Stevie Nicks is on Don Henley's new album Cass County, but it's only on the Target exclusive version. The song she appears on is "It Don't Matter to the Sun."

SO excited!!!!

It's interesting- all of the photos used for promoting Cass County weren't actually taken in Cass County (Texas, where Henley is from), they are all in neighboring Harrison County, on Caddo Lake. False advertising! :p

In any event, I really look forward to hearing this duet with Stevie! :]

I wish I didn't know that Henley is such

Yes, for some it's a tradition in the United States. They go out to woods to die in their old age. They eat what they can forage, catch ringworm, and use leaves as toilet paper. I'm assuming that Don has been living in Walden Woods for awhile, probably only leaving to cut an album. He definitely looks crusty. Probably over did the viagra too. Not sure what Europeans do.

No, not elderly people, but maybe those who live isolated away from society.

People used to say the Sears catalog -- but Sears has been having business troubles lately and then the environment has gone green too, which reduces volume. The catalog paper wouldn't get you very far in a digestive crisis.

I'm not a big Henley fan. I haven't ardently followed his solo career outside of the Eagles. But I surely respect his talent. (I think he looks great for man in his sixties --not that it matters much).

I am planning a trek to Target to purchase the exclusive version of his album which features two other tracks -- one with Stevie.

Even though I want Stevie to polish up more lingering demos and churn out another 24 Karat Gold-like album, I hope Don's album inspires her to seriously consider doing a country-leaning album of her own. It could possibly become a cross-over success. She has that natural country sensibility in her.

Somewhat incongruous side note: After the Mamas & Papas broke up, John Phillips took a hard right turn and released a surprisingly stunning country album. Though it it wasn't a commercial success, it was well-respected. Michelle said it could have been a great Mamas and Papas album. Stevie can make a great country album on her own, and I think the country world would embrace her.

I've been saying Stevie should try the country field since I joined this forum 12 years ago and just noticed almost 9000 posts later .She can do it .I dont know why she holding out on doing a country album. What she is afraid of.Others did and had hits.Don't be afraid to test the waters.

I always enjoyed and love the Eagles and its members solo albums. The Eagles are one of the key starter for country rock and country crossover and probably influenced most of the current country artists.

I agree hanging with Don and others in the country field .Hanging out in Nashville lately around country people in the biz.Hopefully she gets into a country album.
And invited to the Grand Ole Opry .I will fly down there to see her on the stage.

I always enjoyed Mamas and the Papas.John Phillips is great.I got to check more out from him.My mom loved Cass Elliot.

She can still do her 24K part deux because we want it plus promote it with a small tour and do the FM album to get some fans of her rear for holding up the project. After that is all said and done. She can record something country.

I was remiss to mention Stevie's friend Sheryl Crow went country with her last album, and and she was welcomed into that community. Maybe that will give Stevie a little nudge.

Your mom had good musical tastes! I happen to be in a Cass phase at the moment; I've been playing all of her solo albums, which is really only five albums (one with Dave Mason) and a live album, but with an amount of stray songs and bonus tracks to to constitute several other albums.

Check out John Phillips' first album "John the Wolfking og LA."

I love Stevie's Country Music demos and she has plenty of time later to sing that genre. What I want is a pure rock and roll record from her. No ballads. Seeing performances like last night's Stop Draggin' and GDW with the Foo Fighters in Los Angeles only reaffirms that feeling for me. She always claimed to be a rock-roll singer. I want to hear more of that.(Yeah Skip, I know you are not a fan of loud screaming guitars. And I am not either except when SN is involved).

I went out and got the album today. This song is lovely. Don Henley has been doing it solo live for several years now but Stevie makes it a standout track. Her vocal is so tender and vulnerable. I love it!

My only complaint: more Stevie (as much as I love Don, Stevie comes first in my heart). Also, it definitely should have been on the regular album. I can only hope this "exclusivity" to Target is only for a limited time and it will eventually find its way onto iTunes and streaming services.

If he had Stevie singing or harmonizing on one of the front end verses, it would been more of a balanced duet. Instead, it' s as if Stevie is just making a brief guest appearance at the end.

You're so right about that! But she would need guidance from a pure rock and roller to pull that off. Someone like David Groh, or somebody slightly off the grid/not so obvious. The audio template of Stone Temples Pilots comes to mind.

Stevie needed to harmonize with Don in the second verse. First verse him only. Second, both. Then she starts singing and they end singing together. I would have produced it a bit differently. I agree - that was a great vocal for her.

I heard the song on youtube. I agree this should have been on the standard version of Don's album. Unfortunately even on Spotify the "deluxe" version doesn't contain this. I hate when labels do that sh*t.

This reminds me when Patty Smyth released "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" in 1992, it featured Don Henley......but it wasn't considered a duet. Same thing here. Stevie has a small part on this song which is like a special featured artist, but not quite a duet.

You're right. There are two spots (only a note or syllable here and there) which have definitely been put through auto-tune. I can only hear it on the word "moon" at 2:39 during the line "no the moon will just keep hangin' round"...and again on the word "another" at 2:54 on the line "he'll find another place to shine down".

It was most likely used in those two spots to clean up something that was either slightly sharp or flat. But that's it. You can't hear anymore auto-tune. I'm amused at your choice of words "unfamiliar" and "too pitch perfect".

This is the most "familiar" Stevie vocal I've heard in quite a long time. Her vocal nuances - like her 3 note downward run on the last "hangin' round", the way she gets a little quiet during the "other lover's dreams" part, her trademark inability to sustain certain words without dropping into another harmonic key, and my favorite - the last time she says the word "moon" while harmonizing with Don at 3:21. Goosebumps! Only Stevie would choose the dissonant note within the corresponding chord and run with it!

Just my opinion. :D

LOL... well, it could also be that he just wanted to shut down that line of inquiry from the reporter. Maybe something to do with his Southern upbringing as he mentions, where you are raised not to blab about or inquire about certain things.

Stevie always says she couldn't write a book because there are certain people who would be upset, and that she has to wait until they're too old to care anymore what stories she might spill. Sounds like Grumpy is one of them.

Nice performance. Don Henley still sounds great.

While it be nice if there were more Stevie, it makes sense that she comes on in the end if you follow the lyrics. Don is associated with the sun and Stevie with the moon in the relationship portrayed in the song.

I didn't know this song before, but I learned it dates back to Garth Brooks wearing a wig as the "rock star" Chris Gaines in the late 90s.

He didn't write it either. It's written by the people who wrote Eric Clapton's "Change the World." I like that one too.

I always wondered why it was never billed as a duet. Anyone know why? Stevie is billed on the album and when I hear it on the radio it's usually introduced as Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks. But because she is not on the single, I had trouble finding the record in stores back in the day - especially since I never knew the actual title and just guessed it was called Sweet Love Showing Us A Heavenly Light lol.

Perhaps nowadays it is because SN is a musical Legend now. But during its heyday and all through the 80's, 90's & 00's they very rarely ever said her name. It used to tick me off to no end. LOL

I, too, always thought it was strange that Stevie wasn't credited at all on the "Whenever I Call You 'Friend'" single.

I have the album (just for that song) and she's credited with "harmony vocals"

But aside from the choir of Kennys on the intro, the song is absolutely a full-fledged duet.

Maybe she didn't push for credit because she didn't co-write the song (Melissa M. did), and she was just doing a favor for a friend. Or maybe she didn't have a manager/label yet that would push for her rights as a solo act.

I looked at the back of a Kenny Loggins greatest hits album once and it listed Steve Perry as a duet partner on "Don't Fight It" but no mention of Stevie with "Whenever."

Maybe she was a little embarrassed by Kenny and the song. It's catchy, but a little cheesy.

However, I feel like it's an important song because one of the handful of Stevie lead vocals on official releases recorded before her voice began to change (apparent on Tusk).

It is cheesy, but less so than Cheaper Than Free.

Without Stevie's sweet love vocals, I don't think Whenever I Call You Friend would have gone anywhere -- certainly not anywhere with me. And I don't say that because I like her. When I first heard that song, I didn't even know it was her. Same for Magnet and Steele. Same for Gold. It's the background vocals that captured me on all of those songs, before I loved Fleetwood Mac. Gal used to turn music into gold. Michele

He looks old. He's got that "I whipe my asss with leaves" look.

Don Henley is a humongous ass.

I'm embarrassed to say I originally didn't know it was her either.
Sometimes we'd (meaning "I") would con my old boss in to letting
us play a soft-rock radio station at work. This was the early to mid-
eighties, so I had just become a fan. Anyways I kept hearing this song
on the radio. And then one day the light bulb came on. I called the
radio station and asked is that Stevie Nicks singing on that song. And
my suspicions were confirmed.

As I read the RS review on Don's album. There was no mention of Stevie at all in it.Or I must be blind and did not see the small print.

Probably because his song with Stevie isn't on the regular album. It's merely a bonus track on the Target exclusive. RS typically will only review the regular versions of records and not mention anything exclusive to Target, Amazon, iTunes, etc.

This is about the CD and not the duet. I'm a mild DH fan and I listened to this CD once and won't ever listen to it again. For me, it's that bad. The lyrics are all cliches. It was so bad that in a couple of songs, I was actually predicting the next line of a song before he sang it, and I"m not that good. The song about a single mother working as a waitress was just patronizing to women. Yuck. Since I'm not a big fan I don't really care, but even so I was really disappointed. I love Boys of Summer and The Last Resort and a few other songs of his, but this stuff is just bad, IMO.

Sorry to be so negative, but I rarely dislike anything this much and I just needed a place to complain. :) I'm better now.

No need to be sorry.

I understand your opinion. I'm also a "mild" Don Henley fan. I had expectations this would be a more lively affair. Rather than calling it bad, I'd say it's just bland. I'm not a country music aficionado by any means, but I think an album like Billy and Bekka's country album (from years ago) is more dynamic and appealing.

I've listened to the Target version of the album several times. It's sort of like audio wallpaper --- undemanding backround music suitable in morning hours or late evenings.

Damn! I was just at Target last night!
One of my favorite albums of the year......I may just have to give my copy to someone else and pick this version up!

His album debuted at 3 selling almost 90000 copies. You can thank country music people for that. 24k got better reviews than his new album.

I believe it entered at #1 on the Country charts!

I like the song, but it sounds very "patch worked" to me.....all the other harmony and backing vocal perfectly blend with and support the lead vocal....Stevie's vocal sounds tacked on at the last minute!
And I would much rather have heard her do the second verse, with them coming together in the third, much like they did with Miranda and Mick. Still, a really nice song!

Thats great news for him.I hope they play the sht out of it instead of the so called country artists.I dont tune into current country radio anymore.I bailed out of it years ago .They all sound the same with the autotuned manufactured music and it sound like crap..

Don and the Eagles are 100 more country then todays currents.

Rant over.

Maybe he will perform on the CMA's next month.

Is the album worth buying? I'm not particularly a fan of Don Henley but I do like the Eagles somewhat. I would really only buy this album cause of Stevie but wondering whether I should or if I would be better off downloading the particular track?

If you like the Eagles, you'll like this album! I think it's the closest thing he's ever done to the Eagles, solo-wise!
As for Stevie's track....don't expect too much......it's one of my favorite cuts, but blink and you'll miss here!!!

Did they let Stevie Play piano too? The music to this song sounds like a stevie demo from the mid 70s with equally ****ty piano playing, but Don Henleys voice does not come close to Stevie's 70s voice. Stevie's part slightly redeems that song, but not much

I would only buy it if it were cheaper than free :) (and that's from someone who bought it and it definitely wasn't)
