It's Official:
According to the AP, Hillary is the presumptive democratic nominee for POTUS. She has passed her required delegates to grab the nomination, because of the Puerto Rico primary.
Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein will all be on the ballet.
We have now narrowed our three, debatable threads down to this one.... Who will win the presidency?

Starting this thread so people have a place to share / post / debate whatever news articles / opinions /pictures or anything else relating to the 2016 election they feel like sharing WITHOUT having to worry about it (the thread) randomly being closed...
So these are some current issues..
Will Bernie continue his fight all the way to the convention?
Will the "Tell All" book coming out by the former Secret Service agent about Hillary have an impact on her viability as a candidate?
Will Hillary be indicted ?
Will Donald Trump calm down with his rhetoric and start to make some sense?
If Hillary is brought up on charges who will replace her as candidate?
How will Donald Trump hold up in the debates against Hillary...Or if she is removed, Bernie, Biden or whoever takes her place...
The thread is now open...GO!!!

I hope Bernie will fight with her at the convention.Mr Trump more likely beat Bernie but he probably will have resistance with Mr Biden that if Hillary gets tossed out due to her issues.I think Mr Trump wont calm down or wimp out and be presidential as he said in an interview.

Hillary may not to want to count her chicken before they're hatched...
Hillary has some 575 "Super Delegates" who can vote for whoever they feel like...If something truly scandalous happens before the convention and they flip and go with Bernie there's still an outside chance he could win...With polls showing Bernie having an easier time beating Trump than Clinton...
Bernie is still doing the math...If Hillary loses her "Super Delegates" right now and they go with Bernie he would be around 350 votes ahead of Clinton.

I wonder if Senator Sanders will endorse Secretary Clinton.
Odds are very high that he will. Hillary Clinton ran her campaign against Barack Obama until the very end of the primary season in 2008, just like Bernie Sanders has done against her, yet Clinton did endorse Obama in the end. Not just that, she went on to work in his administration. The 2008 primary campaign was every bit as acrimonious as this one. Sanders will tow the party line. As a self proclaimed socialist and populist, he has little choice other than to unite behind the party & its nominee. Will he continue doing everything he can publicly and privately to push his agenda upon Clinton? I think that's a certainty.
To me, the more interesting question is what will happen to Sanders after the general election. I cannot foresee Clinton would chose him as her running mate. So will he just return to being a senator and sort of a party elder who tries to push the democrats leftward? Or will he be asked to be in a possible Clinton cabinet?

That would be interesting .They will bury the hatchet with all the things they said and team up. Atlease he will get the VP position and his voters will be alittle happier and vote for her instead of voting for a 3 party and Mr Trump. She could offer him a position in her cabinet.Stuff between them was not bad as Mr Trump and his 16 or 17 opponents .Of course lets see what will happen at the DNC convention.

California could be Bernie Sanders' last stand, but losing to him would mean a limp across the finish line for Hillary Clinton.
Amanda Walker US Correspondent
It's eight years to the day that Hillary Clinton withdrew from the race against then Senator Barack Obama.
She's hoping her current rival will follow suit now that the latest Associated Press count indicates she has reached the necessary number of delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination.
Dogged to the last, Bernie Sanders has other ideas.
On Monday, raspy-voiced after months on the campaign trail, he insisted he will not back down.
Bernie Sanders Campaigns In California Ahead Of State Primary
Bernie Sanders has won 20 states and more than 10 million votes
His hope is that a good performance in tomorrow's primaries could sway superdelegates, who are free to support any candidate.
Because superdelegates can change their minds up until the party's convention in July, Mr Sanders argues that Mrs Clinton will not officially have clinched anything.
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton attends a panel on healthcare in San Juan Play video "Who is Hillary Clinton?"
He said: "When we started this campaign a little over a year ago in Burlington, Vermont I think people ... thought this campaign would not go very far."
They did and they were wrong.
While the noise of the Trump show has drowned out most things in its path, the Sanders campaign has maintained its ability to astonish - enthusing young voters and consistently drawing huge crowds.
He's won 20 states and more than 10 million votes.
The senator from Vermont has proved himself a force to be reckoned with against a formidable opponent.
But California could be his last stand. It's America's largest and one of its most progressive states. It really matters for Mrs Clinton.
The polls put her in a virtual tie against Mr Sanders with three recent polls all showing her leading by just 2%.
Losing to Mr Sanders would mean an embarrassing limp across the finish line after a hard-fought race.
If she wins it sets the stage for a stronger fight against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
For Mr Sanders it leaves a tough dilemma - stay in or quit the race.
Mrs Clinton has the experience, money and support that should have made this look easy.
In California, Hollywood royalty including George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck are rallying around her.
But Mr Sanders is also in good company - Susan Sarandon is a vehement follower and Steven Spielberg is also "Feeling the Bern".
Mr Sanders insist he's the candidate who can win against Mr Trump in November's election.
There are numerous opinion polls that back that theory.
His current game plan would see neither him nor Mrs Clinton with enough pledged delegates, making July's convention a contested one.
An anti-establishment candidate getting party faithful superdelegates to switch sides is a long shot.
But Mr Sanders seems intent on giving it a go

Ditto.
And Berlusconi's death at this time doesn't impact world politics anymore. I guess he's become such a character that he's still part of the Italian cultural image in the world. So sad.
If other countries were really on touch with Italian politics they should be worried about the upcoming costitutional referendum.

Re 'the fix' being in against Bernie... it looks to me that even before Calif. Hillary had around 300 more regular delegates before any super-delegates. Also she has been with that party for decades whereas Bernie has only been elected as an independent not a democrat as I understand it. I don't call dems supporting a long term democrat a conspiracy.
It's amazing all the different ways states have in their processes so this may be why one state is awarded (projected) earlier than another for a leading candidate.
Whoever gets in I really hope the U.S. starts to put some real teeth into any fraud or robo calls and long wait times in certain areas and not in others. Plus all the map redrawing aka redistricting. It's all horrible stuff. Regulations and oversight are necessary things.

I am not a democrat or Clinton or Bernie supporter. But I don't understand all this whining coming from some Bernie supporters about a "fixed" system. The system can be rigged on both sides. However, Clinton beat Sanders by over 3 millions votes. Clinton beat Sanders in pledged delegates. Clinton beat Sanders in total number of states won. How is that a fix? Can you imagine if Bernie was nominated if he had millions of less votes and delegates? Then that surely would be a rigged system. I agree that super-delegates are a way of rigging the system so the establishment has a big voice. However, that does not take away what Clinton has won over Sanders.
On the republican side, Trump definitely beat a rigged system. Some states like Colorado had small conventions decide who won their delegates. It had nothing to do with the popular vote in the state. Now that is surely a rigged system.
I see you are from Canada. Its hard to explain but we Americans pick a president in an insane way. I believe in one person, one vote. We should have a national primary that has nothing to do with delegates. We should also repeal the electoral college. You only have to win the 10 most populated states to win. You could lose 40 states, the popular vote, and still win.
I live in Florida and in 2012 they tried to suppress the vote and created a 10 page ballot and cut voting times. I waited 2 hours to vote while others waited much longer. However, the efforts of the republicans to suppress the democratic vote backfired. It fired up democrats and the African-American turnout was higher than it was in 2008. That is almost impossible to believe since 2008 was the first African American nominated by a major party.

Terror in Orlando: 50 killed in shooting rampage at gay club; gunman pledged allegiance to ISIS

Police say approximately 50 people have been killed inside a Florida nightclub, and dozens more wounded after a gunman opened fire early Sunday, June 12. Six eyewitnesses explain what they saw. (The Washington Post)
ORLANDO — The gunman who opened fire inside a crowded nightclub here early Sunday morning, launching a rampage that killed 50 people and injured 53 others in the deadliest shooting spree in the country’s history, had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State before the attack, according to U.S. law enforcement officials.
President Obama said the FBI was investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism, an announcement he made about 12 hours after the gunfire began at Pulse, a popular gay bar and dance club.
“We know enough to say that this was an act of terror and an act of hate,” Obama said during remarks at the White House. “And as Americans, we are united in grief, in outrage, and in resolve to defend our people.”
Police said that after a first round of gunshots at 2 a.m., the shooter took hostages for about three hours, until officers who went inside to rescue these people killed the gunman in a shootout. It was not immediately clear if the death toll included the gunman.
The gunman, identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, apparently made a 911 call before the attack identifying himself and pledging allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State, according to U.S. law enforcement officials who asked not to be identified to discuss the ongoing investigation.
Mateen also made a reference to the 2013 bombing of the Boston Marathon during this call, officials said. Much like Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older of the two brothers who carried out that attack, Mateen had been the focus of an FBI investigation. Officials said Mateen was investigated by the FBI in 2014, but what triggered the probe and its scope were not immediately clear. The probe was closed the same year.
In a message Sunday, the Islamic State appeared to take credit for the attack, but it remains unclear if the gunman had any connections to the group or if they had any prior knowledge.
[‘It was just complete chaos’: Survivors of Orlando massacre recall desperate struggle to stay alive]
Police had said earlier Sunday that 20 people were killed before saying that the toll was significantly higher. Until Sunday, the 2007 rampage at Virginia Tech — which saw 32 people killed and 30 others injured — was the country’s worst mass shooting.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said that the toll from this latest mass slaughter could have been even greater, saying that a SWAT team “rescued at least 30 possible victims and brought them to safety.” Police said they were not able to say if all of the people killed or injured were shot during the initial burst of gunfire at 2 a.m. or during the shootout with police three hours later.
“It’s absolutely terrible,” Mina said during a news briefing. “Fifty victims in one location, one shooting, is absolutely one of the worst tragedies we’ve seen.”
In the aftermath of the shooting, officials said many things remained unknown, including:
Details about a possible motivation for the gunman and more about his background.
The final death toll.
Identities of all of the people killed and injured.
A clearer timeline of what happened inside the club and when all of the victims were injured.
While authorities have not publicly identified the gunman, law enforcement officials and relatives on Sunday identified him.
[Ex-wife of suspected Orlando shooter: ‘He beat me’]

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said he was briefed Sunday and told that local law enforcement officials said the gunman had “declared his allegiance to ISIS.”
A U.S. official said that Department of Homeland Security reports being circulated to government authorities are “referring to local law enforcement reports saying the shooter pledged loyalty to ISIS and was heard praying in another language in the nightclub.”
Just after a husband and wife killed 14 people last December in a terror attack in San Bernardino, Calif., one of the shooters went on Facebook and pledged her allegiance to the emir of the Islamic State, a militant group also known as ISIS or ISIL. Officials later said the posting was made on behalf of both attackers.
The group said in a message posted Sunday by the Islamic State-linked Amaq News Agency that the Orlando shooting “was carried out by an Islamic State fighter.” The same news agency had released a message showing the Islamic State claiming some credit for the San Bernardino attack two days after that occurred, while Amaq posted a statement from the group asserting responsibility for the Brussels attacks in March within hours.
The Islamic State has repeatedly executed gay people and then released videos showing these gruesome executions.
Ron Hopper of the FBI, the bureau leading the investigation, said Sunday they were still working to determine a motive. Hopper said officials had not found any indications of outside help, and added that they were confident there were no additional threats.
[Live updates on the Orlando shooting]
Also on Sunday, a man was detained in Santa Monica, Calif., by police while possessing weapons and dangerous material, police said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that they were investigating any possible link between this man and a Gay Pride Parade and Festival in West Hollywood on Sunday, though they added that there have been “no specific or credible threats” in the Los Angeles area.
Mateen’s ex-wife said that he was abusive, saying in an interview Sunday that he beat her repeatedly during their marriage. She said that during their brief marriage, Mateen, who was Muslim, was not very religious and gave no indications that he was devoted to radical Islam. (Mateen was from Fort Pierce, which is also where Moner Mohammad Abusalha, the first American to carry out a suicide attack in Syria, had lived in Florida.)
Mina said it appeared the gunman was armed with “a handgun and an AR-15-type assault rifle” and had additional rounds on him.
“It appears he was organized and well-prepared,” Mina said during another briefing.
An AR-15 is the civilian variant of the military M-16 rifle. It is one of the most popular weapons in the United States and can be customized with a variety of accessories including different grips and sights. A standard magazine for it carries about 30 bullets.
[Obama, others decry Orlando nightclub shooting as it reignites political debate]
A number of federal agencies were participating in a massive law enforcement response to the shooting in Orlando, authorities said. On Sunday afternoon, Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch, who had been scheduled to attend a meeting in Beijing on cyber-security, said she was returning to Washington so she could monitor the ongoing investigation.
“We stand with the people of Orlando, who have endured a terrible attack on their city,” Obama said during a statement he made at the White House after meeting with FBI Director James Comey.
Obama said it was too early to know “the precise motivations of the killer,” but he said the FBI would investigate any possible links the gunman had to terrorist groups.
During his remarks Sunday afternoon, Obama — echoing comments he has made during numerous other statements given after shooting rampages — said the bloodshed in Orlando served as a reminder of how easily people can obtain guns in the United States. Pope Francis also expressed deep “horror and condemnation” of the shooting on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
Obama also signed a proclamation honoring the victims and ordering that American flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on Thursday.
“We’re dealing with something we never imagined and is unimaginable,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer (D) said during a news briefing Sunday.
Dyer said he had issued a state of emergency in the city, while Gov. Rick Scott (R) said he was issuing a similar order for surrounding Orange County and called the shooting “clearly an act of terror.”

Officials say at least 50 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the shooting.
Details about Mateen’s background were scarce on Sunday morning. His family is from Afghanistan, while Mateen is believed to have been born in the United States. His father hosted a political television show in Afghanistan and, in one video, declared his candidacy for the Afghan presidency.
“I unequivocally condemn the horrific attack in Orlando, Florida, USA. Nothing can justify killing of civilians,” Afghan President Ashraf Ghani wrote on Twitter. “My sympathies and thoughts are with the families of the victims, the American people and the US government.”
One relative said that Mateen’s family was in shock after being told on Sunday morning about his involvement. This relative said Mateen’s family was very sorry about what had happened.
“We had a crime that will have a lasting effect on our community,” Dyer said. “We need to stand strong, we need to be supportive of the victims and their families.”
Police said that during the shootout with the gunman, one Orlando police officer was shot and saved by his Kevlar helmet.
Numerous people injured were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, which was locked down Sunday morning along with two other hospitals. OneBlood, a foundation with blood collection centers throughout the southeast, put out a call for donors after the shooting.
While many people sharing the call on social media reported that OneBlood is allowing all gay men who to donate — going against Food and Drug Administration guidelines — a spokesman for the foundation said that’s not true and that it was adhering to longstanding federal restriction on gay men from donating blood. (While the Food and Drug Administration recently updated its guidelines to allow men who have not had sex with another man within a year’s time to donate blood, the spokesman said OneBlood’s system hasn’t been updated to allow that yet.)
The horrific incident began as Saturday gave way to Sunday at the crowded club. Around 2 a.m., Pulse Orlando posted an urgent message on Facebook: “Everyone get out of pulse and keep running.”

Within minutes of the shooting, police vehicles and a SWAT team descended on the club.
“I was there,” Ricardo J. Negron posted on the club’s Facebook page several hours later. “Shooter opened fire @ around 2:00am. People on the dance floor and bar got down on the floor and some of us who were near the bar and back exit managed to go out through the outdoor area and just ran. I am safely home and hoping everyone gets home safely as well.”
An officer working at the club exchanged fire with the gunman, authorities said. It was then, according to police, that the incident developed into “a hostage situation.” Authorities said the man was armed with an “suspicious device,” in addition to his guns, Mina, the police chief, told reporters.
“The decision was made to rescue hostages that were in there,” Mina said.
Police later reported that a sound heard at the club was a “controlled explosion.”
Jon Alamo told the Associated Press that he was near the back of the club when the gunman appeared near the front of the building.
“I heard 20, 40, 50 shots,” Alamo said. “The music stopped.”
Several neighbors from the quiet neighborhood around the club stood in clumps on the street on Sunday morning, hugging and consoling each other as many teared up as they came to terms with the idea that the shooting happened on their doorstep.
Joshua and Mary Zika live less than a block from the nightclub, and say they’ve never had any problems with the club before. “It might sound weird to have a nightclub in the middle of a residential neighborhood,” Mary Zika said.
They say they didn’t hear any shots or notice anything out of the ordinary, because helicopters are often heard in the area due to the nearby hospital. Instead, they found out about it from the news, reading and watching in disbelief as they realized this had happened just outside their door.
Both said they were particularly appalled that the shooter had appeared to target this particular population.
“We’re proud of our gay community in Orlando,” Mary Zika said.
[50 Years of Mass Shootings]
Rob Rick said the violence erupted in Pulse as the night was winding down. “Everybody was drinking their last sip,” he said.
Rick told the AP that he estimated more than 100 people were still inside when the shooting began. He hit the ground and crawled toward a DJ booth, he said. Some people managed to escape out of the back of the club after a bouncer knocked down a partition between the club area and a restricted area leading to an exit, he noted.
Mina Justice told the AP that her son, Eddie, texted her when the rampage began and asked her to call police.
From the AP:
He told her he ran into a bathroom with other club patrons to hide.
He then texted her: “He’s coming.”
“The next text said: ‘He has us, and he’s in here with us,'” she said. “That was the last conversation.”
The early-Sunday rampage followed the fatal shooting Friday night of a pop singer who was killed while signing autographs following a performance at an Orlando concert venue. Christina Grimmie, a 22-year-old singer who was a finalist on NBC’s show “The Voice,” died hours after being shot by a gunman who then shot himself, police said.

Same thing with the San Bernardino terrorist attack several months ago...
Donald Trump has a point... Why can't he call it a "Muslim Terrorist Attack"?
It's also interesting that Obama did not attend any of the San Bernardino funerals but he was able to make it to Hawaii to play golf and a few weeks later he did forego a visit to the Taj Mahal during his visit to India in order to pay respects in Saudi Arabia after the death of King Abdullah...Makes you wonder where his loyalties lie...

Barack Obama always seems to respond to these sorts of events extremely well- it can't be easy having to reflect on mass killings on a regular basis. He is always humbling, sensitive and has the ability to set the right tone.
On this occasion this particular nut-job used an AR15 assault rifle which happens to be owned by nearly 4 million US households. How many other disturbed people are there out there that have access to this weapon alone? Crazy, absolutely crazy.

Islam was simply an excuse for a violent hater of different people and the U.S. Punishing all the followers of Islam is what people like this hope as a side effect, more innocent people dragged down. It's not uncommon for people like that to imagine they are triggering or fueling a wider war (Charles Manson thought to trigger a race war with his terrorism).

Did you miss it? Because I did...Didn't hear him say "Muslim Terrorist" or "Islamic Radical"
I absolutely agree with you.

“I don't vote. Two reasons. First of all it's meaningless; this country was bought and sold a long time ago. The **** they shovel around every 4 years *pfff* doesn't mean a f*cking thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.” - George Carlin
“Now, to balance the scale, I’d like to talk about some things that bring us together, things that point out our similarities instead of our differences. ‘Cause that’s all you ever hear about in this country. It’s our differences. That’s all the media and the politicians are ever talking about—the things that separate us, things that make us different from one another. That’s the way the ruling class operates in any society. They try to divide the rest of the people. They keep the lower and the middle classes fighting with each other so that they, the rich, can run off with all the f*cking money! Fairly simple thing. Happens to work. You know? Anything different—that’s what they’re gonna talk about—race, religion, ethnic and national background, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality, anything they can do to keep us fighting with each other, so that they can keep going to the bank! You know how I define the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all of the money, pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes, does all of the work. The poor are there just to scare the **** out of the middle class. Keep ’em showing up at those jobs.” - George Carlin

Just a sampling of Sharia (Islamic) law
• Theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand (above).
• Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death.
• Criticizing or denying Muhammad is a prophet is punishable by death.
• Criticizing or denying Allah, the moon god of Islam is punishable by death.
• A Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by death.
• A non-Muslim who leads a Muslim away from Islam is punishable by death.
• A non-Muslim man who marries a Muslim woman is punishable by death.
• A man can marry an infant girl and consummate the marriage when she is 9 years old.
• Girls' clitoris should be cut (per Muhammad's words in Book 41, Kitab Al-Adab, Hadith 5251).
• A woman can have 1 husband, but a man can have up to 4 wives; Muhammad can have more.
• A man can unilaterally divorce his wife but a woman needs her husband's consent to divorce.
• A man can beat his wife for insubordination.
• Testimonies of four male witnesses are required to prove rape against a woman.
• A woman who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).
• A woman's testimony in court, allowed only in property cases, carries half the weight of a man's.
• A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.
• A woman cannot drive a car, as it leads to fitnah (upheaval).
• A woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative.
• Meat to be eaten must come from animals that have been sacrificed to Allah - i.e., be Halal.
• Muslims should engage in Taqiyya and lie to non-Muslims to advance Islam.
• The list goes on.

Theres not enough Dr Phil's around to help mental ill people.Guns dont kill. The mental ill people do.Spend more time on and money on full background checks on everybody and people involve in domestic violence .

I think you misunderstood... Amputation is the Islamic punishment for theft...And yes they are very civilized in the Middle East...In Saudi Arabia for example the death sentence is carried out by public beheading...
From the Capitol punishment in Saudi Arabia Wiki...
Saudi Arabia has a criminal justice system based on a hardline and literal form of Shari'ah law reflecting a particular state-sanctioned interpretation of Islam.
The death penalty can be imposed for a wide range of offences[6] including murder, rape, false prophecy, blasphemy, armed robbery, repeated drug use, apostasy,[7] adultery,[8] witchcraft and sorcery[9][10][11][12] and can be carried out by beheading with a sword,[13] or more rarely by firing squad, and sometimes by stoning.[14][15]
The 345 reported executions between 2007 and 2010 were all carried out by public beheading.[16] The last reported execution for sorcery took place in August 2014.[17][18] There were no reports of stoning between 2007 and 2010,[16] but between 1981 and 1992 there were four cases of execution by stoning reported.[19]
https://Capital punishment in Saudi Arabia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_Saudi_Arabia)
So in 2014 the Saudi's were still convicting people of "witchcraft & sorcery" and executing them.

Well, if I've misunderstood then I'm very sorry. It appears to me as if Macfanforever (who normally comes across as a very sweet and mild-mannered person) is agreeing with the practice of amputation as a form of punishment which I find totally abhorrent. I sincerely apologise if that is not what you meant.
'I agree with this one'
As far as Islamic beliefs are concerned- please don't be thinking all Muslims agree with all the Sharia listed above- they don't. You are particularly referring to Wahabi Muslims that govern hard-line countries like Saudi Arabia. Only a tiny proportion of all Muslims in the world have the same beliefs as the hard-line Wahabi. Certainly the vast majority of the repressed people of Saudi Arabia would not agree with these hard line laws. Though I do not agree with the concept of a Sharia state (when you go to another country you abide by their laws) actually many of the Sharia rules make quite a lot of sense and most fall into line with general western beliefs- you've picked out a small number of extreme rules from many.
I must emphasis the vast majority of Muslim people are peaceful people.
The vast majority are moderate and put love, compassion and forgiveness before retribution.
Hard line Muslims that believe in amputation, women not driving cars, women not working, death as a sentence for apostasy etc are the Muslim equivalent of Westboro Baptist Church. I don't put all Christians in the same club as the Westboro's and other hardliners. Muslim people, the world over are constantly sickened, shocked and embarrassed by these sorts of events. Omar Mateen is not representative of the majority of Muslim people. Omar Mateen was a homophobic lunatic who happened to be Muslim and had free access to a machine gun.
If you are getting your understanding of Islam from wikipedia then you are extremely ignorant. Perhaps you should try speaking to some.

You can't stop Muslims from being in America (are you going to deport 3 million innocent people?). Even if you stop more visiting (which is probably impossible anyway) there are plenty already there that could easily carry out acts of terror. All it needs is for the next deranged idiot to pick up his gun. This oddball didn't just pick on Americans- he didn't go to the nearest shopping mall or high school. He chose to pick on the gay community because he was a nutcase with a thing about two men kissing. He could have quite easily been a Christian nutcase or one from any other religion (or no religion) that hated gay people. I do think all Muslim communities around the world need to do more to help tackle this issue.
Of course, if he wasn't able to get that sort of weapon...

There is a problem with self-righteously angry people who blame groups of 'others'... and you want to address this by putting a self-righteously angry person who blames groups of 'others' into power? I really don't think you will get the fixes and changes you are wanting that way.
Here, these quotes sound like something that comes from a member of the Taliban...
“I think that putting a wife to work is a very dangerous thing,”
"I don't want to sound too much like a chauvinist—but when I come home and dinner's not ready, I'll go through the roof, okay?"
But... guess who said them? Are you going to tell me more about how someone is worse? So I should like somebody almost as bad to 'deal' with them?
If you are willingly limiting yourself to sources of information that provide only half the info, half the truth you are submitting to sheer propaganda. I would never bother with Glenn Beck, Pat Robertson or Rush Limbaugh any more than I would listen to Michael Moore, their whole career and catalog of products are based on half-truths and getting people outraged and reactionary. This is supposed to be the information age too. :distress:

"An AR-15 is the civilian variant of the military M-16 rifle. It is one of the most popular weapons in the United States and can be customized with a variety of accessories including different grips and sights. A standard magazine for it carries about 30 bullets."
http://injo.com/2016/06/627943-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-assault-rifles-and-the-ar-15/
The AR-15 is being dubbed the “weapon of choice” for mass shooters. And the act of terrorism in Orlando has renewed calls for an “assault weapons” ban.
But by any definition of the term, the AR-15 is not an assault rifle.
What constitutes an assault rifle?
An assault rifle needs to hit the mark on three different characteristics.
1. An assault rifle has selective fire.
That means that the user can toggle between at least two settings, semiautomatic and automatic.
The AR-15 is a gas powered semiautomatic rifle, meaning one pull of the trigger corresponds to only one round being fired.
In contrast, the M16 and sometimes the M4, which are the United States military’s small arms rifle of choice, do fire automatically. The M16 and M4 also allow a three-round burst option, which is also not possible on an AR-15.
2. An assault rifle fires an intermediate cartridge.
An intermediate cartridge is less powerful than standard full power battle rifle cartridges, but is still more powerful than the common pistol cartridges. The 5.56 NATO round, used in the M16, is an intermediate cartridge. So is the .223, used in the AR-15.
3. An assault rifle will have a detachable magazine.
The AR-15, like the M16 and the M4, have detachable magazines.
But virtually every modern firearm uses detachable magazines.
Cosmetics.
The AR-15 looks very similar to the M16, which is an actual assault rifle. They are both heavily customizable and have many of the same features.
An AR-15 owner can tack on scopes, muzzle brakes, and spiffy slings. The user can interchange lowers and swap out magazines as well. The AR-15 and the M16 look very similar.
But their functionality could not be more different.
Some misconceptions about the AR-15.
The AR-15 is not that powerful when compared to common hunting rifles. A .223 round is often too small to take down large game like deer and elk.
In many cases, the .223 is prohibited for hunting certain game. Because of its lack of power, it might not fully kill the animal, leading to suffering.
For instance, in the state of Washington, all big game — with the exception of cougar — can only be hunted with a minimum of .24 caliber (6mm) centerfire rifle.
Rather, hunters opt instead for more powerful rounds such as a .30-30 or a .308.
In addition to overestimating its power, inexperienced gun critics often cite the AR-15’s ability to rapid fire.
In the wake of the Orlando attack, Florida Congressman Alan Grayson, a Democrat, told CNN’s Erin Burnett:
“If [Matteen] was not able to buy a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute, a lot of those people would still be alive. That’s exactly right. If somebody like him had nothing worse to deal with than a Glock pistol…he might have killed three or four people and not 50. It’s way too easy to kill people in America today and we have to think long and hard about what to do about that.”
What Grayson said on national television was false. The AR-15 cannot fire 700 rounds per minute. Such an action would be a physical impossibility.
And while Grayson said “a Glock pistol” can only target “three or four people,” the standard magazine for a Glock 19 holds 15 rounds.
But Burnett didn’t challenge Grayson, instead she told him, “You’re right about that. Thank you very much.”
Another misconception is that the “AR” in AR-15 is an abbreviation for “assault rifle.” It does not. The “AR” is an abbreviation for “ArmaLite Rifle,” after the company that designed the firearm.
So while gun control supporters rally their cohorts to bring about an assault rifle ban, the AR-15 is not an assault rifle. It just looks like one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I stand behind you in line at the store with a smile on my face...and a gun under my shirt and you are none the wiser, yet you are safer for having me next to you. I won't shoot you. My gun won't pull it's own trigger. It is securely holstered with the trigger covered. It can't just go off. However, rest assured that if a lunatic walks into the grocery store and pulls out a rifle, I will draw my pistol and protect myself and my family and therefore protect you and your family. I may get shot before I can pull the trigger...but, I won't die in a helpless blubbering heap on the floor begging for my life or my child's life. No, if I die it will be in a pile of spent shell casings. I won't be that victim. I choose not to be. As for you, I don't ask you to carry a gun. If you are not comfortable, then please don't. But I would like to keep my right to choose to not be a helpless victim. There is evil in the world and if evil has a gun, I want one too... "

This from my hometown newspaper... "the semi-automatic AR-15 is legal in Canada, too. It's a restricted weapon, one that A) must be registered and B) may be used only for target practice on a range, not for hunting, as was legal before 1995. Significantly, in Canada, it's supposed to only hold a five-round clip."
Seems to be quite popular with those larger ammo clips with the people wanting large kill ratios in any case.
I missed Trump saying explicitly that Obama was on the side of terrorists, if he did he's stooping even lower than the old born in Kenya jazz at a pretty bad time. I'd love to see the clip from the NRA rally thing again where he said his sons had so many guns it "scared even him." Hysterical!

When I've lived/worked in the U.S. I've been surprised at how overtly partisan radio and newspapers can get there. Actually I've long heard about British papers being "hard right" or "militant-union" etc. too, and I always wonder what kind of person knowingly supports a source of information that is deliberately skewed in any way. Having two extremes hollering/blaming/heckling as it were is not my idea of balance, nor is say giving equal time to one scientist of thousands saying there is a climate change and one out of one saying there is no such thing, and if you're lucky maybe one out of twenty saying there is but is not human effected enough to count. To get real information, full information, seems to be a large problem in these times.

Donald Trump on Monday demanded that Hillary Clinton return $25 million the Clinton Foundation reportedly received from Saudi Arabia.
“Crooked Hillary says we must call on Saudi Arabia and other countries to stop funding hate,” Trump posted to Facebook. “I am calling on her to immediately return the $25 million plus she got from them for the Clinton Foundation!”
The Wall Street Journal reported last year that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had donated between $10 million and $25 million to the Clinton Foundation since it was created in 1999. Other donors included the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Australia and Germany.
“Saudi Arabia and many of the countries that gave vast amounts of money to the Clinton Foundation want women as slaves and to kill gays,” Trump wrote in a separate post. “Hillary must return all money from such countries!”
In a national security speech she delivered Monday, the former secretary of state highlighted the disruption of radicalization and countering the Islamic State and other terrorist networks’ recruiting efforts in the U.S. and Europe as an “area that demands attention.”
“For starters, it is long past time for the Saudis, the Qataris and the Kuwaitis and others to stop their citizens from funding extremist organizations,” Clinton said. “And they should stop supporting radical schools and mosques around the world that have sent too many young people on a path toward extremism.”
Trump last week accused Clinton of turning the State Department “into her private hedge fund.” “The Russians, the Saudis, the Chinese all gave money to Bill and Hillary and got favorable treatment in return,” he said then. “It's a sad day in America when foreign governments with deep pockets have more influence in our own country than our great citizens.”
In the same remarks, Trump had teased a “major speech” in which he would discuss “all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons.” The speech, originally scheduled for Monday, was canceled in the wake of the Sunday’s deadly shooting in Orlando, Florida.
Clinton acknowledged last week that some donations may have "slipped through the cracks" on "one or two instances" but insisted that the nonprofit had "overwhelming disclosure."
The Clinton Foundation didn't immediately respond to a request for comment...Copied from Politico (http://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/trump-clinton-foundation-224287)
I'm not going to post it here (it's quite disturbing) but Google "LGBT rights in Saudi Arabia"...The Saudi government punishes gay people very harshly for simply being themselves...
If this is true then how can Hillary say she supports the gay community when her "Clinton Foundation" accepts millions from countries that have serious human rights issues...

Sorry, to be clear, I meant television news. Generally BBC, ITN and Sky News each remain largely impartial. In fact BBC news is required to be politically neutral by law. Printed news is a whole different thing- I can't think of any newspapers that are genuinely impartial, though Financial Times and the Independent come pretty close.

For example i can't believe how many times I've had people in the U.S. tell me I'm lying when I tell them Ronald Reagan more than tripled the U.S. national debt. Not to be cliched but there were dozens of mostly skewed and partisan newspapers in Weimar Germany in the 1920s-1933! You might think Big Bird is a soft liberal plot like Planned Parenthood or whatever but it's only yourselves you would be hurting if you leave everything to private motivated fanatics. It's hard to believe people actually put any kind of weight on things off extremist websites with silly names even. It is an actual strategy to throw a lot of mud around and burn people off of both parties. It's too bad a new third party couldn't have gotten going about when Ross Perot was dragging his pie charts around. By now they might have been more legitimately electable than Hillary and Trump led big two. But I remember people who did vote Reform were given heck for taking away from Bush Sr., then people who voted Ralph Nader/Green were blamed for Bush Jr. but it's never wrong to actually vote for something.
Remember, a write-in vote for Count Chocula is a vote for candy disguised as cereal.

Great video! I admire the way those kids handled themselves. Very informed, peaceful, and respectful. America needs more debate and discussion, not violence. This gives me hope for the future of America and the world.

Brexit: Sombre mood in divided Britain as referendum on EU membership looms
Lateline
By Brigid Andersen
A divided Briton will soon vote in a referendum on the nation's European Union membership under a cloud of grief for murdered politician Jo Cox.
Polls are on a knife-edge, with final campaigning underway for the vote that could see the UK leave the EU after 43 years.
The deputy leader of the UK's Labour Party, Tom Watson, told Lateline the murder of his colleague and pro-EU politician Ms Cox is on everyone's minds, though he was unsure if it would affect the outcome.
"Whatever happens on the result we're going to end up a more divided nation as a result of this debate and we're going to have to do a lot of healing and understanding," he said.
"We've had more sombre campaigning this week, so I think there'll be more cooler heads when it comes to referendum day [on Thursday local time] but I'm not sure it will affect the outcome or not."
Mr Watson said the murder and the Brexit debate had highlighted the need for a more patient and kinder political culture.
"The whole political system is rocked. I know it's had an impact around the world and there's a lot of soul searching in the heart of politics to see whether we can learn lessons from this," he said.
Ms Cox was shot and stabbed to death in Leeds in England's north last Thursday, in an attack her husband said was politically motivated.
Overnight, her family was to mark what would have been her 42nd birthday with an emotional river tribute and a rally in London.
The commemoration in the city's central Trafalgar Square was set to include Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, with similar events to take place later in cities around the world, among them Beirut, Nairobi, New York and Paris.
Cameron pushes case to Remain
Prime Minister David Cameron, who is pro-EU, is doing his final campaigning, with the fate of his leadership potentially hanging on the result of the referendum.
Mr Cameron called the referendum under pressure from his Conservative Party.
"If we leave we will diminish our country and our ability to get things done in the world," he told supporters in Bristol in western England.
"We've got one day left to hammer out that message; stronger, safer, better off. Please give it everything you've got in these last hours to make sure that people go out and vote."
Vote Remain signs are projected onto the Tate Modern building in London.

There have been predictions a Brexit could cause financial catastrophe on global markets and even lead to a new world war.
But leave campaigners say breaking up with the EU will allow Britain to regain control of immigration.
Boris Johnson, one of the main Leave campaigners and rumoured replacement for Mr Cameron as PM, said Thursday could become Britain's independence day.
"They say we have no choice but to bow down to Brussels. We say they are woefully underestimating this country and what it can do," he said.
UK House of Lords member Robert Hayward told The World program the economic message had been getting through to voters in the last few days, but the outcome was still too close to call.
"There's no question that the momentum is with the Remain side, whether they've picked up the momentum early enough to overtake Leave I'm not sure," he said.
Australia warned about same-sex marriage plebiscite
Meanwhile, after witnessing three major votes in the UK in the past decade, Mr Watson had a warning for Australia on the upcoming plebiscite on same-sex marriage.
"It generates a lot of hate but not a lot of light," he said.
"Leadership of these campaigns has played to the lowest common denominator and I'm not sure if we've given the British people the rational debate they need to make a decision.
"When people do a post mortem of the last month I think most MPs and most voters will probably say don't ever have a referendum in Britain again. It's been very, very negative.
"The nation ends up completely divided. People bewildered by claim and counter-claim and it's very hard to make a rational decision. I think we should restate the case for representative democracy and accountable politicians."
Australian politicians have also been debating on whether the plebiscite will stoke hatred and bigotry.

I'm not sure why it was necessary to have a referendum. It seems to have caused much trouble including the murder of Jo Cox :( I'll be glad when it's over and done with.

BBC has declared it for Leave now, they are almost a million votes ahead with maybe 60 polls to report of 382. A lot of people had been predicting a Stay victory, who knows if that didn't cause a few who might have voted that way to not bother? Plus flooding in London looked fairly miserable. :(
It looks to me to be a bit of the isolationist anti-immigrant thing that other places are experiencing.

As the pound plunges and the markets slide, remember that this entire referendum was called by David Cameron. The prime minister has lost his big gamble – and the rest of the country will pay the price.
Financial chaos, economic crisis, the likely breakaway of Scotland and possibly Northern Ireland: quite a morning’s work for the Bullingdon Club.
Remember as the pound plunges and the markets slide that this entire referendum was called by David Cameron to fend off Nigel Farage and his own Tory ultras. There was no public outcry for a ballot – but for the sake of a bit of internal party management, he called one anyway. He gambled Britain and Europe’s future to shore up his own position. With all the confidence of a member of the Etonian officer class, he thought he’d win. Instead he has bungled so badly that the fallout will drag on for years, disrupting tens of millions of lives across Europe. (full article above)

The "Supreme Court Of The United States" has just dealt a crushing blow to Obama's immigration plan...
The Supreme Court on Thursday blocked President Obama’s immigration executive actions, in a tie decision that delivers a win to states challenging his plan to give a deportation reprieve to millions of illegal immigrants.
The justices' one-sentence opinion on Thursday marks a major setback for the administration, effectively killing the plan for the duration of Obama's presidency.
The judgment could have significant political and legal consequences in a presidential election year highlighted by competing rhetoric over immigration. As the ruling was announced, pro-immigration activists filled the sidewalk in front of the court, some crying as the ruling became public. Critics of the policy touted the decision as a strong statement against "executive abuses."
"The Constitution is clear: The president is not permitted to write laws—only Congress is. House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement, "This is another major victory in our fight to restore the separation of powers," , Adding that the ruling rendered Obama's actions "null and void."

Honestly not a problem.
I lived and worked for over 10 years in Hounslow in West London-just south of Heathrow airport. The majority of the population of Hounslow is drawn up of refugees and migrant workers from a diversity of different backgrounds. A lovely melting pot of cultures.

I now work in a school in Hillingdon in West London- just north of Heathrow airport. Again, the majority of the population of Hillingdon is drawn up of refugees and migrant workers. A lovely melting pot of cultures.
I now live in Shepperton in Surrey which is overwhelmingly white, middle/old aged and middle class. I have been embarrassed by the deapth of the 'Leave' feeling in my town, mainly based on anti-immigration sentiments. Racist old bustards! (it seemed to be okay when had lots of Polish people coming here- that was different. They were white).
The altruistic urge to be open to those fellow human beings that are in desperate need of help seems sadly lacking in too many people. Me, me, me, me , me.

Evolution through natural selection is a beautiful thing.
But as Richard Dawkins (The Selfish Gene) points out we have evolved to a level above animals. We have a greater awarness of the need to work towards a common good for the benefit of the species.

In the words of Bill & Ted 'Be excellent to each other'.
I agree with that in a macro sense. In a more micro sense, we, as individuals, should try to be more self reliant.

Eisenhower was kind of drafted into being President in the 1950s when the Republican party didn't like other available options (some of whom were very extreme like Barry Goldwater). I still like Ike, he also warned of the military-industrial complex becoming too powerful and wagging the dog as it were (which you ten got with more than tripling the national debt by way of a blank check to the military under Reagan, remember the $10,000 coffee pots).
Draft someone and dump the radical Trump. Before he dumps us all in it over mostly manufactured outrage and deliberate misinformation like those 'winners' in England used.

I really think my ideas are worth
their own thread.
One of the first things I'd do in office
would be to rid America of all the so
called Elvis impersonators.
It's part of my Take America's Culture Back movement.

Thats what the celebs have to go through if they favor a candidate or somebody in public office. When the Mac played for Bill back then.I dont remember if they endorsed him and no problem from us fans if they did.We were just happy to see FM together again.
Alittle off topic.Dolly has to look for a better plastic surgeon or back off the work on her face.I hope its not the same surgeon that worked on Linda Evans which makes her look fake. I'm glad that Stevie and Chris dont bother or get carried away with these horrible facelifts.
