Pretenders vocalist Chrissie Hynde announces solo North American tour dates

If you haven’t thought about Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde in a while, now would be a good time to get reacquainted. The 62-year-old rock goddess issued a critically-acclaimed solo album earlier this summer, and now she has announced a 25-date theater tour in support of the record.
The trek begins on October 30 in Toronto. Noteworthy venues on the six-week tour include the Chicago Theatre, New York’s Beacon Theater, and the Masonic in San Francisco. Hynde’s final scheduled date is December 6 at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. Fans can register now for a ticket presale. During the upcoming tour, Hynde has promised to perform tracks from the new record, as well as classic Pretenders material.
In June, Hynde released Stockholm, the first solo album of her nearly 40-year career. The record received solid reviews and debuted at No. 36 on Billboard. Guests performers on Stockholm range from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Young to former tennis player John McEnroe, who contributes electric guitar.
Hynde has promoted the album with appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Colbert Report.” On “Colbert,” she engaged in witty banter with the host, who jokingly asked her why she had “rejected Lady Liberty” to live in England. “I’ve got my band there, and I go where the music is,” she replied, smiling. “Sort of ‘have band, will travel.’ I’m a citizen of the world. I’m a hippie, man.”
Stockholm features the lead single “Dark Sunglasses,” a polished bundle of rock energy. The track is accented by clattering percussion, a trademark of the song’s co-writer, Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John.

I"m really surprised at the large venues. I kind of thought both Stevie and the Pretenders were downsizing, which is awesome for fans. :) It's also strange because when you have two groups together like this, you get a lot of fans who come for just one of the performers, which usually means that they stick to very middle of the road setlists so the non fans will at least have heard some of the songs. But if Stevie really is going to do a lot of songs from 24 Karat (or is it Karak? :) ) Gold, it will mean all the Pretenders fans may get bored. But I'm still super excited to be able to hear some of 24 KG live. :)

i'm surprised at Nicks/the Pretenders combo, somehow i don't see people who like their music or their fan bases gelling very well. i don't think most Pretenders' fans know any of SN hits, other than Landslide, probably GDW and Edge, so it doesn't really matter what she plays, i suspect they'll leave either way. if they even come at all considering what seems to be close seats small theater prices for far away arena seats.

I never really understand the presales. I mean, I get the AMEX one is for people who have amex cards, but what is the VIP presale? Also, I'd be hesitant to pay too much for Stevie VIP tickets only to have people from the nosebleeds bum rush the stage. It would be like paying $500. bucks just for the "exclusive" t shirt.

I've never had such mixd feelings about a Stevie tour. She has talked for awhile about wanting to tour with a deeper set list and do songs she's never done like kind of woman, sable on blonde , a title song medley etc.. And I've always felt a tour called "tour from the vault to accompany the 24 KG album was the perfect time to do that. I also felt that fall. 2016 was the perfect time to do that! Then fleetwood Mac could finish the album in Mach/April.
And now it appears she s "kind of" doing just that. If the rumours are true, this set will be very heavy on new songs . And honestly with 24kg songs she kind of kills 2 birds by playing a "new" song and a lost. Classic all at the same time as far as fans like us are concerned.
But the venue is all wrong. This should be a theatre tour, with no pretenders. Come on Stevie's, artists even more popular and we'll respected then you have gone the theatre route. And those about at her level Alldo theaters. There would be no shame. I can't see this arena shi* going well. No matter how you slice it.either she will play it way safer the we're being told due to the larger mind audience or she'll actually have the balls to give us what we want and her ego won't be able to take the rejection she'll surely receive . If we were dealing with someone who doesn't care what people think so much this wouldn't be an issue but unfortunately stevie does. Or a third scenerio where the tour gets scraped due to such low ticket sales.
And then there's the damn article that. Baffles the crap out d me more then anything stevie has ever said or done before. NOTHING ELSE TO DO stevie . The other 4 need to grow some balls and address this. Stevie is out of control at the moment. The fact she didn't even acknowledge her lack of involvement in the album tie unacceptable.

it's about money and if the tour is scrapped it's was because of poor decision making not by my not wanting to spend money on an over inflated priced ticket , I don't see her filling an arena , if she does good for her , but at this point in her career i don't want to see her in arena she doesn't do the elaborate stages or any choreography needed to captivate the audience or justify the price ,,,,,, Like at Cesar's Palace she had a platform built in the center of that HUGE stage and never left it zzzzzzzzzz and how many Pretender fans want to see them as an opening act for stevie nicks ?
and I would love a fresh new set ,song we haven't heard in a theater setting would have been amazing just her no opening act .... and an acoustic set too

Ticket prices are high for most artists. I don't see them overly inflated for Stevie. Why I hesitate to see another Stevie concert is her set list. I defended her for years on her ritual repetitive and short sets. She has tremendous material that she never does.
Paul McCartney is much older than her and plays guitar and has twice the set list as Stevie.
I would kill to see or pay $500 for last row:
I cant wait - full rock version opener
Sable on Blonde - its not dreams but better
Crying in the night - where it all started
Stop Draggin My Heart Around - biggest solo single and first solo single
All the beautiful worlds - 24k Gold promotion
Bella Donna - nuff said
Nothing ever changes - get on your feet
Sleeping Angel
Long Way to Go - it was practiced to be live in 1994
Stand Back - not for me but for the casual fan
How Still My Love
Blue Lamp
Gold and Braid
Violet and Blue
Listen to the Rain - Street Angel greatness
Love is
Rhiannon - for the casual fan

Stevie loooooooves playing arenas. She's bragged about being in one of the few bands that still plays arenas. Didn't Lindsey even crack a joke that every night she tells the stories about opening for Joplin etc that the number of people in the crowd gets larger every night? 15k,25k, 50k. Let's face it, it's all about her ego.
I saw her in 2005 at Blossom music center and even then she couldn't fill out the pavilion. There were a few people in the lawn.
What nobody probably wants to tell her and probably hasn't so far - she can't play arenas unless she pairs up with another act at this point. Most likely that's why she did the Rod Stewart tour etc. She could do the theatre circuit no problem, but the money wouldn't be nearly as good.
I love her, but her attitude is so much different than it was between 1997-2001. That modest, down to earth, graciousness just hasn't been there in the same capacity in a long time, I miss that more than anything.

In my opinion, this BS about really enjoying being part of the Fleetwood Mac team is crap. Every time she is on the team all she can do is talk about getting off the team ASAP. If she really enjoyed being on the team, you might make sure that your Rolling Stone cover story didn't crap all over the band while still mid tour.

Gary, Columbus to Nashville is only a six hour drive. That's not too bad. Less than a full work day. You should come down here on a Sunday and then tour Nashville during the day before seeing Monday night's show. :)
Hi. Thanks for the suggestion but that is still quite a trip. I couldn't trust the weather. I would love to go Nashville during the summer or spring and visit the Opry. I'm upset with Stevie. She needs to schedule date in Columbus Ohio. Hell, Chrissie is from Ohio.

Wow, Sands Bethlehem is sold out before the public onsale.... smaller venue compared to the others, but this is surprising given the prices!

Yeah - WTF - Mohegan has no tickets available @ 10am either. I never have luck with this Mohegan Sun arena. All the tickets are set aside for high rollers - I'm convinced.

I'm actually upset because I was given 2 ticket vouchers for General Admission seating at an event and had them set aside just in case Stevie went on tour, but since she's doing arenas, most of them don't do General Admission seating and the closest to me is Michigan and Auburn Hills doesn't have GA and Grand Rapids GA says no tickets available. Oh well, I would be taking a huge gamble on planning to drive from Ohio to Michigan in late November anyway. :distress:

I wonder if the TM site crashed or it got loaded down with buyers.I had that happen in the past.I'll be surprised if the presales cleaned all of them out.I remember at one Stevie show which was at The Turningstone casino in upstate New York when TM or their online tix site was doing the same thing as nothing coming up as the sales start .After dealing with that BS.What I did was call the Turningstone Box office up on the phone and end up getting front row seats at regular price. The lady said that their policy is to hold seats for walk in's and telephone orders.I almost died getting those seats. At another time I had the same issues with TM website with crap seats so I took off a half day from work and drove to Foxwoods Casino box office and see if I can get good tickets. No freaking luck there as they were offering the same crap seats. What a waste of trip and a half vacation day from work. All venues are different so be careful.
BTW I thought the venues y suppose to hold tix for the general sale and the box office and local phone orders..

With the latest news that Stevie will be including songs such as Rooms on Fire to her set and other popular songs that she hasn't done for a while, it looks like this tour has a good chance of coming to Europe.
She could easily fill venues here in the UK. Ok, maybe not the O2 arena in London with a capacity of 20,000+ but the main arena in my city holds around 8,000 and I know that with her popularity here she could definitely fill most of that, if not all of it.
Please come to Europe Stevie!

Chrissie Hynde? Maybe Stevie should scrape the barrel a bit more and book Pat Benatar as well. She probably won’t bring the tour to Europe, so my enthusiasm and excitement for it are non-existent. She's kidding herself if she thinks she will sell out those venues, she barely managed to do it at the peak of her career in the 1980s. She needs to swallow her pride and play theatres. Her idea of shaking up the set list will probably be nothing more than adding a few songs from 24 Karat Gold alongside the same old staples. She has a huge back catalogue that she ignores every time she goes out on the road, she's dull nowadays, it's no wonder people see her as a has-been. To be honest, her attitude towards Fleetwood Mac over the last year is disappointing. She always said she would love Christine to come back, but she can't even give the band three songs to play around with in the studio, it would serve her right if they forge on ahead without her.

pretty sure that's what Rod Stewart fans thought when Stevie was desperate to reclaim a an audience that wrote her off and forgot about her when she was his opening act not too long ago, and she got up on stage with him and stood there behind a mike stand

Pleasure to meet another Stevie fan! As for scraping the barrel, I'm a huge fan of Pat Benatar and agree that would be a great double bill. I'm sure you remember when Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, and REO Speedwagon toured together in the 1990's.

Travel Weekly Stevie Nicks to open Park Theater
By Tovin Lapan / October 17, 2016
http://www.travelweekly.com/North-America-Travel/Stevie-Nicks-to-open-Park-Theater
Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks will headline the first concert at the forthcoming Park Theater at Monte Carlo.
The performance by the singer and songwriter will be Dec. 17, and will also feature the Pretenders. The 5,000-seat theater features a layout with no seat farther than 145 feet from the stage and a host of technological bells and whistles including a 240-foot-wide immersive projection surface, 3-D motion graphics and an 80-foot-wide LED display with 4K resolution.
"Stevie Nicks is a legend in the music industry, and we are thrilled she will be the first to perform in our new Park Theater," said Richard Sturm, president of entertainment for MGM Resorts International, in a release. "We have had the opportunity to host a number of Stevie's previous Las Vegas shows, and we know she will give her fans another sensational performance in December."
Nicks, a multiplatinum-selling artist, has had six top 10 albums and eight Grammy nominations. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, Nicks performed 122 sold-out shows around the world in 2014 and 2015. As a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks has sold more than 140 million albums.
Park Theater will serve as the gateway to MGM Resorts' the Park entertainment district, tucked between New York-New York and Monte Carlo and punctuated by the recently opened T-Mobile Arena. The Park Theater is the first step in the renovation of the Monte Carlo.
"This new space is unlike any venue in the MGM Resorts portfolio. Guests will be wowed to see their favorite entertainers, like Stevie, in such an intimate environment with unbelievable sound and video capabilities," Sturm said. "And no guest should miss having a drink on one of our outdoor terraces overlooking the T-Mobile Arena and the Park, the city's newest outdoor dining and entertainment district."
Tickets start at $95, and can be purchased at parktheaterlv.com. Tickets also can be purchased through the MGM Resorts Call Center at 866-740-7711. For more information, visit parktheaterlv.com.

I'm super confident it's really happening. 60 Minutes is running ads for this Sunday night, featuring both Stevie and Chrissie Hynde. I only just caught the end of the ad, but the voice over was worded such that it sounded like they were on their way! The Pretenders have shows in the UK until mid October but nothing after that, so that fits with Stevie's mention of leaving for Australia in "late October" (though it still might be later than that in reality).
Pretty much all FM/Stevie tours here coincide with a 60 Minutes story, so I'm hoping for a proper announcement in the next week :]

I agree completely. Hyde Park was magic, but way to short.
On the other hand, we had a chat with some other Dutch fans while waiting upfront with venue she would sell out ... she isn't that well known anymore overhere ... so I doubt it, it'll be worth it (financially).

Herald Sun, Melbourne, 13 Aug 2017
EVERY night before she goes onstage, Stevie Nicks has a longstanding ritual.
“I make my little mix tapes, and I play them and I twirl around and dance my way through three hours of make-up and getting ready,” the rock legend tells Stellar, adding that her current playlist features Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez.
“I like to keep up with what’s current and, honestly, if I wasn’t touring I would still be listening to music and dancing around my house.”

When Stellar speaks to the Fleetwood Mac icon it’s close to midnight, but Nicks — a lifelong insomniac — is right in the middle of her day.
“It’s the best part and most zen part of my whole day,” Nicks says, adding that she stays up “writing in my journal — poetry, songs, movie ideas, anything”.
“It’s peaceful because everybody is asleep except you. It’s when I feel the most creative and also my most calm.”
At 69 (she’ll turn 70 next May), Nicks’s frantic itinerary is enough to make any average person want to lie down.
In the three weeks before meeting with Stellar, she’s pinballed between a solo gig in France, a massive Hyde Park show in London with her old musician mate Tom Petty, a Los Angeles stadium concert with Fleetwood Mac, a 70th birthday show in Texas for another good friend (and former flame), Don Henley of the Eagles, and now she’s in New York where she’ll play another stadium gig with Fleetwood Mac.
“I have a love of music that goes far beyond what I do onstage.”
“Sometimes I would like a serious vacation, you know, like two months in Hawaii with my dog, because at times you feel like you hit a wall,” she admits.
“But there is always going to be that knock on the door and I’m always going to be called back to one of the two big things in my life, which is basically either Fleetwood Mac or my solo career.”
But even after her phenomenal success (between them both she’s sold some 140 million records, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time), Nicks still has a compulsion to work as hard as ever. She’s also been open in the past about choosing her art over getting married and having a family.
“I have a love of music that goes far beyond what I do onstage,” she says.
Like the title of one of her most famous songs, Gypsy, Nicks got a taste of the nomadic life early on when her father would move the family around with his work, and decades later the lifestyle still suits her.
Picture: Danny Clinch/Contour.
“I could roll with that. I was able to go into new schools and make new friends. My brother, on the other hand, didn’t cope with it so well,” she recalls.
“So the thing is, am I still that gypsy? Well, I was always that gypsy.”
In recent years, her life has been split between her solo tours and Fleetwood Mac’s massive touring commitments. But returning to Fleetwood Mac, one of music’s most dysfunctional families, comes with its own issues.
“Compromise with Fleetwood Mac has always been an ongoing challenge because we seldom agree on anything,” Nicks confirms.
“Everybody has a big, huge opinion and you make your choice — is it worth fighting about? Is it worth throwing the next two days of rehearsals away because everybody is pissed off? Or is it worth fighting for something you believe in?
“Lindsey and I never see each other.”
“It’s like being a politician in a lot of ways; you have to choose your battles, and sometimes you have to let things go even when you don’t want to.”
These days, the singer says her relationships with famous bandmates Christine McVie (“Chris and I have been the best of girlfriends since the day I joined Fleetwood Mac”), John McVie (“I adore him”) and Mick Fleetwood (“I’m godmother to his daughters”) will go beyond whenever it is that Fleetwood Mac ends.
But her friendship with former love and musical collaborator Lindsey Buckingham remains tricky.
The pair met while they were both at high school in California and formed musical duo Buckingham Nicks in 1972 before joining Fleetwood Mac three years later.
Nicks had never met Chrissie Hynde before deciding to tour with her. Picture: Solar/Ace Pictures
Their combustible relationship, particularly leading up to the legendary 1977 album Rumours, spurned hits such as Go Your Own Way, Dreams and Landslide.
“Lindsey and I never see each other. He has a family — a wife and children — and I do not have a husband or children. I mean, it’s just a different world,” she says.
“The thing is, I work with Lindsey when we have to work together, but his whole deal is very different than mine. He has to leave at 7pm at night to get home and have dinner with his children, and then he has to get up early with them.
“Like, are you kidding? I don’t even get up until 3pm and he wants me at rehearsal at 2pm? No, our lives are so diametrically opposed. So that’s kind of where our relationship is.”
Recently, Nicks has been enjoying touring with Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders, and will bring the tour to Australian shores in November. The two icons, surprisingly, had never even met before making the decision to tour together.
“I always have a really good time [in Australia] because it’s a very special place.”
“The first time I met Chrissie, I was playing a show at this big arena, and my hair was in rollers and I was wearing these big black glasses, being driven around on a golf cart. And she saw me and started laughing, and I said, ‘I know, I look ridiculous — I am ridiculous,’ and she said, ‘No, you look like Elizabeth Taylor. I’m touring with Elizabeth Taylor.’”
And Nicks, who has been a frequent visitor to Australia, can’t wait to return.
“I always have a really good time [in Australia] because it’s a very special place and I have really great friends there, and it’s very different from the United States,” she says.
“It’s a friendlier place and it reminds me of how the US used to be. And with everything that’s going on in the political landscape right now, it’ll be nice to go to Australia and get out of here for a while.”
Fleetwood Mac in 1980: From left, John McVie, Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and Lindsay Buckingham.
She has also been enjoying the tour because it’s given her the luxury of performing some rare solo songs and some newer material she’s either never or rarely performed.
“I’ve had to wait until I’m in my sixties to play some of these songs,” she says with a laugh.
“And I’m so pleased because it’s that that makes me want to continue to tour. If I have to go out there and do the same songs every single time I go on the road, it gets boring and it’s not very creative after a while.”
One hit she does perform is the 1986 classic ‘Stand Back’, which originally featured her friend Prince on keyboards.
“Prince spent a lot of time worrying about me,” she remembers.
“Our friendship was kind of odd; we didn’t see each other that often, but when we did we really were musically very tight. But he was always worried about my drug habits; he always thought I was going to have an accidental drug overdose and die.”
“There would be cough medicine for my throat, but he would only let me have a spoonful.”
When Nicks was struggling with addiction, she recalls Prince coming to visit her with little care packages. She’s previously said that she spent “millions” on cocaine in the ’70s and ’80s and also had an eight-year addiction to prescription drug Klonopin, until eventually getting
clean in 1994.
“There would be cough medicine for my throat, but he would only let me have a spoonful. I’d be like, ‘Chill out, my friend, I can have another one,’ and he’d say, ‘I did not come here to start new drug habits for you.’”
Sixteen months later, Nicks is still grieving over Prince’s death.
“The fact that my friend, who was so anti-drugs, is not here is so disturbing to me. I miss him.”
When it comes to herself, Nicks is not one for reflection and finds the idea of being referred to as an icon almost absurd.
On the cover of best-selling album Rumours with Mick Fleetwood.
“It’s really nice to know and people tell me that, and I feel a great amount of pride, but at the same time that person — basically the person I am onstage except in much better clothes and much better hair and with heels on — is really the same person I am sitting here right now,” she says.
“I’m pretty much the same person that I’ve always been. I’m nice part of the time and irritated part of the time; that’s really who I am, and I’ve never changed since I joined Fleetwood Mac.”
When Nicks surveys the music industry landscape today, she reckons it’s become difficult for emerging artists.
“We believed that what we had to offer the world was really spectacular.”
“You have one big song and you better follow it up, because they will just find somebody who is younger and cuter than you are.”
“It’s a battle,” she continues.
“And I don’t know what I would do if I was 21 and in their position. The only thing you can say is that Lindsey and I really believed that we were very good and that we were really, really special. We just believed in ourselves and we believed that what we had to offer the world was really spectacular. It sounds conceited but it wasn’t. We just weren’t going to give up.”
She also has concerns with the lack of control musicians today have over their own work.
Stevie Nicks is in Stellar magazine. (Pic: Tane Coffin for Stellar)
“I love a lot of current music, but a lot of these artists are being told what to do by producers and the record companies. You know, their songs are all starting to sound very much the same to me, and that bothers me because I think, ‘I really like that song, but the production sounds just like the production on the song before it and that’s kind of a turn-off.’”
She remains optimistic, though.
“I love Harry Styles; he’s so cute and charming and I think he can do anything he sets his mind to. And there’s a Fleetwood Mac and a Led Zeppelin out there somewhere. Whether or not they’ll ever be able to rise to the top is the question, because the industry slaps them down, but my advice would be to any musician is just don’t give up. Believe in yourself.”
With that, she gets set to go back to her evening, but sleep is still a while off.
“I have this thing, like between 3am and 5am, when it starts to get light and it’s really beautiful, and I just sit there and I drink tea and I read Vogue and I just look out and think, ‘Why would I want to be asleep right now? Why would I want to miss out on all of this beauty?’”

Wow, those LiveNation pre sale tickets are going fast. Managed row 4 in the center, for Sydney, but only one. My sister will be sitting further back because only single seats were available.
My advice for the general sale tomorrow at 11am is be logged in and ready for 11am sharp if you want good seats. Good luck everyone!:]

I'll be attending the show in Brisbane and, thankfully, the winery/Day on the Green events don't seem to have any VIP packages. Hoping I can snag something in the first few rows!
Did you get your tickets yet? I would love to do The Day On The Green events but money is not that plentiful atm. Hope you get great seats:)

I had the most ridiculous good luck. I got on at 10am this morning for the Day on the Green member presale, and my first pick was Platinum Row Z. I put them back and was pulling up nothing but Gold for the next 15 minutes. I was just about to surrender and try again tomorrow (I couldn't face another "I'm not a robot" check) and I pulled up FRONT ROW CENTRE! I couldn't believe it, and I in fact still keep checking my receipt to make sure I haven't made a mistake  Honestly, I would've been happy with anything in the first five or six rows. I'm so excited.

OMG. That is awesome. What a top score, good on you. Kept checking your receipt - that just made me laugh out loud. Congrats!

Thanks all for sharing in my excitement
The Brisbane show sold out within a day or so, which is fantastic news.

I personally don't, but does anyone think Stevie might tweak her setlist for the Aussie shows, like Fleetwood Mac did on their last tour?
I would love to witness a rollicking version of Angel, like from HBO, but seriously doubt there'll be any surprises. A boy can dream:rolleyes:though.

Thanks, I added it to the Masterpost (and also updated the link of the tour dates thread putting this merged with the old one).

Moonlight and its stories should be exciting in Australia because she wrote it in Brisbane! I look forward to seeing or hearing the recordings that get posted! Thank u in advance to anyone who posts these😁

She did speak about writing Moonlight when she was here in 2011. This video (not mine) captures most of the story.

Extra trivia: Based on that story (and the snippet of the room we see in the IYD doco), I believe the hotel she was staying at was The Stamford Plaza. Specifically this room: https://m.stamford.com.au/spb/brisbane-hotel-accommodation/the-stamford-suite
Nothing but the best for Stevie!
