I'm not exactly sure how Stevie and Sandy met, but why did they seem to stop talking after Cat Dancer? I read somewhere that the two had a falling out, and as a result Stevie's vocals on songs from the album were cut back. However, Sandy appeared on The Wild Heart a year earlier and co-wrote several songs. Sandy even released her album on Modern!

Naw they still tight. Sandy wrote Maybe Love, if I remember right. And Everyday maybe too.

I don't recall ever hearing anything of a "falling out" with them. From what Stevie has mentioned in interviews, they are still close. And yes, after the "Wild Heart" and "Cat Dancer" albums, Sandy wrote "Seven Wonders", "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" and "Too Far From Texas" for Stevie to record. After decades of collaborations, that seems to suggest they're still friends.

I live in Houston, Texas, and apparently Sandy Stewart lives here. I attended the Houston date of the "Trouble in Shangri-La" Tour in 2001. Before Stevie launched into the song "Too Far From Texas" (which was written by Sandy), she told the audience that her friend Sandy Stewart was in the audience that night, "The writer of this next song is here".
As previously stated, Sandy has written many songs for Stevie post 1984. While I don't think they are really close anymore, I can only assume that the two remain distant, peaceful friends.
I also read the article about the conflict during the recording of Sandy's "Cat Dancer" album. It seems that, as the album was nearing the finishing stages, they brought Stevie into the studio to lay down some background vocals on what was supposed to be 2 songs, plus the duet "I Pretend". Word had it that Stevie stayed in the studio of SEVERAL LATE NIGHTS putting down background vocals ALL OVER THE ALBUM. Almost every song had Stevie oohing, aaahing, and howling in various improvised manner. Apparently, Sandy had some of the backing vocals taken out and shelved, and some folks in Stevie's camp didn't appreciate this as her presence on the album would have been a selling point for a new, unknown artist. I'm not sure how true ANY OF THIS STORY IS, it was only written about.
