Career-spanning compilation • 3CD or 5LP vinyl

You can’t move for 50th anniversaries right now and so Fleetwood Mac will celebrate a half century of music in November with 50 Years: Don’t Stop a 50-song collection that explores the group’s entire career, from its early days playing the blues, to the superstardom and rock/pop of the late 1970s, 1980s and beyond.

The 50 tracks span from 1968 to 2013 and that means music from every incarnation of the band with musicians such as Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, Jeremey Spencer, John McVie, Danny Kirwan, Christine McVie, Bob Welch, Bob Weston, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Billy Burnette, Rick Vito, Dave Mason, and Bekka Bramlett.

The CD edition is a three-CD package, while to fit everything on vinyl means that is a five-record set. There’s 20-track single CD version that ends up being more of a traditional ‘greatest hits’. David Wild has written sleeve notes for this new release.

50 Years: Don’t Stop is released on 16 November 2018.

So nice of them to sell us ANOTHER repackaging.

Emerald Eyes instead of Why? I find that an odd choice...

Kudos for including one (edited) song from Time. I think the choices from Say You Will are a bit too predictable and not the best of that album.

I can't decide whether I'm relieved that I don't have to buy this collection as they couldn't be bothered to record one song to introduce the new line-up. On balance, it's sad they didn't haul themselves into the studio. They were obviously too busy trying to get their story straight...

Oh dear, oh dear. How incredibly poor this is.
Despite being 25 years ago I think The Chain is actually a better option.
At least back then that release had a few new things of note.
Sad!

Very uninspired set, imho...

Agree that The Chain was a better offering; and if you're talking 1975+, Very Best Of 2002 was also better.

Terrible all the way around. The only new thing about this release is Sad Angel being available in disc form. It's a sad and uninspiring release which I guess goes with the band's current mantra.

They should have put the whole EP on there. That at least could be called "new" in the sense it had not been released on CD before.

At least we have the single edits.

So true. Is there something I don't get? Selling a bunch of hit singles or album tracks seems so . . . 1995.

Doesn't everyone these days just build a custom playlist on Pandora or Spotify? Why would people buy this—a commercial playlist?

Yes, a great shame not to include "Why".
If the 2 minute musical intro was a problem, they could have tried editing it.

Some comments:
- Two what extent was Lindsey involved/not involved in the track selection? Do we know if he had any involvement back in 1988 for Greatest Hits?
- So when Lindsey is in the band they release greatest hits packages with the band's photo on the cover, and when Lindsey isn't in the band they use abstract designs of flowers or animals or tattoos.
- I like that "Fireflies" was included; at the same time, I absolutely hate that it was included given the current context.

Ohh but it's a new band!

It would of been more interesting to have them spend a month in the studio re-cutting some of the older blues tunes in a refreshed way with the new band. That would require effort.

Songs on the trailer..

Well, this is a little bit refreshing:

Don't Stop, Hypnotized, Station Man, Sentimental Lady, Sands of Time, The Chain...

If the middle four of those made into the set, however briefly, that would be cool...I'm not holding my breath, though...

So are there any songs here that haven't been released before? I'll admit that after taking a glance at this, some of these songs I would like to get on cd. Sands Of Time, Fireflies, Sad Angel, Did You Ever Love Me, Tell Me All The Things You Do, Heroes Are Hard To Find, and Emerald Eyes. Are these remastered? And I'm also curious as to what the various single versions of these songs sound like as opposed to what is on the album(s). I have most of what the 3cd set is offering. But I will say it's not a bad collection of FM songs for the casual FM fan. It's more concise, coherent, and representative of all eras of FM.

I like that this collection is more organized than "25 Years - The Chain". The tracks on this new set are in chronological order, and it'll be nice to hear the progression of the band.

I'd have liked to see more of the material from the 1971-74 period here, though I'm happy to have "Emerald Eyes" included. Also would have liked more from Behind The Mask and Time, though if there could only be one song from the latter, "I Do" represents it well.

I'm very happy to see "Fireflies" here, though the live version of "Never Going Back Again", is sure to be skipped by me. I'll check out "Sad Angel", as I've never heard it before.

Basically, it’s just the singles.

The only changes I’d make:

Emerald Eyes -> For Your Love (single) or Miles Away (better song, not a cover)
Monday Morning -> I’m So Afraid
NGBA -> IKINW

And, I’d drop all of the above for new material.

NGBA is live from the 1980 album called Live.

I think essentially what we have here is an A-sides collection. For all the comparisons with the Chain box set, this one gives the Bob Welch era a much better representation.

A few changes I’d make:

Monday Morning > I’m So Afraid
Second Hand News > Songbird

The live Never Going Back Again I would jettison along with I Do which wasn’t even Chris’s best song on Time. I think Blow By Blow would actually do well in theee in the version originally recorded for the 1994 World Cup compilation. Then I’d probably include Love That Burns as Mr Wonderful is the only one of the 17 studio albums not represented here.

At least there is no new material. Thank goodness for small mercies. Given how shot their voices are now, not to mention the band's musical director having been summarily dismissed, it is all for the best. And we can now see through all this pretentious verbiage about this being a new band looking forward which is all about change and enjoying moving on the next chapter ad nauseam. They have nothing left to say, except lies.

Their collective voices have been "shot" or worn down for some time, but with judicious studio dusting and (gulp) autotune, they can still sound very good indeed. Cases in point: IN YOUR DREAMS, and LB/CM.

I do find it interesting that their 50 year retrospective is named for a song that is so clearly defined by the Rumours 5 lineup and we can argue, from the most definitive album this group has released. Given how they are a new band, and all that. It's curious that they not try for a little more "neutrality" or something that would have encompassed all iterations of FM

Who chose the songs?! This is the worst collection ever.

- 71-74 deserves its own disc.

- 75-87 is missing a bunch of important songs ... no Gold Dust Woman? And the edit of Sara?! No thanks!

- 87-92 eh

- Glad Silver Springs from The Dance is finally represented in a collection. The single and music video were huge! Landslide would have been nice as well.

- nothing new or rare...

What about the Time lineup? It's a GOOD album!

How much is there that we haven't heard? They've repackaged this sh*t a dozen times, in hopes that a few idiots will repurchase the product.

Once Neil Finn tires of this Lindsey tribute gig, their next hired hand should be Bill Clinton.

It has nothing to do with my username.
As I have stated numerous times, I don't support the current line-up and am not attending the tour.
Fleetwood Mac's legacy is cemented into the history books.
They will always be one of the most iconic rock groups of all time and Lindsey will always be regarded as a genius guitarist and craftsman.

The lack of enthusiasm for this uninspired record would have still been a dud if Lindsey hadn't of left. ZERO new material. Recycled collection.
I could care LESS about the current line-up, but critics have loved it, it's selling out and doing very well.
The only complaints I see are on the Ledge a few random youtube/facebook posts by the same 7-10 people that repeat themselves like a parrot. In the real world of Los Angeles and Miami, I hear nothing about it. People care more about their lives and families and own jobs than they do that Buckingham is no longer with FM.

Lindsey's Solo Anthology has two new songs and one BuckVie song. Those three songs could have been part of this compilation if Stevie had said 'yes' to a new FM album when Lindsey tried to convince her to record new material that ultimately ended up being the BuckVie album. But because she said 'no'...:shrug:

Critics haven't exactly loved it. I read more 'meh' reviews than 'oh, this is so good! Lindsey who?' ones. And it's not doing very well. It took them 6 months to start selling a second MSG. Six months.

I'm sure people also care more about their real lives in the whole world than Stevie being inducted again. I'm sure that day will go unnoticed by many people except for those 7-10 people on YouTube/Facebook/Twitter/IG that repeat themselved like a parrot because she's the first female that was inducted twice.

I agree! BuckVie promoted as FM(yes, including the goat) would have gotten airplay. There are some damned catchy songs on there! It's been in my car CD rotation since the day it came out(June 9th, 2017!-yes, I know that from memory).

Solo Anthology is a 3 CD compilation. What we got at concerts was a solo CD. I think what they take into account is the 3 CD compilation.

Anyway, both 50 years: Don't Stop and the Solo Anthology flopped after a week at Bilboard charts. It'd have been nice if they stayed at least for two weeks.

Yes, that's what many of us think. BuckVie would've been the perfect ending for the band's legacy. God knows Lindsey have been trying for years to convince her. But of course she had to play the victim card (pretty much like her fans) and say 'no' and blame Lindsey. Because everything is Lindsey's fault. Always. Well, now she has to find someone else to blame for her own faults.

Why does it have to be a matter of blame? She’s made enough albums with him to knows she doesn’t like the experience of working with him, they push each other’s buttons, and she generally doesn’t like the way he produces her songs. She’s not a fan of his creative vision. They’ve diverged too far from one another to be compatible, musically. They just did three years of Fleetwood Mac. She needed her break.

Well, now she has to find someone else to blame for her own faults.
The reality is that she’s about to be the first woman inducted into Hall of Fame twice. I don’t think she sees faults in her career choices at this point. And, there are enough parts in the machine that I’m sure she’ll be able to find someone to throw under the bus.

that's exactly the thing - it doesn't and it shouldn't!

yet somehow Stevie seemed to have been blaming Lindsey for this or that over the years, and it culminated with that CBS April interview where she was passive-aggressively blaming him for not wanting to tour (lie as it turned out), standing in the way of her happiness, plus both her and Mick have been blaming him in all kinds of interviews how he's the one standing in the way of playing nothing but hits (again lie - both Mick and Stevie were clear as late as in 2013 promotional interviews that it's the 2 of them who are afraid audience will walk out if they play anything but hits).

see this part is something that should be enough - no blame and hate throwing, no need for personal attacks. it's fair to have a different musical vision and nor wanting to work together.

[They just did three years of Fleetwood Mac. She needed her break.

This band has been known as a musical soap opera.
It's interesting how some of the hard core fans are invested in the soap opera elements, to the point of taking it out on each other online.
The way I see it, is I am greatful I got to experience the music when it was new, and see over 36 live show's over the years.
The band and their solo projects are the theme songs of my life and will continue to be so.
But I am not picking sides or disliking others if we don't share the same views.
Is it disappointing? Yes.
But I can't bring myself to hate other people over the break up of a rock band.
The world has sooooo much hate and people fighting as it is.
Life can be so hard and none of us knows the back stories of each other that brought us to the point of who we are today.
I still can find plenty of escape and happiness by listening to this music.
I respect everyone for their opinions on here.
But I don't understand why it's gotten to the point of members of this board tearing up each other.
I apologise for anything I have said to contribute to the negativity on here.
I don't like the feeling after fighting with anybody.
Life goes by so fast.
Taking it out on each other over a band??
It's not worth it

Stevie refused to work on FM album in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014. so singling out 2016 and especially 2017 makes no sense. in 2016 FM gave her the last chance. they waited for her. finally in the fall she said her final NO and taunted them to just try and go ahead, saying she sees no point why they would want to release it.

I really think cbBen was onto something about the actual decision to oust Lindsey came long before MusiCares.

Stevie and Mick might be telling the truth. They might have actually decided to oust Lindsey after he asked for the delay, which he admits to having asked for. The decision was already made when he gave up on that request.

yes. as "we will see you in court!" and "majority rules!" was telling the truth, too.

the actual decision to oust LB was definitely in the fall 2017, as his RS interview and lawsuit details.

once BuckVie album was out, that was it for Nicks. i guess the rest of the 2017 was Mick wrangling promoters and managers to figure out how to pull it (you know that didn't happen in 2 days between Musicares and Azoff phone call!). if Mick REALLY cared about FM as opposed to just money in his pocket, he should have been working on making sure band members reconcile vs letting some of them act like spoiled senile people. Mick didn't keep FM together, or cared about its artistic legacy, for decades now. he made sure to run it into the ground, over and over again, for a quick buck.

they just held up through Musicares to stage some kind of "now you've done it" bs.

remember, a lot of this info came from Mike Campbell / Heartbreakers camp as well as people talking to Mick, among other sources. LB's lawsuit just confirmed most of what we knew already.

Agree, and don't forget some constantly telling members to "just get over it."

I won't get over it, and when I do, it will be on my timeline, not someone who has no inkling or empathy as to the way I feel.

And if I don't get over it, that's for me to deal with, not someone else to belittle anothers feelings.....whatever those feelings may be.

What blows my mind is that $tevie engineered all this w/ Mick/Irving and the other 2 probably had no idea. Maybe, Mick whispered to John that it might happen.

And this is what still kills me about the situation. All these machinations going on behind the scenes for an extended period of time, and then when Chris finally finds out she just ducks her head down and toes the line. I want to shake her by the shoulders and scream, "Don't you see there's a reason they didn't tell you? That they went behind your back? They don't trust you! Are these people you really want to work with?"

I think it's very possible John knew something was happening, even if he was not privy to the specifics. Otherwise, he would have just stated that he, like Christine, had no idea.

From what I've seen on Lindsey's Instagram stories (I guess they're technically just screenshots from Twitter), he's open to working with Chris again and I'm glad about that. But on a personal level, part of me still doesn't understand why he'd trust her enough to want to. It's the same part of me that doesn't understand why Chris is still on this ridiculous tour, seeing as how her band mates don't trust her either.

The more I think about their actions (especially Stevie's) the more disgusted I am by all of them. How they acted behind his back. They were supposed to be family, but then I have seen this happening in many families.

I applaud you for having the guts to go to one of their shows. I'd probably get sick the minute I see Stevie acting all innocent and celestial. :(:(:(

I KNOW I would get sick, she disgusts me (and by God, I used to love her with every fibre of my being). But this totally explains why Mick and Christine were waltzing behinds Stevie's back, yet she went ballistic and tried to pin "smirking" on Lindsey.

It was all a smoke screen folks, plain and simple. What a couple of A**HOLES those 2 are (Stevie and Mick).

Even Mike was already contacted.

How do you know this exactly?

As a big fan of his, I am disappointed he agreed to pretend that they contacted him only after they fired Lindsey (and, to a lesser extent, for agreeing to take Lindsey's job before they did).

His saying that he would have probably been too grief-stricken to say yes had they contacted him any sooner always seemed like a bit much and like something akin to a cover story.

Yeah, I don’t call people with different views Mick, Neil, Karen, Kristen, etc.

Stevie refused to work on FM album in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014. so singling out 2016 and especially 2017 makes no sense.
The band was touring in 2009, she recorded a solo album in 2010, extended a solo tour in 2012, and did a contractual obligation album in 2014, however, the obvious difference is Christine wasn’t around in 09, 10, and 12, and Stevie made it known that an album without Christine was a nonstarter. I don’t agree with her decision and am disappointed by it, but she didn’t want to do an album with Lindsey. That was clearly something she didn’t enjoy. Why invest the time and energy on what she considered diminishing returns?

And this is what still kills me about the situation. All these machinations going on behind the scenes for an extended period of time, and then when Chris finally finds out she just ducks her head down and toes the line. I want to shake her by the shoulders and scream, "Don't you see there's a reason they didn't tell you? That they went behind your back? They don't trust you! Lindsey told me in the Concord M&G that he found out "they have been lying to him since last year", which means 2017.

the actual decision to oust LB was definitely in the fall 2017, as his RS interview and lawsuit details.

once BuckVie album was out, that was it for Nicks. i guess the rest of the 2017 was Mick wrangling promoters and managers to figure out how to pull it (you know that didn't happen in 2 days between Musicares and Azoff phone call!).
Well, I’m the one who has been saying for a long time that I suspected the actual decision was made shortly after Classic East.

if Mick REALLY cared about FM as opposed to just money in his pocket, he should have been working on making sure band members reconcile vs letting some of them act like spoiled senile people.
The way Mick talked about doing stuff from the early years, I’m not sure that he didn’t have a chip on his shoulder, too.

they just held up through Musicares to stage some kind of "now you've done it" bs.
Absolutely. In fact, I bet Stevie intentionally pushed his buttons to cause a blowout so that she could “give an ultimatum.”

remember, a lot of this info came from Mike Campbell / Heartbreakers camp as well as people talking to Mick, among other sources. LB's lawsuit just confirmed most of what we knew already.
But, there are still unanswered questions.

It was a photographer named Joe Compton who was the photographer for The Heartbreakers for over 30 years. He basically said that there was a big fight after MusiCares, that Stevie gave the band an ultimatum, and that Mike was going to be the next guitarist. He later said that a second guitarist and singer was being added.

He also called the Dirty Knobs a great bar band and said less than flattering things about Lindsey.

Agree with this.

Fleetwood Mac ending in this mess is fitting in a way considering the amount of upheaval they've had as a band.

But I just thought the fact all bar Lindsey are now in their 70s, they'd think about it a bit more? They won't be around for much longer. I can't believe someone (apart from Lindsey) didn't think about getting everyone around the table to thrash it out.

The sorry affair has killed any affection I had for Stevie. She stopped both a farewell album and your happening, for her own selfish reasons.

It was. They fired Lindsey (because we all agree he was fired, right? No speculations/assumptions/whatever here) two days after Musicares, so yeah, it's impossible that they planned Lindsey's firing and replacement in 48 hours. Unless he did something so horrible that they decided to fire him that night. And after all that was said and done along this year (especially on Lindsey's camp) I seriously doubt Stevie and Mick would be such good friends to be quiet about what he did. They have nothing against him. That's why they're so quiet.

BuckVie was the beginning. That was I and many here were told.

I was told Mike was contacted by Mick and Stevie before Lindsey was fired. That doesn't mean it's true. But it also doesn't mean it's false.:shrug:

Same about Christine. Even though I'd love for them to work together again, I still can't shake that distrust feeling I have about her.

I think part of it is strategy on Lindsey's side. Right now she would appear to be the only one IN the band that is communicating to some degree with him. She may be the only way he has to hear what the discussions within the band are, or to at least get a sense of them. I kind of wonder if that's why he mentioned her email publicly-- just to needle some of them that he IS hearing what's being said/done amongst the band members.

Neale is with them, and I would imagine they must have some comms as well though Neale would obviously want to be discreet about it. But the band can't be shocked he may still talk to Lindsey. And there are probably other guys around the band / on the crew who talk to LB and give him scoop, but he's not going to announce that publicly.

Plus, in spite of the personal emotional aspect of all this, it is something of a chess game, professionally. Each side has their agenda in how they want the public to perceive themselves and the other side. So LB is being careful to come across as being reasonable and calm as a way of not giving Stevie, Mick and whoever else any ammunition to point to and say, "See how he is? That's why we couldn't continue working with him." Because right now the majority of casual fans and general public only know him from what they've seen of him in his interviews about this whole situation, and he's kept it all on an even keel, and been very, very careful in choosing his words. He also was more neutral in his comments whilst the lawsuit was being negotiated, for the same reasons. It was only after the settlement that he ticked it up a notch and added in some digs about maybe Stevie is upset that he's got a happy family and she's only got her career and such. He's no dummy. He can be very cunning when necessary, and I think in the cunning department he can certainly outwit Mick who will eventually inevitably trip over his own tongue.

Stevie probably would too except all the handlers around her are keeping her locked away from the press. I mean, this has to be the absolute longest we've ever gone with no interviews or whatever from her. Her only comments have been related to her RRHOF nom and then her acceptance. And even those read like pretty scripted PR statements. She gave like zero interviews throughout the tour, when normally she'd be talking to press in every city. Again they obviously weren't going to let any of them talk to the press while the lawsuit was on, but nothing since either. They want to push it to the background, knowing the press gets bored easily and with no new fuel in the fire from her, it will either just naturally fade away or make LB look foolish by keep bringing it up.

And during that RS interview she specifically avoided any question about Lindsey. Well, more like the journalist was instructed to not ask anything about it.

Mick’s drum tech is married to Lindsey’s niece if I’m not mistaken so I’m sure that very interesting relationship provides at least one avenue of communication of what goes on during the tour to LB.

With respect to Lindsey’s social media, aside from his wife stating it was all him, I get pretty convinced it’s really him simply based on how verbose some of the tweets are. They’re vintage Lindsey at times!

I still don't understand the election of some songs. It happened with 25 Years: The Chain, and happened now. I can understand they put all the well known songs -from the Buckingham-Nicks era-, but there's a few I don't understand...

- Sunny Side Of Heaven deserved a place. It's ok with Sentimental Lady, we love the song and it's well included, but Danny's one was simply the highest point of Bare Trees.

- Only Did You Ever Love Me from Penguin?? Remember Me, Bright Fire, Caught In The Rain...we had more -and maybe better- options...

- No love for Forever? :( At least the last track of Mystery To Me was not chosen...

- No love for Angel and Brown Eyes too...

- I'm So Afraid is a classic and had amazing versions in both live albums, Live and The Dance. But they were not included. But, we have NGBA...again...and not the best track from the 1980 album.

- 4 song from Mirage!! It's a miracle!!

- Tango In The Night...the forgotten one...

I can't speak about the songs from the first albums, because I didn't hear them so much...

My opinion too. It's got remastered versions of some good older songs and Save Me, and it's a better boxset for casual fans to use as a gateway to explore than The Chain was, frankly. That's about all its good for.

They really do well with their greatest hits. I think only the Live album didn't really take off.

Personally, I really like the Dont Stop compilation. They got a good balance. They wanted all album releases represented. They wanted single releases included wherever possible. Yes, there are other songs that could have been included, but you’d have to rob peter to pay Paul. It’s 50 songs….include something else, then you’d have to remove something. I love each disc. It’s a really good representation of 50 years of music and band members.
Maybe…..Billy, Rick and Becca could have been represented better. Maybe Paper Doll was inessential and maybe a different one from Time could have been included.

It's okay and it's good that many will be introduced to the 71-74 period for the first time. It's at #10 in the UK after 274 straignt weeks in the top 100, peaking at #5 and only dipping out of the top 50 for 4 weeks. I hope some dribs and drabs of royalties are finding their way to Danny's heirs. .

A few quibbles/observations:

Nothing from Mr Wonderful/I] ? Could not[I] Stop messin' around or Lazy Poker Blues have been squeezed in?

Why no Why?

Brown Eyes instead of Think about me. Christine did sensuousness well, when she put her mind to it

Please save us from Oh Diane. I'm not triggered by much...

The only reason Paper Doll is there is stop us having six Christine songs in a row. They could have put Big Love after Everywhere to break that sequence up a bit.

I'm fine with no Burnette/Vito/Mason/Bramlett compositions.

A couple of braver choices from SYW would have been welcome. Everybody Finds Out and Say Goodbye perhaps.

Nothing from the Finn/Campbell lineup to launch the supposed new era after all they trouble they went to to ditch LB. I'm not that bothered, but the completist nerd in me is annoyed we never got a studio recoring from FM XIV. Miss Fantasy might have been a better, calming, ambiguous ending to the collection in its absence.

Actually, the whole chronological approach is a bit tedious. A mix-and-match between eras might have been interesting.

I can't really find anything in the public domain for Danny's son, Dominic Daniel Kirwan, who would be 52 now.

I'm not sure I've seen this comment before from Jeremy following Danny's death

“It’s hard to say what caused Danny’s later problems,” considers Spencer. “Some blame the drugs and the alcohol, which in some ways enhances inherent psychological problems, and him being a ‘sensitive musician’ to boot. He was jittery and nervous, and the pressure became too much for him. He once said in a rare interview from the 90s something along the lines of playing the black people’s music requiring too much of you, and he regretted touching it. In some ways, I agree; when truly playing blues, you need a balance of positive energy, if you like, to counteract the possibility of being swallowed up in the ‘Green Manalishi’ of deep, dark depression.

“We lost regular contact after I left the band in 1971,” Spencer continues. “Although we did meet for coffee in London, 1978, and did not meet again until the early 2000s, when my wife and I met him, his ex-wife Clare and their son Dominic for lunch in London. It was pleasant enough, even though he was in his own world.”

The same article speaks of him being kept going by royalty cheques in a basement Brixton flat.

When I lived in London I often imagined bumping into Danny somewhere or other; I hope I would have had the good sense to let him be. I think he was in a homeless hostel in Covent Garden for a long period; those royalty cheques can't have amounted to that much.

I admit that I have often tried to find information on Clare and Dominic. I'm not sure what I would do with it. I mean, it's not like I'm going to write either of them and say "Send me something of Danny's." However, I have a fascination with the whole Kirwan clan. They somehow managed to leave NO social media footprint and are entirely untraceable. This, in itself, is a remarkable feat for anyone in 2024--or even back in 2005. No photos. Nothing. Or almost nothing. There is this statement she made following Danny's death: On his song writing skills, Clare Morris (Danny's ex-wife) said, 'Danny was completely dedicated to his craft and I remember how relieved he was that he'd been able to rise to the challenge.'

I only found out today that Danny was born Daniel David Langran and that he later took his stepfather's name. Using public domain information, I've established that his mother and stepfather are long dead, as would be expected. Danny's maternal grandparents who married in 1910 in Wandsworth were Henry Thomas Langran and Daisy Buckingham. Isn't that weird?

Smart public people don't use their last name. I know a couple that just use their first and middle names.

I’ve learned more from your post than I have in hours of searching…so thanks!

Danny's grandfather was a lorry driver in Battersea per the 1939 population register and his family seems to have been solidly working class, judging by the jobs being undertaken by his aunt (sausage machine filler) and uncles- (pottery labourer, motor lorry van guards, provision factory labourer). Again, this is in the public domain.

In theory it might be possible to find cousins of Danny, but I'm leaving well alone.

That's good to hear. I'm a keen amateur genealogist so I'm used to untangling mysteries. English Civil Birth, Marriage and Death records are a great resource once you've worked out how to use them. A bit of reticence is needed with people who may still be living, though.

I don't suppose Lindsey and Danny had a traceable ancestor in common, but you never know.

There are 6 Lindsey Buckinghams (at least 3 of whom were girls) recorded as being born in England & Wales since 1837 on the database I use, 1 Christine McVie, 12 Christine Perfects, 2 Stephanie Nickses, 9 John McVies and a rather worrying 44 Michael Fleetwoods. What a thought!
