It might have been Stevie's at one point but it's not the cape from The Wild Heart album cover, outtakes from that photoshoot show that that cape is velvet but with a satin lining and also probably black and not purple:

Well I am glad someone else responded to this because I always thought the cape she wore on the album cover was black or a dark brown. And also I am a little bit color blind when it comes to certain colors. I never thought it was purple though.

Can we talk about how never-in-a-million years would I have thought she was wearing that top and skirt underneath the cape on the Wild Heart album cover... But look at the cover -- those ARE the same sleeves!

I don't think the Wild Heart cape on the cover was black or brown. No way. Look at the photo. The lighting is dark which makes it look darker but if it was a black cape it would be pure black with the dark lighting. I see it being the dark red/purple color which someone else posted on another photoshoot. A black cape would black her out completely with that kind of lighting. A purple cape in that kind of lighting does look brownish but the lighting has that effect.
The Ebay cape looks like it could be legit.

I just looked at the listing again and the seller has quite a bit of negative feedback within the last 6 months. It looks like you have to pay by check and they don't accept paypal, which means the buyer has no protection if something is wrong. I'd be very wary of this, especially since they're not offering any documentation.

Zoe Howe book states on the cover of The Wild Heart Album the cape is Black....but again maybe its a mistake...

The buyer has a 94% approval on Ebay. The gripes are about payment and not authenticity. There is a link to the buyers store and even the auction lists the source; "Its Only Rock N Roll from 2003."
A look at the seller's store seems to sell legit stuff. But of course there is no way to know for sure. It seems the seller bought many of these items at Rock N Roll auctions, held them and now selling them.

The cape was black according to the 1997 Harper's bazaar interview.

I'm just saying to be careful. 94% positive feedback is very poor, in my opinion. I'd never buy from anyone with feedback as low as that and with no buyer protection from paypal or a credit card company. The seller doesn't say that any proof from the prior auction it was purchased from is included, so the history is still unclear, unless someone has an auction catalog or something from back then to verify it. And in the end I'm just really skeptical of the fact that it's purple.

I thought the lining in the eBay listing was hard to see.

I just want to say that the fabric of Stevie's cape in that cover seems to clearly be silk rayon velvet. The cape on ebay is merely velveteen looking, imo.
I personally am 98% certain that is not the cape.

I wrote to the seller and asked about that, and also if they have a CoA to prove their claim.

94% positive is near perfection. The seller had thousands of items sold. That's pretty good. I will always bet on a 94% chance.
Someone posted they emailed the seller about authenticity. I hope its true because I hope on wearing it to Stevie's concert on the 29th

I would be extremely cautious of this. From the cover and the outtakes, the cape looks black to me. Even under different light, I don't think that it was any shade of blue. Dark, dark violet maybe. Still, I would be skeptical.
A second look and the listing appears to be purple. I still don't think it's the same cape though.

I'd say that's the definitive word on the cape. Black. This is from the 1997 Harper's Bazaar article someone mentioned earlier. There are also several Herbert Worthington photos of Stevie where she's wearing a black cape. No doubt it's the same one.

Okay so she wore that cape on stage for the Wild Heart tour (or one similar) and when the lights hit it it looked just as it did on the album cover. I'm betting on the black cape. The cape in the eBay listing isn't even the same material.

The cape on ebay doesn't look like it has a satin lining like Stevie's clearly does. Also, the ebay pics are really small - probably for a reason. It's not that cape. It MAY have been hers, but it's not the one on the album cover, the Herbert Worthington photos, or that she wore on stage in any photos I've seen.
Another thing to note is that there's a 20% premium added to the winning price. Also, they make no guarantees about anything they're selling. In other words, buy at your own risk.

I received a reply from the seller. I read from it that they merely infer that this is the Wild Heart cape, to me it is even merely inferred that it once belonged to Stevie Nicks, merely because it was heaped in with an auction that also happened to include lots of Fleetwood Mac things.
Personally, I am of the very strong opinion that this is not the wild heart cape, and if it DID belong to Stevie, maybe it was gifted by a fan or something. Just supposing things here, I realize, but I simply cannot see MK or any of Stevie's designers ever choosing such a poorly-draping cheap fabric as velveteen for a cloak. Or, Stevie consenting to wearing it. See how wrinkled it even is? Silk rayon velvet would NEVER do that, it's heavy and drapes beautifully, and creases fall out.
I just don't see it.
Personally. Here is a copy of the reply:
Hello,
Thanks for your inquiry. This piece came from a prominent auction in 2003 that featured dozens of lots related to Fleetwood Mac, including other original pieces of clothing from the wardrobe of Stevie Nicks (please see our citation and look up this sale online for further reference). The lot is accompanied by the original sales invoice from that sale, and our auction also includes a Stevie Nicks Presentation BPI gold record award that our consigner purchased in the same sale. Based on its sales history and the strength of the accompanying material we are confident in its authenticity. It is not accompanied by a COA from any of the people you mention.
Discuss :]

We may never know if its the same exact cape from the album. But its definitely Stevie related where you can track the original auction. I have seen authentic autographs sold with no certification. I have seen fake autographs sold with fake certifications, etc. The seller is well established with almost flawless feedback. I definitely do not think the seller is lying even if its not the same exact cape. At the original auction this is how it was probably sold to them. The seller bashers should take up the claim with the original auction. Not this seller who is selling the piece many years later how it was sold to him/her. This cape did not come out of "nowhere" and is not being sold by someone NOT affiliated with selling rock star memorabilia. Research the seller's store before you cast judgment.

Oh certainly. I agree the seller seems to believe the claim, and they seem nice and polite enough.
But besides being convinced that it is not THE Wild Heart cloak from the obvious discrepancies in photographic proof we have, I personally am convinced Stevie would have not worn a cape made of such sub-par fabric on any occasion. Not where she had access to some great designers and the best silk velvets around.
Macfan4life, if you think of bidding, is there a way you can get to a fabric store around you before then maybe.. I just wish I could make you feel and see the difference between the synthetic and cotton velvet and the real deal .
But, ultimately, it's your decision, do what makes you feel happy. You only live once! :xoxo:

Just one more thing about why this does not sit right with me as a Stevie Nicks cloak. This coming from a costumer and fervent seamstress, even if not a pro.
The cut of the cloak is so masculine. It's very unflatteringly cut for a short female, the fabric seems to be gathered and bunched at the shoulders, rather than the flattering circle cut, where the cloak nips in at the shoulders and lays almost flat there, to fan out at the bottom in a nice full swirl. This design will make one look very poofy. Specially unflattering in this style of fabric
Also, the "folded away and buttoned" hood part, and the point of it, are something I do not recall ever seeing her wear, in images. The hoods on her cloaks I have seen have the round cut.
Just things on my hinky-meter.
And now I'll hush. Just was trying to make people beware and research before they spend such a sum I guess.

I agree with all of that. The Wild Heart cover is so magical with lighting that its hard to tell if the lighting makes it look like velvet or even the color. That was done intentionally and is a great effect. I am not bidding on the cape but I would love to wear it and dance around it in for a minute or two
I agree with you. The seller is not lying to anyone. They are selling an item they bought from an auction with this claim. As someone else pointed out, this looks like a Hard Rock Café item. Those items are sometimes reproductions or just signed by the artist. This could have been part of a huge Stevie wardrobe that we may never know if she ever wore.

I think the purple lighting makes the black look dark purple:shrug:
Exactly. Stevie's lighting on that tour was dark for some reason. I think that may have been the trend at that time.
