Stevie Nicks is launching her 24 Karat Gold tour later month, named for her acclaimed 2014 studio album consisting of new recordings of previously unheard compositions. Now, Nicks is looking back once more with two more 24-karat gold Deluxe Editions of her first two solo albums, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. Both releases arrive from Rhino on November 4, along with remastered, stand-alone editions of the original albums on LP, CD and DD.

1981’s solo debut Bella Donna will be released as a 3-CD set. Produced by Jimmy Iovine, the album yielded such immortal Nicks tracks as “Edge of Seventeen” and two duets: “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and “Leather and Lace” with Don Henley. Disc Two of the upcoming set has nine previously unreleased cuts (including alternate versions of “Edge of Seventeen,” “Leather and Lace,” and the title song) plus Nicks’ soundtrack performances of “Blue Lamp” from Heavy Metal and “Sleeping Angel” from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The third disc premieres a 1981 concert featuring selections from Bella Donna alongside Fleetwood Mac favorites “Sara” and “Rhiannon.”

stevie-nicks-the-wild-heartFollowing the 1982 release of Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage (recently reissued across multiple formats by Rhino – read our review here!), Nicks returned to her solo career with 1983’s The Wild Heart. The double-platinum smash is being reissued as a 2-CD set. It included such favorites as “Stand Back,” “Nightbird” and “I Will Run To You,” which reunited the artist with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The 9-track bonus disc has seven previously unreleased cuts including demos and outtakes, plus the “Stand Back” B-side “Garbo” and Nicks’ recording of “Violet and Blue” from the Against All Odds soundtrack.

“I’ve had so much fun reliving the making of Bella Donna and The Wild Heart while working on the liner notes and listening to all of the alternate versions and demo takes,” Nicks commented in the original press release. “The liner notes are so much more than liner notes. They are like a little novel. I tried to make whoever reads this feel like they were there. I think…I succeeded….”

These two highly-anticipated reissues arrive from Rhino on November 4. In the meantime, Stevie kicks off her 24-Karat Gold tour (on which she’ll be joined by The Pretenders) on October 25 in Phoenix. It wraps December 18 at The Forum in Los Angeles!

You can peruse the track listings for both Deluxe Editions below! Pre-order links are not yet available, but we will add as soon as they become active!

What?!!! Oh my freaking God! I can't believe this is happening… And coming out in less than a month! "Sorcerer" as a outtake from the "wild heart"? The HBO concert in audio form? Kind of disappointed that they didn't include the whole show… But still, beggars can't be choosers! This is too much! I'm so excited! And finally a studio version of "Golden braid"! I'm dying!

Actually it is the whole show, it's just that it's only the audio.
What I'm disappointed about is the lack of a third live disc for The Wild Heart!

No. They've omitted "Blue Lamp" and "Think About It", which were also performed that night. :( So it's NOT the whole show.

I'm most curious about the Alternate version of "Sleeping Angel", the unreleased version of "If You Were My Love" (I'm not sure I've heard any complete studio versions from the Bella Donna sessions), "I Sing For The Things" (wondering if it's what we usually call the upbeat RAL outtake?), Alternate version of "SABLE ON BLONDE" (freaking OUT about that one!), "Dial The Number", "Wild Heart" session (by description, seems like that one might be an incomplete take), and UBER curious about "Sorcerer"!!! Could it be the "Streets Of Fire" version with Marilyn? Or the same version with Stevie's lead vocal? Or something completely different altogether???

GAH!!!!! I'm jumping up and down! FINALLY! I never thought we'd ever see something like this! :]:]:]

I'm so glad they finally got around to doing this. The omission of Julia isn't a complete surprise. Stevie probably still plans on doing something with it. I hope she does.

It sort of makes sense that "Sorcerer" was recorded for inclusion on The Wild Heart. Marilyn Martin recording it seems sort of random, unless Stevie tried it and either wasn't satisfied with it, Jimmy Iovine wasn't, or it just didn't fit on the album, and then they decided to let Marilyn record it.

It's true, I didn't see that.

However I see that they deemed Angel, Leather And Lace, Bella Donna and How Still My Love as "previously unreleased". It seems it's a miscellaneous of various outtakes from different gigs, maybe we're getting something unexpected.

As I've already said to Sorcerer999 that already pointed it out to me, Yes I didn't see that they weren't 16 tracks.
And since Angel, Leather And Lace, Bella Donna and How Still My Love are marked as "previously unreleased" probably it's a miscellaneous of various outtakes from different gigs like they did for the Tusk live disc.

I would LOVE THAT!!! Even though she only did, what? 11? 12 shows? I would love it if each song were the "best of the best" from different gigs on that tour instead of just an expanded HBO show. But if it is indeed just that, like the radio broadcast, I'll be happy as well...as long as it sounds remastered and crisp!

Still kind of bummed about the lack of inclusion regarding "Think About It" and "Blue Lamp" though. I have the whole show as a (fairly good sound quality) audience recording of that night. "Think About It" was plagued with a bad "mic screech" at the very beginning so maybe that's why it's not included...but "Blue Lamp" live was absolutely sublime!

I had that bootleg too before my computer crashed, it was very good sound.
A miscellaneous of songs would fit better with the songs that aren't in setlist order and the setlist not being full.
Leather And Lace from the HBO night has already been released in the Enchanted or Crystal Vision boxset, I don't remember, and Stevie said in the commentary that the show was recorded in full.

That happens sometimes with Rhino. They will send out press releases before Amazon or other retail sites put up links for pre-ordering.

Popular music sites like Ultimateclassicrock.com and radio.com are already advertising press releases...so I doubt this is a hoax. And THANK GOD! This was a long time coming!

Here's hoping these releases will be successful enough for Rhino to warrant a deluxe release of "Rock A Little" (imagine the outtakes on THAT one) and (maybe perhaps) TOSOTM?

Neither. The HBO special of "Leather and Lace" hasn't ever been commercially released on it's own. It was used for the video of the song, but the recording hasn't been released. The video isn't on the CV DVD either.

Only "Edge of Seventeen" and "Gold & Braid" have been released, Edge first as a b-side and "Gold & Braid" on the Enchanted boxset.

I'm kind of happy that the original video for EO17 wasn't included on the Cystal Visions DVD. It looks like Chris Nicks shot and edited it. It's also super cheesy with the "doll" and the "beach" scenes. Ugh!

As fas as I'm aware, the "Leather & Lace" live video (cut from the HBO special) was only commercially available on the "I Can't Wait" VHS.

I've searched because I'm sure I used to own a hq copy of that shot that surely came from a DVD:

The live performance of "Leather And Lace" was, however, used as a video promo for the single release (even though it was a solo version and did not feature Don Henley), and did surface on the 1986 VHS collection I Can't Wait, which featured six of Nicks' promo-clips between 1981 and 1985. These six promos were released on DVD as a special feature to the Australian issue of Fleetwood Mac – Mirage Tour in 2007.

P.S. Yes, Sorcerer999, the original EO17 video was atrocious.

LOL!! Yeh, it's not a great video, but it would've been nice to have it included. I bet she doesn't even remember it.

I think you're right, the I Can't Wait video release is the only place L&L has been released as a video. The audio is available on the budget White Wing Dove live CD, but that's a poor recording of the same radio broadcast. I'm hoping that the new release is on the same quality as the Enchanted tracks.

So excited for this! Especially the bonus material. While there's not as much for WH, can you imagine how many discs a Rock a Little deluxe could fill?

I just wonder why she and the record company waited so long. The prime time to issue these would have been during the remaster craze of the late 90s to mid-2000s, when people were still in the habit of buying music.

But I'm not complaining! Keep 'em comin

Along with the uncirculated demos and outtakes that we haven't heard, I think I'm most excited by this...

“The liner notes are so much more than liner notes. They are like a little novel. I tried to make whoever reads this feel like they were there. I think I succeeded.”

:thumbsup::nod:

Hopefully, she includes more previously uncirculated pictures from various photoshoots as well.

New pictures and new stories that go along with unheard older material is one of the major reasons I was obsessed with "Enchanted" when it was released...and the MAIN reason my obsession with this woman reached the levels that it did. HAha!

These reissues are exciting but I'm perplexed by the omission of "Julia" and some other unreleased recordings from these sessions. I can only imagine these are being considered for the next solo or FM album. Not including "Think About Me" and "Blue Lamp" on the live disc is a major disappointment. I know it's unrealistic of me but I would have loved these albums to get the 'super deluxe treatment' that Rumours, Tusk and Mirage have had bestowed upon them.
I hope and I pray that Rock A Little gets a mammoth deluxe edition that includes the superior version of "She Loves Him Still" among so many other superb compositions from this period.

YESSSSSSS!!!!!

I've been screaming for this to happen for AGES! Bella Donna is my favorite FM-related album and The Wild Heart is really great too, and I've always dreamed they'd get remastered someday, hopefully as deluxe editions, and it finally came true! I can't believe it! I'm so happy!! Am I using too many exclamation points?!? Probably!
I kinda wish the whole White Wing Dove show would come as an accompanying DVD instead of the audio, but who am I to complain? Don't ever look a gift horse in the mouth!

Now, the question is, will we ever see deluxe editions for Rock a Little and OSOTM (preferably RAL as it's a far better album)? Well, since I was never sure when we'd get deluxe remasters of BD and TWH (and Mirage), maybe someday!

I agree with you on the wealth of outtakes circulating that could have made its way on these deluxe sets. A shame there are only nine bonus tracks per album...but here's my two cents on why I think that is the case...

Stevie and her camp are well aware of all the bootlegs that we, as fanatics, have collected over the past few decades. I feel like she specifically chose songs that she not only loves, but that she (or Karen, or whoever trolls the internet for her) THINKS we don't have. Examples - the alternate Sable on Blonde, the unreleased Wild Heart version of Sorcerer, alternate Sleeping Angel, an unreleased Wild Heart version of I Sing For The Things, an unreleased studio version of IYWML from the Bella Donna sessions, etc...

I've been collecting Stevie Nicks bootlegs FOREVER but have never seen these in circulation. Perhaps that's why we're only getting nine new tracks per album? Because they know what has been circulated and what HASN'T been circulated? I dunno. And I agree that I think she's saving "Julia" for "Songs From The Vault" Part 2, as she's already mentioned it twice already.

The only thing I'm bummed about is the Bella Donna live show not being a "full" concert. They omit "Blue Lamp" and "Think About It". :( But like I said, beggars can't be chosers. I'm just glad they're FINALLY doing something like this!

Again, I'm willing to bet everything else included on the bonus discs are things we've never heard...or maybe things we THINK we've heard, but haven't. Sorry to rant and geek out! LOL! Just my opinion.

I find it rather odd "Julia" was left off given that Stevie said she loved the song but Jimmy Iovine wouldn't let her put it on the LP. No original Starshine, original If You Ever Did Believe, All the King's Horses, Sanctuary...not that I'm complaining as I'm ecstatic we are finally getting these. Let's hope she continues with RAL which is in dire need of remastering plus the treasure trove of unreleased goodies.

I concur with everything you've stated. It would seem to be the case that Stevie wants to include recordings that have not as yet been issued, officially or otherwise (despite the likes of "Blue Lamp", "Violet & Blue", "Garbo" etc which have been previously remastered but definitely warrant inclusion on these deluxe versions from a historical perspective). What frustrates me is that she probably assumes we have access to master reel quality versions of more recordings than we do. Fair enough, we do have great sounding takes of "Julia" and many more, particularly during the Bella Donna sessions, but that cannot be said for the Wild Heart sessions and of course, Rock A Little.
It's also a shame that no video has been included. When you consider that the deluxe versions of Tusk and Mirage also ignored video content, I imagine it's more to do with the industry assessment that consumption of physical dvd/Blu-ray has diminished in recent years. Such a shame.
I know it's premature but I'm already bursting with excitement over the possibilities surrounding a future Rock A Little deluxe set. Let's hope Stevie/Karen realise that most of the leaked recordings from these sessions are lacking in audio quality.
PS I wonder if the version of "All The Beautiful Worlds" included on The Wild Heart is the completed take fans believe was prepared for possible b-side inclusion in late 1983, resplendent with overdubs courtesy of Bobbye Hall?

Don't know if this has been mentioned - I'll go back and check shortly! - but does anyone else find it odd that "Julia" wasn't included in the bonus tracks? I mean, it was on the original version, with artwork done and everything! What could she be holding it for???

Good stuff for fans. And probably a good move by Stevie.

I have most of the songs on the original releases and Enchanted and so on. I am also very selective of what I would bother with from that era of Stevie. I adore her but really only savour a certain subcategory of her work. For example "rockers" like Gold and Brain or Enchanted or Violet and Blue make me tired. Much of Bella Donna too. Sorry. I know this is against the mainstream grain among fans. Just an opinion and not meant to criticize the tastes of others.

I would have vastly preferred a 24KG2 with fresh takes and new vocals. These re-master/re-releases keep us in the (shaky uneven production and song choices) 80's and likely indicate no new recordings are coming anytime soon.

Just my (really minority) view. On with the discussion, enjoy the re-releases.

Along with the uncirculated demos and outtakes that we haven't heard, I think I'm most excited by this...

“The liner notes are so much more than liner notes. They are like a little novel. I tried to make whoever reads this feel like they were there. I think I succeeded.”

:thumbsup::nod:

HAha!
And
A fun story about "Enchanted." I, too, was crazy about the song, and could never understand why it wasn't released as a single. Last summer at lunch, I conveyed this to Paul Fishkin. He said that, at the time, Stevie wanted it as a single instead of "Nightbird." Paul just didn't hear it, and vetoed it down. Now, years later, he loves the song, and thinks they could have moved another million copies had they released it!

Enchanted has great energy and can be infectious. Even if you don't particularly like it, I think as a record company you should always release a song with that uptempo just for the reaction it will get in concert from everyone who knows it due to the radio play. It makes you want to move around.

I agree with you on "Julia". I believe that "Julia" is being saved for the next Fleetwood Mac studio album. I'm sure Fleetwood Mac has already worked on an unofficial arrangement in whatever studio they've been working in without Stevie.

Interesting story. I agree that "Enchanted" would have been a much better choice for the 3rd single from "Wild Heart". I think Stevie could have had another Top 20 hit.

Given how personal the song is, it's hard for me to see her giving the song to FM.

But most importantly, ZOMG!! :]

This is just the most exciting and amazing and unexpected news.

Agreed that there's some thought here in including outtakes that fans have not previously heard. But I also think that Stevie's holding back some songs, given that she has repeatedly expressed a desire to release a second vault album.

Regardless, so long the live BD disc is taken from the masters, I'm happy.

I've been hoping for some time that "Julia" will be recorded for the FM album. If Stevie allows it, Lindsey is capable of producing this to perfection. If done sympathetically, it could rival "Sara" in terms of lush orchestration and beauty. Stevie would really need to work on a pure vocal and Christine, in particular, could really contribute meaningfully to such a production.

I'm excited for these, but bummed we won't get Think About It or Blue Lamp on the live CD. If space on the CD was the issue, then leave off Edge of Seventeen and Gold and Braid, both of which were included on Enchanted. Just so frustrating to almost get them, you know.

With Wild Heart, I'm also disappointed there's not a live recording of I Will Run to You with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on disc 2. I know they sang it live once. While I'm thrilled to finally get to hear Dial a Number, I'm confused why it's on the Wild Heart. I saw a small article in Rolling Stone in 1988 or 1989 where Stevie said Dial a Number was going to be on the Other Side of the Mirror. Guess she had the demo since Wild Heart. That article also mentioned a song called the Tragedy of One's Own Soul- anyone know anything about this song?

I wonder if these rereleases are why Stevie is planning to add Bella Donna and the Wild Heart to her new set list? Makes sense.

I know what you mean about Enchanted. That was released at the exact right time for me, just as I was becoming an obsessive fan (not in a bad, stalky way) and just before I saw her live for the first (and so far the only) time. I got totally stuffed on Stevie.
Had I never got Enchanted, I'd never have discovered so many great lesser known stuff, including 'Sleeping Angel', which is now just slightly beating out 'Gypsy' as my very favorite Stevie song.

Anyway, as for the Bella Donna photoshoot, I agree, there ought to be everything they can get their hands on for the deluxe set's package, like these:

You are spot on!! I couldn't agree more. The lines "I do two things these days" and "I would suffer for the love" are perfect for Fleetwood Mac. Now that many of Stevie's old demos have been professionally recorded, "Julia" stands as her GREATEST song that has yet to be officially recorded and released. Chris could add some wonderful harmonies to "Julia". Let's just mail this demo in a little black envelope to The Mac so they can't start working on an arrangement.

I know it's unrealistic of me but I would have loved these albums to get the 'super deluxe treatment' that Rumours, Tusk and Mirage have had bestowed upon them.

In a perfect world, right? :D That would have been amazing to get a four or five disc set per album, including a 5.1 remaster DVD audio.

Sadly, Stevie's popularity from her solo career just isn't in the same realm of Fleetwood Mac. It makes sense that these (almost $100) Deluxe boxed sets of Rumours, Tusk and Mirage were produced. Fleetwood Mac (as a band) are as iconic these days as The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Queen, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones. All those bands have pretty much received the Deluxe treatment with their back catalogs. The label is going to produce them because they know people will buy them. Not just fanatics, but casual fans as well. And ESPECIALLY twenty and thirty-something hipsters who still buy vinyl and physical copies of albums.

Extensive boxed sets of Bella Donna and Wild Heart would be incredible. But it doesn't really surprise me that these aren't so extensive. I think we should be happy they're releasing these expanded editions in the first place. I'm really shocked that, at this point, it even happened at all. And I am OVERJOYED!

With Wild Heart, I'm also disappointed there's not a live recording of I Will Run to You with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on disc 2. I know they sang it live once.

There's a reason it was only performed live one time - it sucked! LOL! :sorry:

I'm kind of happy that the original video for EO17 wasn't included on the Cystal Visions DVD. It looks like Chris Nicks shot and edited it. It's also super cheesy with the "doll" and the "beach" scenes. Ugh!

As fas as I'm aware, the "Leather & Lace" live video (cut from the HBO special) was only commercially available on the "I Can't Wait" VHS.
The original video for Stand Back is far worse compared to EO17. Anyway, how she was acting when handling the "doll" creeped me out! The "beach" scenes were just plain stupid. The whole thing was out of sync from the song and probably a waste of money, too.

I found this on an old thread from the beginning of this year titled "Could we get Box Sets of Bella Donna and The Wild Heart?"
The Iron-E

I've always toyed with this idea, my ideal package would be:

BELLA DONNA

Disc 2 = Alternate outtakes (Bella Donna take 2, sparse Leather and lace, the Highwayman take 2 -with audible Don-, Stop Draggin my heart around take 26, Edge of Seventeen take 20, How still my love take 2-4, Outside the rain take 21-22, alternate Think about it, After the glitter fades, Kind of woman)
Disc 3-4 = Unreleased Demos (Castaway, Insider, Baby doll, If you were my love, If you ever did believe, Belle Fleur, Gypsy, Starshine, So sad, Sanctuary, Blue lamp, The dealer, Gold and braid, Julia)
Remastered DVD of the full HBO show.

WILD HEART
Disc1 = Remastered original album
Disc 2 = Alternate Outtakes (If anyone Falls, Nightbird and Wild heart with the extended ending, Wild heart photoshoot version, rocking Sable on Blond, Nothing ever changes, Beauty and the beast, Stand Back, Gate and garden, I will run to you and Enchanted alternates)
Disc 3 = Unreleased Demos (All the beautiful worlds, Destiny, Violet and Blue, Belle Fleur, Dial the number, Julia, Garbo, Gold and braid, Goodbye baby, City of hope)

That's probably correct. It seems as if pretty much all the "unreleased" songs that are finally seeing the light of day via reissues of the classic albums are only happening after they've been officially recorded for other projects. If you're not seeing it (Julia being a perfect example), it's because Stevie has other plans for it.

So The Wild Heart is already at #120 on the main Amazon US albums chart and at the time of writing, it is the album with the largest sales increase over the last few hours.

Amazing! I bet Bella Donna will do even better.

These will sell well because people have been waiting for these albums for years, me included. Both will sell especially well here in the UK because they haven't been available on CD in stores and Stevie's solo popularity has grown massively over the last decade.

When I first got the upbeat I Sing For The Things many years ago - I think in the 90's, it was labeled as a Wild Heart outtake. I've never known the upbeat version to be from RAL so I bet this is indeed the version you are thinking of.

Tragedy is out there circulating in the universe. From what I remember Kenny G is on it as well and it fits right in with the OSOTM version of Dial. I think this is the song where Stevie reprises "the sky is crying, the sky is blue" line? Or am I thinking of Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger?

Besides the absence of Julia from the reissue, is there additional evidence Stevie will put out 24K Part 2? If so, when is that likely to happen? Sorry if that has been addressed elsewhere.

From her Facebook Q&A from November of 2014...

Q: Hi Stevie Nicks! Your new album is amazing and I'm thrilled with the song selection. I do have one question -- do you have any plans to re-record "Julia" sometime in the future? It's long been a fan favorite, and many of us were very surprised you didn't include it on 24 Karat Gold.

A: It was on the original list. It's kind of like why the songs that DID make the record didn't make it back in '75. You have to start cutting songs. When I do '24 Karat Gold- Part 2 Songs from the Vault,' Julie will definitely be on it!

And then there was what she said in an article with McLeans in January 2015...

Q: 24 Karat Gold could easily have a Part 2 or 3 because of the number of demos you have. What would you include on it?

A: I think that this is one of the best records I’ve ever made. So I can’t just let this record go. When the Fleetwood Mac tour is over, I might go straight back to Nashville and record eight or nine songs, and Warner Brothers can take it and repackage the album. I have another 10 demos. There’s a song that’s called City of Hope that I love that needs to go out because that’s [the name of the California-based hospital] Robin was in. I spent a lot of time driving through the big sign that says “City of Hope” when there was no hope. With a bottle of brandy and a gram of cocaine, thinking, “Please God, don’t let her die.”

To answer your question, though, I'm not sure there's a time frame of when it's going to happen. I don't think it's going to be anytime soon. She doesn't currently have a label contract, either. But it seems that it is definitely "on her radar", since she's mentioned "Julia", "City Of Hope" and another song about John F. Kennedy. As well as that comment about another 10 demos.

So perhaps dumb question: are expanded and remastered albums ever released to fulfill an artist's label contract (as opposed to, say, a greatest hits album)? Put differently, would there be a possibility that these two remasters are the first two of X number of albums arising out of a new contract between Stevie and the label?

That's a very good question. I have absolutely no idea. I would assume that a contract stipulating "x amount" of albums would equal ANY release (as it did with her last contract that included Crystal Visions and Soundstage) but I'm not sure if that applies to "re-issues". Yes, they are old albums (that have been out of print for quite a few years now) but they include new material. It seems like there would be a fine line there.

But I will say that it's important to keep in mind that Rhino Records is now currently set up to be the "catalog division" of Warner Brothers.

From the wikipedia... In June 2006, Warner Strategic Marketing in the U.K. was dissolved and Rhino Records was formed. The division has two main factions: TV-advertised compilations (for example Pure Garage Rewind Back to the Old School) and catalog material from the Warner vaults Since this is the case, I bet these expanded editions don't count toward anything within a new contract, if there is one.

All we really know is that she said "24KG" fulfilled her contract with Warner Brothers, but she didn't say whether she had signed a new one or not.

Phil

I'm grateful for these two reissues but at the same time, it can't be denied that this is a wasted opportunity. For instance, I'm surprised how mingy Stevie's been with the bonus discs - just 11 tracks for Bella Donna and 9 for The Wild Heart?? Even the deluxe version of 24KG had 16 tracks. I realise there are some purists who prefer for original remastered albums to stand alone but I would have appended the b-sides and other non-albums tracks ("Blue Lamp", "Sleeping Angel", "Violet & Blue" and "Garbo") as actual bonus tracks and filled the respective second discs with demos and outtakes.
I'm frustrated by the BD bonus disc having two versions of "Sleeping Angel" and an 'early version' of "Edge Of Seventeen" (which probably runs for an eternity) when there are so many brilliant recordings from this period (previously mentioned in this thread) that could have been included.
Of course, the same goes for the TWH bonus disc but I must admit that what has been included has me salivating in anticipation ("Sorcerer" and "I Sing For The Things" in particular seem promising).
Furthermore, the BD Live disc is let down by the exclusion of "Think About It" and "Blue Lamp", rendering it incomplete. As others have noted, a dvd of this concert should have also been included.
I'm still excited about these releases but they could have been so much more...
PS With regard to a possible Rock A Little deluxe release in the future, I agree with another poster who suggested the complete "Mirror, Mirror" album (as intended in late 1984). That would make sense as a concept and include some outstanding tracks.

It kind of sucks that they're not doing a "super deluxe" package where you can get the vinyl records WITH the CDs. :/

When I'd originally heard about this I thought they would be
released as such. Because that's what everyone's doing now.
And when I'd found out about the Mirage Deluxe release the
record company didn't mention the Vinyl/CD/DVD set. But
then later added it. I was hoping for the same with Stevie.

Since Stevie's vinyl albums are mentioned as separate releases
I'm guessing that's not the case. But the vinyl is decently priced.
And some don't play vinyl (to their shame) anymore so I guess
it's cheaper for them this way.

If you are unhappy with the content of these new expanded editions, then more than likely you will also be unhappy with whatever she decides to release if (or when) she puts out an expanded RAL.

If you buy everything - the Cd's and both vinyls - it roughly totals out to $94.oo, which is almost basically the same price as buying ONE of the Fleetwood Mac Deluxe sets.

But you're combining both Bella Donna and Wild Heart and
then comparing it to one Fleetwood Mac title.

Around about...

$30.00 (3cd Bella Donna)
$22.00 (Vinyl Bella Donna)
$20.00 (2cd Wild Heart)
$22.00 (Vinyl Wild Heart)

I have the exact prices but don't have the time to look them

I agree that we are fortunate to be getting these reissues, particularly since I didn't think it would ever happen. Please don't misunderstand me - I am grateful, but I can't help fantasising about what could have been...
I know Stevie would never take this route, but if only she would consider some expanded super deluxe versions by way of crowd funding - that way, a limited number of them could be produced and she could charge through the roof for them. I think a limited edition of say 2,000 would be shifted in no time.

Stevie Nicks Reissuing Early Solo Albums, Says She Needs to "Be Careful" with Upcoming Tour Setlist

http://kwbe.com/abc_classicr/stevie-nicks-reissuing-early-solo-albums-says-she-needs-to-be-careful-with-upcoming-tour-set-list-abcid35785046/

BY ABC News Radio | October 5, 2016

Stevie Nicks‘ upcoming 24 Karat Gold Tour will feature the Fleetwood Mac singer performing songs from her entire solo career. If you want to revisit her earlier solo work, there’s good news: Her first two albums are being reissued with live tracks and unreleased material.

Deluxe editions of 1981’s Bella Donna and 1983’s The Wild Heart arrive November 4. The three-CD Bella Donna reissue includes unreleased versions of hits like “Edge of Seventeen,” movie soundtrack rarities and a 1981 live show. The Wild Heart two-CD reissue includes unreleased tracks and B-sides. Remastered versions of both albums also will be available on vinyl and CD that same day.

Stevie plans to reach back to both records on the tour, which kicks off October 25.

“I would like to do bits and pieces of the song ‘Bella Donna,'” Nicks tells ABC Radio. “I’m gonna try to do ‘Wild Heart’…It’s a very hard song to do but I’m gonna give it a go.”

Those tunes will join a parade of Stevie’s greatest hits in the set list: She’ll sing “Gold Dust Woman,” “Dreams,” “Stand Back” and “Rhiannon,” even though, she admits, Fleetwood Mac “just did ‘Rhiannon’ 220 times over the last three years.” Another song that’s always on the list: “Edge of Seventeen,” even though, she says, “[It’s] really long, so we might have to shorten it a little bit.”

For Nicks, the trickiest part is figuring out how many songs from her most recent album, 24 Karat Gold, to include in the set.

“You can only do a certain amount of everything that’s not that familiar to people,” she notes. “Or they’re gonna say, ‘What song came off of the set so you could play this new song that I don’t know?'”

Here are the track listings for the reissues:

Oh, man, I'm so disappointed she's planning to do Gold Dust Woman along with Rhiannon and Dreams. Stevie even acknowledged she had just done them with FM! She has so many solo hits she could sing instead. If she is really willing to alternate her set list as she hinted before, she should sing GDW one night and Rhiannon the next night. They both have a similar feel. But to sing them both in one night, along with Dreams and Landslide, is too much.

So we've got 4 songs from FM, maybe 4 songs from 24 Karat, "bits and pieces" from the song Bella Donna, and "maybe" the Wild Heart, a shortened version of Edge of 17, and Stand Back. That's already 12 songs. Steve's on a bill with the Pretenders, which means she'll probably play 90 minutes, which doesn't leave a lot of time for more songs. If we're lucky, we'll get 4-5 more songs. She's mentioned Rooms on Fire (yay!), Moonlight, and Soldier's Girl. And she just performed Leather and Lace on tv, so I'm sure that's on the list.

Please Stevie, no cover songs!!! Limit FM songs to 2 (or less)! That way you can focus on your solo material that your fans really, truly want to hear!

Agreeing with bwboy -
no covers
limit or alternate some Fleetwood Mac songs
more solo!

Comments for Wild Heart (the song): do a version of the shorter take everyone's seen on YouTube. :) More than likely easier to sing, and in a shorter version - leaves room for another solo song.

Comments for Rooms On Fire: even a re-tooled version would be wonderful :)

Shortening of Edge of 17?
WHAT
I guess that means no edge walk :(
I agree that she should do no more than 2 Mac songs.
For the casual fan: Dreams and Rhiannon or Landslide
NO MORE
Gold Dust Woman was also done 220 times over the past few years.

Not necessarily. Edge these days is longer than it's ever been. In the early solo tours, it was about 8 minutes or so, recently it's been more like 15 mins. It doesn't need to be that long!

Yes, she can cut out the "And somewhere deep in the middle of the night baby" part.

I want her to keep Gold Dust Woman in. I think it has been her standout song of the concerts I saw in 2013 and 2014.

I don't want her to cut any songs unless it is a cover. Instead I wish the concert could last all night and she can play all her hits plus the deep cuts even if she is sitting in a chair by the end of it. :-) :-) :-) :-)

They probably can cut some of the drum roll in the beginning of EO17 but that will hamper the chance to get up front to the stage for the handshakes .Make it longer like 20 minutes I say and git rid of the covers that ties up the time.It will give her more time with her fans.

I wonder if the last track on The Wild Heart bonus disc - "Wild Heart - Session" - might be or possibly include a take similar to the Rolling Stone shoot early version? Session could imply a combination of versions, maybe excerpts?

I wondered the same thing.

However, I'm really hoping it is something we've never heard.

But - I've been trying to re-create my very first Stevie demo cassettes from the 80s with hi-res sound and this is one of the tracks that has eluded me in good quality sound (along with the Silver Springs piano demo). So in that respect, I'd be happy to have the dressing room session.

It's true, I didn't see that.

However I see that they deemed Angel, Leather And Lace, Bella Donna and How Still My Love as "previously unreleased". It seems it's a miscellaneous of various outtakes from different gigs, maybe we're getting something unexpected.I vaguely recall that FM radio broadcast this expanded set in 1982 as part of the Superstars Rock Concert Series. You used to be able to buy the three-disc concert on vinyl. It's the same concert as the HBO video, but adds four or five songs from the same Fox Wilshire shows.

I had that 3LP set. Think I paid over $200.00 for that back
in the 80's. From Wynnco.

I contacted them about it not being "Wild Heart" material.
Got my money back (after recording it to tape). It's somewhere

I got the extended HBO show on tape around here somewhere and I got the 3 LP set here. Also I got the Source radio show LP set which I got off of Ebay a couple years ago cheap.I got so much stuff and I cant remember. Also I think the show was or still floating around online somewhere.I remember downloading it several times. My question is if they kept the cameras and video tape rolling through out the whole show and also if the raw footage was saved in a vault somewhere or it got erased or thrown into the rubbish over the years.I've dealt with Wynnco and did not like their inflated prices.I think I got videos or photos off them .I got most of my stevie/FM stuff from a nice fella in Texas back in the early 1990's .I'm glad that my neighbor at the time at the APT that introduced me to Goldmine Mag then. Thanks Jimmy.

BTW.All the cash spent back then and I wish I had enough cash to buy a Gold,Platinum wall plaque.

“I’ve had so much fun reliving the making of Bella Donna and The Wild Heart while working on the liner notes and listening to all of the alternate versions and demo takes,” Nicks commented in the original press release. “The liner notes are so much more than liner notes. They are like a little novel."

I hope that means she's also written about the songs that didn't make the actual album but are featured on the disc of outtakes (Gold & Braid, If You Were My Love, Blue Lamp, Dial The Number, Sorcerer, Garbo, Violet & Blue, ATBW, etc). I would find the stories of those songs JUST AS FASCINATING (if not more so) as the stories of the songs that made it onto the record.

I was doing some pre-holiday organizing last night and pulled out a box containing some very old CDs from the late nineties when I was heavy into collecting and trading Stevie demos, interviews and live shows.

I found a very high quality (but albeit an "audience recording") CD of the Forum show in L.A. Presumably the same show we are getting for this Bella Donna reissue.

I basically only listened to "Think About Out" and "Blue Lamp" which were both INCREDIBLE during this show. What a shame it is that we are not getting these songs on the Live Disc. Roy Bittan's piano playing is STELLAR on both of these, especially "Blue Lamp" where his part basically replaces the main guitar melody of the Studio Version.

To me, this is really the only thing that bums me out about this reissue. :distress:

Maybe in the next twenty years, these two gems can get the SUPER deluxe treatment?

I agree that the omission of "Think About It" and "Blue Lamp" from the live disc is a major disappointment. I have heard the bootleg of the full show as well and these two performances really stood out for me. A 7:36 long version of "Sable On Blonde"??!!! I think I'm in heaven!!! :blob2: I wonder if there are two or three more verses laid out here?

"Sorcerer" is 5:25 - making it twenty seconds longer than the Streets Of Fire version, which we all know kind of fades prematurely at the end during the part that Stevie has taken over the song. So I'm wondering if this IS, in fact, the same version but just with a lead vocal by Stevie?

Other interesting things to note in regards to the run times on "Bella Donna"...

The Alternate "Sleeping Angel" is only 4 seconds longer than the released version. This one probably isn't that much different, I'm guessing.

The Live "Edge Of Seventeen" is a minute longer than the one on "Enchanted", so either it's the unedited version of THAT (so we get all the "Edge Walk" music from the HBO show) or it's a completely different take from a different show, altogether. "Gold & Braid" also clocks in shorter than the "Enchanted" live version.

thanks for posting!

I can see why she said she had to go with the vocal from the demo because no matter how many times she tried she couldn't top it (the one that ended up on the record). It's great to hear, but she is a bit flat on this. As hot-mess as the version on record is, it definitely has a unique energy.

sorcerer999

Woah!

Hmmmm...her vocal is very rough here (but then that makes sense due to it being labeled "session take") so this is most likely a "scratch vocal", which is what vocalists do for the band whenever they are tracking. It keeps them in line so that they know where they are within the song.

I'm LOVING the musical arrangement here. THE BONGOS and percussion, especially! The lead electric guitars have a harder edge as well. And the piano arrangement is more intricate and delicate. Lovely!

Had they kept this musical arrangement and gotten a better vocal from Stevie, it would have been a powerhouse!!!

However, I still absolutely adore the original! SO GLAD this song is in her live set list!!! :blob1:

I like the piano much better on this version...it's Sandy on the demo and her piano playing always sounds very tinny and honky-tonk.. I can't tell if this is Roy or Benmont (Roy?) but it's a fuller, richer sound (like the piano on the song Bella Donna). Too bad they couldn't have lifted the other vocal onto this track!

The studio version is OK but I still prefer the dressingroom version. To bad there's not a better copy of that videotape anywhere for they can lift the sound from it and clean it up and release it.

I enjoy the gritty shreddiness of her voice in here but wild heart was never one of my favorite songs even though the entire album is fun. I’m on edge to hear all the beautiful worlds and sorcerer on the bonus songs cd.

Why don't you ask him?(Benmont)

Absolutely loving the drumming on this version. However nothing will ever top the photo shoot vocals.

Due to the drumming on this one, I was a little critical at first listen (thru my computer speakers). It sounds too polished for a demo/outtake (to my ears), as we know them for ages on our worn out tape-traded tapes. The drumtrack sounds too polished and crisp.

So I could not believe that it was a demo from 34 years ago and figured that it was produced later, like in melting a drumcomputer + pianotrack with some vocals ... and did they had drumcomputers in 1982?

But the again, isn't that how all songs are 'manufactured' :-)

But after some proper listens, I like the track!

That's because it's not a demo. This is an actual "session take" for what they hoped would make it onto the album. Not sure what "take number" it is, but that's the reason it all sounds so crisp and polished.

▪ Stevie Nicks, “Bella Donna (Deluxe)”, “The Wild Heart (Deluxe).” Stevie Nicks’ first two solo albums are remastered and expanded with demos and outtakes. “Bella Donna,” a No. 1 album in 1981, becomes a three-disc package, with a live disc from a short tour, highlighted by the 1981 outtake, “Gold and Braid” and a scorching cover of Tom Petty’s “I Need to Know.”

The outtakes include “Blue Lamp,” from the “Heavy Metal” soundtrack and “Sleeping Angel” from “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Also, a previously unreleased version of the non-LP track, “The Dealer,” and the title track’s demo.

“The Wild Heart” adds a second disc that includes a raw session outtake of the title track and “Violet and Blue” from the “Against All Odds” soundtrack. Also, unreleased versions of “All the Beautiful Worlds” and “Dial the Number” and the “Stand Back” single’s B-side, “Garbo.”

Well, I waited until the last minute and finally ordered both the BD and WH deluxe CD packages from Amazon.

I was hoping there would be a super-deluxe package or bundle with both the CD and the vinyl, and maybe even a little bonus like a litho or poster, but, alas, the opportunity to upsell me has been missed.

I just ordered all four items - both CD packages and both Vinyl packages. With Amazon's discount on pre-orders, it only cost me $81.00, which is actually cheaper than buying ONE Fleetwood Mac Deluxe album. :D

 I know, right? I am likely going to purchase the vinyl, too. But I want to buy it locally from my favorite record store (they have terrible prices on CDs), so I'll head up there this weekend and get them, probably.

I have original pressings of both albums, and they sound great, still. If the reissues aren't at least pressed on 180g or another heavyweight vinyl, I might pass on them altogether.

I know. I made a huge mistake by having them shipped to my home instead of the office. At the office, I'd have them before 4pm and could listen to them on the drive home.

...instead of speeding and driving like an a-hole to get home ASAP and "rescue" them from the porch.

There is some gorgeous harmonies on alt How Still My Love. This could be my new fave song.
Haha a very cool false start on Gold and Braid.
I Sing For The Things is the uptempo version but I think with extra harmonies unless it was the crap quality that hid them. Actually on closer inspection it could be a different vocal. Sable On Blonde is playing and it sounds amazing so far.
We're all in for such a treat with these deluxe albums!

Despite my earlier reservations about certain omissions, both albums sound fantastic and the bonus tracks are really worthwhile.
The versions of "If You Were My Love" and "The Dealer" are so obviously superior to the 24KG takes that it's verging on embarrassing. The HBO concert also sounds superb, with "Angel" being the standout for me.
The Wild Heart bonus tracks are equally wonderful with gorgeous versions of "I Sing For The Things", "Sable On Blond" (fabulous raw vocal), "All The Beautiful Worlds" (****s all over the 24KG version), "Sorcerer"(leaves the TISL version for dead) and "Dial The Number" (I always thought this was a dreary track but this recording is actually pretty impressive). Even "Are You Mine" is lovely.

As stated earlier, both editions are wonderful but for me, The Wild Heart contains the more solid collection of bonus tracks.
"I Sing For The Things" features a buoyant arrangement, nicely contrasted with a heartfelt, desolate vocal. The refrain of "anything - my love" is simply gorgeous.
"Sable On Blond" begins similarly to the Marilyn Martin version of "Sorcerer" with tinkling piano. It's almost epic, resplendent with exquisite piano fills throughout.
"All The Beautiful Worlds" features a more confident vocal than the demo we're used to and could well be the finished version rumoured to have been in consideration for the b-side of "Nightbird". The tempo during the chorus is far more satisfying than the slowed-down dirge on 24KG.
On "Sorcerer", Stevie doesn't attempt a falsetto vocal during the verses but nevertheless, she sounds fabulous throughout.
"Dial The Number" begins amusingly in almost Disney-esque fashion, but it's definitely the best version I've heard to date, featuring a supple, delicious vocal as opposed to the moanings from 1988.
Stevie's vocal on "Are You Mine" sounds more RAL era than 1983, but it's intimate and nicely executed.
When I first heard the "Wild Heart" session, I was disappointed but it's growing on me. It's undoubtedly a ragged vocal from Stevie but it's also an insight into how such a complex arrangement eventually came together.
I've always been a fan of "Violet & Blue" and "Garbo" so these round out the disc rather well. What a splendid affair!!

Can anyone share what the album art/liner notes look like? Did she write little blurbs about each song?

I'm still torn between buying the hard copies or just the iTunes download. My Macbook doesn't have a disc drive, so getting the songs from the discs to my computer and phone is so much easier if I just download from iTunes and share between my devices.

Listening to Bella Donna on Spotify right now! I'm going to wait until I'm back from my show to order the discs but I'm loving what I'm hearing so far. I actually really like this version of The Dealer! Haven't finished listening to all of The Wild Heart yet but since Sable on Blond is probably my favorite Stevie solo song I just had to hear that first! I'm in love with it!!! The opening is so beautiful and Stevie's vocals sound phenomenal! This version may surpass the album version for me

The album art has a TON of words. It's like a multi page essay. very excited to read it. BD has a ton of cover outtakes. Wild heart is that dull pink and tan color and doesnt really have standout art. BUT, it's nothing like Christopher would have designed. they are BOTH really nice... but compared to the TUSK reissue (an A+), Bella Donna is a B+ and Wilheart is barely a B-

But the essays are AMAZING!! Sable on Blonde is about her hair mixing with Jimmy's. That's quite the nugget of fandom!!

The liner notes are fantastic. It's like reading a few chapters in an official biography. I really do believe her now when she says things like, we don't know the whole story, things like "the feather that it was" being inspired by Sulamith Wulfing and Robin. She slowly reveals a little bit more about each song with each interview, each year that passes.

I know!!! That and the Sulamith picture that inspired her are like fitting the last few remaining puzzle pieces that create the whole picture. I'm SOOOO ready for her autobiography...and if not an autobiography, then at least a book recounting the inspiration for each song. That, in and of itself, might be more insightful and entertaining than an autobiography.

It's called "The Falling Leaf". See attached. Stevie saw the picture in a book that Mick gave her and wrote the lyrics to "Sable On Blonde" right inside the book next to the picture.

"Was it one falling leaf, like the feather that it was..."

She says that image was like how she felt about losing Robin, and also inspired "Nightbird".

Has anyone listened to these new remasters alongside the remasters from Enchanted and Crystal Visions? I think they're better than the CV remasters, which just seemed overly loud with loads of compression and brick-walling used. The new remasters seem more reminiscent of the original vinyl pressings. But they're a little muddy sounding compared with the Enchanted remasters - those are like an heaven!
