The iHeartRadio Music Festival, to be held September 21 and 22 at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, has added Fleetwood Mac to a lineup that includes Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Imagine Dragons, Jason Aldean, Sam Smith, Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson, Shawn Mendes, Rae Sremmurd and Logic, among many more. The two-day event will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

It will be Fleetwood Mac’s first time performing with new band members Mike Campbell and Neil Finn, and the group’s debut performance at the festival, which is geared at the broad audience listening to iHeartMedia’s over 800 radio stations. The announcement arrives ahead of a tour that kicks off in October. Member Lindsey Buckingham left the group in April. It was announced that former Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Campbell and Crowded House singer Finn would fill in for Buckingham.

The iHeartRadio festival has traditionally included a veteran act on its lineup. In previous years, Aerosmith, Queen + Adam Lambert and Billy Idol have held that slot. This year, Lynyrd Skynyrd will also be featured.

“It is an honor to be performing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival for our very first time,” said Stevie Nicks. “The beauty of an event like this is that it is a true representation of the power of radio. It’s an opportunity for artists across all genres to share one stage and what we all love most — music!”

The iHeartRadio Music Festival will be broadcast live across the iHeartMedia network to more than 150 markets and on the CW Network’s CWTV.com and The CW App. A two-night television special is scheduled for Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.

The 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival is co-produced by John Sykes and Tom Poleman.

SWEET! I am so looking forward to hearing how they sound. I suppose they will do a classic song...but it would be so great if they would perform something new and a classic. Crossing fingers...

you are cute.

everyone said he didn't look at Stevie and how wrong that was, that was the "hissy fit".

but everyone said his performance was his usual 200%. something that cannot be said for every other member of that 5. that's why they have to play iheartradio thingy now. that's one thing they CAN say they'd never do if LB was still in the band.

Clever strategy there, to present the line-up at such an occasion as this, where the presentation can be very short, and the result can be embedded in the general hoopla and sound.

LOL!

Sam Smith is playing the same night. In case you forgot, he got sued by Tom Petty because “Stay With Me” was too much like “I Won’t Back Down.”

Better still, Jason Aldean is playing that night, too. He did the cold open on Saturday Night Live after the Vegas shootings, which was the same week Tom died, and played “I Won’t Back Down.” Sam Smith was the musical guest that night.

Poor Sam can’t catch a break.

I'm getting excited! Great timing for the band, a month before the tour actually begins. I hope they sing 3-4 songs at least!

As for Elle's side comments about this concert being a comedown from the classic shows East and West, that's just silly. Wasn't Journey one of the acts at the classic shows? No offense to Journey fans intended, but the HeartRadio show lineup sounds JUST as impressive, if not more so, than the classic shows.

This would be the perfect opportunity to debut a couple of new songs from the new line up..... I'm sure Neil and Christine have songs in the hopper that could be recorded quickly.... And maybe even Stevie has one available.... But that probably ain't gonna happen.

I've been talking about My Mother's Rings ever since Stevie mentioned it at some Q and A or something and it ended up on Fleetwood Mac News. It was written in 2011 or 2013 about the late Barbara Nicks, Stevie's mum. I can't wait to hear it, because she never would have recorded it with the band if Lindsey was recording/producing, she may still do it solo though, who knows.

I've heard from one of the band's production people that the plan is to have a three song EP recorded over the summer with one song written by Neil, one song written by Christine, and one song written by Stevie. Neil probably has a hundred unrecorded songs that would sound great for Fleetwood Mac such as "Ray of Hope", "Love Is All That Remains", or "Guiding Star". Any or all of those songs would be fantastic for Fleetwood Mac. I'd love to hear Stevie sing "Guiding Star" which would be perfect for her voice. Christine would be great to sing "Ray of Hope". Demo versions of each are on YouTube and they're classic Finn songs (see below). I'm sure Christine and Stevie also have at least one song ready to go from past sessions. If each can up with 3-4 songs then we'd have a full album ... :)

They need to get in the studio quickly if they're going to get these songs recorded before rehearsals begin in August. I really hope they can make this happen. I'd love to hear what this configuration sounds like.

No way will they have time to record a full album before the tour. They're not even getting together again until August to start rehearsing. I would love a 3-4 song EP but even that seems unlikely. Frankly, a tour with new songs AND deep cuts might be asking too much of the audience, so I say skip the new songs for this tour and focus on hits and deep cuts. Besides, the new songs from the Dance were the bathroom breaks, same thing with their last EP. I'm thrilled to never hear Temporary One, Sweet Girl, Bleed to Love Her, and My Little Demon again.

Wait..let me get this straight:

You'd like 3-4 new songs...
But you have no interest in seeing them perform any new material...
Because new material in 97 and '13 were bathroom breaks...
But also have no interest in hearing said new material above ever again
But you'd still like that 3-4 song ep of new material?

....Your point is exactly why "new music and deep cuts is too much to ask of the audience".

Do the new music, but please...Play Gypsy with the 15 minute intro for me just one more time, the last ten years of touring wasn't enough.

Most bands takes a month or so to record a new studio album these days. The days where a band can take a year to record an album (ala Tusk) are over. For example, Neil Finn just recorded his recent studio album (Out of Silence) in eight hours live on Facebook/YouTube. Eight hours! And it's a freaking great album. Neil spent a while writing the songs and rehearsing with his musicians but the actual recording took eight hours. Sometimes it's true that less is more ...

Haaaaaaaa:]

Fleetwood Mac make a record or an EP in a month...that's a good one!

It takes about a year for them to even debate releasing new music while starting work on new music, a year for passive aggressive behavior to come and go, at least one if not two greatest hits tours to come and go in order for new material to happen.

This band couldn't fart in a mason jar within a month. It doesn't matter how prolific Neil or Mike may be, unfortunately it will not be their call to make.

This all sounds strangely familiar...but this new lineup will reinvigorate this band and it's going to be all new again...

Fleetwood Mac is so far removed from any comparison to "most bands".

You're partially correct. A Lindsey led Fleetwood Mac can't record in under a month because it wouldn't involve Mike Campbell coming to somebody's rescue with a buffet of unused tracks that can be aligned to 40 year old demos.

And as I already said, if recording new music were remotely a priority why are some members of the band doing private corporate gigs as of last week?

But back to all the heated discussion about everyone's timeless favorites from Behind the Mask...

Not to mention that Stevie in her solo career hasn't recorded any actual 'new' music in quite some time (that involved her writing new music and lyrics, coming up with melodies and chord progressions, collaborating with producers on the sound etc). With 24 KG she just handed off some of her decades old demos with the instruction that they were to be recorded just like the demo, so it was able to be done very quickly and in my opinion the songs suffered as a result of that. I call it the 'Without You Syndrome'.

LOL maybe I didn't phrase it well. I do think playing 3-4 new songs AND several deep cuts might be too much for a tour introducing Neil and Mike to the audience. They should do one or the other, not both. I didn't like any of the new songs on the Dance, only liked 4 songs from Say You Will, and only one song from the EP. Actually, I'm not a big fan of Mirage or Tango, either. But I love Behind the Mask, plus As Long As You Follow, No Questions Asked, Love Shines, and Heart of Stone. Because of this, I am more interested in hearing new music from this version of FM than if Lindsey was still in the band. This is something I didn't realize until just now, actually.

I didn't say anything about Gypsy, and I never knew about a 15 minute opening to it.

So...I'd like 3-4 new songs... but only from this lineup...
But I'd rather hear them perform deep cuts first...
But I have no interest hearing Temporary One, Sweet Girl, Bleed to Love Her, My Little Demon, or anything else post Tango unless it's from the BTM era...
But yeah, I'd still like that 3-4 song EP of new material from the current lineup.

Those were good songs!

They can do it fast if Finn already has something worked up that they can just put some harmonies on, and Stevie can put one of her old poems to a Campbell instrumental.

They won't be too picky if they're going to do this. Fleetwood Mac will go from "Perfectionism" to "Good enough", I imagine. You can achieve the latter a lot more quickly.

Sorry, Mitzo!

But even though you like them, do you like them enough that you'd rather hear them at the expense of other songs? I'd rather hear Angel, Straight Back, That's Alright, No Questions Asked, even Paper Doll over Sweet Girl. Or Brown Eyes, As Long As You Follow, or Isn't It Midnight over Temporary One. Especially since both those songs are recorded for posterity on the Dance DVD.

More than any other song, I'm really hoping they perform As Long As You Follow, but it seems so unlikely... but that is the one song that would guarantee I would be there to see them in concert.

No I might not prefer them over some of the others you list, although I have never understood the fascination for embarrassing honky-tonk Angel and WTF Paper Doll. I just see those two tunes Temporary One and Sweet Girl as the best new tunes on The Dance. Agreed about As Long as you Follow. It was real group effort with the layered harmonies and I hope for this type of thing in recordings by the new lineup.

Paper Doll sucks (imo) but Angel?? I love the vibe and production on Angel, her songs on Tusk were so perfectly produced. They had that trace of something 'different' that ran all throughout Tusk while still being classic Stevie. Her best collection of songs if you ask me.

Paper Doll- if I could describe this song in one word, it would have to be "why." As in, why did anyone in FM think this would be a good song to record LOL. It's definitely a one of a kind, thank God. I guess it's kind of catchy, but so odd. Actually, it might be interesting live, but downright impossible to sing live.

Angel is also an odd song for me... I feel like it kind of goes on and on and finishes weakly, but since I'd love to hear deep cuts, I'd be fine if they did this live. But I'd prefer That's Alright or Straight Back over Angel. I feel like Stevie could do to Straight Back live what she did to Silver Springs during the Dance.

Her Tusk songs are great but to me Angel is by far the weakest in terms of production, like they just gave up and hammered away at a Hammond organ with overpowering bass, although the vocal is powerful. To me the sound of Angel is a depressing preview of her early solo work. Good songs and vocals diminished by unimaginative production.

I don’t want Stevie to butcher Angel (she doesn’t have the range to do it justice anymore), and I would take Sweet Girl over NQA or especially Paper Doll (grating song). I WOULD rather have That’s Alright or Straight Back, though.

I’ve heard live versions of Brown Eyes and Isn’t It Midnight, so that’s a wash, and Temporary One would fill a different place in the set. I would rather have ALAYF, though.

I see what you mean tbh although I do still like the song, I think it's just the fun vibe of it. I like Stevie's first solo album a lot and maybe half of her second but even then I also have always thought the production just didn't have that something special that was in her FM work. It was still good but there was a missing quality. If you listen to all of Bella Donna and then listen to Gypsy recorded just one year later, that becomes so obvious. What's in Gypsy is nowhere on Bella Donna or Wild Heart. And her later solo albums had terrible production. I know some people like them but for me, yikes. Her songwriting style and voice had changed yes and that 80s production was a big thing yes, but even on Tango in the Night, WISYA which is overall a questionable song that many people think is horrible (although I like it) still has gorgeous music. Can't really say the same about anything on RAL or TOSOTM.

Wellll... I don't hate it at all, and it's definitely an unusual song. I definitely don't skip it, because for me it's almost like a train wreck. The jangly music, pointed lyrics, and not bad vocal by Stevie definitely keeps my interest, I have to admit.

We all have our little favorites. I think Book of Love is one of Lindsey's best songs, but it seems to fly beneath the radar here.

I looooooooove Book of Love. So, so good. The melody and his vocal are just perfect. In general I think his Mirage songs (sans Empire State which is terrible) are better than people give them credit for.

Plus "Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else" and "You like a man with a future; you like a woman with a past" are references to Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. I love literary Stevie!

I love the line "You prefer to be just a little bit in and out of agony."

The way that clever Wilde line "Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else" keeps popping up as a thematic and musical thread, and the way Stevie overlaps it, is cool.

Plus it's got a great beat!

Another Paper Doll fan here. What's not to like about it? (although I know it's down to personal taste). It's a great, melodic uplifting tune, with a catchy hook and lovely harmonies. I had no idea about this provenance to the lyrics of Paper Doll.

I'd been under the impression that Rick Vito co-wrote the lyrics--not Oscar Wilde.

Is there a difference between what they actually play and what gets played on TV tho? Like for their Hyde park performance, TV shows 3 songs but they play a full 23 song set that you can see on YouTube. I’m assuming with the number of bands it won’t be 20 songs, but maybe we can get a glimpse of 8-10 songs from this?

iHeart’s Daytime Stage offers a discovery zone of rising talent
Image
Greta Van Fleet

Thu, Sep 20, 2018 (2 a.m.)

When you have a music festival calendar as blessedly abundant as Las Vegas’, you’re bound to have some overlap. That bears out every second-to-last weekend in September, with Life is Beautiful taking over the streets of Downtown Las Vegas and the iHeartRadio Music Festival holding court on the Strip. The focal point of the latter event, now in its eighth year, takes place September 21 and 22 in T-Mobile Arena, featuring artist-of-the-moment Childish Gambino, Vegas-shy crooner Sam Smith, the human musical-chair game that is Fleetwood Mac, and home-bred acts Imagine Dragons and Panic! At the Disco. But the Daytime Stage complement, held Saturday at Las Vegas Festival Grounds, could be the more interesting iHeartRadio event. Here’s why:

1. It’s time for live music to return to outdoor Strip spots again. If music fans have second-guessed their attendance at urban music festivals after the October 1 shooting, that’s understandable. The Daytime Stage event—formerly held at the now-closed Las Vegas Village, also the site of Route 91 Harvest Festival—will still be exposed to its surroundings. But so was May’s Punk Rock Bowling weekender and many other open-air events that have transpired at various metropolitan locales in the past 11 months without incident. The Strip remains a magical backdrop for concerts and music festivals. With security more beefed up than ever, let’s not abdicate our unique infrastructure—or sacrifice our right to celebratory gatherings.

2. New venue, who dis? Las Vegas Festival Grounds has seen about as much action as an awkward teenager. Rock in Rio christened the Circus Circus-adjacent space in 2015, ACM’s Party for a Cause followed in 2016 and, corporate events aside, that’s it—which is a shame. Besides its unique location, the 35-acre venue boasts a spacious layout, turf and a tree-laden island for weary festivalgoers, and permanent restroom facilities. It deserves to be cleared of its cobwebs.

3. The discovery zone. While the big-sis event down the street at T-Mobile will focus on the hit-heavy mini-sets by superstars, the Daytime Stage’s primary purpose is highlighting songs you’re likely not sick of hearing yet, from artists you can see cheaply before they break big. And if you still crave familiar sounds, fret not—fresh-faced Spotify favorites like Logic, Dua Lipa, 5 Seconds of Summer and Lil Uzi Vert top the 17-act bill.

4. The Vegas debut of Greta Van Fleet. Hopes are high for this Michigan quartet, which has been riding the buzz train thanks to its unabashed re-creation of 1970s rock and reputation for incendiary live shows. With its debut long-player Anthem of the Peaceful Army out next month, Greta Van Fleet’s first-ever Vegas appearance aims to be momentous.

5. Every color of the pop rainbow. From the electro-R&B of Bazzi and the throwback soul of Leon Bridges to the unique rock/rap hybridization of Grandson and the country-flavored comedy of Bobby Bones and the Raging Idiots, everyone’s pop preferences are covered—at a venue that thankfully isn’t.

Even before Ellen aired I knew I wasn’t going to hold it against them or even take the performance in consideration when judging this new band.

But I’m absolutely holding them accountable tonight so to speak  With 5 To 5 songs there better be 1-2 outside the box or exciting choices. ANYTHING to prove that Mick is following thru on the one selling point he’s been peddling for this tour: “the opening up the set list with exciting possibilities.” Not what I “want” although I do but what Thwybhave literally been marketing this tour on.

If they had more then 3 songs to play and were ever doing a tour for a new album, they would danm well include one new song at least. Well this 50 year career spanning tour better fu**ing include all parts of the span tonight. Or else I give up on this line up and will see 3-4 Lindsey shows instead.

But I’ll forgive safe choices if they give a truly great performance and wait until opening night to actually judge this line up.

Saw it on Periscope and... They f@cking killed it. Stevie sang GDW and Christine let it rip with Don't Stop. Judging by tonight's performance she is singing just the f#ck fine. Wow.

Watched it as well.

- Chain was better. Im guessing its from Mike but that twangy guitar stuff? I like it.

- Little Lies and Gold Dust are essentially the same, at least to me so good.

- Second Hand News - hard pass. Not here for Lindsey covers. Only one Ill except is GYOW and thats cause they practically have to. If Neil does Never Going Back, I will take to the streets and riot.

- Neil sounded alright on Dont Stop.

thanks elle :xoxo:

I had just found a couple clips on Twitter of Little Lies and the Chain.

So they've moved Neil over to the 'guitar player' side of the stage and not between Stevie and Chris anymore.

I haven't seen any clips of SHN but if they are really having Neil do that then this clusterf^ck has gone off the rails. Will they be doing I'm So Afraid?? Does Mike have to emulate ALL of Lindsey's solos?? Playing Lindsey's parts on Stevie/Chris songs is one thing, doing cover versions of LBs stuff is another. What a bunch of a$$holes.

When the guy in the audience says "No idea who these people are," maybe he's referring to Neil and Mike.

I perversely kinda like this because you know, a lotta years have gone by since FM was in anyway relevant to the current music scene. That ended in the 80s. So pissing off the fans who actually know WTF you are and would be continuing to support you til you croak is just a c u next tuesday kinda move.

thanks for the link.

Looks like the second keyboard player got moved from behind Mike to over behind Christine. Doesn't look like same guy as on ellen... but hard to tell.

They have added a percussionist, can't tell if its Taku? I got as a far as Little Lies and the start of SHN and felt sick. **** these people.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be, but still Fakewood Mac and SHN - that's totally inappropriate and just ****ty. "Someone - has taken my place". WTF?

Lol, I knew they would end up doing Second Hand News. I mean it was terrible, but I just knew for some reason.

I'm speechless that they had the balls to do SHN.....just when you think this new band can't go any lower they do this....I guess Tusk is next?!

nah, they really gotta have balls if they do ISA

That Second Hand News is the most disgusting thing this band has ever did, and that is saying a LOT. Finn was out of tune, and Madame Goat's harmonies sounded more like discords. And his trying to imitate Lindsey's quirky sound effects was just embarrassing. I now have no regrets I have done with this band. Thirty++ years of loyalty just to hear that piece of garbage.

Thanks for posting! I was a bit worried after the Ellen clips but they are going to be just fine on this tour. Excited! The Chain was much better than on TV. Christine sounded better on Little Lies than she did on the BuckVie show. Hysterical that they did SHN.

Think of how many people would have seen them on tv tonight for the first time. What an incredibly stupid and selfish move for them to exclude themselves.

It was nice to be able to view them from different people's seats in the audience. But the show is just tired in my opinion. The endless GDW has been performed to death. The only entertaining part about it to me was the catwalk. But why doesn't Stevie go all the way to the end of the catwalk and then twirl her way back to the stage? That would be really awesome to see. BTW it was exactly 3 years ago on Sept. 21, 2015(pictured) that she walked the catwalk with Dave Grohl and friend's during, you guessed it, GDW. I wish FM could be the type of band who could give us all new arrangements on each new tour. It's so hard for me to pretend to enjoy this after seeing them perform in their heydays of Tusk and Mirage. Watching them on tv puts me to sleep but in person I feel more excitement because I am in the moment.

Stunned they sang Second Hand News.

Thrilled they didn't sing Stop Dragging My Heart Around.

Thankful they sang Little Lies.

Relieved from the reviews I read on line that they did great. I can't take any negative reviews I read on this board seriously, because there's no objectivity, with the exception of a few posters.

I thought they were really good on all four numbers but man, is Christine's voice shot. How the hell is going to make it through a long world tour? Sad, really.

SHN, wow, just wow.....what part of inappropriate do they not understand?

Chris, how can she agree to these kinds of things? She's probably the only one who might ever interact with Lindsey again and doesn't she know how sh*tty this looks?

My thoughts were the flash and flare really made the show look good, not sound good.

But as soon as SHN started, my jaw dropped.

I watched last night. Someone on Ivory Keys was posting video. They did the Chain. It sounded better than on Ellen, but I couldn't stand when Neil sang the line, I can still hear you saying, He was shouting over everybody. Didn't work for me. They did Little Lies, I thought that was an odd choice, considering all the great songs Chris has. Her voice isn't very good now, sad to say. I wonder too how she'll make it thru a whole tour. Watching another video this morning, I can see she doesn't even play on The Chain. Then they did Second Hand News and my mouth fell open. How dare they? It's just wrong. The same 'ol Gold Dust Woman, please a new arrangement. It was the highlight though. Stevie on the catwalk was pretty cool. I didn't like the "wail" she did though. Her voice has no range anymore. Then Don't Stop which was fine. I'm glad I'm not going to see them on this tour. It's just not the same without Lindsey. I wondered if Little Lies was done towards Lindsey. And Second Hand News was an FU to him. But I'm sure he gets paid when they sing it. I also heard Stevie sing at the end of GDW "you can't shake me down" Towards Lindsey perhaps? Or I'm just reading into something not true at all. I also didn't care for Stevie's weird pronunciation of can't. Trying to do an English accent maybe.

How dare they have the barefaced cheek to do SHN!!!!! Lindsey is alive and well and performing. They should leave his songs, apart from co-writes and GYOW, alone and do things like Oh Well instead as in the Billy/Rick era.

Perhaps it was just a fave of Neil’s...

i actually thought it sounded ok, for a cover band. they are trying to replicate the original recordings as close as possible.

they are not rock band anymore, and were not doing live song interpretations like LB does, just replicating his phrasing and his recorded guitar licks. it was not exciting live music, there were no guitar jams and fun on stage on Little Lies like LB' has been doing on OWTS and BuckVie tours, but it will make unsuspected general audience who have no clue who is or is not or have ever been in the band happy to hear songs they came to hear.

i now think they will skip GYOW all together. that would be interesting!

i found it interesting that like at Musicares, their greatest hits short set had only 1 SN song. and yet they were constantly showing her on video screens. she's the face of the band, with the least big arena hits. half of the set was Christine songs, and 3 out of 5 songs with lead Lindsey vocal. no wonder that Mike C as only replacement couldn't work.

Mike Campbell.. Can he play? Or yes he can. After listening to this very short set, I enjoyed Mike's guitar playing. (Do I prefer Lindsey? Absolutely, but this is where the band is and Mike is excellent).

Overall, I thought the band sounded good, as they should since there are like 1,000 seasoned musicians on stage. I did like the catwalk on Gold Dust, but I'm assuming this stage setup is only for this venue and the tour stage will not have the walk. And I do wish Stevie would switch up the ending a bit. Still good. I'm mean, do we really expect Fleetwood Mac to reinvent these songs at this point.

Besides no Lindsey, my only issue is Neil Finn. I'm not real familiar with this guy's music - and he is talented - but he doesn't fit into Fleetwood Mac and lacks chemistry with Stevie and Chris.

About them doing songs written by Lindsey - they are Fleetwood Mac songs and Second Hand News is a great concert rocker. However, I would prefer no Lindsey songs, including no Go Your Own Way - the Mac has a deep catalog and should bring in some Stevie and Chris deep cuts.

The audience seemed to love them and they were decent - but Lindsey is definitely missed.

I agree, if they're going to do Gold Dust Woman, use a new arrangement; yet at the same time, you pointed out it was the highlight, so in their eyes, they might be thinking leave it as it is, because it's such a crowd pleaser.

No way were they doing songs to send a message to Lindsey. They likely chose the songs they felt most comfortable doing while preparing for the tour, or songs they enjoyed performing the most, or that they felt displayed their harmonies. While I'm stunned they performed Second Hand News, I guess in hindsight it makes sense, as it showcases their harmonies and has great guitar playing. Also, it was a surprise, as I'm sure NO ONE expected d them to play it. Personally, I would have preferred I Don't Want to Know, but they went with a song that features 3 vocalists. It is a FM song, and 4 of the 5 current members recorded it, so even though I'm surprised, there it is. But if they performed SHN, they are definitely going to play Go Your Own Way, no question.

Little Lies makes sense, it was a huge hit and features great harmonies. No way was it directed towards Lindsey. The catwalk sounds interesting but I'm sure it was just for the festival and won't be on their tour, unfortunately. That would be awesome if they shook their stage up and added it, though.

I love all the people who hate Lindsey (not the people who are not his biggest fans, but the real haters) who are always banging on about how it's fine, it's great, those are band songs so they should do them blah blah blah.

But I guarantee you (and here's where they'll all jump on and say this isn't so) if LB had orchestrated her ouster, and the brought on some chick to stand there and mimic her doing GDW and everything else-- all her little vocal quirks, "you can't save me now" and all that jazz...they'd be barking like mad dogs. Again, they'll deny it, but if their girl was replaced and they put some chick in black dresses and a top hat to stand there and imitate Stevie they'd be p*ssed. *I* would be p*ssed, as I would be if they got another keyboardist who tried to be Chris. Someone standing in and not just playing but trying to emulate the interactions onstage of the ousted member with the other band members-- beyond cheesy.

I thought so too, and they'll be just fine on the tour. When this happened in 1987-88, people were saying the same things, had the same arguments. But people went, had a great time, and heard songs the band hadn't played in years. I'd imagine it will be the same with the latest incarnation. The band seems happy on stage, and they deserve to be. The haters can look forward to The Dance 2.

Just....
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Edited to add: not you Golddustwoman,:xoxo: just their hiding themselves:lol::lol:

I think they just didn't want to face the possibility of a bad mix again and the backlash. This was a completely different setting and a perfect one to showcase the new band with the same name that you are (and should be) proud of. That's probably why they were added in the first place. If Mariah friggin' Carey is willing to be streamed live after the New Years Eve debacle then certainly FM should have cowboyed up. FM is the ONLY act that won't be streamed live. It makes them look like a ridiculous bunch of divas. Yes I'm still pissed.

i was talking to someone on facebook, and they were all bent out of shape because of the "cover band" moniker. i don't think 1987 is the right comparison even though people like to bring it up. this was my response:

to people complaining about current version of the "musical chairs" band FM being called a cover band:

remember when you saw Buckingham McVie live and complained how you missed Stevie on Christine's hit Little Lies or you didn't like Christine-Lindsey interactions on GYOW because the song was originally directed at SN?
now remember - they didn't call themselves Fleetwood Mac and they didn't cover any Stevie songs. just their own - Buckingham and McVie songs. yet, you sighed and were sad?

now imagine if they did call themselves Fleetwood Mac and Mick and John agreed to tour those new songs the 4-some version of FM recorded and they also just for a good measure picked a SN song to cover. maybe Landslide (since LB-composed guitar solo is a huge part of the song recognition). how would you feel then?

that's how many FM fans feel now.

this is way more apt comparison than 1987. except Fleetwood Mac version called BuckVie was creative and moving forward, while the current musical chairs version is trying their hardest to be even more faithful greatest hits nostalgia act then they've been since 2009.

now - i'm not saying i feel this way. personally i feel Lindsey is finally liberated to move forward and i never want to see him being stifled in FM again. and i hope he's worked out a deal where he's getting nice fat checks from them doing his songs live while not allowing him to be there with them.

Hmmm... interesting point. I agree that if FM had replaced Stevie with another woman and put her in a black dress and doing her vocal quirks and mimicking her dancing, people would be upset. But if the band let the new female singer bring her own style, like Bekka did when she replaced Stevie, then most people would have been ok with it. In this case, Neil seems different enough from Lindsey that the problem you mention shouldn't be an issue. Now if Neil wore a grey vest and pants, and a hat from which underneath he sported a mop of luscious curly hair like Lindsey had during their Mirage tour, I would be with you completely!

It would have been nice, but their management probably decided to hold it back for the TV rebroadcast on Oct 7th to coincide with the start of the tour.

Mike, other than playing the requisite guitar bits, is clearly totally himself in his appearance and behavior onstage and no one has one iota of an issue with that that I've heard.

Neil, on the other hand, was clearly brought in to fill in the third "frontman/lead singer" slot, and as such is trying to emulate much of the interaction LB had with the band. He's no LB (which is why they had to get Mike) and it's cheesy.

It just makes it all the more clear to me at least that Stevie wanted Mike in the band and couldn't say his name fast enough after giving her ultimatum about LB. Then it was like, oh, Mike isn't that kind of kinetic energy frontman, so we need someone else to do the singing and the fronting. Even in the CBS interview they admitted they brought in Mike asap and then had to go on a search for a second person. All to make her happy.

It would be like kicking her out, then having to find two people to replace her-- one to sing, and one who had the tambourine chops.

Speaking only for myself, obviously, but I would have absolutely no problem with that. In fact, I would love it because that would be a way for the band to acknowledge Stevie's contribution to the band and it would be beautiful to hear either Christine or Lindsey sing it in their own style. I would love it if FM had experimented more with sharing their vocals on each other's songs live. And Stevie and Lindsey did sing Say You Love Me when Christine was gone, along with Don't Stop, I think. But am I the only one who gets goosebumps at the idea of Lindsey singing Landslide?

However, I suspect I would be in the minority and that you're right- some people would be very angry if Lindsey or Christine sang a Stevie song. But I would not be one of those fans.

We didn't have the social media onslaught in '87 - '88 that we do know. This is quite a bit more intense.

Glad you liked it! What did you think of Neil"s performance with in FM as opposed to when he's solo or with Crowded House or Split Enz? Did you feel like he blended in ok?

I think the voices blended fairly well together.

Vocally, it wasn't the beautiful blend that Neil achieves with his brother Tim Finn or Mark Hart (from Crowded House) but it was very good. The tough thing is that Stevie and Christine or so gravely but I'm sure it will get better as the tour goes on.

Musically, Neil seemed assured and in command. Would love to see his humor come out a bit. He's usually hilarious at Crowded House concerts especially his interplay with band members so would love to see Neil banter a bit with Stevie and Mick.

They sounded good but Neil sounded horrible and has no chemistry with the ladies. He's got to go!

I really can't see how anyone can say Neil sounded horrible. He sounded good to me. As far as chemistry, Neil is such an affable team-player that any chemistry issue would fall on Stevie and Christine. The two ladies do their own thing and don't seem too interested in interacting with Neil or Mike on stage. Neil is incredible at stage banter and I'd love to see him chat a bit on stage with the other band members and perhaps he'll do that as the tour goes on.

I tend to agree that Second Hand News wasn't the best choice for such a short set. "Oh Well" would have been a much better choice. That being said, I thought Neil and Stevie did just fine with the vocal on that song. And I wonder if they chose Second Hand News as kind of lyrical wink ...

Although I think they could get away without doing any Lindsey songs, I assumed Go Your Own Way, and possibly Tusk would be in the set. Looks like Second Hand News is in, but I doubt if Not That Funny or Big Love makes the cut. Then again, you never know with this band.

And I'm not anti-Lindsey songs in the set (well, maybe I am a bit), I just don't think Neil is up to the task at all. I really wasn't impressed with him from last night's show. Nothing against the guy, but I don't feel him.

Hey, thanks for that! That's where I watched it...into the wee hours of the morning.

The band sounds good. No surprise there. It's still Mick, John, and Christine. Throw in MC and a few other seasoned veteran players and FM can still sound good. Kudos to Mike for playing some new guitar interpretations. But everything else was the same old same old. Nothing new. Just FM milking the same tired songs over and over again in the same tired old way. BLAH. Maybe they will dig deep into the FM catalog, but I highly doubt it. At best, we'll, you'll get "Oh Well" and "Man Of The World". Beings that they chose to do SHN is even more of an indication that they will stick to the Rumours 5 formula songs. By the way, Neil sucked singing that song. He doesn't have the same kind of angst that Lindsey has when he sings.

Just finished watching the iHeart performance. It wasn't horrible. They seemed genuinely happy to be on stage together, and in general I think they all sounded decent. It is a bit jarring to hear Neil sing Lindsey's parts, especially on "Second Hand News," but he can definitely sing. To be honest, I was mainly disappointed in Miss Nicks. She really refuses to change up anything: same black dress as always, same vocal "flourishes" in "The Chain," same exact performance of "Gold Dust Woman." I thought having Mike in the band might make her more willing and confident to take some different approaches to her songs. Clearly, we'll be getting the same old performances from her on this tour that we've seen time and again. That's too bad. I thought the whole point of firing Lindsey was to open up the possibilities of the band.

Alas, the more things change, the more they stay the same.....

I think maybe one of the differences between the Rick and Billy years and this new incarnation of the band, is that after 1982's Mirage tour, which was very short by the way, we didn't hear anything from the band. We had a 5 year drought.

Then when Tango was done and Lindsey left and we really got the whole ugly story then, so I was ok with Rick and Billy, things just got bad with Lindsey at that point, drugs, egos etc.... I understood, But I wanted to hear some Mac.

With this craziness of Lindsey leaving for what reason we really don't know yet, and Mike and Neil coming on, we just had a performance from the band at Musicares in January and that was the band we have been used to for years. It's just hard to accept new people at this point. These are their final years, I just hate watching it without Lindsey. Lindsey has an interview with Redbeard in early October. We'll definitely hear more about what happened. But I think even if it was all Lindsey's fault, I just don't get this new group. I look at Mike and I think of Tom. I look at Neil and he just doesn't fit in. He's a good singer and I love Crowded House, but it just doesn't work.

In fairness, we're going to have to wait for a 24 or so song set to make more of an informed judgement, but my initial worry is about Mr Finn: as others have said, good at back-up vocals, but a little bland at other times. I haven't felt so sick since England lost to Germany in the 1990 World Cup semi-final on penalties when I heard them do SHN. No, Mick, don't make him do it again. Please. It's not good and it's not clever. I suppose they had to give him one song to at least introduce him and a Peter (or Bob or Danny, dream on) song was not going to work in a five song set on their first outing before a live audience. Those clones on Ellen don't count.

Now, Mike Campbell, not knowing much about him beforehand, is a different matter. I liked his gothic, doom-laden presence, his little guitar noodles that helped show that if he is going to appear in the Mac universe he can add a little personal stamp on their songs without being arrogant enough to clam an unwarranted ownership on them. Maybe I'm wrong, but he was the only good part of a tired and redundant Don't Stop.

We all know about Stevie and Chris's declining range. But, honestly, how good can we expect these seventy-something ladies to be? You pays your money... They are serviceable, but the voices' owners, Stevie especially, still have presence. If their larynxes hold out, the tour will be OK.

There are some signs of interest. If I really believed that this line-up will produce some new music I might even be cautiously optimistic. But yesterday's gone and there aren't really enough tomorrows left...

With a catalog as big as this band has, there is just no effing reason. If Lindsey was no longer alive, it would feel like a tribute.
But given the circumstances, it feels weird, cheap, unimaginative, and disrespectful.

I don't have a problem with them singing Lindsey songs. As long as they don't break out into Wrong or something.

This was better. It still seems a bit dull as a whole. Mike looks like a dead man holding a guitar. He looks bored to death. I won't compare Billy and Rick because they had so much energy and I enjoyed their shows to death. (but they were much younger)

I thought Christine sounded fine. She actually played Don't Stop!! She can play the keyboards??!! She still goes for most of her notes. And I thought $tevie had much better intonation this time around. Quite nasal as usual on GDW. I didn't hate it, though.

Wow, Mick and John sounded phenomenal. Mick is drumming as good as I've ever seen him. He sort of saved SHN from the sloppy mess that it was. I thought $tevie's voice saved SHN a bit too. They should drop that song and do Silver Heals from Heroes.

No matter who the lead guitarist is. THIS BAND NEEDS NEW MUSIC MORE THAN ANY BAND I'VE EVER CARED ABOUT. This set is so tired, I could barely stay curious.

A few thoughts:
1. Much better than Ellen - THIS should have been the first appearance of the new line up, rather than tv chat show.
2. Despite everything that has happened, it's always a thrill to see them come on stage.
3. The Chain -ok except for John's bass solo is too low. Say what you will about Mick, he really puts his heart into his drumming.
Little Lies - I liked this .Ok, Chris's voice is shot, but I prefer to hear it as it is rather than have her synching.Liked Mike's guitar variation on the outro to this song.
SHN -thought they would never play this again! I love this song - it's just going to take a while to get used to Neil's voice.
Gold Dust Woman - I thought this should have been out of the set ages ago and I still feel the same. Tedious. Cat walk is embarrassing.
Don't Stop - I guess they HAVE to play this, although I would gladly live without ever hearing it again. At least Chris WAS playing here!

Definitely looking forward to the opening shows.

Stevie Nicks Sang, Moved & Looked Amazing At The iHeartRadio Music Festival

Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974, but she's been performing live since 1966, and while the legendary singer has been working for decades, if you saw her at this year's iHeartRadio Music Festival, you'd swear she is just an incredibly talented up-and-coming musician. During the band's set, Stevie showed how amazing she sounds, how gracefully she moves and how flawless she looks.

Nicks slayed on every song the band performed - "The Chain," "Little Lies," "Second Hand News," "Gold Dust Woman," and of course, their closer, the group's classic hit, "Don't Stop." Her voice was full and smooth, and if it's changed since she started out, it's only because it's gotten better.

wow - in case anyone was still wondering what Lindsey ouster was about? you know, like for example during Lindsey-tenure you wouldn't have only SN for extended periods on every video screen during everyone else's songs. you just have to read this and laugh. :blob1::blob2: interestingly, iheart and their affiliate tweets were the only ones about FM as they were playing. nobody else in that arena even knew who they were. and most people were not even there yet. and now we have this article from iheart that reads like a cheap PR piece (i was just coming here to post it in Stevie forum since that article is certainly not about FM -

Ooooo don’t you look back #DontStop #iHeartFestival

Meanwhile, the frontwoman's stage presence was stronger than ever. She moved gracefully along with every note Fleetwood Mac played.

Even Stevie's tambourine skills are top notch:

And of course, the rock goddess looked stunning too:

I guess she's just happier now that Lindsey's not there. She should've just quit and gone solo if she could stand him that little. Guess Mick just can't contemplate a Mac without her tho.

Variety said "stage banter was absent". In other words, they miss Lindsey too.

Sorry, but Lindsey and Stevie have the worst stage banter. Lindsey just rehashes his therapy sessions, which is about as interesting as watching paint dry, and Stevie rambles on and on about nothing.

Stevie is fierce and they were a lot better than on Ellen. Truth is truth. But playing SHN is a disgrace. Also, having strong feelings about the new band and what has gone down doesn’t make someone a hater.

I'd rather they not play any Lindsey songs for the simple reason of opening up more spots for songs we haven't heard or haven't heard in a long time, but on the other hand; it would seem unrealistic that they would have a male singer and not give him much to do besides backup or duet singing. For that reason I imagine we will see some Lindsey songs. I hope not many. More deep cuts please.

I think Blue Letter should have taken its place. Lindsey led on it but didn't write it, it's a similar kind of vibe to SHN and there could have been some opportunities for harmonisation. Didn't Billy do it, back in 87/88? I suppose it would be retreading old ground, though even though that was 30 years (!) ago...

Oh my, isn't that crazy? Let's hope time makes us bolder.

Agreed. This new lineup gives the band a chance to "re-earth" some of those great songs from the pre-Lindsey years. They can certainly play some of the "hits" but why not add songs like "Hypnotized", "Oh Well", "Come a Little Bit Closer", "Dust", "For Your Love", "Green Manalishi". "Man of The World", "Sentimental Lady", "Spare a Little of Your Love", "Why", etc.

Exactly - a cover like "Blue Letter" would have been a much better idea. If they must do Lindsey leads, they could use more discretion and tact with what they choose. I know Rumours is their biggest album, but they're already going to be doing "The Chain," "Dreams," "Gold Dust Woman", "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun" (presumably) and "Go Your Own Way" (maybe "Songbird" if Christine is up to it). Do they really need "Second Hand News" as well? Watch them pull out "Never Going Back Again" for good measure.

Just when you think they can't disappoint you more...

Noooooo. The only upside to Lindsey getting the boot is we don't have to hear Never Going Back Again (actually if they played it 'properly' it might be quite welcome). To really put the boot in though, maybe they'll play Go Insane.
Joking aside, I can see them taking this opportunity to play I Don't Want To Know.

I wonder if one reason they did Second Hand News was because Neil wanted to? I mean, it's a fun song to listen to, so maybe it's a fun song to perform.

If they performed I Don't Want to Know, I would be very very pleased :blob1::blob2: :]

I agree, Never Going Back Again is so atrocious live, it's almost ruined the album version for me, and it used to be a favorite of mine. I have to admit it would be interesting to hear Neil sing it. It would also be interesting if FM performed Big Love as a group, like the recorded version. But like others have said, I wish they would perform deep cuts rather than a lot of Lindsey material.

I just said on the Rumours side of the board that I would LOVE some Bob songs, but with all the purported drama with Christine/Bob and the RRHOF situation, one wonders if that would even be possible.
