View Full Version : Has Stevie’s behavior killed the Ledge?

People don’t post here like they used to and I noticed that it really started going downhill when she refused to be on a new Fleetwood Mac album. After she got Lindsey fired, it seems like hardly anyone posts. To me, she has basically destroyed the legacy of Fleetwood Mac and has almost killed the Ledge. That may be her legacy.

It is not Stevie, it is the quality of the posts here. The board has been really really ugly since the firing and many people have been trolled away. Plus who wants to log on and read the same sh!t over and over about how evil she is and how precious a victim Lindsey is? Every hour of every day for over a year?

Or here's a novel thought....there's nothing new left to discuss

It's always easy to pile on and put the blame on other factors.

Where's your initiative in starting up interesting threads of discussion?

Some of you seem to forget that Lindsey is a father, husband Uncle etc and didn't deserve to be treated the way he was. How would you feel if someone slandered you and made baseless allegations about you and then on top of that the public comes after you as well with their own senseless attacks. I don't know anyone who has EVER said Lindsey was a saint. We are all aware of his past but as I have said before Stevie Nicks is not Mother Theresa herself and those that keep defending her like she is the victim need to stop. I am aware that people do complain allot about the firing etc but can you blame them? Every time you turn around the Band does another pathetic interview and attacks him again. People have a right to be angry and express themselves. The band hasn't done anything new or groundbreaking in a long time so what else is there to discuss if not the firing or the current stale set list. If you don't like the comments then move on. Why get all upset.

Nope. People are turned off by the bitterness of the Lindsey cult. I am. They're everywhere whining, moaning and attacking Stevie. It's boring as hell. Destroyed the legacy? Oh, criminy. Drama much?

I tried that a few weeks ago. I posted about Stevie's videos getting uploaded to Youtube and the reply i got was "I hope she trip. Ingrate."

That instance might be indicative why this isn't such a fun place to discuss this stuff sometimes

Yes, and it started way before Lindsey got fired. The nasty misogyny of some Ledgies had me avoiding the Ledge for some time. The thing that really gets me , you cannot show any leaning or slight bias towards Stevie.
I am a FMac fan above all, so don’t have strong feelings that Stevie is all bad or Lindsey is all good and vice versa.
I do feel sometimes, I would like to air a view but don’t as I think I will get shot down and don’t relish that, as I’m not here to argue with anyone.
This makes the Ledge an unbalanced forum especially the Rumours pages...

So Stevie’s behavior has caused this. People have a right to complain against people who are acting badly. You could say that the people who keep calling out Stevie are part of a Resistance movement and are not completely brainwashed. Had Stevie not behaved so badly then people would not be hating on her.

No it's not a world war. Its mainly the result of folks who have been major fans for 10, 15, 20+ years who witnessed the behavior of somebody and saw for themselves what it really meant and disagreed with what occured. Many folks have become vocal about it or flat out left.

On principal we shouldnt have to use the block feature, but it is there for a distinct purpose which the moderatorsof this board have pointed out recently.

All of that said....despite however you feel, it still shouldnt stop anyone from creating new discussion topics. Instead of creating threads about negativity, create a thread about something you would rather talk about. Simple as that. Instesd of complaining, practice what you preach and talk about whatever stevie topic you want.

Right. I have been a fan for over 3 decades and have bought multiple copies of albums just to support Fleetwood Mac and Stevie. Like many people, I waited for them to get back together and do that one final album, and Stevie stopped that and then got the most artistic member who crafted their success kicked out of the band over something petty. She deserves all the hate she get.

Starting new threads with positive discussion apparently isn't an option, so tell me what do you want? How are you going to help this situation besides creating or adding to threads that focus on lamenting about the issue?

We could ask the same of the troll brigade here. Talk about lamenting an issue.

The board's descent into madness and likely death is largely due to the fact that there is never action against trolling.

Starting new threads with positive discussion would be an option if certain individuals would limit their Stevie-bashing to the threads dedicated to it and stay on topic when someone wants to discuss something else.

BigAl84
04-14-2019, 09:43 AM
No,it's clear as crystal that it's a definitive choice by others to play the victim. There's an obvious solution here. Block all these folks who you think are part of a "troll brigade" and carry on with your discussion. If somebody says something you don't like, you don't even have to acknowledge it, ignore it.

But the problem with that solution is it would leave a whole lot of folks with nothing to complain about. It sure is much more fun to create an entire thread about how others ruined the Stevie Nicks forum. It's ironic because behavior like this is fueling the fire for the alleged "troll brigade"...and I'm guessing that's what folks want. Kick up another brushfire so we can all sit around and point fingers.

I will get out of the way, please commence.

LOL what a ridiculous statement. I love Stevie. Sure, I was angry with her for a couple of months but then I got over it. I have always been a fan of Fleetwood Mac since I was 15 and I'm 57 now. You might have never been a true fan. As you stated yourself you haven't been around here for a while. I on the other hand have never gone away. To me The Ledge is alive and well. On the first day of the current tour I posted youtube videos from the Tulsa show and thousands of people viewed and discussed them. When the news first broke about Lindsey, thousands more flocked to The Ledge to discuss it. This is definitely a happening place. I have been very impressed by the amount of old time Ledgies that have come back to give their take on the LB situation.

I’ve been an observer on this forum for many years, and rarely ever respond. However, this compelled me to figure out my password.

In addition to other members’ comments on the quality of postings diminishing over the years, I believe the statement above is also correct. This type of platform is quite archaic.

In order to get to the quality information, one must wade through endless posts of petty name-calling and conjecture. And while there appears to be some useful discourse, most of it is a reminder of how limited the human race is, in capacity for thought and communication. And that’s a blanket statement regardless of which FM camp you belong to.:wavey:

It is of course my concern, and the concern of many others who have weighed I here. We are members of the forum and dismayed at the declining discourse here and the idea that it has turned people away. Sorry I care about the ledge.

Then refrain from repeating yourself in this single thread I don't know how many times now and put your energy back into the kind of discourse you want to see here.

As I've said multiple times, we hear you...but I do not understand what you expect to accomplish by repeating the same statement about your dissatisfaction with this forum.

At least hatred for Stevie and Mick is a Fleetwood Mac discussion. Having an insatiable urge to repeatedly call out other posters is not a discussion about the band and does not contribute anything. Once your complaints about other members have been made, they should not be continuously repeated.

You seem to care more about enforcing your opinions on the way the Forum should be run, who should participate in it and how, than about the Forum itself. I think you should start a Facebook page, assuming you do not already have one, and create a community that you find welcoming and fruitful, rather than trying to reshape this one to your liking. You've lodged many complaints, all of them similar. You've chased members you disliked around the forum to correct their grammar and pronoun/possessive usage and generally created much more of a nuisance than the one you object to and will not block or ignore the posts that you say offend you. You wear your refusal to do so as a badge of honor, but I find the behavior disruptive.

You quoted Big Al and initiated a discussion with him about how tedious posts concerning Lindsey's ouster have become and he replied to you. You came into the thread to insert that comment. You started that conversation. If you hadn't, no one would have called you out about anything.

A. You initiated the conversation with me

B. Don't walk up to folks and say something if you don't want to hear their reply.

C. It doesn't matter if you don't like that person's reply. You initiated contact with that person.

D. Deal with it.

Ledgies killed The Ledge.

This is meant to be a fan forum. Why would people who still love the music and still call themselves a fan visit this forum if all that happens is the slagging off of one of it's most successful and most revered members?

I know die hard Lindsey fans who sick of the Stevie bashing just as much as the Stevie fans. There hasn't been a thread here for years that hasn't turned into it "lets all slag off Stevie" fest. And people are tired of it so have gone elsehwere. Some of the Facebook groups are little powerhouses at the moment and great to be a part of.

It's almost like a huge chunk of ledgies can't seperate their personal opinions of a certain band members actions from the music that they once loved. I mean none of us know the truth of what happened, really. I don't necessarily agree with what went on from what we know so far, but equally I know Lindsey is no saint and this band has always been associated with drama, fall outs, affairs, line up changes, scandals and bitching - and that was before anybody even heard of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks!

That's why I stopped posting/participating. I get however that it's up to the people who manage the site how they wish to run it so I just left and went to other forums. I just think perhaps a clearer notice for people considering signing up in future may be helpful, as it looks like people are registering again. Is this still a forum that represents the overall Fleetwood Mac community or just Lindsey's input and his solo career? Because with his illness etc I don't think it's going back to Rumours 5 again anytime soon. Perhaps a slight chance of Buckingham McVie, that's all I can see. It doesn't really seem a fan friendly environment for new people considering joining up who are still interested in current formation of the band.

I helped someone else join up here after the split (when it seemed like registration was being restricted) and I thought that person understood that feelings here were a bit sensitive. I knew they really were a bona fide long term Fleetwood Mac fan including Lindsey Buckingham. I was therefore disappointed to see that they subsequently started trying to push their views or their will in the main forum to 'defend' the new lineup. I didn't necessarily disagree with their views but my feelings are if you don't like the way a community is run and you're not heavily involved in administering it then you cut your losses and seek out some place else. So that was something I regret and wouldn't try again, I apologize for it happening and any disruption it may have caused. I just told others who were still trying to sign up here I probably wouldn't recommend anyhow because may not be the best place for them at any rate and maybe they should look at something else.

My view but I know others feel different. I've seen other fan forums with long histories sadly shut down over things like this but I actually hope this one doesn't for the sake of the history that has been kept here, that would be sad to lose. Even if it doesn't offer anything for me personally at present.

That's how I felt towards the end but not continuing in this discussion, for reasons stated above...

ETA: goodness! I can sometimes be critical of members of the band. None of them are beyond that and they all have their flaws including Lindsey. He's still my fave guitar player but I realize the legacy of the band extends beyond him and I don't feel it's all been destroyed. They have now perhaps the best writing team than any other time in history and people who rank up there with the world's greatest musicians, just age and time maybe now working against them. If people think Stevie is so terrible they shouldn't have missed her on the Buckingham McVie album/tour. On the last official FM tour I was already prepared for it probably being the farewell of the original Rumours lineup because none getting any younger and as it turns out Lindsey's health would not have been strong enough for this tour anyhow. But really, instead of complaining about how others have turned being negative about the rest of the band into a full-time hobby I prefer to go somewhere else and focus on what's positive about what's perhaps the final tour and the band's 50 year legacy. So with that...

Newsflash: This forum was designed to be a place for Fans of Fleetwood Mac and all of its members to come and converse. This includes Stevie Nicks.

If you don't like hearing other peoples adverse opinions on Stevie Nicks or any other member of Fleetwood Mac, that is your problem. Not a problem of this board.

What really killed this forum is fans who have this expectation to come to this forum and not see varying viewpoints or disagreements.

Bottom line - don't show up to a forum that is about a band, consisting of 5 members if you don't want to see varying opinions expressed about any one of them.

At this point there is probably more discussion about the poor state of this place than negative comments about Stevie or anyone else by people who simply refuse to use features like their own capacity to ignore or use the block button.

Also, there's no need for anyone to announce why they don't post here anymore or why they left. What exactly is the point? Come out of the woodwork to complain and pile onto more of the same? OK.

There is no sign on the front door of this forum that says "only positive posts about stevie nicks allowed" nor should there ever be. Anyone who can't accept that is completely unrealistic. People will say things you either don't like or disagree with. That's life.

Can we move on now?

You've clearly missed the point entirely and seem to think I'm NOT a fan of all members of Fleetwood Mac - including pre-1975! Well you're wrong.

Historically, there has always been a balanced view of all the members on here. But in recent years, even before the recent split, the Stevie-bashing has increased. And now it's just ridiculous. These days, you could start a thread asking for toilet paper recomendations on here and it would turn into a Stevie hate fest within 5 posts! It amazes me that people who call themselves fans of this band and it's members, knowing their history and knowing their personal difficulties, drama's, exaggerations etc, that so called fans STILL think the current state of Fleetwood Mac is so one-sided.

I may not agree with Stevie's behaviour towards Lindsey, but I'm not stupid enough to believe it was completely one-sided. It's just one more over-blown drama in a 50 year history of over-blown drama's. And whatever went on between these 2 band members has no impact on how much I enjoy their music and haven't felt the need at any point to personally attack Stevie, Lindsey or any other member of the band.

This is meant to be a FAN forum, not a hate filled bitch fest about ANY of it's members, which is what it has become.

You're correct that there's probably too much Stevie bashing on the forum, but that doesn't mean that Stevie is in the right here. Both things can be true. I think a lot of Stevie fans dismiss any criticism as "bashing", and get defensive. I get it, it's tough to admit that she did something wrong, but she broke up the band! It's like the number 1 rule of what not to do in a band. You don't issue a "him or me" ultimatum over a petty squabble.

I get that Stevie was fed up with Lindsey, but she just comes across as a total diva at this point. I don't think Lindsey would have ever broken up the band, and in recent years seems to have bent over backwards to please Stevie.

So fans are going to be upset that the classic lineup was broken up through what appears to be the actions of 1 member. This is the biggest news to hit FM since The Dance. Lindsey's firing is a bigger deal than Christine returning. And it hasn't helped that some posters were dismissing and "bashing" Lindsey from the get go. They acted like it was good riddance to Lindsey, minimized his contributions, and wanted people to get over it like a week later.

I still like Stevie and her music, and I don't think Mick is any more money-grubbing than the rest. He just loves to play, so why not play for the largest audience possible? I get all that. However, Stevie and Mick still made the wrong choice, and Stevie should have figured out a way to work out her issues with Lindsey. There's zero excuse for not returning his calls or emails. They just seem petty.

Well, you said it yourself, the complaining about Stevie started before she got Lindsey fired, so MAYBE Stevie deserves to be complained about?

And this is a fan forum site, so people can come here and talk about whatever band stuff they want, with other fans. That means bitching about band members if they want. Seems fair to me. If I want to bitch about Stevie, I can.

And if I'm not interested in a topic, then I don't open that thread.

But at no point have I ever tried to tell someone that their point of view is wrong, or to "get over it." Or to tell me that because I'm disappointed/angry/venting about Stevie that I'm not a fan. That is ignorant and rude. I just don't read/respond, try that and people won't dig their heels in so deeply.

Actually no, I got your point loud and clear. I didn't miss a beat.

You very clearly said:
"This is meant to be a fan forum. Why would people who still love the music and still call themselves a fan visit this forum if all that happens is the slagging off of one of it's most successful and most revered members?"

This is a really simple concept. She is a member of a band, and when you are a member of a band you have fans of that band and fans of a solo career.

She is part of this band and therefore all of the things that come with it, including fans who may say less positive things or express their view on a situation.

AGAIN...all of these opinions about b*tch fests and one sided arguments are strictly opinions, nothing more. It's fan forum where everyone can voice their opinion. Nowhere does it say it has to be anything specific. If you have an issue with the variety of opinions and views expressed here, that is your problem and please don't let the door hit you on the way out.

This is an OPEN FORUM. Not a controlled dialogue where members are expected to only post a specific way. Having a different opinion doesn't make you any less of a fan, so please check that BS at the door too.

Speaking of overblown drama, getting your nose bent out of shape because folks have a different opinion than you...well that sure is some overblown drama right there.

I used to love coming on here and feeling at home with the passionate discussions about my favorite band, which ranged from interpretations of old songs to speculation on upcoming performances.

I visit maybe once a month these days and rarely post because people are so angry and quick to attack. I’m a huge Stevie fan AND I am having a hard time with Lindsey’s firing and heart attack. I’m upset with Stevie for kicking Lindsey out of the band AND I want to hear both of their sides of the story. I wish there was room for nuanced discussion. I agree with what others have said. It’s the vitriol and misogyny that keeps me away. We might as well call this board “The Wedge” because it’s become so divisive.

I think her behavior has awoken The Ledge, strife and tribalism notwithstanding.

What it has killed VERY dead, however, STONE dead, in my opinion, your mileage may vary, is the band and her own reputation. But to me she'd been on that decline for some years already. Still, even with my opinion of her rapidly declining in the past years, even I could not have predicted the final low.:eek::eek:

People who don't like the constant rehashing make me laugh. The band has been rehashing the story for over a year now with interview after interview and we are not allowed to comment.

I can GURANTEE if Stevie was kicked out in the EXACT same way those who still idolize her and worship her would be on this board doing exactly the same thing (Rehashing her firing and what they think really happened and or bad mouthing the other members and not getting over it like they tell us too)

I will post whatever I want and or comment if I want. If you are tired of reading the same old same old then simply scroll past why make bitchy posts complaining?

Lindsey's firing is a big deal to many even after all this time. Most of us were looking forward to another tour with the 5 of them. They went and ruined it for many of their long time fans. I would have been there at opening night and my hometown show also. Why is it ok for the band to sling mud at him over and over again but yet if we comment some of you get up in arms. There are fans who support him and are disgusted by his treatment and they should have the right to comment.

I agree. It's incredibly self centred for people to keep saying "get over it!" They have no right to tell other people how they are suppose to feel.
And, if Stevie had been treated so badly, you can bet they'd still be marching in the streets.

Actually, I can guarantee you that I wouldn't have. I have no desire to tell you how to feel, you can make up your own mind. And if it got tedious reading your posts, I would have just skipped them, out of respect and the fact that this is a place to discuss such things.

Well the Buckheads aren’t really Buckheads. We are just Ledgies who have watched Stevie destroy Fleetwood Mac and are mad at the unfairness of it all. While Mick and Stevie were all coked up, Lindsey was stuck with all the work. Look how they repayed him.

What is new about these people anymore? There is none -- no news, no new music, it's all just same-old same-old regurgitated ad-nauseam stuff.

THAT is the reason there's nothing to read here or post here any more. Well, besides composing posts querying the gross injustice, that is
And there are only so many creative ways I can say that they don't sound all that good to me in their concerts these days. My approach is: Say something five or six times, and then drop back.

Exactly. While those two were coked out of their minds someone kept the band going. Now they act like he did little to nothing for the band and is easily replaceable.

I wouldn't. I have made it very clear that if what happened to Lindsey had happened to ANY OTHER member I would be just as mad and not wanting to support them. Some of the fans think FM is SN only and and can take anyone else being fired as long as she is still there no matter what the circumstances are.

Well maybe they’ll add a new song to the set list and then there will be a new way to express how it doesn’t sound good.

Both of them have always been selfish and decadent. It’s all about them.

They have NOT played blues band songs with Lindsey since at least 1982, with the rare exception of Oh Well.
Please stop with your convenient memory loss.

WRONG.

Starting with Tusk tour they dropped all pre 75 material except for Oh Well. Then when Lindsey left in 87 they did a total of 4 Peter Green songs between the 87-95 tours It was SN who said in one of the interviews recently that someone (Lindsey) didn't want to play those songs. Even if that was true they had 10 years without him and did NOTHING from Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan, or Jeremy Spencer. The band as whole ignored that material and now suddenly it is convenient for Lindsey to be made to answer for that. Where was her desire to play any of that stuff before? It was never brought up at anytime before 2017. If she or any other member were so concerned abut the legacy and respect of pre Rumors members they could have spoken up and demanded to play some of those songs over the years and to my knowledge they never did. It was Rick and or Billy who insisted when they joined that they do some of the pre 75 material of Peter Green. No one else was chomping at the bit to play that material. Plus they have dropped some of those deep cuts because just as we all know fans filing up the arena's don't care or possibly even know songs from that era.

Also why you feel the need to attack me personally is beyond me but I guess that shows the level of maturity you have.

Seriously omg I’ve always thought it was weird how Stevie brings up Lindsey not playing much of the old blues songs when the guitarists in the years without him didn’t play them all that much more either lol. It makes sense that a guitarist wouldn’t want to play them more all that much honestly, if it’s not their style and they have their own music to play. It’s understandable.
