A few late night/early morning thoughts as I wind down from an incredible concert (let's call it "Isn't it Midnight").
- I was going to go through in somewhat of a logical order, but first things first. Something went very awry in Tusk. I hope someone has video and someone that knows something about music can tell us exactly what went wrong, but as the drums kicked in, it sounded like one of them was... missing. Or something. Seriously, this is why I don't play instruments. But in any case, it sounded instantly off to me. Lindsey looked worried, gestured to Mick, everyone stopped and Lindsey said "Look, we're just going to admit that we're not perfect and start that one again." He called it something to the effect of "the earn and learn version of Fleetwood Mac". Second time was a charm.
- There should be an FM Live drinking game -- one drink every time Stevie plays with her ear monitor or mic pack and you'd be on the floor after Second Hand News.
- Sara was very nice, and I think even better than last time around. Stevie held some great notes towards the end, but from where I was sitting, there was no epic S&L canoodling :(
- Landslide was dedicated to Dr Bill. (Well, I think it was Bill. I'm second guessing myself now.) Anyway, Stevie said over the years he has shown them all these things to keep them healthy and doing what they're doing at this age, which Stevie referred to as "9000 vampire years". After laughter, she said, "You laugh, but it's true." Really Stevie, I'm not sure that's how vampire years work.
- I think the slowed down NGBA is officially out of control -- some people were actually laughing, and I can see why they thought it was a parody. Overall though, I love the Big Love/Landslide/NGBA set -- a great showcase of Lindsey and Stevie. They were also very cute with each other at the end of Landslide.
- When Christine introduced Mick and his cocktail kit, someone laughed. Christine asked "Are you laughing?" Well yes, because cocktail kit always sounds like a made-up name.
- Stevie's Gypsy intro was the less cute version of the Melbourne one. She did helpfully point out though that when she met Lindsey she "was a senior, in 1966. He was a junior in... 1966"
- I loved the homage to the Gypsy video with the rain effect overlaid on the live video.
- During the encore, John and Stevie fist bumped. It was so amazingly white.
- I hope I don't have to hand back my Stevie Fangirl badge, but it was *amazing* to see Christine. Maybe it's the part of me that has this vague memory of being not much more than five years old, sitting atop Red Hill in Canberra and hearing Say You Love Me coming from I don't even know where, but gosh, hearing Christine live was just so special. She looks wonderful, she looks like she's having a great time, and the others look so pleased to have her back too. I do think Stevie is a less dominant force with Christine around, which the Stevie fan in me is still coming to terms with, but the band is obviously so much more complete with Christine in it, and I'm thrilled to have been able to see it. I mean, hearing Little Lies and remembering this is the first tour ever where these five have done it? Incredible! (FWIW, my mum remains firmly in Stevie's corner.)
- Only the first row was allowed up to the stage. Did this happen at other concerts? I was row 2, and dutifully remained in my place until the first encore. I thought I deserved a reward after behaving myself so well for 19 songs!
I so wish I was going again on Thursday, but Europe is calling me next year and apparently it's true that money doesn't grow on trees. In the mean time, I will remain eternally optimistic that this isn't the last time I'll see them. They're too good to stop just yet.

Great concert report DoubtfulMiracle, i have just arrived home its 1.15am. I was sitting in the 5th row Lindsey's side, i have a crook neck from looking sideways. They started 20 min later than usual, but well worth the wait they were absolutely fantastic...
Yeah i wonder what went wrong with Tusk, i thought it sounded a bit odd at first as well, when the band stopped playing i could see Stevie mouth to John what happened? he just shrugged, then they looked at Mick he said it wasn't me then they all looked towards Lindsey as if to say Lindsey stuffed it up :D Then they started the song again, no problems after that...
Security ushered a large group of youngish girls directly in front of Lindsey, we were told no crowd surfing to the front row, so my idea of sneaking up the front flew out the window :distress: The atmosphere changed way better when everyone was standing later in the set..
I cant wait to see them on Thursday again:blob2: time for bed.

Review: Fleetwood Mac, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, November 10, 2015
November 10, 2015 6:00am Noel MengelThe Courier-Mail

WELCOME back Chrissie.
Not that Fleetwood Mac didn’t play great shows in Christine McVie’s years out of the band. But her return for this tour brings so many big songs back to the party — from You Make Loving Fun to Say You Love Me and Everywhere.
Naturally this first Brisbane Entertainment Centre show last night was sold out — there are a few tickets left for a second tomorrow night.
You know what you are going to get, two-and-a-half hours, mostly of hits, plus some album favourites like Gold Dust Woman.
Yet the addition of Christine’s songs, lead vocals and harmonies lifts the night to another level from their tours without her.
Mick Fleetwood and John McVie remain a powerhouse rhythm section, Lindsey Buckingham ensures the energy levels never flag despite this being show No 114 of a world tour, and Nicks’ voice remains a thing of crystalline wonder, from Dreams to Rhiannon, Sara and Landslide.
It’s a beautiful and tasteful visual production, but with this many big songs, they could play by torchlight and still hold our attention.
As Buckingham reminds the audience they put all their personal dramas out there in their songs. It sure beats singing about moon, June and the lesser concerns which can fill the charts for a week and are just as soon forgotten.
It is a long concert, close to three hours on stage, and at one point they even have a false start to Tusk, which not only shows they are human but only seems to fire up Buckingham further.
After such a long time on the road, you might imagine a band going through the motions. But not at this show, and on stage it’s Buckingham who stokes the intensity with some searing lead work and his virtuoso solo turn on Big Love.
Fleetwood grins from ear to ear during his party piece on World Turning, and by the time the 10,000 plus crowd is singing along with Don’t Stop, it doesn’t feel like this is goodbye.
The old hurts might be way in the past but they still have something to say: the word is that a new album is already recorded and set for release in 2016.
Fleetwood Mac play Brisbane Entertainment Centre again tomorrow night.

About 30 seconds into a song called Tusk, Fleetwood Mac stumbled. Like someone who'd lost their place on a page in a book, the band stopped.
"We're going to say we're not perfect, and we're going to start that one again, OK?" lead guitarist Lindsey Buckhingham said.
Until then, a full house at Boondall wanted badly for the show to be great. But it wasn't. It was pedestrian at worst, ordinary at best.
One of the world's greatest bands seemed to be going through the motions, playing like it was the 114th concert on a long two-year roadtrip.
Chart-toppers Rhiannon, Everywhere and Dreams had all been rolled out, and it was Fleetwood Mac. They had to be brilliant, right?
There was nothing horrible about the first few songs – it was certainly no Meat Loaf moment.
There was just no sparkle – at least not until the second the band hiccupped.
When the group hit silence – a musical brick wall – something magic happened.
It was like they'd been given a wake-up call, a nudge to say they were slightly off their game, an embarrassing kick in the guts.
Whatever it was, the on-stage mood changed. Their energy lifted. Each member of the band found something special. No longer were they motioning through a set of songs.
They began to engage – with the audience, and with each other.
Stevie Nicks, who was previously more worried about her ear pieces as she hobbled around the stage in platform heels a size too small, suddenly commanded the stage.
Her shoes looked like they fit again. The queen of rock was back, sliding around the floor, spreading the wings of her black and gold shawls, swinging her flowing blonde locks in front of the wind machine, and reminding everyone why her voice had been regarded such a distinguishable commodity for more than 40 years.
No longer was she just singing songs. She was telling stories, as songwriters of the '70s demanded their artists must do.
Tusk was the eighth song of the set. And while the first attempt was botched, the audience spreading at least three generations was highly forgiving.
Buckhingham ensured the second time around was superb, as was his Big Love guitar solo shortly after, befitting of a man Rolling Stone included in the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
The 65-year-old is not a household name like Nicks, but he is the musical brains behind the operation. And he reminded people that the band's imperfections were sometimes what helped them connect with so many people.
Part of the band's appeal, he said, was that they had put their personal lives – not always intentionally – "out there for people to scrutinise".
Buckingham and Nicks, who kissed and held hands through the performance, were of course once an item.
"We had to deal with those difficulties and one way was to write songs to each other, and about one another," he said.
"And we're still here. Within these five people, there's a great deal of love."
Christine McVie, the lesser-known voice of so many Fleetwood Mac hits, and before married to bass guitarist John McVie, had been in hiatus until this tour. Her voice too seemed to change a key after the Tusk mishap.
Her closing piano solo of Songbird was as beautiful as ever.
And Mick Fleetwood on drums, with his Santa Claus-type beard, receding hairline and grey pony tail, is quite simply the grandfather everyone ever wanted to have.
His black vest, red bandana around his neck, white T-shirt and bright pink leather shoes proved that while he might have lost a few follicles, he's lost none of his cool.
His drum solo which kicked off the encore during song World Turning was as epic as it was entertaining.
Fleetwood is a showman of the highest standard, and his closing line was apt: "One might say much fun was had by all."

Question 141 - from Maureen in Phoenix
Stevie, in both music videos “Stand Back” and “Gypsy,” you slow danced. I read somewhere that during a concert, more recent than later, you and Lindsey slow danced to “Tusk” and I was just wondering…is slow dancing something you really enjoy doing?
THANK YOU so much!
Stevie’s answer:
ABSOLUTLEY! I like to slow dance whenever possible, I even slow dance by myself during my solo shows!

Stevie and Lindsey used to dance during the SYW tour, when it started off. They'd pretend to fight and then it would end in an embrace and dance. It was terribly awkward to watch.
I mean, I know it was an interpretative dance, telling their history, but I don't need them mocking fisticuffs on stage. Of course, by the end of the tour they weren't doing it like they had in the beginning. Thank heaven, because in the beginning of the tour, Lindsey was swinging his guitar cord in her direction like a lasso. Heaven help me.

Poor unfortunate me was stuck up in a tiered section, Anyhow......
Hi Ledgies, new on the forum and first time posting; but long time Mac tragic!
Yes Nicole, the crew and I left Burleigh at 5.30pm to make Boondall, and finally got into that utter schmozzle of a carpark at 7.30pm...
We were up the back in the Nose-bleed seats [24A], but had a good central view of the stage. And those were the $160.00 tickets!
The show itself was fantastic, I think people forget that the band are all over 65+ years of age now, and perhaps expect them to hit the same vocal highs that they did 40 years ago - not the case, thus we must make allowances for this in our expectations.
As a result, some songs were performed in a lower musical-key to compensate the vocals, but we knew that would be evident dating back to the 1997 The Dance DVD recording.
But I'm sure you guys would have already observed that fact in other threads on the forum, going back through the years...
However, the band seemed to appreciate the reception and the vibe of the evening, banter with the audience, and they still certainly represent value for money ahead of many other over-hyped and over-rated international acts.
Personally, I had some issues with the sound mix; namely John's bass notes not coming through all that clearly, and getting lost in the mix for much of the evening.
Whether that was the fault of the engineers, or equipment itself, I'm not certain... Doesn't matter though - they vocals were fine, as was Lindsay's impeccable finger picking.
Would have liked to have heard Seven Wonders, Monday Morning and Hold Me performed ahead of some other songs selected, but you're rarely going to hear your dream-setlist at a stadium show, are you?
Ultimately we can be thankful that they are still making the effort to tour, and rewarding Australian fans for their 40 years of loyalty.
As Mick said after the encore: The Mac is Back!

I'm the same, just the other side of my neck! I got distracted half way through going "Are the girls here? I think I can hear them but I can't see them." And I definitely didn't know there was a third one until band intros

I can't work out what was wrong the first time around.

That was so awkward looking in the video and speaks volume to how scripted the shows are. Even in the middle of a flub they have to retreat to a full restart with the same hand gestures and starting points. Lol....who cares just start the damn song. Although personally, I can't stand the slow drawn out post-2004 Tusk beginnings and would prefer to just hear Mick start banging on the drums and get moving.

This is what ‘Dreams’ are made of: Fleetwood Mac in action after all these years
Starts at Sixty Writers
http://startsatsixty.com.au/entertainment/this-is-what-dreams-are-made-of-fleetwood-mac-in-action-after-all-these-years
Do you know who the third highest paid female musical artist is in the world? Nestled in between Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga is a name as much loved by Katy Perry fans as it is by Beatles fans: Fleetwood Mac.
If it’s any surprise to you that Fleetwood Mac should hold a position in the top three female artists, then these clips of last night’s concert in Brisbane will surely remind you that they are, quite simply, the greatest band still touring, with both Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie worth close to $60 million.
Last night’s concert was apparently something of a revelation. With Stevie Nicks having vowed the band will be “doing this until we’re 9000 vampire years old”, the band started off on a dull note. But then the unthinkable happened. During the song Tusk, they completely messed up and guitarist Lindsey Buckhingham told the audience, “We’re going to say we’re not perfect, and we’re going to start that one again, OK?”
From there on in, it was pure Fleetwood Mac magic.
One reviewer described it like this: “There was just no sparkle – at least not until the second the band hiccupped. When the group hit silence – a musical brick wall – something magic happened. It was like they’d been given a wake-up call, a nudge to say they were slightly off their game, an embarrassing kick in the guts.”
Here are some of the highlights from the concert last night – what do you think? Have they still got it?
Fleetwood Mac will release the remastered edition of their 1979 album Tusk on December 4. Tusk was the follow-up to the band’s 1977’s iconic Rumours and it sold four million copies.
Are you a fan of Fleetwood Mac? Which are your favourite songs?
i immensely enjoyed reading this review... once i got to the comment section i realized why!

Fleetwood Mac @ Brisbane Entertainment Centre Review

Over 48 years after they formed, if practice makes perfect, than Fleetwood Mac are the living proof.
Fleetwood Mac’s seminal album, 'Rumours', was released 38 years ago. It was their eleventh album. With a few small gaps, they’ve been active to some extent since then. This tour includes over 100 tour dates this year. Mick Fleetwood is 68 years old. These points alone are achievements in themselves.
However, none of these things suggest that they’re still going to be any good live. I wondered how someone could still care having gone through these motions so many times. How could they still care after all those times?
Fleetwood.3
Image © Kirsten Butters
Since 1987's 'Tango In The Night' they’ve only released three, studio albums. The set list is almost exclusively made up of songs older than me. With this in mind, I was cautiously pessimistic about what to expect from the performance, but wanting to be proved wrong at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (10 November).
Maybe it was this pessimism, maybe it was just the quality of the source material, but as the opening notes of 'The Chain' pounded out around the room, it broke the ice and made me realise we were in for something special.

With Christine McVie back in the line-up, the multi-layered vocal harmonies hit the spot, melting those years away with each, sweet note. They were in no fear of front loading their set as they played three more from 'Rumours', including the divine 'Dreams' followed by the haunting 'Rhiannon'.
Lindsey Buckingham is still an incredible showman, lapping up the crowd attention as he enjoyed the chance to show off his incredible guitar skills, which act as the backbone to the band’s music. Whether thrusting his guitar into the air, blowing kisses to the audience or giving little, heartfelt speeches, he’s well-schooled in the book of stadium-rock manoeuvres.
At no point is he given a greater opportunity to flex his rock muscles than during the guitar noodling friendly 'I’m So Afraid', which closed out the first part of the set before an encore break.
As Lindsey thrashed his guitar strings with a look of determination as though the guitar may explode any minute, a solitary, balding man with a neatly trimmed beard wearing a polo shirt slowly began to rise, thrusting his hands in the air and applauding loudly. His approval so strong he couldn’t even wait until the end of the song to applaud the reverb-soaked noodling.

It’s hard to argue with the set list, which lasted around 150 minutes covering most of their most popular songs. A set list so strong, it’s the same they’ve been playing on the entire tour. The mid-set breakdown of 'Big Love', 'Landslide' and 'Never Going Back Again' in particular helped change the dynamic to keep it interesting.
Lindsay’s solo rendition of 'Big Love' is a majestic masterpiece that still sees him belt out the vocals as though he won’t have to be doing this again, night after night.
Even Mick Fleetwood got his own, elongated drum solo during 'World Turning', interjected with eccentric vocal grunts and Anglicised phrases that can’t help but make you smile. His drum kit is the personification of '80s opulence, undeterred by the crane dropped drummer from Spinal Tap.
Instead Mick has a second 'cocktail' kit brought out for him after the acoustic break placing him at an awkward angle at the front of the stage. Did Spinal Tap have two kits? I think not.

The last time Fleetwood made it to Brisbane, they were missing Christine, and hearing her vocals on 'Little Lies' and 'Everywhere' were two particular highlights. It’s good to hear tracks from 'Tango In The Night' getting an airing with that sound having returned to fashion, the likes of Haim being more than a little influenced by them.
It’s likely the last time they’ll play if Buckingham is to be believed. You’d think they looked tired or bored, but unless they’re just good actors this performance suggested they’ve still got more in them if they want it.

I'm the same, just the other side of my neck! I got distracted half way through going "Are the girls here? I think I can hear them but I can't see them." And I definitely didn't know there was a third one until band intros
There's a shock! I was actually telling my brother about this when I was working out who I could schmooze to get up to the stage, but I decided that sadly I'm not even young enough any more
Haha, yes! It's funny that now I listen to it I can't really tell anything is wrong with the first go either, but it was very obvious at the time.
 It's funny because it's true! She's such a fusspot.
And Nicole, thank you again for your videos :xoxo:
yeah regarding the backup girls they were standing way in the back corner, i was sitting directly in front of them i could see their mouths moving but could hardly hear them .. Lori looks so thin mainly her legs, and i couldn't believe how big Sharon's boobs were
Looking forward to seeing them again tonight, i will be sitting just behind the floor seats, so at least no chance of getting a stiff neck this time.
Excited:blob2:

That encore clip is funny, Nicole. I like Christine blowing her whistle to hurry them along. And I don't know what Lindsey was doing. Like was he putting a mint in his mouth, but examining it first? Uh, if he had taken that mint and put in in Stevie's mouth ...
Christine is pretty hot in her black jeans.

not related to Stevie's "lasso" gestures was it?
by far the worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrst of all the gestures she ever did
give me air piano/guitar/drums any day
but not the lasso
He used to swing the guitar cord in her direction and I thought, "oh my goodness. Please don't let the cord hit that woman."
I kind of liked Stevie's lasso movement for SYW. It was funny how everyone in the front audience did it with her. And she'd do a little paintbrush motion for Lindsey's song.
It's a wonder she didn't pantomine someone not being allowed to eat, if they didn't have a reservation for WTWCT.

Pretty sure his finger or a nail was being a bit of a nuisance for him all night. He spends a good while on it while Stevie introduces Landslide.

They love to titillate. When those shows air in January I'm going to be insane. I will no longer be a functioning human being.

Man, I'm considering a last minute purchase for tonight. I can get one if I want it. Such a dilemma!
Also, the Tusk video has reminded me of a cute little moment Stevie and Christine had -- Stevie went right up to Chris and looked like she was trying to count "1, 2, 3, 4" to get them stepping/swaying together in time. She did it twice but Chris couldn't hear her so Stevie just gave up. That's the exchange you can see around 5:48 in Nicole's video. Very cute.

Woah, another mad XF fan here. The banter and teasing (of us!) from GA and DD on Twitter is pretty much the most amazing thing in the world. If Stevie could overcome her Luddite ways, she and Lindsey could be stardust ;)

I wouldn't advise taking anything out of someone's sweaty fingers and putting it in your mouth -- even if you've been intimate with them, in the past.

I kind of prefer Stevie NOT being active on twitter or anywhere online. Makes her more mysterious and appealing.
GA and DD on the other hand ... there was a point it was getting out of control and I was waking up every morning and dying at their shenanigans
Mulder/Scully and GA/DD will always be my first SHIP :D the fact that Gillian loves Fleetwood Mac and David now plays guitar just makes them even better
