I like the setting, but the angles are a bit repetitive and some close-ups would've been great, but then there's her lip-synching. :D
Love the song though.

For some reason it's still not on youtube but I have seen it and I don't think it's that great. It's as though they had two hours to make the video and there are no effects or anything. Hopefully there'll be a second video that doesn't involve Stevie just standing there and making the odd gestures.

of course the MAID bit comes in...again! LOL. I love how she starts singing and then doesn't seem to want to stop. I also find it intriguing how she would hum or sing (or whistle) the song throughout the years. I know Stevie's demos have stayed with me and probably a lot of fans through the years but it never dawned on me that they would be a part of Stevie's life as well. Just because she never recorded them officially doesn't mean she forgot about them. Good stuff!

there are things I would change but it's decent. I wish she would have moved around that enormous stage at least a little bit. Looks like her feet were glued to that spot.

And I guarantee that's the top she's gonna be wearing on the FM tour.

Well....

One question.....Was it directed by a child? Like a 10 year old? I have seen 1st year NYU film school students do a better job than this crap.

One more question.... Who allowed this to happen? Obviously at the end of the day Stevie approved this, but I can't help but wonder why, in the last few years, does she continue to make one bad decision after another? She truly is becoming a train wreck.

I am so incredibly disappointed in her. She is the only artist i have ever really connected with. Yet, I grow more dis-enchanted by her every year. I can't figure out if it is because she has changed so much or I have changed or both.

It's just sad to watch. Even the way she looks has gotten "odd". For example, there is something wrong with her upper lip the past few years, it looks like she has had one too many Botox treatments and can't really move the upper lip. Her face recently has started to have that "octolady" look to it, the plastic surgeon is pulling too much, she is gonna end up with that " joker smile" if she keeps having work done by those LA surgeons......this last video broke whatever shred I was holding on to....

I am walking away now. After 35 years I can not keep watching this. I am done. Goodbye.

" I am dancing away from her now..."

it's funny, over the weekend I watched a movie Keanu Reeves made about the changes in the film industry and the move to digital cameras and how as they've gotten smaller and smaller they've allowed filmmakers a lot more flexibility in shooting movies. And they had several big name directors who made entire films-- films that won awards at Sundance and the like--COMPLETELY using handheld, consumer video cameras. And they were amazing. And of course, very inexpensive to shoot movies this way so film students can now make very intricate movies with their little video cameras. THey showed some of the films the students made and they were really, really impressive. So cost cannot be an excuse for bad videos anymore. I don't know if this one is bad, but it *is* incredibly dull. Maybe if the song were like 2 minutes, but it's FIVE FULL MINUTES of basically the same shot.

I thought this was a great video for the song. Stevie is in a goregous theatre belting her heart out. I think I remember some interview before her stating she doesn't really visualize stories for videos. IYD had some of the best videos I feel from Stevie. So, I say go Dave.

Also maybe this will not be the only video we see from 24 Karat. I remember they showed different pictures from the theatre on instagram and some really nice mirrors.

And is "Lady" the official single from the album to be released to radio?

I'm glad we got this video. I think Stevie looks great! The setting looks wonderful. However, i'm not very impressed. It all seems rushed. I wish she would have moved around the stage a lot more. I wish she would not have acted out the words with those hand gestures, but that seems to be her shtick as of late so...

I also wish Dave would just take on the role of producer and leave it at that. But of course he just absolutely had to get his ego centric self somewhere in that video.

Sorry y'all! Not impressed with this one.

Still adore the song though! And I love the interview clip with her talking about the songs background. :)

no need for millions of dollars and dancers and smoke… that was my point. with little handheld cameras that anyone can buy you can make really great quality video….it just comes down to the creativity of whoever is holding the camera.

At her age and stage in her career she doesn't need dancers and gimmicks, but a few creative camera angles and some closeups are not asking much.

just a simple walk from one side of the stage to other would have added some interest. They could have interwoven it with the shot of her standing in the same spot...but I'm still happy with it and happy we got a video. And I think the lack of a close up actually works with the song. It adds a little mystery.

Great concept. Bad execution.

Stevie singing "Lady" all alone in a beautiful empty theatre is pretty close to perfect in my mind when I think of this song. But I have to say, I had a hard time connecting with this video.

This song is just gorgeous, and her delivery is heart-wrenching, honest, and well, amazing. And I kept waiting & wanting a heartfelt close-up to take it to the next level of visual performance that the song begs for. Then right when you think they were going in for the killer shot, it would pan away to her left side, or a view from behind the curtain. It's not horrible, but it could've been great. At least she taking chances. For her to get up on stage with no props or added special effect imagery in post production is brave and very different for her. I applaud that risk. It's an amazing time to be a Stevie Nicks fan these last 3 years.

So whatever my expectations or critique may be, this video does not detract one bit from this amazing, newly recorded version of "Lady." The new video is a classy setting for this stripped-down, introspective, and ultimatley universal song.:xoxo:

I think the video was stylistic - stripped down/simple, just like the song.

I agree that the angles were repetitive and that could have been fixed. I would have preferred her sitting in that empty stadium singing but also actually playing the piano. It's a video - they could have done that even if she'd be uncomfortable actually performing that way.

Loved the red velvet drape and the longer dress. The longer dress would not have worked as well sitting at the piano. But I think her sitting and playing the piano would have made this much better.

I don't know what to think of the video. Long and a bit too intensely focused on Stevie herself, who seems lost as to what to do standing there. I think there could have been a lot more drama in the video, with some lighting and angles. And those hand gestures, oh dear. The video is a bit like the song itself. Kind of gives you the feeling you have walked in on somebody posing in front of a mirror admiring herself.

I agree with all of your thoughts.

Most of her videos are hack jobs. On Dave's cheaper than free videos for In Your Dreams there was some nice imagery, but if you blinked you missed it. Every frame of each scene was at the steady pace of an assault rifle.

The most admirable thing about this video is that the austere concept is entirely appropriate for the song's character. In the hands of a true fan - a professional producer with tasteful production skills, creativity, and insight, the execution of this video would have been taken to higher level. Still, it's perfect for the way it is.

Instead of a silly contest to design a shawl, a contest which encouraged up and coming film producers to submit ideas and videos for Stevie would be a good thing.

Jesus Christ... Chill. You're certainly entitled to your opinion but mine is quite different. I don't really care how she looks; hell, she's pushing 70. I'm grateful that she is making music and still willing to put herself and her music out there. She didn't have to make a video, she doesn't even need to make live appearances to earn her keep, and she certainly could rest on her laurels and collect royalties from her past successes. I hope when I'm her age I look as good as her but more importantly I hope I still have the urge to express myself as she obviously does. And if time and age have taught me anything it's that the older I get the more I'll be doing whatever it is I choose to primarily for myself, not to please everybody out there. I say kudos to you, Stevie!

This video is good. Could be better....could be worse. It does seem like they had a limited amount of time to make it.
I think Stevie should've went all out glam and wore a big opera gown. Maybe put her hair up. I like the dress she's wearing ... except for that corset-that-isn't-a-corset top thing.

Maybe the reason why the left side of her face is shown more is because it's her 'good side'? Even though I think she doesn't have a bad side.
Yeah I agree with the hand gestures. It's always been her thing (which I use to like) but it seems like they're more literal, slow and she does them way too often these days. It reminds me of the Secret Love video.
Now that I've watched the video again, I can see that she's standing on a box. Probably to get a better shot of her on stage.

One thing I find slightly creepy is the peeking behind the curtain first person view.
Maybe it's Mick from the Harmonica Killer.

Hmmmmm......Well, it's called the aging process and it's happening to all of us. Fortunately, most of us don't have to endure it in the public eye. I'm certainly not the pretty, fresh looking pop tart I was even 10 years ago. While I can certainly understand some of your sentiment (I'm not happy with Stevie doing cheesy shows like "The Voice"), this is a little harsh.

I can accept the first part of the comments as one's constructive, yet extreme criticism, but the whole aging and looks thing I think is telling of something else. I think this guy or gal either has a hell of a lot going on in his or her life, or he/she is really pissed at some people on this board or both...and is fed up (resulting in the looks dig and knew that would piss people off). Anyway, I'm not taking the post at face value, but I wish him or her the very best! As opposed to other responding comments that make him sound like some kind of trader (gee can't believe why he would be pissed at people on this board), I don't care if that's what he/she wants to do. Go forward my friend...I'm sure there is life out there outside of Stevie and FM fandom. Have a blessed life.:D

Love the song, but I don't love the video. They wanted to go simple. OK, just have her sitting on that wonderful stage, in that beautiful theatre playing the crap out of that song on piano. She's played Rhiannon several times publicly on piano and could most certainly have pulled this one off. I love Stevie to the end but like some others I think this was a missed opportunity. Don't know if it's because they had little time to record the album and then do a video and well maybe she didn't want to spend a fortune on a video. Who knows but it just doesn't seem to work.

She's standing on a box that is hidden under her skirt. No one finds that amusing?

Stevie is not standing on a box. Watch the video again and you will see her shoes many times throughout the video. If there was a box, I think we would see a box and not her feet on the hardwood floor and her taking a step here and there.
Love this simple video btw.

Since Fleetwood Mac is in rehearsals and the tour starts in just a few short weeks (and lasts til the end of the year), do you think they'll find time within her busy schedule to film more videos for 24KG? Or do you think that this might be the only video we get?

Jeez! You do realise she is 66 years old right? i mean what do you expect? If you actually take a look at the video its in the simplicity it is beautiful. It represents the way she feels then and now. Its a little sad and lonely and the uncertainty of her future comes across both from the past and the present. I love it

^^This. I think maybe some more clips of Dave Stewart at the piano and just a little more movement might have given it more cohesion and impact, but I like it just fine as it is too.

I could see how this would be all we'd get, but it would be nice if there was one more video - for either of the two remaining singles. I'm going to hold out hope, at least for a Starshine video. :D

if she spent millions and had dancers, smoke sets etc ..... who going to show it ? it 's a simply beautify shot video that matches the song . it's not over thought or over produced like the album .

I think it's perfect .
I agree that the video is works for the song. It is simple and elegant. The empty theatre chairs reinforce the message in the song that no one is listening. It would have been sweet to see her at the piano for a bit, but overall I'm really liking this.

I've never been a big fan of the videos Dave
has done for Stevie.
They look really dated and the editing is amateurish.
But as someone else said - she's 66 and feels comfortable

Great song but she looks unnecessarily wooden in this

" I am dancing away from her now..."

Well okay you could do that, or you could try to appreciate what she has given us. Just a suggestion.

Good come back! Agree totally. At least give the album a fair chance, even if you don't like the video. I'm not thrilled about it either but it hasn't quelled my excitement for this record because, ultimately at the end of the day, it's the MUSIC that draws most of us to her!

Unfortunately, this guy (or girl? ~ reebokandlace) has spent a lot of time this year pointing out the NEGATIVE things about Stevie, her age and her career. Case in point...

OMG Stevie looks like she is "special needs" in that photo.

I feel like someone should say to her before she walks out of the house "stevie, really, take a minute to care". I think it just became too much effort to look like a goddess. Also, I am so sick of those stupid aviator glasses. They are horrible and someone needs to tell her she looks "special needs" when she wears them.

You guys keep applauding her as she goes down in flames. I love people who defend an empty space. She hasn't gone triple platinum in how long? Keep defending her poor choices...go on, defend it....I love who Stevie used to be...not who she has become. I blame Karen.

Is stevie having laundry issues? Or has she become the crazy old lady who wears the same shirt everyday? Or does she have 10 of the same shirt and is going through a " I wanna wear the exact same thing everyday" stage?

Stevie is 66 years old, NOT the 27-35 year old skinny, fashionable, velvety high ranged voiced siren that you (as well as all of us) loved 30+ years ago. Perhaps, reebokandlace, when you reach her age and have culled a huge legendary career with icon status, you might understand that she can do whatever the hell she wants to do, make any decision she wants to make and not care what people think. This is HER LIFE, not yours. This is HER PROJECT, not yours. If you don't like it, then that fine, and you're certainly welcome to your own opinion. Unfortunately your opinions aren't valid when you are clearly taking pleasure out of making fun of the wardrobe of a 66 year old senior citizen, and compare her to a "special needs" individual. As someone who has three special needs family members, those comments offend me to no end, and you should be ashamed!!!

As you say, you are a fan of the "Stevie who used to be" and not what she has become. I can only hope that when you reach your late 60's, that some sort of wisdom will start coating your brain matter and the childish attitude equaling your "fear of change" will slowly dissipate.

But for right now, good luck on your life's journey! Meanwhile, the rest of us will all continue to enjoy this wonderful woman/singer/songwriter/poet/entertainer throughout all the changes, the downsizing, and the growing wisdom with age...ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK...at 95 years old, spinning on stage with an electric wheelchair! :D

Jesus.....

Okay, I'd like to start by saying I really, really like this song. I like that it's so stripped down and the raw vocals here work a ton better with this track than they do with The Dealer which I was pretty let down by and still am.

Also when music videos and Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks are concerned, I don't expect Avatar let alone cheap popcorn flick flash and style but holy cow, this video is cheap and BORING. It was almost a chore watching it and it felt like the director was more inclined to get the theater in the shots more so than Stevie herself, I kept seeing her slide over to the sides of the frame and was thinking "what the hell?"

Her last batch of videos were works of art compared to this. I know Stevie can do a lot better than this production wise, we saw it with the videos for In Your Dreams, even Every Day didn't suck as bad as this. Oh well, at least I know the album is still coming but this was such a bummer.

Oh the plus, she looks fantastic for her age in the video though so kudos to that.

Okay is it just me or does she look god awful in this interview. That eye make up is doing her no favors at all. And her eyes look red and glassy. I saw her in an interview video with Mick and Lindsey earlier this year, and her eyes had the exact same make up and I remember thinking how much it looked terrible. On the other hand after reading all the comments about the actual video of Lady, and I did go into it thinking I ain't gonna like this, I actually didn't think it was that bad at all.
The song itself, not being one of my favorites anyway, is kind of growing on me with her older voice.

I think the video is flattering of Stevie, including her outfit - she looks elegant. And yes I agree there's no box, you can see the shoes. I think some people need to try to see the beauty in the aging process. No one is able to look the same as they did in their 20's/30's at the age of 66. That video was good. I liked the FWIW video as well. When she's in the desert with the wind blowing. It's totally her element!
But this video is good none the less. It goes along with the song.

The eyeshadow color in the crease is too dark these days. She should wear a medium brown in it instead of dark brown/black. I do understand that she does this so people can see her from far away on stage but it looks too sharp.
Lighter colors bring in more light and make a person appear more youthful. Too many dark colors can make a person appear older even when they're not.
Stevie can do whatever she wants. I just want her to look her best. :)

It wasn't just anybody. It was Keith Olsen. I don't think Lindsey would go along with orgies. According to what Stevie has said over the years, and Carol Ann (taken with a grain of salt), Lindsey tended to get jealous and didn't like his women being around other men too much. I doubt Stevie would go along with it either.
Of course you may be kidding. In which case; ignore what I just typed.

I watched the video and you're right, there's no box. She must have been wearing her super high platforms though.
And I assume she didn't move that much so she could stay in the shot. Perfectly logical. Though I would have liked to see her move across the stage more.

there are things I would change but it's decent. I wish she would have moved around that enormous stage at least a little bit. Looks like her feet were glued to that spot.

I don't know if this one is bad, but it *is* incredibly dull. Maybe if the song were like 2 minutes, but it's FIVE FULL MINUTES of basically the same shot.

Every time I felt like we were getting somewhere or I was starting to connect to it the angle would change. The song is so great but this video isn't doing it much justice. In the end I think time constraints may have hampered this. We've gotten so many phenomenal videos from her that the bar is set pretty high.

^^^ This, right here. You're so right! I think they only had a day to shoot it. It can sometimes take an hour or two to set up different camera shots, which could have taken up most of the day depending on how many cameras they had available.

The bar HAS been set pretty high in the past, so that's maybe why it seems this video is kind of lame. She's gorgeous, though! And I'm still loving this song! :)

This is well stated and I agree with the defense. Most of my complaints are related to bad management who don't know how to make the best decisions for Stevie at this point in her career. Lord knows, I can be critical of some of Stevie's management's business decisions regarding promotion, but these people are hitting below the belt. They obviously have no idea how the aging process can change a person. Insulting Stevie's face, her makeup and wardrobe is somewhat hurtful. I would like to see what these people will do when THEIR skin begins to show signs of age. Honey, we ARE ALL RIDING on the slow train to losing our youth and beauty, SO BE KIND !! This video sucks. I remember when she used to try. Different clothes, different hair. Just not feeling it here. Stevie is one of the most beautiful women in the world and the director couldn't be bothered to get a close-up?! It just ain't right. Missed opportunity for sure.

I totally agree, after watching her commentary regarding the video & that it was about her & Lindsey moving to LA, trying to make it in the music industry---you'd think she would have had that as the theme of the video. A young couple--they move to L.A. & try to make it in the music industry. That would have been cool and then they could have went to clips of Stevie singing in a nightclub in the present with all her fans around---showing that her dreams came true. Would have been much more interesting. Nice song, pretty theater but boring video.

I like the video. It's spare and simple, like the song.

I think the song is great, and I'm really glad it's getting great press (#5 on Must List in EW), but I would agree with some that the song is about 1 verse too long.

So the one question I have, which I wish she would have addressed in the interview about the song, is why didn't it make Buckingham Nicks? Or any of the solo albums? I can see why it would have been out-competed on most of the Fleetwood Mac albums, but why didn't it make Tango - it's better than "When I See You Again" and "Welcome to the Room...Sara". I guess maybe they just didn't think to include it?

Great idea. With a little tweaking, and a creative producer, the video could be much better. But it serves its purpose, without a big investment of time and money. It was done quickly, much like album itself. Ultimately, the music itself is more of a priority than a promo video.

I sorta feel that for the amount of time she doesn't have to work on stuff like this, that we're lucky we're getting videos for any "vault" songs.

Also, how many of you would have believed anyone a year ago who said the next Stevie Nicks video was Knocking On Doors?

Finally, I'll reiterate that I generally like it. I like how tall she looks, I like the big panoramic theatre shots, and I like the clips of Dave Stewart at the piano.

I actually actively dislike this video. Not because it's "boring" or "bad" (let's face it, most of Stevie's videos are both of those things) but because for me it really dramatically reduces the impact of the song. This sort of song relies on you feeling it with Stevie as she's singing, and if you listen to it while watching her "perform" the song in this video, with its rather silly choreography and no indication that she is connecting with the words of the song in any way, you are completely robbed of that. The whole thing just comes off like seeing an 8 year old performing in a school musical who has no concept of what they're actually singing about. She's not feeling anything at all in this video and it totally takes the heart out of the entire song when you watch it.

E for effort, Dave. But next time have footage of her truly singing, or take the video in another direction entirely with no pretend performance.

I feel this way about the lyric video, that it greatly reduces the impact of the song. I like The Dealer lyric video and feel that it adds to the song, but for me the Lady lyric video does the opposite. The song itself it just so beautiful to listen to, any video is going to be a distraction from that sound. It's going to be one of those songs that I just want to listen to, with no visuals. I personally feel this theatre video is a huge improvement on the lyric video.

I really didn't have a problem with the lyric video at all. To me it more or less fit the mood of the song and left a lot to the imagination. Seeing dark lyrics like "the sun keeps throwing out the light from the clouds, but there's no light in here" sung by a woman swaying side to side and then patting her belly is a different thing entirely.

I can see what you mean, but I don't find those lyrics, or the song, to be particularly dark. Stevie has her fair share of dark songs, but to me, this isn't one of them. There is "no light in here" at that moment, but you have no idea about the future "you don't need to see" - as in stop worrying about the future and stop imagining it will be the same, it will be ok. If that makes any sense...

I find it to be a soothing and hopeful song. I love the image of the "light from the clouds" reminding us there is light, even when things seem dark.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be argumentative ;) I just love this song, and interested in interpretations of it.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned...I think the empty theatre setting is very symbolic of the song's message...At that point in her career she and Lindsey had no audience to speak of, so they kind of were playing and singing to nobody. Just a thought. I'm starting to enjoy this ultra simplistic video more and more.

Yes she appears sort of lost for things to do standing there. Patting the belly, knocking on air doors, trying not to flub the lip synching.

Generally speaking I agree. But how much traction can a video Stevie Nicks makes get? What sites would the masses tap in to, to get exposure to this video and hear her new song? Actually any video she makes these days may detract from the appeal of the song itself. Just by reading some of the comments made by the diehard fans here, I'm sure the criticism would be much harsher from the casual viewer.

If it was a really well-constructed and interesting video, probably quite a lot. Such a video could get a lot of people talking. And that's obviously what they thought they made. Creators of content aren't always the best judges of these things, but you can't blame them for trying. And it's not like they poured weeks of time and thousands of dollars into this. Why not go for it?

Great point !!!!! A big microphone stand with long, colorful, flowing, dancing, cascading ribbons and sassy little trinkets is like a security blanket for Stevie. She seldom walks onstage without it.

Honestly, I think casual fans would just be excited about it. And people who don't care one way or the other for her will just continue not caring one way or the other. Stevie herself said it, "The people, they love her, and still they're the most cruel." It's really the biggest fans who are her harshest critics. I guess because we want the best for her, and we expect more from her because we know she's capable of giving it.

well I kind of think that the Video has a meaning: that she's singing to an empty theatre, which is the way she sees her and Lindseys career panning out.
That she'll be singing to no-one and knocking on doors forever......

I think because the video is unlisted, and only being watched by people who are actively going there via links on pretty specific websites, the comments are skewed somewhat. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve nice things to be said about her, but I don't think it's remotely representative of "youtube" as a whole.

I'm more used to the video now. It's still a baffling set of bad choices (centre a music video entirely around the a lip sync performance by a self-confessed awful lipsyncer?) but I'm just used to it now. ;) I do hope we get some live clips of her just wailing on a piano at some point, though.

For real, seriously.Think about it - what else would Dave really be doing now if it wasn't for Stevie's In Your Dreams,24 Karat and her videos? He's not exactly an "out there in the world"artist. It seems he is regaining his place in the music world by using Stevie as a stepping stone and taking it "for what it's worth".No wonder he seems to be so compliant with her -he doesn't want to mess up a good thing and he acts as though he's walking on egg shells - as she has said that he has no ego and the movie and making the movie was the best year of her life - he's cashing in on her and he is making a comeback IMO. Again IMO,his use of the internet for product promotion has been the only good he has done her:sorry::shrug:

You are exactly right there! God bless Dave Stewart for finally being the producer that gets Stevie to release albums more than once every 10 years. "In Your Dreams" was the best Stevie Nicks solo album since "Bella Donna", and Dave can take a lot of credit for that.

of course the MAID bit comes in...again! Good stuff!

On August 25 singer Stevie Nicks debuts her new song ‘Lady’ and that song is now a viral hit on YouTube. The track, the second from her new album 24 Karat Gold: Songs form the Vault, has received more than 119,000 views on YouTube. The new single has already racked up more than 1,220 upvotes from fans eager to hear more from the famed Fleetwood Mac singer.

24 Karat Gold will debut on October 7, 2014, and if this first song is any indication, Nicks is on her way to another hit record. The album unearths old demos and several unreleased tracks from Nicks’ personal collection. ‘Lady’ follows the more mid-tempo track titled, ‘The Dealer.’

If ‘Lady’ seems familiar, that’s because it is actually an updated version of the track ‘Knockin’ On Doors.’ The original track was created by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. In the song Nicks sings about growing older, while questioning her fate. At one point she laments, “I know that things gotta change/But how to change them, isn’t clear.”

The album will be released by Warner Bros. with a limited-edition double LP dropping on September 29.

In a public statement about 24 Karat Gold Steve Nicks writes, “Each song is a lifetime. Each song has a soul. Each song has a purpose. Each song is a love story. They represent my life behind the scenes, the secrets, the broken hearts, the broken hearted and the survivors. These songs are the memories – the 24 karat gold rings in the blue box. These songs are for you.”

Take a listen to ‘Lady’ and then let us know if you are excited for her new album to drop.

After one listen I have to admit that Nicks’ bewitching voice is once again impossible to ignore.

The new Stevie Nicks album was produced by Dave Stewart, Waddy Wachtel and Nicks. The trio produced the tracks for the album at locations in Nashville and Los Angeles. Nicks’ last release was the 2011 album, In Your Dreams.
