When I read those first words, "I'm sad to say..." and saw Lindsey's pic, my heart stopped. I was certainly not expecting this.

This is a tough period for Lindsey and his family. I hope they are ok, emotionally and physically.

I don't even wanna talk about that woman. She's on tour being happy. She finally got what she wanted. Please, leave it at that.

I agree. If anyone finds out where we can send well wishes to Lindsey, please post it here. I'm sure someone will if that information become available.

I knew that a day like this would come eventually and will never be prepared for it. Incredibly thankful that he’s still with us. Can’t imagine what his family is going through right now.

This hit me really hard. It’s going to be with me for a while. Speaks volumes for how his music has affected my life. I’m certain that I’m not alone...

Maybe the members of the band might actually think to reach out to him. After something like this, it just goes to show that you never know when it might be too late.

It hit me really hard too, and all I care about is his and his family's recovery. :(:(:(

His tour can wait. His former band members: I don't care.

Besides hoping for a full recovery as soon as possible, I hope the trauma to his vocal chords is just temporary. I also can't help but wonder what might have happened if he had toured with FM. All that stress... It might have just saved his life to have been doing the things he's done on his own terms (somewhat) this year. Brightest blessings to all.

Praying for a speedy and full recovery
So scary. This was always Lindsey's deep fear after losing his father and brother at young ages to sudden heart problems.
God Bless you Lindsey
We love you very much!

I just saw her post and am SO GRATEFUL that he seems to be recovering... WOW, SO SCARY and shocking... Life is short and none of us know which sunrise will be our last. What a shock for him and his family. Thinking of them...

Guy's always been an unstoppable dynamo onstage, so maybe his recovery will be all the speedier.

Such a shock to read this. I sure hope he recovers fully. He looked/sounded so great on Nov 30 when I saw his show in PA. Thank goodness he sought medical care and seems to be on the mend.

I had tickets to see Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz in June of 2018, and the show was cancelled last minute because Mike had to have emergency heart surgery, also. I bring it up because Mike is back on the road and looking/sounding great, and says he's feeling so much better than the weeks before the problem was found, so we can only hope Lindsey's recovery goes just as well, also.

Good Lord. Thought he looked off over the past year or so. Hope he will be OK but the vocal cord damage is scary for a seventy-year-old.

Based on the bandage and bruising, looks like he had to have a Tracheotomy. Quite possible he wasn't breathing at some point. God Bless Lindsey 🙏 😇 ❤️

Poor Lindsey - what horrible news to see today. Sending tons of good vibes to him and his family for a successful and speedy recovery. These guys seem larger than life and invincible and the sad reality of life is none of us are.

I'm glad he's alive and with his family and true friends. The rest is just background noise.

I don't doubt the sincerity of their statement. Deciding not to tour with him is not the same thing as wishing sickness or death on him.

I am glad to hear this about Dolenz. I was wondering if Lindsey made a full recovery, if he could still get insurance needed to tour. I guess he can. His vocal chords are another matter. Will power won’t help them. We have mocked his speeches before, but what I wouldn’t give to hear him drone on about cycles now. As for his singing voice, I have had complaints about his whisper croaking for a long time now. So, I will take that with gratitude.

They didn’t give him a reason on why they didn’t want to tour with him, did they? Hell, they didn’t even meet with him to tell him he was fired, so yeah, I totally doubt of the sincerity of this copy and paste cold message.

Same here. I thought about him having a heart attack onstage or something.... christ. Glad he's at home and progressing well.

No but we do know Stevie does intend to dance around her apartment for 10 years. Lindsey was a clear and present danger to achieving that. This message is about as sincere as the "thoughts and prayers" crap that gets put out by every politician when anything happens.

Thank god he has Kristen.

2018 - taking a stock for LB & LB fans

2018 taught me to appreciate Lindsey more. His firing forced me to take a closer look at his skill set, and I came away an even bigger fan than before.

I had not listened to Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie, Seeds We Sow, Songs From The Small Machine, or One Man Show. With the exception of the 50% of OMS that is unavailable, I am now familiar with all of these. I also listened for the first time to the bootleg GOS material (thanks to you kind folks who referred me to it after I bumped up an 18-year-old thread). What a treat "Singer, Not The Song" is.

I even checked out the Walter Egan records he produced.

I now find myself a much more educated and appreciative Lindsey Buckingham fan.

Thanks, Fleetwood Mac, for making that happen.

I'll second that sentiment. Let's be positive and hope and pray for the best.

Get well Linds.

Nick do you have any idea what a broken heart and stress can do to a person? I am putting SOME of the blame right at the witch's feet.

Thinking the same thing. He'll still have his magic hands but the combination of his playing and singing is truly special. Lifting Lindsey and his family up in prayer.

This is weighing on me so heavily. How incredible it is to have a person ice only ever met once to have such an impact on my life.

I pray that he gets well, his health and family are most important.

I will say, for open heart surgery, he doesn’t look too bad!

So sorry to hear about Lindsey. What a year this man and his family have had. So glad he is recovering. I pray his voice returns.

I hope Stevie and Mick take some time to think about this past year also and maybe reach out to Lindsey. Stevie has a lot to thank Lindsey for in her life and career. We'll see.

At worst, we will finally get to hear his side of the story with a book.

If god forbid he can't sing and perform as he could, I'd love to see him transition to producing other artists.

Thank goodness Lindsey survived this awful health scare. Hoping for a speedy full recovery

I'm not sure if he will even want to stay active as a musician. Such an experience will change your focus. While I really hope that he will fully recover, I'm not even sure if that is possible. He is not a young man - we forget that, because he is so enthusiastic on stage and so full of energy. My Dad was 68, (a non-smoker who did sport and according to his doctor was in great health) when he had his heart attack, he had open heart surgery as well and he recovered. He was a bit more careful with stress after that, but went on doing what he always did, only to have a devastating stroke that left him paralyzed and without any ability to speak or understand language. He lived for 8 more years, we'll never know how much he suffered, he couldn't tell us. I don't wish that on anyone. So - I would like Lindsey to slow down considerable, enjoying a life outside the demands of the music industry.

What really follows me is that Lindsey likely would be dead if he would have been on tour with FM. Collapsed in a hotel room in Denver or Houston, with noone around him.

Maybe being at home just saved his life.

Maybe not. Maybe getting kicked out of a band for smirking and going through a lawsuit was sooo stressful that it hurt his heart. Or maybe the old witch put a death spell on him.

I think we are all very fortunate that he made it through. Not being in the big machine right now is probably a good thing. Who needs a long tour? I'm looking forward to whatever he decides to do next - whether it's touring, production, or even something online. Go Lindsey!

I'm sorry to hear what your father (and you and family) went through.

I also hope that Lindsey is able to slow down and enjoy the precious gift of life with his beautiful family. Music is an incredible gift, but life? As Tyrion Lannister said in the first season of GoT, "Death is so final. Whereas life? Life is so full of possibilities." I'm so grateful he is still here.

Such a scary thought to think of this happening on the FM tour. I do agree the stress of the last year contributed (how could it not?) but the thought of him being alone in a hotel room with no family around is too terrible to ponder for long. Thank God he was home with family to help and care and love him.

Failing all else, Lindsey could take to his natural habitat and produce other artists.

As for all this conjecture: Since we can only speculate about what would have happened in either scenario, let's be thankful Lindsey found himself in the one where we know he survived.

I kinda like the idea of him taking time to reflect and write a book. I never really saw him as the type, but after watching him and hearing him speak over the last year or so, I think he just could.

Lindsey Buckingham Suffers Vocal Cord Damage From Emergency Surgery
Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist recuperating at home after open heart surgery

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham underwent emergency open heart surgery last week and is now recuperating at his home. “Each day he is stronger than the last,” his wife Kristen Buckingham wrote in a statement. “While he and his heart are doing well, the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.”

Buckingham was forced out of Fleetwood Mac last year when Stevie Nicks made it clear to the rest of the band that she could no longer work with him. “After 43 years and the finish line so clearly in sight, it’s hard to escape the conclusion that for the five of us to splinter part would be the wrong thing,” Buckingham wrote in an e-mail to group co-founder leader Mick Fleetwood after learning the news. “At the moment, the band’s heart and soul has been diminished. But out center, which has seen us through so much, is only laying dormant.”

The appeal didn’t work and the band brought on Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to replace him. Buckingham sued the band over the termination, though they settled out of court. The guitarist spent the last few months playing solo gigs to promote his new three-disc set Solo Anthology: The Best of Lindsey Buckingham.

“This past year has been a very stressful and difficult year for our family to say the least,” Kristen Buckingham wrote. “But despite all of this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. We feel so fortunate that he’s alive. As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him. Needless to say, all touring and shows currently schedule have been put on pause for the moment as he gathers the strength to heal completely.”

Except for the “death spell”, that’s exactly what came to my mind, too.

The hurt and pain on his face has been very clear over this past year. No one will ever know for sure, but with a lifelong career with your band ending like it did — that had to have had a massive physical impact on his body.

And of course all these people that have known him for the past 50+ years were aware of his family history, and YET they threw him away like an old dog without a logical explanation.

wouldn't put it past her
BUT

that is pretty evil
and if she did anything remotely like that she deserves to die in an horrific plane crash or something similiar

but totally agree if he was on tour with the "band" he would probably be dead in a hotel. and that is truly a depressing thought.

How stupid are you people? Even if she wanted LB out of the band, she already got her wish. Why would she want him to have a near death health issue? Your parents raised some f*cked up "kids". Sad thing is you're all 50-60. Just pathetic and embarrassing.

Ha, judgemental BS about Stevie Nicks is all the rage here. She's a "witch", casting "death spell", she wants Lindsey dead, she's dancing on stage during a concert (how bizarre) because she's happy his heart failed?

Judgemental BS. Your own words.

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist undergoes open heart surgery

In this Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 file photo, Lindsey Buckingham performs at The Wilbur Theatre on in Boston.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lindsey Buckingham underwent open heart surgery that left the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist with damaged vocal cords.

Buckingham’s publicist said in a statement Friday that he experienced chest pains last week and was taken to the hospital where he had the life-saving procedure. Buckingham is recovering at home with his family.

The 69-year-old rocker’s wife, Kristen Buckingham, said on social media that it’s unclear if the damage after the surgery is permanent. She says the past year has been stressful, but she is thankful her husband is still alive.

Last year, Buckingham sued Fleetwood Mac after being kicked off the band’s new tour.

Ex-Fleetwood Mac Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham Suffers Vocal Cord Damage
The 69-year-old is currently recuperating after undergoing emergency open heart surgery last week.

By David Barden

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has suffered vocal cord damage after undergoing emergency open heart surgery last week.

Buckingham’s wife, Kristen, said that while the rock legend “and his heart are doing well,” it remains unclear whether or not the damage to his vocal cords is permanent, though she is “hopeful it is not.”

“Needless to say, all touring and shows currently scheduled have been put on pause for the moment as he gathers the strength to heal completely,” she wrote in an Instagram post Friday.

The 69-year-old, who helped propel Fleetwood Mac to international fame by writing and singing such notable hits as “Go Your Own Way” and “Tusk”, was kicked off the band’s world tour last year without any formal explanation.

In October, Buckingham announced he was suing his former bandmates for his dismissal, claiming that he should still be entitled to his share of tour revenues because he still wants to be in the group.

“This past year has been a very stressful and difficult year for our family to say the least,” Kristen Buckingham said. “But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. We feel so fortunate he’s alive. As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him.”

Ha, judgemental BS about Stevie Nicks is all the rage here. She's a "witch", casting "death spell", she wants Lindsey dead, she's dancing on stage during a concert (how bizarre) because she's happy his heart failed?

Judgemental BS. Your own words.

If you don't like it, go back to Stevieland. No one is forcing you to stay here.

Nothing he said was really supporting Stevie over Lindsey. He was just bringing some common sense to this thread.

This thread is about Lindsey, no Stevie. So, please, go away to Stevieland to live happily ever after.

Lindsey Buckingham is recovering from open heart surgery after an operation last week, as confirmed by his wife, interior designer Kristen Buckingham. “While he and his heart are doing well,” she writes, “the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. While it is unclear if this damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.” She adds that Buckingham’s tour behind last year’s Solo Anthology - The Best of Lindsey Buckingham has been “put on pause for the moment as he gathers the strength to heal completely.” Below, read the full note, along with a statement from Buckingham’s representatives.

We can't thank you enough for love and support during this time XO❤️

Late last week Lindsey Buckingham experienced severe chest pains and was taken to the hospital where he subsequently underwent emergency open heart surgery. It’s with great relief and thankful hearts that we report the surgery was successful in its purpose. Unfortunately, the life-saving procedure caused vocal cord damage, the permanency of which is unclear. Lindsey is slowly recovering at home with the support of his wife and children. ᐧ

How stupid are you people? Your parents raised some f*cked up "kids". Sad thing is you're all 50-60. Just pathetic and embarrassing.

How stupid are you to keep posting in a forum where no-one gives an actual $#!t about your commentary? And where you keep coming to stir up trouble?

pretty sure there aren't that many people on this forum that old  and if there is, well they have a very young vibe

What's going on, people!! Not enough with all he had last year with FM, now this!!
Hopefully, he's recovering right and is with Kristen and his family.
But I'm still worried about Lindsey's health, now more that we know that the surgery left a vocal cord damage. I only want to see him really good!!
Get well soon Lindsey, please!!

Wishing him a speedy recovery. Wise words from Kristen to encourage people to keep on top of check ups, especially with family history.

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist undergoes open heart surgery

First I'm seeing this detail... So he felt the pain/maybe recognized the signs and went to get checked out. (Although "was taken" can mean a few different things). Anyway, thank goodness they caught it in time. Thanks for posting these, Elle.

Same! I keep scouring the internet for more info and I am glad that it appears he/they recognized the signs and reacted correctly. Too many people pass it off and do nothing!

I hadn't seen that before either. I want to know - was he taken to the hospital in a car by his family after feeling some pain? Or in an ambulance after a severe episode? I guess I just want to be reassured that it wasn't as bad as I initially envisioned (although bad enough).

My guess is that Beautiful Child was correct about the tracheotomy. His face also looks swollen. They probably had to assault him a bit to perform revival efforts and bring him back around.

The paramedics would not be the first to want to beat him up. Thanks for saving his life.

That's the worst part. People I thought were never gonna say anything about Lindsey are really surprising me.

I gave Stevie and Christine their last chance last night. Not that they care, of course. I was only doing it because that's what Lindsey wants to feel happy again. Not anymore.

While I would never defend their behavior....people go to a concert to have a good time. IF he had quit the group, I can see them mentioning his heart attack. HOWEVER, given that that nasty old goat fired him, them mentioning it brings up the true ugliness, that is $tevie Nick$' heart. It would broach the subject they're desperately trying to hide.

I say this fully aware that it's not really a fair thing to say, but I woke up this morning to a video in my Instagram feed of Stevie doing the "crack head dance" in Austin the previous night. I know they have tour dates scheduled and obligations to fulfill, which is why what I'm about to say is not fair, but man... it really disgusted me. They of course have to keep performing and I saw on Facebook that Neil and Mick made mention of Lindsey at different points in the show, but there was just something about her gyrating and whatnot that really bugged me. Maybe it's the fact that she's talked about that as if it's some sort of gift she's giving the audience... "I do it every night, and it breaks my back..." Oy.

I'm not saying any of this to throw another log on the anti-Stevie pyre... there's enough of that already. But as a longtime fan of this band and the people in it, I never thought I'd come to feel the way I do about them.

I feel the same way, it's like a mourning process over the people you thought a certain way about, and then they completely blindside you. Pure disappointment.

It's akin to having a really good friend do something horrible that you never thought in a million years they would do. And you are so shocked and disappointed and mortified and angry, that you feel so let down.

They may be human, and have faults, and I don't really know them, but common decency was one thing I thought they did have, and that seems to be not the case. And it seems to be "not the case" over and over and over, with no end in sight.

I noticed the same thing, and that's probably what goes on at every concert but yesterday night it was the first time I had the stomach to watch some songs, many of them from Stevie. It was a disturbing thing. :distress::distress:

She stated so many times that if one of them were on their death bed the other one would be the first one to be at their side. Hard to believe it now…

What really follows me is that Lindsey likely would be dead if he would have been on tour with FM.

it could have happened 5 years ago or 5 years from now. it happened NOW for a reason. after a long highly stressful year. if he was now on tour with FM, like he was in 2013, or 2014 or 2015, he'd have his normal daily routine and probably be just fine, and this would maybe happen few years from now. or not.

we can never know. but we cannot pretend timing has nothing to do with what he went through last year. this happened exactly almost to the day a year since his ouster.

I can't think of a situation where they'd do a trach unless they were unable to place the ET tube. The bandage looks more like he either had a central line (that's a common place for insertion) or possibly a carotid endarterectomy or stent. Most people who are bad off enough for open heart also have carotid occlusion. Also a trach would not have damaged his vocal cords, unless whoever performed it was a total hack, but the ET tube very often causes cord inflammation and though rare, permanent damage from scarring.
As always, this is just my opinion as I actually have no idea what's under the bandage, but if you can't speculate here...

Speaking of speculating, why hasn't anyone brought up the possibility that the time Stevie spent with Chrissie Hynde influenced her decision to fire Lindsey?

I don't think FM has ever even been on her radar according to what she's said, but she wears the crescent moon Stevie gave her, which honestly is odd to me because it wouldn't appear they'd have anything in common. But Chrissie is a badass, her favorite word is f-off, and she is the LEADER of her band - regardless of who's in it. She's had no problem making a record under the Pretenders name without any original band member besides herself - and good for her!! She's a woman who knows her own mind. I'm just kind of making up that she instilled some F-off badassery in Nick's. This is probably total bullshirt, but it's crossed my mind, between that and Tom dying. Who knows, but given LB's "transgression" the reaction was over the top, even for her. I can just imagine Chrissie saying "is it your band or not? If you don't like how it's going tell them to f-off! If you don't like Lindsey running the show, tell them it's him or you! Now F-off girl, you're starting to piss me off!"

All else aside, I think you greatly overestimate the degree to which these acts even speak with one another on the road. Plus, Stevie's not likely to have taken such life changing advice from a stranger.

I saw an interview with Chrissie (from before she and Nicks ever toured together) where she gently disparaged FM, saying that the music scene from which the Pretenders emerged was a reaction to music like FM that they didn't find particularly appealing (she specified FM).

she was sexually assaulted by some guys in or around a biker gang she had fallen in with during her younger days. She caused quite a stir within the MeToo community by writing in her book that she blamed herself for the assault, saying she was stupid for having gotten involved with them in the first place. The MeToo movement pushed back on her saying if someone rapes you it's not your fault, it's THEIR fault for doing it.

this makes it sound like it was a rash, spur of the moment, spontaneous thing. it was not. and if it were, others should have talked her off the cliff.

she wished him harm, revenge, whatever, and she - and Mick and the rest - behaved without much further thought. like he can take all of that and come out unscathed. i agree with you they didn't think it through. that doesn't excuse them for what they did though. just makes them self-absorbed or completely idiotic.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have tacked the conspiracy on to my post about his surgery. Bad form. But like you said, there are a ton of conspiracies on here as well as speculation on why he had this event at this time.
Food for thought maybe; years ago I was pregnant with my 3rd baby and was also going to college (did everything backwards). I had a PE class called "fit for life" that was taught by a former marine. Super ripped, vegetarian (it was the early 80's) and he talked about how he lost both parents to heart disease and that's why he took such good care of himself. He'd berate me for the amount of weight I'd gained and make me walk the outside track with other "heavy people" while he trained the rest of the class inside the gym. About 3 weeks into the class, I was walking back to the gym after waddling around the track and out comes a student with blood all over his face, screaming for help. Apparently the teacher had suffered a fatal heart attack in the gym in front of the class and this kid tried to give him CPR, but because the guy fell forward, he broke his nose and was bleeding all over. I lived in California at the time and we all had to get counseling for it.
My point is that when you have heart disease in your family, more than likely you are a ticking time bomb. No one can say if stress played a part, or if it would have happened anyway. I'm just very happy he made it to the hospital in time.
If you have stuff that runs in your family, especially diseases that cause early death, go get checked out and be very thorough in what you tell the Doc (not all the people who ask a ton of questions before the Doc comes in.)
Sorry for the book.

[QUOTE=elle;1248860]this makes it sound like it was a rash, spur of the moment, spontaneous thing. it was not. and if it were, others should have talked her off the cliff.

I had previously answered this post. Don't know where it went. Anyhow, it may have not been a rash decision but it was made from emotion. The others should have intervened and not given in to her. They're all to blame for this mess. Christine included!

Heredity does seem to play a huge part! The former marine did everything he could to prevent an early death but still his clean living didn't prevent it. I'm currently grappling with high blood pressure issues. My dad died at 66 from a stroke. So I'm worried. I'm 55 and I've never taken care of myself. Looks like I'm going to have to start. My dr's appointment is set for Wednesday.

What amuses me is the exchanges we’ve had over the years. Lindsey told Stevie she looked like a Vegas act taking her mic off the stand and that was the cruelest thing in the world and traumatized her to an extent she never takes the mic off the stand in this life or the next.

So to me, Lindsey comparing her to Sammy Davis, Jr. is nbd, But her fans say, “Oh, it’s the WAY he talked about her mic stand. He pushes her buttons. It’s DEVASTATING.”

Cut to her throwing him out of the band he has given his life to for 40 years, in the coldest, most calculating way possible and her fans are, “why should that have caused him stress???”

Second story: An ex coworker started writing about the illumanati on Instagram and how we were all in it. Guess where he is now? He lost EVERYTHING (including his wife and daughter) and is roaming the streets completely insane. He threatened to kill everyone at my company because he thought we were illumanti.

Really!! I'd like to know what was the straw that finally broke the old goat's back?! How bad could it have been? Was it just a culmination of years and years of being around Lindsey that she had had enough? That her tolerance of Lindsey had reached a new low? But even then to just axe him with no formal explanation from the band face to face is just beyond comprehension!! WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!! And then to think they're raking in millions of dollars on a tour with a setlist including a majority of the songs that Lindsey helped craft is just gut wrenching to me! This is all just so sickening and wrong.

I agree they handled things quite badly, but truth be told we have no idea what Lindsey was like behind closed doors. We don't know what Stevie had been putting up with, and frankly it's none of our business.

So while I don't blame Stevie or the band for choosing to end things with Lindsey, I absolutely do take issue with them for carrying on as Fleetwood Mac without him. After 1997, the band had no business excluding any Rumours member willing and able to participate.

I'm just surprised that Lindsey wasn't a full partner immune from firing. I wonder whether he tried to negotiate for such an arrangement when he rejoined in 1997. He certainly should have.

Does anyone know who was managing him in 1997? (We know from the Destiny Rules documentary that Tony Dimitriades was managing him in 2002, but that's five years later.)

I've thought about that at times also. Was Lindsey abusive to Stevie and that's why he was let go? But why even keep it secret? He has always been known as volatile. Lindsey's lawsuit (https://www.scribd.com/document/390686837/Lindsey-Buckingham-Fleetwood-Mac-Complaint) against the band seems to indicate the legal infrastructure of the band was more or less an ad hoc document for each specific tour. At least that's my reading of it.

Or they've been pretending to be volatile. Or they've been convinced by their own myth that they're volatile, and have only acted out on that.

Imagine in an alternative reality that the band's audience had invested more interest in the music and the instrumental and vocal craft of Fleetwood Mac than in the epic psychodrama. Would there have even been an epic psychodrama? The latter is like the Iliad; after fifty years, no one knows whether it started as true and degenerated, or whether it was originally written by a single visionary and then picked up by an oracular committee of fellow bandmembers and rock press, or whether the it is the only actual, verifiable truth about the band—all those other stories about them playing instruments in a cool way or singing in weirdly wondrous three-part harmony being just press agent fluff.

You say FM fired Lindsey for no good reason, but in their eyes, they obviously felt they had good reason to, otherwise they wouldn't have.

You say that after they fired Lindsey, FM became a stale nostalgia act. Isn't that what they've been for the most part since 1996? With the exception of the Say You Will tour, every tour since was just that, yet you say they only became a stale nostalgia act once Lindsey was fired. Lindsey may have wanted to record new music, but he was just as fine touring without it as the other members were, or he wouldn't have done it. And he did so, several times.

After hearing Say You Will and the EP, I would much rather hear deep cuts than new music. Deep cuts performed live is like performing new songs, only better, because they were recorded when the band were at their creative peak.

Yes, FM is all about the money. So is Lindsey- that's why he sued them for millions of dollars, because they cut him out of the tour. The same tour you say was a stale nostalgia act resting on the same 10-15 songs they always do. Lindsey wanted to be a part of that stale nostalgia act. I can't criticize anyone for wanting to make money, not Fleetwood Mac and not Lindsey.

Bravo! I sometimes think I'm weird because my interest in this band stems from my love of their music, and not some voyeuristic obsession with the personal relationships within the band.

The biggest thing to come to terms with is essentially what a bunch of sh*theads they truly are at the end of the day. Lindsey, while may not have been a peach back in the day (along with all of the others)....he clearly is the only one that has any heart left in the game. I believe in the past couple of years he thought it was mutual, sadly he found out he was alone in his love for the other 4 members of that band.

The music is great and stands on its own. I still appreciate it independently, but it would not have resonated with me so deeply and so long if I did not imagine there was underlying emotion that gave both the words and the chords pathos in my mind.

When the Dance dvd came out I replayed it so often. Lindsey back with the band. At his mic singing looking at Stevie. Away from his mic playing, looking at Chris behind her piano, musicians in synch. On tour, sometimes when Mick introduced Lindsey, Lindsey would glide out of the wings into Mick’s embrace. That sort of thing made The Chain more anthem than song, more creed than anthem. To me, I guess music just means more, muddled with imagined feelings.

Same here. I missed watching The Dance so much, but I'm not ready yet. :distress::distress:

The Chain is their anthem, no doubt. And they're now singing it without any worries in the world. They simply don't care.

When they came back in 1997, ALL of the FAKE loving/hand holding/etc...made me want to VOMIT.

I can't think of ANYTHING more disrespectful to Kristen, and I have no idea why she would have allowed it. Completely disrespectful.

Nauseating indeed. It was an insult to the fans, to the truth, and to the sanctity of Lindsey's committed relationship (whether Kristen was okay with it or not). It was also an insult to the music, as it suggested they felt the music couldn't stand on its own and needed the support of a fictitious narrative.

I don’t know what the status of his relationship was or how committed in those early days, just that Will was born the following year.

Besides, although people delighted in the small nuances and gestures, Lindsey and Stevie were not doing anything overt. It’s not as if he was thrusting his tongue down her throat every night.

When Christine first returned and they gave the initial interview with all five of them, I remember a point where Christine grabbed Lindsey‘s hand and kissed it. PDA among show biz people tends to be normal. In fact, for most of the Dance tour (until the last few shows), when they took the stage for their final bows, Lindsey and Christine would walk right into each other’s arms and kiss, which is something Stevie and Lindsay never did. But people never made a fuss about Lindsey and Christine because they didn’t have a romantic history.

Oh, I know exactly when she was pregnant and when he was born and Stella was born during the SYW tour.

I believe it was Ken who said that the first pregnancy was a surprise and Lindsey was not ready to become a father at that time and it was not until the baby was born that he fell deeply in love with it.

I don’t think it was insulting to Kristen or that holding hands is that big a deal. I don’t think the suggestion of ongoing passion was that obvious, except for those looking for it. I think you were a closet shipper, David. Thst’s why every glance had such an impact on you.

I think some of Lindsey’s song lyrics, like Castaway Dreams, could have bothered me, if I were in Kristen’s place, though.

But stage wise, I think the most mushy they got was at the end of Sara. They played things up to spark audience reaction and Lindsey conceded it when he said Mick and Stevie had a plan to push their mics closer together.

Yet, going back to Disney’s Going Home, they were holding hands at the Clinton event and that is before I think anyone thought to stage it. It just happened. Christine and John held hands as well.

I'm still not exactly sure what happened during that time. Weren't Stevie and Lindsey kind of rekindling things? Or was that all purely for show?

Or, as it felt to me, maybe there was actual emotional connections being re-established between them... and that maybe they both wanted to possibly get involved again, but then realized they couldn't? Or wouldn't allow it? I don't know what i'm trying to say

Closet shipper? LOL. Now that's a first! Actually, I think when The Dance came around, was when my dislike for her began. Then, by SYW(I've never been a fan of it), I'd lost pretty much all respect for her. Monotonic singing, and lame assed songs. Even Lindsey couldn't save most of them.

It's a shame that they had to resort to theatrics, to sell their wares.

I liked much of SYW and I loved Her Thrown Down and EFO, but the back-to-back tyranny of the dreadful Running Through the Garden and Silver Girl was a lot to overcome.

If Stevie did visit Lindsey during his recovery, I’d be very interested in her description of their time together. I trust she would not give him an iPod with downloads of her songs, as she does the soldiers. I remember when she discussed visiting Robin in the hospital in those final days, she made that all about herself, too. Although in that case, I think Robin could appreciate a little levity and lightness at that time as Stevie observed that her temperature was actually higher than Robin’s. I think if Macsters had gone to Lindsey soon after his surgery that they could have brought some happiness to him. Indon’t Mean declarations of love, just a spot of humor can be very healing.

Ugh, the intense scorn being heaped upon "shippers" (I've always despised that term) makes me loath to even post, but this. The conclusions being drawn from their behavior during The Dance were hardly being crafted from thin air. There were videos such as Landover, and other off-stage behaviors... not to mention their own words.

I am trying to convince no one, nor do I have any desire to enter into a debate. I know I am inviting ridicule from certain quarters. However, I felt the need to reinforce michele's perspective of what it was like back then.

Few would characterize me as a person lacking in discernment, yet I found sufficient basis for the belief that it was more than just a show.

It's hard to talk about it now. Indeed, I have no wish to do so. But the recent trend of ugliness directed at "shippers" has forced me to speak up.

It makes me want to change my avatar back to a Stevie/Lindsey moment just as a "thank you."

Count me among the fans that also believe it was not a show during The Dance. And not because of what happened at Landover, because that could have been staged, but you could see it in interviews, pics, behind the scenes. There was a look of adoration in Lindsey's eyes every time he looked at Stevie. And I don't think it was fake.

And that's why like you said, it's very hard to talk about it now, and to see how damaged their relationship is.

And it's not very hard, at least for me, to be mad at her.

I understand what you're saying/feeling. When you're around an ex after an extended time apart there can be sparks and chemistry regardless, especially when you have such a (public!) history and everyone knows your dirty laundry. Even (especially?) if you're in other relationships, the sparks and flirtations are likely (even just innocent ones)... it almost emboldens you because you feel protected and safe in limited flirtations (I'm sure it was tough for Kristen but she also understands the history). Plus they knew the fans would go nuts. Solid mix of organic and staged chemistry.

Yes, I’m sure no one called, no one emailed or texted and certainly no one visited. But while I think about Lindsey I also have to step back and wonder what John’s experience was. For me, they continued to look so upbeat after his cancer was announced that it made me feel they knew that it was not life-threatening. I made my prognosis about his condition from their behavior. But now that I know more about them, maybe they just didn’t care one way or another, if John lived or died and that’s why they remained so happy.

My mind always goes to this one when people talk about Stevie & Lindsey in 1997. I'm not going to claim to know what was in their minds and hearts at this point, but what they're saying about one another and their body language is certainly warmer than perhaps at any other point in the band's history? I agree that the stage stuff is easily manufactured, but this seemed genuine if only because weren't able to "fake it" this good before or since.

Exactly lol. I don't doubt he was violent and verbally abusive in the past (granted she probably was as well), but I genuinely think it got to the point where it created such a sensitivity chip that any little thing he did was magnified. Like the stupid 'Bob Dylan' thing.

Honestly as much as I always appreciated their dynamic I never bought into this theory. I think they were probably at their friendliest during The Dance and that's why you could see them being more affectionate but I highly doubt anyone was trying to rekindle anything beyond maybe just reminiscing here and there. At that time Lindsey had officially become one of those old rock dudes pushing 50 that went for women in their 20s. I highly doubt he would've been interested in any woman actually his age lol, even if it was Stevie.

I also think the “sensitivity chip” was easily activated because over time their expectation of just how much deference was due to Stevie grew. The bigger Stevie’s ego got, the more shocked that he would DARE to speak or act as if they were equals appalled her.

She told him that the palm trees would hit him on the head if he didn’t learn to appreciate her celebrity and they did.

and possibly, although he didn't vent that publicly like she did every chance she got and he didn't use it as a fodder to try to catapult her out of the band - the other way around. we can easily imagine he'd get annoyed by little passive aggressive things she would say or do, either directly or through Karen, and overreact just like she does. Destiny Rules doc indicates some of that. the difference is she likes to use it to make him look bad publicly.

Very true, and really gracious of her to reply to his fans.

You're right elle, it's a whole lot of work and dr appts and physical therapy or whatever else on their plate to manage every day.

I imagine he's not the type of person who likes being unable to do what he wants to do so I can understand the frustration bit. And of course as we get older our bodies take a bit longer to heal than they did in our 20s.

Even when the surgery is planned and there has been a bit of time to prepare (mentally and physically), it’s a difficult recovery. I’m sure having it happen under emergency circumstances makes it an even greater challenge

Emotions are totally different. With a planned surgery, even though it's difficult for the patient and the family, you have extra time to organize everything. When you undergo emergency surgery, emotions usually run higher. You move forward because you have to, and because you have to put a brave face in front of the patient, but on the inside you want to scream and go to bed and wake up the next year.

It's a great challenge not only for the patient but for the family as well. My sister underwent 1 emergency surgery and 12 planned, so my perspective is from the family side. Can't even imagine what's like on the patient side.

This week I spoke to a man who had a heart attack in December at only 45 years old. He was recovering well but was very fatigued. He said just walking up the stairs in his house exhausted him. He said he might have to get a stint.

He is a long haul trucker and, yes, he was under a lot of job stress when the heart attack occurred.

I never watched 90210, but I was shaken by Luke Perry’s death just because of his youth. Time has become such an enemy.

She has three neurological diseases and we were told many times that she’s way past her life expectancy. That’s why when I see people not wanting to talk to each other or to share the same stage ever again I wonder if they know how lucky they are for all those shared memories and how stupid they’re being now.

Thanks for your nice wishes. :)

i googled Walter Egan's open heart surgery - according to the article that came up he had a triple bypass on Oct 10, 2014. i do think his surgery was elective and not emergency though, just remembering from his facebook posts at the time. i saw him perform live in DC on 5/28/2015. less than 7 months after his open heart surgery. i asked him about the surgery too at the time. he was in great shape and seems to have been since.

I am optimistic about Lindsey’s heart and future vitality. I think he will recover because he’s stubborn and wants to prove a point. I am also excited about the insights and music these events will have inspired.

I am worried about his voice though. But goodness it can’t be worse than Elizabethtown.

Walter has also had hip replacement. He was even featured on billboards in Nashville(where he lives) for hip replacement.

you know, if his vocal cords were somehow additionally damaged beyond normal intubation side-effects, he might need a surgery to get them fixed if he wants to professionally sing again. and if i were in his place, his age and have the funds to easily retire, i don't know that i would opt for additional not medically necessary surgery on my head / neck.

Face it, retirement was on his horizons well before his heart surgery and vocal cord damage. He did one last brilliant solo tour to end it with a bang. He may have been thinking he would tour behind the album mooted for release next month (Will he still release that new studio album this April after all this drama?) ...but I really think any touring beyond this year would in his mind "be a bonus". He would be happy to do a USA tour in support of the new pop album and call it a day, happily retiring on his own terms at age 70, surely.

Same. I just want him to be happy AND away from all those nasty people. If he wants to tour, I'd be ecstatic, but if he can't tour anymore, and prefers to stay at home with his family, it will be fine too.

Unlike other people here that claim to love Lindsey, we truly care about him and want the best for him. And we know who's responsible for his current health state.

How do you think Lindsey feels about people blaming his ex-girlfriend for his poor health? I highly doubt he accepts that as a valid position, even though he is angry with Stevie and that is because although Lindsey is a class act, his fans are not. Yes he is in the worst health he has been in for years, but I will happily stand corrected that he has never once publicly blamed Stevie Nicks for his current health status.

It all ended after Musicares. More like after Tom Petty died. Once her "conscience", the only person, together with Lindsey, that had no fear of telling her she was doing things the wrong way, died, there was no more obstacles in the middle to finally put her plan in motion. It all adds up, for those who want to see beyond the glitter and the shawls and the stupid dance and tambourine.

Elle,

I like the "weird, almost standoffish, energy" from the review.

He is very weird. The guy on the cover of the Go Insane album. That encapsulates everything for me.

The guy at the Tusk photo shoot. Isolated, insular, but taking the time to fluff Christine's limp hair, when it's called for.

And All Over Again ... You know what, they were all angry when he left in 1987, but this time it's Stevie's vendetta and they're all just joining in and the firing would be the coup de grace for most people. How much more do you really need. But with them it's just one barb and jab after the other. I really can't get over it. I just can't.

i needed a sec to figure out what review and where is that phrase familiar from... i read those 2 reviews a while ago, through twitter, and found it funny that any leveled or slightly negative review of the show is NOT posted in the present band forum. so i figured for posterity, i'd post those latest 2.

seems that lately many reviewers actually post their own reviews, vs lazily pasting PR stuff they are served. i'm sure FM's publicists will be like flies on sh*t on NYC area reviewers to make sure they stick to the script this week.... and we will get more refreshed re-energized happy happy band reviews. but we'll see. depends on the reviewer i'm sure. these recent reviews describe the show as kinda flat but OK, and def missing LB. which seems about right.

yes re Christine and John. they are spineless lazy appeasers. they could have stopped Mick. but they didn't. and now, at least they can just coast but instead Chris is playing Stevie's game. so maybe she deserves Stevie stepping all over her as she and her publicists seem to.

Lindsey saying those people are weak, in different ways, was way too generous.

right?? that's just so unbelievable! i mean, how can they NOT stop??

there's nothing to get over when we get new material to be pi**ed about almost every day.

and i don't search for FM. i unfollowed most people on social media who still go to their shows so i don't have to see their crap. but i have LB searches. and when someone mentions him those interviews and reviews pop up on my social media. so i'm sure i'm seeing a minority of all the trash that the "new happy band" is throwing out there and it's still way too much.

On the bright side, he has the best medical care/doctors that money can guy. If anyone is going to make a full recovery, it's going to be someone who has a boatload of money.

I do think it is weird that I saw the best solo tour he's ever done AND met him, right before he got sick. When we first got the news, I took that as an omen. I was afraid that was going to be the last time I was going to see him. I felt like the universe had us meet because it knew he was going to be ill.

similar.... I had gone to prev tours but never met him. Almost didn't make it this time because I was horribly sick and couldn't fly.. changed dates of my flights twice before biting the bullet and flying a red-eye. If I hadn't, and he hadn't survived, I'd be devastated.

of course, Jagger didn't have open heart surgery, his surgery was minimally invasive.

Lindsey was closely monitoring his heart health, as far as we know, ever since his brother and father died of heart-related problems. he was well aware of his family history and that he has to watch it.

I don't know how closely he was monitoring it. He may have figured he had reached a certain age and made sure to eat healthy and thought maybe that took him out of the danger zone. On the other hand, I know to get tour insurance you have to have a physical. That's how they found Jagger's problem and I remember way back when that's how they found out Magic Johnson had HIV, an insurance check up for him to travel with the Lakers.

So to all the people who said FM SAVED Lindsey's life by firing him because he could have had a heart attack alone in his hotel room, or on stage, they actually may have almost killed him. If they didn't fire him, he would have had a physical before he went on tour and maybe they would have caught his issue earlier--like Jagger. I am sorry, had to go there

I am being slightly facetious given some of the comments around here when LB had his surgery. It may not have come off that way. That being said, and someone else may be able to correct me, because I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere the insurance requirement is due to the scope/scale and venues and/or promoter a larger tour (like an FM or Stones tour) would require the insurance/physical.
