So instead of an album cover the contest ends up being a "Design A Shawl For Stevie Nicks" contest...Still pretty cool...

For some reason I think this is actually WAY cooler. :D Stevie is a style icon, and fans are getting a chance to design something she'll wear. The creative possibilities are far more interesting to me than just a simple album cover. Best of all, there is a cash prize. I honestly cringed at the thought of a fan-designed album cover, but I think this is just such a cool idea. I wish I had the talent to come up with something. All the folks who make their own Stevie-inspired outfits to go to Night Of 1000 Stevies and to Stevie/Mac concerts, this is your moment in the sun.

This is totally cool! A couple friends of mine are designers (trying to make it in a very tough industry), so I sent them the info.

Certainly worth a try if you have the skills.

Who knows, if there is more than one suitable choice forthcoming, Stevie might don an array of shawls during the next concert tour. Something to enhance the uniform...

It's kind of funny, because I got the impression that Stevie didn't like that old shawl they had her give Misty on AHS. She probably wishes the wardrobe people had been a little bit more creative.

I wonder if Dave had anything to do with this.

It's a smart marketing/promotional strategy; another unique way to engage Stevie's fans (and designers) and expand her fan base.

Thus far, I'm really pleased with the PR leading up to the album's release. I feel the album is going to come out with a bang.

Think what you will of Dave. But there is no denying that he's been a inspiring and motivating presence in Stevie's life.

I think Dave was the initial spark for having a "design something for Stevie" contest...If you look at the album contest tweet it's the same company (Talent House)...

Without Dave the future for Stevie and FM would no doubt be bleak...

I honestly cringed at the thought of a fan-designed album cover, but I think this is just such a cool idea.

I will never understand why some people have that mindset. This shawl contest isn't any different.

The contest will attract a diversity of people: fans who are hacks, amateurs, would be designers, and professional designers. It will generate a lot of interesting, super creative ideas and designs.

Of course Stevie and her creative team are going select from the cream of the crop. They aren't going to choose, out of emotional empathy, some amateurish, sub-standard submission from a wounded vet, or a poor 16 year old girl suffering from serious health condition who wrote a heart-felt love letter professing how Stevie's songs are keeping her alive.

From Rolling Stone...Shawl Contest (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/stevie-nicks-asks-fans-to-design-new-shawl-20140815)

Fleetwood Mac frontwoman, solo artist and textile enthusiast Stevie Nicks is asking fans to design a shawl befitting of her legacy of flowy garments. The singer has partnered with Talenthouse for a competition that will reward the winner with $2,000 to produce the shawl and a professional photo of Nicks modeling the covering. The winner and the photo will also be featured on Stevie Nicks' website and social media channels. He or she will also get the shawl back.

"In 1968, a very handsome boy brought me a poncho from South America," the vocalist said in a statement. "I knew it was magic and that someday I would copy it in chiffon or leather or beaded material. I realized that wearing a poncho or a long shawl gave me something to work with up on the stage. Big movements, big twirls, you need to be seen from far away. So I made that a big part of my stage clothes. It became totally intertwined in my fashion style."

Nicks will personally select the winner based on substance, creativity and originality. A runner-up will also be selected by the Talenthouse community; he or she will get $500.

The competition ends on September 29th, with the winner set to be announced on October 14th.

The end date of the contest happens to coincide with the release date of the limited vinyl edition of Nicks' new solo album, 24 Karat Gold – Songs From the Vault, a collection of tunes she wrote between 1969 and 1987, as well as a couple from the mid-Nineties. She has said that discovering bootlegs of the tracks on YouTube inspired her to revisit them and reimagine them. The regular edition of the album is due out October 7th.

Your life finally has meaning.

Nightbird and oracle Stephanie Lynn “Stevie” Nicks, who has given us so much — songs to cry to, songs to spin to, a spiderweb world to hide in, counterspells to whisper when faced with heartbreak or disappointment — has finally called upon us, her army of women who own too many scarves, to serve her. Nicks, the human equivalent of a Tiffany lamp, the OG Elusive Chanteuse, has invited her fans to design a shawl for her. A shawl that she will actually wear on her body. Stevie Nicks’ body. Are you still breathing? Don’t worry, we’ll wait.

Fans have been invited to submit ready-made designs or sketches of “show-stopping” shawls inspired by Nicks’ “mystical visual style and symbolic lyrics.” The winning design will be worn by the singer, professionally photographed, featured on Nicks’ official website, and returned. Yes — you will get to touch, cradle, smell, sleep with, and swaddle yourself in the very same diaphanous fabric that once rested upon and twirled around the delicate poetry-filled limbs of one Stevie Nicks. The same woman who wrote “Landslide.” HOW AREN’T YOU DOODLING SHAWL DESIGNS RIGHT NOW?!

Here are some of our own ideas:

- A shawl woven from the petals of a thousand white roses.
- Wrap ten tambourines in black velvet at a charmed hour and use them to form a net-like pattern. Take the beard hairs of an old Irish traveller and use them as fringe.
- Find a way to turn a crystal ball into a shawl.
- Find a way to turn a hug from Lindsay Buckingham into a shawl.

If you are still uninspired, 1) you are a monster and 2) just shut up and watch this incredible video of Stevie Nicks singing a demo version of “Wild Heart.” If this does nothing for you, I’m sorry but you are already beyond saving.

I can sew well enough both on machine and with hands. But I'm no professional. I actually thought about how I would design one. I have a few ideas but I tend to get nitpicky and my perfectionist side comes out. I like to have something unique and I'm sure Stevie does too. Although that shirt she's been wearing alot lately...she's needs to mix it up. But I digress....
I wouldn't want the shawl to be too loud or boring. And I'd be afraid about some tiny imperfection (a loose thread, tiny hole, etc). Can't have one of my heroes wearing clothes that are shoddy! Even if it's only once! I'd much rather her keep it. I wouldn't want it back. She's paying for it! Shoot, if I had alot of money, I'd make it for her for free even!

The description for the contest almost makes it sound like you have to be a professional designer ('to add to your portfolio'). And I don't have any plans to become one anytime soon so I would feel bad if I'm taking an opportunity away from someone who needs their big break.

Hopefully the one she chooses won't be gaudy. Can you imagine her in one made out of chenille yarn with pieces that are hanging off? Like one of those bad beanie hats? Or something that looks like a heavy insulated drape? Eeeewww! lol

I think contestants should concentrate on the design. Make a prototype, don't worry about the workmanship of the finished product, just yet. Michele

Stevie Nicks’ Show Stopping Shawl

When I saw the ad on Talenthouse for an opportunity to make a shawl for Stevie I knew exactly what to make!

I have always felt a deep resonating respect for nature and the fantastic, which are two themes I find in Stevie’s aesthetic. My design captures these themes in a flowing silk chiffon wrap shawl that hugs the body while allowing freedom of movement. I intend to airbrush a delicate moth wing pattern onto the silk–an homage for the coming moth season in a fall color palette that complements Stevie’s sensibilities. It will then be trimmed in lush golden fringe, feathers, and semi-metallic crochet applique for layers of movement with a touch of glamour.

Please enjoy the following pages of inspiration and design work that are hopefully just the beginning of this adventure.

check out my inspiration board on Pinterest!

Here’s hoping I win! I will know on October 14th!

Wow, that is an awful lot of moons, stars, crystals, mystical animals, spider webs, tarot cards etc. I did like that long, cool wash of blue silk attached to the black feathered bodice though. (The Sea of Love)

Edit: Not to be confused with "Sea of Love" which looks like streamers from a child's birthday party draped over your shoulders and arms. (yikes!)

I started looking at them but found it overwhelming pretty early on. Many of them look like different executions of the same idea. Too many of them look like shawls that Stevie already has or has used before. I hopw she finds something in the submissions that she loves!

I love "white roses of blue leaves" and "Dream of swirls and flowers".

No offense to anyone, but "Fall Freedom" looks like a dog blanket. "The Spirit of Stevie" is just awful.

There are a lot of entires by people that want to clearly be designers and don't know anything about Stevie Nicks. "Exclusive Silk Batik Shawl", whilst very nice, is not something that Stevie would wear on stage. Neither is "Summer Shawl" by Maria Dogaru.

And Bridget Compolattaro, do you really think that Stevie Nicks would wear a shawl with her own album covers on it?

some are quite lovely but too delicate, the details too small, for really being seen onstage. Stage shawls have to be a bit bold and almost too much when you look at them hanging on a mannequin.

On the other hand, some of these prove you can go too far. One looks like she's literally a black feathered bird and appears to weigh a ton. She's too small and old for a 20 lb cape..

OMG some of these are just muumuus….from the retirement home in Boca

Blue water feels really authentic for stevie s stage presence. It could be styled to fit her needs more specificly but really I feel the presence of her aura in that. She is all about her blue water and seas of love and blue lamps and the gold dust sparkle could be romantic on stage if it hits the lights just right. There was another shawl I liked the design of the back cut only it was something called jewelry Shawl but the front I didn't car for the cut. the back was really unique and had a feeling of mystical ballet dancer stevie and robin.

I think Stevie will probably pick a simple design in the end. I'm guessing some shade of black, but she would surprise us all by picking a really colorful one.

I found "The Sea of Love" by Robin Goldman to be the standout. Most of the ones I've seen are either all over the place, or boring. I really like that rich silk navy blue, and the way it attaches to the bodice is pretty cool and gives off a classy, Victorian dramatic edge that Stevie loves.

Some of these are not actually shawls, although they are pretty.
I like "The Sea Of Love". I'm sure the lengths can be altered so as not to cause a mischief.

Dustin's "Blue Water" shawl really caught my eye. It's simple and yet somehow complex.
The fabric pattern he chose was smart because it looks like a waterfall in the front when clasped together.

A lot of the submitted designs look too similar to items Stevie already has. I saw what could have been the Gold Dust Shawl, a sheer number with gold leaves that looks like the Stand Back cape and a few red Sara shawls. I hope the winner isn't going to be a duplicate of something we've essentially already seen her in. I'm ready for a little change. Incidentally, did anyone see a way to vote for those folks without Twitter or Facebook accounts?

I agree, hate to say it, but that one looks like a dog chewed up grandma's couch throw or something. The 9 year old that Stevie gave the shout-out to had a prettier piece. My vote went to The Sea of Love, the cool wash of blue silk attached to the feathery black bodice. On the other hand, at least we'll be able to see Stevie (however briefly), in something other than that black ruffly top she's been spotted in constantly of late.

Stevie Nicks picks shawl by Kanab designer for 1st place winner

KANAB – Celeste Meyeres of Kanab recently won first place for her shawl named NAY-TIV RAY-VIN in a design contest in which Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame asked fans to design a shawl for her to model.

Meyeres, whose nickname is Crickets and vends under the business name CricketsCreations, began making her shawl after thinking about it for a few days, she said.

“I promptly undid my stitches a few rows in, multiple times,” Meyeres said. “The reason was that as soon as I’d begin, I’d think of an even better design. So I sketched out my ideas and did the math – knitting involves quite a bit of geometry and arithmetic – before once-and-for-all starting what would be the finished piece. The final realization was completed in about two days.”

Rather than merely emulating Stevie Nicks’ style, Meyeres said she wanted to offer her a part of herself as well, incorporating her Native American heritage from her great grandmother along with the ravens that grace the Southwestern high desert.

“Native cultures perceive ravens as secret keepers, facilitators of metamorphosis, bearers of magic, harbingers of autumn and transmitters of messages from the cosmos,” Meyeres posted on her Etsy site.

It’s no secret now that the shawl appealed to Nicks. In a note from Stevie Nicks posted on the Talenthouse design contest Web page, she said:

"Ultimately, I chose NAY-TIV RAY-VIN by Crickets Meyeres. I felt this garment could have been made for Rhiannon or for Gold Dust Woman~ the color really isn’t that important. It just seems like a “Celtic” or a “native American” piece~ and I found that very interesting because it is obviously the tribal element that drew me to it~ be it Welsh or Southwestern~ Congratulations!!!”

The contest, hosted by an organization named Talenthouse, received hundreds of entries from all across the nation. For taking first place, Meyeres’ shawl will be worn by Nicks in a photo shoot and announced on Warner Bros. and Stevie Nicks’ official channels. Meyeres will receive $2,000, a photo of Nicks wearing the shawl, and will get the piece back after the photo shoot.

“While I would love to meet Stevie – she is a known animal rescue advocate, and I live right near Best Friends Animal Society where my husband Nicholas works – unfortunately that is not part of the Talenthouse contest winnings,” Meyeres said. “The contest had a ton of gorgeous entries. I was happy to simply have participated alongside such talented peers. So when I got the email that I had won, I couldn’t believe it! I started shaking and my stomach was doing flips. A minute after it had sunk in, I felt so overwhelmed that tears started flowing.”

Meyeres started knitting full-time after being laid-off from her day job in 2008. She has a shop on Etsy where she sells her own designs. She has been featured on the sites homepage multiple times, and averages around 100 sales a month.

You can check out Meyeres’ CricketsCreations shop here, and you can see the other entries in the contest here.

Makes sense that Stevie chose this one. Other than the 'raven' reference. Has anyone else ever noticed, in those early Stevie concerts, that she incorporates some native american dance moves that I've seen? I think I'm thinking the HBO special. The kind of stomp and twirl is more native american than anything else. Wrapping herself in the shawl and kind of spinning around more slowly. It always looked like an indian dance to me. Yes, I wrote 'indian'.

Wow...the shawl selected is gorgeous and so Stevie. I can see why she wears it for Rhiannon, Maker of Birds. It also reminds me of some of those head pieces she would wear.

I hunted around the FM video post thread and found that she wore it for the Columbus, OH 10-19-14 show.

Uniquely Utah: Kanab designer weaves web of threads for rock legend Stevie Nicks

Posted 10:18 pm, November 23, 2014, by Todd Tanner, Updated at 01:27pm, November 24, 2014

http://fox13now.com/2014/11/23/uniquely-utah-kanab-designer-weaves-web-of-threads-for-rock-legend-stevie-nicks/

“This is supposed to represent raven feathers, and this is supposed to look like jagged, irregular, shiny, sparkly, sleek, raven feathers and tail,” said Crickets Meyeres, pointing out the details of an elaborately crafted, handmade shawl.

The beautiful black piece, which graces a mannequin in her Kanab, Utah home, is actually a replication of the original shawl she knitted for Stevie Nicks.

Last September, Meyeres learned of a competition hosted by talenthouse.com, which called upon it’s regular readers and visitors to submit designs for a “show-stopping” shawl for Nicks.

Meyeres couldn’t resist the chance at dressing the rock icon. Soon, a design was flowing from her mind through her fingertips.

“I was absolutely obsessed, and when I was finished I was both excited and terrified about winning, but I didn’t think it would,” she said.

Meyeres says her design was inspired by the ravens that live year-round in the harsh red rock wilderness near her home.

“They are ever-present” she said, “just like Stevie”.

“I wanted to give her something back of me, not just ‘OK this is Stevie Nicks’ style, I’m going to make something her style and regurgitate it to her’. I wanted to give her a gift from Utah,” she said.

Meyeres’ Native American ancestry also played a part in the design, showing up in a subtle tribal pattern amongst the more than 3,000 stitches which make up the shawl.

In a brief statement announcing the winner of the talenthouse.com contest, Nicks noted the tribal element as a primary reason she chose Meyeres as the winner, awarding her a $2,000 prize.

The contest rules stated Nicks would provide the winner with a single photo of herself wearing the shawl, for the designer’s portfolio, and then return it. But it now appears she’s taken a shine to the piece custom-created for her 5’1″ frame.

Meyere explains, “I sent a note along saying Stevie could keep this if she wanted. She did like it. Her representatives asked if she could keep it, but I didn’t know she was going to wear it on stage every night during her concert tour with Fleetwood Mac. She wears it during the song ‘Rhiannon’ which is a huge classic hit. She spreads it out like ravens wings and I feel like she understands the same things I understand about the raven.”

Selling hand-made creations online has been Meyeres’ full time job since 2007. Click here to see more of her items.

Fleetwood Mac is currently enjoying a wave of rave reviews for their “On With The Show” world tour which kicked off in September.

Conlee's dream job?

"I would love to design costume's for Stevie Nicks to wear in concert," he said.

Conlee already has had contact with Nicks: he once designed a shawl for her, which made it in the Top 10, in a contest.

"It didn't win, but I mailed it to her anyway, with a note," he said. "She sent a picture to me of her wearing it."
