I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was just reading "Queens of Noise", a pretty decent book about the Runaways. Imagine my surprise when, around 3/4's of the way through the book, the author tells of Kim Fowley bringing Stevie in to meet the girls. Stevie then went on to offer them "Gold Dust Woman".....which they turned down!

Now, there are some holes here.....first, what in the world would Stevie be doing hanging out with a ultra low-life like Fowley?? Second, this would have been Spring to Summer of '77....RUMOURS was already out, which means Stevie would have been offering them an album track on the hottest album in the country at the time. I find it hard to believe that either the band or Warners would go along with that!

Anyone else hear this previously?

Stevie can be about as loopy as Coney Island roller coaster, especially in 1977 on a night when she had been hitting the fairy dust. Could it be possible that she had been hoovering bumps all night and ran into Foley at some party, where he whisked her over to meet The Runaways? In a white clouded haze, could she have offered to let them record a cover of "Gold Dust Woman"? Joan Jett, having the common sense that Stevie lacked, would obviously refuse to record it since it already appeared on one of the best selling albums of the year.

In the book, Fowley says the band turned it down because Stevie didn't need the money, much to Fowley's dismay and disgust....in fact, he said it was probably the biggest mistake the band ever made!
