Wow. A good, timely interview.
I like this;
...she's been in the studio writing with Buckingham too. At one point she was stuck on a lyric, and he suggested 'Just write about sex'.
She sounds very happy and healthy and ready to go!

He's had a history of writing/recording songs about sex since the beginning- Lola My Love, Tusk, Tango In The Night, Great Day... and these are just the overt ones that I can list off the top of my head.
On another note, it's interesting how Christine brought up the fact she wasn't going to wait for her dogs to die before she got back out into the world. We've talked about that very subject here on the Ledge.

Anyone know where her 'London pad' is?
They say it overlooks the Thames, so that narrows it down. I'll imagine her in a flat with a view of the London Eye.
Your mood is like a circus wheel ...

interesting. in the interviews earlier this year, the new mac album was going to come out in spring 2015 the latest, but maybe sooner, if there's clamoring. yet now, nobody knows when that album will come out? things seem to be going backwards. :distress:
looking at the timeline of their recording earlier this year and the timing of the start of the tour it almost looks like the mac planned to push that album out before or right at the start of this fall tour. they were waiting with the tour to start all the way towards the end of sept, rehearsals in aug. maybe that's what the booking on the Today show was really about? maybe that's when the album was tentatively planned to drop?
they gave themselves jan-jun to get the album done which seems like plenty of time, given how fast they seemed to have been working lately. they booked the studio, Christine and Mick booked their flights, and rented a house in LA. they recorded bunch of songs by april or so and started talking about the album and specific songs in various interviews... and then all of the sudden all that stopped and they stated something in the vein of "nah, we never planned to put the album out before the tour oh and btw Stevie was not recording with us and she will only hopefully join the recording after this tour. at least we hope. she promised!".
imagine how cool it could have been? they could have been giving out the album copies with tickets like Petty did? all these hunders of thousands of people at each show could all have their new music and many of them would actually get to listen to it!
but now, there's no talk about the new album even for the next spring anymore. Dashut mentioned on his blog that he's thinking there might be an EP with Christine in the spring (he did say it was just a pure speculation on his part). here's that convo from his blog:
Anonymous: Wait, why do you think there will only be a "possible new ep with Christine, which I’m guessing probably will come out sometime next spring" - don't they have at least 12-15 songs recorded? Why only EP? What do you think will happen with the other FM-recorded songs some of which we've been waiting for since 2012?
Hey, I may be wrong about an EP. It’s entirely possible it will be an album. I really have no idea at this point. As soon as I find out & am authorized to tell you, I will. The only reason I said EP is because of time constraints & I know whatever they release will have to be top notch. It takes time to create top art (At least for FM, as I know them) & I hope they take it.

You're right. "there's no word yet on when to expect it" is indeed troubling. Saying it would be finalized some time after the scheduled tour dates would have inspired more confidence and I don't like EP talk at all. "EP" is beginning to be a profane acronym to my ears. The only way I would favor one is if it came out before the tour starts, which it never will.

I was a bit annoyed with the "no idea when to expect the album" bit, but I do think it will be an album. The article says so, the band has said so. I doubt Richard is right on this one. If it were merely an EP I'd be outright disgusted.

Thanks.
I believe that's Albert Bridge in the background which means she must live midway between Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge in the posh London area of Chelsea. I think she must live in the mega-million pound development called Albion Riverside which is right next to Battersea Park. That whole area is notorious as an investment area for Middle Eastern and increasingly Chinese business people and prices have skyrocketed in the last couple of years. A small two bedroom flat probably costs in the region of £5 million. As boltholes for business people most of the properties sit empty for most of the year- Christine's included I'd guess.
Sorry Michele, she wouldn't have a view of the London Eye but she could possibly see Buckingham Palace.

I don't think it was for certain but apparently it was towards the very end of the Tusk tour-
Carol Ann:
To fill the boring hours, the Fleetwood Mac family entertained themselves with 'all in the family sex'. There were so many affairs going on that I couldn't keep track of who was sleeping with whom. Curry was spending long nights 'visiting' Stevie; Sharon Celani, Stevie's wardrobe girl, was ending her relationship with our latest security man, Jet, and beginning a new one with Lindsey's faithful roadie, Ray Lindsey; Christie, the make-up artist, not only had an on-again, off-again 'friendship' with Curry but was falling in love with Greg...
Curry sounds like he was a busy guy. Hmmm- talk about punching above your weight! He must have had a great personality.

It was. And, in fact, was already an in-print item when Steve Clarke wrote about the group in 1984. Stevie has never confirmed this, but "aides" (Clarke's term) close to the group, plus Curry himself, acknowledged the affair.

For Lindsey, on the other hand, it was still part of an ideal weekend in 1997, lol.
"So a good weekend for me would be to get some of my own music done — have some kind of studio breakthrough with something I’ve been working on a couple of years. For a perfect weekend — well, I’ve got a fantastic view from my home, so maybe I’d spread a blanket outside, put out a bottle of wine, cook a couple of steaks, maybe make love on the lawn, get some sun, enjoy some swimming — then go back inside and cut a hit song. There’s a nice balance there I think.”

Christine: I did my last show, got everything shipped out of the house in LA, went to take the last flight to London, and never looked back.
Mick: But I have always find it odd and somewhat worrisome that someone as creative as Chris , was so utterly divorced from music in general.
These quotes simply underline Lindsey's remarks in the past about the fact that she ' basicly burned all her bridges.' I don't want to hear snarky remarks anymore about the ruthlessness of Lindsey's intentions behind those remarks, he was plain and simply right.

I still believe Lindsey was a bit harsh. There's a difference between Mick's quote being concerned about her well being, and Lindsey's quotes about her departure.
I still believe to this day that he was not all that happy about her leaving the way she did. Now in hindsight, I respect his feelings. Still don't think the guy words things quite as diplomatically as Mick does when Mick talks about the issue. But in my opinion there was some frustrated emotions behind Lindsey's quotes.
LB's quotes about Christine now are much more delicate. He still uses the burning bridges quotes, but perhaps he now understands her phobia, her need to get away.. He was constantly saying last spring how the collaboration with her is better than ever. And, that there was something missing in the chemistry even though they had built a certain chemistry with just the four. (I believe deep down inside he always knew this.)
Finally, it really hasn't been brought up in quite a while. So my question is, "if you didn't want to hear about it, why bring it up?" Surely you don't think ledgies with an opinion are going to clam up just because you told us to do so.

I don't think you discourage snarky remarks with snarky remarks of your own.
I wouldn't call Lindsey's comments about Christine "ruthless" but I do think there was an implication in them. He always defined what he meant by "burned her bridges" but he also knew what the term meant colloquially too and yet he insisted upon using it. It implies that she did something that can't be forgiven or forgotten. That she caused hard feelings when she left. I think he repeatedly used the term for mischievous reasons, to infer something that he knew wasn't true but that he slyly wanted to put out there. And put it out he did, dozens and dozens of times.
I mean, John joked that he thought Christine got fired. Lindsey wasn't actually joking, but he wasn't being serious either. He kept saying that Christine burned her bridges as if she couldn't come back, when he knew she could.
Whenever he was pressed, he would explain that she burned them by selling her house, moving to England and cutting off ties, not that she had somehow soured the band on her. But why keep using a phrase that you don't mean the way its commonly used, unless you want to cause confusion?
I still believe to this day that he was not all that happy about her leaving the way she did. Now in hindsight, I respect his feelings.
I agree. He wasn't happy she was gone. He may have missed her less over the years, but I am positive that he missed her quite acutely when he was putting together the SYW album. He was bitter about it. It's no different than when he left in 1987. She said things that were retaliatory about him as well. It wasn't because she didn't miss him, it's because she did. I have always felt that he felt the same way about her. He was sour graping her absence, especially in 2003 and 2004.

^In my opinion, all the sniping back & forth wasn't just silly, it was very hypocritical. Lindsey certainly had a right to mourn the loss of a bandmate, but he really couldn't fault Chris doing what he himself had done. It all just got to be too much for Lindsey back in '87, so he left for a decade and came back a renewed man. Chris did the exact same thing, albeit for a longer period of time. They each dealt with each other's defections the same ways, too- Chris made digs at Lindsey in the press when he left, and Lindsey did the same when Chris left. They both complained about the Mac during their absences, too. All the same, baby. :p

I totally understand you, but obviously, my remark is more blunt than that is is meant. But still, I also believe there was pain felt behind her departure. And frustration maybe. But isn't that a big compliment towards her? I' ve never understood the negatieve reading of his bridgesremarks. But, I guess it all comes down to languagefeel. I simply didn't feel anything negatieve over the years, where a lot of Chrisfans, in my eyes, overreacted. In dutch, the equivalent of burning bridges is leaving something behind without hindsight or empathy with the situation you left behind. I read that in her own quote in this article.

I thought this might help. I wasn't sure of the exact meaning so I looked it up. From TheFreeDictionary:
burn one's bridges (behind one)
1. Lit. to cutoff the way back to where you came from, making it impossible to retreat. The army, which had burned its bridges behind it, couldn't go back. By blowing up the road, the spies had burned their bridges behind them.
2. Fig. to act unpleasantly in a situation that you are leaving, ensuring that you'll never be welcome to return. If you get mad and quit your job, you'll be burning your bridges behind you. No sense burning your bridges. Be polite and leave quietly.
3. Fig. to make decisions that cannot be changed in the future. If you drop out of school now, you'll be burning your bridges behind you. You're too young to burn your bridges that way.

I think Lindsey was worried about how they would go on without Chris initially, but I don't think he was pissed off by any means at her departure… and that by the time SYW rolled around he was actually totally psyched about the new band dynamic without her. Saying that she "burned her bridges" was his way of saying- it's done, she's not coming back and implying that she can't come back (and actually hoping to God she wouldn't.) It does sound blunt, Lindsey's not known for being suave..or subtle. I don't think he's ever had hurt or hard feelings towards Chris. Now that she's back, I think he's making the best of it. I'm sure after all they've been through over the years they've got a bond.. and a musical chemistry for sure.

there's a great shot of the two of them embracing in the studio during Tusk-- Richard Dashut put a link to some outtake video from the Tusk doc up on his Instagram…I haven't seen that footage in forever. Linds and Chris share a nice moment.
Also, Chris does this thing when Stevie is talking about vocals on Angel she says something about "angels in the air" or some such and Chris is sitting there and totally repeats what Stevie said-- much the same way she does on the Bob Welch at the Roxy video where she mimics what he's just said introducing one of his songs "you'll remember this" or whatever. People always took that as her mocking and disliking Bob, but seeing her do the same thing to Stevie honestly it just seems like a Christine thing that she does… someone says some cutesy phrase and she echoes it.

Well, I think she does mock as well, but yeah, there's the Tusk photo shoot too when Lindsey says, "dude's got long arms" and she thinks that's so funny, because it was actually her arm and not Mick's, so she repeats "dude's got long arms."
Not the same thing, but I just think of:
Isn't that weird?
Yeah, that is pretty weird.
For an entire tour, without a hint of irony ....
Um, no: the idea that your name is Lindsay and his last name is Lindsey is not really weird at all, pal.

He said more than that. He made comments about her live stuff etc. I totally got an angry vibe. But that's all in the past. They seem to have really bonded musically and he even said outside of music he has a certain chemistry with her.

Agreed, if it's anything like Hold Me, World Turning, Isn't It Midnight, Think About Me... I'll be happy. (not the same songs.. but the amazing chemistry)

Given The excellence of Lindsey and Christine's respective solo work from the last decade, I have faith Christine's enthusiasm about their collaboration is justified. Hell, even if the work is merely "very good" (in the manner of their solo albums) I'll be thrilled, but I suspect the mutual chemistry between them--a chemistry that has always been there--will buoy good songs to great ones.

there's a great shot of the two of them embracing in the studio during Tusk-- Richard Dashut put a link to some outtake video from the Tusk doc up on his Instagram…I haven't seen that footage in forever.
I really got the sense from the Tusk footage that she was lightly mocking Stevie ("Angels in the background..."), because she felt Stevie was tiresome and excessive at that point.
On the Welch video, I got the sense she was colluding with him about silly things you have to say on stage ("you may remember this one..." is an industry cliche...)
In both cases, I was surprised she spoke at that moment, given the cameras.
On The Dance, when she says "that is pretty weird" and Lindsey laughs afterward, it's clear she is being ironic and they are sharing the joke with everyone. It's a shame they repeated the banter night after night, but hey, when I first saw it, I laughed.

When I first saw it I loved it as well. In fact, I loved it afterwards. FM fans said "isn't that weird" all of the time for about 10 years afterwards. The problem is, I think most people who saw that tour also saw the DVD.

Yes, like she said that she and Stevie had all the hits, so his stuff wouldn't be missed that much on stage anyway, when he left the band, when she left the band, he said that her stuff never sounded that good live anyway. He may very well think that it doesn't, but he wouldn't have said that, if he wasn't upset.

And to drive the point home, he would not say that now. I'm guessing he's really happy she's back. They give a little muse to each other. As a musician, I know how hard it is to depart with someone that you gig with.

I was a bit annoyed with the "no idea when to expect the album" bit, but I do think it will be an album. The article says so, the band has said so. I doubt Richard is right on this one. If it were merely an EP I'd be outright disgusted.
Same here. I don't want another tepid throwaway digital EP that will soon be forgotten. Go big or go home. I'll maintain my belief will we get another amazing album from this line-up. Why can't they get their **** together and understand they need to take advantage of this reunion beyond just a fleeting greatest hits tour? Why is it that everything they do (or attempt to do) gets bogged down with such heavy baggage? Have they not evolved? Apparently, the Big Machine is a Big Drag.

She is still trying to prove to him that she can do it without him. And he is saying to her, "Yeah that's great, fine let's get to work." And it seems she still wants to stamp her feet on the ground and live in the past.

In the context of the group, I don't think she CAN do it without him. She can go off on her own and hire her own producers. But within the band, she can't bring in David Stewart, for example, and say, "He'll be handling my things."
I am angry with her for stalling things. At the same time, it appears that her relationship with Lindsey was, from her perspective, abusive. She is trying to keep the band thing going as long as she could while protecting herself. That means, basically, touring. The prospect of making new music with him scares the crap out of her.

It seems they don't have much respect for each other. If you listen to the B/N album, you can almost touch the chemistry between them. It's so wonderful. They need to resurrect those equations. Each member has their own chemistry with each other.
There is a lot of magic there... it shouldn't be wasted on fear... He's not going to abuse her with Christine around. That's a safe bet.

At this point, she CAN do just that. Let someone else handle her things and Lindsey just has to shrug it off. That can't bother him anymore.
Do I think it will sound like a great cohesive album? No, I don't, but I'd rather have an album like that than an EP or nothing. I'd rather get 2/3 songs that Christine and Lindsey worked on together and 1/3 of stuff that Stevie did with her own people and Christine and Lindsey just sang on than have the group fool around trying to coax a reluctant Stevie into the studio any longer. Whether she feels abused or is throwing a tantrum or just has no chemistry with them any more, I don't care. I'm tired of trying to dissect the problem. Two of them say they've worked together on stuff that sounds good. I want to hear that soon. Just make it happen.

If by "abuse" you (or Stevie) mean he's not going to argue with Stevie about her songs, that's just not true. Christine is not going to get in the way of Lindsey's work on Stevie's songs. She never has.
Lindsey himself has to remove himself from Stevie's songs and be happy that she removes him from them. If he's not on them, then he's not going to get the blame for them later. He can fight creatively for the songs that he and Chris have, but he needs to just not be concerned about Stevie's stuff and hopefully we'll get an album, before they're all dead.

good point. because this stalling and waiting has them heading that way.
if they want to put out an album posthumously that bad, this one doesn't have to be it, yet! we know they have several more albums in them, what they already recorded so far seems to be almost enough for two.

Stevie has to realize that she is in a band. It's a band. And that's it. You don't always get your way in a band. Lindsey knows that, Christine knows it, John knows it, and certainly Mick knows it.
I keep having this weird feeling that Stevie always feels left out of the Christine/Lindsey loop when they make albums. And I thought they would connect more on SYW now that Christine was out of the way. It never happened and those two seem farther apart than they ever have been.
She is still trying to prove to him that she can do it without him. And he is saying to her, "Yeah that's great, fine let's get to work." And it seems she still wants to stamp her feet on the ground and live in the past.
i think there's more to it than that, after reading dickdash blog.
from what he's saying, what happened during their first tour is she broke through as a sort of a sex symbol. and that's what LB was so jealous of (both personally as her bf, and professionally as she was the breakthrough star and he was just the guy shaping those songs). and that's also what she's been trying to fight off her whole career after that - trying to prove that she's been so successful because she's an artist and a songwriter first, and not a gorgeous sexy little doll everybody's lusting after. people saying she'd be nowhere musically without LB, or that she's bigger than the other 2 songwriters in FM just because of her looks and sexy persona, and not because of her music and talent, is something she seems to feel she needs to fight against to this day.

Well, when they do an album, Stevie will be singing on their songs and they will be singing on hers. The songs on the album might not be produced together and that's fine with me. Having them sing together is all we can wish for if we really want an album, without months of delay due to fighting.

I'm with you. I just think someone needs to grow up a bit. They've all proven themselves, no need to keep driving the point home that, "i can do my own songs." We get it. We got it. Now let's move on and make art and stop worrying about getting your face plastered everywhere but your band's new material. There I said it.

Y'all will probably hate me for saying this, but I think you're worrying too much. I think with Chris back in the fold, and given everyone's age, Stevie has realized that FM is going to take a lot more time for the next few years. That's why I think she rushed out this solo album even when she can't tour behind it (which upsets me to no end). She's now back to FM for the tour rehearsals. They'll spend the rest of this year touring. They can finish the album after the first of the year, and then do more touring in 2015, maybe even beyond. If Chris hadn't come back, Stevie could have noodled around with all kinds of projects, knowing FM wouldn't do anything until at least 2016.
And I'm not worried about the sound of the album if someone else produces, or even co-produces, Stevie's songs. The songs will still have Lindsey's guitar, Chris's keys, and the harmonies of all three. It will still sound like Fleetwood Mac. No competent producer could mess that up.

If I remember correctly, both Mick & Christine (and possibly even Lindsey?) said earlier this year that there are both short-term and long-term plans for Fleetwood Mac over the next few years. I agree with your point of view that Stevie is on board for all of this, and that's why she rush-recorded '24 Karat Gold.'
With Christine returning to the band, Stevie's gotten what she's wished for over the past 16 years (even the 'Elle' article mentions that Stevie was "thrilled" when Christine broached the subject of returning) -- but, let's face it, it's also been a total curve-ball. So she's fulfilling her solo commitments now, as swiftly as possible, to dedicate herself to Fleetwood Mac for the next few years.
As for the upcoming album, I think Lindsey will still have a hand producing Stevie's songs, even if Dave Stewart or someone else is co-producing. He co-produced his own songs with Mitchell Froom, he and Christine are co-producing her songs, and I'm willing to bet the credits on Stevie's will be something along the lines of, "produced by [insert name here], Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks."

Thank you MikeInNv and Johnny Stew- some voices of reason.
Jeez, so much conjecture on here at the moment. Too many people coming up with negative ideas based on little more than guess work. There's no point referencing anything Dick Dash says- love his blog but its clear he really isn't close to the band anymore, doesn't really speak to them and has therefore has no idea of their current relationships or the status of any new music.
We know Stevie has a contractural obligation (Christine's words). Does anyone really blame her for spending time on an album she wont be able to properly sell?
Could it just be that when Lindsey says 'Stevie doesn't know how she's going to record her songs yet' (or words to that effect) it is a genuine statement? Perhaps she just wanted to focus on her Songs From The Vault and now that they are done she'll be happy to focus on the band. Perhaps they'll now find studio time at some point and she'll allow Lindsey to do his stuff.
Lets have more positivity people- let Stevie feel the positive vibes!
Though I can't see beyond one final album, I do think there will be one- it'll be a big one and I'm sure it will be a cracker.

As I've said before, I think Stevie was taken completely off guard by Christine's return. I think she was planning on doing a solo record, which would have probably consisted of mostly new material, after the Fleetwood Mac tour. It wouldn't surprise me if she had planned on spending a whole year recording it and a whole year or more touring it.
When Christine came back, all bets were off. However, she was under contract, so she recorded an album of songs most of her diehard fans already have. Since she was contractually obligated to do this record, I believe that her management asked the others to downplay a new Fleetwood Mac album that they are recording while Stevie's new album is being promoted.
As for her relationship with Lindsey, remember that she was the one championing doing a Buckingham Nicks tour last year. Also, she seemed to have a really good time recording with Lindsey for the EP. I think her comments from 2009 through 2012 are not necessarily relevant today. She may have been ambivalent about recording another Fleetwood Mac album, but she never ruled it out. With Christine back, there is absolute certainty that Stevie will be on board.
It would be nice if Fleetwood Mac played a couple of the songs from Stevie's new album to help her promote it, given the circumstances. "Twisted" would be the most obvious choice.

She also had a really good time recording with Lindsey for In Your Dreams. They spent time together that year and Stevie came out of the experience saying they'd turned a corner, later saying in a Q&A that she realised that they didn't have to be 'so Stevie and Lindsey' in the studio.
I would definitely not be opposed to Twisted being played. It's said it was being rehearsed for The Dance, right? Would love to hear that one with Lindsey/FM live, as opposed to just having the 1996/1998 versions.
