I'm so sad/pissed off they took Storms off the set list for GYPSY.
:(
Gypsy is great but they play it every time. Even Stevie plays it at her own tours. It's such a shame they took off a really great song that they don't play frequently for GYPSY of all tracks. I would have loved to hear Storms it's easily my Top 5 FM song.
How about you guys?

I love Storms but in watching videos even people in the front were talking during Storms. :distress: People who have been to numerous shows are talking about how bad some of the audiences have been complete with one woman waving a $100 bill at Stevie to get her to come over to her  with Neil finally coming over, taking it looking at it and handing it back to her. Personally I felt Storms was too dirge like for this particular set of mostly up tempo songs. But dropping Hypnotized and I Got You is not a good move IMO. You have to keep playing the songs for them to find their audience. The reason a lot of people don't know Hypnotized is because they haven't played it in 40 years and you have a large segment of your audience that discovered you 20 years ago and don't even know that Mystery To Me exists. Hell, those kids don't even know what AOR was. Bummer for them. Anyway this is why historically I always go to opening night. I want to see the whole set. I'm kicking myself hard for not doing that this time. :(

Agree with dropping Storms for arena tour like this. Too slow and without dynamics. Would reserve that for a small acoustic set. Hypnotized is a solid song but also lacks dynamics so not great for an arena tour. I assume they dropped "I Got You" because Neil already has a song in the set and the band was trying to shorten the show or perhaps because Stevie felt that Neil was getting too much attention. That's a shame as it's a great song and a great crowd pleaser.

It’s too bad they pulled it from the set;
but this is a show for short attention spans and the hits.
It’s weird for me to imagine a Fleetwood Mac show without a single song from Tusk — easily their strongest body of work and an album that represents their creative peak.
But I’m also not sure I’d want to hear Storms without Lindsey on guitar.
I think it’s one of Stevie’s best songs - and one of her most uncommercial- which is probably why I’ve always loved it.

It’s amazing that with Stevie putting asses in seats and all the going on about how she’s the main draw, one of her most beautiful songs ever is cut from the set. I really don’t understand why they would do this. Challenge your damn audience for one song. They played it in 2009 and I sat there in Pittsburgh on opening night and didn’t see a major run to the bathrooms or people just randomly ignoring it. A Fleetwood Mac concert in 2018 with no songs from Tusk but with one from Time.

Storms is a great song and Stevie and the band also think its a great song. But clearly they were getting the deer in the headlights look from the audience. Sadly they dropped probably the 2 best songs: Storms and Hypnotized.

Every time a song gets dropped I remember how damn long the drum solo is. How that time could easily be used to fit Storms and Hypnotized in the set...or any number of songs that don't include Mick asking the audience if they're with him. Sigh.

Storms is a beautiful song but even I thought it was too slow for the live setting. What annoys me on every tour is the band telling some reporter how they rehearsed 60 songs and dwindled it down to the perfect setlist. To me that means if one song didn't work, replace it with another song and these musicians need to challenge themselves. They never do and it is frustrating for us diehards. If Storms doesn't work, try Angel. If that doesn't fly bring out Sister's of the Moon. A singer has to go out there and sell a song to their audience. Show the people how much you love to sing it the way you do when you perform Gold Dust Woman and it might make some people go out and buy an album just to hear that one song. I sometimes wish Bruce Springsteen was my favorite singer. Then I could go to 10 shows in a row and have a completely different song set each night. No wonder he sells out everywhere he plays.

The drum solo has been ridiculous and overplayed for decades. I know it’s Micks turn in the spotlight but please give it a rest. Hell, John barely gets three bars of that bass solo in The Chain (id rather listen to that repeated for 5 minutes than 10+ minutes of ARE YOU WITH ME!!??).

I would be more than happy to have Gold Dust Woman dropped in place of Storms, Hypnotized, anything. It's getting to be a bit much anymore and I'm not sure why some of the songs Mick and Stevie consider "MUST play" songs are on that list.
Sorry, but I felt Storms never worked done live, at least the way Stevie performs it. Not soft enough. I'll take Beautiful Child over Storms any day. The LIB performance is one of my favorite performances of all time.

Hypnotized was way too early in the set. It should be third or fourth towards the end of the main set.
Storms? Meh. I’d rather have had Straight Back, Freedom, or Sara.

I understand how you feel. On the Rumours tour The Chain was part of the encores. That song is so iconic for them. Not a good opener. It should be placed near the end of the show because so many people would be dying to hear it. During the first song of any live show, lots of people are still coming from the restrooms or the beer section weaving their way back to their seats.
I think The Chain is a great opener. So did LB.

Storms live needs LB harmonies. Storms on Unleashed tour and Beautiful Child on SYW tour with beautiful harmonies he pulled were gorgeous. record versions are more bland, for my taste, i don't enjoy them as much as those live versions.
Storms on this tour was like shouting - as you said - not soft enough, and no extra live harmonies.
it seems that when LB was FM's live musical director, especially the last 2 tours, would insist that deep cuts need to be kept in the set and presented to people, whether or not they are familiar. note that his songs were never dropped as the tours would go on (sometimes they'd be swapped for another one of his songs, like IKINW for BTLH on OWTS tour). he is not easily discouraged. Christine doesn't seem to be afraid of keeping unfamiliar songs or deep cuts either, even though she has by far the most hits of the 3 songwriters. Stevie has dropped several of her new songs on SYW tour (RTTG was performed once or twice, same with DR), not sure whether they were replaced with some other songs or purely dropped. the 2 FM tours i've seen - Live 2013 and OWTS 2014-2015, none of the songs were dropped in the course of the tour.

Has always annoyed me that those were dropped from the outset. But then again, so was Red Rover.
The way I see it, Stevie didn't give RTTG a chance because (if I'm correct) she just said "Here's a new song" and didn't give it any context. The way she used to introduce "Rhiannon" as being a song about a Welsh witch (sic)... that gave the narrative legs and helped people buy into the otherwise peculiar lyrics. Wasted opportunity with RTTG, given the great story behind it.
PS Same goes for Red Rover. I'm assuming that on the one or two times LB played it on the SYW tour, he didn't preface it with the current clear explanation of the lyrics, which is such a cool little story.

Agreed. I actually like the lyrics to RTTG quite a bit, all the stuff about Stevie comparing herself to a poison as she grows older, imprisoning others, having to come to understand herself, running towards what she knows is wrong, etc. It's a pretty cool window into her angst-y mind lol, especially given the period when it was written (1984 or so) at the height of her drug craze.
The problem is that the song was arranged strangely in both the RAL demo and SYW song. I still love it but I think both forms leave something to be desired. I thought the live clip we had came off very well. Would have loved to have seen it on the Live in Boston DVD.
I guess I should be grateful I went to the Chicago show. Storms sounded good--Stevie and Neil's vocals were good. I love this song. I was excited about Hypnotized cause I love this song too but missed Lindsey's singing on it. I Got You was one I could have done without--Stevie shouting the chorus.

If people can’t realize the treat of hearing one of Stevie/FM most gorgeous songs, they have no business being at the show. Just put on the greatest hits CD at home. So disrespectful of the band to walk out, talk, look bored during any song, especially Storms.

Can you - or someone who knows - tell me what happened with Red Rover on SYW tour? I’m still forever regretting not seeing that tour, for multiple reasons. My understanding is that SYW tour had several legs and some songs were swapped between the legs. Was Red Rover played on one leg and some other LB song on another?
I understand he also played it on UTS solo tour, at one of the legs? That’s the tour where he kept adding legs. But Red Rover is not on his Bass Hall DVD. And it is on his Soundstage, with that intro about gods pulling the plug on humans, and I think he used a very similar intro during STW leg?

They played Red Rover when I saw them in Camden in Sept of 2004. I wasn't a fan of that song at all but it sounded a lot better live. For some reason that show wasn't even close to a sell out but I had the toughest time finding good seats. That was the third time I saw them on the Say You Will Tour and you could tell they were worn out by then. The best shows were Pittsburgh & Toronto. Beautiful Child was the highlight for me besides hearing the new songs from Say You Will at the time.

So glad someone else was at the SYW Pittsburgh show! I've tried, for a looooong time, to track down a bootleg of that show. It was one of the best shows I've seen. And to be able to hear Destiny Rules before it went away was such a treat. A little sad I didn't catch the second leg at Blossom to catch Sara before it was tamed a bit. Pittsburgh...great show. And I'll be at tonight's show hoping they decide to put the set back together just for me...most likely in vain.

I don't know definitively, but my understanding was that Red Rover was pulled very early in the SYW tour, like RTTG and Destiny Rules. I may be wrong.
I can say for certain that none of those songs were played during the Australian leg of SYW (during which I went to four shows)... and that I Know I'm Not Wrong and Sara were only added in the second US leg that followed the Australian tour. :(
I was on an FM/LB hiatus between SYW and now, but your rundown of Red Rover's appearances since then gel with my understanding.
What a song. I'll never forget my first time listening to it on the Gift of Screws demos website back in the day. And I love it even more now because of the explanatory story.

I totally agree with you. It's been 15 years and I still talk about that Pittsburgh Say You Will show. I don't think anything could ever top that one. Did you have fun last night? My hubby and I had a blast as well as my in-laws. I still wish they would have kept in Storms, Hypnotized & I Got You though.

I know. Taku is incredible and deserves to have a moment but when I heard the World Turning drum solo was back I prayed that Mick wasn't spitting on people again. :o I like watching him play the ancient African talking drum just not for 20 minutes. Is he playing the African drum this time or is he doing the vest thing? I confess I haven't paid much attention to World Turning so far.

I was at Lindsey's Soundstage in Chicago and Red Rover was quite a treat. The audience was so still during that song it was almost like no one was breathing. The air in the studio was so dry that by then end the only thing I wanted was to find a giant glass of water and drink it. I wondered how he was able to keep singing because it was so dry.
I was at the opening night of the tour in Madison WI and I honestly cannot remember if Red Rover was played. I did get to see Running Through the Garden and thought it was incredible. Thank god because they dropped so many songs on that tour. Madison was a ball. We were sitting at the hotel bar first with Carl Stubner who shot the breeze with us like a regular guy and regaled us with a few tales about his other clients (Beyonce, Tommy Lee). Next the band walked in including Stevie with Karen carrying her dog. After that I got lost and starstruck in an elevator with Ray Lindsey. I can never remember what floor I'm on in hotels. Then Strandinthewind got one of the bodyguards drunk (I think it was the infamous Raoul) who then tried to hit on me. That's okay though because I'm sure he didn't strike out with every fan he met on that tour. ;) Those were some good times.
Actually I need to edit. I think it might have been Columbus, OH where I saw RTTG. Setlist doesn't list RTTG in Madison but I don't know how accurate that thing is. I do have the bootleg of Madison somewhere.

By now, I don't understand the Stevie bashing anymore. FM tours, they do great and they all seem happy. Lindsey is touring, he sounds great and seems happy.
It is over.
And it does not seem to hurt anyone that much anymore, either. It seems more and more possible that this turns out a good thing for everyone involved.
So if the people living the drama can move on, why can't this board?
Stevie herself now shoulders FM live, she takes responsiblitiy, works harder to make sure the fans have a good time. It's the first ime in decades that she doesn't play the victim. That's actually quite great.
Every member of the band takes some responibility for the situation, either through their actions, or through not acting in any way. We all have known for decades that Stevie had problems with Lindsey (their onstage-love-affair-nonsence notwithstanding). So why single her out as a traitor, when actually she was the only one talking about the bands problems before.

I think Fleetwood Mac XIV has a lot of things going for it, and it's not the first time that a firing or a blow-up has forced a change. Live, the act is good and I particularly like Mike Campbell's inflections- in an ideal world I would be very interested to see how Neil would mesh with Chris and Stevie in the studio. However, I am not kidding myself that this eventuality becomes a reality, given the age, health and egos of one or two of the band's members. Stevie will probably want her three years off, again. Will a tour in 2022 be credible, given these factors?
So it's not about that. It's how they got to this point. I love Lindsey's solo work and look forward to his next album very much, with the added bit of spleen that may emerge. It's just that with us having miraculously got Fleetwood Mac X back for a third run-around, this was no way for a band of this stature to find this detour away from the final sunset. I'm not over Stevie weaselling out of giving us the gift of a final album from those five people; that's why I'm not really over it and I don't expect everyone else to be either.

As promised earlier in this thread I went looking for bootlegs from the Say You Will Tour and found quite a few. I chose this one from early in the tour. It's Philadelphia, PA 5/19/03. It sounds good. A few things I noticed from a cursory listen: Stand Back seems like it's being played really fast. Lindsey struggles with the first verse of What's the World Coming To. The taper has two tracks of nothing but applause and that's how I labeled them.
I found only the first disc of the Madison show we talked about earlier. I'll keep looking for the other disc. I'm pretty sure I have Columbus, OH with all the dropped songs (Running Through the Garden, Destiny Rules, Don't Let Me Down Again) if anyone's interested.
One of the things I noticed about some of the SYW tour boots is that some of them are 3 discs.:shocked:

I think it will happen if Mike wants it. He holds the one card Stevie doesn’t, but wishes she did: The Heartbreakers. And, I think it will be more like 2020 when it wraps up, if it happens. Mick’s said “18 months” in his interviews. Thus far, the announcced dates only go out eight months.
It's just that with us having miraculously got Fleetwood Mac X back for a third run-around, this was no way for a band of this stature to find this detour away from the final sunset. I completely understand and don’t necessarily disagree, but I actually can’t imagine a more Fleetwood Mac ending. The biggest things they’re known for are tragically blown potential, drama, conflict, back-stabbing, and especially breaking up. A nice, happy, tidy, expected ending seems so antithetical to the Fleetwood Mac story.

A fine point, very well made.

You are most welcome. :wavey: I'm going to post one from 2004 when there's a different set list. So far, I've only found one that I like, Chula Vista, CA. The sound isn't as good and you can hear people bitching about other people standing up during the show. :( So I'll keep looking.
