Of COURSE it was all Stevie's doing. She kicked him out for no reason whatsoever. It's so crazy! I heard from Cordelia, the current "Supreme", that Stevie used one of her White Witch spells to get Mick, John and Chris to go along with it. So crafty, that Stevie is.

I don’t think think this is in the wrong forum. It’s more discusssion into the what broke up the Rumours band. I find it incredibly annoying that anyone thinks this is earth shattering news or should bring on any “I Told You Sos” 90 percent of people here new this was primarily Stevie’s doing. We just don’t care  now if Lindsey has said at this meet and greet a specific into what made Stevie inititiate this, then we’d have some news.

But regardless of all that, i would think it’s ok in this forum.

I imagine some people won't want to accept the reality of this. Why? Because it's hard accepting faults in your idols. I should know, I worshiped at the foot of Nicks (and the Mac) for years. There will be definite cross blame for years to come in this fandom. "It was Stevie's doing, she ruined everything." "Lindsey deserved it for all the crap she had to put up with over the years." "He should have just accepted the bands terms." "Stevie should have just gotten on with the show and dealt with it or left if there was that big a problem."

If you ask me, I think both played a part. Clearly, I'm sure, Lindsey prefers his own material to that of someone else's (rightly so) and probably didn't want to litter the set with pre-75 stuff (stuff more than likely that would be replacing his songs and not Chris or Stevie's), and Stevie likely put her foot down about the bickering and his controlling nature which I'm sure exists in some fashion and probably gave the ultimatum that likely occurred ("I can't take it anymore, it's him or me"). As much as they elevate each other musically, they tear each other down emotionally.

Exactly. He played a role in his ouster too. You don’t get fired after 40 years for “nothing.” Even if fans (who were not there) disagree about what the “something” was, disagree with the band’s actions, or disagree about the statement the band released about “the something.”

Because it was not truly refuted by Lindsey or the band. Only third-party people and fans who use that video with fans. If he was fired with absolutely no reason I think he would have been more outspoken more quickly. I think something larger happened to bring it to this point. Which is why he was silent for so long and why the rest of them gave that lame reason, probably both for legal reasons. Who knows.

Incorrect
Its about a meet and greet at a Lindsey solo concert.
His career is POST Fleetwood Mac no matter how hard you try to hold on to the past.
This thread has 23 posts and still nothing specific WHAT Lindsey was asked and WHAT was his response. The entire thread started "It was all Stevie"

I think it's pretty obvious that he wanted to do his joint tour, they didn't want to let him and so Stevie took the opportunity and ran with it. I was convinced that's what happened when we first found out about this and with all the little things that have come out since then, it couldn't be clearer.

No, there are no denials on the board just vague references. I agree 100% that Stevie fired Lindsey. I said it right away even before most people on this board said so. What is frustrating is this thread. Your post is even more vague. We don't know any context what was said. What exactly was asked to Lindsey? What was his response?
I know Stevie fired Lindsey. But the phrase "it was all Stevie" did not come from Lindsey's mouth. People want to make claims they cant back up. I will meet Lindsey and ask direct questions instead of this vague crap. "We all heard Stevie" LMAO What is the context of hearing one word. To be fair, they laid down the law with Christine that she had to go on tour and then that she couldn’t leave again. They didn’t do that with Stevie for LBCM.

It’s about the money. We get it.

But, it’s also not like there wasn’t enough acrimony between them that one couldn’t have crossed the line with the other. We simply don’t know.

That said, as a fan, they’re doing some great stuff and he’s doing some great stuff. What more could we really ask for?

What more could we really ask for? They should have done a much better job with the Bella Donna, Wild Heart, Mirage and Tango deluxe projects. What's with practically an entire CD used for those stupid 1987 dance remixes, when a dozen or so unreleased and alternative recordings could have taken their spot? What's with the 1982 HBO concert not even being remastered, let alone expanded to include the other performances? What's with no 1983 live stuff AT ALL, not even the three Oakland cuts from the radio? Shoddy, buddy, shoddy.

Only the Tusk, Rumours, and white album releases are really up to snuff, bucko. The live stuff was done right, and the studio stuff was done mostly right. I gotta let this rage out. :sorry:

Fleetwood Mac are fighting again. Rock-star fur is flying. But this is no ordinary argument.

For one thing, the contretemps is being conducted in three different countries.

Stevie Nicks fights her corner from an elegant apartment in Paris, Lindsey Buckingham boxes clever in his Californian study and Christine McVie counterpunches from her riverside penthouse in London.

Founder band members Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are keeping out of it. Fleetwood is licking his wounds after his fourth divorce and McVie is in hospital engaged in a more serious battle, with cancer.

The disagreement, believe it or not, concerns one of Fleetwood Mac’s few physical altercations.

After 45 years of soft rock’s favourite soap opera, it’s astonishing that the players haven’t come to blows more often.

‘I was dancing on stage,’ begins Nicks, now 65, in the salon of her rented Parisian pied-à-terre.

‘It was the Tusk tour, 1980, Auckland, New Zealand. I was doing my thing with my shawl and Lindsey pulled his jacket up over his head and started mimicking me, behind my back.

'I thought, “Well, that’s not working for me.” But I didn’t do anything. This must have infuriated him, because he came over and kicked me.

'And I’d never had anyone be physical with me in my life. Then he picked up a black Les Paul guitar and he just frisbee’d it at me. He missed, I ducked – but he could have killed me.’

Is it true that during their private-jet-and-pink-hotel-suite years, Fleetwood Mac would take cocaine while they were performing on stage? 'Absolutely,' said Stevie Nicks .

‘I’m not sure that happened,’ Buckingham, 64, states flatly at his gated LA estate.

‘Oh, it happened, all right,’ asserts Christine McVie, 70, drinking in a glorious view of the Thames.

‘I threw a glass of wine in his face.’

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/event/article-2529544/Fleetwood-Mac-You-make-fighting-fun-OK-Lindsey-Buckingham-admits-I-did-kick-Stevie-Nicks-Fleetwood-Mac-settling-old-scores.html

That said, as a fan, they’re doing some great stuff and he’s doing some great stuff. What more could we really ask for?

Great stuff:shrug: Fleetwood Mac have not and likely will not record a note of new music. If their rendition of "Ive Got You " is "great" then one man's trash is another man's treasure I guess. IMHO that performance is Stevie's most absurdly Norma Desmondish moment since her Bon Jovi and Poison covers on Timespace. At least then she had the alibi of being zonked out of her gord on klonopin.

'And I’d never had anyone be physical with me in my life. Then he picked up a black Les Paul guitar and he just frisbee’d it at me. He missed, I ducked – but he could have killed me.’Lindsey didn't use a Les Paul in Auckland 1980.

‘I’m not sure that happened,’ Buckingham, 64, states flatly at his gated LA estate. Lindsey is prevaricating. Something like it happened. However, the first any of us ever heard of it was in Mick's 1990 book. I recommend everybody pull that book off the shelf and read that section.

Mick also talked about it in 1990 on the Graham Nash show with Billy Burnette and Sharon Celani. He specifically avoided the word "kicked" and instead used the word "flicked." The book does, too. I know this sounds silly, but the act, which no one in Fleetwood Mac mentioned until ten years after it happened, has been reframed since then as an act of violence. It's been made to sound more physical than Mick said it was. I just had to get that off my chest.

Perfectly stated. Norma Desmond: "There's nothing else. Just us, and the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark. All right, Mr. De Mille, I'm ready for my closeup."

Its like pulling teeth on this thread. 42 posts and still no answers WHAT was asked and WHAT Lindsey said.

I’m not sure I’m following you and I don’t know what’s so funny about what WE heard. Lindsey said: “it was all Stevie”. Obviously the question was: “what happened?” I don’t think you can do a more obvious question.

What vague crap? At least 3 people who usually post here were there yesterday. But hey, if you have a less crappy question and you want to waste your minute with Lindsey asking about FM instead of thanking him for a great show and you also think he’s gonna tell you the whole story after meeting you for the first time, then do it. I’ll be here waiting for it. :woohoo:

To be determined. It’s more likely now than this time last year.

And, whatever about Stevie. Christine’s solo on Black Magic Woman made me smile. TMATTYD and Hypnotized seem to be highlights, too. And, DDIO is still one of the best pop songs ever. Stevie isn’t why I want to see this, or any, Fleetwood Mac show.

I'm sorry, were you in the room so can say with complete confidence that this was NOT said....? Oh please

Elle has said publicly on other social media accounts that she didn't ask him anything, but because he knows her he just started talking....sorry but those exact words were said and several others at the meet and greet also heard him say this.

To allude that this is fabricated is beyond insulting to Elle when her only motivation is to share LBs exact words to Ledge members

This isn't difficult to understand or interrupt so this should answer your ignorant questions fully

Just wow.
I love Elle and no one is questioning her integrity. Nice try to pivot to members calling other's integrity into account. Now slightly more information comes out that no one asked him any questions. Ok that is good to know. When someone starts a thread "it was all Stevie" implies those were Lindsey's exact words. Before other members immediately start with posting threads its fair to ask what is the context? No specifics just people saying they heard Stevie's name pop up. If you post something its fair to ask questions. Were we to believe that Lindsey asked about his firing and his response was "it was all Stevie." We all know Lindsey speaks in technical terms and always leaves hints to his explanations.

I don't need proof that Stevie was majorly the reason Lindsey was fired. However, its fair to get fair explanations of what Lindsey said. That's not being rude or arrogant. Curious minds want to know what he said. But so far all we know is Stevie's name came up. How? In what context? How did he relate his firing to Stevie?

If you post something its completely fair to ask for an explanation. That's all. 74 posts later, I have not read anything about the meet and greet what questions were asked, how firing came up, and how Stevie was involved. Just "it was all Stevie" Don't ask any questions. How dare you question anyone with arrogance. Huh?

And when Stevie first mentioned it, she did not say that he kicked her either. She said he did something to her. My impression was that he was behind her and she knew that he was doing something unwanted, but she couldn’t see him and couldn’t say. She did not feel a kick or she would have described it as such when she first told the story. He might have been catching at the hem of her dress, flicking his foot, something disruptive certainly, not violent.

She knows how to describe violence when she wants to, “Remember when you threw that Les Paul at me?”

That's the quote as I read it on the LB Savage page on FB.

The premise is as follows:

Elle didn't bring it up and asked if he was ok. However, because they know each other, and as she was about to walk away, he said, "You know it was all Stevie?"

Before that, he had asked her if she left DC to move to Portland. Which tells me they know each other rather well.

This does not say he is blameless. It does tell us the main characters and quite supports the "Him or Me" theory.

I know comments on ticket sales are not for this thread or even this forum but...
...from what I can tell, each of the venues over the next couple of weeks have only sold 70% to 80% of tickets. That's not bad in general, but in Fleetwood Mac terms that's pretty awful. Anecdotally I'd suggest on recent tours these venues would have been either sold out or almost sold out by now. That said, some of the later dates in November and December seem to have sold much better. Something else of note is the tickets that are still available. There are considerable numbers of floor tickets and lower tier tickets. That suggests people are still going but are far happier to just take the cheapo seats.

So Lindsey says it was all Stevie but doesn’t say what the reasons were or why she wanted him fired, but some in this thread take that as solid proof that she fired him for no reason. Okay....

This doesn’t really need to be said but people who were fired generally don’t give a lot of details about what they did to contribute to the firing and generally they blame someone else. So this interaction with Lindsey, while interesting, tells us nothing.

I'm surprised gldstwmn is doing this as well. It obviously alters the meaning to leave off those words. It's intellectually dishonest and it's beneath her.

If the quote doesn't support your argument... change your argument. Don't change the quote.

I'm not. The person operating this account turns into Baghdad Bob anytime something doesn't neatly fit into her narrative, just as she accuses other people of doing. Recall, this is the same person that still contends that Kristen Buckingham's Instagram isn't actually her...

It's all intellectually dishonest and a purposeful distortion of basic facts. This kind of stuff doesn't deserve a response. Don't feed the trolls, folks... :woohoo:

I don't know what the meaning is. That's what I've been trying to say for the last 275 pages.
Was it one fallen leaf
Like the feather that it was
Was it freedom by choice
Oh baby was it love

'You know it was all Stevie?'

Umm, I think what he was saying to Elle is...
'You know it was all Stevie?'
The only inference I can derive from that is...
'Hey, Elle, you know all this was Stevie's doing don't you?'
I think this would imply Lindsey leaving the band is purely because Stevie wanted that to happen.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be cogently responding to, but what Elle wrote is clear and easy enough to understand. Further, if he said it during the first M&G, we'll likely hear more about it soon, so I'm not working myself into a lather like yourself. Let's see what else is said in the next few days and weeks before telling people they're wrong about what they're reading.

Lincoln, Nebraska- 3 days away.
Approximately half of all floor seats are still available.

No, but you do know that by leaving those two words off, you are changing the meaning of that particular sentence. You are not stupid.

If it doesn't matter, then why not quote him fully?

If your arguments are strong, quoting him fully won't hurt them.

I am sorry to harp on this, but it is a pet peeve of mine when I see people distorting the words of others. Disagree with someone all you like, but disagree with them honestly.

With all due respect the title of this thread is intellectually dishonest. Given that the discussion of said topic would probably intellectually dishonest. Sigh, haven't posted in ages but here goes. I went to the Portland show with Elle and was standing with her when this happened. She didn't ask Lindsey anything about the firing. He literally just said out of nowhere "You know it was Stevie right?" He had also turned towards me then as to make sure I heard it too. He also mentioned how she didn't even think about the legacy of the band. I believe he said a couple of more things along those lines but I can't remember exactly what he said. She then said as long as you're ok. It was a short conversation.

I don't think this needs to be dissected anymore, that's what he said and the context he said it in.

Thank you for posting this and clarifying (even though it really was pretty clear to most of us already). I am almost completely convinced that Stevie got Mick to ask Mike into the band before they fired Lindsey under the guise of Mike can play the "old stuff" that Lindsey seemingly refuses to play. Lindsey, of course, likely had a complete meltdown about this and that's where I think all his talk about her not thinking about the band's legacy comes into play. The timing between MusicCares and Mike getting a bday surprise call just doesn't ever add up if they fire Lindsey first and then are like "oh crap what do we do???" I can see Lindsey losing his mind over the idea of turning Fleetwood Mac in 2018 into some touring tribute to Tom Petty and Peter Green. The whole thing is just sad.

I'm more convinced than ever really that what happened here was the conflict over his wanting to do his solo tour on the side, them not wanting him to do that and then Stevie basically seeing that opportunity to get him axed and going ahead with it. Every single little thing points to that being what happened.

So because it came from Lindsey I guess that makes it gospel? What the heck do you think he was going to say? it is all my fault? We all know that in 99.999% of human disagreements, both parties are at fault in some manner. I just cannot believe that this argument continues after this long. Let is go...he is history. I personally dont think he will ever be back in the band. it is over...quit pointing fingers. And Lindsey should do the same. It isnt a very classy move. He is NOT INNOCENT in all of this either.

BigAl84
10-10-2018, 10:57 AM
He's a pretty level headed guy at this point in the game, or so it appears. I actually think he would be relatively diplomatic about it had it really been just a parting of the minds and a clash of opinions.

IF he did say something about her music cares speech or a tom tribute on the next tour, it doesn't automatically mean it was said in a nasty way by him. How the other party chose to handle those comments or interpreted is unknown. The exact details of the exchange is unknown to us. Trying to be as subjective as possible, I don't tend to favor the idea that Lindsey lashed out or threw a fit at anyone initially. I think there was a negative knee jerk reaction he wasn't expecting and it went south. Did things get heated and were other things said? Maybe - but again, I don't think this whole thing was sparked due to Lindsey acting like a d*ck to Stevie or anyone else in the band. I think he may have spoken honestly and openly and it didn't sit well with some folks. Again, a lot is unknown.

I think opinions and ideas were floated that were hot button issues for other folks in the band and it blew up. I think it went from 0 to 10 extremely quickly.

BigAl84
10-10-2018, 11:04 AM
I will say...if in fact the idea was floated to the band about him doing solo shows in between mac shows...I still find it hard to believe that he didn't know that wouldn't sit well we certain folks in the band. Like it or not, Stevie beats that dead horse and then beats it again, and again. Her thing about always having to sacrifice her solo career plans for Fleetwood Mac, that's one of her token bits. In the last couple of years it's turned into more of a passive aggressive guilt trip. Not trying to be mean, but it really has.

We've all discussed this until we're blue in the face. My take on it is, when he said "it was all Stevie" he's saying the situation went nuclear not because I wanted it to.

We've all discussed this until we're blue in the face. My take on it is, when he said "it was all Stevie" he's saying the situation went nuclear not because I wanted it to.

I think this was definitely a factor; she can't play the martyr quite as well if others show her that she doesn't have to.

Six months ago I would've been thrilled to hear she's nominated for the RRHOF as a solo artist. But now, the timing couldn't be worse. She probably thinks this is the universe's way of rewarding her bad behavior... :distress:

I will say...if in fact the idea was floated to the band about him doing solo shows in between mac shows...I still find it hard to believe that he didn't know that wouldn't sit well we certain folks in the band. Neither of them are saints. I'm sure it got a little ugly, but I don't necessarily buy into the whole Lindsey picked a fight with Stevie angle. Leaving the band was not what he was wanting or trying to do.

Don't forget...this is the same group of folks who were ok with giving him three years to do his thing back in 05-08. This year marked the arrival of an apparent zero tolerance flexibility clause.

Great points by both of you. I totally agree. None of them (The 5) are known for cool calm heads and understanding. I can see Lindsey losing his mind over the idea of turning Fleetwood Mac in 2018 into some touring tribute to Tom Petty and Peter Green. This is the crux for me. While two factions squabble about who was entirely innocent and who was entirely guilty in this move to cut an old member and hire new members, I want to know what sort of deed warranted being fired.

To fire a 45-year member of a band whose identity had long since solidified in the public eye as the 1977 fivesome, the reason would need to be intense:

Stealing or embezzling
Punching
Sleeping with a spouse (no, maybe not true anymore)
Suing
Murdering
Drug addiction

Asking for a stay on the group tour to accommodate one's solo plans doesn't rise to that level. Nor does asking for days off during the week to tour solo. Nor does an "argument" (these guys have had a million undoubtedly ugly arguments). The firing was probably unreasonable—bad judgment, a rash move.

Yes, of course, it's over and done and let's move on. But it's not unreasonable for any of us longtime fans to want to know exactly what precipitated the firing because we want the satisfaction of knowing that the cause merited the response, and our hunch is that it did not.

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/lindsey-buckingham-fleetwood-mac-fired/

Lindsey Buckingham has finally revealed the details of why he was fired from Fleetwood Mac.

In a new interview, he claims Stevie Nicks handed the band a him-or-me ultimatum after she felt slighted by his actions during their last performance together at the 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year benefit in January. Fleetwood Mac were given an award in recognition of their musical and philanthropic history at the event.

As Buckingham told Rolling Stone, a few days after the show he received a phone call from manager Irving Azoff, who proceeded to list various issues Nicks had with his behavior that night, including his complaints about their intro music being Nicks’ “Rhiannon” and that he may have “smirked” while she was giving her acceptance speech.

“The irony is that we have this standing joke that Stevie, when she talks, goes on a long time,” Buckingham said about the latter point. “I may or may not have smirked. But I look over, and Christine [McVie] and Mick [Fleetwood] are doing the waltz behind her as a joke.”

As for their choice of intro song that night, Buckingham admitted he was against it, but said Nicks took it the wrong way. “It wasn’t about it being ‘Rhiannon,’ ” he noted. “It just undermined the impact of our entrance. That’s me being very specific about the right and wrong way to do something.”

Regardless of Buckingham’s defenses, Azoff gave him a direct message: “Stevie never wants to be on a stage with you again.”

Buckingham took this to mean she was quitting Fleetwood Mac, so he emailed Fleetwood to discuss the band’s future, but didn’t hear back. So he called Azoff for clarification. “‘This feels funny,'” he recalled saying. “‘Is Stevie leaving the band, or am I getting kicked out?’” Azoff told Buckingham he was “getting ousted” because Nicks gave the band “an ultimatum: Either you go or she’s gonna go.”

While Buckingham admitted he didn’t remember Azoff’s exact words, he said “that was the message.”

Shortly after the news of Buckingham’s departure was made public in April, Fleetwood said Buckingham’s unwillingness to tour this year was the reason for his dismissal. The only other public comments Buckingham made prior to Rolling Stone‘s interview were at a May fundraiser, where he said that the band had “lost their perspective.”

“What that did was to harm – and this is the only thing I’m really sad about; the rest of it becomes an opportunity – it harmed the 43-year legacy that we had worked so hard to build,” he explained at the time. “That legacy was really about rising above difficulties in order to fulfill one’s higher truth and one’s higher destiny.”

No more back and forth, both parties have spoken. those of us that have looked at this closely have known the details for a while. And yet Lindsey is the one who stood on stage at Music Cares and mocked her (yet again) while she spoke. Not to mention he is the one who started and is perpetuating this campaign of hatred. He'd been acting like an a$$ for months before Music Cares and I'm sure we haven't even gotten to what the kicker was from that event for his ouster. He is most certainly aware that by airing their dirty laundry this way that he has ruined the experience for many, many fans all the while talking out of the other side of his mouth about preserving the band's legacy. His own wife called him a pr!ck in the Rolling Stone interview. He sounded great on Kimmel and I didn't want to say it then but he looks off. He has that same look in the photos I have seen from the meet and greet. I do wonder if there is a health issue. I hope his friends and family keep a close eye on him while he is touring and I hope it all works out for him. Whomever is managing/advising him would be wise to keep him off the Howard Stern Show. I'm worried he'll be taken advantage of.

....What lol. Seriously, what on earth are you talking about...
What "campaign of hatred" "months before MusicCares? The band had hardly even been together since the end of 2015. Lindsey was off with Christine doing their own thing and Stevie was doing her tour. His wife did not call him a prick lol. The fact that that's how you interpreted her comments says a lot more about your biases than it does about anything else.

This is truly bizarre supposition, rumour and creepy. ESPECIALLY considering this man has young children who read on the internet. Aren't you a mod? This just really crosses a line for me.

 I have a question: is Stevie doing any of her speeches during the new show?
