I still love this band and always will. I did not see this line up in concert on this tour but I would have considered it if they were promoting a new album. I would buy a new album by this lineup for sure. I will continue to support Lindsey’s solo work and pray that he recovers from his surgery. It sucks what went down but this band is the soundtrack of my life and “ I Can’t Go Back”. 😎

No defending her? Are you serious? Can you not think of a single other workplace (and a band IS a workplace/work group) where someone was fired because they didn't get along with someone else?
Can you think of one other workplace where two people who hated each other continued to work together in high pressure jobs for 43 years?

She got him fired for smirking. He made her a star. He made them all stars. She slept her way through musicians and producers to get where she is at. She used people like Lindsey to get ahead. Tom Petty and Prince are dead and now she is using them to propel herself forward. She should be gracious and thankful. Instead, she acts like she is in an episode of Game of Thrones.

I agree 100%. But a few people here think FM owe them something, and should do things solely to make them happy. I know in my career I've been frustrated with co-workers and was happy when they either left or were fired. You and I get that, but some people here will never understand that.

Probably the same reason why the rare non positive review of the present band keeps being posted in the Rumours forum. It's interesting that the CBS interview was all a lie and from the Mojo article we finally get closer to the truth from Chris and Mick that Stevie was indeed the instigator.

Sadly, I empathise with Lindsey. I know first hand how it feels to be fired from a job you love because your co-workers don't like you. This happened to me as a nurse in a Sydney hospital emergency department. I was fired after eight weeks, with just four more weeks remaining on my temp contract.
But I didn't, by the same token, sue. I couldn't have anyway, as it was a temp job, but even if it had been a perm job, I wouldn't have sued. Yes I would have been in discussions with the union and had them represent me... but there are no musicians' unions, are there? It's like running your own business, in a way, being a musician/artist.
And Lindsey doesn't own Fleetwood Mac, nor does Stevie. Mick and John do. So really, Mick and John are the two people who have the most say in who gets to call themselves Fleetwood Mac. And because John doesn't like to get involved in band politics, even in the early days he has been like this... Mick gets to make the big calls.
But that is enough oxygen for me to give to what should be a dying issue.

Yes, I am as high as people who suggest she owes him because he got her in the band. That's precisely my point. No one can say one would not have made it without the other, and yet people do. The argument that her success is based oh his architecture of the music kind of loses it's strength when you look at the fact that he has been his own musical architect with far less solo success than Stevie's. I do believe her popularity is what made all the members of the band more wealthy than they would have been without her. Like it or not (and I'm not saying it's deserved or fair) it is factual that most people associate Fleetwood Mac with Stevie. I don't know how you can argue against that when the band themselves believe that, and that's the only reason they went along with firing Lindsey. If she wasn't responsible for the bulk of their wealth she would never have that kind of power over any of them. It's fine to think what happened is wrong, unethical or fcked up on her part(which I do think), but to deny what I'm saying is just a reaction to not liking that it's truthful.

Lindsey is a feckless, obsessive, grandiose perfectionist. Lindsey had the fewest career releases of anyone in the classic lineup. Lindsey had the fewest top 40 singles of the classic lineup writers. Lindsey’s solo albums never cracked the top 30.
In the 21 years between the end of the “Mirage” tour and SYW, Lindsey only did three studio albums (Go Insane, TITN, and OOTC) and two tours (about 90 shows). In that same time, Stevie did seven studio albums and ten tours (over 550 shows). For further context, in the 23 years between the end of the BTM tour and OWTS, Christine did two studio albums and one tour (47 shows), and she was in some state of retirement during those years.
Maybe if Lindsey had gotten off his ass and actually did something instead of basking in the glow of his visionary genius he wouldn’t have become the easily expendable one.

No, not giving you that. In the decade between TITN and The Dance, Lindsey did one album, which peaked at #128 and a tour (43 shows), mostly opening for Tina Turner. The band wasn’t holding him back.
Fleetwood Mac made two albums (one peaking at #18 and producing a top 40 single) and did three tours (about 245 shows). Between Fleetwood Mac and solo, Stevie did three studio albums and five tours (around 290 shows), all done before Lindsey and Mick started working together. That point has been way overstated. Mick called Keith Olsen (who had already been retained to do the next Fleetwood Mac album) to convince that guitarist from that band to join. Keith immediately explained that he came as a package deal, and Mick asked Keith to convince THEM to join. (ETA: I have a theory that Olsen would have tried to make that match even if Bob Welch had stayed. He needed to stop having Buckingham Nicks be freeloaders.)
In any event, Stevie is the one who had put her foot down that they join. Lindsey didn’t want to.

And none of that has anything to do with the quality of musical output. Some people on this board are obsessed with album sales, chart placements, and venue size. Some kind of pissing contest I guess. Lots of cult albums with initially poor sales that are now more well regarded than bestsellers in their day. According to your logic, Fiona Apple sucks (4 albums in 20 years - most way better than Stevie's) and bands like the Velvet Underground and Big Star are failures. There are aesthetic criteria as well, and the bland, static arena rock show of current FM is a kind of failure to me.
Lindsey's albums are more interesting musically than hers. Stevie writes the same boring type of song over and over. Lindsey takes songs from writing stage all the way through to final production, something Stevie cannot, has not, and will never do. Considering how spotty her solo output is, she probably should have been more of a perfectionist. Check out their Rate Your Music rankings - Stevie's albums are rated much lower than his. Maybe release fewer albums with stronger material?
And there is no contest between the Lindsey and Stevie cults. No one refers to Lindsey as "my king". It's more of the usual rabid fanhood sure, but nothing like Stevie's.

Except it is relevant when people try to give Lindsey all of the credit for Fleetwood Mac’s success. At that point, it begs the question if he’s solely responsible for their success, why didn’t any of the albums he made outside of Fleetwood Mac chart higher than #32?
Personally, I don’t credit their success to any one individual, and the success doesn’t really matter. My top five solo albums are The Visitor, Gotta Band, In The Skies, Christine McVie, and Bella Donna.
and bands like the Velvet Underground and Big Star are failures. There are aesthetic criteria as well, and the bland, static arena rock show of current FM is a kind of failure to me.
I agree, but that’s exactly why I didn’t mind the change. The setlist, especially the first few shows, was like a dream come true. I think they dropped one too many of the songs that made it interesting to me.

That’s a bit of a straw man. The point was that it’s hard to argue the band held him back during the decade he wasn’t in the band. He could have released a few albums and done more live shows, but he chose not to. That said, I’d much rather have the warts and all approach to releasing albums a la Guided by Voices and Richard Thompson than only releasing one overthought album five years after it could possibly have been relevant. Hell, he didn’t even play anything from that album, the one he left Fleetwood Mac to make, on his 2006 tour.

People assume that sticking up for Lindsey means we are part of some cult. Most of us were die hard SN fans then she changed. She refused to make new music solo for a decade and then has refused to make new music with FM. Add to the fact that she has way overblown Tom Petty's death to make it all about herself. The They were good friends for sure but they were not even married. Using a FM tour to pay respect to someone who did nothing for FM while stomping all over someone who did a lot for FM is pretty questionable. Same with Prince. The way she keeps talking about him lately she makes it sound like they were much closer or spent more time together then they actually did. In my opinion she has become a very different person then she used to be. Some people will disagree and that is fine.
If you go on social media you can see how many groups are devoted to SN and a very unhealthy worship. Some of the comments are comical.
As for Lindsey while we can all agree his solo output produced little hits and sales it doesn't mean that the music is crappy. I agree his lack of output as a solo artist is something that has hurt his career. If he had been more prolific and had he toured solo before 92 who knows how successful he would have been.
I respect Stevie's solo output though I don't love everything she has put out. I do think though she owes allot of her success to the people who produced and arranged her music. She has written some great music but someone had to take her poems and make them into the gems.
As for the FM production. I am sure we all agree SN is and always will be the biggest thing to come out of FM but where I take issue is people who act like Lindsey had little to nothing to do with FM's success. In my opinion he was a meticulous craftsman who arranged and produced the music turning them into the classics we know and love.
One thing I don't get is the excitement over the current tour. How many times do you need to hear the same SN songs over and over. Since 2001 she or FM have toured numerous times giving fans plenty of times to see them live. What makes this tour any different then the others? The pre 75 material is stuff that most of the fans who bought tickets don't know or care about and they have dropped some of those songs for that very reason. No matter how many tickets they sell it doesn't disguise that this is another GH tour with a set list mostly comprised of stuff they have done for years on previous tours. The difference is you are paying allot to watch fill in's play on songs recorded and or produced and arranged by other people.
While I can still appreciate the music from the past the current band and what lead to this lineup doesn't sit right with me. If people want to go and support the band that is fine too. I haven't attacked or unfriended people on social media for supporting the band. I have only unfriended people who attacked Lindsey and or his family with vulgar and or nasty remarks.

Cover songs by other artists vs playing your own 50 plus catalog doesn't excite me. The stuff like Hypnotized was mostly dropped because they went over like a lead balloon. They had 10 years without him in the band from 87-97 and they didn't exactly shake things up that much. This current tour is still a set list largely built around the 70's heyday. Plus the Tom Petty tribute is in poor taste when you have several FM members who have passed and they deserve recognition more then someone who did nothing for the band.

It’s no different than Chicken Shack, Buckingham Nicks, or solo songs. Neil wrote IGY and DDIO. Mike played guitar and co-produced the original Tom Petty version AND Stevie’s cover of “Free Fallin’.” The fact Stevie covered the song puts it in the same category as Stand Back, HAEWAFY, and Go Insane.

Not really. Bringing Mike into the band, pairing him with Stevie, was a way to get Petty Nation out to the shows. No disrespect to Danny or any of the Bobs, but their cultural relevance was extremely limited. Tom’s cultural relevance was more global.
Fleetwood Mac has never existed in a vacuum.

Not that it matters, but I also take issue with the Free Fallin' / Tom Petty overkill. Stevie needs to stop talking about him (and Prince). It's not about her!
I love Tom Petty's music. His music has been the soundtrack to my life as much as Fleetwood Mac's has been, really. Been listening since I was a young kid. However I never need to hear anyone sing Free Fallin', especially not Stevie. It really bothers me. She's milking his passing as a huge attention grab and it offends me as a Tom Petty fan and as a FM fan, too. I don't like to use the word "hate" lightly, but I really do hate that they're doing it.
I don't *as much* mind the two (now one) Neil Finn songs added in since the man wrote them himself and no one died, though if I'm paying huge money to see Fleetwood Mac live, I want to hear Fleetwood Mac songs. Not covers. A band as successful as they have been for so many decades really has no excuse to play covers when they have such a deep catalogue. The repetitive setlists is inexcusable to me and comes off as lazy and uncreative.
PS - while we're at it, I don't even like that they played any of their solo songs on the Fleetwood tours. I don't care for Stevie's solo work and therefore would never want one of her solo songs taking a spot on the FM set as they used to do (Lindsey or Christine's either, though I enjoy their solo work more). But since I won't see FM again as long as Lindsey is out, it really doesn't matter anymore anyway!

The issue is that they have more then enough songs in their own catalog to play. If you have to play a cover song to bring in Petty fans then that tells me you were not confident your own catalog would fill the seats with a key member missing.
The Buckingham Nicks SN LB solo songs bothered me too for being in the set. They have 50 years of songs to chose from so play those rather then covers.

If anything, LB’s behavior has dramatically improved relative to 35 years ago. Stevie Nicks isn’t easy to get along with either, she’s the one who said she loves antagonizing him and is known for picking fights with him and Mick. Lindsey’s not stupid. I believe if there was some acute reason or altercation he would not be publicly wondering aloud along with his wife about what the heck just happened. I believe he’s truly perplexed among a dozen other emotions. The band has given several different versions. That also suggests to me there was no sentinel event or definitive explanation. Stevie, who gets the most press, hasn’t opened her mouth, which is atypical. She has never held back about Lindsey. I think what happened, occurred between Stevie’s ears. I’ve always believed when Petty died, as she usually does, she made the grief all about her and looked for a way to forge an official public connection with someone intimately related to the lost person. Enter Mike Campbell. I believe she was irrationally fixated on having Mike join FM. I believe she justified and talked herself into it being ok by using her labile relationship with Lindsey. One minute she adores him, the next she hates him, then she resents him, then she likes him, then he is the person she’s known the longest and loved before he had money or fame, the person who would get the first call, etc., rinse and repeat. I think that’s why he’s so surprised. He’s used to her hot and cold. I think that’s why this makes no sense to him or most people. Their dynamic is not new; her ultimatum allegedly because of that dynamic is what’s new. I don’t believe she, after 20 years, said I just can’t take another second of Lindsey. Mostly because she’s the petty one who can’t pick a lane, she is the one who starts and thrives on the drama. That’s the reason for his shock. Nothing new or different happened. That’s why there’s no cogent or rational explanation anyone else can articulate. Stevie justified kicking him out to get Mike with this silly excuse he irreparably offended her during such a solemn moment. I also don’t believe Stevie evolved and had a moment of clarity, like life’s just too short, after Tom died. I think she became even more entitled, myopic, and self focused as if she deserved to have Mike in FM due to her perceived suffering. After MusicCares, she gave the ultimatum and used him smirking during her speech about Tom as the reason. That makes perfect sense to Stevie. He disrespected her and dead Tom, so he deserves what he gets and she deserves Mike in the band because her good friend died and by God she could die too! The fact Chris and Mick were dancing and laughing is irrelevant; they weren’t in her way. In her primitive way of thinking, it made perfect sense. She believes she’s playing homage to the dead and suppresses the fact Tom Petty had nothing to do with FM and she is trampling on a living human being who had everything to do with FM. The bottom line, I believe she felt entitled and demanded to get her way because she has irrational reactions to unexpected losses, while Mick, then the others, acquiesced and followed along due to the oldest reason of all, greed. That’s why they can’t explain it to save their lives. They would if they could as they clearly have no problem throwing Lindsey under the bus. They can’t explain their reason but work hard to justify the decision, failing each time. JMO.

The issue is that they have more then enough songs in their own catalog to play.
Be that as they may, they were never not going to do DDIO and at least one Tom Petty song, otherwise why go through the trouble of getting those guys? They did Dave Mason/Traffic/Delaney & Bonnie songs during the 94-95 shows.
If you have to play a cover song to bring in Petty fans then that tells me you were not confident your own catalog would fill the seats with a key member missing.
They didn’t need to do a Petty song no more than he needed to cover “Oh Well” during his shows, but it would have been weirder having Mike and Stevie in the same band and not do at least one of Tom’s songs. And, they knew they were going to lose some fans, which is exactly why they brought in guys with their own proven track records and fan bases.

My only issue with that is it makes zero sense.
If she needed a public connection with Mike et.al. and Lindsey wanted a delay, wouldn’t it have made more sense for her to go with the delay and do something else with the surviving Heartbreakers?

I think to her though Lindsey had to go no matter what. She has a history of making impulsive decisions like marrying her late friends husband. By bringing MC into FM she thinks she is helping a friend or whatever.

I also think she wanted to be surrounded only be people who would say "yes" to her and Lindsey was the only person left in her life who occasionally said "no." Removing him and replacing him with Campbell meant a tour where no one would dare challenge the queen. All are keen to keep Miss Moneymaker smiling.
It seems Mick and Christine are right alongside Karen at this point: doing whatever they have to do to keep the boss happy in order to keep the money coming.

This is really interesting. I hadn't really thought about their lies being because they don't understand Stevie and her bouts of temporary insanity. I just assumed it was to protect their images. Maybe it's a combo?

I always liked it when they played "Stand Back".
It gave me a chance to buy a beer and visit the men's room, knowing that I wasn't missing anything.

I'll give the devil her due there . She really knew what to do with herself and it is paying off to this day.
although actually, a whole lot of her image is due to iconic photos taken by Herbie. Live performances, especially back in the 70s, evaporated into the ether the minute they were done... no one had cell phones, live streaming, etc. Yes there are bootlegs of concerts (a lot of them where she sounds baaaad or drunk or whatever) but those images... he took some fantastic images of her live and backstage etc, and then TAUGHT her a lot about how to be photographed etc. And then of course she stayed up all night on coke taking picture after picture of herself, like Narcissus looking at his reflection....
So yes, her onstage performances and costumes and the romantic lyrics are definitely hers, but in their raw form they wouldn't have gotten her as far. She had a lot of help (as most artists do) in turning the raw material (be that her songs, her image, etc) into iconic stuff. And then Jimmy (with Paul Fishkin and Danny Goldberg) took it the next step with her solo work trying to give her a "harder" edge, a more mainstream sound.

Stevie’s one of your faves but you don’t want her to be happy? She clearly doesn’t want to work with LB and I can respect that. Life goes on.
