Help w/ Herb Worthington Photos ?

Hello folks.

My name is Mike. I'm a bookseller in Southern California and we recently acquired a portion of Herb Worthington's photographic effects from his Estate.

Among his things are some amazing photos, a couple of which we'd like some help with. We've posted them below. The photos are watermarked to preserve the commercial viability of the images as was suggested by Ledge admin.

1) The first photo is a 16 x 20 outtake print from the shoot for the 'White Album'. It shows Mick and John in the familiar setup except Mick is not drinking from a glass, he's smiling and looking forward. We haven't been able to find this image anywhere online. Has anyone seen it elsewhere ? We could find no other outtakes for the 'White Album' like we can for 'Rumours' and others.

2) This second photo is an 11 x 14 print of the entire post Buckingham / Nicks FM but what makes this photo interesting amongst the 100's of other FM group shots is this one is stamped on the reverse 'Herbert W. Worthington Photographist Feb 11 1975'. Since Lindsey & Stevie joined the band only 43 days prior (New Years Eve 74'), could this possibly be the earliest photo of the band as we know them today ? I'm attempting to prove myself wrong, but haven't been able to find another photo documented or proved to pre-date this image for these 5 members. Is there anything else about the image (hair, clothes, that suggests this image is later than 2/1975 ? Please think hard about EARLY FM images you've seen in books, online or elsewhere.

And I do believe the second photo is part of the first photoshoot of the then new line-up of the band, that's the only photoshoot where Stevie's hair is still curly. Thanks for the sources on those shots. We couldn't find them anywhere.

I'll post a few more nuggets we were fortunate to get. We're a bit unclear on dates for these, except for the large contact sheet which I think appeared on the 'Rumours' album.

1) A whispy, filtered 'glamour shot' type image of Lindsey and Stevie. (11x 14) Why this was made is beyond me. It has romantic overtones, and doesn't seem likely. Not sure what Herbie was going for here ???

3) A nice 16 x 20 of the group I've seen before, just not sure where. A very nice shot with all in good spirits.

4) A contact sheet from that shot that I've seen a billion times, but don't know where it was taken. It looks like backstage on tour somewhere. It's interesting to see the progression of people coming in and out of the shot. Herbie just stood there and kept shooting. (we're furiously looking for the negatives that made this contact sheet)

That actually appears to be Carol Ann Harris- Lindsey's girlfriend after Stevie. She met Lindsey while the band was recording Rumours, and she appears in liner photos for both Rumours & Tusk. She wrote a book about her time spent around the band several years back. I can't remember if this particular picture is in her book or not.

This is Jenny Boyd Fleetwood, one of Mick's wives. She's Patty Boyd's sister- the British model whose affair with Eric Clapton while dating George Harrison is chronicled in the Derek & The Dominoes song Layla. Jenny Fleetwood also published her own book.

I'm so glad I can help! And I love to see these rare pics!
1) This is not Stevie! It's Lindsey's girlfriend at the time, Carol Ann Harris (they do look alike), so that explains the romantic overtones. Lindsey and Carol dated from 1976 untill 1983 but based on Lindsey's facial hair I would say this photo is from 1976 or 1977.

2) the girl with Mick is his wife at-the-time Jenny Boyd (model and sister of Patti Boyd, famous wife of George Harrison and later Eric Clapton). I think the photo is from 1976 or thereabouts. I have a screencap of this photo (http://goldduststevie.tumblr.com/post/4010809479/mick-fleetwood-jenny-boyd#notes) so it was probably used in some documentary, I can't remember which one, maybe Fleetwood Mac: Behind The Music or The Mick Fleetwood Story?

3) this is from that same photoshoot from February 1975, it is used for the 2004 re-issue of the 1975 album and has since been published in several magazines.

4) indeed some variations of a shot that's been used a million times (2nd row, far left on the contact sheet). It's backstage during the 1976 tour and the tall blonde guy that can bee seen in a couple of the frames is John Courage, their tour manager.

5) yes, these shots ended up on the back of the Rumours album.

If you watch The Making Of Rumours documentary from 1998, Herbert states these particular procession of pictures held the most meaning to him. He felt they captured a candid & unscripted moment of love between the band. These pictures are on the back of the Rumours album.

3) And....THE BEST THING WE'VE SEEN SO FAR....I was literally speechless when I first saw these....ORIGINAL 4 x 5 CHROME SLIDES FROM THE RUMOURS COVER SHOT SESSION!!

We are trying to determine how many shots were taken during this Rumours session. We currently estimate about 20 -22 shots based on known outtakes. If someone has a different notion, please chime in. We have a copy of Caillat's 'Making Rumours' and it doesn't mention how many shots Herbie took in November 76'.... We welcome any educated guesses.... :)


Also, if anyone has any inside knowledge as to the whereabouts of the ACTUAL COVER slide chrome (some might refer to it as a 'negative') please let us know. We suspect either Warner Bros has it or perhaps one of the band members? We haven't yet found it among Worthington's effects and frankly, don't expect to.

The Christine photos are beautiful! I don't recognize them, I don't think they were published anywhere or any other photo where she's wearing that white sweater. Based on her hair I think they were from before Rumours was released, so '75 or '76.

There are a lot of Rumours outtakes floating around, many have been published in some form or showed up at auctions. I have a folder with currently 57 different photos from that shoot: http://i.imgur.com/DsyAmjH.jpg but I've never seen an auction for the actual negatives.

1) This first photo (found stuck to the back of another group photo) is likely the earliest surviving Polaroid of the post Buckingham / Nicks Mac line up. Like the other studio print I have (posted earlier), the group members have the same clothes on, just differently posed (a setup shot ?).

Sorry about the quality of the image, but it's B&W and taken on what was probably a crappy old J66 Polaroid on Type 47 film. It's hand dated on the back '2/12/75' a day off from the '2/11/75' on the other shot, but perhaps Herb dated one image the day it was shot and the other the day he printed it ?? It's only a day.

Both of those February images are as far as we can tell the earliest known FM shots of the group as it is today.

2) that's not Ken Caillat but Benmont Tench, a founding member of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. He played on Stevie's records and toured with her in the 80's. This pic seems to have been taken during the Wild Heart tour, 1983.

4) I don't know at what event this photo was taken but I do know Stevie uses this photo in the Landslide slideshow during her solo concerts, you can see the photo at 1:46 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzsf72lYLo0

We have more photos to share before I list them on Ebay (bibliomonster) ....Several candids; some of which I could use some help with. Since Herbie printed these, I'm assuming they were used SOMEWHERE, but if no one has see them elsewhere, that would be interesting.

6) Ok....one I need some help with....Who are these people with Christine ??
The Asian man looks sorta familiar, but the woman I can't place. Also NOTICE CHRISTINE HOLDING BOTH A CIGARETTE AND A JOINT....The joint the other woman took from the Asian man in a previous shot.

1) this was a photoshoot done at the recording studio while recording the 1975 album, probably in February. A different version was published last year in the Rumours re-issue: http://i.imgur.com/pehxeRR.jpg

2) this is interesting, a very similar photo and no doubt it's from the same shoot, was published (in Life magazine I think? but not sure about that) in april 1976: http://i.imgur.com/0QrbgAg.jpg it can also be found on the Getty Images website: http://www.gettyimages.nl/detail/nieuwsfoto%27s/singing-group-fleetwood-mac-lindsey-buckingham-mick-nieuwsfotos/50376297 but it's attributed to a photographed named Jullian Wasser, so no idea how it became part of Herbie's estate?

3) never seen this block puzzle concept before but the photos seem to be from that first February '75 photoshoot.

4) yes with Stevie's parents in 1976, very cute photo.

6) I have no idea who those people are I don't think I've ever seen them in other photos, but I'm fairly sure the photos were taken backstage at the Day On The Green festival in Oakland, CA on april 25, 1976 because Christine is wearing the exact same outfit: http://i.imgur.com/WFmJZTA.jpg

Although I'd still like to know who some of these folks are, it does help for instance to know that Christine is likely at the April 25th show of the 76's 'Day on the Green' Festival when she's smokin that joint :D

Sorry to comment on such an old thread but I couldn't find this anywhere else. Sanne2, do you happen to have higher quality scans of the white album cover outtakes? That's my favorite cover and I would love to get a better look at those outtakes. They don't seem to be anywhere else online. Thanks for all of your contributions!

Thanks, but the guy smoking the joint with Christine is not Carmine Appice. The man pictured is most certainly of Asian ancestry and Appice in all the available photos has a very different nose.

Yeah....that's Cris Morris who was the Plant's asst. engineer and along with Nina Urban ran things there with his wife Wendy (who appears in another photo we had with her). His photo appears on p. 26 of 'Making Rumours'.

The Christine photos are beautiful! I don't recognize them, I don't think they were published anywhere or any other photo where she's wearing that white sweater. Based on her hair I think they were from before Rumours was released, so '75 or '76.

There are a lot of Rumours outtakes floating around, many have been published in some form or showed up at auctions. I have a folder with currently 57 different photos from that shoot: http://i.imgur.com/DsyAmjH.jpg but I've never seen an auction for the actual negatives.

Do you have a bigger versions of the 22-52 and on photos? They look really cool.
