Portion of the interview and some rehearsal performances. You can hear them performing Too Far Gone way in the background while the reporter does the intro.
They do SATC and That's How I Feel in the portion they show. Like on Fallon, Christine seems to be barely playing if at all on BOTH of these songs (her hands are resting on the keys during That's How I Feel but it looks like Brett is doing most of the playing). Wassup widdat???
Is it me or does Christine's face kind of tighten up or something when Lindsey jumps in to answer the "was it supposed to be a FM album?" question with "oh no it was never a FM album"?? (Speaking of her appearance, it does seem like she's stopped with the overdone fillers and is back to her more natural, age-appropriate face. Good!!)

I don't know why she's not playing the keys. It's disappointing. Seriously. Even if she isn't playing on the studio version, she could easily play some two handed chords while singing. But she's simply not. They keyboard is a prop. She did some of this during the On with the Show tour, but I didn't think it would persist. Not sure what the issue is.

Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie release first duet album
Comment Share Tweet Stumble Email
Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer Christine McVie are joining forces for their first duet album.
The record, out Friday, is called "Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie."
Fleetwood Mac's 1970s hit "Don't Stop" from the album "Rumours" topped the charts for 31 straight weeks, but the band has always been known as a bit of a musical soap opera, reports CBS News' Anthony Mason.
McVie was married to bassist John McVie, and Buckingham lived with Stevie Nicks.
Both couples broke up, but somehow the band survived. Now, for the first time, Buckingham and McVie have teamed up musically.
"There's been a lot of drama among members of Fleetwood Mac," Mason said.
"Oh, you could say that," Buckingham said.
But Buckingham and McVie have never had drama between themselves.
"Not yet," Buckingham joked. The two began working on new songs together when she rejoined Fleetwood Mac after a long absence in 2014. Bandmates John McVie and Mick Fleetwood provide much of the rhythm section on Buckingham-McVie's debut duet album, which makes it an almost-Fleetwood Mac record. Everybody's on the album except Nicks, which had some people wondering if it started as a Fleetwood Mac album.
"No, it didn't really. There was no idea of saying, 'Oh we're trying to make a Fleetwood Mac album.' It was just, 'Let's get together and have some fun with this.' But as I said, it only took about a week for us to start to get a little territorial about it maybe being a duet album," Buckingham said.
Last month, they took over Sound Stage 22 on the Sony lot in Los Angeles to begin rehearsing for a summer tour.
McVie has been singing harmonies with Buckingham since he first joined Fleetwood Mac back in 1975 with his then-girlfriend Nicks.
lindsey-buckingham-christine-mcvie-cover-art.jpg
"It was with Stevie and John, and it was a little studio somewhere," McVie said of the first time she and Buckingham sang together. "I was playing 'Say You Love Me.' And you and Stevie chirped in with fantastic background vocals. And we just all sat, I mean I sat there with goosebumps. I could not believe it."
They'd form the classic lineup of Fleetwood Mac. Their first album together went to number one. Their second, "Rumours," would sell more than 40 million copies.
But in 1998, tired of the travel and the feuding, McVie quit the band and moved to the English countryside, where she'd stay for 16 years.
"And it was OK for a few years, and then I just became quite isolated really," McVie said.
McVie did do a solo album during that time.
"How could I forget? In my garage, we call it 'the dirge' album. Cause I was in a dark space then," she said.
"Did you decide that you're not really a solo artist after all?" Mason asked.
"I know I'm not," she said. "I'm not."
McVie took her first tentative steps back into Fleetwood Mac in 2013, when Fleetwood invited her to join them for one gig at London's 02 Arena, a reunion captured on fans' cellphone video.
"He said, 'Why don't you just come on and do "Don't Stop" with us?' So that's, that's in the end what I did," she said. "And looking around at these other four individuals - it was just a mind-blowing experience."
Right away, she knew she wanted to go back.
"There is nothing like this extended family that is Fleetwood Mac. And I think you have to say, for all the perceived and real dysfunction that there has been, underneath that, there is and always has been a great deal of love. And that keeps pulling us back together," Buckingham said.
The Buckingham-McVie tour opens in Atlanta June 21 and runs through July.
Watch "CBS This Morning: Saturday" for the duo's Saturday Sessions performance and for more of Mason's interview.

I was surprised at how much this performance of In My World mirrored their performance on the Tonight Show. It was pretty much exactly the same, sad to say. Poor Christine, drowned out by the two guys singing backup, and she didn't even bother to pretend playing keyboards this time, letting her hand simply rest on the keys. And it sure looked like Lindsey was lip syncing at the end of the song. Love is Here to Say seemed an uninspired choice, too. At least we could hear Christine, though.
The interview was fantastic!
I just watched this on tv. The interview was a little different: a quick recap of how Chris joined FM then Stevie and Lindsey joining. I didn't hear anything about how this album came to fruition (unless I missed something but I don't think so). They played IMW and Love is here to stay. LIHTS is better live in my opinion although I love both songs.
Weird that Chris isn't playing much/at all. Remember during OWTS she injured her R hand and wore a black splint/brace for a bit. In this clip she's not doing much with her L hand tho.

It is airing now on the west coast. They just showed the interview and the performance of IMW. As noted by others here, it is almost identical to the Fallon performance-- in all the wrong ways. It feels like Christine is there as a prop to a solo LB performance. WTF?
They were in the middle of doing How I Feel About You live when they came back from a commercial, and we saw them play for maybe 30 seconds, and then it went back to another commercial. ??? But they were doing it live in the tv studio. Christine sounded a bit off key but it sounded way more live than most of IMW.
I'm waiting to see them do their next song. If it is Love is Here to Stay then I'm really bummed--- why not do one song of his and one song of hers where we can actually hear them?
I'm also kinda befuddled by their interaction-- they display very little to no chemistry or interaction while performing-- no exchanges of looks or whatever like when they play together in FM. Will this change as they warm up with more shows??? I sure do hope so.
Yep it's LIHTS. You're right....she's a BIT more audible on this one........ Again, though, little chemistry. He just looks straight ahead.
Good point about their lack of interaction. Normally they are smiling and nodding to each other. I felt so much joy in watching them interact during OWTS; like they were affirming and encouraging each other.
On a side note my SO who is not a FM fan but has been dealing w/me for years just said "I listened to a few songs and the production's really good on this!" My response "of course, it's Lindsey Buckingham" with the proper amount of indignation.

True, they didn't talk about how the new album came to be, but I think that was a good thing- I don't think the fans want to hear Lindsey feign surprise that people think this is a Fleetwood Mac album, just without Stevie, and is not really a duets album at all.
What I liked about the interview was the background on Christine McVie- of the three songwriters in FM, she's the one usually left out of the limelight. Not this time, though.

Agree about Chris. Maybe they decided to just focus on the music rather than keep explaining the FM/Not FM thing. Works for me--On With The Show!

What the heck is going on with her left hand?? Except for a brief moment on this song, it never touches the keys on any of the performances.....and though her right hand rests on the keyboard, it doesn't really do anything either. For a professional piano player that's just messed up. Like if Lindsey just stood there holding a guitar but never fingered the fretboard or ever strummed or pretended to strum the strings.....?!
Interesting Brett and Neale played the signature bits of How I Feel About You

just listen to that full FAY and you'll have your answer - she gets nervous and seems to always be off key in live tv perforamances, which is too bad.
they both seemed really nervous at both shows - NBC and CBS one. Lindsey looked extremely focused (that's why you don't get their normal interaction which again is too bad).
after so many years of following this band, you know better than to doubt they'll be completely different at the shows - tehy allways are, and always playing off each other and interacting.

You're quite right, they both looked pretty nervous - Lindsey had his thousand-yard stare going on... Obviously miming to pretty much everything except some guitar solo notes - the acoustic guitar part on Love Is Here To Stay stood out in particular as mimed.
But I can't really blame them - Christine in particular hasn't done this sort of thing for years; in fact, I can't remember when she will have done a live-sung appearance on live TV before. I don't really care about the pre recorded stuff on live tv. I get it. It's not easy to sound good live with the nerves etc... I would rather some stuff be pre recorded and it sound great so people will buy the record. I mean it's hard to sound good live at 25 nevermind in your 70's.

After watching these clips, I understand a little more about where each of these performers is at this time.
Christine clearly has elected not to play the keys, except in an occasional vamp. She appears to want to concentrate on getting her vocal right. Okay. And yet she also seems to need the keyboard in front of her because it gives her comfort. I wonder why she wouldn't have gone with an array of percussion instruments so that her hands had something to do.
Lindsey has more energy but he too seems a bit unsteady--hence the need for pre-recorded backing tracks.
Of all of these performances, I think "Feel About You" is the most honest about their live capabilities.

It does lead the reporter to say that "Lindsey Buckingham gave up his own band" to join.... Wonder how Steph feels about that.

i just wished they weren't seemingly so nervous and worried about it all - i just wanna hug them and tell them just do your live thing, you guys have amazing chemistry that completely doesn't come through in these strained performances :xoxo:!!
(and if Chris needs autotune for tv performances, just do it! Taylor Swift has learned that lesson long time ago.)
i really hope the tour promtion is kicking into gear now - people deserve to hear them! and i see lots of comments on all these pages discussing their new album from people completely unaware that they are actually touring this summer! :(

I'm a bit disappointed by LIHTS because so much sounds pre-recorded. The fact that Lindsey miming some (all?) of the guitar is very disappointing because it isn't that difficult to play. I get the nerves thing but, as others have mentioned, I imagine he will use it the whole tour. I hope he doesn't.
Vocally, he is still good. Christine isn't as good but I have no complaints.
That said, I'm glad they chose to do this song. It's a great song and deserves to be heard. Now they need to do Red Sun. That's the hit on this album.

i would be completely shocked if he doesn't actually play guitar on LIHTS live on tour, that makes zero sense. how many times in their heyday did FM mime in their prerecorded videos? what is he gonna do, just sing the song at the live show? he didn't mime RAB or Red Rover or BTLH, why in the world would we expect he'd not actually play guitar on this song live?
i love the song on the album so much, maybe too much, so i was actually slightly dissapointed when i heard it live on CBS.... it was just ok to me, not etheral like i wexpected. but i'm excited we'll now for sure get to hear it at the live shows! :blob2::]
they will play Red Sun on the tour. it is painfully obvious that for some reason Chris chokes up on tv shows, and if they do that one they need to add autotune to their backing track trickery.

That's exactly why I don't understand why he didn't play it live here. He did Shut Us Down live on TV and it is a more difficult piece to play. I don't doubt that he could play it just as well as anything else, that's why it was weird to mime it at all. I hope it was just because it was TV and they were striving for some unobtainable perfection. Songs like IOOT and SAB just wouldn't have been the same on the SWS tour if he'd mimed.
And Lindsey is terrible at miming, both guitar and voice. He looks so uncomfortable when he does it. It's like he has to concentrate more on miming passably than if he was actually play.

That would be very disappointing.
LIHTS was flat. Christine looks very uncomfortable, one hand on keyboard for some reason. And her vocals just aren't that good, it's so low in the mix on purpose. Lots of prerecorded tracks, Lindsey definitely not playing guitar.
And FAY. Christine again not playing the keyboard riff. Give her something to shake. Mimed vocals everywhere.
And why is Neale Heywood stuck behind a massive billboard.
Why do they look so damn unhappy to be performing together, after that amazing video?

I am disturbed by some of the comments here. Christine and Lindsey are rocks star professionals who have played before millions of people over the past 4 decades. Yes the TV stuff was mostly pre-recorded like most bands today. Even the Mac sung to a pre-recorded track on Don't Stop in 1993 on live TV. I would not be so upset about this. They will be singing and performing live. Why would they go on tour and do something they have never done before........not play live.

On the Songs from the Small Machine Blu-ray I have Lindsey has plenty of prerecorded tracks. I don't expect their live concerts to be much different in terms of live arrangement. Maybe their performances will be better though with more energy.

I'd like to see one of the shows, especially because the venues are small and intimate (as intimate as a pop concert can be, I suppose), and I no longer enjoy the arena experience.
I think all these songs (those I've heard) are very pleasant, very mature (in a good sense): lots of filigree orchestration that Fleetwood Mac is known for and does better than anybody else, Brian Wilsonesque choruses with the multilayered vocals soaring atop the expanse, and so on. But dare I say that there's something missing in them? Robustness? Some quality that would make some of these tracks classics, like "Second Hand News" or "Tusk" or "Hold Me"? The album gives me the impression of a soundtrack--the backdrop to something else--rather than something front and center. Consequently, I think the emotional landscape is lightweight here. The strength of the album's maturity might work against the experience, too? The songwriters aren't conflicted or angst-ridden anymore--or falling in and out of love with a string of partners--so their love songs (and they don't write anything else) fizz attractively like champagne for a bit and then go flat. The next track wipes out the effect of the previous track; nothing resonates for very long.
I think Stevie's presence in this body of songs might have provided the missing element that it usually does to Fleetwood Mac albums: that agitated, throw-it-all-away-for-something (love, pride, ego) quality that permeates classic Fleetwood material (think "Sara").

so good to hear from you David! :wavey:
glad to see what you wrote, since you actually understand music so much better than most of us - i think it's right on. songs are nice, pleasant, but lightweight for LB, and very shallow and lazy lyric-wise. while LB had some amazing lyrics in the last 2 decades or so, there's none of it here... only lyrics he really has here are really his frustration with the *band politics* and that only goes so far.
i agree that SN would bring in the degree of drama and angst, but there are other more mature ways to add some depth, especially to the lyrics: people their age have a lot of life experience to write about, as LB did on both Seeds and GOS. i miss his deeper lyrics, i miss his punkish rockers, and i miss some new and unexpected twist that LB usually brings to the projects.
however for a FM album and some mellow summer listening in these turbulent crazy times, i find this album calming, easy to listen all the way through without having to skip anything, and i love actually having majority of these songs. it's just i would love them even more if they were interspersed with some much stronger and off-the-center material.

oh i wish they were small and intimate. i hate it that they mostly went with sheds. i want Warner Theatre. i want Beacon. i don't want sheds.

I've been thinking about it and I have a feeling that the canned music will still be present during the tour. The CBS show mixing wasn't the best obviously so I think that the canned vocals will be turned down quite a bit and be more subtle.

It's harder to detect when heard live. I've made board bootlegs before, and the tracks seemed far louder on "tape" than what you heard from the P.A.
