FOMO: From Hobbits to Stevie Nicks, some pop culture phenomenons never seem to stick

Stevie Nicks

Look, I love her. But I live in fear of those who really love her. It’s like when you go to a place that serves really good burritos, and as you enjoy your food, someone at the table next to you says, “This burrito is a goddess.” Then the person sitting across from them proclaims, “This burrito is the angel of my dreams!” And when you decide to speak out—“um, it’s just a burrito, actually”—the whole restaurant jolts and hisses at you. So you lay low, afraid to say more, like how the burrito tasted much better 30 years ago and that you’re just really f*cking sick of “Rhiannon.”

Rhiannon burn out is inevitable when Stevie never lets her rest. One time I her saw perform - I think it was the Whole Lotta Tr0uble/Mirror tour, and I was grateful that Rhiannon wasn't performed. There are certain songs she just drives into the ground. She ignores a vast amount of her songs written long after 1975 that could be great performances in concert. A lot of older bands give a nod to their beginnings, but they don't rely so much on the past as much as Stevie does.

I'd probably cry tears of joy if she replaced Rhiannon with Beautiful Child in the setlist.

I love that song too. She has performed it on one tour. Rhiannon is somewhat of a rocker, while Beautiful Child is a ballad. To switch out one for the other would be a drastic shift of mood and balance.

I liked it in her Q & A when she singled out Love Is as a song she enjoys doing.
