View Full Version : Stevie threw a chair at Chris during argument?
Billy Burnette apparently said it somewhere (recently?). maybe somebody here has his original quote, or knows more. Billy B. turned out to be a source of some credible info this year.
people seem to demand to know more. so since there are weird threads all over the place here, here's another one.

There's really no point in this thread, just like there's no point in the Lindsey thread. If she did she did. She had a lot of drug problems and mental issues as a result of them back then and probably did a bunch of things. It was a long time ago.

Ok, so I found evidence of it on Twitter, but I think the original tweet has been deleted. I just put in the search box of Twitter "stevie chair chris"
October 12/18, it was commented to 7 people "Did you see the tweet from Billy Burnette about Stevie throwing a chair at Chris? I just retweeted it. I read it this morning and I kept thinking maybe that's why Chris left." 7:32 pm 12 Oct 18 (This is not my account, btw.)
It does appear Billy's original tweet has been deleted tho.

...which, even if true, is nothing compared to the violence of a man towards a woman:
"Throughout the book, Buckingham is depicted verbally and physically abusing Harris.
In one instance, she wrote, he "raised his arm and hit me hard enough to knock me off the staircase into the wall".
In another, he grabbed a fistful of her hair, got in a car and drove down a driveway, dragging her across the pavement.
Eventually, Harris claimed, a doctor told her she had to leave Buckingham for her own safety."
False equivalency much? :wavey:

I'm not sure the point is to say the actions themselves are equivalent; rather it reminds people that all the members of this band have behaved badly throughout their history, and have behaved badly towards each other. People like to pick and choose to suit their narrative. Like how people forget, when picking through Carol's book, when the band refused to cancel a show after Lindsey had had a seizure, and had a spinal tap and was in serious pain. One could cherry pick lots of examples.

Like - a drunken John throwing an axe after Christine, barely missing her?
Alcohol and (legal and illegal) drug abuse do bring out the worst in people That's a fact.
Not one member of the band has been perfect (aside from the Perfect one, of course :)).

Wow. Now where are all those people who keep on complaining about Lindsey's behaviour? Why aren't they defending Christine McVie? Why aren't the chiffon contingent yelling "abusive", "misogynist" ad nauseam at their Goat Queen? Is it now all right to fling chairs at people, as long as it's not the Goat who is the target? Is not Christine McVie a proper object of sympathy too? Or is it just the Goat Queen who matters in this band? And don't blame Klonopin, I've been taking Klonopin for far longer than Stevie did and I've never flung a chair at anybody. Her drug use and alleged Klonopin abuse are just excuses for her irrational, VIOLENT, narcissistic behaviour which is only now becoming obvious because the incidents keep piling up and can no longer be hushed away.

Unless we are talking about self-defense, violence against another human is wrong. It ends there. There aren't varying degrees of acceptability - it is always wrong.
With respect to Fleetwood Mac, Stevie is on record as talking about how she went after Lindsey and attacked him. I don't care how short she is, how much she weighed at the time, what prescription drug was forcibly shoved down her throat by Dr. Meanie, it was wrong. Him doing whatever he did to her in that concert in 1980 was wrong. It's all wrong and why this ancient history even gets rehashed as any justification for what happened in 2018 to this band is beyond me.

Ugh, another failure at reading comprehension. I never defended anyone. If it happened (which I suspect a mountain is being made of a molehill), of course it's wrong. But it doesn't rise to the level of man-on-woman violence. To make those equivalent is the very definition of amoral. So, yes, you should be ashamed.

No, it's actually amoral to assert a special difference between male and female violence. They are equals from a moral/legal standpoint, and thus there is no false equivalency. Female violence is not somehow less bad than male violence, just because of biological differences. Which by the way is an interesting argument to make in this day and age.
And I think mountain out of molehill would also describe Lindsey's onstage incident brought up ad nauseam around here.

So you are accusing me of being unable to read? Personal insult!
And how is a man attacking a woman different from a woman doing so? How? Does the chair consider whether it is being wielded by a male or a female before being thrown? So it's all right for Chris to be thwacked with a chair as long as it's Stevie and not John doing it, that is not abuse? And you have the temerity to say I should be ashamed? It's not even about man on woman violence, it's just that it's domestic violence. Violence from one romantic partner to another, regardless of their gender, is a very specific situation unlike other forms of violence due to the emotional/psychological situation that entails.
So I agree, Stevie throwing a chair at Chris or jumping Lindsey during Tango were bad things she shouldn't have done but you really can't put it in the same breathe as Lindsey regularly abusing his girlfriend.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stiletto
indeed, the shoe heel was named for the knife-- high heeled shoes had wider, thicker heels and then tall very narrow heels came into style and were named for their resemblance the the knife.
Stilettos were common means of killing someone quickly and furtively and because of this are common in Shakespeare and other dramatic plays. People could hide them in the robes they wore in those times or in their garters (which men wore to hold up their silk socks or 'stockings'). You could quickly whip out the stiletto, stab your victim, put the knife back in your clothing and move on before anyone could see anything happening. So I always thought in Fireflies, which is of course all about the tribulations in the band, when she says "the stiletto cuts quick" it's a reference to all the hurt the five fireflies inflict on each other.

The level of violence depends on .... the violence, not the gender. Of course, male on female violence is the biggest problem because it is the most prevalent. Yes, a man can inflict more severe injury than a woman, because he’s stronger. The violence that CAH described is very severe and is does not compare to Stevie throwing a chair at Christine which chair never made contact with Christine, but if Stevie hit Christine over the head with a club or knifed Lindsey, then that’s not a lesser problem than Lindsey’s alleged violence, whether Stevie is a woman, man or other.
Bonnie was not less problematic than Clyde. BUT if your point is Stevie throwing a chair at Christine and missing is not as bad as Lindsey pulling CAH’s hair out by the roots, I agree with you.

Esmé poses as a doctor at Heimlich Hospital and chases the Baudelaires around the library of records. I might be the only one, but I've always assumed this lyric from Firelies was a reference to her hurling a high-heel shoe at Lindsey during a fight.

Yeah, I gotta second this... One of the more ridiculous comments over the last few weeks of shocking ridiculousness (from a lot of people).
MORE IMPORTANTLY, THOUGH: NO. KLONOPIN DOES A HELL OF A LOT MORE THAN JUST MAKE A PERSON TIRED, especially with regular use. The withdrawals come very fast and we're talking about a central nervous system depressant—lots of side effects from it, perhaps even when correctly spaced/dosed. At the very least it's important to note this because while SN rightly talks negatively about Klonopin, much of the medical community does not; it's still considered one of the best benzos. And it isn't. Not at all. Aside from the "Klonopin shuffle" (wobbly, easily fall over) being an occasional-to-regular occurence, there's the EATING, the people whom Klonopin relaxes to the point of manic or near-manic behaviors (shopping, sex, etc)... As bad for a person's behavior as a decade of being a cokehead—just different.
So, no, between the "laugh at the chair" and the claim that Klonopin only one makes one sleepy... COME ON NOW. Claims like this certainly aren't helping any case in defense of SN. And I write this a person who favors her in the various conversations...

And you know more than 3 people here, Ed.
Yes, I agree that it depends on the level of violence, e.g., if the outcome involves someone dying or becoming permanently incapacitated. But why is it that we as a society condone same-sex violence, e.g., boxing, wrestling, ultimate fighting, but NFL players are getting fired or fined due to physically assaulting their wives/girlfriends? Or the fact that Mel Gibson has barely worked for the past 10 years? It's because a decent society understands the inherent imbalance of physical power between a man and a woman, and that men must heed a code of conduct that involves not physically attacking women. It has nothing to do with feminism or being woke. Don't. hit. women. Ever. It's about abuse of power. It's about bullies who are enabled by the existence of the imbalance of power. To say simply that all violence is equally bad is akin to saying "all lives matter;" it just whitewashes the particularly the unique evil of men assaulting women.

Out of all the pharmaceuticals I've ingested in my lifetime those are the ones I'm most happy to be free of. I don't need a lecture or a PSA about drugs/bad. I will say there were times when they helped me feel like I wasn't going to die when I was suddenly and inexplicably filled with panic.

What society condones is not based on gender so much as whether the opponents are evenly matched. That is why welterweights do not fight heavyweights. That is why when someone is mentally incapacited or old, society thinks they deserve greater protection. If it’s a young female caregiver hurting an elderly male, everyone thinks it is horrific, because he’s helpless against her. Children and animals are helpless compared to adult humans. They deserve greater protection.
In most cases (but not all) men are stronger than women and must not abuse their greater strength.

Nobody's saying you or anyone needs a lecture/PSA about drugs. One supposes it was a joke, sure, but it's ridiculous to imagine that a person taking Klonopin multiple times a day for years would be merely lethargic. That is, it's not to say that it isn't something to be joked about (you're not the only one who can have some fun laughing/crying about past drug use) it's to say it wasn't a funny or good joke and it doesn't help the "Stevie side" of things. In fact, the last few comments have me wondering if you're actually one of those pro-LB psychos who fantasize that Karen Johnston has been weaponized by SN and find any way they can to insult the music/hair/clothes/voice/career of SN—even going so far as to try and convince people that the shows aren't selling.
What I mean, really? I've been reading the last few weeks of threads and certainly found some solace in your posts, often when you do make a joke or counter some seriously delusional/misogynist (yes, misogynist) comments with something equally galling/funny/challening, but the comments in this thread push you over into TROLL territory. How could either of the comments you made serve to slow or challenge or negate all the awful stuff people have been writing about Stevie Nicks? THEY DON'T. THEY HELP PROVE PEOPLE'S ASSERTIONS, which is a shame...
The only "side" I'm on is the side of music I love and no amount of stupid, vengeful, litigious oldsters, LIZ ROSENBERG, angry/dissapointed fans, or even the possibility that all of these people are more horrible than any of us imagined is going to change that.
and don't even for one GD second try to imply that *I* have anything to do with your assertion that the Ledge has turned into a "....drag, man"....I get it, it's a joke, it's not *about* me, but, really, to tack that one to the end of your comment, like somehow, after what I've been reading here, one little post about how serious a drug Klonopin is (you know, in case any members have been so casually handed it, as Nicks claims she was) and you're LAMENTING THE STATE OF THE MESSAGE BOARD??!?!
I've been on here a decade and the last time I commented before these few weeks was 4 years ago when Warners f'ed up my 24K pre-order. I don't have a THING TO DO with anyone's opinion on how this message board has allegedly devolved...

If anyone still needs proof that Stevie once threw a chair at poor Christine, just look at the, er, seating arrangements for the current lineup's closer All Over Again. There's only one chair, and with Stevie in close range, Chris is making damn sure to stay seated in it.
