Took a while to get into but even now I find new things about it every time I hear it.

Sue and Sister Nightbird,
I love it all the way through. I have ever since it was first released.
I even bought the DVD audio version which was pretty amazing. Complete surround sound version.
My entire cd/dvd collection was stolen years ago, but most of it was backed-up on my Itunes. But not the dvd audio version alas :-(

Me too! I do think some songs are overproduced and would've been FAR better had they been simpler (Say Goodbye was ridiculously sped up) but so many songs are actually great. I think the album suits how their voices aged and reflects how so much about them changed as they got older, but they still are 'themselves'.

I was all about SYW when it was released, but haven't listened in its entirety in a while. Recently heard Miranda on SiriusXM FM channel. I enjoy that song along with many others the album.

As far as what should have been or what happened to cause this new lineup, I do not pretend to know. But I'm not satisfied with the current state of the band.

The entire album has grown on me since it came out, but there are a couple songs that just make me scratch my head. Carnival is first on the list. Glad they got some of this out there though. Red Sun could've been a great live song in a full FM show. Alas...

I hope history is kinder to SYW. I'd agree that it was the album that fit them at the time, their voices, their usual themes. Most of it is pretty great and I don't think an album coming from them now would be as good. There are SYW songs that could easily be jettisoned forever (Murrow/Silver Girl to name but two!), but it was a rather strong effort in the end. I wish they'd rotated some of the songs on that tour so more would've got live takes, but I'm glad I got to hear Destiny Rules before it was dropped. I skipped the BuckVie tour because I couldn't justify the expense when Christine's voice was getting dodgy...but I also don't think I missed much considering they were all on YouTube afterwards. Hoping for more music, but I'll always enjoy what we've got so far. BuckVie is a nice treat that I didn't expect but can pull off the shelf every once in a while or merge into a playlist with other newer things.

Carnival Begin is my favorite from this album. The ending is awesome. The song has a hypnotic feel to me. When she sings about 'a new merry go round' I think of 'your mood is like a circus wheel' (even if it's not a direct reference). The line 'summer turned into fall' reminds me of Stevie's Nightbird 'and the summer became the fall'.

Carnival Begin gives me chills from the beginning to the end of the song. It is now one of my favorite Christine songs. It’s my favorite on BuckVie and I was disappointed she did not do it live. I love Too Far Gone and Red Sun too and it was great to hear those live.

Every time one of these Buckingham/ McVie tracks come on my random IPod mixes I just get so pissed that Stevie didn’t participate so this could be called a MAC album. The more I think about this crap that they had to spin this as a “duet” release is really a joke considering there is no duets on the album. It’s a classic Fleetwood Mac album with out Stevie. The only Buckingham/McVie duets I’m aware of is Wold Turning, Don’t Stop and Hold Me.

Wait, Lindsey was actually suggesting they do another double album?

:distress:

Now that might have been worth firing him for.

Not just from a financial standpoint, but even as a fan...

Think--if Tusk and SYW had each hypothetically been spread over two albums instead of crammed into double albums, we'd have FOUR albums to make polls about on here instead of just two. :blob2:

The man has a double album fetish.
There must have been one among those vinyls of his brother's that he got hooked on as a kid.

^^^I did not get the feeling of a duet album at all. I did not even miss Stevie, since her songs tend to be weak and Lindsey tries to save them with overproduction. I DID miss her spicing up the other's songs with some backing vocals, since her voice is by far the most interesting, espcially when used sparsly and in context with good songwriting.
As it is, it's a nice, good album of two people who know and respect each other deeply. Makes the betrayal all the worse.

I agree with all points. Although it wouldn't have killed her to have given them 2-3 songs, and let it have been a FM album. It would have sold much better, and been a very nice swan song for the band. But no....

I love it, too. It’s uneven but SUBSTANTIAL. I admire that. So even if (for me) only slightly more than half the songs are attractive, that’s still a great number. And the ones I don’t care for are still meaty in their own ways.

That said, I agree with Homer that the CM/LB collaboration is the best Mac album since Mirage.

It has a similar style and mode of ISA but that’s it. To say they’re too similar is like saying Songbird and The Way I Feel are too similar: they’re very different songs written and performed in the same style.

I ain’t no Stevie hater, tho I do care about the shi*e they dropped on Lyndsey
BUT
What you say is right....all she had to do was offer up 3 songs.
3 old ones, 3 new ??? and that’s that, job done.
If she is unable to write any new stuff, grab 3 from the cellar or whatever.

I still can’t understand why she didn’t do that..

For what it’s worth I think BuckVie album is fine but would have been better with a couple of Stevie songs

Well, believe it or not, I own every Stevie's vinyl, some rare 45s, I have my crescent moon, I bought a bottle of Fracas (Stevie's perfum) on my last trip to London, and my friends still give me Stevie's things for my birthdays. So, yeah, I don't hate her as much as every Stevie's fan here like to believe.

My dislike for her started exactly when she refused to offer a couple of songs (2 would have also been nice) for what would have been a FM album. That was 100% disdain against Lindsey. She could have done it but she didn't just because it's him.

I think she had problems with interplay within the band once Christine arrived back.
Christine is a strong player and doesn’t have the hang ups Stevie has with Lindsey.
Christine is still musically artistic, and Lindsey relates to this.
I think it’s bad Christine couldn’t put her “oar in”to prevent Lindsey sacking debacle.
That’s it for what it’s worth, once Christine returned the band was doomed...

Yeah, many fans I know support this theory. Some like to believe that she was crying during Say Goodbye at the end of the MGM concert in 2013 because she knew Christine was coming back and that meant her relationship with Lindsey was over. Maybe, who knows.

It was way after her mother died, almost 2 years. I don't think it was one particular thing that made her cry. Just the words probably got to her at that moment, made her think about a lot of the losses she's had in her life etc.

I was at that Vegas show up close. She was really crying and I kept thinking her response seemed disproportionate to Lindsey's song intro. Then again it's hard to stop crying once you start. Most everyone was focused on her (me too) but I looked back and forth from her and Lindsey and he seemed sad too. Not sure sad is the best word to describe it but there was something going on imo. Was this before or after John had cancer tx? I don't remember. If they knew Chris was coming back this could have felt like the end of their chapter as a 4 piece. Whatever was going on it was riveting I'll tell you that.

I don't need to go into what should have been as Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie is perfect without any interference from Stevie. It is a Fleetwood Mac album by another name. Stevie would have worsened the album. The only new song that she's written recently and had the gall to publicly name is My Mother's Rings. Would be a nice album closer. But one song from her would have been just the right amount to me.

And we could go into what could have been with touring too. They shouldn't have continued to tour without Lindsey. They shouldn't have sacked Lindsey to begin with, he was just being a people pleaser to solo and Mac fans by wanting to tour in between Mac dates. But the end of the discussion is, the band called Fleetwood Mac has a new line up and this is likely the last (world) tour they will do. So like them or leave them, end of story.

Yeah, after everything that happened it’s hard to imagine those are real tears. But I guess they were having a normal relationship at that time and then everything went downhill once Christine returned. And she knew it.

I think those tears were real. Stevie gets caught up in the words of songs the way Danny would get emotional when he played the guitar. It’s the music that brings it out of her. To attribute the tears to something specific is dicey. And I certainly don’t think she was crying because Christine was coming back: in fact, she seemed to really want her old pal back again. What she didn’t want was another tour so hard on the heels of the one they just did. She was very unhappy about it and made her feelings known midway through the five-piece’s reunion.

Did Lindsey change toward her once Christine returned? Probably. He no longer had to tolerate her and make so many concessions. He could also force the issue of new music, something Stevie had been avoiding with FM for years.

People keep saying she could have given them 2-3 old or new songs. This is true. But something else might have frozen her: her contributions next to theirs might have seemed thin or anemic—and historically the press has rarely been kind in reviews to Stevie’s FM album contributions, where the five piece is concerned. Rolling Stone, for example, pretty much dismissed Stevie’s contributions to both Mirage and Tango, while praising the musical partnership Lindsey and Christine had forged. At this surge in her career, Stevie is NOT inviting bad press. She seems hell bent on squeezing as much out of her legacy a possible.

This circus opens in almost 2 months (October 3--LB's birthday of all dates) and they are trial running this in September in Vegas
I live in NY--now granted it doesn't coming rolling thru here until next year but this press around this tour is virtually non existent. Even my Ticketmaster updates, which were throwing this in my face 2 months ago aren't mentioning it. My thoughts when this farce was announced in April were wow--if this is a farewell, it's truly sad they are going out this way. Now, almost 4 months later, it's actually an embarrassment to FM if this is their Farewell tour. Barely a footnote. FM management/press really should be working overtime here. I am sure after their last interview they are working on refining their story (lie), but hey, this is what M/S/J/C wanted--you are big boys and girls who make a lot of money--get out there and own your screw up. The promotion around this is really non existent.
Lindsey needs to get some solo work out there now--people are chomping to see him more than his former friends and bandmates.

The bond that Lindsey and Christine have was real. I watched them during the BuckVie shows very closely and they were laughing and having a blast. Not just during the music but.. whispering in each other ears, hugging, being totally playful. They've collaborated the entire time since they've met. The go very well together.

Their body language compared to B/N is a 360. At times, I though $tevie might implode if Lindsey hugged her any longer. You could tell she wanted nothing to do with him.

I hope we find out what Christine's role was in this. It's hard for me to wrap my head around.

Exactly. Sadly, I don't think she's not that kind of person. She probably still think she owes to Mick. I don't know exactly what.

But even if she doesn't think she owes to him, there's still something evil in Fleetwood and the McVies, and now they also have Stevie. It's not the first time they create an alliance to fire someone.

Guess Christine easily forgot what Lindsey did with her music last year.
