I really wasn't sure where to post this, so I apologize if maybe it should've been in a different board!

I found this podcast/interview/radio thing and Sharon Celani was one of the guests. Kinda random if you ask me, but at around the 12.05 mark she talks about the upcoming tour, interestingly she says that they don't go into rehearsals until in August, but the ones that were done earlier with Mike and Neil went well, Mike is a great guitarist and Neil's voice sounds good with Stevie and Christine. The interviewer talks about Lindsey not being there and she says she's really sad about it, that she's a huge fan of Lindsey and again repeats that it's very sad.

Thanks for posting this. The interesting part was Stevie promising Sharon to get her in Fleetwood Mac the whole time. Not until Lindsey left did Stevie finally make true on her word to bring her into the band. Then Fleetwood Mac had back up singers. Funny story that during the Dance Lindsey asked Sharon how she knew the parts of the songs. She told Lindsey she had been singing in Fleetwood Mac for 10 years. LAMO. Lindsey did not even know Stevie brought her back up singers on tour for all those years?
Sharon talked about singing back up for Don't Come Around Here No More. I wish the interviewer could have asked the question that has been debated forever. Is Stevie singing back up on the song? She is not credited but I have always thought I heard her.

That sounds crazy that Lindsey didn't know Sharon had been singing backup with FM, considering Lindsey himself performed with FM on their last show for Behind the Mask. He played guitar for Landslide and performed Go Your Own Way, so it's kind of hard to believe he didn't notice Sharon or the other backup singer.

From Musicares onward that would have been about 6 months. They could have recorded the lions share of an album in that time.
Oh, to think what could have been.
thanks for sharing and pointing out at what times to listen to.
it's interesting to hear her glance over Lindsey "leaving" like he just comes and goes and is "sadly" temporary away now. almost sounds like the band thought throwing him out for a bit is not a big deal. and that maybe they even tried to sell that he "left" to the new band members and even backup band? :distress:
when i was listening to this something else struck me - how some fans eat up anything served by the band or its members, and blindly follow whether or not that goes against any rhyme or reason. like that discussion about the double album. even though we have interviews audio or statements to the contrary from the past, some people just take whatever the newest statement by their favorite is and try to twist any reality to fit that statement. like this "he left" bs that band is trying to serve the public now, and that Sharon is kinda-sorta repeating here. like he has a choice to come and go.
many, many other fans think and don't blindly follow. recently, there were so many of us calling bs on Lindsey and Christine statements that BuckVie album was always gonna be a duo album. we had statements and interviews from years before making it very clear it was gonna be a FM album. these fans call bs from any band members, whether we like them or not.
very interesting dynamic.

Oh, to think what could have been.
Think about this: In the time it took from the beginnings of what became EP and LBCM through today, it’s almost double the time of Peter Green’s tenure in Fleetwood Mac.

yes. that's why Lindsey is so much better off being thrown out of this band that has been only putting barriers in front of him since before SYW. remember how during recording of SYW he was already talking about the next FM album? that was back in like 2001-02. the album that STILL never came out. :distress:
how sad. Stevie Nicks tried to kill that band foir many years now, all the while talking how she never would. she succeeded now.
and that's not trying to talk bad about her. it's just a fact, and anyone who doesn't accept that is just willfully blind. she may have had her reasons, and you may think they are justified or not, but that's what she did. if she was thrown out of FM some time in the last decade plus, we would have had several FM albums in this century. you know it and i know it. yet, the situation is very different now.

I think its an insignificant detail Lindsey could care less about. He probably never saw them live in 1987 and his Landslide in 1990 was probably in and out. I bet if Lindsey would have toured with the band in 1987 Stevie would not have brought Sharon.

isn't it interesting that that's what a Stevie fan would focus on from this whole interview? why would Lindsey know every detail about the band he left to do other things? that would be sick.

LOL yeah, that's sick all right!
Lindsey was at the entire concert, so yeah, I'm surprised he didn't notice there were two backup singers. I mean, how could he miss them? Especially when he was on the stage performing Go Your Own Way with them?!?
I'm a Fleetwood Mac fan, you're a Lindsey fan. You hate Fleetwood Mac, you call them different names, say they're not the real band, etc. I like Lindsey and his music, and I don't bad mouth him. That's the difference between you and I, you try to get people to hate Fleetwood Mac. I don't try to get people to hate Lindsey.

As I’ve said for many, many years, I’m a Fleetwood Mac fan in spite of Stevie, not because of her. John and Christine McVie are probably the biggest reason I keep coming back, but the radically different styles amongst the guitarists is the biggest reason I continue listening to them. Yes, I love Lindsey, especially as someone who grew up with folk music (my uncle was friends with Noel “Paul” Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary), so seeing a folkie rocking out was a game changer. But after I started listening to the entire catalog, so were Peter, Danny, Bob, and Billy in very different ways. “Mystery To Me” was like the third or fourth album I bought, and it was one that I didn’t immediately get, but now it’s top 5 or so. Mike Campbell is always someone I felt was the John McVie of guitar: always tasteful, plays exactly what the song requires without overplaying or leaving one wanting, and criminally underrated, so seeing them together is blowing my mind.
That’s not to say I’m happy about what played out, but I don’t have control over it. I could be angry, but I already got over that last year.

Very true, and I certainly wasn't trying to make a big deal out of it. I simply expressed surprise that he supposedly said he didn't know Sharon had toured with FM, when he shared a stage with her while she was singing backup. Your point makes more sense, that maybe Lindsey just hadn't realized how long Sharon had been touring with them, not that he didn't see her on the night he performed with them.

you know, you seem to be more unhappy about it being called BuckVie than most of us are. i was really annoyed at first, as you know, but in the end, i thought it got their names out there a bit. it is possible that all the backlash now is there because his name was more in public eye last year, than it was with FM for a very long time now. so i'm kinda ambivalent about them calling it BuckVie.
although, better solution would have been to throw out SN at the end of 2016 when she said her definitive no to the album.

Well, you are posting on other threads that people shouldn't attend the upcoming FM tour and you are calling the band fakes. It is Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey, just like it was in 1987 when Lindsey left and Billy and Rick joined, and just like it was still Fleetwood Mac when Stevie and Rick left and Bekka and Dave joined. And again when Billy, Bekka, and Dave were fired and Lindsey and Stevie returned. And it was still Fleetwood Mac when Christine left. And it's Fleetwood Mac now with Lindsey gone and Mike and Neil there. Not to mention Peter Green, Bob Welch, Bob Weston, etc. So yes, it's quite obvious you don't like FM anymore. If I'm wrong, just say you like the band, while posting how happy you are tickets aren't selling out or laughing at other posters who paid top dollar for tickets only to have the prices drop later. I don't recall ANYONE laughing about the poor sales of some of the Buck/Vie dates, or how many of the seats were comped by the casinos they played at, but again, that's the difference between you and other posters here. Shrug all you like, your words are there for everyone to see.

HE WAS FIRED!
So? People get fired. Danny Kirwan was fired. He was the creative mastermind at that point and was the only guitarist/songwriter/collaborator that was actually in the band with Peter Green. He got canned, and two albums later, they made one of their best albums ever.

Exactly, the BuckVie album didn't involve backstabbing and included everyone in Fleetwood Mac, save one (most likely a member of the "faction" mentioned later by Lindsey) who chose not to record with them.

I would be horrified if the band had released a statement like that, and I'm glad they didn't even intimate that there was any sort of problem like what you mentioned. There are some things we the public don't need to know because it's not our business, even though we really want to know what's going on. Besides, let's say FM had said "we can't work with Lindsey anymore because he drinks 5 pints of Tequila a day"- I highly doubt Lindsey would have confirmed their version and we would be right where we are now- arguing over or speculating why Lindsey was fired.
Sadly, people are fired all the time, be it a rock band or a hospital or a fast food joint, and anyone can be fired. Just because we don't know exactly what went down doesn't mean they didn't have a reason. If I had a problem with a co-worker, it's entirely possible one of us would be fired to resolve the situation. That's not unusual at all.
This post isn't my effort to change anybody's mind. It's my way of saying not everyone here feels the need to investigate and try to understand just what happened when, and watch videos and examine every word of an interview or compare timelines or look at social media of band members or reference events from 25 or 40 years ago. If the band as a whole could have worked it out, they would have. They didn't, and I really don't think the reason why matters, because the fans who are angry about his firing will never accept any explanation given. And the fans who are used to this merry go round that is FM just accept it and move on.

Actually it is our business. Ad Sasja pointed out in an earlier post the band is a business, a corporation and we are share holders. I've invested heavily in this band for 41 years and many of us have. The excuses they have given us for firing Lindsey are NOT valid. Heck, they bald faced lied to us, keep spinning the story from "he wanted a wait a year" to "he didn't want to tour". When one of the CEO's of said corporation gets fired for no valid reason, we as share holders have a right to know what's true and what's not.

I so agree with this. That's why I think the 'Stevie has a right to want to be happy' argument I've seen some people make is ridiculous. It's not just about Stevie and that's such a selfish thing to do. Push someone out of a group and affect SO many people all because you don't want the hassle? I'm sure both Lindsey and Stevie are far from perfect people and I doubt he thought she was a cup of tea to work with either, but I am about 500% positive that had he had the power to push her out of the band(which granted, he did not at all have that power), he wouldn't have done so.

WTF are you talking about??? We’re not shareholders, we’re fans who voluntarily decided to follow a band, presumably because we liked their music. The band is under no obligation to any of us. You chose to spend money on what they were selling. That’s NOT an investment, that’s a simple transaction.
It’s a rock band. They get to decide who is in. Sorry you don’t like how they went about it. If I fault them for anything, it’s talking about it at all. They should have just said they parted ways with him for a number of reasons without getting into specifics.

Exactly, no matter how much she grates on him ...he never would have had her fired. Simply because he is LOYAL.....and respects their legacy

We are patrons... a patron is someone who supports an artist financially so they can pursue their art. Like the Medicis were the patrons of Michelangelo. The only thing we can't do that other patrons (e.g. of painters, composers etc) because of the nature of the business, is actually commission a work of art from them in the form of an album. People can, however, commission art from them in the form of a performance, and companies do this all the time-- how many corporate gigs a year does Stevie do? Far, far more than you know. Why? The money, because the performances themselves aren't providing anything new, just the bragging rights to the purchasers of having bought her to sing for them on demand.
So as patrons of their art over the years-- i.e. as the ones who bought so many albums which gave them the financial means and the clout to hold a record contract and make more albums in lush studios, banking on us buying the output which would reimburse the costs.....we definitely have a right to express opinions. And to vote with our future dollars.

Which is basically what I said. Patron is a stuffy way of saying customer of the arts.
They have a product and we voluntarily buy it, under zero obligation to do so.
But, that’s all it is. We’re not financially invested in them, we simply bought their product. I’m no more a shareholder of Fleetwood Mac than I am a McDonald’s because I sometimes get a Big Mac. We have no say in how they run their business, and we’re not owed anything by them.

and, we don't owe them anything. once when their product stopped being interesting to many of us, we stopped buying.
their product is interesting to you, so you'll be buying it.

There are roughly 10 people I work with on a regular basis who fail the 8-hour rule. It's work not camp! I'd love to "help them seek alternative means of employment" (fire is such an ugly word), but in the real world, that's just not feasible. Oh, I'd love to know the color of the sky in this bands world :)

Exactly, and whenever I pay for my Mac I don't want to be handed Whoppers. :p

Exactly. It’s completely voluntary on our part. Personally, I lost interest in them in 2006 and quit going to shows until 2014. The SNLB drama grated on me to no end.

It’s compelling and has the potential to be interesting, and I will definitely be checking it out. Whether or not it is actually interesting remains to be seen.

This is not the same thing as buying a Big Mac. Are we owed anything by them? No not really, but if they really cared about the fans like they say and were decent people, what we feel would matter, just a little.

The biggest story from the interview is what no one is discussing IMHO. The part where Sharon states Stevie always promised her to bring her into Fleetwood Mac many years before Stevie's solo career. I wonder if Stevie asked the band at the time and they said no or Stevie just kept it to yourself until the timing was right (Lindsey left).

I can imagine it probably would've been complicated trying to convince a group that's supposed to be a rock band to welcome her girl backup singers. Especially because they all knew Sharon and Lori weren't just any singers, they were part of Stevie's entourage. Lindsey leaving was a huge thing and switch up so it makes sense that's when she would've best gotten the chance to do it. But Christine definitely wasn't too thrilled at first, I read where she said that she doesn't care where they stand onstage as long as she can't see them

I knew the back up singers was the nasal tambourine b/witches idea.

I knew the back up singers was the nasal tambourine b/witches idea.
And Lindsey was fine with it from 1996-2014. And for his tour with Christine, they used recorded backing vocals to save money. So what's the big deal? I mean, really, what difference does it make?
During the early planning stages of the Tango tour, I thought Lindsey was the one who wanted to add more musicians to the stage in the first place?
Maybe backup singers weren't part of that plan. And if they were, it's probably a safe bet he didn't want Stevie's... :sorry:

Funny you should mention that... I also remember an interview with Mick where he said Lindsey had asked for changes from their previous tours, such as back up singers, and the band had no problem granting his requests if it would help convince him to tour. After Lindsey backed out, Mick said they kept the changes Lindsey had requested, including the backup singers. I think it was a magazine called Q or something like that, and it was back in 1987 or 1988. That was one of the reasons the band was surprised Lindsey backed out of the tour, because they had actually progressed beyond just talking about touring and made plans for a short tour, I think 2 months.

Billy Burnette was going to be a second guitarist/backing vocalist.
