Will Stevie ever record a new Solo Album after 24K?

Hopefully Songs from the Vault 2!

She has said how fast and easy it was to do and also in one of her videos she said that this was 'the best for 2014'. Hopefully this means a Vol 2 coming soon. No doubt that'll reach #8 on the Billboard 200 which would give her consecutive #5, 6, 7 and 8 albums!

Well, it depends on whether "new" means new songs or more demos. I think she will release more demos.

I think she will TOTALLY release "Songs From The Vault" part 2 within the next two years. As far as an album with mostly newly written material, I'm about 50% sure that she will, but it will be much later on down the road (her early 70's) and it will be her LAST solo record in that regard. If she does anything else afterward, it will be a "Songs From The Vault" part 3, as well as a 5 or 6 disc career retrospective boxed set, and perhaps another "live" album...but even that might be pushing it.

I think this upcoming Fleetwood Mac album is going to be their last...but I hope I'm wrong.

The Rhiannon Project has been talked about for over 3 decades now but has still never come to fruition...and sadly, I don't think it ever will...and again, I HOPE I'M WRONG!

Does anyone else think that the next "boxed set" of hers should include both solo AND Fleetwood Mac material?

Remastered is right!!! I still think there is something wrong with the vocals on this album. They seem so muffled compared to IYD and TISL.

I've heard others say the same, but I'm not hearing it. She sounds brazenly clear to me, to the point where every vocal flaw is amplified. Live, real, here, now.

It's very subtle. I agree that the vocals sound clear and all, but there's just something about it (perhaps the mic that they used, or a mic screen, or perhaps the way it was mastered) that makes it sound like she's singing behind a thin blanket (or shawl ) because the sound of the vocal just seems a smidge softer than IYD or TISL, which were both "in your face". I wish I could properly describe what I'm trying to say in this regard as far as how it sounds to my ear...but I can't.

Perhaps I'm just getting old.

Hopefully Songs from the Vault 2!

I think the whole Vault Songs thing was an interesting concept, but I personally wouldn't want to see it repeated.

I'm on the fence whether or not I think she'll even record another album, though. I'm wondering if 24k will sell enough to cover it's costs. Not that Stevie is hard up for cash, but there is likely a tipping point where she stops bothering. She'll tour until she's twirling in her motorized wheelchair... but recording? I'm just not sure.

In her "Making the Album" video for 24KG, she repeatedly emphasized that she has "many, many" songs left in the vault, and that these are the best songs for "now," for "2014." I bet we'll get Volume 2 within the next year or two.

As far as newly written material, not so sure. It's unclear how much she's been writing (as in, seriously writing, song writing) recently. In an interview promoting the album, she noted (very candidly, I thought), that she couldn't currently write many of the songs that are included on 24KG, because she would have to "run right out and get into a relationship." I think she's at a happy point in her life professionally and personally, and frankly, such circumstances don't always lead to great creative spurts in terms of lyrics, etc.

I sure as hell hope so. I feel that with 24 Karat Gold a whole new realm of possibility has opened up for her, a rebirth, if you will. I know the songs are old but her voice coupled with the production are some full of energy and rejeuvenation...she hasn't recorded anything this good in many years.

*nod* Plus, she already has a ton of vault songs to still get out. I think if anything she might write 2 or 3 new songs for Mac albums, but her solo albums could focus on vault songs now.

I do see a 24k volume 2. I think this makes for a good follow up. This one can feature her "Rhiannon songs"

Just wondering what bearing FM will have on "Solo Stevie"...Will Mick and now Lindsey issuing comments about Stevie's involvement (or not ) with FM recording as a way to put pressure on her work? Or will it backfire and cause Stevie to bail on the Mac and go on solo a recording spree?

I think she will do another album and most likely will stay with the collaboration with Dave Stewart and Waddy will continue to have a greater presence. It would be hard to top 24K but as we know, there are enough songs that we've heard at least, that are as good or better than some on this stellar collection. Songwriting wise, in her most creative era she had both quantity and quality on her side, nowadays it would be wise to focus on quality if she's going to write new material intended for release.

I do worry though about the toll this constant touring will have on her voice as it has shown in the past to be not so kind to her vocals. Although maybe not for this forum, I am really disappointed the Mac chose to tour instead of focusing on the new album first and it's created a lot of awkwardness around 24K and I think will have a negative impact on how that album reaches the mainstream.

Well, it depends on whether "new" means new songs or more demos. I think she will release more demos.

Michele

I consider her demos as potential new songs, since they are works/work-in-progress, never officially finished or released. She won't be releasing demos; she will be releasing new songs re-fashioned from old demos that were never intended to be heard.

I think of 4 Karat Gold as new songs mined from old demos. Fully fleshed out in the studio with new arrangements, they are new songs, especially from the general public perspective, who had no prior knowledge of them.

Since she has so many other demos with strong potential, I hope she releases Songs from the Vault: Volume 2.

You are right on with that. Dave should be given recognition for lighting a fire under her, inspiring her, and showing her a new way to work. Without him we would not have two new albums in less than 10 year apart. Unprecedented!

I don't think she will. She hasn't been shown a bunch of support f0r this album. She delivered a great product but has basically been put out to pasture. She only has 10 reviews on Metacritic which absolutely horrible. The album isn't even being reviewed. I think when an artist puts out an album of high quality, they expect it to do something. Not the record company's fault. She is just not getting much support from the industry or so called fans. By the time fans get done with the album, it will be rated lower than Street Angel on Amazon.

Plus, there will be a Fleetwood Mac album, which means a tour. The album won't go gold. That will be it right there. Stevie already said she is feeling old. Dave is not at her beckon call. I think she enjoys working with him but they are both just getting old. She is not going to quit her career on a low note.

Yes, exactly. No one was saying about TISL when it was released "Oh look, she's only giving us 10 'new' songs and 3 rehashed demos." All tracks were considered new songs even though they were written long ago. To think of 24 Karat Gold as rehashed demos is unfair. It is a new album, of new songs, written in the past, just like much of Bella Donna was written before Tusk, and a majority of In Your Dreams' lyrics were written in Stevie's journals long before Dave ever showed up at her door.

For purposes of this poll, I think it would be interesting to make a distinction between an album of new songs and an album of demos or, the third option, no more albums at all, to see which people think will be most likely.

Which is why the "vault" marketing this time around was not a good idea. If she does release a new set of demos, she should not subtitle them "songs from the vault" when they will be "new" to a majority of listeners.

I'm with you. Any distinction in her voice in 24 Karat Gold can be attributed to the nontraditional was recorded. Just as you said, the vocals are more pure and less refined. They were going for raw emotion more than perfection. It's a refreshing change, which can catch some people off guard when it wasn't expected.

You make a good point. As KarmaContestant pointed out, Stevie's previous albums have featured a few vault songs, but she never made that distinction obvious (only die-hard fans knew).

If she recorded another album with a mix of a vault songs, along with a few new ones, the general public would never no the difference; however Stevie loves to blab on incessantly about her songs as if they were her children. Songs from the Vault volume 2 is more likely.

I remember in some old interview that she said writes and records a lot of her demos in her bathroom because of the acoustics. Possible alternate album titles:

Songs from the Bathroom
Song from the Restroom
Songs from the Loo
Songs from the Powder Room
Songs from the Water Closet
?

I think she will definitely record more albums sooner than later. As pointed earlier, love him or hate him, Dave obviously is an inspiration to Stevie and without him, we probably never would have gotten IYD or 24K. Stevie said she had 3 months off and decided she wanted to make a quick record and went to Dave. Now when has that ever happened before that she randomly wanted to make a record?? NEVER. So I forsee tons of new music as long as Dave is around to keep pushing her in the right direction.

The album made it to number 7 .Like I pointed out her biggest rival during her solo heyday Pat Benatar has not had a top ten album since 1982!Jackson Browne arguably the greatest songwriter of Stevie's generation and genre put out possibly his strongest new studio album since the 1970s the same day as 24KG and it did not even make the top ten and has only 4 reviews on metacritic.

It's not that there isn't a place for Stevie in todays market ( look at how well her "Self portrait" exhibit did ) it's the fact that all promotion for "Solo Stevie" has more or less STOPPED!! And now that "24 Karat Gold" has been released all the focus is on the FM tour...

But it does! Stevie is obviously very proud of this album and very candidly talked about how she set out to make a great record, not a hit record. She loves her songs, and seems so pleased for them to finally have a home. And it's important for her legacy as well - it's truly her finest work in decades.

I don't think the record not selling so well detracts from it one bit, that's such a negative attitude to take. Stevie is outselling many of her contemporaries (look at Heart's last album, or Blondie's, for instance). But, at the end of the day, she's made a fantastic album that will make those that do hear it very happy.

I'd rather Stevie made a fantastic album that only a few people heard, than a mediocre one that millions would buy. She's a legacy artist, she was never going to set the charts alight. We should be proud of the quality of the music and just be happy that she's still releasing great music at this stage of her career. I do think she'll make another album, as long as Dave Stewart is involved. She's accepted that she's not going to sell millions anymore, so we should too.

I don't think she will.
She hasn't been shown a bunch of support f0r this album.

Stevie already said she is feeling old.

WOW! You're really in a "glass half empty" mode today, aren't you? Put out to pasture??? Are you kidding??? She debuted at #7!!! Like Artemis and others have pointed out, she is probably the oldest Rock and Roll woman/legend who is doing this. Blondie's last record peaked at 109!!! The record before that didn't even chart! Heart's last album peaked at 24!!! Cyndi Lauper's last two albums peaked at 41 and 26, and the one before that didn't even chart. And Pat Benatar's last two albums peaked at 171 and 187. I LOVE ALL THESE WOMEN but none of them can touch Stevie Nicks!!! None of them come close to her numbers! While I think that 24KG should be judged for it's content and not its sales figures or "success", I DO think it's telling that it has debuted at #7!!! I don't think her fans (or the general public) have betrayed her. And I certainly don't think the Industry has "put her out to pasture".

By the way, NOBODY cares about Metacritic. And just so you know, Amazon has 50 plus reviews already in the past two weeks it's been out, and 90% of them are "glowing!!!" And who cares if the album goes gold or not? IYD still hasn't reached gold status yet. Do we care? Should be care? In my opinion, I think it's the QUALITY of the music within these albums that will continue to shine years later. And it's the QUALITY of these experiences of recording the album that will make her want to continue recording more albums.

The woman is 66. Most Billboard Top 10 artists are below 30. She's doing a darn good job giving these kids a run for their money! And the most important thing about this latest project is that she doesn't care about sales! She's NOT competing!

"I'm going to make a GREAT record, not a HIT record!" ~ This should be her mantra for the rest of her life!!! As well it should be for ANY great musician who has been doing it as long as she has!!!

Well

1. Nicks obviously didn't expect this album to sell. She flat out said "I want to make a great record, not a hit record. No one buys records anymore anyway."

2. A #7 debut is amazing for anyone, let alone a legacy artist.

3. I think the Mac tour is helping, not hurting. I've often seen in media commentary about the Mac shows also commentary about Nicks have a solo album out.
