: "The love and support for Lindsey and our family from all of you means the world. Thank u! Please think good thoughts this week and send L the best healing vibes as we head east to meet with vocal specialist. We're ready for whatever is next. Love conquers all."

Buckingham was fired by Fleetwood Mac last year after Stevie Nicks reportedly gave the band an ultimatum that she would leave if he didn't; the guitarist successfully sued the group over his dismissal in a lawsuit that was settled in November. Watch the video and see the tweets here.
