After she said she doesn't see a Mac album happening again I wish they had hit her with a follow up question to ask if she feels the same way about recording solo. It would have been interesting to hear the answer in light of all the "music business just isn't the same, so no point in making any new records" stuff.

I don't always agree with some of her choices, but Stevie never fails to inspire me, particularly on her perspective and attitude on getting older. It's exactly what I needed to hear today. She remains an inspiration to me, even after all these years. "Hit the stage...dancin'..."

Joan of Arc” demo, a song Nicks wrote inspired by primatologist Jane Goodall, but she pulled it off the disc last year. “I still want to record it,” she explained. “The song has its really good moments but it’s not good enough to go out as that version.”
why ? and for a solo record if a MAC record won't sell why waste time on a solo record ?
i'll just assume it's "things Stevie said " no new record , i'm filming my show , i am doing alternative setlist , secret shows , etcetera, etcetera, etcetera

yup, it's a total double standard. When discussing IYD she said she didn't care if it didn't sell, she was making it for herself. And now suddenly the issue of sales is relevant again? She's not recording with FM because she doesn't want to make a record with Lindsey. I think it's that simple.

I always choose to think that when she now talks about making touring money with Fleetwood Mac, she is speaking as someone who wants to make sure that Mick and John are getting fresh cash in their piggy banks every few years. I think it's now only out of a sense of loyalty and care for John and Mick that she would even consider another 135 shows at 70 years of age. Fire away.

I think this is very true, but it's not just for Mick and John. You have to remember that both Stevie and Fleetwood Mac are the employers of a large group of people. Sharon and Lori (or Marilyn this time around), Waddy, Stevie's makeup and wardrobe people, the roadies, the tour managers, etc., on down the line. For some of these people it's their only career and only chance to make money. Not Waddy, he plays with everyone, but someone like Sharon doesn't. Then let's also remember that Mick has gone bankrupt at least twice. So making a lot of money is never just for her.

actually Sharon has had a very successful run as a backup singer/studio singer for lots of people besides Stevie. I recall an article once naming some of the people and Mick Jagger was one..
I think if she meant supporting her employees or other band members she'd have said that.
I'm sorry but I don't think she is worried about helping Mick and John. I have loved this woman since the 70s but I think that's optimistic.:sorry: Can I prove it? No.
She works hard, too hard to meet up with old friends do do dinner or have a drink or coffee? Really? I'm not buying that. She does a lot of socializing before and after shows.... they could easily come backstage or whatever even for a half hour or something. She "hangs out" with her own entourage. I get that she's almost 70 and clearly touring is more exhausting than ever. I just think she's gotten so into this routine of work, work work, and doesn't have the same personal commitments when she's off the road to kids, family, cleaning the house, whatever that her entourage has that when they get home off the road, those people all go off and have major things to do. She doesn't. So she gets bored or whatever.
Remember the "I want to sit in my trailer in Malibu that I bought but have never spent time in coz FM toured so long?" Yeah, that never happened. She could be doing that NOW. Instead, she's touring. And extending her tour. wtf.
She sounds like she's still bitter about not getting a break because Chris came back.
She wants out of FM but she doesn't have the guts to say it. This irritates me to no end. I hope (even though it's not likely) the Lindsey/Chris thing does really well now.

I agree with many things you said but actually in one of the recent interviews Stevie mentioned being preoccupied in the past about what would happen to her employees if she did stop working.
I don't think it's the only nor the main reason, but I think she does think about her employees too.

You have a right to be confused but Stevie logic is not logic
She says "if the music industry was different" maybe she would have contributed to another Mac album.
That makes no sense. By her logic she should have never done In Your Dreams and 24K gold. But she did them, they are her least successful albums but she is extremely proud of them and says its some of the best music she has ever done.

Yeah and then those albums didn't sell which I doubt put her in a good mood. What happened to Dave Stewart anyways? I saw someone point it out, what happened to him? She raved and raved about how working with him was the best thing that ever happened to her, best year of her life, she only wants to have him produce etc etc. He always tweeted updates on her and everything and now what happened?
I think some people are too far up Stevie's ass. And anyone who thinks she doesn't really care about records selling is delusional. That plays a huge role in her not having motivation. Her whole attitude towards the music industry now is very cynical. She even said she doesn't write as many songs anymore. All those things coming together just made her lose interest in a desire to actually create something new. She needs to stop blaming everything on everything and everyone else and just say that in the end, it all comes down to her. How she's looking at everything, how she's perceiving everything.

I took that comment to mean she's out of the loop with the band, since she's been focused on her tour since before September. But I can also see your interpretation that since Christine had 16 years away, she was confused why they couldn't give her 2 years to do her thing.

I have a question about the cost of them recording a CD. Would FM pay for any of that? Do they risk anything by making a CD that doesn't sell? I'm assuming that the studio would pay for it, with a clause that they would have to make a certain amount back either in CD sales or subsequent concert sales. Is that right? It seems like the claim that making a CD is financially risky isn't accurate, or maybe I just don't know.

I've said it over on the Rumours forum but the solution to all of this is to record The Dance 2. New music contributed from the songwriters + the hits that everyone loves and it costs hardly anything to record because they'd do it live! This would sell well and it means that Stevie doesn't have to go in to the studio. Problem sorted.

I agree with your post....but I think for many of the long time stevie fans there is a level of disappointment in many of her comments....and as the years go by the "wtf stevie?" moments have become more and more frequent. I personally am very disappointed in her when I see her being UNGRATEFUL. Throwing pot shots at her family time, at her fans (to state hey lets just make lots of money and offer nothing new) , showing her greed (money money money) and insulting women who choose to grow old gracefully (there are men and women who are comfortable with their white hair! It is not a matter of trying). Not everyone has the Hollywood mentally of "I need to look 35 when I am 70". At the very least....dont say these things out loud. Ok to think them...but dont say them....you look ungrateful.
My advice comes from a very honest place in my heart. I am not some negative, envious fan. I do not have white hair, I make great money, I do not look my age. I am simply a fan who is disappointed in the face behind the mask....because I am realizing how very unhappy she really is....and that is sad.
This article, like so many in recent years just shows a side of Stevie that disenchants me as a fan.....I still love the music, but the "person" leaves nothing left to be desired.

Stevie's comments about the Fleetwood Mac and the reasons why she won't do it, have really let me let her go. I don't think of her the same way. I'm not that big of a fan anymore. She just comes off as a career networking has-been, who loves money.

As much as I love Stevie and I have been a fan since 1975, it frustrates me that she only wants to tour with FM. She complained about missing Christine, and now she is back. The whole band would love to record, but not Stevie. Fine, then quit the group. If you are staying to make money for John and Mick, don't. They have been in the business forever. They should have lots of money. Mick could never manage money, but seems to be doing better now with his restaurant in Hawaii.
And if you hate Lindsey so much, then quit flirting on stage. I don't want to see a fake romance.

Ryan Murphy. I've seen the pilot and I found it awesome, I hope Susan Sarandon will become a staple in his works. Also I've seen next season will be centered around Charles and Diana.
I'm not sure about how it would work a season about Lindsey and Stevie, even if Stevie is friends with Murphy I doubt she'd be collaborative and it could turn out very imprecise; Murphy likes to base himself on big reliable biographies for his last series (Feud and American Crime Story), and there still isn't such a book for Stevie or Lindsey. Unless he doesn't use one of Mick's books, then it could come out something more collective like Feud: Fleetwood Mac. I guess we found a good compromise instead of a FM biopic...

Well given I HAVE been a mental patient in hospital, I have zero empathy as I own my illness, take my meds and see my Doctor and listen to her advice even if I don't always agree
Not to be critical of your experience, secretlove, but I think Stevie's point in the interview was if she had listened to her doctor, she would have ended up dead. Clearly, Stevie was right to quit seeing him!
I work in mental health, and I know Klonopin can be a helpful and effective med; like any meds, however, there are side effects and a chance for addiction.

Probably Stevie says holidays are hard because she's at that point in life in which she has lost both of her parents and also she's lost her mother exactly during the Christmas period just a few years ago.
I also lost many relatives and a few years ago my sister was hospitalized in the Christmas period for very severe reasons, and I honestly say that while Christmas is still Christmas, it's always very bittersweet to me because of the memories. There are things that you can move on from but you don't and can't forget.

speaking from personal experience ( not a secret there is a tread in Chit Chat ) myself and others here would advise you to rethink that
and she has the right to be pi$$ed about that she was taken advantaged of by a medical professional ,and over prescribed medication .. which is a serious issue in the united states , and until you have had that experience you( anyone in general not you personally ) can not comprehend it , that someone you trusted to Help Manage your Heath betrayed you for personal and or monetary gains

I'm in the mental field myself and I agree with you, I am slightly shocked at some comments here.
The relationship between therapist and patient isn't equal, from the moment you start seeing a therapist you put yourself in his or her care and the doctor has an ethical duty towards your treatment. The therapeutic relationship requires trust on one part and competence on the other, and the therapist has on the patient a strong psychological authority because he or she is supposed to be the "expert" and carer, and not many of us would be able to break it. Those who say that it's Stevie's fault that she took the meds he prescribed her, are ignorantly wrong.
Personally I think the doctor Stevie was seeing was one of those psychiatrists who rely too much on meds instead of a wholesome comprensive therapy, there are sadly many of them especially in the US where it's more spread a conception of mental illness that is more fisiological than psicodinamic.

You hit the nail on the head!

I would only add that if you think making new music with today's music industry is fruitless then stop making solo albums.
I do feel bad about the Klonopin era. I believe her that her friends and managers talked her into seeing the doctor. They had good reasons for how scary and out of control she was. However, at some point you need to take responsibility for your own actions. Its impossible for me to believe after years on klonopin and becoming a zombie those closest around did not persuade her to seek help. This is never talked about. Once someone asked Rick Vito and he refused to comment. It was only after she fell over and cracked her head into a fireplace that this "come to God" moment came to her and her friends that she get off this drug.

I agree with olive and sisternightroad. I also think we need to remember some doctors seem to enjoy their power over celebrities. Just look at Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, for starters. I think Stevie sees herself as an advocate against Klonopin, and I wouldn't blame her, after her experience. However, I would blame her doctor more than the medication, in her case. Frightening.

Probably for the same reasons no one intervened when she was doing cocaine *ahem*. The problem in this case is, it sounds like Stevie was taking the Klonopin as prescribed, but her doctor had her over medicated, so she wasn't actually misusing them. In other words, she wasn't getting them off the street, stealing from others, doctor shopping, etc. Her family and friends surely thought the doctor was legitimate and who are they to say a doctor is wrong? Also, they could have thought Stevie was depressed, not over medicated. The old adage is true, a person has to acknowledge there's a problem first before they can get any help.

Having several addicts in my own family, I can say that the fault lies with the doctors and pharmacists, but mostly with the addict. The addict MUST want to get clean for themselves, otherwise any rehab efforts are fruitless.
I'm just glad Stevie chose to get clean.

Stevie felt "forced" to go into rehab for cocaine addiction. She tells a different story today but I remember the headlines from 1986 and 1987. After the RAL tour her management company pretty much did force her to go into rehab. Of course anyone that cared for her also agreed.
The following facts sometimes get forgotten:
Stevie left the Betty Ford clinic early. She did not stay 30 days and after 28 days left early and called the place "really stupid"
Stevie was so upset with her management company that the first thing she did leaving rehab was to fire her management company.
In the song "Welcome to the Room Sara" She mentions both of these things.
"Did I come here on my own" - She is questioning herself being there and it was not her decision
"Of course it was a problem - Frontline" Referring to Frontline management who got her into rehab
Her experience was so bad that she named another song "Escape from Berlin" - she hints that she "escaped" and left before the treatment ended. Another line "I did not win or lose, I just threw the cards" - implies like a spoiled child at a game, she threw the cards and left early.
So I would have to disagree with your point that no one intervened with Stevie's addiction. To the contrary so many intervened that she got pissed. Maybe that is why people did not intervene again. They feared her wrath. But with the condition she was in, I am shocked. that many did not beg her to get clean. Addicts are confronted so many times before agreeing to get help. Its also very common for addicts to replace one drug for another. Maybe if she would not have "escaped" from rehab and stayed longer she would have picked up a few more valuable lessons in life.

I actually agree with pretty much everything you said, at least in general. I didn't know she had left rehab early, but it does sound like she's been off cocaine since then, regardless. As far as intervening, that was my poor attempt to suggest that maybe friends or family in her life didn't call her out about her cocaine use because they were likely doing it right along with her, just perhaps not to the degree she was. Could you imagine Judy Garland accusing Elvis Presley of being an addict, for example?
As far as Stevie's feelings about the way the actual intervention was handled, I think it's understandable. Frontline's intervention took place after her tour, not before or during. Why? They wanted the income from that tour first! If her health and well being had truly been first and foremost on their minds, they would have done an intervention sooner, and I'm sure Stevie thinks that, too. Yes, an intervention was needed, and it did work, but I can see why Stevie fired Frontline for the way they handled it.
And I'm sure Stevie hated rehab. I've never met anyone who claimed to enjoy it. But I've read other interviews where she said it helped her get off cocaine, which is the most positive thing one can say about rehab.

Frontline management was the same company that caused such an issue with the David Letterman show on NBC. And nobody there would admit to doing so. Bottom line, Stevie fired them, and stayed off the coke and became productive and all was good. We were not there. No reason to speculate what she went through or dealt with as she kicked cocaine and eventually kicked Klonopin.

actually the way she always tells it is that she went to the dr about her nose and he told her about the hole and that "the next time you do coke that could be the end" and she says "I had to go on tour knowing that. But you can't quit before a big tour so I had to go out on the road and be as careful as I could" while still doing coke before going to rehab...
She also has said forever that she hates being told what to do (and even says that's why her mother always told her she would need to be the boss whatever work she did) and Frontline , in her eyes, pushed her into rehab. And she hated the idea that it wasn't her choice; they did an intervention. She takes all the credit for it now, but......had they not, she wouldn't have been able to stop she was too addicted. Petty states that he worried about her a lot and that if he'd gotten the call that said she was dead he would honestly not have been surprised.

Doing the best that I can (escape from Berlin) is one of my favorite songs of all time. Its so deeply personal and incredibly inspirational. Yes she hated rehab and left but "she's doing fine...she's doing the best that she can." She grabbed the wheel and found her inner strength.
The aka name of the song always floored me. Stevie never beat around the bush. Escaping from Berlin was probably the most daring feat in the world. The watch tower guards shot and killed anyone even attempting to climb the wall, swim across the water, or any attempt at escape.

She's a pretty strong person, regardless. I have seen plenty of people who have never been able to kick an addiction for good. Unless you have been through an addiction personally ( I have), it's easier to talk **** about how easy it is or how one should handle it etc. You have to really want it, regardless of who intervenes or gets you to recognize the problem.

So your definition of an artist, a musical one, is just that of someone who's currently recording and not at all interested in commerce? The reason I ask is that if you've seen Stevie's new tour, do you not consider that art? The whole process behind her tour and her onstage performace are nothing but art at its finest, and the way she's been singing her songs and telling the stories that made them up is a perfect demonstration of that.
I understand if you don't feel the same way that I do, but the way I see it, in addition to writing beautiful songs and performing them well, charisma and ability to engage audiences are also some of the many definitions of a true artist. For me, Stevie is an artist in every sense of the word.

As for this current show mind blowing I cannot describe how it made me feel after all these years to see and hear her do it she should have been doing 20- 30 years ago.. but I think some of those are frustrated she's just going to Coast on this for as long as she can and not create some really great new music for us and herself

Yes Danielle!
I appreciate your thoughts Danielle and of course, your opinion is a valid one, just as all of ours are. In terms of artistic integrity, yes I believe Stevie has rendered herself creatively redundant in recent times, seemingly by design. I have seen her in concert many times, with and without Fleetwood Mac, but I no longer consider her to be a viable live act, performance-wise. I realise she can still pull a crowd and belt out her back catalogue but from my perspective, all subtlety and nuance (both of which are important to me) left her many a year ago. I concede that many seem to enjoy her foghorn approach but I am not one of them. I must also say that I am not enamoured of her ‘storytelling’ between songs these days – I consider these inarticulate rantings to be self-congratulatory and annoying in the extreme. For me, this distracts from her (admittedly mediocre) performance, sufficiently so that I am no longer willing to attend her shows. Just my opinion mind.
Having said that, I acknowledge Stevie’s right to make her own decisions and concede she has more than paid her dues over the years. I also accept that she no longer wishes to record with Fleetwood Mac, but I would prefer she be honest about her motivations. Her statements in the press regarding this matter have been inconsistent and bordering on churlishness. If she were to record again, in any capacity, I would support such endeavours just as I always have, even if they weren’t on a par with her finest work. However, my expectations of Stevie are not what they once were, largely informed by her arrogance and mercenary stance of late.
Danielle

Phil, I don't agree with your opinions on Stevie at all, but that's not the reason I replied to your comment in the first place; it's saying Stevie is not an artist and saying she lost artistic integrity that puzzle me. I may be wrong, but artistic integrity has a lot to do with doing what you want with your art, being true to it... Her tour and storytelling are exactly that. It may be an art expression you don't appreciate (and I know you don’t), but it's still art.
Danielle, we obviously have differing perspectives on Stevie as she stands these days. It is my opinion that she is simply in it for the money (while it lasts) at this point and no longer possesses any semblance of creativity. If it wasn't obvious from the current cabaret show then look no further than the most recent spate of interviews wherein she references her money-making objectives.

I understand it's your opinion and I'll leave it alone, my whole point is that even if she were in it just for the money (which I absolutely don't believe) and had no creativity left (which in my opinion is not true), she would still be an artist.

Not sure what you mean by cabaret show, but this tour is one of the most creative she has put together. She's doing the songs she wants to do, and she's fulfilling her creative urge by singing some of them live for the very first time. To me, it's incredibly ballsy to have a set that includes a 10-song stretch in which the only hit single is "Stand Back." This could easily turn off the casual fans (the majority of the seats in the arenas) who are expecting a greatest hits show. She could have gone that route, but THAT would have been the lazy approach of someone going through the motions. Instead she did something different and, judging from the reviews, most people seem to be receiving the show well, and they leave much more familiar with her art than when they came.
TheWildHeart67

She got another rave review in Austin.
Clearly the continuous packed arenas are enjoying her setlist which hardly relies solely on old hits.
People on this board are clearly upset at her for not recording with Fleetwood Mac and her statements to the press.
Nobody knows the politics of FM better than the band members themselves.
It's always been rocky, and as far as the money grabbing comments, clearly the other band members want the money unless they wouldn't be touring with her next year.
Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything.
As far as artistic, Stevie is an artist and her current tour is the best critically received tour of her solo career.
As far as the comments about her getting money "as long as it lasts," she is almost 70 years old. I think it's lasted since 1975, which is longevity.
She released two critically acclaimed solo albums this decade and if she never recorded again, her legacy is cemented.
She is also one of the very few that managed to sustain a highly successful solo career while balancing her part in one of the biggest rock bands of all time.
I don't think she seems jaded or unhappy.
On the contrary, she seems happy and doing exactly what she wants to do.
And pleasing concert goers and critics alike,

I think Stevie is a very relevant artist. When 24K Gold was released it hit the TOP TEN. The only other aging white chick in the TOP TEN at that time was Barbra Streisand. Not bad for a rocker in her sixties. As soon as Christine called, she dropped EVERYTHING and toured with the MAC, AGAIN, after wrapping up months of touring with them and an appearance at The New Orleans Jazz Fest. Of course Christine is back and eager to get rolling musically, she has been away for sixteen years. More power to her! Chris and LB get along in the studio - Stevie and LB don't - a fact of life that we should all be used to by now. Stevie wanted her TWO years off from the MAC...no biggie. She gave them her blessing for the album.
I have concluded that no matter WHAT Stevie does, there will always be those that will have something negative to say. And as a fan they have every right. I do know that I have hundreds of Facebook Stevie and Fleetwood Mac fans that no longer come to this message board because of all the Stevie Bashing. People have been bashing Stevie for years and she is still going strong. I am a Stevie fan on The Edge of 60 and I have endured the bashing and I am still strong and going to see her for the second time this tour in New Orleans tomorrow night. When I saw the reunited RUMOURS lineup in Houston, it was a great show and it was great to see Christine with the band, and Stevie looked so happy!
But in October when I saw Stevie solo at the same venue, the crowd seemed to be more lively and stood longer and danced more than the MAC show...They are all growing older each day...I just want to enjoy them for as long as I can no matter what...and no matter how they choose to move forward as the MAC and as individual solo artists. We are pretty lucky that no one has retired yet!!!

Hello everyone:
New poster here but have been lurking for some time. I wasn't sure where to post my comments but this thread is as good as any.
I've been a FM/Stevie fan since 1975 when my parents brought home the FM white album. I've seen FM on the Mirage, Tango in the Night, Dance, Say You Will, and On With the Show tours. I've seen Stevie on Wild Heart, Rock a Little, OSOTM, Enchanted, Millennium, TISL, one of the Vegas shows, whatever the 2007 tour was called, the 2010 show in Lake Tahoe, and thankfully 24Karat.
After the 2010 Lake Tahoe show, I told myself I would never see Stevie Nicks in concert again. Boring short setlist with covers of Bob Seger and Tom Petty, going through the motions, might as well have called it in from her home. I said the same about FM after the lifeless Say You Will tour, filled with canned speeches and Stevie praying for each show to end . The only thing that got me back to see them was the triumphant return of Christine McVie.
When I saw the setlist for 24 Karat tour, I almost fell out of my chair. After years of Stevie practically insulting her fans - and herself - with pathetic setlists, she pulled together a gem of a songlist. I was fortunate enough to be Boston for work during her Nov. 15th performance and scored a 12th row ticket. It was a performance of a lifetime. To see her come out to Gold and Braid, doing what the hell she wanted, genuine smile, made my heart soar. I relished every word of her long stories. I found myself screaming out "thank you" after nearly every song, particularly Wild Heart/Bella Donna and Moonlight.
To think she would bring out Wild Heart, Bella Donna, Gold and Braid, Crying in the Night, somewhat obscure songs from In Your Dreams and 24 Karat and not be afraid to drop Dreams (although she did Dreams in Boston), Landslide (although it's back), Sorcerer, enter Tom Petty song here, Break the Promise, Rock and Roll, all those painfully boring songs from the tours of the last 10-15 years blew me away and gave me new love and appreciation for someone who has meant the world to me my entire lifetime. The only song I could do without is Enchanted but if sitting through that is the price to pay for this remarkable show, so be it.
I think that Stevie Nicks is at the top of her game. She is confident and doing what she wants. She is giving her longtime fans a priceless gift - a long, stunning show that brings out the best in her. I have been thinking about that Boston show for months. If I had the money to travel and see other performances, I would have. I remain extremely grateful I had the opportunity that I did.
I couldn't care less if Stevie recorded with Fleetwood Mac. The magic of that band ended decades ago. I'm sure Lindsey and Christine are recording some good music but the essence of the band that resulted in the brilliance of the white album, Rumours, Tusk, some of Mirage, and maybe a tiny bit of Tango is long gone. The Dance tour was amazing because of the reunion aspect - same with On With the Show. I would gladly go to a final tour show for the same reason. But that's the reality. Thinking that FM would put out some kind amazing album when the 5 of them have no real connections any longer is wishful at best.
Yes, Stevie's comments that she won't record with FM because no one will buy the album are annoying. They are annoying because they aren't the truth. The truth is that she doesn't want to record with them and she has every right to do whatever she wants. Lindsey bailed after Tango, Christine bailed after the Dance, and Stevie can bail now. She should just be honest and say she doesn't want to record but is happy to do some tours for the fans. However, I don't care what Stevie says. I care what she does. And what she's been doing on this tour - is pure magic.

Danielle, we obviously have differing perspectives on Stevie as she stands these days. It is my opinion that she is simply in it for the money (while it lasts) at this point and no longer possesses any semblance of creativity. If it wasn't obvious from the current cabaret show then look no further than the most recent spate of interviews wherein she references her money-making objectives.
she has more money than she will ever need, so i think its not her main reason for touring, she just likes doing it.

Of course she has more money than she will ever need, but she is greedy and egotistical to the core. As I stated before, she's simply an awful human being.

In my opinion the awful human beings are others, like rapists, mafia criminals and pedophiles.
However I think that if she really thought about the money then she would have gotten back to FM since there lies the real money.
Simply the solo act is more emotionally rewarding.

Yes you have stated your opinion in this thread more than once. We get it...you don't like her. If you don't like her, why are you here? 99.9% of the people on this Stevie board don't agree with your opinion. Quit trying to shove it down our throats.
I can't compete with those arguments. Consider me silenced.

Oh, don't worry Phil, noone here wants you silenced.
I guess everyone is just tired of unending and sterile arguments, I can't speak for everyone but for example I already have plenty of problems and fights in my real life so I rarely (if ever) engage in petty quarrels on the web and often try to prevent them.
I'm not sure what Stevie is supposed to have done that's so awful.
She has decided that she doesn't want to work on the FM album, and doesn't want Lindsey producing her work. Even as someone who prefers Lindsey's production to any other producer she has worked with and who thinks that SYW is one of the best FM albums, I still think that this is entirely Stevie's call. I'm not sure where the ego has come from. I haven't yet seen anything excessively egotistic from her.
Has Stevie been kidnapping children to work in sweatshops? Has she claimed that she's more talented than Beethoven, Lennon, and John Coltrane put together? Did she insist that the Pope bow down before her?

I wasn't trying to silence anyone. I just don't understand the logic of people coming to a fan board for an artist and dogging them over and over. Why bother? These boards are here so we can share our love of an artist. It is about the music and the performance. If you are not a fan anymore, then let the rest of us enjoy her. Because we do and we are. I absolutely HATE what the Rumours board has turned into and I would be truly sad to see this board go in the same direction.

JohnL. Exactly! I can understand some being dissapointed. But to hate. To say somebody is an awful human being? Really? Charles Manson is a horrible human being.
I'm just back from another forum where some older fans are bitching and moaning about what their supposedly favourite artists are doing.
What the heck? These artists have given us decades of their art. They're continuing to work long after they are rich enough to spend the rest of their life sitting by the beach in Polynesia somewhere. (Maybe not Mick). They're continuing to work into their 70s to give us fans even more. And what am I seeing all over the net? B*t*h*ng and moaning because these artists aren't doing exactly what some fans want them to.

Yes. It's way over the top. If anyone watched Homeland last night then I will just say this: sock puppets.

you're right on the one hand.
on the other, a lot of people don't want the same old same old from an artist every.single.time.
Imagine if an actor were out doing interviews and such promoting his/her movie....except it was THE SAME MOVIE every time. "Hi, I'm here to promote my movie, Star Wars/Gone With the Wind/The Godfather" whatever. And a year later, they're on the circuit and doing interviews etc promoting....the same movie. Now it's on DVD. Ok, great that makes sense. But then,a year later, they're out talking about and promoting their movie......the same movie. Nothing new about it. Over and over and over. That's the annoyance and boredom some fans find with musical artists performing/promoting the same music every.time.
You can only repackage the same thing so many times before people get BORED. I think really that's where most people's "anger" comes from.... it's really just boredom...the old "nothing new here, folks". Artists are typically people who see the world uniquely from the rest of us and what makes them so fascinating is that they show us a way of seeing or thinking about the world that we wouldn't have thought of on our own. They open our eyes/ears/minds to new perspectives. If you want to stay relevant as an artist, part of your job/calling/talent is to continue doing that, or at least striving to do that.
When you decide you're done creating, and are happy with re-hashing the past, that makes you stale and a lot less relevant. It's still a nice nostalgia trip for people, and that's fine as far as it goes, but it's not moving forward.
People need to accept that Stevie is very, very, ok with doing that. She doesn't seem likely to change her mind. She bought into money/sales as the metric of the value of her work a long time ago, but at least it didn't stop her from producing new material....coz the sales were still there. It's hard to accept that she isn't the "mad songwriter" writing for the love of it anymore like she was when we fell in love with her. But the thing is, she hasn't really been that girl for a long time now.

I know! And I've been checking it often to see updates on the new 'not FM' album and the Deluxe Tango album, but the hate is such a turn off, I don't want to anymore.
Would it be wrong or rude to post a thread on the Stevie board about the upcoming FM albums where we can get updates about the release dates? That way, the info will be here as well.

We don't need duplicate threads on the Fleetwood Mac albums. Now, there are two threads going about the Rolling Stone comments and I guess that was logical enough, since they were Stevie comments.
But to the extent possible, all of the discussion on a topic should be in one place. That not only makes more sense in the presence, but also in the future, when people are searching past posts to see a collection of articles.
If you want updates and don't want to read the Rumours section, then I'm sure there must be some place else you can go where they post Fleetwood Mac news.

I'd agree except for what Stevie is doing on this tour is the opposite of what's she's been doing (solo) for the first time in years. She may not be writing new songs, but she's pushing 70 and maybe doesn't have it in her or doesn't care. What she has done is completely reinvent her approach to her live solo performance in a stunning way. To me that is just as, if not more, interesting than trying to pretend FM is a real band that can put together meaningful music when they have no authentic connection any longer. I find the idea of another FM album to be just as nostalgia based as anything else. I think what Stevie is doing on this tour is very creative and, for me, magical.
EDIT: sorry, I'm new. I'm not trying to steer into FM talk. I'm trying to talk about Stevie in context of the discussion in this thread.

I think your point of view is refreshing.
Yes, both Stevie and the other band members have reached a point in their age and careers in which they simply are nostalgia acts and there's nothing bad about it, it doesn't even depend on producing new music or albums or touring or not, it's just normal for all things to become like this.
Who knows, maybe fans can't accept it because it reflects their becoming nostalgic and old in real their life?

Buckingham and McVie are releasing a new album soon. If it is, as I expect, good quality stuff, then that makes them more than just a nostalgia act.

I was listening to the obituaries for Chuck Berry on the radio and they said that he had an upcoming release with mainly new music and I thought, "Huh??"
But if it really is new and not just something that his record company is pulling out of the vault from 40 years ago to capitalize on his death, then I am really surprised and appreciate that.

I started a thread with the release date for the Tango Deluxe edition, but it was deleted. I also asked if people were planning to buy it and if so, which one- the 2 CD edition or the vinyl/cd/dvd edition. Hopefully that's ok to ask on this board. I would still like to know which edition folks are planning to buy, or if they're going to skip it.

That's not the point. The meaning of Nostalgia is emotional longing or regret for what is passed or distant. Simply our heroes aren't current or present artists anymore but their identity and value is now cast in stone in their past.

I agree 100% but that would be a B/M album - not nostalgia but also not FM. Sorry for saying BM. I'm personally thrilled to hear what B/M has for us - a lifeless Stevie addition would take away from the experience. I love everything that's going on - a revitalized solo Stevie and what seems to be great stuff from B/M. We are very lucky.

There is no need to have that post in the Stevie thread. There's a post about the Tango release in the Rumours thread. If you don't want to post in the Rumours thread, that is fine. But don't start a duplicate thread about the FM release here.

She is getting full houses and loads of critical acclaim on this tour and got lots of critical acclaim and decent sales for 24KG considering it had zero promotion. She needs to do a 24KG 2 to cement her legacy as a legend.
