What is your favourite Lindsey song from Tusk?

His creative masterpiece, mine is That's All For Everyone, I love the rhythm and the vocals.

Up there would also be The Ledge and Save Me A Place.

What's everyone else's?

Absolutely Tusk itself. It's tribal at the beginning and then it's like a circus joins in the end.

Toss up between The Ledge, That's Enough for Me, and I Know I'm Not Wrong.

Tusk followed by I Know I'm Not Wrong

The rest are so-so.

I don't think Lindsey was completely successful with his songs for Tusk. None reaches the brilliance of Stevie's songs or the complexity of Christine's (see Brown Eyes and Honey Hi). But when you listen to the album as a whole, I think the songs become more essential to the sound of the album...many just don't stand out on their own. My favorites though are Tusk, What Makes You Think You're the One, and The Ledge, in that order.

"I Know I'm Not Wrong" is my favorite Lindsey song on Tusk. In fact it's my second favorite Mac song behind "Hold Me". I like all of his songs on the album, but "That's All for Everyone"; "Not That Funny" and "Walk a Thin Line" aren't up to the standards of his others.

Walk a Thin Line. I honestly like all of Lindsey's Tusk songs except for That's Enough For Me.

I'm probably in the minority, but Stevie's songs as a whole(even though I loved Sara, Storms and SOTM) weren't the highlight of Tusk for me originally. I was a Stevie fan first when I initially heard the album, but it was Lindsey and Christine's songs that made me love Tusk.

I feel that Lindsey's songs stand out for the very reasons you feel that they don't. Stevie and Christine, for the most part, stayed within the boundaries of their styles. Lindsey deliberately wanted to break the mold and not fall into a Rumours II mode. He found his muse with the punk/new-wave movement that was happening at that time. He shed his hippie fro and kimono a for a new-wave haircut and suit that signaled those influences.

Like many people, striking difference was unexpected, confusing and not very appealing. I had a hard time understanding/accepting the odd, weird rawness of his songs. It took a over a decade to warm up to them and understand their importance on the the album.

With a 21st Century perspective, it's clear Lindsey was more progressive than anyone was prepared for. His brilliance was just misunderstood. The Tusk album now has a new-found prestige, respect and appreciation. Because of his songs as well as his production, the album has aged well. I wouldn't want it to be any different.

Aside from Tusk, my favorites are The Ledge, I Know I'm Not Wrong, That's All For Everyone and Walk A Thin Line.

I love That's All For Everyone....so creative, such amazing harmonies..

Love The Ledge and Walk A Thin Line too.

I've come to appreciate Save Me A Place, but the only song I don't like is That's enough For me...the screaming! I like every song on Tusk except for that one.

I love how this song has become a rousing, energetic concert staple. It was overlooked for a long time. It was rehearsed for the Tusk tour, but never made it to the set list. Then it fell into obscurity. On the second release of Tusk, we got a different mix of the song. When did Lindsey start performing the song? I think it was with his solo band.

What a great version of this classic Tusk song. I haven't seen the band yet this tour (Halloween is my date) but I'm loving that "I Know I'm Not Wrong" is in the setlist - my second favorite track from Tusk, as I simply adore and worship "Save Me A Place". Nice thread.. some Lindsey love.

Am looking through the old FM Legacy site guide to tours right now and it says with the setlist for Tusk in one spot that:

“(usually two or three of the following seven tracks came next: Over & Over, Sara, Not That Funny, That's Enough For Me, I Know I'm Not Wrong, The Ledge, and Oh Daddy)”

It was then played on the SYW tour (in 2004). And Lindsey's UTS and GoS tours. And the Unleashed tour.

He started playing "I Know I'm Not Wrong" on the second leg of the Say You Will tour in '04. It's also been played on his "Under the Skin" and "Gift of Screws" tours, the band's Unleashed tour, and now the latest tour.

Tusk
I Know I'm Not Wrong
That's Enough for Me
Save Me a Place
That's All for Everyone

Lindsey could have omitted two of his tracks so Stevie could have had six songs instead of five. I know her songs are longer than everyone else's, but she deserved just as many songs on Tusk as Christine.

I like Tusk too. What Makes You think You're the One is good too.

I love them all.
But, Walk a Thin Line is his masterpiece.
Especially with good headphones or sitting in
front of really good speakers.

Earbuds and Bose speakers don't qualify.

I love every song on Tusk, so I'm not really objective.
For me it was the creative peak for the whole band.
I love every groove of all four sides, the packaging, the lyrics.
Since the day it came out in 1979, I've never gotten tired of
it.

So, in other words, she should have just gotten more time on the album than the other songwriters because you happen to like her better?

For me...

"I Know I'm Not Wrong"

"Save Me A Place" is probably 2nd.

(even though Lindsey sings it and is given songwriting credit for it, I consider "Tusk" really a Mick song. It's probably my favorite song from Tusk overall)

Actually I think he should have forgone one of his songs for an extra Christine song.

All Lindsey songs: 27.17
All Stevie songs: 26.52
All Christine songs: 20.25

One less Lindsey song and one more Christine would have made it much more even (and resulted in Stevie having the most playing time).

Incidentally, I hadn't realized Think About Me is only 2 minutes and 44 seconds. She should have padded that one out a bit more.

Walk A Thin Line is a beautiful, hugely underrated little ballad. It's always been my favorite Lindsey tune on Tusk, perhaps because it was a rare moment of tenderness from him during that era.

Yes, she is my favourite, but that’s got nothing to do with it. Lindsey has nine songs whereas Stevie has five and Christine has six. Yes, Stevie’s songs run longer, but it’s still not a fair number of songs from each band member. Stevie only has two songs on FM ’75 and three on Mirage while Lindsey has five on each. I can understand why Stevie doesn't have as many tracks on Tango in the Night because she was absent for a lot of the recording sessions. Lindsey dominates Tusk because he has nearly half of the album to himself while Stevie's and Christine's songs are scattered in between. Stevie might have the longer songs, but she doesn't dominate the album like Lindsey does. I also don't like the big gap between Christine's songs (Think About Me and Brown Eyes).

I would have liked something like this:

Lindsey = 7 tracks
Christine = 7 tracks
Stevie = 6 tracks

That's my opinion. You don't have to agree with it.

But she could have had more songs if she'd cut hers down.
Beautiful Child is a lovely song but it doesn't need to run to 5.23 and ditto Storms at 5.31
They alone could have just about given her an extra song if she'd wanted.

I think that's a valid point. And it probably explains why Stevie went on to pursue a solo career. If Stevie had sung Crystal then she would have had 3 songs on FM FM. I kind of wish band members wrote for each other more than they do....I think Lindsey taking Crystal is the only song I can think of that was written by someone else. I love his version; I also wish there was a recording of Stevie singing it from the 70s.

...but it’s still not a fair number of songs from each band member.

There's never "equality" in band dynamics...ANY band. If anyone ever admits to it, I'll accuse them of lying, and be correct.

George Harrison recorded on Walk a Thin Line??

On Mick's The Visitor version, not Fleetwood Mac's.

Also love Tusk, Walk a Thin Line and IKINW.

I would have to go with "The Ledge." I love the quirky, funky beat. Followed closely by "Walk a Thin Line."

I would love it, if Lindsey would perform in concert a true "deep" cut and do "The Ledge."

Holla! That song is unlike anything else in the Mac catalogue. It's so much fun too, like country, punk, rock, Stevie, Lindsey, all combined. I think the Tusk Tour rehearsal video footage, the only live version I've heard, sounds pretty damn good too!
