I've been a member here forever...had to rejoin at one point..but I remember when I got my first computer back in 98? I remember my dreams had finally came true of finding crazy fans like me all of this "internet" thingy.
I was on this site when it was a small site known for it's gallery of pictures and news more than anything. Then I found out what message boards were lol ...Hey I was late to this world I was marrying my Jr. High sweetheart from 86 and having kids and jobs.
But I have loved this band since my dad would play the good ole 8-tracks in USS Chrysler boat of a car we had. So anyway, I know there are Stevie haters, Mick haters, Lindsey haters etc....but I can't believe as a group that loves this band and music as much as we all must (or we wouldn't care this much) has just turned on each other. There is already so much of this in this world...and the reason I love music is because of the unity it brings us, old, young, rich, poor every color it doesn't matter. But now If I dare like a member you don't I will get pounced on what you are assuming because you "know how a member is". I will say I can see Mick wanting to tour thats all he knows and THAT'S HOW HE MAKES HIS MONEY. But if anyone thinks Stevie Nicks NEEDS to tour must not go look at what she is worth or Forbes. That girl could of stopped working after the Dixie Chics.
I wasn't on then and don't know if this was here but was everyone (not everyone) but most so hateful and mad when Lindsey left, when the tour was booked??? Did you all throw a fit? Did you blame Lindsey or Stevie? When Stevie and Chris left did you all have a meltdown? Was it as hateful as this. Did you hope the band failed????
I never understood that logic of people, when a band changes their sound or looks you wish ill will on them? That's a sad state to be in. The band you LOVE will never come back and if thats fine with you then leave the boards? Or burn their records or better yet don't buy a ticket. But this hatefulness to each other and the band members, do you think they care? Lindsey and Stevie I believe had made some kind of piece I don't believe Stevie went to Mick with her VOODOO doll begging to get him kicked out of the band. He is her muse and HE HAS SAID THE MUSIC HE STILL WRITES IS ABOUT HER. (Dan Rather) so it's okay for him to still write mushy love songs for her (being married) but God Forbid she still has that love that got away. Yes I do think it is sad not to have Lindsey, but Lindsey has always been a wild bird. He has so many years of being tied down then he gets ancey. I don't think that's Stevie's fault.
If you listened to her reasoning about wanting to tour can you be mad at her? she gave up having kids getting married, to do this. She has had some close people just DIE, (if she wants to talk about it turn down your hearing and let her talk). Maybe she has had a coming to Jesus moment and is scared to stop.
I don't know who is right, who did what but neither do you. We can say we hate it, it sucks, I don't think it will be good yada yada but the hate is crazy.
I was broken hearted to find out about Lindsey, but I know he will be okay. I was happy for Mike Campbell because he lost his band soulmate. So now I think he will be okay. This is probably going to give Neil Finn an experience he's never had, if fans show up. If I could afford to go I would go to as many as I could.
But to put things in priority, Fleetwood will becoming to Indy on Oct. 16. That is the birthday of my late husband of 26 years who just committed suicide. We were together since we were 13/14 our first FM album together was Tango in the Night. We were together a total of 34 years never breaking up. I'm in the final stages of getting my daughter graduated from HS and starting Purdue in the fall. You want to talk real life and problems like I'm sure a lot of people here have.
So yes these are boards and yes opinion away banter, I'd love for someone to come up with the real reason this all happened good or bad. But for the love of God there are people on the other side of the screen. Take Care. and before you blast me please take in consideration....

WOW! Congratulations, you just said exactly what I’ve been thinking but much more eloquently then I could’ve put it.
The part I’ve been starting to post about but then don’t because I can’t figure out how to word it, is that people are treating all the people around her dying as “not an excuse” or something to make fun of her for “milking” too much. I’ve never. Tom Petty was freaking shocking too. I didn’t know him personally and I was upset for days over that. The fact she sort of gets to keep him alive on stage with Mike and maybe singing a few of his songs as a tribute might be cathartic for both stevie and mike and for their fans. If that was her reasoning for this then I support her 100 percent .

Wow, so sorry for your loss.
I completely agree that a lot of people have lost perspective. The age of social media seems to have caused people to feed into their anger and disappointment, and be happy living in a constant state of negtive energy and trumped up outrage. It becomes a bubble for them.
I start chemo on Monday for something not cancer. It’s still chemo. So, Lindsey getting sacked isn’t that big a deal to me. He just sold a house for $19 million. He’s going to be fine. The band got two guys who aren’t embarrassments. They’ll be fine.
There are bigger things in life a lot of us are dealing with. It used to be that coming on here was a way to escape from life’s troubles and talk about something fairly meaningless. Now, it’s almost as depressing as dealing with the real issues.

I'm sorry for your loss, but to be honest this is a forum about the band. It's not about our other problems in life. I have people very sick in my family, but you know what? I'm still pissed about LB being fired. That isn't going to change because other things are going on in my world. If anything it's an escape from the bad stuff going on in our lives and I'm sorry but I have a right to be pissed right now. Again sorry for your loss.

Terribly sorry for your loss. I don't think anyone here would claim Lindsey's firing is on the same level as that kind of tragedy.
But I don't need to be "taught" about "real reality." I could start telling you about my personal problems to prove that I understand suffering but in the end, none of that is relevant to what we're talking about here.
What we're talking about here is the fact that my favorite band has been blown apart by Lindsey's firing. I'm heartbroken by it. I have every right to be. Period.

First of all DO NOT call me pathetic. Secondly this is not everyone else's buzz. Many of us are not happy about this firing. Do you expect us to just repress our feelings and whistle a happy tune? Not going to happen. And BTW I wont bore you with the tragedy I have been through in my life, because it would make your head spin, but let's just say I know about tragedy, but that won't stop me from feeling this way about the current state of FM.

First of all, BellaSoprano, sincere condolences and wishes of strength and courage as you have to somehow find it in you to carry on after your loss and be the mom your daughter needs you to be.
To all of us, with the losses, struggles and hardships that we daily face, I wish the very same strength and courage for all of us.
But this little slice of the world, The Ledge, is a place to come and think about something else for a while, this silly band a lot of us have had innerwoven through a lot of our lifetime, and it's perfectly alright in my book, to venture our opinions here and meet and discuss them. We wouldn't if they didn't matter to us, but they do, and here we are.
Personally, I cannot be fighting for a better world every minute of every day, and this here is part of my diversions and relaxing and thinking and talking about something that, hurray, doesn't matter so much in the grand scheme of things. It's nice!
So, I'll carry on over here, discussing and opining. I don't begrudge people reading about the Kardashians either or watching silly t.v. It's good to have diversions from the heavy things so we can take a break and be a bit refreshed when we have to return to facing them.
Peace.

It's not pathetic for us fans to be upset about LB's firing. After all we are on a FLEETWOOD MAC message board. If ANY place in the world is appropriate for venting about his firing THIS is the place. Is it that big a deal in the scheme of things? No. I'm not a big fan of a lot of things. I live in LA, NEVER ask for autographs etc... But I have loved this band since I'm 15 and this makes me sad that these rich a holes couldn't finish it all out on a high note.

Take comfort in knowing the people on this board (and on social media)
represent a tiny tiny fraction of the smallest percentage of fans.
Most of these people are forgetting that the band has long passed their 30s 40’s 50’s and 60’s.
They are well into retirement age and would never tour unless it’s fun.
They are all loaded.
But look who we put in the White House. Our culture is steeped in hate and narcissism and blame. Don’t pay attention to the hateful narcissistic behavior. Fans who behave this way are always going to be this way - with or without Lindsey, it’ll always be about them and their needs.
Ignore it and enjoy the music. Mike Campbell’s playing is jaw droppingly amazing.
The shows will sell out.

How is anything I'm saying hateful? I didn't call anybody a name (i was called pathetic) and am voicing my opinions on big FM news. What you are saying is that only people who are happy about it should be able to voice their opinion? Isn't that the same thing? Worrying about their own need to feel happy about it?

Condolences all around to everyone who has suffered personal losses. What has happened to this band is yet another loss for those of us who are fans of the Rumours lineup. What’s truly pathetic is that in the twilight stage of their careers, rather than going out with class by either patching things up or disbanding, they chose to fire (yes, it’s an ugly word but it’s the truth) their most musically creative member.
What a wasted opportunity to have Christine McVie rejoin the band only to have band members be forced to go to great lengths to disassociate newly recorded music from the label 'Fleetwood Mac' simply because one member refused to participate. Now this same member seems to be the likely catalyst for Lindsey being ousted from the band. It’s clear that money and/or vengeance, not music, is the driving force for certain key members of this band.
FFS, even the members of ABBA have finally patched things up, recorded new music, and are going out on tour!

Very well said! And yes LB is non stop musically creative. He shaped the sound that make FM break IMO. What he did to their songs production wise is what made them stand out. No one sounded like them.

hmmm.... I think what the band did is sh&tty.....and let's see, that must make me:
Pathetic
Hateful
A Trump voter (which is f&cking hilarious)
a loser with nothing else going on in my life...
A Lindsey fanatic...
Have I missed any of the names that have been thrown around on here by Stevie diehards, who are all upset because they have been called
Children of Stevie
Chiffonheads
If you throw sh&t, it shouldn't be a surprise if some of it splashes back on your shoes.
I have been a Stevie fan forever, but I'm a bigger fan of the Five.
I, like everyone else on here, have a nice, full life outside this forum. Since most people in my life aren't as big a FM-head as I am, I , like most others on here, come here because it is specifically a forum dedicated to talking about....wait for it.... FLEETWOOD MAC!
So people come on here to talk about....wait for it....FLEETWOOD MAC!
Since the biggest thing going on with the band right now is the fact that they fired Lindsey and hired two new people, guess what people are going to talk about.....
Some people think this is the biggest mistake they've ever made, some people think it's a great new chapter, and plenty of others fall somewhere in-between.
This will possibly cause some friction. If you don't like what you are reading, there are plenty of other threads on this site. I do not understand the need to constantly come into a forum where you know you disagree with the majority of comments others are posting, and then complain you disagree with what others are posting.
If you don't like being called names or stereotyped, then BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD and don't turn around and do the same danged thing.
Some folks on here could care less if they get called names and as a result will continue to stir the pot and throw little hand grenades into the mix. :distress:
But you can't come into a band forum and gripe that everyone's talking about the band :shrug::distress:

If you don't like being called names or stereotyped, then BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD and don't turn around and do the same danged thing.
Some folks on here could care less if they get called names and as a result will continue to stir the pot and throw little hand grenades into the mix. :distress:
Great post! I just wanted to respond to one thing in particular- wouldn't it be awesome if, for one day, everyone could agree to post without name calling? Seems unlikely, but it CAN be done. It makes discussions here so much more reasonable, don't you think?
When someone says Lindsey freak, or $tevie, or chiffon head, or anything like that, it shows such a bias that it it tends to make everything they say suspect. If I said "Lindsay freaks can't accept that his touring demands are why he was fired," that would clearly show my bias. Or if I said "Lindsey was fired because $tevie wanted Mike to replace him," again, there's a bias.

Yes, because in this statement you are name-calling the people who are fans of one particular band member. So that is, in fact, name calling.
I said "Lindsey was fired because $tevie wanted Mike to replace him," again, there's a bias
Actually, there's no name calling or insulting in that statement towards any other fans at all. It's merely an OPINION about what actions were taken by band members.
And, maybe this is where some people are having a problem.
Just because someone is offering an opinion about what they think happened within the band, or in a lot of cases, are citing actual statements about what happened made by people who were a lot closer to the action, those are NOT "insults". If someone wants to say Mick is a this or that or Stevie is a diva or Lindsey is a brat, or whatever... THAT IS NOT AN INSULT to anyone on this board for pete's sake. It's someone's opinion, and in some cases a comment based on a statement we have high confidence is actually true about what went on. You can disagree, and offer an alternative perspective, but if someone wants to insult Stevie, or Lindsey for that matter, or Mick, NO ONE in this forum should somehow take that as an insult to THEMSELVES. :distress: Someone hating on a band member is NOT an attack on other fans. Unless they actually insult another fan. :sorry:
People need to stop being so personally offended when someone doesn't like their favorite band member, or when someone proposes a theory they don't like, or when people are talking about a topic you aren't interested in or are tired of discussing.

You are right, I misspoke (or miswrote, rather); a more appropriate example would have been, instead of saying $tevie, I had referred to Stevie superfans as "children of Stevie." It would be an insult to fans to refer to them as either "children of Stevie" or "children of Lindsey," don't you think? The implication is they can't think for themselves.
I agree with everything you said, I just wanted to clear up what I meant.

BellaSoprano sincere condolences on your loss. You spoke truth in your statement. Everyone was shocked on hearing of Lindsey's departure from the band. But the hate and vitriol that is being posted day in and day out is overkill. But I also believe he will be ok and that he was not happy having to do these tours without new music. He thrives on creating music and gets bored with the same tired set list.
Even though there is no new music on this tour they are mixing up the set list with Pre-Rumours songs and Heartbreaker's music also. That makes this tour exciting to see what the two new member's bring to FM original songs and the mix of TP band's songs.
DH and I are being gifted tickets to see them in October in Cleveland, Oh. We are so excited! This band has had many incarnations over the decades, great music always. We will continue to support FM and all previous band members as they are all great artists in their own right.

hmmm.... I think what the band did is sh&tty.....and let's see, that must make me:
Pathetic
To clarify my use of the word “pathetic,” it IS pathetic to say “I'm sorry but I have a right to…” in a thread where someone talked about a husband’s suicide and someone talked about his pending chemo. Like, why even reply at all, far less assert something so unnecessary, unfeeling, and pointless? Why not just ignore it and move on? Is it really THAT important? If it is, that’s kind of pathetic.

My comment was to the broader audience on here and was a canvassing of all the comments that had been thrown around. It was not specifically directed to the OP.
If people can't make the distinction between this being a forum (and in this case the specific threads involved) for talking about FM, that is sadly their problem.
NO ONE has been unsympathetic to the OP, and clearly they were making a call out for help and support. The terrible circumstances leading to that are clearly not the fault of the OP and no one was faulting them for that. Their point was taken -- that there are far, far more important things going on in the world than FM personnel changes. However, again, this is a FLEETWOOD MAC forum, and the threads involved were SPECIFICALLY set up for people to talk about current band events and people's reactions to them. I don't know why that is so hard for people to accept.
The OP, in their personal pain, lashed out in a way at others on this board. So yes, people will respond and did-- offering sympathy for his/her pain while defending their right to discuss the band in a band forum. But others latched onto the OP's point to launch their own ongoing gripes about everyone else's opinions. My remarks were intended for THEM.
But again, let's keep having circular arguments and taking positions about who is allowed to express what opinion and who isn't. :(

He didn't want to tour, as you noted, but the rest of the group had already booked and committed, so they told him they were moving forward with new members. That's being fired.

I don't think you could say he was fired then. He didn't want to tour but as far as we know he was never asking that they cancel the tour because of that so I'm sure he knew they'd go on without him. And in interviews from even before that he kept hinting at the idea that he no longer wanted to be with the band. From how he and just about everyone else has described that whole debacle, he chose to walk away at that extremely inconvienent time so they brought Rick and Billy in and went forward.

Exactly. Right before the final blowout, they were supposed to have a band get together, but Lindsey either never showed up or drove there, but never went and drove off. I think Mick was ready to move on then, but gave it one last shot, which didn’t go so well. Even Lindsey says he left in 1987.

I think someone mentioned this but I cannot find the thread. It would be interesting to speculate how different the band would be if Lindsey had not left in 1987. Up until that time he, Stevie, and Christine were all doing solo and coming back to FM.

I am a big fan of Stevie's solo career, and a big fan of Fleetwood Mac.
But this will be the first tour I am not excited about, and I am not buying tickets. I tried accepting Rick and Billy back when FM tried to replace Lindsey the first time he left, and it just wasn't magical for me(I don't consider FM's "Time" album as "Cannon," and ignored that period).
Combining Mac tours and Stevie solo tours, I have been to 36 of their shows.
I've been following their music since I was 15 years old.
Lindsey's firing shocked the hell out of me.
I am not going to point fingers, because I don't know what truly happened.
We all can speculate, and assume.
But whatever the truth is, in my opinion, if Lindsey Buckingham is no longer part of Fleetwood Mac, the band should break-up.
This is likely their last massive tour.
Fleetwood Mac is a beloved, iconic band.
"Rumours" is now part of pop culture and arguably one of the great albums that defines the 1970's. 31 weeks at #1.
And that line-up of the mighty Mac went on to release 3 more great albums that spun off songs that are now classics, and still get massive airplay.
"Tusk"(an album I've always loved) was considered a flop in it's day, simply because it didn't sell the massive numbers "Rumours" sold.
But now, critics and fans consider "Tusk" a brilliant album.
And Lindsey orchestrated that vision.
He is a vital part of what makes Fleetwood Mac magical.
And without all 5 members together of the "classic" line-up, it isn't Fleetwood Mac, to me.
I LOVE TP and the Heartbreakers. And Mike Campbell is fantastic.
But I don't want to see him join FM or hear them do versions of classic TP&THB songs.
This is most likely FM's final big tour.
I don't hold on to any hope that Lindsey will return after this tour.
By then Christine and John will be 80 years old, or close to it.
It's truly sad that the final tour will not consist of the magical 5 fireflies.
I truly think there is no point to doing the tour without Lindsey.
If Nicks and Buckingham cannot get along and cannot put the hatred aside for this final tour, the band should break-up.
Period.
FM cannot reinvent themselves in the sunset of their career as a band.
Am I upset? Yes! I'm mortified. Do I hate any particular member of the band though? No. I think both Lindsey and Stevie equally antagonize each other, and have famously done so for decades.
But there must have been a really nasty final fight between them that caused this to happen.
And if it's gotten to the point of not being able to get through one last tour, so be it...but I'm not gonna hate on Lindsey or Stevie. Nor am I going to hold a grudge against Christine, Mick or John for going along with the decision to do this tour without Lindsey, or post nasty messages back and forth to people on this message board.
I'm simply not going to support this tour.
But I can continue to enjoy the music they made together as a group and as solo artists.
Their music is the soundtrack of my life, and I will continue to cherish that until the day I die.

WildHeart, your whole post is beautifully written and so well put, but I especially appreciated what you said about the individual members AND their music. A lot of people have said they can't listen to FM's music anymore, and that's their choice. But the music of Fleetwood Mac didn't change. For me, and like you, FM's music has been a soundtrack to my life, too, and that didn't change when Lindsey left, when Stevie left, when Christine left, when Rick left, or when Billy was fired, and it won't change now. I completely understand why you won't see the tour, and I also really respect how you were able to separate your love of the music from how hurt you feel. Really, you are such a positive example for all of us. Thanks for posting.

First thing is I know EVERYONE is going through stuff...as I said I don't put mine before anyone else's, and I freakin love The Ledge. If you read what I said I was so happy to find this place many a years ago.
I think everyone should come on here and banter, talk, what have you but as was shown here when you don't read what was written and you just start accusing or getting upset because someone else has an opinion (which is the same thing your fighting for?). I was simply stating and my thread could of been bypassed by anyone....I don't want to get on here and fight or argue it's not that I don't love and have not been obsessed with this band any less than you..it's I don't need any more negativity. I like to come on here and read what everyone thinks and their opinions on stuff but when some of these threads are just down right mean, why?
Why are we mean to each other? THAT WAS THE WHOLE MEANING BEHIND MY POST, and of course the first thing is people jump on the "well I'm entitled to come here and bitch" and okay but when people are jumping on people or saying the worse things you can say about a band you love...it's just crazy. I again would love to talk and stuff with people about all this....but this is the example of why I won't. Sorry to upset but if your aloud an opinion then so am I and this was mine. I just think it's an amazing group just wish it could go back to how it used to be.

No, no, no. I'm gonna stand by my opinion that he was canned. He was canned specifically because the band was adamant about touring behind Tango.
The album was a big hit.
The band put the gears in motion to go on the road.
Lindsey's experience in the studio was very unpleasant, and he figured that all that toxicity would be carried into the live environment.
The others persuaded him to tour. He agreed under personal duress, feeling extremely ambivalent.
After agreeing, the band booked everything.
Lindsey told the others that, despite his earlier agreement, he couldn't stomach it.
The others put his feet to the fire, telling him that they planned to tour with or without him.
Emotionally anguished, he backed away.
They immediately hired replacements.
He was canned. Had they all agreed NOT to tour at that time, he wouldn't have quit. He would have had no reason to quit. It was the idea of the tour that sickened him. He and the band probably would have taken another long break from one another, while he hoped that the drug addicts in the band got treatment.

David, at first I thought you were crazy...but after reading your post, I definitely see your logic and I have to agree: if FM had scrapped the tour, Lindsey likely would never have left, so yeah, in that respect, he was fired. I guess the big difference between now and then is, this time he didn't want to be fired, whereas last time he didn't give a blank.
If FM hadn't toured, all might have calmed down and cooler heads may have prevailed... eventually, and maybe they would have released another album sooner than 1996. It's interesting to imagine "what if" in these scenarios. However, I was thrilled FM continued with their tour back in 1987, and I loved Rick and Billy and Behind the Mask and the other songs recorded during that particular era, so I'm glad it worked out the way it did, right down to the Dance.

One major issue about the 1987 tour was Mick wanted to get out of bankruptcy. He not only wanted to tour but needed to tour. Lindsey felt he did his part with creating a successful album. We would never know but I disagree that cooler heads would have prevailed and after 1987 the Rumours 5 would have gotten back in the studio in a few years. Lindsey had a horrible experience during Tango. Stevie's klonopin addiction was just about to go full steam and Mick was still using and abusing. I don't see Lindsey entertaining the idea again. But who knows. The rest of the band did not have a successful solo career like Stevie so they definitely wanted to tour to make some money.

Interesting that the same dynamic was around during 'Tango' - Lindsey liked recording, didn't want to tour; Stevie didn't want to record, did want to tour. And the recording sessions were brutal for Lindsey, largely because Nicks and Fleetwood were still in their out of control phases.

He was "canned" in 1987 in the same sense that if the band had told him "Lindsey if you push this button you're out" and so he pushed that button. As far as we know he wasn't asking or expecting them to cancel the tour and just about everyone (from Mick to Lindsey himself to people like Richard Dashut) have all described the situation as Lindsey leaving. In interviews from even before that happened, he kept hinting that he didn't want to be with the group anymore. No matter what logistics you use to describe it, he wanted to get the heck out of there.

except NOW Lindsey wanted to tour too. double-tour in fact.

Spin it however you want but the bottom line is that no one throughout the intervening decades has contradicted statements that Lindsey himself decided to leave/quit the band in 1987, rather than tour.
This time around, Lindsey has clearly stated that the decision was not his and no one has contradicted this statement either, despite Mick's aversion to an 'ugly' word.

Good points. I would just add that the reason I said cooler heads might have eventually prevailed was because by the time FM toured in 1987, Stevie was no longer doing cocaine, so some of the issues Lindsey may have had with her during the recording of Tango may not have been a factor at that point. Of course we'll never know, but I suspect if Lindsey had toured with them, things might have been better because of that, but obviously he would have had no way of knowing that at the time. Lindsey leaving at that time, whether he was fired or he quit, was probably the right thing for him to do for himself. Perhaps the band now thinks Lindsey leaving is the right thing for them.

Stevie's klonopin addiction was just about to go full steam
I think she was still doing coke when they were recording Tango. I met her in June of '88 and she was fine. One of the security guards told me she was in group therapy and it worked. I talked to her for about 20 minutes at a party and she was totally fine, funny, talkative etc. In May of '89 (TOSOTM promo tour) I met her again. She stopped for a pic but said she was in a rush because she had to do another interview. Again, she was totally fine. She had gained weight (even more so than in '88) but she was nice and sweet, smiling & waving at everyone. In November of that same year she came back for her first and only solo concert and when I saw her she was a total mess. She didn't know where she was. She kept asking if she was in Germany and said at one point:"It's great to be in Scandinavia." She was in Holland... And it wasn't just that, her speech was slurring and it looked like she had no idea what was happening around her and didn't care. Needless to say they (the record company people) didn't want me to talk to her and showed me where the exit was. But I've always wondered what happened to her in that 6 month period. It was very sad to see her like that. Wasn't she in Betty Ford when they recorded Tango? Does anyone have a timeline on that? I can't remember.

That's amazing you got to meet her and talk to her more than once! She's become a lot more secluded since then so you never really get to hear stories like that. Did you meet any of the other band members?

It was an amazing experience and I'll never forget any of it. I've met all of them through the 80's and early 90's. Security wasn't as tight as it is now and here in the USA. This all happened when I was living in Holland. I met Lindsey in 2006 in Seattle (I had already moved here) but I don't think he had security. Not that I can remember. But yes, it was awesome to see them and talk to them. They were really nice back then.

"Welcome to the room, Sara," was written about her stay at Betty Ford, so that song was recorded for "TITN" when she was no longer doing coke.
But I am guessing some of her recording sessions were done for "Tango" before Betty Ford.
"Seven Wonders," for example. And the demos on the deluxe version of "TITN," like "Juliet" where her voice sounds very torn up..I think that was recorded before Betty Ford??

I completely understand the pain and hurt that we all feel in relation to Lindsey leaving the band. He was the band's guiding musical force since 1975 when he joined the Fleetwood Mac.
On the other hand, I understand the perspective of the other band members. If my understanding is correct (please correct me if I have this wrong), the five members agreed to the upcoming tour back in 2017. The members have said that they planned their schedules to tour from last 2018 into 2019 and then Lindsey changed his mind and decided that he no longer wanted to tour and instead wanted to start the tour in late 2019. The rest of the band spent weeks trying to convince Lindsey to honor his commitment to this upcoming tour, but he stayed firm with his decision so the band had two choices at that time:
1. To cancel the upcoming tour and rearrange their schedules to move the tour to 2019-20 or ...
2. Recruit new players to replace Lindsey for this tour
This must have been a very difficult decision to go with option #2 given everything Lindsey has meant to the band, but didn't Lindsey put the band in a tough bind? They were all planning to tour in 2018-19 and then Lindsey changed his mind. If Lindsey had simply honored his commitment to this tour, he would likely still be in the band and all would be ok.
Either way, it's painful for both sides. The classic lineup has been broken up.
That being said, it is important to note a few things.
Although Lindsey Buckingham is a mega-talent and was instrumental in creating the "classic" Fleetwood Mac sound, he wasn't an original band member. In fact, the band recorded nine studio albums before Lindsey joined the band in 1975. Truth be told, Fleetwood Mac has recorded more studio albums without Lindsey than with Lindsey.
Of course, Lindsey was the main creative force for the band's most successful period of time, but it's easy to forget that the band has recorded more music without Lindsey than with Lindsey. There is no doubt that Lindsey has been been a huge part of the band's creative and commercial success, but they also have a ton of music that doesn't include him at all.
So while the events of the past month have been very sad, I am trying to focus on the positive and look forward to what this new lineup will bring to the table. Mike Campbell is a phenomenal guitarist who should sound great especially on some of those old songs.
And Neil Finn is a world-class songwriter, lead vocalist, arranger, and collaborator who has created a lot of great music over the last four decades in various band lineups (Crowded House, Split Enz, 7 Worlds Collide, Finn Brothers, etc.). Neil's voice should blend very well with the voices of Christine and Stevie. Despite the loss of Lindsey, this new lineup has the potential to be something different, but truly special.
With all that in mind, I'm letting go of my feelings of disappointment and focusing on the magic that I hope to hear this fall and next spring.

In response to the "classic" Fleetwood Mac. This argument is
used over and over ad nauseam. I'd bet the general public

Firing one of the 5 is so much more significant than any

and what you wrote here is EXACTLY the band / their PR want you to think. and you fell for it. hook, line and sinker. even if that was what happened, they should have waited for one of the 5, and it would have been disloyal if they haven't.
yet, it's much much worse. 4 days before he was fired, (not left, note that!) Lindsey thought FM tour is starting in August 2018. and he was on board with that. guess when their tour is actually starting now? on lindsey's bday, in October? so what was their reasoning to fire him after he agreed to tour on the dates they wanted him to??
Lindsey's wife has been very clear on social media: the truth is even worse than what i told you above.
if you care to see FM, the band that will be touring is not it.
if you care about good music - there are tons of better bands more versed in blues for example, out there, to spend your money on, than these chimeric sad backstabbing money-hungry bunch of people who lured Finn and Campbell in FM with lies and deceit, if they really told them Lindsey "left" on his own will. he's been very clear he didn't.

Not really, though. Surviving the departure of Peter Green was the better part of amazing. That was much bigger relatively speaking than even the potential loss of Stevie would be. He was 90% of the early Mac. The band played on.
if you care to see FM, the band that will be touring is not it.
Really? I thought Mick, John, and Christine were going to be there. Christine was on all but three Fleetwood Mac studio releases (first album, In Chicago/Blues Jam Session At Chess, and EP), so it seems that this is every bit Fleetwood Mac as any other lineup. Maybe it’s not the Fleetwood Mac you want to see, but it’s still Fleetwood Mac.

let's be honest: general public just knows that someone played the guitar in Tom Petty's band, and barely noticed any guitar parts in his songs. ;)

And probably couldn’t name a Lindsey Buckingham song outside of GYOW.
And probably couldn’t name a Lindsey Buckingham song outside of GYOW.
couldn't name who Lindsey Buckingham is, period!
that's why the name of Fleetwood Mac, hiding behind penguins is so important for the band. FM brand is what they plan on will be selling those tickets - and you know it, the same as i do.
and that's why it's so laughable when Neil or Mike are being told this will get their names out there. no it won't. yes, people who went to the concerts went for Stevie and came out raving about Lindsey, but majority of general public has no clue who Lindsey Buckingham is, and they won't know who Mike Campbell or Neil Finn are after they do one half-baked tour under Fleetwood Mac moniker either.
the guy who arranged all biggest "classic-era" FM hits, who wrote 3 of 10 of their top 10 hits (with SN writing 2 and CM 5) is a complete unknown name to most of the general public. as is Christine McVie, woman who wrote half of their top 10 hits. that's just a reality.
i'm amazed at all the backlash the band's been getting considering how unknown Lindsey's name is and how much lies the band has been putting out there.

Yes - I saw that. So the story (based on the information provided by the band and by Lindsey) is that the band was planning a 2018-19 tour for the last year. A few months ago, Lindsey changed his mind and decided that he no longer wants to tour as Fleetwood Mac for at least another year. The band then spent a while trying to convince Lindsey to change his mind, but were unsuccessful. Then the band had to choose either to fire Lindsey or delay their tour for a year. They chose to fire him. Thus, it wasn't Lindsey's choice to leave Fleetwood Mac. He was fired. However, it was his choice to back out of his commitment to tour in 2018-19 which ultimately led to the band firing him.
Yes - I saw that. So the story (based on the information provided by the band and by Lindsey) is that the band was planning a 2018-19 tour for the last year. The band then spent a while trying to convince Lindsey to change his mind, but were unsuccessful. Then the band had to choose either to fire Lindsey or delay their tour for a year. also november 2018 or 2019 is not clear in any of the stories.

I haven't made up my mind. I just want to get the real story and be fair to both sides. You said that Lindsey agreed to tour this year and I can't find that in any articles online. If that's been reported, please let me know. I truly wish that the classic lineup were still together and feel that it's unfortunate that they couldn't work this out.

I've been reading through all the posts here and see a lot of mentions of the band lying to the public. Can someone let me know exactly which statements are lies. I'm open to that being the case but I want to be fair to both sides. For example, the band has acknowledged that they let Lindsey go from the band ... they just don't want to use the word "fired". Apart from that discrepancy over the choice of words, what lies have the band told?

This band was once known for its Little Lies. The above claim now shows that the Mac has become the Home of the Whopper.
This is the "excuse" aka lie that they put out there but Lindsey's statements caught on video prove that he planned to begin touring with FM this year.

Yes - I know that Lindsey planned to tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2018-19. Everyone agrees that Lindsey planned to tour with the band and said as such last year. The band says that everyone agreed to this tour a year ago, but then Lindsey changed his mind a few months ago and backed out of the tour. And, was going to do a concurrent tour…
Which apparently wasn’t a problem until it was.
Not to judge, but he could have just toured whatever Atlantic was going to release after the FM tour. Stevie did that (albeit at the expense of a Fleetwood Mac-branded album…). If all that was coming out was a Best Of, they should have just included live versions of GYOW, ISA, Tusk, BL, and SHN from his solo DVD as a way to promote it without directly involving the band. No dumber than GI being on FM’s Best Of.

I haven't seen anything regarding that. Never heard anything anywhere of Lindsey "backing out". The video from Musicares speaks to the plans. I would also go as far as to say the CBS interview was a disaster and the "story" they were going with wasn't completely ironed out. The hosts from the Sirius interview corroborate this too. The outtakes with the hosts post the Sirius interview are the best parts. If it was as cut and dry and "we couldn't agree on dates" the interviews with the band would be much "cleaners" We don't know the whole story yet. Folks are hiding a few things methinks

couldn't name who Lindsey Buckingham is, period!
Wow. That was maybe one step beyond where I was going…I mean, he was the recurring joke on SNL.
that's why the name of Fleetwood Mac, hiding behind penguins is so important for the band. FM brand is what they plan on will be selling those tickets - and you know it, the same as i do.
Yes, how dare Fleetwood Mac hide behind the mascot they adopted back in 1971?!?!? The nerve of these people doing exactly what they have done for 47 years, now.
and that's why it's so laughable when Neil or Mike are being told this will get their names out there.
Because Mike and Neil need to get their names out there?
Mike is a Hall of Famer and Neil received an Order of the British Empire (a step below knighthood) for his music. They don’t need this gig. That’s why it’s compelling.
no it won't. yes, people who went to the concerts went for Stevie and came out raving about Lindsey, but majority of general public has no clue who Lindsey Buckingham is, and they won't know who Mike Campbell or Neil Finn are after they do one half-baked tour under Fleetwood Mac moniker either.
They have their own fan bases. They can get work. Neil Finn sold out in Dayton as a solo artist, Buckingham McVie didn’t. Mike Campbell could join probably any band he wanted.
the guy who arranged all biggest "classic-era" FM hits, who wrote 3 of 10 of their top 10 hits (with SN writing 2 and CM 5) is a complete unknown name to most of the general public. as is Christine McVie, woman who wrote half of their top 10 hits. that's just a reality.
Christine McVie has a brand. It’s called Fleetwood Mac. She doesn’t need a name outside of it. Why would she? She had the most hits. I can’t tell you how many times people have said to me “I like the other girl in Fleetwood Mac more than Stevie Nicks.”
i'm amazed at all the backlash the band's been getting considering how unknown Lindsey's name is and how much lies the band has been putting out there.

So what? I’m a Fleetwood Mac fan. I don’t care what the general public thinks. They’ll think it’s cool that Tom Petty’s guitarist is in the band.
Not really, though. Surviving the departure of Peter Green was the better part of amazing. That was much bigger relatively speaking than even the potential loss of Stevie would be. He was 90% of the early Mac. The band played on.
If Lindsey had passed away I'd think it was "cool" that Mike

I've read this article...it talks about an "impasse" but nothing about him backing out, bailing and rescheduling until 2019. I think if you look at the video after Musicares, which was end of January....its very clear where his head was...he planned to tour, hopefully both solo and with FM.

Where is the text of this article with the November 2019 date? Edit: Never mind - found it. Note: The 2019 was put in brackets, meaning it was never actually said aloud by Stevie - it was only inferred. Lindsey himself said he was ready to tour in 2018 in the video recorded just a couple of months before news of his being fired became public. The 2019 claim is an obvious cover story - Lindsey knew the band would never wait nearly two years for their next tour.
Below is a link to the article from Rolling Stone reporting Lindsey's firing and it only cites "a disagreement over the band's upcoming tour".

I think at some point Stevie said something about Lindsey postponing to “next November” and some eager beaver Stevie fanatics looking to justify Lindsey’s firing interpreted that to mean November 2019 - Which makes no sense. Technically though, the next November is in 2018, which does make more sense.
It doesn’t justify firing Lindsey.

November 2019 is what all the media outlets are reporting. Firing him for wanting to delay things until November 2018 wouldn't make sense which is why it's much more likely that Lindsey wanted to delay things until 2019. If the story is inaccurate, you'd think Lindsey would have said something by now.

It’s being reported because that’s what the band is pushing because it makes a F-load of a lot more sense to say they fired Lindsey for wanting to delay their tour until November 2019 versus “Stevie is our meal ticket and she hates working with Lindsey and threatened to leave if we didn’t fire him and replace him with Mike so that they could mourn Tom Petty’s death and be happy together.” Why would anyone even give such a specific date of November 2019 which at the time was like 21 months away???? It makes zero sense and there’s no reasonable way that Lindsey gave that date to Mick.

Lindsey backing out of the tour forcing the band to fire him is the story that just about every media outlet has reported. If it's not true, Lindsey has every right to give his side of the story. Lindsey did speak about this the other night at the fundraiser and said nothing that contradicted the band's version of events. Lindsey said that he was fired from the band and it wasn't his choice. Whatever. I’m done trying to discuss this. Using a little critical thinking and common sense along with a dollop of knowledge of this band, it’s clear this is BS. You say every news outlet is reporting 11/2019 yet none of those articles cite where that specific date is coming from. Where’s the quote? There isn’t one because it was never said. It’s an interpretation of a comment of Stevie’s that 1)nobody ever asked for clarification or specifics about and 2) she sure as hell isnt going to say “no that’s not what I meant.” The band needs this 11/2019 crap to keep gaining momentum because it helps make their argument for firing him.

But it’s not the fault of anyone for not delving further. Lindsey hasn’t exactly offered a rebuff. Hell, he didn’t exactly say he was fired. His lack of using THAT word is as telling to me Mick’s. Calling this a “divorce” with anything involving Fleetwood Mac is underwhelming at best.
However, even those of us who follow the band intensely close, even those in contact with the inner circle, don’t really know what actually went down, and likely never will. So, it’s all just a matter of speculation, regardless of what we’ve heard. The actual breaking point will probably never be known.
Eff it. If I get to hear really old stuff from Fleetwood Mac and really new stuff from Lindsey Buckingham, I’m okay with that.

If you haven’t already, you need to check Richard Thompson. He’s what I wish Lindsey was (and hope Lindsey becomes). Brilliant acoustic guitarist, awesome non-blues lead guitarist, values art over commercialism, but even more so, and isn’t married to the recorded version and the song. He turned down The Eagles before they got Joe Walsh.
He would have been my first choice. How many artsy folk acoustic/non-blues lead guitarist/songwriter/singers who have worked with two strong women, one of whom he divorced in what became his most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album are there in this world???

"Welcome to the room, Sara," was written about her stay at Betty Ford, so that song was recorded for "TITN" when she was no longer doing coke.
But I am guessing some of her recording sessions were done for "Tango" before Betty Ford.
"Seven Wonders," for example. And the demos on the deluxe version of "TITN," like "Juliet" where her voice sounds very torn up..I think that was recorded before Betty Ford??
Thanks, I wasn't quite sure as to when she was in the Betty Ford clinic.

Listen to what he says. He clearly states that he wants to tour with Fleetwood Mac this year. He says nothing about next year or backing out of the tour. What the band says ("We hit an impasse" and "he didn't want to tour until November 2019) is complete and utter BS to make themselves look good in the eyes of the general public (and to sell tickets). He never asked to delay the tour nor did he want to. If anything Lindsey has always been the one who wanted to tour, who wanted the band to go forward and make new albums and tour behind them.

Yes hopefully most of us have now seen the video.
Lindsey wanted to do his solo tour along with the FM tour, THIS YEAR. That wasn't acceptable UNDERSTANDABLY to the band. So that was the IMPASSE. The band are stating that the other option put forward was that Lindsey does his solo tour, and the FM tour is DELAYED by a year (just because he doesn't say it in this 40 second fan video, doesn't mean it wasn't discussed as an option).
We really have no proof either way (the 40 second video is not proof of what was discussed in totality between the band). Are the band are lying about the delay, as SUGGESTED by many people here? OR is it that Lindsey just HASN'T MENTIONED that he put a delay forward as an option (because he really hasn't said very much at all about what really happened).
I'm sure this post will yet again irritate those who want to believe the poor Lindsey theory, but the rest of us are getting irritated by the fact that a story is being told repeatedly on here as the truth, when no one really knows. Why is it so hard to believe that he may well have suggested delaying the tour?!?

Yes hopefully most of us have now seen the video.
Lindsey wanted to do his solo tour along with the FM tour, THIS YEAR. That wasn't acceptable UNDERSTANDABLY to the band. So that was the IMPASSE. The band are stating that the other option put forward was that Lindsey does his solo tour, and the FM tour is DELAYED by a year (just because he doesn't say it in this 40 second fan video, doesn't mean it wasn't discussed as an option).

At the time he was fired he was not asking to delay the tour. He may have suggested it earlier but according to people who have absolutely zero reason to fabricate anything (Rick Turner and Federico Poll, from the BuckVie touring band), what the band said about him wanting to delay the tour and that being the 'cause' is just not true. Like I said, it's possible he may have asked to delay the tour earlier but Lindsey isn't an idiot, he knows he doesn't hold the cards in the band so I'm sure when he realized that wasn't gonna happen he came up with his other plan, which was the two tours, hence that video.
And the thing is, even IF Lindsey had asked to the delay the tour by a full year, it's still WRONG for them to fire him for it. Lindsey has given SO much to that band, he's put in a HUGE amount of work and he's given up his solo projects for them MORE THAN ONCE. After all these years and everything he's done, it's my opinion that if he really insisted that he needed that (which is just a hypothetical situation, because he didn't actually), they should have made it work. Stevie Nicks literally DID delay a recent FM tour by a full year because she wanted to take an extra year to promote her solo project. That whole debacle is well documented in Mick's Playboy interview and the subsequent interviews for when FM finally did go out. There's a video on YouTube, when I find it again I'll post it, of Stevie during press for her IYD doc where she talks about how Fleetwood Mac was supposed to go out on tour that year but she told them "sorry I need this year, you guys just have to wait because my project isn't done and I'm taking this year" and she says it with so much pride and the audience cheers her. That just proves how the hypocrisy the band is demonstrating with their cover story is ridiculous and the fact that some people think IF Lindsey had asked for that he would somehow deserve it is also ridiculous. Stevie can delay tours, refuse to record albums, fly off to Australia to sing with her friend instead of being in the studio with her band, do just about anything she wants and never get any "punishment" for it. And it's not any secret why either, Stevie is the cash figure for the band so she holds the cards, Mick lets her because he needs money.
To me it's crystal clear what happened, whenever this issue over tour dates started, Stevie just decided she wants no more Lindsey conflict in her life and so he was out. The end.

Not really.
I don't think at this stage they have the luxury of waiting another year to tour. With John having had cancer, and Christine's physical problems - wasn't there an issue with her hand, and wasn't she not playing much on the BuckVie tour? - I would understand that there's an urgency to get moving with a tour. Why not seize the moment now whilst they still can - there is no guarantee they will all be healthy enough in years time.
If Stevie wanted to delay the tour at this point, I wouldn't be impressed, at all. Delaying a tour 7 years ago is a very different story, compared with the situation right now.
If Lindsey suggested delaying the tour until next year, I can fully appreciate why they said no, and why they needed to move on without him.

I agree 100%. I just don’t get why some people feel that Stevie can get away with making demands of the band based on what she wants, and yet Lindsey should be fired for the same, BUT then we are able show he actually didn’t, SO WE CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE SCENARIOS. Yet they can’t and they still think the whole garbage situation is justified. It isn’t. Not at all. Mick and Stevie are so disappointing, and Chris and John too for standing by and not stopping this debaucle that has ruined the band. Yes, I think it ruined the band. Other don’t but I think it did, my opinion.

You keep saying you want to be proven wrong. Several people have proven you wrong but you keep coming back with the same story that Lindsey backed out of the tour. He did NOT
I've watched the video before and this doesn't contradict what the band is saying as it was recorded in January. The band has said that Lindsey had agreed to the Fleetwood Mac tour and was planning to participate up until a few weeks prior to his firing in April. Thus, it's expected that he would say in January of this year that he was planning to tour with the band. The band said that a few weeks prior to the April announcement (so probably in March), Lindsey told them that he wanted to put off the Fleetwood Mac tour until late 2019. The band tried to convince him to honor his commitment but he wouldn't back down so they let him go. Lindsey has every right to set the record straight if this account isn't correct.

So when exactly did they talk to and hire Mike Campbell and Neil Finn? Keep in mind Billy first put the tweet out on April 4th.
Can someone quote for me who specifically said that Lindsey told the band he wouldn’t tour with FM until late 2019? I’d like a quote and not some line from an article. The actual quote.

Rolling Stone senior reporter Andy Greene has reported this based on his conversations with the band which I assume means Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks. Again, Lindsey has every right to correct the story if the media reporting is inaccurate.
I believe Mick called Neil and Mike in March to offer them the jobs after the band couldn't convince Lindsey to honor his commitment to tour this year.

I completely respect your opinion on this question. It is a very tough call on whether the band should have delayed the tour for a year or brought in Neil/Mike. I can see both sides of the debate. On the one hand, Lindsey has been the main creative force for the band since 1975. On the other hand, the band members are getting older and there's no guarantee that all will be healthy a year from now. And it sounds like plans for a 2018-19 tour were already in place and rescheduling a big tour is very difficult.

That's a very interesting point about Mike getting called on Feb 1. Then it comes down to the video posted above which I've watch many times. Where did he say that he was going to tour with Fleetwood Mac. I hear him saying that he is putting out new material and a "best of" and mumbled some stuff about touring. Isn't it possible that he was discussing the Fleetwood Mac tour with the band in January and was pushing the band to move the tour back a year? And perhaps at the time of the video, things weren't finalized in his mind? And then Mick finally gave up and called Mike Campbell on February 1? Or perhaps he was calling Mike to "feel him out" to see if he would be agreeable to join if Lindsey wouldn't honor his commitment to tour in 2018.

At the end, around the .25 mark he starts saying how he's gonna put out a best of album and "do a bunch of gigs in between the Fleetwood Mac tour".

Based on her statements, Christine apparently was not in the loop when all this first went down. Also, the 2019 date was never a direct quote - it was in brackets in the Rolling Stone article which means it was just an inference and not part of a spoken quote (see link below). Stevie just mentioned a delay until November - period. Someone, somewhere decided to make Lindsey's request for a delay seem completely unreasonable by extending it another full year beyond until the following November. When has Lindsey ever taken such an extended tour??? This extension strikes me as a complete fabrication.

The 2019 reference was also noted by Rolling Stone magazine senior writer Andy Greene based on his conversations with the band. Isn't possible that a bit of everyone's story is correct? For example, isn't it possible that Lindsey was talking with the band about delaying the Mac tour until November 2019 as he's hoping to release a new album and "best of" album and tour his own stuff in 2018? Mick/Stevie may have gotten the impression that Lindsey wouldn't tour until 2019 and they all had already committed to this big tour. Lindsey may have thought that his discussions with the band were still on-going. Then perhaps this conversation reached a boiling point at MusiCares in January and Mick called Mike Campbell on Feb 1 to see if he would be interested. Mike eventually agreed and then the band let Lindsey go in February or March. Assuming that's close to what actually happened, I can see both sides of the debate.

Finding the truth is more important than validating what one already believes. I can hear Lindsey say that he plans to "do a bunch of gigs" but much of the rest is very difficult to make out. He didn't mention any dates or specifics about the Mac tour. Based on the video, it's very possible that he was trying to convince the band to move the tour back a year so he could do more solo touring etc. and Mick gave up on Feb 1 and called Mike Campbell.

If you listen to Andy Greene's comments (from Rolling Stone), Andy says that the band contends that Lindsey wanted to delay the tour until 2019. That's what the band is saying. Whether that's true or not is a different issue. My guess is that it's somewhere in the middle. Lindsey was probably negotiating dates with the band and he was hoping to move the tour back until 2019 so he could do more solo shows in 2018 and the band became more and more frustrated and gave up on Feb 1 and called Mike Campbell.

Sorry but the timeline doesn’t make sense. Even IF he said 2019 that could be January 2019 (and nobody has a quote saying that he did say this). The tour is starting in October which would mean they fired Lindsey for asking for a three month delay.
Is it at all possible that they hired Mike Campbell before Lindsey was fired under 1) a way to make Stevie “happy” and 2) to have a second guitarist to play the pre-75 stuff and not force Lindsey to have to sing and play songs he wasn’t interested in doing. And then Lindsey was like what fresh hell is this and was told after pitching a fit about it that he was fired because....?? Could that be the whole truth that’s even more appalling than what’s out there according to Kristen Buckingham (or however she worded it)?

Andy Greene of Rolling Stone said:"They (FM) said that Lindsey wanted to wait a solid year" so Jan. 2019 would be correct but like you said, it doesn't make any sense.
I don't think he knew about Mike Campbell because on Jan. 27th he says he goes on the road with FM and doesn't mention Campbell at all. My guess is that he would have mentioned him if that were the case. Don't forget that Stevie said to Mick:"It's him or me" so I'll go with option no. 1.

They are totally underestimating the power of the internet and social media because now we can fact check.

So let's go with that story ... that Lindsey told the band he wanted to delay things until January 2019. That would have meant that all the Oct/Nov/Dec 2018 shows (about 30 shows) would have had to be rescheduled to 2019 which would have been a logistical nightmare. I can see the band's view that they didn't want to reschedule thirty concerts into next year. And I can see Lindsey's view that the band should reschedule all those dates given all he's done for the band.

Discussions seem to be going around and around and around...
Just to clear up...
Stevie: 'We were going to go into rehearsals in June. He wanted to put it off until next November'
Clearly Stevie was referring to November 2018 (come on, it doesn't take a lot of brain power to appreciate that). That would have fit in with the solid year timeline of a tour start in January 2019.
Stevie said 'That's a long time'.
The interviewer clearly thought she meant November 2019. Now that would have been a long time.
Lindsey suggested he do some solo dates alongside the Fleetwood Mac shows instead of delaying. They said no.
In a twist of irony, their scheduled June rehearsals now don't take place until August anyway.
My guess is Lindsey wanted to time his solo work in line with the Mac tour. If it had come out in April he probably could have done a short tour. However, for whatever reason there was a delay on the release of his scheduled solo record.
Rescheduling the slated shows- would that really have been that difficult? Maybe... I don't really know.

Very clear, concise summary. I highly doubt Lindsey would have been so intransigent regarding dates that far out, especially given his video comments in late January.
The narrative being put forward now really comes off as nothing more than an excuse by the faction in the band already intent on ditching him and replacing him with a Heartbreaker (a dream come true for that FM member). They must have known Mike Campbell's birthday was approaching on Feb. 1st, otherwise they would probably have called him even sooner.

...and just to add;
Lindsey hasn't issued any rebuttal as he has no real need to. What has been said and done has been said and done. I don't think has has any interest in a public slanging match. He's clearly disappointed but no matter what he says it isn't going to turn the clocks back and alter the course of history. He and his family know the truth and I'm sure that's all that matters to him right now. I'd say he's being dignified.

Assuming you all are correct that it was November 2018 and not November 2019, you all think the band should have rescheduled thirty concerts to accommodate Lindsey's desire to reschedule the tour?

Yeah, they should of taken the extra time to actually DO SOMETHING CREATIVE! work on songs they have never done before, a new acoustic set with brown eyes, gypsy, and goodbye angel in the middle of the set.
Imagine that!

Ok, I can respect your view. I also can respect that the band may not have wanted to rescheduled thirty concerts so decided to move forward without Lindsey. Rescheduling thirty concerts is very complicated and would have affected the lives of a lot of people including those who were planning to work on these concerts.

What a complete pile of utter nonsense. Of all the arguments to put forward, the most ridiculous is citing those who were planning on working at the concerts. Nobody that would have been working even knew. Besides workers at venues won't just be idle... Planned dates would have just been taken by other artists. Give me strength... Or a gin & tonic

You clearly have never worked on a major tour. Hundreds and hundreds of people are hired far in advance including musicians, roadies, photographers, promoters, agents, videographers, designers, sound engineers, etc. It's basically like forming a new company. Canceling or rescheduling a tour is like laying off hundreds of people.

Well summarised. Now correct me if I'm wrong, I think I read this but it may have been hearsay.....If the actual firing reason was simply a 'scheduling issue' and not a 'him or me' scenario....am I right in hearing that LB after the initial disagreement, went back to them and said 'ok I won't solo tour or delay FM, I'm in'...but it was too late and Mike and Neil had already been hired behind his back?

You’ve provided exactly zero evidence of the November 2019 date being said by Lindsey or anyone else in Fleetwood Mac yet you continue to throw it out there as fact because it was written in an article. It was never quoted as being said by anyone. It was an assumption that makes zero sense yet you keep sticking to it as a fact.

Actually, the opposite is true. I've provided evidence in citing that dozens of media outlets have reported that it was November 2019. You and others are the ones who are convinced that all of these outlets are wrong and that it was, in fact, Nov 2018 yet you haven't provided any information to support this assertion. Although none of us know for sure which it was, any objective observer (who's not blinded by anger against Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood) would acknowledge that the preponderance of the evidence, at this point, supports November 2019 as that's what the band and media outlets say and Lindsey hasn't correct the information.

Those media outlets all just got the information from that original piece of press with Rolling Stone.
And Lindsey probably will say something eventually, when he does some actual interviews. But he basically never issues press statements and I doubt that at a political fundraiser he's going to go into the specific details about what the band did or did not twist the truth on.

So you agree that at this point we don't know for sure. The media reports one thing, but you say they all have it wrong. Perhaps they do have it wrong but we won't know until Lindsey speaks. Perhaps they have it right and Lindsey did bring on this break-up. We don't know at this point. Let's agree that we don't know what transpired and cease all this one-sided venom aimed at the band.

To be fair, I think after 'the talk' in 2011 and the love fest tour of 2013, S and L were generally on good terms. Fast forward to 2016 and I personally think jealousy of BuckVie and her typical crazy grief ridden behaviour from TP's passing meant Stevie masterminded Lindsey's dismissal

And the OWTS tour. I think they needed a break from each other after the 2013 tour (in general I think they regularly need breaks from each other lol) but when Christine came back they got back on the road pretty quickly and so that combined with the tensions over him wanting an album/her not wanting an album made that tour a rougher one for them and instead of just getting over it, the Buckingham McVie album just poured fuel on the fire. And then add her grief over Tom. And then add him trying to 'mix' his solo tour in with Fleetwood Mac which probably infuriated her since likes to tell herself that she keeps her solo career separate and never lets it affect FM and ta da.

So the original plan was to tour summer/autumn this year, and the band have said that Lindsey suggested delaying the tour by 1 year - summer/autumn 2019.
Maybe he did actually suggest it, in frustration at not being allowed to do a solo tour with the FM tour. Maybe Rick Turner doesn't know the full story, and every word that came out of Lindsey's mouth during heated band discussions. Is it really outside the realms of all possibility that he said it?!?
Or maybe the band are completely lying about the suggested delay, and for some reason Lindsey isn't speaking out to clear up the confusion.
Why we can't allow alternative viewpoints on here without bullying and harassing people is beyond me.

I love Sisters but I hated that she castrated the guitar parts out of it. Maybe if they do it now she’d let whoever current guitarist is to actually play some guitar and it was just Lindsey who was not allowed to do any guitar soloing or constructive jazzed up variations. I think I have posted once since the Lindsey Gate fiasco has gone down. Truthfully, the same 3 Stevie sycophants reposting to make their view seem omni-present is boring to me. As is the Lindsey will be homeless without FM line of thinking.
My mind - there has been no live arrangement since the Tusk tour (less Lindsey 1987-1995) that has not been Lindsey created. He is the principal arranger of Fleetwood Mac. Rhiannon as constructed is Lindsey driven. So don't blame Stevie for that.
As for the rest, lets stop pretending. The only person with any creativity in FM since 1992 is Lindsey. I think that is hard to deny. This tour for whatever reason is not selling like 2013 or 2015. The LA, Boston numbers are awful. Lindsey's absence contributes to these bad early returns. Hard to deny as well.
I really like Neil Finn. Creative, talented songwriter. Better songwriter than Lindsey in my opinion. Not nearly the arranger, as too much sounds the same and all the guitar parts sound like they were played by the same guy. Campbell has written some great songs and with artists well beyond TP. Problem is too much of his playing sounds like Byrds circa 1968. He doesn't expand enough for my taste. Lindsey's diversity of sounds and layering of guitars, with synced synths and looped percussion is so much more entertaining, as his use of vocal pads.
Lots of nuance here, but lets not see this all as as quite as black and white. This version of FM will be very capable. Not my my taste, but not bad.

What a breath of fresh air. Please continue to post your balanced point of view is so needed here.
I agree with you, Neil is a better songwriter and lyricist, but he has nothing close to LBs guitar ability. Although he is excellent on the keyboard too.

Agree about Neil Finn's songwriting. To me, there are few ever who can match Neil's ability to craft melody to lyric. And he's still in his prime as evidenced by his outstanding Out of Silence album from last year. I also agree that his guitar playing is good doesn't watch Lindsey's - but Neil is no slouch on the guitar. Check out the performance below which is pretty darn good.

Neil plays keyboards too? Wow, that's very interesting. Thanks for sharing, Angel75. Do you know if he ever plays them live, or does he stick primarily to guitar?

Neil used to play mostly guitar and just a little bit of piano. In recent years, he has shifted to playing about equal parts piano and guitar. Interestingly, he has historically mainly written songs on piano and then transferred some of them to guitar if he thinks that works better for the song in question. Recently, he has been keeping most of his song on piano. For his last album, 2017's Out of Silence (which is an awesome album), Neil was almost exclusively on piano.

Fyi - Neil recorded his last solo album "Out of Silence" in front of cameras and broadcast it live on Facebook and YouTube. It's still on his Youtube channel for those who want to watch it. It is interesting to see how Neil works with his "band" to arrange and perform his songs. Such a great album.
