This is a new version of Landslide and it's being used as the main theme song for the movie Suffragette with Meryl Streep. It's by Robyn Sherwell. Looks like Stevie is going to get even more royalties from this song. This song just keeps going and going and going...

It is an epic song and Stevie deserves every credit, I am so happy for her. To think that it was written by someone so young and all these years later, it is still going, is awesome.
Congratulations to Stevie, she deserves the world. xx

Robyn Sherwell did a wonderful job with this song. To me it sounds like it could have been a Stevie demo before guitar was added. It is such a simple vocal, not clouded by heavy instrumentation. I love the reverb vocal. I bet this song will do well for the movie, for Fleetwood Mac and for Stevie Nicks.

Wow. This can only mean good things for Stevie and I bet she got a big fat cheque for this.

it's already netted her some 7 million in royalties

I'm not the fan I once was -I don't even own a copy of 24Karat-don't really even like it  -and I don't comment here like I used to (I'm getting older too) but when I see things like this and realize what a cultural icon Stevie has become, my heart smiles and I know I picked the right "rock n' roll idol" all those years ago!
I'm not in love with this version, but I see how it's style fits in with the movie so...TWO THUMBS UP!

That song has been a very, very good pension plan for her. She said something once about her songs being like her children who would take care of her when she got old.

It isn't like she isn't still raking it in anyway..The cash grab tours with Fleetwood Mac are making her many millions every year that they go on.

This reminds me of Stevie saying she gave her mom Silver Springs as a gift, since she wouldn't take money from her. Of course, I'm sure there were other gifts: "Here, Aunt June. I want you to have The Second Time."

Notice the drumbeat in Robyn's Islander?

"Landside" has become sort of like Stevie's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" song. It's in that rare status of sentimental songs that transcend time, and will be covered for many years to come.

Though the song always held a special appeal, it was just a deep album track on the 1975 Fleetwood Man album. It's stature in the general public grew slowly over time. Now it's become a universally well-known, well-loved song.

It's the vulnerability expressed in the song that so many people connect with. Stevie has written other songs in that realm, but because of their esotericism, they never had the emotional impact that "Landside" has.

Music is both art and commerce. It's nice that she has songs like this that can continually generate a substantial income.

I like this and all but would have preferred Fleetwood Mac's version in the film.

I get the idea that it won't be played during the film (it is a historical picture after all), but just over the closing credits when people start exiting the theater. :distress:

Still, it's nice for Stevie to have one of her songs attached to what looks like a prestigious picture. Instead of something like 'Heavy Metal' where 'Blue Lamp' was played for like 10 seconds, and in a scene - the cabbie taking to prostitutes in the police station if I remember correctly - that had nothing to do with the song at all.

Ditto for 'Sleeping Angel', 'Battle of the Dragon', and 'Twisted'.

Did anyone see 'Sweet November'? I did, but don't remember hearing 'Touched By An Angel' in it.

There's a film called Suffragette being advertised.. The backing music is a vocal, spooky version of Landslide. Is this new or something I just missed?

Could never listen to covers of this song, as great as any singer may be they can't do it justice. Sorry if I sound biased :sorry:

I kind of like the Smashing Pumpkins cover of it though..it is just different enough to make it interesting.

One of my friends favorite stories involves this song. I was out at a bar with him and met this really great guy and we hit it off. We exchanged numbers and went out on a date. I can't remember how it came up but we talked about our favorite musicians and I of course mentioned my girl Stevie Nicks. He had no idea who she was and I mentioned Landslide and he said "OMG I love that Dixie Chicks song"....when I told my friend he said "Gav, that ain't gonna work out"

Actually the first to post it was Sanne (Goldduststevie) in the nuggets section but it's not bad to be reminded.

I saw 'Suffragette' today.

While the movie is excellent, 'Landslide' is NOWHERE in the film! Not even over the ending credits.

It was only used for the trailer. :distress:

"Here you go, Person-who-does-my-nails, take my portion of royalties for 'Love is Dangerous' as your tip."

you laugh but it has been rumored for years that she in fact has given a lot of people at least a share in the royalties for many of her songs...and sometimes the musical contribution was negligible. Other times people did help her make a song successful in one way or another. Hernan Rojas claims she gave him a portion of Sara for helping her arrange it. Of course, they also began dating sometime during the recording of Tusk as well....

It seems like a lot of that was earlier on in her career with FM; after the entourage got around her and had more control I wouldn't be surprised if that stopped.

From Wikipedia:

"No Questions Asked" is a soft rock song performed by British-American music group Fleetwood Mac, and written by Stevie Nicks. Nicks gave her friend Kelly Johnston a writing credit because Nicks wrote the song in a hotel room without a tape recorder and Kelly Johnston provided one for her. Nicks claims the song would never have been written if Johnston had not been there.
