OMG OMG!!! This is the emotion (and production) that makes her amazing. This is TOP NOTCH Stevie. The lyrics are focused and the rhyme scheme is in tact... the vocal is tender and strong. the strings and haunting music are just sublime. 5 stars!!!!

WOW!!!

That was exquisite! GOOSEBUMPS!!!

There doesn't seem to be much information about this song. It's not on iTunes yet. Does anyone know if she wrote it? Doesn't seem her style. I'm wondering if someone else wrote it and asked her to sing it...or it could be a "co-write".

Regardless, it's beautiful. I adore the string section at the end. And this is one of the films I've been looking forward to the most this year. I'm thrilled to hear her voice in a brand new song for a major motion picture! :blob2:

At the end of the video it says it was written and produced by Ryan Miller and Thomas Bartlett, but performed by Stevie. They must have written it with her in mind because some of these lyrics are so her.

"Drowned in a thought and caught in a stare
Talking to ghosts who were not there..."

Google gave me a result on Thomas Bartlett, who is a musician and goes by the name "The Doveman," which seems appropriate, if it's the right guy.

Oh, please! Seriously? You think she has anything to do with that? Do you think she's really that hard up for attention?

Just an FYI - this movie was supposed to come out last year. According to Focus Features - "The Book of Henry was scheduled to be released on September 16, 2016, but Focus rescheduled its release to June 16, 2017, concluding that during the summer, the film release schedule will offer fewer adult-oriented films that might compete against The Book of Henry for older viewers."

The film comes out Friday. The fact that it comes a week after Buckingham McVie released their album is purely coincidental, and has everything to do with the studio and not Stevie.

I see your point but I guess if she the song was already written and the production was already figured out, then it probably took maybe 2 days for her to contribute her vocal and then leave.

There's people here so eager to jump on her. "Insulting" - give me a break. She didn't even write this dang song. She just sang it! Is it equally "insulting" if she sings Happy Birthday to a family member at a steak restaurant because she had time to do that but not record with Fleetwood Mac?
Give me a break.

Wow...that was unexpected.

She sounds absolutely fabulous, the song really suits her, her voice sounds the best in years

As much as I love BuckVie (and we all know it's Stevie fault she's not on the new Album).....you can just imagine some of her harmonies ....
Couldn't she just sing others compositions......

Oh Well...

Go Stevie. This is the type of production she has needed all these years, brings out the beauty of the voice and the mood. Such a contrast to the harsh flatness of BD and other efforts. I would give up a vital organ or two to see her do a full album like this.

Right??? She was probably asked by the songwriter and/or producer of the film to sing it. Probably took her a couple of hours. Big difference between THAT and spending months in a studio doing something you don't WANT to do. And let's face it, Stevie doesn't WANT to spend time in the studio with Fleetwood Mac right now. And THAT'S OKAY. It might suck for us (and I'm still hoping that one day she'll change her mind and record with them) but right now Stevie is "doing Stevie". People need to leave her alone and quit questioning EVERYTHING SHE DOES in her own life that doesn't involve Fleetwood Mac. The band started her career, but her career SHOULD NOT revolve around the band...especially after 42 freaking years...:sorry:

Consequently, these same people who slam her (I could list a dozen names and more on these forums ), her decisions, her song choices, etc ARE ALSO the FIRST people to sing her praises whenever she releases something new. It happened with IYD. It happened with 24KG. It happened with last years tour set. It happened with the BD and WH remasters with bonus content. It cracks me up to no end how people can be so wishy washy with her.

At least the haters in the Rumours forum (Homer, etc) are consistent with their hate and we can ignore them.:wavey:

What an incredible surprise! I like that it's sort of a departure for her production-wise but still contains an air of Stevie-mystery lyrically. And I don't know the technicalities of singing, but if she's singing in a different register or whatever it sure is a refreshing change. GO STEVIE!!

“I’m not really sure how to tell this story so lets start by not burying the lede:
STEVIE NICKS SANG A SONG I WROTE AND IT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE.
It’s sort of a windy tale so here’s a bullet point version if you want it! Strap in!
1) my buddy Colin Trevorrow asked me to write a song for Naomi Watts to sing in his movie The Book Of Henry (which she does, twice!)
2) I recorded a version of the song for the end credits with Thomas Bartlett
3) Colin asks who I think should sing it- “Stevie Nicks, der.”
4) 24 hours later: “Stevie is in”
5) Record the orchestral outro at abbey road in London with a 100-piece orchestra (nbd)
6) spend a night at a studio in LA hanging with STEVIE ****EN NICKS while she records her vocals
7) ask her to take a selfie at the end because I had to and because she is, without question, one of the coolest and most radical souls to ever visit planet earth
The movie premieres tomorrow and goes wide this weekend.
What an honor and joy and profound adventure.
Team Stevie till the end of time.” - Guster (Source: https://www.facebook.com/guster/)

lol well it's great that that's your opinion (heavy emphasis on it being your opinion) but she didn't even write the song and she certainly didn't produce it, so all you can credit her for is throwing in a nice vocal for a piece of work done by other people. i don't think there's a competition anyways but if there was, there certainly wasn't anyone "upstaged" by anyone else.

I agree. I do think it is great for her that people still want to collaborate with her when she is almost 70. I don't see that happening with anyone else her age besides Dolly but Dolly is country. Country musicians have more respect for their elders. Stevie is very unique for her age.

This new Stevie recording is promising - a wonderful, tender vocal and suitably atmospheric production. There are a couple of wobbly moments but overall, better than I would have expected from Stevie at this stage of her career. This vocal performance serves as a reminder that she could have really contributed to the latest Mac album.
With regard to Stevie potentially touring Australia later this year, I don't want her setting foot in my country. I'd prefer she stay home and retain what's left of her dignity. She's too old and shabby for the stage but potentially well suited to occasional studio work.

Stevie said she wanted two years off of Fleetwood Mac. I don't think it's any more or any less. They have been on and off like this for years. I don't see an issue here. She is doing what she wants to do during her years off. LB and CM wanted to do something. She did not stand in their way. She continues to do her own thing, which is she asked to be able to do. People are reading too much into things.

Once again the same few people are coming on here and acting like children, as they always do. If Stevie's (or any other celebrities) decisions on what to do with her own personal life make you feel insulted, offended, or personally hurt, then you have emotional problems that would be best talked about with a therapist. Maybe then you'll be able to have an adult conversation. Seriously. Stevie didn't want to give Fleetwood Mac a few more years of her life. GET OVER IT. Obviously the rest of Fleetwood Mac did. She also certainly didn't sing a vocal on a song someone else wrote for a film just to upstage Lindsey and Christine. That's conspiracy theory level thinking. Come down to earth please.

The UK show was announced back in 2016 (when I bought my ticket). It's a show supporting Tom Petty in Hyde Park in London (yess, finally after 28 years another Stevie solo show in my part of the world).

The movie looks intriguing. I'm going to see it this weekend. Let's not jump the gun though...if it's a crappy, forgettable film, then it's more than likely there will be no nominations, no matter how awesome the song is. If it's a great film, then it's certainly a possibility.

And Mike, you're right, the award would go to the writers...but wouldn't it be cool to see STEVIE FREAKIN' NICKS perform it live at the Oscars?:blob2:

Can someone get you a medal for this? It's mind boggling that all-encompassing camps exist on this forum at all. "I've been betrayed by Stevie", "I hate Lindsey", "THEY came over to OUR side of the forum" blahhhh. We're all fans of the same band and can agree that each member has their ups and downs.

THIS. It's hysterical the Stevie vs BM vs Lindsey vs whatever else that goes down here all the time. They're all a part of the biggest thing that is FLEETWOOD MAC! That's why I can always praise and criticize any single one of them without bias because in the end, my main "camp" is Fleetwood Mac.

Reminds me of a primarily Stevie blog I used to follow that posted lots of great pictures and things of Stevie, but for some reason, whoever was running it had this extreme Stevie bias and an almost comical reaction to anything that could have resembled criticism of her. I remember unfollowing after the BM album was first announced, they had this very weird response like "I'm a Stevie fan so all I care about is Stevie's solo career". And I'm sure you could find things like that on Lindsey and/or Christine fanpages. It's hilarious.

"With regard to Stevie potentially touring Australia later this year, I don't want her setting foot in my country. I'd prefer she stay home and retain what's left of her dignity. She's too old and shabby for the stage but potentially well suited to occasional studio work.

Ooooh you are funny...
My Ipad was playing up when I read this, so couldn't get my reply in
But I laughed so much I had a coughing fit....

Poor woman being "old and shabby" and put out to the grass of studio work only.....hahahaha.
Put your wooden spoon away, you bad boy!!!

An Academy Award for best song in a motion picture is actually a possibility. BTW where are people seeing the soundtrack for sale? I can't find it on amazon.

lol that is even less likely to happen than the BM album winning a grammy. not with this random, 24% on rotten tomatoes movies.

A song can still be good even if the movie it's featured in sucks. Wasn't Endless Love nominated for an Oscar? But the movie was panned. There are literally hundreds of examples... including Christine McVie singing Can't Help Falling in Love, from the appropriately named movie A Fine Mess, starring the great thespian Howie Mandel lol!

What a surprise! She sounds great (and looks SENSATIONAL in the writer's selfie, especially for someone so old and shabby), and I think there are parts of the song that sound very much like one of hers.

:) Stevie got some air time promoting this new song on channel 9 this morning, with positive reviews.. They didn't mention a solo tour here in OZ, but FM will be back sometime in the future.

I really want to see her solo again! I'm putting off booking a holiday in October in case she wasn't talking out of her hat and really does tour then

Those hundreds of examples of nice songs from crappy movies like Christine's cover of Can't Help Falling in Love were not given Oscars or anything close to it.
And yes, Endless Love was nominated for an Oscar, in spite of coming from a crappy movie. But Endless Love was written and produced by LIONEL RITCHIE, performed by him and the great Diana Ross during the prime of their careers and is often considered the greatest duet ever. A pretty, but ultimately throwaway to most people, song performed by Stevie Nicks over 30 years after the prime of her career that she did not even write and obviously did not produce, on the soundtrack of a flop movie is not going to be winning any awards.
Look at all the songs that have won the past couple of years: two of the James Bond songs, Glory from Selma, the song from La La Land, even Let it Go from Frozen. All from huge, huge, critically acclaimed movies that were nominated for many awards.

**I don't mean to be a negative nellie, but for anyone honestly hopeful that she might be nominated or something, don't be because odds are she won't.

Yes I do agree, which is exactly why I said she stands even less chance of winning an Oscar than BM does of winning a Grammy (unless it's in some super miniscure category but even then). Hence meaning I don't think these days they stand much of a chance.
And I love Stevie but I'd never place her in the same tier as Elton John.

Like I said before, you very clearly have a Stevie favoritism that shows in just about everything you post.

I don't though. I really don't have a favoritism towards anyone. I'm not sure why you think that. Maybe you think that being open to critiquing Stevie and expressing when I get annoyed with her just as much as praising her means favoring others but it doesn't at least not for me. I can critique any of them and praise them just the same. I don't feel the great need to rush to any particular person's defense unless there's a worthy point to be made. Hence why I said Stevie isn't winning an Oscar and BM isn't winning a Grammy either.

But either way I'm tired of having this argument, we've had an exchange about this identical topic before and clearly not seeing eye to eye and that's fine. But then please stop responding to my posts and reiterating what I've said to try and make it seem as if I just hate Stevie and love Lindsey and Christine when that's far from the case. Have a nice day.

It doesn't look like the film is going to win any awards with a 24% critical consensus rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But 70% of audiences liked it, maybe because they were all Stevie fans, who only went for her song!

I think the song could win based on the fact that Stevie seems to have been on an upswing for sometime as far as popularity with the media. I feel like the time is right-like the song might win based on the fact Stevie really hasn't won that many awards and it would almost be like a "lifetime achievement" award. I know the award is for the writer, but Stevie's name could bring them the win.

While we are on the topic, does anyone know when this will be available on iTunes without having to buy the whole stupid soundtrack?

And as a side note, they obviously did this because they thought enough people would buy the whole soundtrack to make it pay off not to offer Stevie's song separately. Did any of you buy the whole soundtrack???

I bought the entire soundtrack from iTunes upon release since I wanted to have "Your Hand..." in reasonable quality. I have searched since for a cd copy but one doesn't appear to have been released.
Stevie's vocal performance on this track is stellar and the production impressive, but ultimately some of the lyrics let the song down. Strangely enough, the lyrics oscillate from insightful to cringe-worthy and in my opinion, could have easily been written by Stevie herself.
With regard to the song scoring an Oscar nomination, I view it as possible since none of the contenders seem to have been noteworthy hits but I doubt it could actually win. A strong performance at the ceremony would do wonders for her image but if she actually won, well her ego would be exponentially bolstered. The stuff of nightmares...

Even if this song got an Oscar nomination, which I guarantee you, is not going to happen, but if it did the award would not go to Stevie. Oscar for best original song goes to the writers.

Phil

That is true, as Stevie did not contribute to the writing of the song, she would not technically be nominated nor could 'she' win an Oscar, but there's no doubt she would attempt to take credit for a potential nomination/win. She'd get her mug in at every opportunity and capitalise on any available hype - if she could parlay an opportunity into dollars, she wouldn't hesitate.
