Not my favorite track so far, but not horrible either.

PS Since when did Parade get Stevie (or anyone else for that matter) exclusives???? :)

I'm liking this one. I had been so disappointed to find that I was underwhelmed with what we had heard so far, but this one seems to have a more lush sound. Good harmonies, more going on etc.

Yes it seem more polished so it should provide a good balance for the other songs...

For me, this is better than Starshine, The Dealer and Lady. I LOVE IT.

She sounds so classic, even on her double harmonies. God I love this.

Oh wow, I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. This is the only song thus far that has given me chills. It's got that sparse, classic Bella Donna album vibe to it. Guitar driven with spooky backing vocals. It's the first song I've heard so far that has had atmosphere. I was afraid we weren't going to get any witchy, mystical songs on this album, and now the title track has gone and proven me wrong. This is my favorite by a HUGE margin.

O-M-G Becky!!!! This is to die for delicious!!! I frikkin' LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. I am a million times pleased with the first 23 seconds of the song because she stayed true to the demo that I have loved beyond belief since I first heard it in 1994. That opening bass line followed by the piano just thrills me to no end.

HO...LY...CRAP!!!

I AM SPEECHLESS!!!

I had been wary these last few weeks in regards to this track because it's only 4:09 in length. I thought for sure all my favorite lyrics from the various demos would be omitted.

Sure enough, I was right...BUT...I love how simple and beautiful this is!!! And I'm thinking this track, in it's FINAL form, NEEDED to be simple, as all those manic lyrics from the demo (as much as I LOVE them) is really kind of a distraction for casual/non-Stevie fans.

I love love LOVE the atmosphere, as I was also concerned by the lack of mystical, witchy-ness on this record. (Hoping we get more "witchy-ness" with "Twisted" and "Watch Chain")

Can't wait til next Tuesday when we get our downloads...so I can BLAST THIS ONE in my car!!!

Wow! I can't stop listening...

This track really sounds like something lost from the late 1970's!!! ESPECIALLY at the 0:55 mark when the chimes, high keyboard and guitar come in. It's hard to describe but that "sound" just evokes that time period.

John Stewart's "Gold" comes to mind as far as that "seventies California" vibe. Am I making any sense, whatsoever?

Yes you are making total sense! This track totally captures the mystical side of Stevie without being so derivative of her other recordings. It has that 1970's vibe, but still sounds very fresh. I love her vocal on this. Such a fantastic recording!!

This has the most quintessential Stevie sound of any 21st century songs she has recorded from TISL until now. Her voice sounds amazing on this! She sounds young & vibrant.

Here is the dark & mysterious Stevie that I love, and also the classic Stevie Nicks I thought I'd never hear again! Where the heck was this song to promote IYD, or even TISL! This song has ALL the Stevie essential ingredients that were missing from every single she's released since "Rooms On Fire!"

Yes please!!! A proper video, not like the video for 'Lady' even though I can see what they tried to do with that. This song needs to be the main single, not 'Starshine', 'Lady' or 'The Dealer'. They are simply not strong enough to be lead singles. I think that these have been promo singles and maybe '24 Karat Gold' will be the proper lead single. I can only hope!

AGREED!!! Unfortunately, due to FM rehearsals and the tour, I don't think that's going to happen...unless somewhere on off days in between shows in NYC or L.A., she can meet up with Dave & Company to film something quick in about two days.

I agree... this is the Stevie Nicks I fell in love with. I know others love it when Stevie does ballads, ventures into country, etc. But THIS is the type of song that made me become a fan. I was playing it in the car on my way to lunch & back, and am still just totally blown away by it after more than a dozen listens. It makes me grin each & every time. THIS song would actually be played on the radio. I wish it were an official single, but I know that will never happen.

I was starting to wonder if we'd ever hear this side of Stevie again, too. But I guess we have gotten a few 21st century examples of this style song. You Can't Fix This, Illume, Destiny Rules...all are crafted from the same beautiful cloth. I honestly might like this one more, though because of the lyrics. Especially the line where she sings:

"All alone I waited. There was no one out there. In the rain she laid face down. What is this freedom that she wanted?"

You can totally feel the utter devastation she's experiencing. Possibly better than any song she's ever written. She's also using her voice in a manner I haven't heard in about 20 years. She sings some words very softly with beautiful inflection, and strains others for emphasis of heartbreak. I'm so completely smitten with this track!!!

After multiple listens, I can say it's one of her better title tracks. I always expect high standards for a Stevie Nicks title track, and while it's not as good as TISL or WildHeart, it CERTAINLY blows In Your Dreams out of the water. I like my Steve title songs to feel epic. This song feels epic.

"Starshine" has been my go-to song every morning this week -- the first thing I listen to on my iPod, to get my feet moving. Such a great, rollicking track. I hadn't expected to hear "24 Karat Gold" for a few more days, and I certainly didn't expect to love it even more than "Starshine."

That groovy bass-line. The atmospheric production. Those lush background vocals. Stevie's sublime lead vocal. All sheer perfection!

Absolutely. I really love this song, it's just so hypnotic. THAT is the Stevie I fell in love with. I don't think the others are bad per say (I enjoy Starshine) but it seems as though Stevie has gone with jaunty songs or countryish ballads as her pick. The In Your Dreams Album is very jaunty and not really my cup of tea.

I did not like the demo to 24 Karat Gold or Starshine. Infact, I didn't even want them rerecorded for this. I was wrong. I have liked every song so far.

This is excellent. It's classic Stevie Nicks in the best way. Great harmonies, many layers, mystical lyrics and it's classic rock, not pop. It's particularly edgy and I think it's one of her best title songs.

Now, Stevie says her favorite song is Mabel Normand. Well, I particularly hate that demo, so maybe it will end up my favorite on the album. I notice it's in the number 3 spot on the deluxe and regular CDs, so maybe it is the best song on the album. That is a prime spot and she never moved for the deluxe version.

I really like this one. There is one line in there where I want to sing the "where will the kings go" line from Greta after it. It's like an atmospheric mix of Bella Donna and the good half of Street Angel - which is pretty cool.

I love this song.

It occurs to me that the re-done demos that have been released in full have been stylistically placed for various Nicks fan bases. We got "Dealer" for the country-rock Nicks fans, "Lady" for the ones that like her earnest ballads, "Starshine," the bouncy rocker, and now "24 Karat Gold" for the witchy fans.

I've really liked all 4 songs. "Lady" seems to have had the longest legs so far with reaction outside the fan base. If they're planning on Fleetwood Mac playing "24 Karat Gold," that likely means an official single release for that song too.

Nicks has said that "Mabel Normand" is her favorite on the album, and I really liked that snippet. I've thought that "If You Were My Love" and "All The Beautiful Worlds" could be very commercial, so I wonder if "Lady" and "24 Karat Gold" are the first two official singles, with another one or two to come after the album release?

This is lushly produced. The vocal is classic. One of her best in recent years. But I find it so unsatisfying. There is no narrative to the song. It is missing a verse, a story, an actual message. As beautiful as it sounds, it is merely a highly polished fragment. It doesn't go anywhere. It isn't about anything. It starts to be, but then it just meanders off into nothingness. This is not a finished song. It reminds me of a beautiful suit with great sleeves and pants. But no jacket. No torso. A bunch of pretty parts with nothing substantial to hang on. What a shame.

For me, this is better than Starshine, The Dealer and Lady. I LOVE IT.

She sounds so classic, even on her double harmonies. God I love this.

I feel exactly the same. I LOVE this song!!!!!! Amazing!

'Hypnotic' is a good word. This is classic mid-to-late 70s Stevie in my opinion. '24 Karat Gold' and 'The Dealer' are my favourites so far, by far.

I completely understand what you've astutely pointed out. The lyrics lack any coherency. But that isn't an uncommon characteristic in some of Stevie's verses or lyrics.

If you can suspend expectations of a traditional lyrical narrative and view it more like an impressionistic painting, it holds more value, and makes more sense. Often Stevie's emphasis is more about a mood/feeling than a specific knowledge or fact. A lot of visual art has no discernible meaning, yet evokes mixed feelings and personal interpretation.

Her inspiration may come from a specific experience/observation, but often incorporates various references. Stevie has touched on this, explaining how the meanings (I'm paraphrasing) are fluid, and can change to suit different situations.

of course it is about something..it is a prophetic song about Christine leaving and then returning to Fleetwood Mac!Not sure how anyone could miss that :lol:

I think it has plenty of meaning and substance. Not every song has to make linear sense (to me anyway) for it to have depth. The repetition of the "chain of chains" lyric throughout the song has a mystical connotation to me that makes the song far more personally significant than an obvious story about Lindsey or Joe.

It seems intentionally abstract, which doesn't devalue it at all. The world of visual art would be pretty boring if everyone was a realist.

The subtle references to key Fleetwood Mac songs ('Chains' and 'Dreams' in the lyrics, 'Sara' in the melody) probably help to give the song that classic feel. It's maybe an intentional choice on Dave's part in terms of the production, as to my ears there's a real sense of Stevie taking stock of her experience in the band in this song in the lyrics. 'What is this freedom that she wanted? What kind of freedom, what kind of game?' It's probably more pointed considering she wrote it around the time of 'Bella Donna' when the joy of being in Fleetwood Mac had momentarily lapsed.

I think I've listened to this one more than "Lady", "Dealer" and "Starshine" combined! This is just PURE...CLASSIC...STEVIE NICKS!!! Sounds so timeless, as if this version was recorded a long time ago, buried and rediscovered.

Anyone else hear the final seconds of the song (after the last note and after the reverb of the electric guitar) when it's just an acoustic guitar plucking notes? Sounds a bit like "Rhiannon" to me. Am I crazy?

That's why Lindsey is so great with her songs. I feel she is in the (my demos were perfect the way they were) faze. She didn't like what he did to her SYW songs and seems to have forgotten all the great stuff he's done with the others. Big mistake. None of these songs have really grabbed me. In Your dreams was different as they kinda co wrote the songs together and Dave had more of an input.

I think it was more along the lines of "I have three months to record and release a record, specifically two weeks here in nashville to record the bulk....before lawyers and notices start flying everywhere because I have not met my contractual obligation" I don't think they had time to re-write a whole lot of anything, my guess would be.

A lot of her songs are fragments, but to me this song is the most Fleetwood Mac sounding song she has ever done in her solo career. It works. Probably my favorite song since the early 1980s. I hate the demo.

As far as IYDs, I really like the album, but it felt like there a piece of glass between me and a lot of the album because it was so polished. I prefer the production on this album. I do think the songs were stronger in a lot of ways, but they weren't as "Stevie Nicks" as these. And it's this type of music that made her famous.

I posted before that this song for me is just OK. I listened to it again and while I really like the guitar and the sound of the song and Stevie's voice, the melody for me is very monotone and uninteresting and that's why I don't like it so much, though it isn't bad. And I remember thinking the same thing about Bombay Sapphires, which is one of my favorites now, so maybe I"ll come around to it.

I just see them as words she often overuses in songs; no master plan or elaborate, in-depth reference to Fleetwood Mac or anything else. But everyone has their own perceptual and personal way of understanding what's going on in Stevie's head.

I ended up buying "The Dealer" from iTunes because I forgot about the free Warner Bros single from preorder. So I ended up wasting money (not that the track was a waste).

As much as I want to have 24KG (the song) NOW, I shall patiently wait for that Warners email which will hopefully go out to us in about 45 mins at midnight like "Starshine".

Waiting for "Lady" was a lesson in patience, as I waited ALL DAY and didn't get my email til 11pm. It was rather annoying.
