What do you think we can realistically expect from Fleetwood Mac at this point in time?

If I'm honest and not optimistic but realistic, this is what I expect:
- Lindsey solo album in April 2018 and short US tour
- Fleetwood Mac cash grab greatest hits world tour September 2018 - December 2019 (with a break of two or three months between continents)
- If we're lucky, Buckingham McVie II and another duo tour
- No final Fleetwood Mac album
- A greatest hits retrospective Fleetwood Mac album, maybe including four new tunes
- No new music from Stevie, not even solo (maybe another vault songs album but to me that doesn't count as new music)
- No solo album from Christine
- Mick to continue playing with his blues band
- John maybe to retire from touring before the rest of the band
- 2018-2019 tour will be the last one

What do you guys expect? Keen to hear your thoughts on this one!

Cheers

James

Lindsey’s solo CD is likely to be delayed (well, probably because a record company is involved and they have delusions of grandeur that it can become a Fleetwood Mac CD). We may see a “Best of” collection from Warner’s for Lindsey’s solo work before we see the solo CD. Hopefully he tours solo this summer before the Mac tour gears up.

I hate it when people refer to tours as "Cash grabs." Bands go on the road and the supply/demand dictates the ticket prices. They would get bashed for not touring and when they still can for a final act, I don't think its fair to call it a cash grab.
Having said that, I believe this big world tour will be near the end of the road for the band.
I think Stevie will do another solo tour 2020? I don't believe the Mac will record again. I think Lindsey and Christine may do another album but I don't think they will tour.
I think the band may reunite for a few appearances here and there but no more touring.

Lindsey will keep making music, as long as there are labels willing to put it out--and there are.

I think another BuckVie is a BIG possibility.

Anything else is a dream, I think.

Sadly I think Stevie is in full Miss Havishan mode (only wearing black and not her white wedding dress) and will forever be living in and off her past. Now that atom is gone and her parents and no family or love life for some time (that we know of) she’s a bit of a Debbie Downer. :(

"Cash Grab" isn't in reference to them touring, or the price of tickets, it's the lack of any new material for the tour to support.

One band member refused to record or make new music. The rest of the band would have went on the road to promote new music. If its a no go with new music, lets not have them just sit around. Lets have them play at least one more time.

You know what...? I don't think an album and then a tour is unrealistic at this point. I really never thought it would happen but I think there is a chance. It sounds like Lindsey's album has been postponed or shelved. Stevie says 'I'm going to Hawaii for a couple of months and then...well I have no plans'.

If Lindsey's album is rolled into a Fleetwood Mac album I'd be annoyed for him. Of course I'd personally prefer a Fleetwood Mac album but I'm annoyed he's pushed for a FM record for nearly 10 years and then just because her majesty might be ready he'd be expected to put the band first.

Mind you, Lindsey's position has changed over the past 20 years. 20-30 years ago he was all for the small machine. Now things are different due to his family. Its not that he wants to make money (he doesn't need it), I think its more the case he likes his family to see him as the big rock star. He's proud of his wife and kids seeing him being in the limelight.

Anyway, I do think a chance for one last album might be back on the table. Stevie's done her solo thing and I think she's genuinely ready for Fleetwood Mac...and I think she could be prepping for the band to go out in a big way.

I think there is a genuine chance of them recording together in May-June-July with a tour starting late 2018. They could return to recording in 2019 at some point.

On balance- is this likely? possibly not...but I certainly don't think its unrealistic.

I wonder how things might have panned out differently had they made a different decision when Chris rejoined.
They decided to do another big tour straight away- I'm sure Mick & Lindsey had hoped Chris rejoining would have led Stevie to immediately record an album straight after that tour.
Stevie always talks about her solo-Fleetwood Mac-solo-Fleetwood Mac cycle. Had they used that window to do an album, surely Stevie would have had no choice but to do an at least a short tour to support it. Perhaps we could have had an album and tour at that point rather than just one big, long tour.

Its amazing after that huge Mac tour that they went on another huge 2 year Mac tour with Christine back to back. I think their age had something to do with it (making up for lost time). It would have been something if they would have went into the studio first. I don't want an EP or 4 rushed live demo tracks. I want the full monty drama of a year in the studio with the Mac.

:confused::confused::confused::confused: (this is to everyone above, not just the post i quoted).

they did go into studio first. they had 6 months. the 4 FM members went into studio for 1-2 months out of that (regardless of their revisionist history when that work ended up not being called FM). they basically completely fleshed out the album they later called BuckVie (after adding some finishing touches in a couple of weeks at the end of 2016) at that time. and Stevie finished her whole 24kg album in that time too.

question is willingness, not the time. obviously they had enough time considering they released 2 complete separate albums recorded in that time!

The issue discussed was completing a full album with all members and promoting it on the road. Obviously the tour was booked and there was not the time to finish. They hit the road pretty fast after Christine's return. Yes several tracks were roughly recorded. We were discussing if the tour was not booked and they spend a full year in the studio together before going on tour to promote the album. Apples and oranges.

You know what? If the choice is between a Lindsey solo record and a Fleetwood Mac record, then I want Fleetwood Mac. And I don't think it would take a whole year to record a new Fleetwood Mac album. I mean, didn't Stevie record 16 songs in six weeks in Nashville? If so, surely the Mac can record a dozen new songs in three months from May to the end of July, right?

Lindsey clearly already has at least ten songs in the can. Pretty sure Chris would have leftover material from the latest Fleetwood Mac album, oh sorry, I mean the Buckingham McVie album, of course. That said, I wish Mick and John had the balls to join Chris and Linds on their tour. They played on all ten tracks, for ****'s sake.

What will be the last full length Fleetwood Mac album? It will technically be Say You Will, but in reality it will be Buckingham McVie.

And those 16 songs recorded in 6 weeks sound like it. They were demos quickly recorded and most of the tracks sound better in their demo form. I want a REAL Fleetwood Mac album. I don't want an EP or rushed Dance live tracks. It normally takes the Mac a year to record an album so I would have been willing to give them that time. I want good new music, not any new music that was written and recorded in a week. I would love a cohesive yet drama filled Fleetwood Mac album.
Its not going to happen but too bad we missed that opportunity :(

I think they should get in that studio all FIVE of them, like NOW..
We know Lindsey has plenty of material and Christine can produce
really good work really quick.

If Stevie cannot knock off THREE songs and get in and out of a studio, avoiding Lindsey (if that’s such a problem) too much

then the FOUR should record without her...

I want a new Mac Album, and still hold out hope.

The band DID record without her. But they did not want to upset Stevie to call it a Fleetwood Mac album. Like a willow, they can bend and went way out of their way to appear it was not a group effort.

Exactly! It turned into a "non Fleetwood Mac" album when Stevie wanted to do her 24K tour and "the band" wanted to release what they have been working on. I still think that there will be new material released prior to the 5 going out on tour.

Hey gang, wasn't sure which thread to post this in, but this seemed as good as any. Over the weekend, former BuckMcVie (and Stevie) drummer Jimmy Paxson posted on Instagram the following:

LA Bound - Just spent weeks shedding 24 tunes and I’m about to take off for 3 days of rehearsal in LA for an ultra private gig in Cabo (plus I’m squeezing in a record date after hours)- Happy to say that @ksjump will be joining me for the best of it 🏝... I’ll be playing drums w/Billy Gibbons & Steve Miller and also playing percussion w/Christine McVie & Mick Fleetwood... Cast and crew is like a family reunion ! It’s a good thing. Well, this is certainly very curious. I can only assume its for a one off event. It looks as if Jimmy P is off on a tour with a couple of guys for March through to August.

If its not for a one-off concert I wonder if Christine is doing an album after all. The tiny snippet of Think About Me is only just recognizable. Wonder whether she might be re-imagining some of her songs. A freshly recorded Best of Christine McVie would be pretty cool. Probably way off the mark, I'm sure.

I highly doubt she's working on a solo album. I think BuckVie scratched her itch perfektly. Her material out there, without all the pressure of being solo.

I'd ten times rather have a BuckVie II than a FM album.

Perhaps they are working on BuckVie II... but then surely Jimmy P would have referenced working with Christine and Lindsey. He only mentioned working with Christine and Mick. Maybe it is just a one-off charity gig or something.

And the beauty of working on BuckVie material is, of course, that it could easily morph into a FM album, should O.G.B. decide to pretend to be "an artist", instead of an oldies act.

According to this q and a with Keith Olsen Stevie and Lindsey own the rights.
"Lindsey and Stevie now own the rights to Buckingham Nicks... they bought it back from Polydor/polygram etc etc... The label in the beginning thought that the album lacked imagination... but by contract they had to release it... nice eh? What a wonderful business this is... I hope they (Lindsey and Stevie) will re release it soon... I'll get on their collective case about it...! I guess I have the only CD in the world.. I pulled out the masters over a year ago, baked them to re-adhere the oxide to the backing, then built a master digital from it... it took me back so many years."

I am not sure it would. Most fans already have it -either on vinyl or a bootleg CD. The hardcore fans would buy it again if it were re-mastered. But without the Fleetwood Mac moniker, it likely won’t sell very well. Perhaps it should have been packaged with the White album deluxe re-release. That would have excited the fan base, which might have generated a momentum that could carry over to the casual fan. As you noted, sales to the casual fan are a key to success.

It's hard to believe as a serious fan that this hasn't been re-released. It's such a great album. It's the last thing they ever did as a duo of this quality. I mean Twisted is ok. And SA.. zzzzzzzz...

But, I do agree. Sales wise the album was a flop. And even with FM name.. how many units would it actually sell? 3MIL worth?

Would have been great to have a SUPER deluxe version w/ B/N for the White album. Great idea.

I mean, if you want an album to share your pain with, then SYW it's your choice. I suspect that's the reason Stevie doesn't want to record anymore with FM. She knows she's gonna depress everybody.

Exactly!!!

I too, think that she's miserable these days, and it certainly shows in her music. I'm old, I never married, I had no children(that I didn't kill), nobody loves me, blah, blah, blah. Now that's depressing!

Christine makes loving fun, and that's what always made FM fun!

SYW is a substantial, impressive effort, but it’s really more a gathering of songs—-a lot of songs—than a coherent artistic project. Still, I’m glad to have that music.

It DOES lack humor and light. But it’s intensity is powerful and authentic.

Still, I much prefer Christine’s ITM.

I like SYW...it took me ages to get into it, it was a slow burner.
(I also like it as it was £3 from a charity shop, Best Buy ever....)

I think the songs are complex and need plenty of listening to.
Which is just what you want from an album.

I like SYW more every time I listen to it. I just find myself skipping songs here and there.

Silver Girl is just wrong on so many levels. It's the return of Second Time from BTM... It's really bad.

I love Illume. I don't tire of it. And I do love complex FMac. I just think it needs that glue. hmmmmm..

SYW is definitely not the most cohesive album I have ever heard. I think some of it is due to the sequencing but it sounds like 2 solo albums converged. I love Miranda, Thrown Down, Illume, Steal Your Heart Away, Everybody Finds Out, and Say You Will. I dont even mind Silver Girl. The only song I really skip is Come. I am not a huge fan of those long guitar solos. I still enjoy the album. I do think it would have been even better with all 5. Christine's music does add levity and a more pop sound.

I can't stand WTWCT, Silver Girl, SYW..

Love Come, Everybody Finds Out, Miranda, Illume, Say Goodbye.

Bleed to Love her is boring on the studio version. Not crazy about Steal Your Heart Away... I think the album is too long. It could have been more intense had Mick and Stevie got their way and had a 10 track album. Sometimes less is more.

A double album where the band isn't cohesive wouldn't have been a good idea.

Why would Mick need another drummer(except with FM?)?

Same reason Lindsey needs another guitarist and Chris needs another keyboardist...?

I just can't think of any reasons he'd be "playing percussion" (as the Instagram post said) with Mick & Chris. Cuz we know FM ain't recording anything new... :(

The Chris Lord-Alge remix of Say You Will should have been included on the album. It is SO MUCH better than what ended up on it. I agree with you on WTWCT. I dont hate it but it was a very poor choice for an opening song on an album.

WTWCT kills the vibe of the album. He was trying to do Second Hand News.. again... and it's a boring version..

Same thing with Sleeping Around the Corner.. but I like that song because it's got that quirky Lindsey vibe and it's quick.

I grow tired of paying to see their back up musicians. Especially Christine. So much talent and she's become so lazy on keys. Lindsey is right behind her. And Mick's always had Christine as a shaker for Oh Well, Monday Morning etc.. She doesn't even do that anymore.

I believe WTWCT is a fantastic album opener.
There is very little I don't like about Say You Will. The band took huge creative risks on several tracks. I think the dare paid off. Of course the album missed Christine intensely. But we got In The Meantime instead and I would not trade that for the world.

I like Silver Girl. I think the lyrics are pretty good. Something captivates me about the song.

I don't think there ever was an 'injury'. I think its just arthritis.
Pure speculation, of course.
Musicians are prone to arthritis and piano players in particular. My guess would be its exacerbated if somebody played regularly but then had a long break. Its been mentioned before (by me, I'm sure) but she holds her two middle fingers on her right hand really awkwardly at times.

All that screaming... FM has never been about that(except Not That Funny on Mirage - but my high school friends made me fast forward past it, EVERY time). I don't even hate the song, but it belongs on a solo album, not FM, IMO.

Agree Illume and Silver Girl not her best.

Thrown Down though is quite good and I like what it adds to our insights into band dynamics. Same with Say Goodbye.

And pairing Say Goodbye with Goodbye Baby works very well.
And the lines:

It was I who was
The hourglass
And the sands of time like

You can really see the warped hand position in the video of her BBC performance of Songbird. Even doing the simple ascending pattern at the end seemed difficult for her. Not so with the left hand, which appeared to be comfortably positioned.

Not a big fan of Say You Will. There are some good songs.
The ones I really dont like:

Illume (bland boring and obviously written so she can stay in her current 3 note range)

Running through the garden sounds like Rock a little voice . Song is grating.

Murrow and Come are ok but they are LB solo.

Bleed to love her lost something from the Dance version. It was much better

Silver Girl an ok little song but kinda boring.

Peacekeeper was a redo of Kodachrome and i was mortified when I heard it. How did know one say anything to LB?

All and all the loss of CM was badly felt here.

Say You Will (and at a different point in time, Tusk) are the two albums that got me immersed in the Mac. Thrown Down is beautiful in its tragedy. Everybody Finds Out is a haunting rocker. Come is a profane rockaway masterpiece. Steal Your Heart Way contains Christine magic and is a true band song.

When are we going to hear My Mother's Rings by Stevie Nicks? On her next (and probably last) solo studio record? At a live Fleetwood Mac show as a surprise encore? Now that it has been confirmed that My Mother's Rings is a song title straight from the horse's (Nicks's) mouth announced or mentioned in passing, whatever, at a meet and greet...I'm darn curious, God dammit!

1. 24 Karat Gold Tour Stevie Nicks with Pretenders DVD by the end of May 2018

2. Stevie releases more than two new songs before she dies.

Well, they could go back to being very creative, with lots of output, if it wasn't for her holding them back. True?

Nope. That statement couldn’t be more false. She’s not holding anything back. I’m favt she’s allowing for everyone in the band to do what they do best at this stage in their careers while simultaneously giving the fans the most of everything. She’s off doing a career best tour (without any exaggeration, although I’m sure you’d disagree) stevie touring AND buck/I’ve allowed for way more songs to be heard live in 2016/2017 then if the band had toured. Plus everyone and their mom noticehow all parties are much happier and less staged apart. Even Mick gets to have an outlet to play drums with his blues band.

But I can already here the false rebuttal:

“Well at least we’d get Fleetwood Mac touring with NEW material,
That were all deprived of because of stevie Nicks. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. This current decade has provided so much new Fleetwood Mac related music, this terrible dry spell narrative some on here love to bring up is just wrong. Stevie has released 2 long solo albums and toured behind both and played many live cuts from both albums. Even if you consider 24 KG not a real new album which I don’t see the logic behind at all, In Your Dreams is recent enough for me to consider stevie Nicks an artist still. Considering it Was realeased in her early 60s an age I would consider retirement age for most. And then there’s still 5 to 6 actual new songs between The 24 karat album and soundtracks.

But we got deprived of Fleetwood Mac new music you say. Well if you say that your joining the group of people who consider stevie the litmus test of what makes Something considered Fleetwood Mac. Because what I believe is we 110 percent got new Fleetwood Mac music in 2017 with the Buckingham McVie. Now that it’s not as new I can confidently consider carnival begin and too far gone to be in my top 20 or even 10 Fleetwood Mac songs. I don’t care what the cover says and neither should anyone on this site. The name on the cover of the album being a hang up for so many really baffles me. Stevie is not needed on this album. The 10 songs flow so well together, for all we know stevie may have ruined the flow?

I’m by no means trying to say we should all be greatful to stevie for providing us fans with the very best Scenerio to maximize the fans value in these late years of the band, but she sort of unintentionally has done just that, and I am.

The only legit reason I see for anyone being pissed at stevie is her almost downright disregard for her fans intelligence with her bs in interviews. I want to throw up as bad as some of you when she speaks in interviews. Her and the rest of the band really annoy me with the dishonesty and permenant act of “keep the peace in public” for the good of the band when they tour next. I think this is a group criticism or specifically mick maybe more then it is a purely stevie thing which some people seem to assume. It’s infuriating they just won’t be honest about the situation.

But at least from an ends justifying the means stand point Stevie’s actions have definitely been good for the Fleetwood Mac brand as a whole, at least pertaining to output. Stevie might be as delusional as you say, but your as delusional as her if you think she’s prevented any sort of output from happening, outside of “maybe” impacting the name one of the album cover.

jbrownsjr

I do have to agree that he absence has made for a more fertile ground. We got something I would have never of dreamed: BuckVie. Which sort of sounds like a Mirage cousin. We got Lindsey excited to work with another FM member. The tour and album were successful for a medium brand.

We got Stevie doing a larger solo tour with the Pretenders and while it wasn't FMac sales, it was nothing to sneeze at. And except for her talking, most reviews were really good. She seemed happy at Musicares instead of that scowl on her face when around Lindsey.

We got Mick's project. I listened to the Live album and it was pretty damn good.

I guess I'm annoyed with them for getting old. And annoyed with Stevie interviews. But, I'm trying to give her credit, she respected Christine's hiatus more than any band member...errrrrr Lindsey was mad as hell. She even offered Christine 5 million dollars.. lol. Talk about manipulation!! She missed her sister.

I think Stevie is going to come around and do an album with them. Not sure why I think this, but my gut tells me. I have a feeling the tour won't happen. I don't know why... But, the whole Sirius thing felt odd.

My 2 cents.

I have loved this band and their work together since the late 70s, but I think I have finally had enough of the drama. It honestly feels like it is time for the Rumours lineup to call it a day. If they want to work together in various configurations, great. I would not be upset if they called off the tour which seems to keep getting pushed back. I just don't want to see them embarrassing themselves trying to be who they were 40 years ago. Some bands are able to pull from more than 5 albums and also adapt and do different arrangements of their songs to keep things fresh. That is not going to happen with FM. They are way too rigid when it comes to live performance. Stevie and Lindsey have both become insufferable in my opinion. I would hate to be a journalist tasked with interviewing either of them.

It was an ultra private event, so no pix - But we were in Cabo 🏝and killing it. Big thanks to the cast & crew that made this happen... Again to @ksjump - You are a breath of fresh air... Sounds like the Jimmy Paxson event with Mick and Chris was a private gig also involving Steve Miller and Billy Gibbons. I wonder whether they all played separately or whether they played anything together? Miller, Gibbons and McVie...I'd break the bank for that

Got to admit, that version makes an otherwise unpalatable song palatable

While on the subject, realistically I can still see them recording an album this spring. It will be part unreleased Lindsey Buckingham solo album (with SN/CM overdubs) added to several Christine McVie songs, added to 3 Stevie Nicks songs (a couple of vault songs and possibly a new one).

Tour rehearsals starting late summer.

Tour starting early/mid autumn coinciding with new album release;

US: October 2018 through to May 2019.

UK/Europe tour: June-

including Glastonbury Headline set 29th June 2019

2020: Fleetwood Mac Gold: a new retrospective

The way Stevie said she had nothing planned for the spring, coupled with the seeming shelving of Lindsey's solo album suggest something could be happening. I'd be annoyed for him, but he wouldn't have to give his songs over to a FM album unless he wanted to. We shall wait and see.

If they want to work together in various configurations, great. I would not be upset if they called off the tour which seems to keep getting pushed back. I know how you feel. My emotional responses to the band are stunted from my fatigue and their exposure. I always thought that the soap opera label they gave themselves applied to their romantic lives together, but it's the most hellish aspect of daytime soaps—the lack of story resolution that prevents characters from moving on—that characterizes Fleetwood. Just like with soaps, you can tune out for years and then tune back in, and you'll still be stuck watching scenes with two ex-lovers talking to each other, saying the same thing they were saying when you left them years earlier.

Something occasionally comes out that cuts through 30 or 40 years of bull**** and puts me in touch with what I felt a long time ago. Last year's Tusk Deluxe does that for me—the Village tracks, the live tracks, and the art put me back in touch with emotions I had about Fleetwood Mac in '79 and haven't had since. So I've been listening to Deluxe for a few months now and soaking in it. What a joy!

Stevie and Lindsey have both become insufferable in my opinion. I would hate to be a journalist tasked with interviewing either of them.Aaaand there's that.

Stevie did say she was taking "three months" off, which is a pretty specific number. Couple that with Lindsey's canceled solo album? You never know with this band. Stevie might have been happy with the poppy, not as weird direction Buckingham Mc Vie took and had a change of heart. Who knows.

This feels a bit like splitting hairs, but since I think so many of us are eagerly awaiting... something (whether it be a tour or an album or some kind of solo effort), Stevie said she was "going to Hawaii for two months," not 3. Which, at the time she said that, would put the two-month mark at the start of April.

Still, if anything were actually in the works, it just feels like we would have heard something by now?

Here's the video where she says that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjYBppDNqco

Rumor has it that he almost released a comedy

With Rusty, nothing's more important than

What can we realistically expect from this band at this point?

Seriously, I don't know. I look at other bands that have been around about the same time, and it's clear that nothing is realistically guaranteed. And it's not just in music, but that's the opening question. The Eagles lost Glenn Frey, which was totally unexpected. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers lost Tom, which was a shock. Prince is gone. Some bands carry on. I think we have to take every show as a gift- maybe every moment in life as a gift.

Well, it maybe doesn't excite you anymore but in my case I never had the chance to follow the band on a tour, so I'd like to do that. I understand that many fans are tired of the same setlist and the same tour over and over again but many of us are new fans, so I'd like to enjoy it at least one time. :)

Besides, FM needs to say their goodbyes before going their own way  I don't say they owe it to us, but it'd be the right thing to do.

I'd love for both a LB's solo tour and a FM tour. And if there's chance for only one of them, I won't complain, as long as they give us something to look forward to. :woohoo:

The thing is, there are probably fifteen songs they have to do with this particular lineup, which gives them six or seven songs they could play with. It’s the way they don’t switch up those songs that frustrates a lot of us.

For example, they did SOTM on the 2013 tour. Did it need to back in 2014? “Straight Back” would have been a better choice since Christine, the whole reason there was a 2014 tour, was so prominent in the vocal mix. Similarly, I would have skipped IKINW in favor of “Steal Your Heart Away,” which was one of the only songs featuring Christine on SYW and which has never been played live at a Fleetwood Mac show.

Nah. Who wants bribery and no passion. As an artist you must be self motivated to create something good. Lindsey and Christine love to make new music. Stevie I think does like so too. But she does not want to be around Lindsey.
I fear that we will get 3 new live songs with the tour. They will be average at best and not officially recorded. I don't want that and don't want another EP either.
