I've always liked this song. I think it represents one of the best narrative lyric Stevie has written. Maybe it is because we know exactly the story that it was written about. It fuses both the mystical and spiritual which are both common themes in her song but not usually intertwined. It does seem like this song resonates with Stevie on some level...why else would we have three versions of this song? I have to say that I am happy to have Twisted redone than Gold & Braid which is what I thought we were getting when she eluded to a song played in concert that was never released (I guess she meant on a solo album).

I absolutely love this version. It's simply beautiful. Though I have always liked the duet version, this newest take carries much more emotional weight. Her vocal, soft yet forceful, is perfect, and the music just propels it all forward to a dynamic conclusion. Just great!

I'm sorry, everyone seems to love it, but I just disagree. I love the lyrics to Twisted, but what really gives it power to me is the duet between Stevie and Lindsey. It's them coming together after years of having nothing to do with one another. I don't see how this is different enough from the version on Enchanted to merit it's inclusion on this album. In fact, I think I prefer the Enchanted version - the instrumentation is far superior - to me this sounds way too muddy.

Definitely resonates.
When I was asked to do a song for the movie “TWISTER,” I had my friend Rebecca read the script. She then gave me the ‘Reader’s Digest’ condensed version so I could decided whether to do it or not. As she explained it to me, I realized this really was… MY… story. It was about people who had extreme jobs… like chasing tornadoes, or being in a rock band. Anyway… I really hand-crafted this song for the movie. Unfortunately, if you saw the movie, you missed the song… and you certainly missed my message. So I decided to give you the original demo, recorded March 10, 1966 on a 4-track Tascam by my assistant extraordinaire, Karen Johnston. I was living in a beach house overlooking Sunset Boulevard and the Pacific Coast Highway, and beyond that, always… the ocean. When I decided to put this in the ‘box set’, I called Jesse V. (just last week), and he put some ‘vibe’ mandolin on it.
I love this song.
I hope this time… you will understand it.

Forget Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. This amazing new version is straight-up mid 60s. Obviously inspired by The Byrds, and that ilk. Dark & dirge-y, perfectly suited to Stevies' original demo & reflective moody meditation about the demons of love.
This version make Lindseys' pop-y arrangement for that soundtrack version seem uninspired and impassive. To me, this new arrangement is the definitive "Twisted" presentation. Perfect! Bravo!

I prefer the musical arrangements on this version. Not loving the lazy vocal, but she'd have a hard job topping the amazing vocal on the soundtrack version.

I love this song and think it was one of her most creative live arrangements, so was looking forward to seeing what she did with it when she had some proper studio time to dedicate to it.. I'm neither happy nor sad really. I think the first 3 minutes are good and are more rocky like I was hoping she would go for, but the end doesn't build to anything and just dies out. I feel like she could have tried even just one or two higher, stronger vocals to lift the end and give it a bit of a kick like the live versions, even let Sharon or Lori do some higher notes, not just let it fade away.
For me, this song is like the whole album (so far) - it's all sounding like it was done just a little bit too quickly and not given enough time to develop into something special. I almost get the feeling on some vocals that Stevie almost hesitates as if she's going to try a more exciting vocal then chickens out, a bit like she does live these days - the songs don't sound particularly confident to me at least. Still nice to have another version either way I suppose!

I can't complain about her vocals at all and that goes for all songs I heard in full.
At least to my ears she either sounds strong and confident or sings in a softer way, but I really don't hear lazy vocals. Sometimes raw, yes, but I think it fits these "vault" songs.

Which gives me a great idea for her next album. it could contain blue lamp, battle of the dragon, touched by an angel IYEDB etc.

I actually think this arrangement is superior to either that we had previously. I absolutely loathed the Lindsey Buckingham variant that was on the Twister Soundtrack. I love Lindsey, but it was lacking a spark.
Then along came the Enchanted Box Set and we were graced with a solo stevie's take on it. I thought it could not be topped, but then after listening to what WB released yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised and definitely wrong.
This version to me is far more emotive and has this feeling that the other two lacked. I think sometimes people like to complain and critique as if THEY are artists. But they are not. Stevie is an Artist. She wrote the song, so if she wishes to record a million different versions of a song she certainly is entitled and as fans we should be okay with that. If you don't like it, that is fine, but to bash how many times or how many ways a song has been done is just folly. It changes nothing.
What I don't think people are considering is, she didn't have to release this album. She could have just toured with Fleetwood Mac and done nothing and it could have been another 10 years before anything new came out. But she took the time to do this project, so lets all just be happy with that :)
Just my take.

I'm waiting for the piano version. And the pseudo-live orchestral Soundstage version. And maybe a Deep Dish dance mix.
Or not.
I never understood why she didn't just put the version with Lindsey on Enchanted. Maybe she didn't like what he did with it, though his voice and guitar added a lot of interest for me personally.
Also, the now-missing, "I know, you know watching you go is like dying" was one of the hookiest elements it had.
But this is pleasant enough, even though it never really builds up to much.
Odd that this song seems so important to her and yet it's been marginalized yet again (first on a hit-less soundtrack, then as a demo on a box set for mainly diehards, and now as a bonus cut many people won't get).
I think the next version of "Twisted" (praying for a duet with Sheryl Crow!) would make a nice b-side to a remake of "Sweet Girl" available only on limited-edition vinyl.

So many varied opinions: Hate! Like! Love! Indifferent!
That's good thing.
The song seems to (almost) have universal appeal among fans. All three versions have merit, as each one offers a different shade and attitude. It's natural to have a personal preference; there's no reason to negate the other versions.
I enjoy the duet/soundtrack version.
I enjoy the box set demo version.
I enjoy the 24 Karat Gold version.
It's much like Crystal.
I enjoy the Buckingham Nicks version.
I enjoy the Fleetwood Mac version.
I enjoy the solo/soundtrack version.

I love it. It's a beautiful song and this version lets it stand on its own.
The only things I miss are 1) a little more instrumental texture in the chorus, a la the demo mandolin; and 2) a soaring vocal line or two at the end, where Stevie really opens up a la the live 1996 Mixfest version.
As for the bridge -- is it possible Lindsey either wrote the music for that or encouraged her to do so?

Good point. If the soundtrack version and demo/box set version never existed, we wouldn't have anything to compare and judge it against.
The new version shouldn't be seen as inferior; it's just an alternative take, just as it was expected to be! Everyone has their own tastes and preferences; each version has its own validity. I have no preference. Each one was created in its own time/space. I appreciate every iteration of the song.

I fully expected this to be a "throwaway" track. A redundant one at that. The version with Lindsey is just so perfect, that I couldn't imagine Stevie even coming close to topping it.
And while I can't say that she did top it, I do feel that this new recording is every bit as terrific as the original. Stevie's vocal is top-notch (her voice doesn't sound a day older here than it did in 1996), and the very Byrds-esque flavor of the production suits the song beautifully.

I 1000% agree. While I do like this new version, as many have said, so much is missing from it. The "passion and anger", the "watching you go is like dying." And much like "My Heart" (TISL) vs "My Heart" (IYD), the vocal delivery doesn't hold up to the original. On both the originals of Twisted and My Heart, Stevie's vocals soar ... the new versions, eh, she does a fine job but nothing that gives me a chill. Overall a fine version but the duet with Lindsey reigns supreme.
