For approximately 5 minutes after hearing the news of Lindsey's departure, I was in shock. This is certainly a curve ball from left field that I NEVER expected. Shock has turned to anger. Quite frankly, this is an outrage! I waited YEARS for the return of Christine McVie to have the Rumours lineup together again, and now THIS! I'm sorry, but these folks are spoiled brats! I've grown so tired and weary of this saga that I don't care to spend another dime on these pampered, indulgent divas! GROW UP! I would LOVE to boycott this tour! The thought of seeing the Mac live without Buckingham's energy (think Burnett/Vito) is abominable.

I've had enough. Rant over!

A miracle happens and Christine returns and now this? Its frustrating that a band member who tours with the band but refuses to record with them is not fired. This band member keeps extending their solo tour thus delaying Fleetwood Mac but they don't get fired. The creative genius of Fleetwood Mac who put the band ahead of his solo career time after time gets fired.
Its sad
Its pathetic

I agree. It's a real shame this is how the Fleetwood Mac story may end.

You are right on! It's ridiculous. I'm so tired of Lindsey and Stevie playing games. Stevie was wrong not to record new music with The Mac. A small part of me now feels that Lindsey was going to teach them a lesson by holding out on a tour. Then, the remaining 4 turn around and move forward without him! I'm disgusted! This is what happens when spoiled "rock stars" are stuck in Peter Pan syndrome and refuse to grow up.

It’s been revealed that Buckingham will be replaced on tour by the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Crowded House’s Neil Finn. “Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents,” Mick Fleetwood said. “We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound.”

Finn said in a statement: “Two weeks ago I received a wonderful invitation to be a part of a truly great band. A few days later I was standing in a room playing music with Fleetwood Mac. It felt fresh and exciting, so many great songs, a spectacular rhythm section and two of the greatest voices ever. Best of all, we sounded good together. It was a natural fit. I can’t wait to play.”

The band’s Facebook page has since changed its profile image from one of the band to an illustrated picture.

Buckingham originally joined the band in 1975 and played with them until 1987. In this incarnation, featuring Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks, they released 1977’s Rumors. The album sold over 40mcopies. Buckingham rejoined the band in 1997 and last year released a duet album with McVie.

His most recent performance with the band was during a concert in January honoring Fleetwood Mac as MusiCares Person of the Year. The Fleetwood Mac tour is to start in June. Last week, the band re-entered the US charts with Dreams after it was used in a meme.

Fleetwood Mac have announced that they will be parting ways with singer-guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.

A joint statement from the band released on Monday (April 9) confirmed that Buckingham will be replaced on their upcoming tour by Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House.

"We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family," the band told Rolling Stone.

"With Mike and Neil, we'll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we'll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs. Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honouring that spirit on this upcoming tour."

Co-founder Mick Fleetwood also released his own statement, clearly in an attempt to calm fans' complaints about the departure of one of Fleetwood Mac's three main songwriters.

"Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents," Mick said today.

"We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realise that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it's got the unmistakable Mac sound."

This disappointing turn-of-events comes several months after Christine McVie announced on The One Show last year that the classic line-up of Fleetwood Mac would be touring in 2018.

At that time, McVie was promoting a collaborative album with Buckingham, which the duo toured on their own. McVie only reunited with Fleetwood Mac in 2014, after a decade away.

Buckingham and Stevie Nicks first became members of Fleetwood Mac together in 1974, and would usher in the band's most successful period as the classic Rumours-era line-up.

There has yet to be any comment from Buckingham on news of his sacking.

I am so damn furious at this band that I haven't slept since last night (other side of the world) despite having taken enough sedatives to take down an elephant.

Mick's statement about how the new lineup will still have the "unmistakeable Mac sound" is a further insult to our intelligence. Does he think he could bamboozle us into believing the Heartbreakers or Crowded House actually sound like Lindsey Buckingham?

As a Fleetwood Mac fan of 40 years, I am just HEARTSICK. No one has died here, so I cannot compare this to the death of John Lennon, but it certainly comes close.

I have a deep sense in the pit of my stomach that this is the END. I think whatever brought about this conflict was the final straw for all involved. I DO NOT see the Rumours lineup EVER recording or touring together again. It's a sorrowful day. This band was given an opportunity to record a final album and give its fans a proper Farewell Tour, but they chose to take the low road.

As Don McLean proclaimed, "the day the music died" is upon us. I'm just heartsick.

I won't be seeing them perform live, though if new Christine material gets recorded, I'd buy it. That's really all I care about from the current lineup.

As for Lindsey, I'll continue to buy his solo material BECAUSE IT'S CONSISTENTLY VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT.

So sad: Lindsey and Christine have this incredible partnership and now, so hard on the heels of that, he is ousted and rightfully claims he will have no connection to further Mac activity.

5 Lingering Questions From Fleetwood Mac's Split With Lindsey Buckingham
4/9/2018 by Melinda Newman

When Fleetwood Mac announced Monday (April 9) that the legendary band had replaced guitarist Lindsey Buckingham with Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell for its upcoming tour, its statement brought up more questions than it answered.

Here are a few of those lingering questions:

What went south?
Prophetically, the last song that Fleetwood Mac performed together was “Go Your Own Way,” when the band was honored Jan. 26 as MusiCares Person of the Year. But at that gala, held at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, all seemed well with the band. While receiving their award, Buckingham acknowledged the dysfunction that fueled so many of the band’s hits, but added, “Not very far below the level of dysfunction, what we are feeling more than ever in our career is love.” After artists, including Lorde, Keith Urban, Juanes and Little Big Town, saluted the band, the quintet took the stage to close the evening with energetic performances of “The Chain,” “Little Lies,” "Tusk,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Go Your Own Way.”

Why Mike Campbell and Neil Finn?
Longtime friends Campbell and Stevie Nicks go back nearly 40 years. Campbell played on Nicks and Tom Petty’s 1981 duet “Stop Dragging My Heart Around.” More recently, “I Don’t Care,” a song the guitarist co-wrote with Nicks, appeared on Nicks’ 2014 album, 24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault, a collection of newly recorded versions of demos that Nicks initially recorded between 1969 and 1987. Less obvious is the Finn connection, but drummer Mick Fleetwood and Finn have a history, if not one as deep as that of Campbell and Nicks. Fleetwood told an Australian newspaper in 2016 that he was playing on Finn’s next album, referring to Finn as “a new music friend…I invited myself to play in Auckland so I am going down there first to work on his next album, as a friend.”

When did this all go down?
Regardless of the circumstances -- whether Buckingham jumped or was shoved -- his departure seems to be a very recent development. On April 4, guitarist Billy Burnette, who replaced Buckingham when he left Fleetwood Mac in 1987, tweeted, “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out, but I’m not in.” Burnette quickly deleted that tweet, but it’s possible that he already knew that Finn would be coming in, as Finn was already woodshedding with the band. After the news broke on Monday, Finn said in a statement that he was invited to join Fleetwood Mac two weeks ago -- that would be March 26 -- and that “a few days later, I was standing in a room playing music with Fleetwood Mac.”

What does this mean for the setlist?
When Christine McVie stopped touring with the band -- from 1998 to 2014 -- Fleetwood Mac largely dropped her songs from its live repertoire, with the exception of “Don’t Stop,” on which Nicks sang McVie’s part. While it’s easy to imagine Finn singing Buckingham’s co-lead on “Don’t Stop,” it’s much harder to envision his taking over Buckingham-fronted “Go Your Own Way,” “Big Love” or “Tusk.” According to the statement, Fleetwood Mac, who is co-managed by Suretone’s Carl Stubner and CSM’s Sheryl Louis and booked by CAA, will announce tour dates soon, presumably for fall of this year. Fleetwood told Rolling Stone last August that he and Nicks had discussed delving deeper into the band’s catalog beyond the hits.

What’s next?
The question remains whether Buckingham is out for good -- and what that even means for a band that has not put out an album with all five primary members (Nicks, Buckingham, McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood) since 1987’s Tango in the Night -- or if this is a temporary split. Given that he, Nicks and Christine McVie have left and come back before, the final chapter is far from written. With Fleetwood Mac, the words from another band known for its dysfunction seem applicable: “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”

And the immediate assumption that this is all because of Stevie is getting a little old. Why crucify the band? FM is not a bunch of friends/musicians anymore. It's a company, a business. I bet laywers and managers negotiated for weeks (thats why we are waiting for tourdames for ages) ... Lindsey wants to record and tour with new material, while the rest (blame them, they are all 70+) want to tour while they can with material they can play with their eyes shut ... grab the money and have fun.

The media used the word ' fired', I guess they just separated and both went their own way. Agreed to disagree ... LB doesn't own the band or the rights to exploit the band. So the rest of them just continued. I guess they fell as sad as he does.

Think of the song ' Come' : 🎶 ... and the band ... played ... on ... 🎶

I was hoping it wasn't true, but it became more and more obvious with each day.. Can't believe I'm saying it, but f*ck them. This is wrong and they should be ashamed of themselves. They just lost the only true artist left in the band. May he continue his incredible late-career solo prolificness. They have turned themselves into what 99% of dinosaur rock bands are at this point in their careers- an oldies cash-grab act that has abandoned integrity. I realize they have been on that path for quite sometime, hell, mostly already there.. but with Linds on board, there was at least a constant push for new material, to be artists.. Now they've gone full shill on us. And after Chris returned, against all odds, for what should have been the graceful closing out of their legacy, with the classic lineup intact. You couldn't pay me to go see them now. And I've paid thru the nose to see them, 5 times. Hopefully this means I'll get to see my 4th Lindsey Buckingham solo show soon, though!I will be at every performance I can make, monetarily/schedule permitting.
I will always love the 5 fireflies, what they did at their peak, who they used to be.. Lindsey’s just the only one who cares about creating anymore. He’s the backbone & the brain behind this era, and this is coming from someone who loves all three songwriters equally. He brought out the best in all of them, musically speaking of course:lol:. His arrangements & playing are the template of this lineup, the Fleetwood Mac sound. They’re a cover band without him.
I may or may not have had some Team Lindsey : Never Break The Chain shirts custom printed for my Mac fan friends and I

I've read somewhere speculation that they band signed contracts a couple years ago for this tour so presumably they would not have been able to just agree to go their separate ways. All reports are that he did not quit and CNN says a rep for Lindsey referred all questions to the band - which obviously gives the impression that Lindsey wants it known that it was not his decision to leave without saying himself yet. His contract would have to be terminated which also may explain why the statement by the band only speaks to this upcoming tour.

Not sure it’s an outrage, but it certainly is shocking and hugely
disappointing.
I have mixed feelings.
I was looking for a legitimate farewell tour; but I’m also not a big fan of the tired rote greatest hits sets.
The news feels like a weird deja vu from 1987.
But Mike Campbell will bring a lot of energy and personality to the sound - in a way that Rick Vito and Billy Burnette weren’t capable of.
I honestly can’t think of a better replacement for Lindsey Buckingham ‘s sound - especially in the context of big arenas.
Mike is an amazing player and a superb songwriter. He will bring a lot to the tour in ways that people aren’t expecting. Neil Finn is a great singer; but I’m not as enthusiastic about him because it feels like it was a choice made out of convenience. I guess they needed someone with pipes given how shaky Chris’s vocals have become.
In any event, I guess it just feels like a knee jerk band aid fix rather then a considered
thoughtful crafted project.

I wish it was presented as a different band / project instead of a salvage Fleetwood Mac tour.

At the same time, I’m not sure this whole story came out of a scenario that was dramatic in the way that the press is presenting it.
It could have been that they just couldn’t agree on a schedule.
People in their 70’s should be able to make decisions at will.
They don’t work for us and they don’t owe us anything.
I would have hated to know that a tour was put together and Lindsey didn’t want to be there.

I’m sorry that the end result of all of this is that we have a nostalgia act cobbling together what they can to prop up a tour - - instead of a group of five artists who really wanted to commit to making this a final goodbye to the 5 decades worth of fans.
I’m sorry for all of us. But I also respect people for asking for what they want and need rather than going through the motions because they think they’re supposed to.
Much respect to the whole band for giving everyone the freedom to come and go as they please.

It’s shocking and it’s unexpected and it hurts.
But I think if people can put aside the drama machine and make an effort to not write the narrative for this band that probably never happened; we might find that we can allow ourselves to enjoy Mike Campbell’s jaw-dropping guitar playing.
He’s no Buckingham, but he is quite possibly the most gifted player I’ve ever heard in an arena setting.

When I pointed out that firing Lindsey was quite possibly the result of a Stevie "him or me" ultimatum, he responded: "I think it’s pretty clear now that FM isn’t a going concern when Stevie is not involved." Again, this, however true and obvious this was, it upset me. I always knew Stevie wielded her celebrity power like a weapon against him and the band, but I never thought the band--ie: Fleetwood and the McVies--would let him slip through their fingers a second time. He is simply too valuable. Period. They've made a colossal mistake. An embarrassing mistake. All for the sake of money. I can't get over this. Yet. But I will be the first person to gladly eat my words if the band actually sounds good in this new configuration. I am, putting it mildly, doubtful.

Although I'm bummed LB is gone (for now, anyway, who knows what'll happen 5 years from now), I have to admit I am ok with LB being replaced in a way I never would be if SN were replaced, and here's why- Stevie is a singer only. Lindsey, being a guitarist, HAS to be replaced. The band NEEDS a guitarist. Bringing Mike Campbell in to play guitar is pretty damn genius- he's incredible, well-liked and has a following. And bringing Neil Finn is also clever- while we're all speculating he'll be singing LB songs live, the band will probably surprise us by having him sing Danny Kirwin or Bob Welch songs instead.

The Bob Welch era has been white washed. They don't talk about it, would not allow him in the Rock N Roll hall of fame, and even removed any mention of him on Behind the Music. They even cut him off the album Heroes are Hard to Find.
There is no way any Bob Welch will be played. Even Lindsey songs wont be played (I don't consider The Chain a Lindsey song). They don't want to sound like a cover band. I am shocked at what people think they are going to play. Someone mentioned on another thread that I'm So Afraid will be played LOL

You know I can't help but look at your avatar, the pic of LB and CM in their BuckVie photo shoot, and the clips of them making that album, and all the lovey dovey going on throughout... there were Mick and Lindsey hugging and Lindsey saying to Mick "I love you, man" and the back slapping, and all the hugging and kissing with Chris........ Not to even mention the whole BuckVie tour.

And now this.

Who is speculating this? I think most people probably feel as if they'll avoid Lindsey songs as much as possible. Said it before but the only Lindsey song I can see them playing would be Go Your Own Way (as well as World Turning and The Chain). They'll do what they did in 87/88 and play several PG songs. I can also imagine them writing a couple of new tunes and playing those as well. I can definitely envisage Neil writing and performing a duet with Christine.

Oh Well- highly likely bordering on a dead cert
Black Magic Woman- highly likely
Green Manalishi- very good shout
Sentimental Lady- possibility

I agree. Neil Finn and Michael Campbell are both highly established already, so I'm sure the focus will be on their individual strengths, not duplicating Lindsey (which, of course, is impossible).

I can definitely envisage Neil writing and performing a duet with Christine.

Are we sure Lindsey is out of Fleetwood Mac or is he just not touring this time around? Per their official statement,

"Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour. The band wishes Lindsey all the best."

Seems to read as if he might still be a member of FM.

I think anything is possible at this point. It's a good thing no one's made
Fleetwood Mac - The Movie yet. :o

you know i was thinking that - THIS what they did now in their 70s is ensuring that FM the movie will be made. because it's crazier than all their drugged out crazy. they don't have the excuse of being young or high now. just greedy but i'm sure the movie will turn it in a tragic exploding relationship between the exes.

like Azoff said on his SiriusXM station about the non-identified band -
it's a special kind of art to watch some of the bands and what people in them do just to torture each other unnecessarily.

or something to that effect. rings true, doesn't it?

But I also respect people for asking for what they want and need rather than going through the motions because they think they’re supposed to.
Much respect to the whole band for giving everyone the freedom to come and go as they please.

It’s shocking and it’s unexpected and it hurts.
But I think if people can put aside the drama machine and make an effort to not write the narrative for this band that probably never happened; we might find that we can allow ourselves to enjoy Mike Campbell’s jaw-dropping guitar playing.
He’s no Buckingham, but he is quite possibly the most gifted player I’ve ever heard in an arena setting.

if they were just not touring with him why would you say "we wish him all the best". You might say, "we wish him all the best and look forward to seeing where we go after the tour" or "we look forward to what the future brings" or something

I mean they aren't going to go out and bond with two new guys and then kick them out after the tour.....

I was thinking of the sh&t ton of money Lindsey loses out on by not doing this tour. And think of how much more some other people will get, because they are surely not going to cut Mike or the Finn guy in on a percentage, they'll get a salary of some kind.

So Stevie gets to do whatever solo music she wants (guarantee they'll do Stop Draggin with Mike there... and she'll get to tell a long story about Tom) and she'll get more money. She can't take it with her......

I can't help wishing the McVies weren't so damned British and would have more bollocks

that's not his personal house. that's a house he and his wife bought specifically for her to renovate and decorate and then sell, i.e. as part of her business. they've never lived in it and are still living where they've been living for years.

that said, she spent 4 years tearing down and rebuilding and then decorating it. that's a mega load of carrying costs for 4 years..... and they recoup nothing till they sell it.

Fleetwood Mac has had more changes in personnel than any band in history. I understand that. What gets me is the timing of this. Fleetwood Mac's time as a band is limited. There are probably a handful of years that the band can keep going.

Lindsey mentioned in one of the documentaries on Fleetwood Mac about there being a thread between the start with Peter Green, to Bob Welch to he and Stevie. Post 1987 and the additions of Billy, Rick and later Bekka and Dave, Fleetwood Mac had potential to go to new territories like the band's previous incarnations. Regardless of how you feel about Behind The Mask or Time, Fleetwood Mac still had so much to give musically. Adding two new members to the band at this stage is so insulting to me. It feels soulless and wrong. I would have zero problem if Billy, Rick, Bekka, Dave or another previous member were in on the point of this band's life.

I get sad when I think how Bob Welch never got a proper farewell with the band. Without him, Fleetwood Mac never enjoys the success they had after Bob stepped away. I feel the same way about this situation. In the grand scheme of things, my opinion and feelings on this matter mean absolutely nothing. I just feel so sad and so disappointed. This band will always be a huge part of my life. I guess that's why this hurts so much.

At This Point In Their Careers
That's the key point I think. They'd finally
got past the fake band from BTM and Time.
Even to the point they were being respected
again. No small feat for a mostly pop band.

Let's be honest, they picked those two in hoping that the both of them could carry their fan base with them to sell tickets. Thinking they would fill the void left by people upset with Lindsey being FIRED and not buying tickets. It's ALL about the CASH with those two and nothing more. That's one of the reasons Billy B wasn't asked. It's sickening, and NO art is involved. I don't think Mickhuster had any idea of how angry fans would be this time.

Guessing by my screen name, ya might guess just how disappointing the latest news is...

So - excuse me for my ramblings.

In the dream of dreams - the FM of Rumours and Tusk will never be again. Carly Simon once said of insane success, "it's a one time experience, in a bubble, never to repeat, it's that special" - or something like that.

This whole thing feels driven by a deep mourning - of Tom Petty - by Stevie.
She's done this before, i.e. her marriage to her best friend's husband. She's admitted to talking him into marriage and then realizing what a huge mistake it was. Now, we have Tom P's friend and music collaborator, Mike Campbell. Both of them grieving. Somehow, I think, she said the right word at the wrong time to him. Then we have the fact that TP'S death announced on Lindsey's birthday!?!!
I sense a bit of realing and trying to "connect the dots" moments in SN reasoning, setting what we heard yesterday into motion.

It's just crappy - I'm being nice there - what they did to Lindsey. Stevie, in outright gunning for him for whatever her reasons, Mick in his leech-like tendencies towards money, John on his complacenties, and... Christine.... I'm more disappointed in her. I gotta feelin, she ain't going to enjoy this tour. Her conscience might get to her.

On the plus side :) I get to see Lindsey center stage, minimum 4th row! I get to hear only the songs I REALLY like! And I won't go broke! PLUS, the new songs!
Total heaven ....

Bring it on Lindsey! I'm soooo ready!

So sorry the 'five fireflies' couldn't survive and do it right. I really am.

Another thing that irks me is the pressure from concert promoters for a summer tour. They could have given Lindsey May and June and part of July to solo tour. The band could have rehearsed and been ready for a Labor Day tour opener. All this drama and making the last Mac tour a mix of Crowded House and Heartbreakers? You sacrifice your brand so a tour can start 2 months earlier? It amazes me. This is how you end your legacy? No one cared Stevie was off touring Australia and kept extending her tour. Then Stevie wanted 3 months off (deservingly so). But somehow Lindsey is the bad guy here.
This is NOT like 1987. No comparison. Lindsey left then because of the substance abuser's dysfunction. Lindsey was fired because of wanting to make and play new music.

While this is a good point, I doubt it was that simple. This was a really drastic move to take and I can’t imagine them following through with it after all this time unless sh*t really, really hit the fan at an irreparable level. I assume the schedule issue was just the initial spark that started this and that it just kept spreading and getting bigger until the whole damn place was burnt to the ground.
While things are always pretty tense with them, it’s definitely seemed especially bad over the past few years. I mean she endlessly delayed things and then when they finally went out she made it very clear that she wasn’t into the back to back tour situation and didn’t really want to be there. Throw in the fact that it’s now been almost a solid decade of the guys trying to push a new album and being shut down by Stevie every single time. Which then meant Lindsey had to release all his songs on Buckingham McVie and some solo records. Which affects his livelihood considering the vast difference Stevie’s presence causes when it comes to pay scales, visibility, and touring revenue. Meanwhile she’s probably equally bitter and resentful of them for going out and making a duo record without her. Not to mention in the middle of the fm tour (that she didn’t want to do in the first place), she releases her own solo record, attracts a ton of attention for being part of the AHS storyline, and somehow winds up - alone - on the cover of Rolling Stone, which evidently pissed the others off so much that they refused to have any part of it and wouldn’t even acknowledge the interviewer.
With all of that resentment and pettiness towards each other already lingering, I bet the tourdates were just the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’m sure it blossomed into a much bigger fight and everything came to a head and just spiraled downward from there and by the end, the schedule was the least of their problems because they weren’t going to be able to coexist regardless of what month the tour starts. I think their statements since then make this extra clear by flat out saying lindsey is no longer a member and that it’s “final” and “firm”. If this was all over tourdates, they would announce that Lindsey will be sitting out for this tour due to scheduling conflicts. The fact that he’s actually been completely fired from the band tells me that the rift went a whole lot deeper and is much more personal.

You know what... I agree. I bet this had nothing to do with new music really. It was the fight about it that just opened up the flood gate of all the drama. Maybe Lindsey was proud of his and Christine's album and wanted to a song. Stevie got pissed and went to Mick wanting to do Stand Back in retaliation. Then Lindsey said no way. Eventually Stevie created Stevie's choice (Sophie's choice). You pick Mick. I will not tour with Lindsey so pick him or me. Mick knew they need Stevie so he picked her.
Lets be real

Like so many here I grieve with you all.
I try not to get too passionate about it, but I'll be honest...when I read about this I got sick to my stomach. I felt like this was the end of Fleetwood Mac, a band I've loved for about 45 years now, a band that, in spite of the drama, I've always felt top tier.

Now this.

How they could mess with the legacy in this way, when they're still considered hip by the kiddies, is just beyond my comprehension. Why not just call it a day and everyone 'Go Your Own Way'?

This is even worse than post '87. I consider the classic studio Mac to end then. I pretend non-fab 5 albums not to exist. Still leaves me over a dozen classics.

Short term cash grab at the expense of long term reputation. Pathetic.

I didn't say the drama wasn't real. I just see a lot of fans and a lot of the media manufacturing a lot of the drama, and filling in a narrative that none of us were present for. Yes Lindsey chose to not tour, and yes the rest of the band chose to book the tour without him. I'm sure it was really hard and unpleasant, but possibly more amicable than we think. He didn't want to tour, they did. They've always had an open door policy.

The news media is churning all sorts of the drama now: the Davis book, the Harris book, probably Mick's book as well.

Yes. And if Mick and Stevie get too pi**ed off about the backlash they are getting, and if it turns out their tour dates aren’t selling, do we think they will play this card and finish Lindsey off? Even though these are at this point allegations, Stevie was always the one holding firmly that there’s no truth to that in their relationship. In the #metoo era they would need much less to bury him and make sure he can never ever work again. Maybe that’s what they were counting on in the first place, at least as a leverage, but gun control issues became more prominent in the meantime.

Mord - sorry to have had to mention political buzz words, but I think they fit in this context and I’m not stating anything pro or against either movement.

you know i was thinking that - THIS what they did now in their 70s is ensuring that FM the movie will be made. because it's crazier than all their drugged out crazy. they don't have the excuse of being young or high now. just greedy but i'm sure the movie will turn it in a tragic exploding relationship between the exes.

like Azoff said on his SiriusXM station about the non-identified band -
it's a special kind of art to watch some of the bands and what people in them do just to torture each other unnecessarily.

or something to that effect. rings true, doesn't it?

The thing is I just don't feel like this is even the ending. Although Stevie did say "the story has a strange ending" and her writing can be eerily prescient about these things. They are all really just mere mortals though and the time is going to run out. I guess I'm still shocked that this happened at this late stage. I really just thought the five of them were going to sail off into the proverbial sunset.
I didn't know Irving Azoff had his own Sirius channel. I really must check it out. That guy has seen it all. I think to be creative people have to experience suffering. I guess it's just a matter of who's suffering. Are you making someone else suffer? And some of them just channel it better than others.

I don't think so. I think the timing was coincidental and that was a side project for Kristen where he could park some of his enormous wealth and turn a profit. That house was never meant for them to live in. It was a spec house.

I was thinking along similar lines. So it seems that the band has been a tense, negative place to be as of late. That can't be fun for anybody. And in your late 60's/early 70's who has the energy for that? It can't be good for John's health or for Chris either to come back to that after living in the solitude of the English countryside for so long.

Talking about Azoff, I would expect him to drop linds like a hot potato now that linds doesn’t carry the commercial value of FM anymore. He probably already did in these last 2 months while all this was unfolding. He might even regret it now with all the backlash. I never understood why LB would be paying big bucks for IA when from the looks of it Azoff did absolutely nothing to advance LB’s career.

Not the story that's been told. He was planning to tour with them, but was possibly planning to work solo gigs in between band gigs. He may also have had some disagreements about the material for the band gigs.

The story we're hearing is that it was Stevie who said, I can't work with him anymore. You guys decide-- do you want me, or him? And the band did the math and picked her, and told him he was out.

AliP

Honestly, I don't know why Lindsey would use the same excuse of working on solo material and wants to postpone the tour. I remember he said that in 1987 and how many years was it that he released Out of the Cradle? Like 3-4? They are not spring chickens. I guess I just don't see why he couldn't have put that on hold. Also, regarding playing new songs - so they did that on the SYW tour, it wasn't bad, in fact, many fans enjoyed it. I don't see the harm in adding one or two "new" songs to the mix.

Maybe it's true Stevie said she couldn't work with him anymore. Lindsey always seems like a drama king in everything he says. He's been recycling the same speech for 20 years now and it gets old.

Not really... people just hear and say things very freely, and usually they share the story they believe to be true based on who their favorite member is. Stevie fans say one thing, Lindsey fans say another. It appears Lindsey fans are giving Christine and John a pass and are focusing on Stevie, saying pretty much she has manipulated Mick and Mike Campbell.

But really, we know nothing other than FM fired Lindsey. We don't know why, and every 'explanation' on this board is speculation. Hopefully, a more forthcoming explanation from the five people involved will answer our questions, but until then just know that no one here knows why Lindsey was fired.

For a brief shining, moment in the 90's I do think there was an improvement in his relationship with Stevie. She might have been in love with the idea of him wanting her, or the fantasy of it. Cut to him getting married, then cut to the SYW recording process, then cut to the cash grab tours and his need to create and her refusal, then cut to him pairing with Christine (which I dont care what anyone says, I bet it pissed her off at least at first) to now wanting to yet again push the tour back and whatever may have happened in between......

No wonder it went south. There isnt enough room for both their egos. Lindseys has gotten worse with age and Stevie has, at least in my opinion, not been the same since her mother died. I think she grounded her in reality and now that rope is gone.

Some people are blind to their fandom. They refuse to call a spade a spade, no matter how damning the evidence.

I lay a huge portion of the blame at the feet of my heroine. Not that I know all the facts, but if she's guilty, she's guilty.
For me, I don’t know enough details about what happened. I doubt any of them would pick splitting up the classic lineup as a first choice. All I do know is Lindsey was visibly unhappy in FM and that there was a bad fight. I wasn’t especially surprised by any of it based solely on what Lindsey has said and from what I’ve seen from the Classic shows. Given a choice, he’d probably just do LB/CM.

I wrote off Stevie years ago and think they made a huge mistake siding with her over Lindsey. I also thought LB/CM should have been credited to Fleetwood Mac.

That said, Neil Finn and Mike Campbell are freaking amazing. They didn’t embarrass themselves this time. I’m intrigued, to say the least.

WHY was he unhappy? :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

She ruined a once very creative band. And Buck Vie WAS Fleetwood Mac, and should have been labeled as such.

On your last point, we disagree. They're past the point of reinvention. They're old, with their image cemented forever. I think ANY new lineup is a f*cking embarrassment to their legacy. I'm certain that Stevie's EGO would disagree with me.

I totally agree with this. People trying to make this better by saying how Fleetwood Mac always was evolving are forgetting the fact that the band is on its very last days. They're in their 70s. It's not like they're going to be making any new albums or going on much tours after this.
The 'image' of the band in the heads of 99% of the general public in 2018 is the Rumours 5 and now they've ruined it.

Not really. If they would have hired a bunch of nobodies they wouldn't make any money. Now they have Mike Campbell who's very well known in the USA and Neil Finn who's very well known in Australia and New Zealand. They killed 2 birds with one stone.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I never knew Crowded House to have a large and loyal following in the states. I cant imagine increased ticket sales because of him. I think most hardcore Heartbreakers fans are dead set against Mike joining Fleetwood Mac. I get it because they are 2 completely different music styles. But you never know.

It just doesn't compute.

Those were sincere words from Lindsey's mouth. Mick and Christine, not at all.

I can only imagine Lindsey's initial shock when they told him he was fired. So much that he tried to get back in. :distress:

That's because Mick Fleetwood is a complete, blooming, f*cking IDIOT. He has a musical sense, but is completely lacking anything in the common sense department. I'm amazed that he remembers to breathe.

He's more idiot for pleasing Stevie's wishes. A front woman with a tambourine. The decisions on one of the most important American rock bands in history will now be made by a woman and her tambourine.

How stupid is that? I wonder what she's gonna do when she turns to her left on the stage and find no traces of her musical director for the past 43 years.

i wonder what is this based on?

from everything we've seen he's become way more down to earth, grounded person with age.

but when he's in stevie's company, it seems they both can't resist pushing each others' buttons till one of them explodes. she even said that in that 2014 RS interview. and the fact that interview even existed in the middle of the mac tour was her pushing buttons to the max - his and everyone's else's in the band. how did that happen that her publicist was somehow inexplicably publicist for the whole band too? got a call for band interview and turned it to Stevie-only interview? who was hugely egocentric self-serving diva in that case?

If you're waiting to know what went down between the FIVE of them, that will never happen, but we know that only TWO of them (not Christine and John) forced tour promoters to choose between Lindsey and Stevie. That's a fact. And you don't get to that point without a previous fight.

Everybody knows Lindsey was the driving force behing FM. To even suggest he didn't want to tour is ridiculous, even for Stevie's fans. Right, and the thing that's so frustrating about this "reinvention" narrative is that it implies they're still a band that creates music. They are not and haven't been for some time now, and that (I have no doubt) was at the root of this "disagreement" that led to Lindsey's firing.

I'm so glad I saw them on the two occasions I did, 1980 Tusk tour and 2015. Why would anyone be interested in seeing a line up with 2 new members at this stage in their career. I wish they'd have just retired with dignity and kept their legacy intact. Personally, for me Fleetwood Mac ended with that great 2015 tour. That would have been a fitting end. The new album we all hoped for should have happened too (thanks Stevie!), but now this news seems very sad for the fans who have followed them for 40 years or so. I wish they'd all see sense and bow out gracefully!

I wish I knew more about the Musicares "fight" or whatever. When I watched a live stream of the event I thought it was great and I liked what LB said about love under the dysfunction. a. If the fight wasn't at Musicares then when did it happen? What was it about? Is it true it was about Lindsey's solo album, or is that just a face-saving tale to cover up the rather unpalatable truth, which must be really petty?

b. Did Mick actually conduct a poll of producers to see who they would prefer? If so, did he really expect them to side with Lindsey, when they know Stevie can fill more seats? Was this a tactic to slough off responsibility to someone else besides him?

c. Is there a lawsuit pending? Did Lindsey try to force the band to retain him? In other words, did he try to fight back?

I know given this band's tenuous relationship with the truth the facts will never be known, but a general summary would be nice :)

NotonRodeo, those are all great questions that we would all love to know the answers to, and I'm certain we'll hear at least two different versions soon. I agree with you 100%... All of these questions NEED ANSWERS!

As I understand it, there have been rumors about ongoing conflicts delaying the upcoming tour for the past few months. We don't know the circumstances of Lindsey's dismissal/firing, however several news outlets are reporting that he either left or was fired by Mick after he wanted to push the FM world tour for his solo album and/or tour.

Lindsey's daughter, Leelee, posted an instagram message when the news broke, saying something to the effect of "There's no Fleetwood Mac without you [Lindsey]. #prouddaughter." Fans have interpreted this to mean that Lindsey was, in fact, fired from the band, especially since Leelee has publicly liked fan messages of support for Lindsey that also criticize Stevie and/or Mick.

Regarding Lindsey fighting back, I read a previous poster's comment to mean that since Lindsey rejoined the band after leaving before, he was in for good this time and would not leave again of his own volition. Not that he was actively trying to get back in the band right now. As far as I can tell, the Lindsey lawsuit and Mick and/or Stevie and/or Stevie's management forcing tour promotors to choose between Stevie and Lindsey are just fan speculation at this time.

--
As I've said in numerous other posts, I don't see any incentive - financially or otherwise - for Stevie to have Lindsey thrown out of the band. Her entire narrative on tour, from the scripted interactions with Lindsey during certain songs, to her long Gypsy speech, to turning her microphone towards him during Silver Springs, revolves around their "love affair" onstage relationship.

And even if Stevie just wanted the spotlight (meaning she wants to change the going through the motions/"cash cow" script mentioned above), surely even she would know that Fleetwood Mac would sell more, and higher priced, tickets, with the classic lineup. So if she's just plain financially greedy that doesn't make sense to me either. Maybe someone can flesh out the anti-Stevie conspiracies.

For now, all I can guess is that tempers flared over something petty, as you suggested, NotonRodeo, and some kind of ultimatum was issued by either Mick or Lindsey.

The more I think about it, this just wreaks of Mick. He's been sitting idle too long and needs to get out on the road. After the rest of the band got out of town after Music Cares, he hung around to attend the Grammys. Bit of a hanger on. Too much of Stevie's history (and gothic trunk of lost songs) is wrapped in Lindsey. She has severe mentionitis where he is concerned. She may bite her tongue off before the first show on this tour because she can't mention him. It could be fun to watch, but I won't be paying for it.
I am a huge fan of this band and everyone in it, but not gonna lie, can't listen to their stuff right now. Hurts too much.
