Whomever closed the DC Wolf Trap thread...
well let me just say that was a cheesy thing
to do.

People's feelings sure get hurt easy here.

Closing it was so odd- I read that thread again and it appears it was closed because someone said they weren't going to see Buck/Vie live after watching some concert videos of them posted here.

As FM once said so eloquently, "Oh Well." On With the Show!

Saw BMac in Boston. A thoroughly enjoyable show! A big crowd in the 5000 seat seaside venue. Crowd stood almost entire evening and the band fed off the energy. Outside of a disappointing encore that failed to capture the energy that had blown the roof off the place during the YMLF, SA, GYOW, Everywhere fire blast, I can say this was simple joy for me.

In My World and So Afraid were pure ecstasy for me.

More thoughts later.

No surprise to me that the thread was shut down. There are a slew of people here who regularly enjoy bashing SN and her live performances but 'cry me a river' when u give an opinion on their faves that they can't handle. Plus we have a Ledgie moderator who is part of that pound SN pack who I'd guess was prompted to and more than likely the one who locked it up. That won't stop people from expressing honest opinions in other threads of the BuckVie live shows. It is important for it to be noted that I WANT them to be great live and if they aren't, let's just call a spade a spade. And though SN has always been my favorite singer, I have always called FM my favorite band and love many songs by Lindsey and Chris. And I love the new Fleetwood Mac album but am highly turned off by how these songs are presented live.

I've read through the DC thread that got closed. And now I'm reading through this thread.

Anyone on here knows I'm the biggest Christine fan (with the exception of Macfan57--wherever you are!). But I can understand how more than a few people are disappointed by the way she and LB sound on this tour. The videos are rough indeed.

But that's something we have to remember: they're videos. I remember seeing FM twice on the last tour. When I saw them in Buffalo, I was overjoyed to witness what I thought was the best version of SYLM I'd heard in years. Everyone sounded great! Then I went to YouTube the following week and watched it again. Everything and everyone sounded awful. There is a distinct difference between the concert-goer's experience and the home viewer's experience. It does not surprise me at all that those who are attending the shows are having a great time. The arrangements and performances are tailored to a live theatre

I am disappointed that neither LB nor CM are playing as much as they could be, but hey, I am just happy I got this magnificent album of songs, which is more than I could have hoped for at this stage.

One more note: I have often felt the same way about Stevie's live performances these days. Some of her vocals, like Christine's, are cringe-worthy. It happens. They're all getting older. The difference is that Stevie still exerts an urgency and energy that give her performances an added lift. She still has an "attack." I only mention Stevie at all here because a comparison between the two singers was made in the DC thread.

But, again, we still have all this new music. For that, I'm overjoyed.

Hear, hear. :xoxo:

I hate the notion that to be a fan means you have to a totally sycophantic ass kisser of this band or any members. When people PAY for an artist's work (live or recorded) they have every right to have an opinion about that work and every right to express it. A healthy, respectful exchange of opinions is what these forums should be about.

Absolutely! This isn't Seven Wonders! You can be critical without being necessarily mean. A spade is a spade.

So, they sing off key, and play with karaoke tracks...so what!:sorry::sorry::sorry::D

I just think if you love someone (a person, a band, a performer, whatever) you have to love them warts and all. You can't wish their flaws away. I always find it interesting when fans can't admit any flaws or foibles in their idols.... it's like they're saying I can't love this band/person/music if they aren't absolutely perfect. No one is and you certainly can't expect performers who've been around as long as this band has been to be 100% every time. That's for the casual fans who only show up when the band has a hit. A lot of us are in it for the long haul and that means bumps in the road and cringe-worthy songs/shows/interviews from time to time.

I'm not watching any videos on You Tube because I want to be surprised (even though I know the setlist), and because there's a huge, huge difference between attending a concert and watching videos on You Tube from an awful angle and with a crappy sound. I don't want anybody to ruin it for me.

Anyway, I don't need any excuses. If I don't want to go to a concert, I'm not waiting for somebody to tell me the musicians sound awful. Clearly, if I don't go is because I never got the intention of going. Period.

Different performances from different members of this band is a matter of preferences. I don't care about Stevie's attacks of energy. I don't like her outside of the band, and I don't make excuses.

I'm waiting to see them live (all of them and BuckVie alone) and I hope my opinion won't be taken as a negative one if I don't like them.

This band is literally the soundtrack of my entire life. It pains me to see them get old, and their voices not as strong. Their hands not as agile.

Because I'm getting older, too. Yes I'm getting older, too.

So even if we're being honest about their frailties, I DID enjoy this BuckVie show as much as any FM show I've ever attended!!! It's a little bittersweet, wondering how much longer they've got left to do this, watching your LIFETIME HEROES winding down, but joyous nonetheless!

Watching the videos some of the songs are a little rough. But I'd still go to the shows just to see them. It's clear the crowd is enjoying themselves. I do wonder how the next world tour is going to go given what's going on here. It's clear there are parts when Lindsey isn't playing, Chris isn't playing and she was using a teleprompter to get the lyrics of Hold Me straight.

I did NOT lock the Wolftrap thread. As some of you might think.

I love the debates and don't really get offended by others' opinions of FMac and it's members. I do love this board and it's members. All of you. Even you Viv, who seems to think I have some sinister plan of pounding Stevie. :)

Just be civil to each other, folks. We're still human beings. If you don't like Stevie or Christine.. so what. We don't need people policing which members are being talked about.

What we need is you to be decent human beings State your opinion without attacking anyone. It's that simple. This is a great place with a great family.

Feel the honor of being able to express yourself. That's all.

Just adding my 2 cents here... I've been to two shows. I've watched a lot of the videos.

I would strongly caution against making a decision about attending one of these shows based on the quality of sound coming from the YouTube videos. Sure, this isn't Tusk-era Fleetwood Mac, but it's a good show and a lot of fun to watch. And given the price of the lawn/back-of-house tickets, it's a bargain.

I've heard some Tusk recordings where all 3 singers were way off. It's rock and roll, but I LIKE IT!!

Can you tell us more about Christine and Lindsey's performances? How did they sound?

Lindsey was in great vocal form. His singing is far better now than say the 2003-2009 FM / Solo period.

Christine was pretty good. Lindsey does a lot more singing. For instance he carries much more of Feel About You live. Actually Christine was very good on her leads, with Brett fattening up some of her leads and shares with Lindsey. The one exception being the closer, Game of Pretend, where she had some missteps both vocally and on the keys. Otherwise, I think she acquitted herself quite well.

Lindsey was almost euphoric on stage. Happy, being the band leader, a non-stop smile, and Christine's interactions with him were real, genuine, and true. They smiled and laughed with and at each other throughout the night.

I came away from the night with giant smile and a wave of good feelings.

I've read several comments about Lindsey being in a better vocal form. That's fantastic.

Well, about Game of Pretend, it's almost at the end of the show, so I'm not complaining. I'm surprised though about Lindsey doing more vocals on Feel About You than Christine.

Glad to read they're being happy on stage, individually and with each other. That's what I'm waiting to see!

I was at the Boston show last night, and it was great. Both Lindsey and Christine sounded very good, vocally. The set list was absolutely brilliant. By ending with a beautiful new song (the fabulous "Game of Pretend") INSTEAD of "Songbird," they were making a real statement: "we are NOT Fleetwood Mac, and we don't have to follow the same old set-in-stone format."

The little acoustic set that started the show worked really well. It didn't even really matter which four songs they did (although "Wish You Were Here" was a perfect choice, and performed beautifully); just to see the two of them together on stage was a thrill. And it was obvious they felt the same. There was genuine affection and gratitude flowing between the two of them all night. Did anyone else notice the little joking gestures Lindsey made toward Christine during "Go Your Own Way"? Then he went over and nuzzled up next to her with his guitar as if to say, "Did you get it? Did you get the joke I just made?"

It's true that Lindsey carried more of the lead vocals than Christine, but he does have a stronger voice, and he is used to being the band leader. When she did take the lead vocal, she sounded really good. She was definitely playing real keyboards on several of the songs, including the ethereal "Game of Pretend." There's no reason to suppose that any of the vocals were pre-recorded; after all, there were three other skilled vocalists in the band and they were able to provide all the singing that was needed.

My only disappointment, really, is that they omitted my two favorite songs from the new record ("On With the Show" and "Carnival Begin"), but the ones they DID play were fabulous.

Can anyone supply me the names of the drummer and bass player? I need them if I am going to write a proper review of the show for my website.

I respect your right to lock a thread you started, elle. I don't think you meant it to be, but your comment here seems a little condescending when you start off with "Children!" And I didn't notice any "bickering" UNTIL that thread was closed, and even then it was just people speculating as to why that thread was closed. Thanks for clearing it up.

The drummer is Jimmy Paxson -- he played with Stevie on a tour or two. I don't remember which ones, like Crystal Visions or something in 2007. Don't know the bass player. Sorry.

I also went to the Boston show last night. And also sad they didn't play my two favorites - On with the Show and Carnival Begin. But I cried when I heard "Hold Me" for the first time live.

The show was awesome! So much energy and love in the place. Chris was definitely playing a lot of keyboards, and Lindsey was his usual amazing self. They were interacting so much, it was a joy to see. GYOW, he was singing the "shackin up is all you wanna do" line to her, and she was mouthing, "No. YOU. It's all YOU wanna do." The funniest moment of the night for me came after his speech about them still having so much chemistry. He went in for a fist bump and she clearly had no idea what he was doing. She gave him a thumbs up instead, and he ended up lightly punching her knuckles and giving her a thumbs up back. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. And I would join the ranks of people cautioning you not to judge the sound by youtube videos. So different live.

Unfortunately, I figured as much.

I was nearly through with a response to you in that thread
and you locked it so quickly after your last response that I
couldn't post it.

Without posting that complete response again, I find your words
more than a little condescending to vivfox and myself in the
closed thread.

I think most people understand that you can't judge a "concert's"
sound based on videos recorded with phones and the like. For
that matter, not even professionally recorded multi-track recordings
come close to what it actually sounds like at a live concert.

I've been to enough concerts to understand that sometimes we
get starstruck and we fool ourselves in to making the show or
performance better than it actually was. And I'm guessing Elle
that you might be guilty of that in this case.

As I've already said, I'm a big fan of Lindsey and Christine and
am wishing them a very successful tour. I hope for more music
from them. But what those YouTube videos do tell us is that their
voices are weak and off-key in many instances.

What surprises me even more is their musicianship. Maybe
Christine is suffering from arthritis like many have suggested.
But I don't understand what happened to Lindsey. And for
him it's not just this tour. If it's just a different approach,
I don't like it. I want the Rocker back!

i know re GYOW! i always wanna dance and sing and jump around during GYOW so i didn't want to record it, but in DC as he was singing the shackin up line to her she was doing a whole little acting schtick, flirting and going "who me?" or something like that, i want to look for videos of it to see whether somebody has captured it. it was so cute, and apparently she does a different one every night! (i didn't notice her doing that in Raleigh). so that's a part to definitely record if possible. they do it with so much joy and fun.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience. And I would join the ranks of people cautioning you not to judge the sound by youtube videos. So different live.
noooooo, don't you know people like you and i are just being deluded and starstruck into thinking this and we don't really know what we are hearing!:p :woohoo:

I've got one, too(burgundy WH)!

I took my "large" Tusk baseball jersey to Nashville, to wear to BuckVie. But apparently a 1980 large isn't the same as a 2017 large. Because someone is too fat to wear it(without embarrassment)!:mad::mad:

I've been to enough concerts to understand that sometimes we
get starstruck and we fool ourselves in to making the show or
performance better than it actually was.

This strikes me as such an odd comment to make in the context of overall concert experience. If you're there and enjoying the show (because you're "starstruck" or otherwise), then why does it matter if the performers miss a note here or there? Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't limit my enjoyment. It's a natural part of seeing a live show.

If the suggestion is that they're off-key and missing notes throughout the entirety of the show, that's incorrect.

First off let me thank you for being part of one of only nineteen posts in the
nearly seventeen years you've been here. I feel special.

Unless you're going to a magic show where you intentionally suspend belief in
truth or reality to be able to enjoy the show, one should enjoy (or not) the show
they're witnessing based on that particular performance and nothing else.
That's hard to do for super fans. It clouds our judgement most times.

Missing a note here or there? I guess it's according to how many times that
happens during the show to whether or not you can judge it as acceptable or
not. I don't think anyone on this message board has suggested that complete
concerts are like that on this Buckingham McVie Tour.

Some are acting like you can't judge at all what the recordings devices are
capturing on this tour, as imperfect as these devices are. Even knowing the
limitations of the recording equipment used you can still hear for yourself
what I've written about in previous posts.

The only natural part about seeing a live show where the performers are
nearing seventy years old is knowing beforehand that they can't possibly
be as good as they were in the distant past. And in accepting that, I believe
one can still enjoy a performance all things considered.

Remember this is coming from someone who wishes success for them. I
wouldn't have the new CD and vinyl if I weren't a fan.

Boston Globe review of the Boston show: https://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2017/06/29/revitalized-buckingham-and-mcvie-connect-past-and-present/863coDmtCrllpiPzZB7lfO/story.html

A little more than halfway through Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie’s sparkling set on Wednesday night at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, Buckingham recounted the process that led him and his Fleetwood Mac bandmate to record their own album (“Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie,” which came out earlier this month). “More often than not,” he said, “it’s hard to regain the moment you once had.” But McVie, who took 15 years off from performing with Fleetwood Mac before returning to the fold in 2014, and Buckingham, who stuck with the band, wound up connecting because of their being on similar paths during their time apart — not “chasing the brand and painting themselves into a corner,” as Buckingham put it, but following their muses. (Or, to borrow a phrase, going their own ways.)

“Our individual journeys brought us back together in a surprising and beautiful way,” he said. The pair and their backing band then launched into “Love Is Here to Stay,” a chiming track from their new album that revels in the way the two vocalists’ timbres brush up against and play off one another — McVie has a lilting alto, while Buckingham’s voice is all angles, with an upper register that adds searing exclamation points to his more impassioned moments.

The opening segment of Wednesday’s show, during which Buckingham and McVie performed without accompaniment, put that push-pull front and center. The duo shifted the tempo of the glittering “Rumours” track “Never Going Back Again” ever so slightly, keeping the animating acoustic guitar line intact while implying hesitancy; “Wish You Were Here” was sighing yet resolute. The pair’s low-lit album, which splits its 10 tracks between Buckingham compositions and songs written by both, explores that tension even further; longing permeates the gently swaying, duo-penned “Feel About You,” while the windswept feel of Buckingham’s crystalline “In My World” echoes its lyrics about missed chances and lost opportunity. The new songs got the full-band treatment, and while at times the sound mix felt a little off, burying the Buckingham/McVie dynamic in overdriven backing vocals and massive drums, the slightly off-kilter pop sensibility of tracks like the shuffling “Sleeping Around the Corner” and the hushed “Lay Down for Free” still stood out.

Fleetwood Mac have been part of pop’s DNA for decades now, with tracks like the charging kiss-off “Go Your Own Way” and the lightly effervescent “You Make Loving Fun” inspiring scores of musicians on multiple levels, from vocal arrangements to guitar technique. Their influence still reverberates at pop’s highest echelons, as evidenced by the country’s current No. 1 album, Lorde’s “Melodrama”; her vocal style owes more to Buckingham’s than some might realize. But the gusto with which Buckingham and McVie approached the night animated both their new material and classic cuts like “Hold Me” and “Little Lies”; the menacing Mac cut “Tusk,” in particular, allowed Buckingham’s guitar heroism and all-in stage presence to shine. Buckingham and McVie are responsible for some of the last half-century’s best-known albums, but Wednesday night showed that neither is content to sit back and let familiarity do the heavy lifting.
