It's me :) ranting about pharmaceuticals again.... ;)

Here's a good example of someone on too many meds (including oxycodone). I hope he can turn things around

I'm not a rawfoodist. I eat plenty of cooked foods, but I do find raw foods helpful in staying healthy.

Maybe I'll post a follow up video to see how he's getting along.

'Murican love their crap food and pharmaceuticals , I have been (mostly )vegan for a few years , i eat clean meat ( organic ) 1 -2 times a month no white foods or refined sugar . I was borderline everything I have beat it all with out drugs . and it's was cheaper too .

It was easy , because I wanted to do it , giving it up ( the traditional american diet ) was the best thing I ever did . There are times when I have no choice and eat off my regular diet , and I get sick from some things , I had pizza last week and felt horrible the next day

There are so many simple changes people can make to change their heath , but refuse to give up the junk and convenience foods .

it is good to rant against pharmaceuticals it may help open the eyes of someone and help them , I know it helped me

Hyppocrates said: "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" and I agree. An unhealthy diet can cause a lot of illness and a lot of diseases can be eased by a healthy diet.

I've always wondered particularly about the US eating habits, along with those of other countries. I've always believed that even if there was a root of truth, the conviction that Americans eat only prepackaged foods was a bit a stereotype spread by television. Then years ago my friend hosted an American girl for an intercultural exchange. She thought we ate too much because at home she used to eat only sandwiches. When we offered her a bruschetta with extravirgin olive oil she looked at us like we were crazy and said that it was too fatty. She was worryingly overweight.

I've seen a video of a US exchange student that lately has become famous on youtube says that in America fruits and vegetables costs 3 times more than here and in her opinion there's a lobby conspiracy that wants americans to become/stay fat. That was funny to say the least but probably industry surely takes advantage and further spreads bad eating habits. In the same video she also said that she spends just 20 Euros (22,70$) per week on food and she buys one vegetable of each kind and it suffices. I still don't know why youtube dumped her video on me but it was an interesting quarter-hour.

However I think everywhere people are becoming more and more ignorant about diet. Even here where it's pretty normal to cook a full meal everyday and healtier foods are part of the traditional diet, readymade it's becoming quite common. Almost all of my fellow University students can barely cook.

as i mentioned my pet peeve is SHEEPLE !

the Hollywood image of the Steak and Potato man and the children who are appalled by broccoli / vegetables have helped shape the American diet along with the heavy advertising of fast food and very healthy does of Laziness you can buy a pre made frozen Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich fully loaded with chemicals for the " busy mom " to serve their children , it's pretty sad if you can't slap together a sandwich for your children .

I had to search for sheeple on google and this is the result, do you confirm it?
Sheeple
People unable to think for themselves. Followers. Lemmings. Those with no cognitive ablilities of their own.
All the teens were wearing bell-bottoms because they were sheeple.

However yes, if you even can't make a sandwich for your children is very sad. It would be so easy to just cut a slice bread and put something on it. When I was little and my old aunt was baysitting me while my mother was working she always made bread and olive oil or bread, sugar and wine for me.

However I eat raw tomatoes most days, why do almost all of you can't stand them?

I understand. Or better no, but as my bestfriend's dad says "even **** is good if it's fried".
However I have to make a note, tomatoes are healthier raw when they're still a bit unripe and cooked when they're ripe.

P.S. I don't know what to say so I'll just say that those things are fried in the wrong way, I can see it from the inside.

Yes, that does resemble my school lunch when I had full-time school. I have to say though that in Italy is more frequent to eat lunch at home as most of the schools work only in the morning.
For example in middle school I had twice a week full-time, meaning that I had class also in the afternoon, and one afternoon was organized for the students to have tutoring lessons on the subjects they were less good at, while the other was for extra-curricular classes of our choice, cinematoghraphy, bricolage, art, drama and choir.
And I'd like to say that that thing above wasn't a parmigiana.

what is very sad is that it is not a secret , the American diet/ dependency on pharmaceuticals there are countless documentaries

from the government study of the residents of Bogalusa, Louisiana, some include from childhood to adults featured in he Weight of the Nation

there is FOOD INC , Supersize me and forks over knives

what is worse is the Game show Biggest loser a weight loss competition / reality show

and it's probably not going to get better

I'm mostly vegan too. I eat eggs sometimes, goats yogurt and then fish when I'm away but I stick to mostly plant foods at home. I got into bad habits a couple of years ago with processed food, coffee and probably too much stress and got gastritis which has forced me to be really careful with my diet. I find one of the worst things for me is wheat and too much grain so I eat a lot of lentils, tofu, quinoa, buckwheat, coconut etc. I can't believe how much better I feel since sorting my diet out. I literally felt like I had no energy a couple of years ago with constant stomach pain, it was horrible. Instead of taking the pills, I found out what the source of the problem was, as drugs often just mask things. It took about 3 years to really work out what was the best diet for me, lots of trial and loads of error, but worth the effort in the end.

It is. But I also would like to add that like Paracelsus said "It's the dosage that makes the poison" (Sorry, I studied Latin in school).

If someone once in a while wants to eat fry stuff it's not a big deal, if it's like once every three weeks or even less. Also if you fry food at your home in the right way, with good ingredients and the right type of oil it's not particularly risky. I love when during the Easter period we make strufoli and fried courgette flowers.

Also there are some times that you can only rely on ready-made. For example even if in my family we like to cook pretty much everything by ourselves, there are still those days simply noone can be at home in time to prepare lunch and we have to buy something at the roasted goods or take some seitan burgers from the freezer.

Yes you're right, most bodies can deal with some fried foods, ready meals etc. It's just those that olive posted above look awful. Chips/fries and semi-healthy ready meal is one thing, but giving kids Smuckers Uncrustables instead of a sandwich is not good - I can't say anything positive about that

I imagine Italians having a reasonably healthy diet, we generally think in the UK that the Mediterranean diet is better than ours. I love to go on holiday to Greece as I love the fresh fruit, feta cheese, fish, olives etc. I watched a program about an old Italian couple that had some land and they were almost totally self sufficient making their own olive oil, wine and even pasta - they looked very healthy and happy.

It's true, generally we countries that live in the Mediterranean basin are luckier, it's easier to eat healty when there are opportunities and means to expand on agriculture.

And yes, those things above are abominations, especially that "Parmagiana" that for me it's almost insulting. When I see in TV programs those things usually passed off as Italian foods almost all of them are on the brink of insulting if not ridiculous. And I mean it's insulting to food and insulting to people who eat it.For example this is a real Parmigiana (it's written with an I):

http://alice.tv/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/2016/04/parmigiana.jpg

It's like a lasagna made with fried eggplants. It's called like this because it's used Parmigiano, the Parmesan cheese. Chicken Parmigiana doesn't exist.

Also pizza's dough has to rise for 72 hour or the yeast will react with your gastric juices and finish the fermentation in your stomach. The food industry will start to change only if the demand of healthier foods will increase.

Yes, in my family we make our own oil and wine too, here in middle Italy it's still pretty common. We make our own pasta only for the Sunday big lunch because italian home-made pasta is with eggs and you certainly can't eat it everyday. Also my father likes to search for mushrooms as a hobby and we have a nice reserve.

Exactly, it's made from layers of fried eggplants slices, tomato sauce and mozzarella pieces, all topped with Parmesan and put in the oven until the cheese makes a gold crust.
Perhaps they're called "Parmagiana" just because the chicken is seasoned with cheese and tomatoes like the eggplants?
And you should see the faces of American tourists when they discover that Fettuccini Alfredo don't exist.

Six Tacos

And that movie is not available on Netflix or Amazon.

Too bad, I guess it's too old to find in english on Amazon. You can substitute with any other movie by Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldo,_Giovanni_%26_Giacomo).

I'm marveled by the quantity of proteins you can stuff in yourself. I couldn't do it, my intestines would rebel against me.

However to stay more on topic, there's currently a feud in my home. My father has a little bit of proteinuria (or stomatitis?), and he laments that he feels tired because of it. These last few months we reduced the meat on our table and ate more legumes, fish and above all seitan instead. Now since he doesn't like seitan he started to lament that it's our fault we never cook meat for him, like it's the only source of proteins. The funny thing is he doesn't even like meat, he'd eat only pasta most of the time. Usually If I/we don't say anything he'd eat a double serving of pasta, and then a derisory quantity of meat and vegetables with lots of bread to "swallow the bitter pill" and a quarter of an apple. Since when we've reduced the meat on our diet he has lost a few pounds and his blood test have been perfect, although I have to say he never had too much issues with that apart from a bit of cholesterol.
Today we cooked hambugers, now I want to see how much he will keep on bugging everyone until his next check-up.

there was a rebellion.

The 6 taco thing is kind of a joke between my
