I just thought that now with Stevie having a new album coming in just over a months time, I would discuss her album sales here in the UK.

I know there have been many threads regarding US sales and I'm sure most of you guys know about all of that anyway, but I've noticed that her UK sales are rarely mentioned.

These are the albums that have been certified. Her last certification occurred in 1991 so I bet there are a few new ones that are needed:

The Wild Heart - >60,000 - Silver
Rock a Little - >100,000 - Gold
The Other Side of the Mirror - >190,000* - Gold *Found this out from a year-end list.
Timespace - >100,000 - Gold

That's all that has been certified. I also found from a source published near the time of the release of In Your Dreams that Trouble in Shangri-La sold 22,847 copies up until that point which was June 2011.

I also suspect (though I am guessing) that In Your Dreams has sold over 30,000 copies and could even be close to a Silver certification.

Crystal Visions has been selling steadily since its release, though it never charted within the top 100 but has recently spent a while within the top 200. I suspect over the last 7 years that it must be close to 60,000 or even more. I'm pretty sure it needs a certification.

Also, a thing that has puzzled me over the years. All of Stevie's albums of the 80's were certified here apart from Bella Donna which was arguably the second most successful behind The Other Side of the Mirror. It spent 5 weeks in the top 20 very nearly making the top 10 and 16 weeks on the album chart in total. Without a doubt it must have sold more than 60,000 copies. Shouldn't it have sold at least that in its 5 weeks in the top 20? In my opinion, definitely. Also, Rock a Little supposedly sold over 100,000 copies here even though it only ever reached #30 and spent 15 weeks within the top 75.

Unless hardly anyone bought albums in 1981 then I'm sure Bella Donna sold more than 60,000 copies here!

Please share your thoughts on Stevie's UK album career and sales and please help with my theory of the sales of Bella Donna! ;)

The other side of the mirrors sales are very surprising. However, I'm sure it's because of Tango In the Night which is one of the most popular albums in British history.

Yes, it was. I thought nearly 200,000 copies was a lot though. Especially for an album which is nowadays overshadowed by albums such as Bella Donna and The Wild Heart.
The success of Rooms on Fire did play a major part in helping the album make the top 3 though.

I have often wondered what goes on in Britain. Why there is such a difference? Kate Bush was a major star over there. Not so much over here. Same with Kylie Mynoe. Sort of the opposite with Stevie.

Most of the music I listen to is from British singers/bands...and I'm always amazed at the complete lack of recognition or relatively minor success of these acts here in the States. Of course there are exceptions, but they are just that. I guess it works both ways.

Whew we just had a female british invasion - Adele, Duffy, Amy Whinehouse. There were a couple more. I think Simon Cowell had something to with it.

She did tour over in the UK and the postive fall out of Tango and Greatest Hits kept Stevie in the UK mindset, she even appeared on Top of the Pops singing Rooms On Fire. I recall that Stevie also did a lot of press in the UK at the time of OSOTM, this all helped push the album out, it's such a shame that she never repeated this with Timespace and Street Angel, even though I recall that a UK tour was rumoured, but as we know it never happended!!

The release of Crystal Visions in the UK was really bodged, the US release was 27th Mar and the UK release was 24th Sept. You simply cannot delay a release by six months and expect an impact on the local charts, any savvy Stevie fan brought CV on import when it was originally released, when the UK release actualy happended most of her fanbase had already purchased the set.

One further strange thing did happen.... on the 15th Feb 2014, the 2007 compilation "Crystal Visions - The Best of Stevie Nicks" enters the UK album charts at #180 and peaks at #144 on April 12th. - not sure what was going on, maybe a price promotion on iTunes/Amazon pushed sales.

Excellent thread btw - always interested in Stevie sales in the UK, thanks

Yes, that's what I was relating to when I said it has been selling steadily since its release here. It spent a while within the top 200 earlier this year and might still be there, I don't know. It must have sold at least 5,000 in the last couple of months.

I figure FM should do good over in UK since half of band and its founding member were born there.

Some artists from the states do great over in Europe and do zilch here in the states.

Sorry to bring this up guys . David Hasselhoff of Baywatch and Knightrider did great in Germany years ago. Here he did zilch .

I love Adele's music .She's got a beautiful voice.I have not heard from her lately.I rather see her on the current charts then some of these other artists. She can sing.

I'm not familiar with Duffy's music .Also I never got into Amy Whinehouse.s music but It was to bad we've lost her at that young age.

To promote the music .Radio airplay is part of selling music. I like some info on radio air play of Stevie's from abroad.Radio here in the states played the cheese out of BD tunes along with the WH album tunes.Stevie was in her thirties and in her prime of her solo career. Now its so sad that we dont hear a peep out of her on a top40 station with their age discrimination of older artists.

After reading James post .I'm shocked that the sales were low for BD over there.

Bella Donna has never been certified to my knowledge but sales weren't low. Not in comparison to her other albums here anyway.

Does anyone know any sales info on Bella Donna here in the UK or if it was ever 'secretly' certified?

Well that was very interesting. I never knew Red Rocks made an appearance on the chart earlier this year and I don't know how it reached so high? An Amazon promotion maybe?

Anyway, I just remembered that the UK sales for 'In Your Dreams' will be shown when 24 Karat Gold makes a chart appearance here in October. Music Week always shows an artists previous albums sales and chart figures to compare it with their new offering. My guess is that 'In Your Dreams' has sold between 30 to 40 thousand copies here since 2011. I will bare that figure in mind for when we find out in October.
